mk1 men x reader hcs (fanfic tropes edition)

pairings: havik, johnny cage, kung lao, raiden, rain, syzoth, shang tsung, smoke x reader (all separate)

warnings: slight angst in havik’s bc his past is damn sad. slight gore in shang tsung’s. slight spoilers for mk1 story mode. reader is gender neutral in all.

summary: sfw headcanons of you and the mk1 men but with common fanfic tropes (only one bed, coffee shop, enemies to lovers, etc)

a/n: this. took. 6 hours. i was gonna put baraka, reiko, liu kang, and bi-han, but they didn’t make the cut lol. also if anyone wants, i can turn any of these into full fics. all u gotta do is request it!!

havik: only one bed

- you and havik were very close. you knew each other pretty well, but that’s about it. you were never more than friends, even if you wish you were. even if your banter together suggests to be more than friends, you usually assume it’s just a joke.

- until you both had to take shelter in an abandoned house. you were on the run, trying to escape the soldiers in sun do chasing you both down.

- what you didn’t know was that there was only one bed inside.

- “you may rest on the bed. i can just rest on the floor or keep watch.” havik offered.

- “no, you deserve rest too. we’ve had a long day. you should sleep.” you told him.

- havik sighed. “there is no point in arguing. perhaps we can share?”

- the idea made you a bit flustered, but you were not against it one bit. you found havik attractive, and you respected him like he respected you. but the idea of sharing the same bed is so… intimate. it’s like he trusted you enough to be beside you while he slept. it was flattering.

- you agreed to his offer, and crawled to opposite sides of the bed. he had his back turned to you, and you could clearly see his back muscles and his biceps in the dim light crawling through the window. thank god the moon was bright, so you can clearly look at him.

- you were so close. it was almost embarrassing how you couldn’t keep your eyes off of him. you were basically ogling at him while he slept.

- but you snapped out of it and you slowly succumbed to sleep, not knowing havik was awake the whole time.

- havik tossed and turned, he couldn’t stop thinking about how you felt comfortable enough to be next to him while you slept. you’re so vulnerable. you looked so peaceful and delicate while you slept. usually he’d refuse to go to sleep since he doesn’t really need to, but he wanted to take the opportunity to be close to you.

- he’s a stubborn guy, always wanting revenge for his past in seido. he’s bitter. he’s angry. he wants freedom for other seidans like him. he craves liberation and to bless others lives with anarchy. but it’s in times like these when he can finally relax. when he can just sigh in contentment, and sit next to you as you slept.

- you looked so happy as his ally, having the freedom to do what you want. havik sees you as a symbol of what life can look like for others. surely if you’re happy and free, other people can be too?

- he also knew he had feelings for you. he tried to push them away and pretend you were just allies, because he wants to focus on his pursuit to liberation. but someday.. someday when he achieves said liberation… he’ll confess his feelings. someday, havik will finally feel safe enough to be vulnerable with someone for the first time after years of being a slave. and if he had to be vulnerable with anyone in all the realms, it’d be you. someday.

johnny cage: fake relationship

- you were a famous actor. you weren’t incredibly famous or anything, but you were definitely well-known.

- one day at another actor’s party, you happened to meet johnny cage.

- “did it hurt when you fell from heaven?” johnny flirted, giving you a wink.

- you both got along for a few hours, laughing and talking as if you were old friends. you even gave him your number with no hesitation.

- but what you didn’t know was that somebody took photos of you two and posted them online. and the internet started assuming you were a couple because of how happy you both looked.

- your names were trending on twitter and fans everywhere were hoping you were a real couple.

- then, johnny himself texted you, proposing that you both went along with it and pretended to be a couple. you agreed, of course.

- so for the next few weeks, you both went to visit each other frequently and got ‘caught’ by the paparazzi many times. pictures and videos of you two were everywhere. you and johnny had lots of fun together going through the edits and fan accounts that were already made.

- but, you were secretly really enjoying the ‘fake’ relationship you two had. you actually wanted him for real. you didn’t know that he was doing the same.

- you found out one day when you were at his mansion for the thousandth time. he took a quick bathroom break and you wanted to scare him when he came back, so you hid somewhere he couldn’t see you. but you happened to overhear a phone call between him and his friend.

- “i’m telling you kenshi, this one is special. i really like them. a lot. i don’t think i want our relationship to be fake anymore. they’re just so understanding, and fun, and hot! but i don’t know. i don’t know if they like me too.” johnny admitted over a call.

- you were shocked. he actually had feelings for you too. you immediately came out of your hiding spot and confronted him.

- “oh shit. you heard that?!” johnny cursed.

- but his panic died down as soon as you admitted your feelings too. neither of you admitted your relationship was fake at first, but neither of you cared about the media anymore. because your love is real and genuine now.

kung lao: coffee shop au

- there was a coffee shop you owned and worked at in your village.

- it was pretty successful, and you got quite a few customers every day. it wasn’t too exciting though. at least until kung lao walked in for the first time.

- he was immediately attracted to you at first sight.

- he and raiden had to find a different place to rest at after work that day, since madam bo’s was temporarily closed.

- kung lao walked inside, not expecting anything exciting. until he saw you behind the counter. your eyes sparkled and your smile grew when you greeted him and raiden, offering them a seat and asking them what they wanted to order. he couldn’t even think straight. he was so lost in your eyes.

- “what can i get you two?”

- “uh. um. uhhh… i’d like uh…. coffee?”

- “what kind?” you sweetly asked.

- “coffee.” he blurted.

- you didn’t know he liked you, you honestly thought he was just indecisive. you were very patient with him though, since you thought he was cute.

- raiden instantly saw how kung lao was speechless at the sight of you, and teased his friend about it.

- “you like them, huh?”

- “what? psh, no.. maybe… so?”

- raiden came up to you while you were making the coffee, and let you know about his friend’s interest.

- “i think kung lao has a bit of an interest in you… but you didn’t hear it from me!” raiden whispered.

- the cute guy in your shop had an interest in you? yeah, sure. you didn’t really believe him. but a part of you hoped it was true.

- kung lao took his sweet time in the shop, and stayed for hours before it closed. even after raiden left, he still stayed just to talk to you. he kept ordering coffee over and over so he had an excuse to stay.

- before it closed, you asked him how the coffee was. clearly he really liked it because of how much he ordered it, right?

- “actually… i’m not a fan of coffee. i just wanted to talk to you.” kung lao admitted.

- thankfully, his efforts did not go to waste. he left the shop with a big smile on his face and a napkin with your number on it. he was definitely going to visit the shop every day now.

- oh and also, he kept that napkin. even years into your relationship, he never threw it away.

raiden: childhood friends to lovers

- you and raiden were friends since you were children. you used to run around the fields of your village together and play games without a care in the world.

- you both remained friends all the way to adulthood, even though you didn’t get to talk often since you had moved away and you wrote letters to one another every now and then. but you decided to move back home one day.

- upon seeing how you look now, he was pleasantly surprised. you looked absolutely amazing.

- you decided to catch up with one another, still getting along and sharing stories and memories you had with each other. it’s almost as if you never left. you were even meeting up every day.

- “it’s almost as if you never left. you know, you look amazing.” raiden complimented.

- “thanks, raiden. you look great too! especially when you come back from a long day in the fields, i can clearly see some muscle there. you put in a lot of work, huh?” you teased, making him blush.

- “well, uh, i do my best. i know what i do makes the village thrive. but.. i didn’t know you noticed. and i didn’t know you were looking at my uh, muscles.” he replied, slightly exposing you.

- that pretty much continued for a few weeks, as you both were slightly flirting but neither of you actually made the first move. but one day, raiden finally gained the courage to confess to you.

- he woke up early that morning to freshen himself up and give himself a pep talk in front of his bathroom mirror.

- “okay, you can do this raiden. just tell them how you feel. can’t be that hard…” he told himself.

- he rushed to buy goods and some candy for you, preparing a basket full of it. he was ready to confess his feelings to you.

- he showed up at your doorstep, and raiden was thinking of everything that could possibly go wrong. maybe you were in a bad mood? maybe he bought too much candy? was he shaking? did his hair look nice?

- “raiden? what’s up?” you asked, answering the door.

- “listen, i uh.. i like you. a lot. i really enjoyed being your friend all these years, but i fell in love with you over these past few weeks. i couldn’t stop thinking of you pretty much every day, it was like i was put under a spell. but i suppose, in a way, i was. you have bewitched me body and soul. i haven’t felt this way for anyone before.” raiden admitted.

- he kind of rambled a bit, but you understood exactly what he meant. you felt the same way.

- raiden was extremely relieved that you reciprocated his feelings. you both went on to have a happy, safe relationship. you wouldn’t change it for the world.

rain: rivals to lovers

- rain was a mage. and so were you.

- however, he mastered the ways of water. you mastered fire. they don’t go together.

- “my water will put out your flames.” rain threatened.

- “oh no, a splash of water, i’m so scared.” you replied sarcastically.

- you both tried to one-up the other every time you saw each other, refusing to show weakness. you couldn’t even be in a room together without staring each other down the whole time.

- the longer you were rivals, the more tension there was between you. other people even assumed you were dating already.

- you both wanted to be the most powerful mage in outworld. you just couldn’t agree on anything. he was so annoying, wasn’t he? and the way he would stare at you at every chance he got. the way he always had his full attention on you. even the way he was so dedicated to arguing with you for months.

- until you two finally sparred together.

- “i am tired of you. please shut up.” rain groaned.

- “make me.” you threatened.

- “oh, i will.”

- then, you both ended up fighting for hours. it was an even match. neither of you wished to give up, but you were tired of fighting.

- “listen, rain.. i think we should just admit it’s a tie…” you said, panting between words.

- “you think?” rain sighed, as you both finally stopped fighting.

- you both took a moment to sit down and regain your energy in silence. comfortable silence.

- something was probably in the air, because you were suddenly not fighting. neither verbally nor physically. just.. enjoying each other’s company for the first time in months.

- “you’re… very strong.” rain mumbled.

- “oh? what was that? can you repeat that for me? i don’t think i heard you very clearly…” you teased.

- he rolled his eyes. “you heard me loud and clear.”

- you laughed. “yeah, i did. thanks, zeffeero. you’re pretty strong too. to be honest, i was kind of nervous for this fight. i know we always argue, but i still admire your skills… i guess.” you admitted.

- his eyes widened in surprise. “oh… thank you. i always admired your skills as well. your pyromancy is extremely impressive. perhaps…” he put a finger to his chin. “we should train together instead of fighting.”

- you agreed to his offer and you started frequently sparring together in a friendly way. you even ended up confessing to one another after a few weeks of friendliness, and becoming a powerful couple. you’re both grateful for your rivalry in the beginning, because you have already seen the worst of each other. now, you can see only the good parts in one another.

syzoth: forbidden love

- you were royalty and you were ordered to marry other royalty or at least rich

- when you met syzoth, you immediately fell in love

- “are you sure you want *me,* your highness? i mean, i could never distract you from the throne..” syzoth asked, always feeling insecure.

- “nonsense, syzoth.” you comforted. “i truly love you. i don’t care if you aren’t royalty.”

- but the more you spent time with him, the more terrible you felt, knowing you couldn’t marry him

- but at the same time… it felt so fun. sneaking him inside the palace and trying not to get caught. cuddling in bed at night and talking quietly so you won’t be heard. syzoth turning invisible anytime you heard guards nearby. the thrill of it just made your romance more fun.

- until you *actually* got caught. that wasn’t fun.

- your name was dragged through dirt for being in love with a zaterran. you were shunned from your family. but that didn’t stop you from being with him.

- “your highness, please, don’t risk the throne for me. you shouldn’t be seen with me anymore. i do not wish to make you suffer.” syzoth begged. he didn’t want to leave you, but he didn’t want to see your life fall apart because of him.

- “i don’t care. you make me so happy, syzoth. you love me for who i am, and i do the same for you. i have no problems with giving up my status for you. besides, you aren’t ruining my life. you’re making it so much better.” you reassured.

- but it turns out, you got to keep your throne. you threatened to leave your palace and give up your royalty, but your family didn’t want that. so they reluctantly let you have syzoth as your consort, even though half of the kingdom wasn’t very pleased with that. you didn’t care. you were just glad you don’t have to keep your lover a secret anymore.

shang tsung: partners in crime (it’s not rlly a trope but who cares)

- shang tsung ? dedicated to someone and working alongside them ? what is this sorcery…

- it’s self explanatory. you and him are just a power couple. you fight alongside one another and you help him come up with plans.

- anytime one of you gets in trouble, the other helps. you’re just two troublemaking lovers bent on destroying the people around you. it’s a surprisingly healthy relationship considering the fact that you both ruin lives and kill people daily.

- shang tsung is devoted to you. he would kill for you without hesitation. and he expects the same from you. he sees you as his equal and he expects you to always be there for him and support his decisions, no matter how twisted they are. he does listen to your input and opinions, but that doesn’t mean he takes orders from you.

- oh remember how you both kill people together? he loves your strength. he loves how you look when you kill people. all his favorite memories with you are when you kiss while standing on the dead bodies of his enemies.

- “darling, you look absolutely ravishing. but must you be so messy?” shang tsung asks, pointing at your blood-stained clothes.

- “thank you, my love. i know i was a bit messy, but don’t you think it’s a representation of our hard work? our art?” you reason.

- shang tsung smiled at your explanation. “you have a point. you’ve always been so good at winning me over.”

- even when he was almost locked up outworld. if it wasn’t for you, he probably would’ve been executed.

- you noticed he never came home one day, and you knew something was up, you felt it in your gut.

- you went around outworld, specifically sun do. you wore a disguise and simply walked around, hoping someone would mention seeing him. considering the fact that you and him are both very recognizable faces in outworld, someone must’ve seen him.

- “did you hear shang tsung is finally lock up in sun do’s prisons?” you hear a merchant say.

- in prison? he got caught? whatever, you can lecture shang tsung later. you had to save him first.

- you broke into the prison at night, knocking out every umgadi soldier you saw. they definitely will try to find you when they wake up, but that didn’t matter to you. all that mattered to you at the moment was that you had to free your lover.

- “amazing work, darling.” shang tsung praised, as soon as he saw you in front of his cell.

- “praise me later, i’ll break you out now.” you whispered, hoping no other umgadi showed up.

- you both ran out the palace, not caring about whatever destruction you caused in the process of escaping.

- that whole scenario happens at least once every few months now. you always have to save his ass every time shang tsung gets put in a jail. in return, he grants you freedom and his love. he hopes someday he can rule the realms with you by his side as his consort.

- for now, he must be patient. his dream will come true someday, but for now, he is content with always being on the run with you. living a couple years of crime with his beloved doesn’t bother him one bit.

smoke: grumpy x sunshine

- smoke is not a completely soft, happy-go-lucky guy. he is a brave fighter that puts his strength and energy into the shirai ryu. however, he’s still extremely kind to his loved ones.

- when he met you, he was confused about your cold, almost angry exterior. it almost gave him flashbacks to the way bi-han treated him when he was a child.

- thankfully, you weren’t that bad. you weren’t mean, just distant and occasionally emotionless. smoke made it his personal mission to help you prove yourself non-intimidating now that you were a couple. especially because you were very soft in private.

- people were usually confused when they found out you two were together. how can someone as kind as tomas choose to be with you? you’re total opposites.

- he always defended you from your doubters. he gets annoyed when someone puts your name in their mouths. if only they understood you. if only they put in the effort to get to know you, they’d understand.

- but you reassured him that you can’t control what other people think. he knows you’re right, but he still can’t help but wish other people would stop judging you just because you ‘look’ mean.

- “i just wish they would see you for who you are. i know you aren’t rude. you’re just.. a bit distant.” smoke sighed.

- “don’t stress about it, tomas.” you reassured, running your fingers through his hair. “i appreciate that you defend me all the time, but it’s kind of my fault. you don’t need to apologize for how i act.”

- however, smoke now has scary dog privileges. (it’s you you’re the scary dog)

- anytime a random person comes up and flirts with him, they see your death stare behind him and immediately run away. even if you aren’t doing it on purpose.

- anytime someone tries to use him for his kindness, you shut them down and defend him. but it’s not that smoke *needs* defending. he’s strong enough, but you still like to step in and defend him just like he defends you.

- he appreciates that you look out for him just like he does for you. you both love each other very much, and he accepts you for who you are. he doesn’t judge you for struggling to express emotions, and he learned to read your emotions in smaller gestures like your body language and your eyes. you are his love, his treasure, his beloved. he just wants you to be happy and safe, no matter what other people say about your relationship.

pairing(s): kenshi, johnny, havik, kuai liang/scorpion x gn!reader (seperate) synopsis: you’re a thief — a riff raff amongst the scum of seido. yet somehow you’re on the wrong side of justice, serving outworld. notes: - out of my volition, this was inspired by batman and cat woman’s cute dynamic <3 - LIKE REMBER THAT SCENE… where selina touches bruce’s face ?!?! (from batman 2022!!)

KENSHI TAKAHASHI -> There were many things Kenshi expected from his visit to the Outworld. Meeting you was not one of them. From your first encounter, you captured his attention — as subtle and graceful as a feline, he would say, your presence startled him and the rest of his friends. “General Shao, how unwise of you to berate our guests at first notice!” Your lively manner relieves the suspense between Outworld’s militaria and Earthrealm’s protector. He could discern the disturbance from the man in question as General Shao crudely sneered. Liu Kang clears his throat and gives you a content nod. You are fast — he thinks, always swift to leeway into conversations that have gone bitter. Kenshi does not recall mention of you - but it didn't matter.

-> “This is none of your concern, ambassador,” Shao’s words were only meant for disdain and spite. You modestly give a lazy smile — like a Cheshire, not taking his insult seriously. “Oh, but my duties are to accompany Liu Kang’s champions. The Empress demands it.” Your indulgence prevails when the general fails to make another quip. In the crowd, Kenshi is impressed by your way of words. You were an intriguing person – he will give you that. But you did not seem a person particularly invested in politics. You were apathetic to your job. -> At dinner, you conveniently visit his table with a wine glass. Liu Kang seemingly welcomes you, taking the seat across from the swordsman. Conversations were comfortable with you. As a diplomatic envoy, you’re surprisingly judgemental - and not afraid to communicate the demands of other cities. Glimpses from the princesses as you proceed with a story about the rulers of Sun Do. Infuriating it was to comply with their city’s needs like a glorified servant. Kitana is quick to pick on your drunken pursuit and drag you to your quarters. By the time you left, Kenshi felt enamored by you and your stories. “They're quite the character.” -> There were rumors about you he could not ignore. Everywhere in the palace were snakes, more willing to let him know of your past. They say you were once a thief, a lowly criminal in the capital. How you came to become the royal ambassador was appalling to others at court. You were born into the lowest class. And here in Edenia, it was deemed as dishonorable. You did not grow up with the same education or environmental conditions. It makes Kenshi question your motives for coming here. How did you end up at this high establishment? It was not from pity - he knew from that. Maybe you were a strong fighter. Who was stubborn and willing to do anything to achieve your goals. -> Unbeknownst, as his interest in you escalated, you took notice of him. The swordsman with an unfortunate past, you held compassion for Kenshi. And as your relationship bloomed, your respect for each other was apparent. You both worked harmoniously together well. In unison with your devious yet insightful strategies and his keen and precise swordsmanship. You taught Kenshi the ins and outs of the city. Tried to teach him how to steal and work up to the market sellers to bid lower prices. You always kept him on his toes. And Kenshi loved that about you. To you, the ex-yakuza held you in check – of your duties. Although he enjoys your time fooling around together, it would put the swordsman much at ease if you took your job seriously. With the realm's tense position, he urges you to take control and compromise with the other cities for the coming battle. And hopefully, when the war is over, the two of you will reconcile your relationship and make it official. [ kenshi ]: how can i convince you to stop stealing? [ you ]: have you ever thought about asking nicely?

JOHNNY CAGE -> He’s the one to catch you first. Johnny had clear suspicions of you during the first night of the tournament. When you spoke with officials and the royal family, it was too noticeable to miss. You were hiding something - Johnny wanted to get to the bottom of it. He finds your kindness to the princesses overbearing. Because why would a constable be affiliated with the royal family more than themselves? And the movie star had to open his mouth at dinner, eyeing you down with an arched brow. -> “Uh Liu Kang, I don’t mean to be rude but,” Both your eyes make contact – he quickly reverts his view to the god in question, “I think that person’s kinda shady, don’t you think?” His remark makes the rest of the Earth’s champions freeze, and the tightness of the air becomes far too evident. Liu Kang pauses, setting his teacup down, and looks to where you stand. From the far corner, you were chatting with Li Mei, arms crossed. You were enjoying your discussion until you sensed Liu Kang’s stare to tilt your head and give a playful wave. The First Constable thought nothing of your actions, how accustomed she is to how you acted around Earthrealmers, always telling them outlandish lies about Outworld. And constantly pretending to commit some heinous crime against the royal family. Something you would never do. -> “Fear not, Johnny Cage. They are no threat.” The Fire God’s words relieved the tension in the air. As everyone’s shoulders relax, Johnny probes on. He knows what trouble looks like – his mother was a cop! However, Kenshi waves his bickering off and waves them off as dull excuses. Nothing to worry about? You could be doing something behind the Empress and Constable's back. Maybe it was the way you carried yourself that got his attention. Or the comments his mentor sarcastically made about the dangers of Outworld. It was unlike Johnny to feel this paranoid. He had to figure out who you were. -> The movie star believed that once he caught you in an act, it would prove to his friends and Liu Kang that he was right about you. When he, Kung Lao, and Kenshi snuck into Shang Tsung's laboratory, surprisingly not, you were there alongside Rain, Tanya, and Princess Mileana on a medical chair. Just when Shang Tsung slowly approached the princess with a syringe with Tarkart's blood, they attacked. The movie star willingly stepped in your direction as if he caught you red-handed. “I knew it! You were behind all of this!” -> Everything turned bitter when Kenshi lost his eyesight to Mileana’s outbreak. It leaves a foul taste in Johnny's mouth once the situation is to be the treatment for the princess’s prolonged illness. When the royal guards come, you turn to face the Earthrealmers. “Did you truly think I would go against the royal family?” There was a flash of fury to scorn. “You Earthrealmers know nothing about Outworld business.” Johnny could only accept his wrongdoings, face facing down to the floor in shame and guilt. While what Liu Kang suspected of Shang Tsung was true – his assumptions of you weren’t. And for that, the movie star genuinely feels like he has misjudged you entirely. -> It takes time for him to reconcile with you. Escaping from Shang Tsung’s laboratory with his friends, he doesn’t meet you again. But when Earthrealm compromises with Outworld, you reappear alongside Li Mei and the royal family. In a different light, you’re easy on the eyes. Johnny desperately tries to make it up to you, always finding ways to warm up to your bitterness. Though much like a cat, you’re persistent and glares in his direction. Soon after, he learns of your past and is suddenly guilt-ridden even more.

-> Your relationship is a slow and rocky one. The two of you did not see eye to eye at the start. Johnny was wary of you, and you only made it worse by indulging in it. You two were at odds with each other. However, Johnny was somehow smitten with you. You were cunning and sly in all the ways a constable shouldn’t be. It was one of the ways he got your attention – suggesting all kinds of schemes against his friends. Your past never bothered him. Stead, it’s something he’s proud of you for. “I mean, thief turned cop? Now that’s a story I can get behind.” It brings a sort of middle ground and closure to both of you. [ johnny ]: look i know i misjudged you pretty harshly, how can i make it up to you? [ you ]: you can start by loaning me some money.

HAVIK -> He longs for you. Havik is too cruel and adamant to tell you, but he misses you. Many years before you left Seido, you were happily thriving as a criminal. He recalls his younger years, you and him pillaging villages. Stealing all you can to survive in the cruel world they decided to reject you from. Back then, you were free – out of touch with humanity and the rest of the Outworld. You didn’t care for his plans to run Seido to the ground and bring chaos. You didn’t understand it – you were merely teenagers, children. -> Before long, you slipped out of Havik's hand. The life you two endured was not living. Every day, you struggle to find food and shelter to stay by. It did not help for your kleptomaniac habits, mugging passing citizens of whatever they had on. Eventually, it had caught up to you, Havik deciphers. Because why else would you leave him? Unlike him, you left clues for the military to track you. You loved the thrill of leading them to nowhere. -> But now, the thought of you brings turmoil into his heart. He sees you in the distance when Quan Chi is interrupted by a former ally. There you were, he stands almost in shock and petrification. Havik was furious. All he could focus on was the plan to allow time to release Quan Chi’s creation, Ermac. He never considered where you would be until now that you were on the opposite side of justice. Why? -> “How could you,” Your name runs down his tongue like a pack of needles. It’s difficult to pronounce your name after many years of separation. Years prior, it was the Emperor. But with the reign of Sindel, peace and prosperity had become a failing occurrence between both realms. Outworld claims to be growing more powerful – to overpower Earthrealm for the upcoming tournament. It makes Kuai Liang question his integrity and place at the palace when the Fire God asks for his presence instead of his brother. Bi-Han is the grandmaster of Lin Kuei, “Shouldn’t Bi-Han be the better option to accompany you?” -> “I do not want to provoke the Empress,” Liu Kang explains, looking at him from the portal. The pyromancer had confidence in his protector, nodding. His plain response was all it took to understand the weight of their appearance in Outworld. Though Bi-Han would be the rightful companion, it is Kuai Liang – the younger and more compliant brother who could ease into any circumstance. But his nerves are jaded. Kuai Liang is nervous, not knowing what the occasion was for. There could be many reasons for their requested presence. Yet he could not think of one that involved Lin Kuei. -> Scorpion’s mindset eases when you surprise him. Guests are presumably guided by the First Constable, Li Mei, to the courtyard leading to the royal palace. Your head pops out from a bush, smiling in all your glory. “Lord Liu Kang, what a pleasant surprise!” The fire user's heart pounces every time you do this. It would be wrong not to expect you to greet Outworld guests in such an unconventional manner. Your name comes easily to the Fire God, with a sense of familiarity. “How nice of you to see us first,” Even Liu Kang takes joy in you. Unlike the many faces of the royal court, you are much more tolerable and pleasant to converse with. Even Kuai Liang thinks highly of you. -> Nodding your hair flows in such an elegant way. The Empress dotted you – but your loyalties lay with General Shao. Your go-lucky personality was in defiance of your rank as a lieutenant general. Yes, Kuai Liang recalled the previous tournaments and how distant Lin Kuei was from the Outworld’s military. They do not see eye to eye in handling foreign threats and commoners. It is your chief's distaste for Earthrealm, always speaking out of malice. But you were not like General Shao or Reiko. You never showed hatred towards Lin Kuei or Earthrealm. -> Kuai Liang feels restful chatting with you. He sat in the conference room with the Fire God as the rest of the court minded their seats. In such a large establishment, it holds divinity and high status, not even Kuai Liang is used to. Empress Sindel, alongside General Shao, you and Reiko arrive and take your respective seats. You are a few seats left of him and warmly nod in Scorpion's direction. He flushes at how a casual gesture from you can incite him. -> Ordinarily, matters began. The pyromancer had no desire to speak amongst the crowd, only per Liu Kang’s permission. Yet, a disagreement broke the two sides of the table in half. “Why should we allow Earthrealmers to roam unworldly like children while our cities burn?” General Shao and his recurring rants about Earthrealm. No one could convince him otherwise, not even the Empress. He then directly sneers at Liu Kang. Kuai Liang darts a stern look until he hears your voice in the corner, standing firm from all the voices that cower over you. There is a hint of softness out of the goodness of your heart addressing your superior. Compared to life in Earthrealm, life is precious, a tangent between innocence and purity, something Outworld is indifferent to.

-> In response, a repulsed look forms on Shao’s face. “You dare defend Liu Kang's wishes? You have no right!” In truth, you knew you could never quench his thirst to repress Earthrealm. But to try to diminish his outrageous outburst for another day is good enough. Curses and insults were spat from all sides, even directed towards you. You and your kind would not understand. Guys, it's time to come clean.. My headcanons have never been in full. Yeah, in my true headcanons Johnny was blinded instead of Kenshi(bc Johnny getting blinded instead is underrated) but I kept it out because I thought you guys wouldn't like it. Also, Johnny has his powers but instead of green it's red(bc Johnny with red powers is canon but very underrated). But I finally decided to come clean and put my headcanons in full.

Coldstar Headcanons, Part VII: The Truth

(That actually sounds like a badass title😆)

• Johnny is a descendant of Scandinavia and Greece and the sole surviving member the Karlatun Clan. (Canon doesn't have anything about the quote unquote "Mediterranean clan" Johnny descended from so I created a name myself)

• Johnny spoils Bi-Han. He loves to give him gifts, at least once a day. Such is the life of a celebrity. It can be anything, really. He also loves physical touch. I mean, he is a blind man. Johnny specifically loves it when Bi-Han guides him, with his hand on his shoulder or bicep. It makes him feel very present, especially with the complete loss of his sight. And that's something he cherishes.

• It's only when one of them is badly wounded, that Bi-Han says "I love you" to Johnny- when they are healed, Johnny beams from that point on. One of these moments was when Johnny was blinded by Mileena and stabbed by Shao(that's a story for another day I'm afraid).

• Ever since Johnny came to Outworld, he has been having prophetic dreams of Raiden wielding lightning, Kenshi blindfolded and levitating Sento ahead of him, Liu Kang and his cold hands, Bi-Han and a demonic shadow-like figure constantly looming over him, himself and burning hot fire.

• Bi-Han is protective of Johnny but he's even more so in an unfamiliar place. After the Mileena incident, he will not let Johnny out of his sight and glares at anyone who tries to talk to him.

• Rather than Kenshi, Johnny is the one blinded by Mileena. It's because of Johnny's prophetic dreams that he decided to pull Mileena away from Kenshi, allowing himself to be blinded.

• After getting blinded, Johnny gained a unique "radar sense" that allows him to perceive the proximity and arrangement of objects around him. He cannot, however, discern pictures or video images, and he can only guess at colors based on the amount of heat they are absorbing or reflecting. (Johnny is basically MK's Daredevil)

• Rose(Johnny's mom) was the very woman who taught Johnny how to do that.

• After getting blinded, Johnny matured considerably, losing much of his earlier arrogance and shortsightedness. In the process, he becomes an overall well rounded and serious character, although his penchant for humor remains mostly intact.

• After gaining his powers, Johnny was sent to Seido for several months(this was before Bi-Han was courting Johnny, he started courting him the day he returned)much to the displeasure and anger of Bi-Han and Kenshi.

• Sometimes, Johnny's fellow kombatants forget Johnny is blind- leading to some funny moments similar to A:TLA when the Gaang forgets Toph is blind(perks of being a multifandom😎)

Havik loved chaos. He loved anything that went against order. He hated questions, and it took you a long time to get used to it.

While Chaosrealm had no ruler, he sort of took charge of it. He kept the waters safe from Seido. He was also the only Chaosrealmer that could speak forwards, like everyone else, and backward, which the people of Chaosrealm spoke.

Very little scared or surprised, Havik. He was used to expecting the unexpected. Despite how Chaosrealm followed after its name, the weather never changed. It was always hot and lava bubbled in the cracks of the land. Havik traveled with you back to Earthrealm, and the weather had grown cold. It bothered Havik, who was used to the hotter weather. He didn't try to understand why the weather had changed as he enjoyed the chaos of it all, but the coldness was something he did not enjoy. Havik stayed inside as he watched the snow fall to the ground and stick. The snow would only continue to grow as the snow continued to fall and stick.

You sat down and picked a movie out to watch.

"Havik, come watch a movie with me, please." You called out to him. You had paused the movie and waited for him to come over.

He came over and sat down. You covered his lap with your blanket, and you snuggled closer to him. Havik wrapped an arm around you, and you hit the play button.

The beginning wasn't bad, but as the story continued, the story only became scarier. At times, you hid your face into Havik's neck.

He continued to sit there. Sometimes, he would rub your shoulder as a way to comfort you. Despite half of his face missing, you had learned to see the emotions in his eyes. You looked at him, and he showed nothing but love for you. You turned your attention to the screen, and it seemed to be a bit better.

Havik wasn't bothered by the scariness of it. He loved how chaotic it was. He loved not being able to guess what would happen next. It was fun for him, and it was on the screen. It wasn't real, and it wasn't going to actually happen. As far as he knew.

The movie ended, and you hid against Havik. He rubbed your arm for comfort and continued to hold you. Until you were ready to sit up.

"That was scary."

"Maybe we should watch something else next time."

"We can't. It's Halloween!" You said, looking at him.

"That doesn't mean anything. There are no rules on watching scary movies on a specific day." Not that he would follow that rule or law, anyway.

"I like watching scary movies on Halloween. It's part of the celebration!"

"Maybe we should watch something less scary for you then." His eyes twinkled, and you smiled at him.

Of course, you didn't have to watch something less scary. However, Havik was just trying to help you out.

One of the things I find so interesting about Miyuki's path to Seido is that, in the anime, it seems like he's never talked about it with anyone on the team. This adds some interesting layers to Chris and Miyuki's relationship, which is already characterized by a ton of implied off-screen interaction and unspoken connection. During Miyuki's flashback episode, one of the most-overlooked parts is the bus scene which acts as a framing device. It's filled with fascinating mico-interactions and hints of character dynamics.

We start with Sawamura making a racket about Miyuki talking to Mei. Chris (almost always seen as Miyuki's bus partner), after confirming that Narumiya was there, doesn't question Miyuki's loyalty or ask what they discussed. Instead, he makes a comment that he had heard Miyuki was invited to the same school as Mei. Judging by Miyuki's intense reaction, he's never talked about that with anyone at Seido, especially not Chris.

They seem like they're in their own world as they have a long-overdue silent discussion, with both of them and Rei ignoring Sawamura's screaming. Kuramochi, ever-observant and in charge of keeping Sawamura in line, tells him to shut up despite neither catcher saying a word out loud.

Miyuki's eyes are hidden by his glasses as he calls Chris and Rei's names, something usually seen when he wants to hide his true feelings. Both react with surprise as he mentions them.

However, when he expresses why he said their names, Chris is the only one who still seems shocked, while Rei gives a warm, knowing smile. It appears as though Miyuki has never expressed to Chris how much influence he had over Miyuki's decision, and Chris never figured it out through all his research on other players.

It makes me wonder if Chris was unaware simply due to his injury or if Miyuki hid it from him to protect both himself from showing that vulnerability and Chris from the added guilt of disappointing a kohai. It also makes me wonder, both from this interaction and the one on Miyuki's birthday when Rei takes him to see Chris at PT, whether she knowingly used Chris' importance to Miyuki to guide him to Seido. It feels like, from her expression here, she has been fully aware of their connection since she scouted Miyuki.

Finally, it's worth noting that Miyuki's smiles in this section are consistently softer than usual. Private, almost. Both before his flashback and afterward, when he looks at Chris and contemplates if being here was destiny, he smiles in a way that he never does when he speaks to his teammates. We really only see that genuine emotion from Miyuki in the story when no one's looking at him and he's contemplating how much he loves baseball, his team, or he looks at Chris.

MK1 Character Writing Review

I'm curious about other fans' opinions on MK1's character writing. Personally, I think it's improved most characters but there are some issues.

Ashrah: I'm happy she's back because Ashrah was the 3D-era character I wanted to return. I really like that they kept her story from the 3D era but improved it. I'm curious to see if she'll get corrupted by the Kriss in the next game.

Baraka: His story improved immensely. I never cared for Baraka in the previous games since he wasn't developed enough and was just one of Shao Kahn's henchmen. Baraka being a victim of Tarkat makes him more sympathetic and interesting. I hope he gets a happy ending but I think he'll die in the later games.

General Shao: I'm a bit disappointed in how he was written. I was hoping we'd learn about his past and how it affected his personality. Shao was born with a weak body, so I expected his father to be abusive by forcing Shao to go beyond his limits. This would cause Shao to believe being strong is the only thing that matters. Hopefully, the next story portrays Shao as more than a stock villain.

Geras: I really liked this version of Geras compared to MK11's since he's more than Kronika's minion. He's loyal to Liu Kang but they are friends/partners, and Geras wants to protect Liu Kang's timeline because he believes in its potential.

Havik: I was really interested in learning about Havik, his powers, and the Chaos realm. I was disappointed that Havik was a minor character and his powers weren't explained. I heard that there will be a story taking place in Seido/Order Realm so I'm crossing my fingers that we'll have a great story for Havik and other Order/Chaos realm characters.

Johnny Cage: His backstory and personality didn't change that much which I'm glad for because MK9-11 Johnny had one of the best character arcs in that era. I really enjoyed his bromance with Kenshi and his comedic moments were really fun (my favorite was the Alien reference).

Kenshi: Kenshi's story was already good but it was improved upon and explored further. Kenshi wanting Sento to protect his family from the Yakuza and bring back the Taira clan made me sympathize with him, and actually seeing how he loses his sight was horrifying and broke my heart. His bromance was Johnny was one of my favorite parts and I hope they are in future games together.

Kitana: I found Kitana kind of bland. Unfortunately, with her old goal of wanting to be an Empress going to Mileena, she lost what made her interesting. She felt more like Mileena's sidekick rather than her own character. Maybe that'll change in future games since she's a part of Mileena's council.

Kung Lao: Kung Lao was likable and enjoyable. I don't have much to say other than that. I want the next story to explore his ego/arrogance and why he has that attitude. Although I really like Raiden as Earthrealm's champion, I sort of wish Kung Lao was the champion since he's wished for that opportunity for so long.

Li Mei: Li Mei is an okay character. She's kind of boring since she's a "follow the rules" character. Her and Sindel's friendship was the most interesting aspect of her. Li Mei's powers are really cool though, and I'm a big fan of Kelly Hu (her va).

Liu Kang: Having Liu Kang as Earth's protector and Time Keeper made his character more interesting compared to him being the "Chosen One." I am slightly disappointed in the way he was written. I expected/wanted Liu Kang to be a neutral good character where he's willing to do bad things to keep the peace. They kind of did that with Liu Kang creating meaningless lives for Shang Tsung and Quan-Chi, but he was never called out for those decisions. I also wanted the other characters to start questioning Liu Kang about why there are still tragedies occurring and why doesn't he intervene. Though we get it in the battle intros, I wanted it explored in the story. The writing for how Liu Kang's time powers was also pretty unclear. The power's restrictions were never specified so it's not obvious which events in the timeline are Liu Kang's mistakes or not.

Mileena: Adored her in this game! I love seeing Mileena happy for once with a loving family and a good life. I expected her to be overtaken by Tarkat the whole but was happy to see her with a regular mouth for most of the game. Having her as Empress is really interesting and can't wait to see more of that.

Nitara: I really wanted to like Nitara, yet she's so bland. I thought we would learn about Vaternius, and see Nitara being a truly neutral character. Compared to the other 3D characters in the game, she was the most disappointing.

Raiden: This version of Raiden is way more likable than previous iterations. He's nice, humble, handsome, and strong. He's literally the perfect man! I'd like his anger issues from the previous iterations to be developed in the next story. His anger would get out of control after a tragedy and he feels like being more ruthless is more beneficial to protecting everyone.

Rain: I don't have much to say about Rain. He's kind of boring and was sidelined in the game. Maybe he'll have some kind of connection to Delia and Argus, which will introduce them to the new timeline.

Reiko: Reiko's okay. The only thing I'm really interested in is his relationship with General Shao and it's mostly me wondering whether Shao is capable of caring/loving someone.

Reptile: Love this rendition of Reptile! Like Baraka, Syzoth is more complex and isn't only Shao Kahn's minion. He has one of my favorite designs in the game and his backstory shows the issue of internal racism. The only thing I'm iffy about is his family that was murdered was his wife and son since that is very similar to Baraka's backstory to losing his wife and children to Tarkat. Plus, it's kind of weird that he moved on with Ashrah relatively quickly. I would've preferred if his family were his parents or siblings.

Scorpion: At first, I was a bit iffy about Kuai Liang being Scorpion but think it was a good choice since it makes the rivalry between the Lin Kuei and the Shirai-Ryu more personal. I'm excited to see how his and Sub-Zero's story moves forward.

Sindel: Good queen and mom Sindel is best Sindel! She was very likable! I had a feeling she would die in the story though her soul being absorbed into Ermac was unexpected. I'm interested in where this story will go.

Shang Tsung: I really enjoyed how sassy Shang Tsung was, and was glad he was the main villain after so long. The only thing I'm disappointed in is we didn't see more of his backstory. Also, the idea of Shang Tsung being evil all along NRS was going with was pretty lame. I wanted to see whether Shang Tsung was truly born evil or if was he made that way because of his hardships. It being the latter would've been intriguing because it means Liu Kang technically created Shang Tsung.

Smoke: Smoke is a sweetie, but didn't have much going for him. I was really interested in Smoke when he was in MK9 so I expected him to have his own chapter and develop. Maybe the Lin Kuei/Shirai Ryu war will give me that.

Sub-Zero: I hoped Bi-Han would be an interesting antihero instead of a generic villain. His betrayal is fine, but I wish he was more indecisive or slightly regretful of his choice since he lost his brothers. For example, when he slashed Kuai Liang's eye, I wanted to see him be regretful and sorry for hurting his brother. We didn't get that, which is one of the biggest disappointments of the story.

Tanya: I'm neutral with Tanya. Personally, her role and personality are too similar to Jade's. She felt like a totally different character who happened to have the same name as the original Tanya. Changing a character's story is okay, yet there should be some part of the original iteration that stays. I do find her and Mileena super sweet and I hope they live a happy life.

Why Eijun Sawamura getting his Ace tag is the most cathartic moment in sports anime history: Essay

Background

The Diamond No Ace manga has been serialising since 2006 and it has taken the sports anime industry by storm. The longevity of this manga comes from a time where manga from this genre would go on for a very long time, with examples such as Ahiru No Sora and Dear Boys. Modern sports manga would dictate such that it's a lot shorter than its older counterparts, with Haikyuu ending at 403 chapters and Kuroko ending at 275 chapters. Diamond No Ace however, uses long term story telling akin to series such as One Piece to pay off some of its narrative high points.

A typical high school sports anime has a template as such: Team plays the inter high => loses to a strong team => tries again with the next nation-wide tournament => qualifies for the national tournament. It's a tried and true formula which has been proven to work many times. What does it mean for Diamond No Ace? It's not typical whatsoever.

Many sports anime would feature an underdog team but Diamond No Ace does the opposite: It features a powerhouse team in the strongest baseball region in Japan. Seido High School has been well renowned as one of the strongest schools in the Tokyo region, with many Koshien (national tournament) appearances before the main plotline takes place. Players that join the school for baseball have an exceptional skill and talent for it, and usually have been playing the sport for many years. In this case, what's so interesting about a team that's already developed? The main character: Eijun Sawamura!

Eijun Sawamura was basically from the boonies, the countryside and played baseball for fun with his childhood friends as a pitcher. He was seen with promise and potential by a Seido scout and made a difficult decision to move to Tokyo and pursue his dreams of becoming a pro baseball player. However, he found himself inferior to many of the players. Mainly, Furuya.

The importance of an ace tag

Furuya Satoru was another 1st Year player scouted to play for Seido as a pitcher. His relationship with Sawamura is akin to other sports anime duos such as Kageyama and Hinata and Rukawa and Sakuragi. From the very beginning, Satoru was labelled as the better pitcher. What did this mean?

He was in the way of Sawamura becoming the Ace of Seido High School. After being told that he was filled with promise and potential, as well as moving away from his family, friends and his entire life, Sawamura instead found himself playing second, nay third fiddle to the ace of the school. It was at this moment he knew the hard work that he had to put in to put the school on his back as the future ace.

The ace tag, the number 1 on the back of the players, is only given to pitchers who have shown great talent and aptitude in breaking down the defense of their opposing team's batting order. Throughout the series, it was emphasised that the reason why Seido wasn't a top tier team was because they lacked the indomitable ace that was present in other powerhouse teams like Inashiro. The appearance of Furuya and Sawamura would inevitably begin the battle of who would become Seido's ace and lead the team to become the National Champions.

Losses and heartbreak

The first challenge for Seido was the Summer Koshien tournament. Seido usually makes it very far into the bracket as they are a powerhouse team. However, since Tokyo is one of the biggest and most competitive regions in Japan, it's split into East and West Tokyo. This meant that only one team from each split would make it to the Summer Koshien with the other teams in the nation. Seido undoubtedly blasts through the entire bracket until the finals where they face off against long time rivals: Inashiro High School.

The long time winners of the West Tokyo wing of the Koshien qualifiers, they were the undisputed champions of the region. With an unstoppable batting roster, they were already one of the best teams in Japan. What puts the cherry on top? Their ace, Narumiya Mei.

He was everything Seido was looking for to become the best team in Japan. The pitcher that could put his team on his back and lead them to victory. It was a battle of ideals akin to Shiratorizawa Vs Karasuno from Haikyuu. The heartbreaking thing was: Seido lost. Without a pitcher that could match Narumiya Mei, they just couldn't close out the game with their lead. We said goodbye to the Seido third years and this of course led to Sawamura feeling distraught and putting the blame on himself.

Yips

For the following months, Sawamura found himself in a state of despair. He wasn't able to pitch and improve like he was prior due to his mental failing. When someone like Sawamura puts the weight of the loss entirely on their own shoulder, it's bound to have consequences. However with the help of his teammates and coaches, Sawamura bounces back and slowly makes a recovery on the way to the Fall Koshien

A second try

After finding himself back on his feet, Seido had to go through a rebuilding phase to prepare for the next Summer Koshien: The Fall Koshien. Unlike other sports anime with a second chance, the Fall Koshien fulfills a criteria:

The third years aren't able to play, so no such thing as a Winter Cup or any cop out of such form

It ultimately doesn't have the same prestige as the Summer Koshien tournament.

This means that the loss against Inashiro still had weight and consequences and showed that Seido still had to move on with whatever they had left. Sawamura took this opportunity and ran with it as much as he could. In matches such as the Yakushi and Hakuryuu ones, Sawamura proved to be a skilled and amazing pitcher in his own right.

His biggest plus compared to Furuya was that he has variety in his pitches while Furuya mainly had speed. Sawamura diligently put in the effort but still played second fiddle to Furuya, who had become the new ace after the third years retired. This however did not affect Sawamura's journey and ambition as he and the rest of Seido moved forward through the Fall Koshien. Doing pretty well for themselves, they beat Yakushi in the finals of the qualifiers and made it to the quarter finals of the Fall Koshien before losing to the favourites, Komaidai Fujimaki.

The Ace Tag

After concluding their Fall Koshien journey, Seido found themselves in a new year with new first year students. This meant that there was a need to form a brand new roster with the new members and such. After the Fall Koshien, Furuya found himself in a rut. He was unable to pitch at such a high level consistently due to his godlike performance in the match against Komaidai Fujimaki. Furuya was still great don't get me wrong, but a certain someone was waiting in the shadows and showing off his new weapons and skill.

After a year in the plot and FIFTEEN YEARS IN REAL TIME, it was the moment everyone had been waiting for. The new year began with Sawamura pitching for Seido in practice matches. He had formed an amazing chemistry with the catcher, Miyuki. Sawamura developed new pitches that had a high level of consistency and variety. As a result, most teams that played against Sawamura had no idea what to do as they tried to predict his next move. Sawamura had become the rock of Seido.

His skill, improvements and consistency had proven to be an invaluable asset to the team and as a result, he was ultimately chosen to become the Ace of Seido, representing the entire team to once again take on the Summer Koshien.

Conclusion

Whatever I have touched on was just the tip of the iceberg of the brilliant storytelling that is Diamond No Ace. The other narrative threads such as the third years retiring, Miyuki's story arc and Chris' back story has a comparable amount of emotional weight but this particular thread had one thing that shines from the rest: Long term storytelling. It was a story that was 15 years in the making, every page, every drawing and every word in the manga led to this moment where Sawamura achieves his first big milestone as a baseball player. The story is far from over as Seido has yet to win the Summer Koshien and I am excited to see what's next in possibly Act III of Diamond no Ace.

With all this being said, Sawamura getting his ace tag is the most cathartic moment in Sports manga history. (My opinion LOL)

I assume that when creating Havik MK1 writer(s) had this whole idea of mocking “twitter libertarians” who always talk about PRIVILEGE and OPPRESSION.

At times Havik does sound like a broken record. And I supposed for fuckboys it must be very funny. “Finally! Somebody brave enough to show how stupid and nonsensical those libs are!”

But for me I really feel a bit enraged the more I think about Havik’s predicament. He was born a slave in a VERY fucked up place. If MK1 Seido is anything like Mk: Deception Seido, I already feel sorry for all of its citizens. Let alone those without any rights in a world of Order.

Havik is covered in scars, suffered deeply and had to make a deal with Quan Chi to get regeneration abilities.

Also Havik is clearly lost big chunk of his sanity along the way. This man is not ok in the slightest. Most of his intros he’s screaming at everyone.

And like ok, let’s analyse his position. First thing we see in Edenia is cops kicking starving and sick tarkata out of the city. No help being provided to them whatsoever.

Edenia is ruled by monarchy. Great. /s

Then Liu Kang shows up and stats criticising Havik delusional dreams of anarchy. Well bitch you could’ve let him chill in Chaosrealm with his homies. But you decided he needs to be born a slave, go trough torture and humiliation, until eventually he would ask Quan Chi for help.

Oh, sorry Liu, you wanted for Quan Chi to rot in coal mines or something. So in your perfect vision of the world, Havik wouldn’t even get any power-up to have a chance to help enslaved people of Seido??

And if the whole idea “welp Havik was evil so he have a shitty life now” IT’S NOT EVEN HAVIK. Its just Dairrou with new origin story. Dairrou was a merc who just wanted to kick Hotaru’s ass. Not a blood god who tried to summon Shinnok.

Something something, my persona as an MK OC.

Long story short, he's one of the member of the Sanctum of Seido (otherwise Orderrealm). Obsessed with keeping order, as any other Seido civilian, most presumably in matters of faith. Unlike other priests, Aquila is more laid-back and doesn't force his views of perfection upon non-Seidans. He may appear calculated and intimidating, but once you get to know him, he'll be the biggest jokester ever, competing with Johnny Cage. Some mistake him for an Edenian and he hates it. Loves dad puns and donuts.

Relationship with other characters:

Hotaru – despises him, despite the fact that priests are expected to treat guards with respect. Has nothing against other guards, just thinks that they need a different leader.

Darrius – used to be best friends until the Resistance happened. Is now mildly distrustful of him, even though deep down he still misses him.

Havik – is required to hate his guts, in reality - they're pretty chill together, even if Aquila tries to alter his decisions.

Ashrah – intrigued by her. Wants to know more about her path of redemption.

Kung Lao – mild crush (yeah OC x Canon cry about it).

Raiden – (previous timeline) worships him, but is concerned of his morality, (current timeline) "What a distinguished fellow!"

Johnny Cage – Friendly rivalry. Constantly compete on "Who has the best humor?".

Liu Kang – (previous timeline) tries to become friends just to get to know Lao better, (current timeline) worships, but recognizes his flaws and encourages to improve.

You don't have to read this to enjoy the story, but here is some background about the set up of my world and the rules that I've set for myself to (try to) abide by as I write. This is for my Professor Shang Tsung story idk if it's written anywhere in here.

💚🐍💀🔥 Locations.

The idea is that magic coexists with the science of this world but, science is more accessible because not everyone has great magical ability. (Reader) is a part of the generation of youth that's been making the two worlds intermingle.

The continents of this world are:

Outworld👑

SeaRealm🌊

LightRealm☄️

ChaosRealm⚔️

Seido⚙️

The Netherrealm ☠️is replaced by Otherrealm which is the place that most people go when they die.

Elderrealm/Alterrealm☁️ will stand in place of The Heavens as the place where all deities and pantheons reside. People who abide by their god's rules are allowed into their 'alter-pockets' instead of the standard afterlife in Otherrealm. These are the pocket dimensions owned by the individual deities that have enough power to make them.

Dreamrealm 💤is a plane of the mind.

💚🐍💀🔥 Geography.

Outworld👑 and Earthrealm are connected in a similar fashion like Europe and Asia are, with Earthrealm being the smaller part and connected to Outworld but divided by mountain ranges.

Earthrealm🌍 is like a pangea version of our modern map, Outworld is the map from Deception with the land masses combined.

Sea Realm🌊 is like the Polynesian islands, except the volcanoes from which their islands spawn tend to be massive shield volcanoes.

LightRealm's☄️ continent floats mostly in the sky over open water. There is a mountain range out north west of Earthrealm that you have to climb to reach its lowest floating isles. As the isles get higher up, they get further out, and bigger, until you reach the actual LightRealm mainland/continent. There are 4-7 smaller isles that lead up to it.

ChaosRealm⚔️, also known as the Anarchy Region, is distant from the Earthrealm/Outworld landmass and stationed right on the curve of the globe. Before the times of anarchy, the lands were referred to as Ra's Eye, because its position leaves it in near permanent sunlight. Its shape is as depicted by the Deception map.

Seido ⚙️is a broad flat slab, of raised land in the middle of the ocean, located right on the equator. It always has exactly 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night. It also maintains its Deception map format.

Otherrealm, Alterrealm, and Dreamrealm hold no specific physical location or landscape.

💚🐍💀🔥 History.

🌍Earthrealm's history is a very prosperous, well-rounded one. All the continents as we know them are much closer together. There have been many civil wars etc, with everything being so close but it has settled nicely. A multitude of different cultural provinces sprung up according to magical specialties, as with everywhere else. They are home to the Technomagical convergence. Quite a few of the people who wanted to create Seido came from here.

☄️Lightrealm was connected to Earthrealm ages ago, but through some unknown force either natural or magical, the connecting land was destroyed. It is well known that they prefer their privacy and the magic that keeps it in the sky is completely undisclosed and hidden to the masses. Maintained by their oligarchy, the magicians there are bred to live posh, soft lives so that their magic can flourish without any one class of people becoming overwhelmed. They are vacation and relaxation capital of the world and their floating isles have untold luxuries.

☄️Generations ago, Arnyek was located atop the plateau where Seido currently is. The landmass was even bigger, having rolling hills with impressive Kytinn hives. However, after becoming over-populated and attempting to wage war with the Dragon Kingdom of Outworld, the wrath of Great Dragon King Onaga I was provoked. In his fury and a final hail mary to end a war that spanned 3 decades, he summoned all the strength of his life force and struck the landmass with a meteor. Due to the sheer size and power of the meteor Arnyek was leveled and over half was sunken and swallowed by the sea. The Kytinn as a whole were eradicated with the exception of the few who escaped scattering across the globe. All that was left of Arnyek was a barren crescent shape on the ocean. The leading practical magicians and tech moguls of the world came together to use the 'Sea Crescent' as a jumping off point to build the man-made Gear of Seido.

🌊SeaRealm's people are known as some of the oldest living species other than the Dragons and the Edenians. They also have the most vast population. No republic, political entity, or warmonger in any recently recorded history has ever attempted to wage war with or steal their resources. Not only do they keep all water sources across the world in balance, but they also do not sink any sailing or submerged vessels *by choice*. They've always lived a pacifist lifestyle, though there was a single ambiguous incident in the past; An ancient Outworld leader that predates even the first Dragon King took a fleet of 1,000 of his largest vessels with the hopes of plundering the treasures known to be hidden in SeaRealm. Every single one vanished without a trace. The name of the King and his vessels was lost to history, but his stupidity was not. SeaRealm didn't even acknowledge *whatever* happened and never discontinued trade or penalized anyone Outworld. That perhaps, told the world all they needed to know.

⚔️The Anarchy Region, aka ChaosRealm is in a permanent power struggle and civil war. The original Sun Kingdom once lived peacefully and was home to the Osh-Tekk, the Centaurians, the Tarkatans, and the Shokan. Things were thrown into turmoil when insurgents between the four groups began levying for power. As the war worsened, those residents who weren't willing to die for a cause that they had no say in, relocated to Outworld as refugees.

👑Outworld Republic is run by the monarchs of several royal families. They have had a peace covenant that served to keep up the highly lucrative trading agreements in place. They were once similar to ChaosRealm in that their nations lived in permanent turmoil, but due to the rise and reign of Great Dragon King Onaga I, a campaign for peace was enforced instead. Dragon King Onaga I is referred to as 'The Great', because he is the diplomat who spoke to all of Outworld's leaders to initiate peace. His generations have since continued to help maintain peace as respected leaders of the Dragon Nation.

💚🐍💀🔥 Demographics.

🌍Earthrealm: 60% Human, 40% Other. Species come from across the globe to learn about Technology. They have more Kytinn refugees than any other location. Fluctuating population, favoring slow increase.

👑Outworld Republic: Is just a blanket term for the multiple harmonious societies that reside there.

Edenians, Vampires, Naknadan, Osh-Tekk, Tarkatan, Shokan, Dragons, Centaurians, and Saurians all live in multi-cultural regions. Since peace has been in effect, so has open travel. The amount of each group is hard to ascertain. There are also many mixed sub groups; Shaurkan, NaknaVamp, Tark-Oshtekk etc. They are all classed as Outworlder. Like Earthrealm, fluctuating population.

☄️LightRealm: Marriage to a native LightRealmer is mandatory for non-tourist, non-restrictive, residence here, hence the lowered percent of other. The residents of LightRealm refer to LightRealm as Apollus and themselves as Apollites (think Apollo from Greek mythology). 70% Apollite, 20% Oni, Edenian, Human, Geo-Elementals specifically, 10% Other. Stable population.

🌊SeaRealm: They are perhaps the most biodiverse group, but refer to themselves as only one name: the Amanzi. All who go with peace and love in their hearts to live and work there are considered Amanzi as well. Their actual total population is unknown, but they receive anywhere from a quarter to half a million emigrants per year. Increasing population.

⚔️ChaosRealm: Another region that has no confirmed headcount. An estimated 65% percent of the population has either left or died trying. The remaining stubborn warriors and officials are of course Centaurians, Shokan, Osh-Tekk, and Tarkatan. Declining population.

⚙️Seido: Many people work and live here, but it's more of an organized invention and manufacturing haven. Population exactly 1,000,000.

💚🐍💀🔥 Culture.

🌍🌍Earthrealm produces the least amount of magically inclined people and as a result invented technology to grow alongside magic. They have long had inventions of pure technology that leveled the playing field for non-magicals. In the last hundred years or so, people have been advancing in both and making technology that runs off of magic or combination magic and standard supplies (oil, gas, electric etc.) Moving here to learn technology as a skill or trade is gradually becoming more common place. Magical and Non-magicals alike place high value on their lineage and skills. Extremely low divorce rate, and not getting married is in general not ideal unless you are in a *Non-Marital Union. Crime is low because if you commit one, your family as a whole will bear the costs. Every single income within the immediate bloodline will be garnished. Immediate bloodline is considered parents (and their siblings, plus your own brothers and sisters. Too many crimes or too severe a crime and your family will be presented with the option to legally disassociate/disown you. If this happens, they don't have to keep paying but they will be unable to visit you in jail or prison custody once sentencing hearings are over.

👑👑Outworld is the largest and most diverse of all the continents on the planet. Its people live in an ever growing era of prosperity, maintained by the royal families that reside there. House of Dragon, House of Eden, House of Blood, and House of Saurus are the four major royal houses in their part of the world. Their capitals are named Draconus, Edenia, Vaeternus, and Zaterra. Draconus, also known as "Fruit of the Dragon" is home to Onaga X, a descendant and successor of the original Outworld ruler. Edenia is run by Argus, a deity who gave up his godhood to live among mortals and lead the people, and his wife Fire Prophetess Delia the most talented clairvoyant currently living. Vaeternus is matrilineal and run by not one queen but a unit of about 2 dozen. They communicate telepathically and run a tight ship, with the best schools for blood magic being there. Zaterra is run by a sole Queen, but she is very reclusive and only interacts through her trusted proxies. There are several other species that are governed by lower chiefs and leaders. Across Outworld, intermarrying and international travel and schooling are all greatly encouraged. Art, metal work, and craftsmanship are the most valued type of work here. Growth and prosperity, without war means that there is no poverty, low disease, and no homelessness. Wealth is pretty common, but classism and caste systems can definitely cause social conflict.

☄️☄️LightRealm, (known to inhabitants as Apollus) is very different from the other realms due to its geographic anomalies. There are hanging gardens and reverse waterfalls that are controlled by dark magic. Although, known as LightRealm to non-natives, the people of Apollus teach the importance of balance through light and dark magic. It got its name because light magic is its most visible trait, but the mechanics of dark magics such as gravity and atmospheric magic makes it possible for them to live their lives. They prioritize decadence and encourage community sharing responsibilities. That's how everything is maintained; they all live in clusters of farms and clean up together, which makes it easier. Food, water, clothing, and shelter are all free for natives but the tourist locations are extremely costly. They want to keep war and conflict out of their lifestyle, which means to them, limiting how many non-natives can come and live and make decisions as part of their community units. Leisure, such as massages, bath houses, and fine dining are a norm and are the highest paying professions when performed for those foreign to the land. Communal though they may be, when it comes to outsiders they are very guarded. It's not easy to marry into a LightRealm family, which is required for citizenship. It's not frowned upon, but there will be a lot of people to answer to; As they are community driven they don't take kindly to outsiders trying to push into their lifestyles and governing body, especially when marriage is used to do so. If you should violate a LightRealm marriage covenant you could full well be exiled and denied further access to the entire land. With that said, they have no such involvement in the affairs of long-term residents and expats who are from elsewhere.

🌊🌊Most pure-blood SeaRealmers are semi-aquatic and spend a great deal of time under the water, whereas those who are mixed with land faring species populate the coasts and low-lying lands only. Should a volcanic eruption begin to pose a threat, the demi-god Blaze can quell the volcano and keep the people safe. They revere him there, for both the life giving essence and destructive power of the volcano. Any and everyone is welcome and as a result they have the fast growing population anywhere. Because of their peaceful stance on all issues and their water cleaning and waste management initiatives, they are allowed free residence in all parts of the world, even ChaoRealm before it plunged into perpetual war.

⚔️⚔️The Anarchy Region has no culture. A bloody war of who is the strongest of the four legendary warrior species (and a few forgotten sub-species) is all that takes place. Before, When it was the Sun Kingdom, they all grew and ate drought tolerant plants, hunted in the wastelands, and worshipped in the mountains. The presence of a tropical jungles around the coasts provided biodiversity in fruit, veggies, and a fast-multiplying invasive hog species that served as an excellent protein source that prevented over-fishing. The only thing known about the insurgent groups that sprung up, is that they feel that only the strong deserve to rule and hosted/encouraged underground tournaments in which people fought to the death like in the Old Days.

⚙️⚙️The Gear of Seido, aka Orderrealm is a giant techlab that hosts engineers and mathematicians who are dedicated to solving major world mysteries and creating products that enhance people's lives. The finest minds in the world both live and work here, and it is NOT easy to get in. Certain colleges pay for tours and internships here year round but even that doesn't guarantee entry. The entire population is split evenly for each demographic; sex, species, age group, and education level etc. Everyone literally gets the exact same housing and access to resources.
