Okay, I'm rewatching Amok Time and like,,,
I guess I just hadn't put together exactly how much Something Borrowed, Something Green pulls from Amok Time? I mean:
Sudden need to visit alien cast member's home planet for a wedding
Alien cast member is explicitly uncomfortable with outsiders learning about their culture and customs, but invites two close friends along anyway
Alien cast member is revealed to be from a much more high class and prestigious family than originally thought
Trio must participate in an archaic wedding custom that alien cast member shows distaste for
Alien cast member acts in a way that is noticably out of character while on their home planet
People being carried around on litters???
Story ends in a fight scene that is resolved via discussion of a misunderstanding
And like it's already pretty apparent that Tendi, T'Lyn and Mariner are meant to be the Bones, Spock, and Kirk of Lower Decks, but I guess I've been so focused on the various Spock/ T'Lyn parallels in season 4 that I never really thought about how much Tendi parallels Spock in this episode.

My favourite detail is how the bartender on Orion keeps a jar for people to deposit their bloody daggers into, because getting stabbed in their establishment is just such an everyday occurrence.

Given how short of a glimpse of this we had in the recent Lower Decks episode, I wanted to point out that Orion has riding rhinoceroses.
And on a completely separate note, I've adored Tendi as a character from the beginning of the series. But as I'm such a complete nerd, I adore her even more now given that it's far more important to her to be known and appreciated as a nerd as opposed to being worshiped and feared for being a sexy badass with deadly skills.

Does anyone else find it odd that Tendi’s family refers to themselves as “criminals?” Criminals break the law, but what laws *on Orion* are they breaking? Sure, they’re breaking Federation laws, but why would they define themselves by that?

Star Trek: Lower Decks: Something Borrowed, Something Green - TV Review
TL;DR – We delve into Orion culture one dagger to the shoulder at a time
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
Star Trek: Lower Decks Review –
The one thing that Star Trek: Lower Decks has worked hard at is finding that middle line between being a comedic take on the Star Trek universe and being a show that would fit in that universe. While you can see that love in every single Easter Egg [there are so…

"I honestly think Tendi was being a dick for asking T'Lyn to delete her notes on Orion Culture. The entire point of T'Lyn's notes was to document Orion Culture and Tendi was okay with it until she realised that Orions are infact still very much tied to their space pirate roots, to the point they have actual drug gigolos and crime syndicates. Tendi didnt want T'Lyn to delete her notes for being inaccurate, she wanted them deleted because Tendi doesnt want people to know about Orion culture. Atleast that is what the show (perhaps unintentionally) made it seem to be"
