Wish Me Luck was a British television drama about the exploits of British women undercover agents during the Second World War. The series was made by London Weekend Television for the ITV network between 17 January 1988 and 25 February 1990 and created by Lavinia Warner and Jill Hyem, who had previously produced and written the BBC women prisoner of war series Tenko. i absolutely love whatever you write for the ww2 top gun prompts, so i have gathered enough courage to come here and make a prompt of my own. i'd like to read about an aftermath of bob and phoenix being chosen for a covert operation to drop a female cichociemni agent into poland. they don't know what's it like to have one's home country razed to the ground and chopped up by both nazi germany and soviet russia. hopefully, they'll never know. thank you!
That's a pretty substantial idea, Kind Anonymous Friend, but I think I'm going to have to take a pass on this one - Operations like the one you're describing would have been handled by the Special Operations Executive, or SOE, a special branch of the British Armed forces, and the group responsible for delivering SOE agents to their assignments in occupied Europe was the Royal Air Force Special Duties Service. They were flying a lot of Lysanders, Hudsons, and Halifaxes, not the sporty little fighter planes the US Navy would have been using, or the big bombers of the the US Air Force.
BUT. I don't want to leave you out in the cold here. I'm not super-well versed in SOE work, but the most famous Polish SOE operative I can think of is Krystyna Skarbek, (also known as Christina Granville) who has been the subject of several books. The 2020 movie The Resistance Fighter talks about Jan Nowak-Jezioranski, who served as a courier between the Polish government in exile and the home army.
If SOE is something you're interested in, there's also a really fun mini-series called X Company that looks at SOE agents in France. Another one of my personal favorites is called The Heavy Water War (Kampen om tungtvannet) - it's about the sabotage of the Norsk Hydro plant in Ryuken, which is what I've based my fictional 1940 mission on. That show also does a great job of showing what the occupation of Norway looked and felt like for civilians. I also really like the 2019 book A Woman of No Importance, which is all about Virginia Hall, an American SOE agent.
This doesn't have anything to do with Top Gun: Maverick, but I *also* happen to know that @wexhappyxfew is working on a fanfic for Band of Brothers, the HBO miniseries, that involves a member of the Cichociemni - It's called Landslide and it's on AO3!

Leo Marks MBE: Head of SOE (Special Operations Executive) Codes and Cyphers.

His father was joint owner of Marks and Co and was an antiquarian bookseller in Charring Cross Road, London. Marks joined the army in January 1942 and was sent to Bletchley Park as a codebreaker where he was regarded a misfit. However, SOE saw him has as one of a few unique people who could see patterns…

I know Christopher Lee isn't going to be a character in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, but it would be really cool if there was just some guy in the background who kind of looks like him. And maybe Ian Fleming makes a passing remark about his cousin also being in the SOE.

Loving Her Was Red
Tumblr media
Summary: Lois Drake an SOE from England didn’t expect to fall in love, she didn’t want to but there was something about the blushing, red-headed officer that melted her cold exterior. But war is no place for love and can they endure. Warnings: not really any warnings for this one just Lewis being sassy.

The SOE and the Paratrooper
Vera Lynn's voice drifted through the bar, a smokey haze blurring out many of the faces she walked past. Her heels clicked meticulously like typewriter keys as her legs carried her across the floor, keeping her eyes focused on the seat ahead of her and ignoring the calls from the drunken men on either side of her. Her reddened lips set in a firm line as her eyes made contact with the man who was waiting for her. She hated meeting Intelligence Officers, they were always some Ivy Leaguer who lived off of daddy’s money and thought he was of a different league to everyone else.
Lewis Nixon stood to greet her, her large hand taking her smaller one as he placed his lips to her hand, much to her disgust and fighting the urge to punch him in the mouth she smiled at him, “It’s good to meet you, Lieutenant Nixon. I’ve heard a lot about you.”
“Only good things I hope,” Nixon joked, and she smiled disdainfully at the intelligence officer. He was the sort of man that always mixed in her circles. The kind of man that despite the lack of a wedding ring on his finger was most likely married and was the sort of man who would break a girl's heart.
“It’s good to meet you too, Miss Drake,” Nixon thrust his hand forward and Lois took it, shaking his hand firmly which took the Lieutenant by surprise.
“Good to meet you too, Lieutenant Nixon and it’s Captain Drake if you don’t mind. I’ve been promoted.” Lois stared Nixon dead in the eyes and he blinked a few times before he replied.
“Of course, Captain Drake. My apologies.”
The pair took their seat and Lois found herself ordering a glass of the most expensive wine, she wouldn’t say that she normally had expensive taste but if this upstart was paying with his father's money then why shouldn’t she take advantage?
“One of my friends will be joining us soon, Lieutenant Richard Winters, I don’t know if you have heard of him,” Lewis added, taking a long swig from his glass of whiskey.
“No I don’t generally use my valuable time to learn all the names of the officers in the 101st,” she glared at Nixon who just sighed, leaning back in his chair.
“Well, you will know him soon enough. Here he comes now.”
Lois turned to see the striking redhead weaving his way through the crowds, apologising to anyone who bumped into him and tripping over a woman’s outstretched leg on the way. He looked rather clumsy but something was endearing about the way his cheeks blushed when their eyes met and Lois found herself swallowing hard.
“Dick, I want you to meet someone. This is Lois Drake, she’s an SOE who will be working alongside the 101st.” Lewis introduced the pair and watched as Dick took Lois’ hand in his.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss Drake,” Dick spoke softly, his lips moving over the words as if he’d been saying her name all his life.
“You can call me Lois, Lieutenant Winters,” Lois felt herself feeling a little breathless as he watched her movements curiously.
“She’s a Captain you know,” Nixon chimed in, scowling at Lois while she glared back at him.
“Lois is fine,” she reassured Winters and he smiled at her.
“Well then I must insist you call me Dick.” Lois smiled at him and they both took their seats.
The evening went by quickly and Dick found himself hanging off her every word. The way her red lips moved, forming each letter had Dick in some kind of a trance and he found himself wishing the evening would never end.
“Well, I’m afraid I should be heading out. I have to be back in London tomorrow,” Lois stood and Dick immediately stood to pull her chair out for her. She smiled sweetly at him but didn’t miss the scoff from Nixon.
“Thank you, Dick.”
Dick smiled shyly at her, helping her put her coat back on. “Would you like me to walk you back to your hotel? For your safety of course,” he added as the tips of his ears grew red at the implications of what she might have thought he implied.
“That’s very kind of you Dick, thank you.”
“Dick I thought you were staying here. It’s our evening off after all. Lois is an SOE, she’s dropped into occupied France I’m sure she can walk herself back,” Nixon moaned like a petulant child and Dick just gave him a stern look.
“Shall we?” He placed his hand gently on the small of her back, his fingers splayed wide and Lois could help the shiver that ran up her spine.
The walk to the door was short and the pair soon found the rain hammering down outside, pooling in the streets like glistening pools of light.
“I’ve always admired the rain. Not many people like it but there is something peaceful about it,” Lois admitted, her hand finding its way into Dick’s and giving it a quick squeeze. Lois shucked over her red coat and thrust it into Nixon’s hand, who had just appeared beside them, before dashing out into the street. The rain was freezing and quickly soaked through her thin red dress, drenching her curls and leaving her hair plastered to her head, but Lois didn’t care. She spun and danced and twirled around on the spot, her arms open and feeling as carefree as a child.
Dick watched in awe, unable to drag his eyes away from her dancing form. He blushed as he noticed the way her wet dress hugged her form, extenuating her breasts and curves.
“Don’t you just love the rain,” Lois called, flailing her arms above her head. Dick couldn’t contain his smile any longer, pulling off his class A jacket and thrusting it towards his friend.
“Take this for me, Lew.”
“Not you as well,” Lewis grumbled, stuffing it under his arm with Lois’ coat. “What the hell is going on?”
Dick shivered as the rain seeped through his shirt causing it to cling to his chest, which didn’t go unnoticed by Lois who began to run her fingers over his pecs and the muscles of his abdomen.
“You know Dick, I have a rather expensive bottle of whiskey back at mine that’s just waiting to be drunk. I don’t think I can drink it all on my own,” she looked up at him through damp lashes, the raindrops hanging off of them and smudging her mascara.
“Well we can’t have that,” Dick smiled down at her, grasping her hand. “Lead the way, Miss Drake.”
Lewis Nixon stood in the doorway of the bar, shaking his head in amusement, “God Dick, you’ve got a fiery one there. I just hope you know what you’re doing.”

PEGGY WEEK 2024
day one — 20th century ⏳
@lgbtqcreators creator bingo 💖 overlay.
Margaret Elizabeth "Peggy" Carter began her long life of service as a code-breaker for Bletchley Park during World War II. She was then invited to be an agent for the Special Operations Executive (S.O.E) as one of their first female spies; later she joined the Strategic Scientific Reserve (S.S.R.) and remained there after the war. Carter fought alongside Captain America and his team and was considered an honorary Howling Commando by them, even leading the team after the Captain's "death". With the dissolution of the S.S.R. a few years after the war ended, Carter became a co-founder of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division (S.H.I.E.L.D.). Eventually, she reached the status of director of said agency, a position she held until her retirement. She died peacefully in her sleep in 2016.

This is a German report during WW2. The people they call terrorists are the people who were resisting to the Nazis. The “terrorists camps” were groups of people resisting to the Nazis.
“The fight against terrorists and resistance groups was, in January 1944, specially successful. It was led by the troops subordinate to the MBF, by the units of the commander of the Sipo and the SD. Units under the command of the commander-in-chief of the Western Front also participated in these fights. In January 1944, 582 actions against 244 terrorist camps were carried out by the army, the FG and the SD. According to known evidence, so far, 173 terrorists have been killed during these operations. According to a statement by the Sipo-SD commander, 4,460 arrests were made in January 1944 [...]. In addition, 841 people were arrested by the French police. [...] Following the convictions handed down by war courts, 109 people were shot. In any case, we act bluntly against terrorists. Where necessary, collective sanctions are applied as immediate retaliation. These included are many immediate executions as well as large-scale arrests, followed by the transfer of persons arrested for compulsory work in the Reich. Houses and farms, from which shots were fired, have been systematically burned immediately for several weeks now.”
If it doesn’t remind you anything and doesn’t revolt you congrats you’re a fucking monster who would have most likely sided with the Nazis. The methods and language used by Israel is very similar to the methods and language used by the Nazis but you’re too busy drinking up all the propaganda and supporting white supremacy like your ancestors probably did to stand for what’s right.

babe wake up new whumpay prompts dropped. like last year, im posting early for more time to prepare
Welcome to Whumpay 2024! Up above you will see the basic prompt list and down below the cut you will see it written out in a list, as well as three mini challenges (and by extension, the extreme edition)
Rules are the same as usual
You only have to use one (Or two, if you’re doing the extreme edition.) prompt a day! But you’re welcome to use multiple if you want to, and it still counts for both.
I know the description of the blog says it’s a writing event, but if you want to draw or make other kinds of content, that’s cool too.
Have fun, tag content warnings (such as noncon, graphic violence, etc) and try not to be crushed by the mortifying ordeal of posting your writing.
This is a pretty chill event so you can start posting whenever but I’ll be reblogging posts made to the #Whumpay2024 tag throughout May. For real this time.
These all also apply to these three special mini challenges, consisting of a 7 day, a 10 day, and a 14 day prompt list.

TLT fans: did you guys know about the real Wake? I hadn't heard about her until we covered World War II in my world civ class this semester
Nancy Grace Augusta Wake (1912-2011) was a covert operative who was at the top of the Nazi's most wanted list in WW2, nicknamed "The White Mouse" for her ability to repeatedly evade capture. She was born in New Zealand with Māori heritage, grew up in Australia, and joined the Resistance after traveling to Europe and witnessing the harsh treatment of Jews in Vienna by the Nazis
Tumblr media
Wake worked in the Pat O'Leary Line escape network until her Resistance organization was compromised by the Germans in 1942. After that she fled on foot across the Pyrenees—with several close calls that she escaped by flirting with German soldiers—and made her way to England to join the Special Operations Executive. She was part of a three person team codenamed "Freelance" which parachuted into occupied France. During this operation she got stuck in a tree after her parachute became tangled in its branches. The local Resistance leader who found her reportedly said “I hope that all the trees in France bear such beautiful fruit this year" to which she replied "Cut out that French bullshit and get me out of this tree"
While working in the Freelance operation Wake once biked 500 km (310 mi) without stopping in the span of 72 hours across Nazi territory to retrieve a new radio and codes after her team's were destroyed in a Gestapo raid. Without this feat, Freelance would not have been able to communicate with London and there would have been no more supply drops to support their Resistance organization. During the war she was also part of a raid which destroyed the Gestapo headquarters in Montluçon, in which she reportedly killed a Nazi sentry with her bare hands to prevent him from raising an alarm
Wake's fellow operatives described her as "a real Australian bombshell. Tremendous vitality, flashing eyes. Everything she did, she did well. She was an excellent shot, excelled at fieldcraft and put the men to shame by her cheerful spirit and strength of character." "She is the most feminine woman I know until the fighting starts. Then she is like five men." "We both came to the conclusion that she was 10 times the man I would ever be"
By the time of her death in 2011, Wake had been awarded the George Medal by Britain; the Medal of Freedom by the United States; the Médaille de la Résistance, the Croix de Guerre (x3), and the Légion d’Honneur by France; and the Badge in Gold by New Zealand. Due to a complicated relationship with Australia, she originally refused to accept any awards from the Australian government, saying that they could "stick their medals where the monkey stuck his nuts." In 2004, however, she accepted the honor of Companion of the Order of Australia as well

The more I think about it, the more I think the Dark Brotherhood actually could work if it were written by someone with any idea how cults operate.
Like say they recruit like in Oblivion, they find people who've killed (or anyone with a sufficiently high bounty) and approach them out of the blue - with completely different dialogue & framing this could work so much better. You're probably on the run from the law, alone and vulnerable, that's prime cult recruitment fare, so instead of Lucien being all "muahaha you're evil like me" make him a smooth, comforting presence, he shows up and offers you sanctuary and a family who can protect you, make sure you're safe forever and nobody will ever come after you again. Don't even give the trial contract, just hand over the Blade of Woe and invite them to the Sanctuary, making it clear he expects your presence - if you don't show in a couple of days he'll come back and give you an oh-so-friendly reminder, and if that doesn't work then other members will ensure you never do. Let him show up in the middle of the night still too, just to make it clear that despite the friendly welcoming air he knows who you are, knows you're vulnerable and can reach you anywhere.
Then, all the early contracts should be easy, simple jobs against targets you're told deserve it - corrupt guards, abusers, that sort of thing - and your "family" are all so comforting and reassuring and encouraging, after all this isn't that different to what you did before, and your family are more experienced and always willing to support new members; after all, the rest of the world hates you now, so who else do you have for support?
When you're deeper in, the contracts start getting more difficult to justify to yourself, but what else could you do at that point? You can't just leave, you know very well by now that the family would be able to find you anywhere and even if it's never mentioned you know there's only one way out, and telling the guard would be confessing to enough murders to earn you an execution anyway. It's not until around this point that they even mention Sithis - before now it's just been a family that takes special jobs in a form of unspoken public service, it's only when you're fully entrenched and can't afford to question it (for your own piece of mind as much as anything) that all the truly dark religious aspects get brought in, and things only get more unpleasant and disturbing from there.
