Would RGB sing somewhere over the rainbow? Woke up in a cold sweat and thought that’d be in character for him then went back to sleep then woke up in my cozy bed so cozy got so cozy in my bed

fascinating question, as in the original version of TPoH he does sing that. As with when hero sings "I"m going to go back there someday", TPoH was littered with references to pop culture, but I have had to cut back on a lot of them out of fear of copyright infringement (this is why in the printed version she sings "I'm forever blowing bubbles": as the website version is and always will be free I am able to have the original there). I am unsure about Over the Rainbow's status in TPoH canon, similarly I had planned for a rendition of Pure Imagination in one part, but this story is as fluid as it is set so I will simply wait for the time and listen to what it tells me to do.

TPOH UPDATE THEORY

Also look at Hero putting his hat back on! I really hope these two get more time to bond in this chapter! Plus I noticed a little star shape beside him on the first panel? Like an emote or something? I wonder what that's supposed to mean.

PLUS WE GOT A SPEECH BUBBLE! Albeit it's empty, but the fact that it exists may hint at him getting some dialogue in the future??

HE LOOKS SO CALM AND CHILL ABOUT EVERYTHING?? No wonder he's just ignoring Anxiety. Make sense since he's the opposite of RGB, but I wonder how long this collectivness will last. (AND HERO LOOKS ADORABLE HERE)

AND WHAT IS HE DOING HERE??

He's definitely taking advantage of his static electricity, but to do what? Charge his cane with LIGHTNING? (that'd be so cool) But wouldn't that decapitate his hand or something?

In the first panel, he seems to notice that the glass from the mirror maze is stuck inside his suit. And in this one, the shards of glass seem to be falling out from his sleeve. Was this just a side effect of whatever he's doing with his cane or is it the goal? Trying to get all the pointy shards that may hurt him out so he can fight better? Or maybe use them for something?

Also, this is another instance of Negative being associated with RGB's gaps, which mentioned in another theory.

As for big lore stuff, it's revealed in this page that the Butterfly doesn't seen to know who Negative is. This does disprove some stuff that I said in my earlier theories, but that's ok because I think it works well with the reveal that the Butterfly is a personification of Anxiety.

The reason the Butterfly showed up in a lot of scenes associated with Negative was because Negative causes anxiety. Hero is afriad of him and RGB is afriad of water (plus his weird human memories) so it causes Anxiety to pop up. But Anxiety doesn't need to know who Negative is to make that work.

And now that Hero is less scared of Negative, Anxiety is finding it harder to get two's attention, because Anxiety can't hurt you unless you are afriad of something. Negative is so insanely calm about everything that he doesn't even seem to hear Anxiety.

But this is going to make for a really interesting dynamic between Hero, Negative and Anxiety. Hero originally said they should turn RGB into Negative to fight the Butterfly because Negative is more scary than the Butterfly.

But now it seems to be the exact opposite. The Butterfly is having a hard time affecting them because Negative is chill, and Hero is only a little nervous around him now. His calm nature seem to make Hero calm as well, so Anxiety can't influence her.

BUT! The reason Negative isn't attacking right now is because he doesn't view the Butterfly as a threat. However, if the Butterfly or the doubts were to do something to make Negative attack, then wouldn't that make Hero scared of him? Like she was the other times he showed off how scarily good he was at killing stuff?

And if Hero was scared, then Anxiety would be able to easily affect her! So Negative attacking the Butterfly may actually make the situation WORSE. Negative will have to find some way to balance keeping Hero calm while also defending himself.

But will he succeed? I mean, this is only their third time meeting eachother, there's still time for more character development. It could be possible for Anxiety to exploit Hero's fear and end up escaping, but maybe show up again later in the comic! It will take awhile for Hero to fully trust Negative, but I wonder what direction Modmad will take that character arc.

I also remember someone mentioning in Modmad's comments that Negative was caused by HAPPY tears this time, whereas the other two times we saw him he was caused by SAD tears.

This could explain his more calm and mellow attitude in this page. He doesn't seem to possess the "fight or flight" instinct we see him have in his earlier appearances.

Maybe his personality changes based on what kind of tears get into RGB's air vents! If someone is crying sad tears, it usually means something bad is going on, which is why Negative quickly jumps into battle the first time we see him. But now he is calmed down because he didn't wake up with the predisposition that something bad is happening.

He also doesn't have that black goo rising above his eye, which seems to be caused by strong emotions, similar to RGB's mouth blood. I think this means that he will be less confrontational in this chapter since he is in a better mood.

Which is good, because I like seeing my favourite characters happy, and it may give Hero and Negative more time to interact if they are both less on edge.

Overall, Sunday is the best day of the week and I'm so happy Negative is back!

You know… I wonder whose eyes were looking through in TPoH. Putting in a Keep Reading for spoilers stuff in both concept and moments.

So like it's established from the get-go that stuff that's not really tangible is so in the World of Imagination through the introduction of fears, lies, and doubts. Later on we see Hate literally cut panels in half to take away Julienne and Melody. I could go on to name other characters but you get the point.

So POV/point of view/perspective is how the audience sees things. The default for most visual media is third person either limited or omniscient. And that's how we're seeing the events of the comic. But we are seeing through someone's eyes. They are mostly silent but they do talk to us in a few pages (thinking of when we see a bit of Human!RGB's past in the train and when Hero tells RGB about Negative.) It can't be hate because she can't see in the train or when Negative's out but we do. And Mod implied in an ask that we're only seeing highlights of the journey when someone asked/commented about how fast they were moving through the world. (Please link if you know/find it.)

While the mystery person seems to be mostly interested in Hero and RGB, just by the fact that they show us different people like the events of the Black Market collapse and Dial in the Sands of Regret means that they aren't limited in where they can see. And the fact that we saw events that Hate couldn't see and the convo between Dial and Hate implies that the owner of our eyes is fairly powerful.

I might just be overthinking it and this is not an aspect of the comic. But given what we know of the world it is fun to think about. If this is a character I wonder what their motivations are and why they are interested in RGB's quest to save the world.

Anyways I’m all caught up now! It has some similar feelings to A Wrinkle in Time to me… but it’s been a long time since I read it so I might be misremembering. Caught the Wizard of Oz and Watership Down quotes though! That was cool. Anyways thanks a lot for the recommendation!

I’m really curious how you first heard of it, and what drew you in! I personally really like the way the artist is playing around with the medium. The stylistic contrast, even within the same panels at times, is so visually interesting! Yeah I guess I’d just like to hear what you like about it :D

And his attachment to her has grown so much since the time she initially backed away from his held out hand after the first encounter with Negative (and he was bleeding cyan then too). His concern and attentiveness to her is so much more...softer. Because it is her.

I have read a Wrinkle of Time but also so so long ago so it didn't click for me but I can remember some things such as the different dimensions and that love was the thing that saves the little brother right? Just as having amour protects our dear Hero :)

And oh gosh how I heard of it? Haha I've been following the creator here on tumblr cuz of their art and stuff but it did take me a while to start tpoh tho. (Be in the right mood thing 🤧)

But wow. First of all. I immediately had many many questions when RGB asked if Hero wanted to be a hero. But she immediately said yes. No questions. Followed along this brightly colored tv-headed guy to this world above the clouds ?? So I'm curious with her. Of her. Of RGB.

Then when he started explaining that certain entities are Lies, Doubts, Fears. That they use dreams and nightmares to fight and help heal. That she can get carried away with an Idea. I fell in love with that concept of creating this world that utilizes emotions and concepts and made them tangible and representative of the world. It took me until Hero literally exclaiming what their world was for me to realize it tho lmao but my gosh doesn't that make everything so much more amazing when u think of all the elements, the characters who are realized and those searching for inspiration and waiting for their story. It's so amazing to think about.

And I am so enamored by the characters, not just Hero and RGB. I am glad the other's are still part of this story even if their time as the hero ended.

And of course the art! Ofc ofc. I agree, the way the medium is played and utilized with how it's also part of the plot! Amazing. And it's gorgeous, too!

TPoH Theory: Negative represents the repressed feelings of RGB

Yes i come here with another one of these.

CONTENT WARNING FOR MENTIONS OF DEPRESSION AND MENTAL ISSUES IN GENERAL

If these themes trigger or upset you, i recommend to stop reading this post.

So, this one will be more speculative than the last one, so don't expect a lot of evidence this time (And also Negative has only appeared two times so it's not like there's a lot of solid evidence at all)

Let's begin.

The first thing that can kinda be a clue is his name, Negative, RGB shows a lot of color, not just on his screen but on his clothes and the personality that he shows to other people, making Negative an opposite version of him not only because he's literally grayscale, but on the fact that it is how RGB truly feels, without color, full of fear (hence the color black) sadness and shame of himself for not being a better person.

This is also why i think that his only way of appearing is when someone drops tears on him, the tears trigger RGB's sadness caused by a possible depression, and thus, Negative appears.

As of why he protects Hero and fights for himself, since this is the world of make believe, i like to imagine that this is what RGB wants to be, he wants to protect Hero as much as he can because he grew attached to her and feels bad for the fact of taking her life away at such a short age, but due to him being someone who doesn't like to show his emotions, (and also a coward) he just represses it, to make himself believe that he's not getting attached and overprotective for the child he abducted.

Having these emotions so present got to the point of creating another version of himself based on these feelings, making Negative the one who saves the child when danger is near.

For the blue flowers, doing some research i found these three meanings that kinda match with my interpretation of Negative:

-Mystery and attaining the impossible

-Unattainableness

-New beginnings

As of now, Negative is still a mysterious character from who we don't know much about, so that part fits, and the other two, i personally interpret those represent that RGB thinks that he can never change and become the protector that Hero needs, that he will never be a good person in general, that he can never start again.

The gold on the thorns is tricky tho, i found that it represents succes, achievement and triumph, so it might be like a ''I know you can do this'' type of sign.

The last thing is small, but i still want to mention it, and its the fact that RGB is not conscious of Negative's existence, everytime Hero asks him about Negative he doesn't know what she's talking about. This is quite common on people in real life, who don't even know that they have a disorder or a mental condition until way later in their lives.

As of now- i'll leave it there, apologies if this theory is not as good as the other one, i just wanted to share it and stop bothering my irl friend with it-

My dear 7 followers, I apologize for not posting. I have so many thoughts and ideas, actually, but I was out of my ADHD meds for three weeks, and before that I was visiting my grandma out of state for a couple weeks. So. Yeah.

But!! I'm not dead! I still have things to post! Theories to dissect! So fear not. (In case any of you were, for some reason...)

Also I have been possibly getting back into drawing. It's a weird balance. I draw better on my meds, but have waaay less desire to. I want to draw all the time without my meds, but can't usually get out more than sketches. So uh, maybe I'll manage some TPoH fanart?? If I do you'll be the first to know.

A little fan fiction on TPoH (I literally fell in love with this comic).

I love these guys and I want more content for tickle lovers! Well, it's not perfect, maybe even bad, but it is there! Have fun reading!

The Hero asked a lot of questions on the way to the ferry. It was necessary to fill the silence and therefore she asked all possible questions about this world and its inhabitants.

Strange creatures literally surrounded them, and seemed to be chasing them.

When the questions ended, there was silence. Piercing, dead silence. It's a great atmosphere to think about whether it was a good decision to agree to "be a hero."

This is too stressful thought, so the girl was thinking about how to entertain herself.

This thought was followed by another question.

— Are monsters afraid of anything?

— A lot of things. — the "worst monster" answered almost indifferently.

The child thought for a minute.

What can monsters be afraid of? Lies? Maybe doubts? Or maybe something so naive and stupid that you might think it's not fear at all. Such as..

— Tickle! Are monsters ticklish?

The man stopped for a second, and then continued walking, slowing down a little. He didn't know the answer to the question. And I think he didn't want to find out.

— I... don't know. Rather, I have never asked this question. — He paused for a moment and continued again. — In any case, we don't have time for this. Let's go.

The Hero did not like at all that her question was not given a full answer. She wanted to know, even though she didn't know why it was necessary.

Then we'll find out right now! — Suddenly she exclaimed and jumped on the monster that had just turned to face her.

The man did not have time to understand anything as the child grabbed him with both hands and began to tickle his sides.

— What are you-

His legs gave way and the monster sat down on the ground, trying to unhook the child from him.

Hoarse and really "TV" laughter flooded the neighborhood.

RGB had already cursed the day when he decided to take her with him.

The main rule: do not work with children and animals! But no, why draw the necessary conclusions, it's better to make a hasty decision, and suffer from stupid tricks again!

While the TV monster tried to pull her away, the girl clung to him, squeezing the clothes on her back even more.

The TV scoundrel screamed and threw the girl aside.

— That's enough!

RGB was sitting at the ground trying to catch his breath and the Hero sat down nearby with a smug look.

Red and purple blood flowed profusely from the TV screen.

— Why did you do that? I told you, we don't have time for your childish antics!

The girl silently continued to smile, which in general could be counted as an answer.

The monster got up from the ground, dusted off his clothes and slowly trudged along the designated path.

Madras' house was still visible on the horizon and maybe she saw it.

What a shame..

The hero jumped up and ran after RGB.

She realized what she wanted and now silently walked behind, continuing to smile maliciously.

TPOH NEGATIVE THEORY ‼️

As an overthinker, media with complicated lore and mysteries are my lifeline so I've decided to contribute my thoughts to the wild west that is tpoh theories!

My working theory I will be going through today is.. (drum roll please 🥁🥁)

TIME WAS THE ONE THAT CREATED NEGATIVE! *jazz hands*

.......okay just hear me out-

Why would Time create Negative?

So, we know that RGB and Time are friends and Time helped him after he lost his first hero and also helped Hero, so Time does support RGB's mission and wishes him to succeed. (there also a modmad post you can find on RGB's wiki that implies he might have once been dating Time sooooo)

We also know that Time and Hate used to be friends but had some sort of falling out that resulted in them becoming enemies. Time actively worked against Hate by helping Hero and RGB.

Another thing we find out in Casting is that Hate never intended to give RGB any chance at succeeding in his mission. The game was rigged from the start, as RGB said. The Land of Make Believe is a very hostile place and its implied that Hate has quite a bit of control over the world so it makes sense that she intended to just kill RGB with a Fear or any other enemy.

All this considered, how I imagine it went is that Time knew Hate wouldn't let RGB live and created Negative to help RGB, protect the heros and go against Hate, which lines up with Time's previously mentioned character relationships.

This also explains Negative's behaviour. We don't know much about him but I am a believer of the theory that Negative is a good guy and doesn't mean any harm. All we've seen him do is protect himself when RGB died, defeat Fears and sandstorms and protect Hero. He is basically a characterised defensive mechanism for RGB. Which lines up with what Time would want him to be. He didn't want RGB to die so he created Negative to get RGB out of danger if he ever got badly injured so that Hate couldn't hurt him!

How would Time create Negative?

With the memories RGB gave him in the trade for more time!!

Think about it! It always bugged me that Time took RGB's memories for seemingly no reason. When Hero needed Time's help, Time did some time-travel shenanigans free of charge! Hero didn't need to give up any of her memories, so why did RGB have to?

Maybe Time needed them to create Negative. This might be a bit of a stretch, but I believe that Negative is supposed to represent RGB's repressed memories.

RGB is a coward and runs away, but Negative is brave and fights creatures head-on. RGB tries to deny that he cares for Hero, but Negative openly protects her even if he accidentally ends up spooking her with his creepy appearance. RGB talks a lot, but Negative hasn't had a single line of dialogue and is theorised by most of the fandom to be mute.

Maybe the reason Negative is so creepy looking and has possible relations to RGB's weird dreams is because he represents the bad memories that Time took from him! Which may explain why RGB can't remember how he died or parts of his human life!

This also is why RGB doesn't know Negative exists and can't remember anything Negative does. And why he changed the subject when Hero tried to tell him about Negative on the train and why water is his biggest fear. Because he doesn't WANT to know.

Additional evidence!

THIS CONVERSATION WITH DIAL AND HATE! I NEVER SEE ANYONE TALKING ABOUT IT!

First all, blackouts are when the page goes dark and Hate can't see what the protagonists are doing. And if there was a blackout at the Plains of Hesitation (the place we first meet Negative) that means Hate can't see Negative and probably doesnt know he exists! This was probably some magic Time did when creating Negative so Hate couldn't hurt Negative.

But, we see Dial saying "Nah, he seemed the same as ever." implying that Hate asked him something along the lines of "was RGB acting differently?"

This makes me think that Hate knows something is up with RGB and knows that he isn't always himself, but doesn't know what exactly. This would make sense since RGB has been trying to defeat Hate for a very long time and is somehow always coming back when he should have died, so of course Hate would guess something was wrong.

My last peice of evidence is this:

From Time's dialogue here, he can infer that Time is aware of Negative's existence. This could just be down to the fact that he is... well TIME, so he basically knows everything since he watches over everything.

But what I find really interesting is how he says "She doesn't learn that yet." when talking about Hero. Because Hero DOES know about Negative, she's seen him twice and even figured out that water getting into his circuits can trigger out Negative, so WHAT hasn't she learnt yet? I believe that the thing she has yet to learn in Negative's backstory and creation, so it makes sense for Time to say this.

(Also Time has one eye and so does Negative. That might be a coincidence since a few tpoh character only have one eye but its worth mentioning 🤷‍♂️)

IN CONCLUSION! I like this theory I think it has a good amount of evidence, but not enough that im completely happy with it. I'm currently rereading TPOH and looking for clues relating to the lore so if I find anything that disproves or proves this theory then I'll reblog with more info! And please feel free to do the same because I love theorising with other people!

Either way, i really really REALLY hope we get some more Negative screentime soon because I MISS HIM :(
