Text
More than 300 Quebec farmers drove their tractors through the streets of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Friday to send a message to the provincial government, saying they are facing an existential crisis.
They say their costs have ballooned and it's becoming impossible to make a living.
Their message was simple: no farmers, no food, no future.
"We already have people going bankrupt. We already have people shutting down, doing something else. A lot of farmers already have to work almost part-time, if not full-time, outside the farm to be able to make ends meet," said Stephanie Levasseur, vice-president of the Union des producteurs agricoles, Quebec farmers' union. [...]

"City Withdraws Loitering Charge," Montreal Star. August 3, 1943. Page 3. --- A charge of loitering by night was withdrawn this morning in the Recorder's Court before Recorder McManamy, when Rene Lasnier, Herve Lasnier, Wayne Humphries and Vincent Piccoli appeared for trial with their counsel, Norman Saylor and Yvon Sabourin, K.C.
The four, all members of the Air Training Service, appeared last week after having been arrested on a charge of loitering, by the night patrol. The young men had at the time just arrived in the city from St. Johns, Que., and were looking for a place to eat when arrested. They pleaded not guilty on their first appearance, and the charge was withdrawn by the City this morning on the explanation that the police had exceeded their authority.

  WHAT IS WOOD VINEGAR?
Wood vinegar, Pyroligneous acid, also called  wood acid, is a dark liquid produced by the destructive distillation of wood and other plant materials. The principal components of wood vinegar are acetic acid, acetone and methanol. It was once used as a commercial source for acetic acid. In addition, the vinegar often contains 80-90% water along with some 200 organic compounds.
Wood vinegar is a byproduct from charcoal production. It is a liquid generated from the gas and combustion of fresh wood burning in airless condition. When the gas is cooled, it condenses into liquid. Raw wood vinegar has more than 200 chemicals, such as acetic acid, formaldehyde, ethyl-valerate, methanol, tar, etc. Wood vinegar improves soil quality, eliminates pests and controls plant growth, but is slightly toxic to fish and very toxic to plants if too much is applied. It accelerates the growth of roots, stems, tubers, leaves, flowers, and fruit. In certain cases, it may hold back plant growth if the wood vinegar is applied at different volumes. A study shows that after applying wood vinegar in an orchard, fruit trees produce increased amounts of fruit. Wood vinegar is safe to living matters in the food chain, especially, insects that help pollinate plants.
 HOW WOOD VINEGAR IS MADE
Organic biomass material is heated in an oxygen reduced environment leading to the thermal decomposition of materials and release of gases (called pyrolysis) – this exhaust smoke is condensed (cooled) into a liquid. The condensate then further separates and refined into Tar, Wood Vinegar and Bio-Oil. Production equipment can vary from basic metal drums or in ground fire pits covered in clay mud with cooled bamboo chimneys to state of the art industrial processors that are completely controlled continuous biomass converters.
WOOD VINEGAR : DIFFERENT APPLICATION OF WOOD VINEGAR
Blend with water in a ratio of 1:50 (1 liter wood vinegar and 50 liters water), or up to a ratio of 1:800 (1 liter wood vinegar and 800 liters water). Spray it over plant shoots. Wood vinegar, like hormones, will be absorbed into twigs, trunks, or leaves. Plants will be stronger, and leaves will be greener and resistant to pests and diseases.
WOOD VINEGAR: BENEFITS OF WOOD VINEGAR
 1. Farmers can produce wood vinegar from branches trimmed from trees.
2. Wood vinegar is safe to human beings, animals, plants, and environment.
3. Wood vinegar helps plants to grow better and stronger, and be resistant to pests and diseases.
4. Crop produce is high quality and safe.
5. Low cost of production attributed to savings from cost of chemicals.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT WOOD VINEGAR:
What is Wood Vinegar?
Wood vinegar has a wide range of applications, and it can be everything from a bio-fertilizer, to a seed germinator, to a growth enhancer, to a nematode treatment, and more. Wood vinegar is a light brownish liquid that is produced through the natural act of carbonization.  Wood vinegar has a low pH (around 3) and contains a variety of organic compounds, which include: organic acetic acids, phenols, alcohols, aldehydes, ester, acetals, ketone, formic acid, vitamin B1, B2, levorotatory dextran, and many others. These various elements can work synergistically for a greater outcome.
Wood vinegar has a long history of successful use throughout Asia as an organic growth booster and bio-fertilizer substitute in place of expensive fossil-derived agriculture chemicals.
There’s even evidence of successful use dating back thousands of years in the Amazon and even during the 1900s, when substantial factories saw a huge boost in commercial growth as they produced wood vinegar with creosote as a source of acetic acid. Buy Wood Vinegar
How does Wood Vinegar Work?
Wood vinegar reduces the cluster value of water to 1/3.  This means that the water is activated and can be easily absorbed by the plants, because water with a low cluster value is in a very small mass, which increases the penetration rate. Each of these masses will hold one or few mineral elements, and these elements can be easily taken into the crops.  This will greatly reduce the use of agrochemicals; however, the solution should not be used with alkaline chemicals. Order Wood Vinegar!
Has this product been tested?
Wood vinegar has been used by people for agricultural purposes for reportedly a thousand years, give or take.  It’s a product in use today by many countries like Japan and India, and it’s beginning to see more study and distribution in the United States and Canada.

Leonard Cohen letter to Marianne Ihlen, Saint Jean-sur-Richelieu, 26 June 1961
Leonard Cohen met Marianne Ihlen on the Greek island of Hydra in 1960. The pair shared a long and chaotic romance that inspired a catalogue of Cohen songs — like So Long Marianne, Bird on the Wire, and Hey, That’s No Way to Say Goodbye — and left behind a legacy of over 50 love letters.
Cohen admits that although it’s been a year since they last saw each other, he is unable to move on — and is departing Hydra the next day to see her in Norway. He writes, ‘I must see again what happens to us when we are together, perhaps it will be nothing, perhaps everything. Anyhow, we shall see and speak and touch and if it is nothing we shall say so. If it is nothing I’ll get on with my life and you with yours and all we’ll keep of one another will be a few months of sun and a long journey north. At least we will be able to say goodbye, something we have never managed.’
He wouldn’t manage that goodbye until the very end of their lives, when he heard that she was dying and wrote her a final letter in 2016. It ended, ‘You know that I’ve always loved you for your beauty and your wisdom, but I don’t need to say anything more about that because you know all about that. But now, I just want to wish you a very good journey. Goodbye old friend. Endless love, see you down the road.’

Automne 1914, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Canada (11/22)

"Official to Probe Seigniorial Tithes," Montreal Star. July 26, 1943. Page 3. --- The Seigniorial Tithes Commission, under the chairmanship of Hon. T. D. Bouchard, Minister of Roads, at a sitting this morning at the government offices, named a special commissioner to investigate difficulties in the parish of St. Jean l'Evangeliste, county of St. Johns, regarding the "terrier" or land register, concerned with the abolition of tithes. Lucien Morin will investigate complaints and report to the commission.
This municipality is one of the few, according to the commission, where difficulties have arisen as regards the limits of the properties on which tithes were being paid.

Elistair and Rheinmetall Canada Partner on Unmanned Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance Solution
Elistair, a leader in long-endurance, tethered unmanned aircraft systems, has partnered with Rheinmetall Canada Inc. to provide military customers with an on-the-move Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) solution that combines Elistair’s fully automated KHRONOS tethered drone with the Mission Master family of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). The new partnership follows closely on the heels of a successful demonstration of the KHRONOS and the Mission Master SP, an electric-powered UGV designed for resupply missions, overwatch, and payload carriage, before undisclosed European military officials at Rheinmetall Canada’s test track in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Québec.

Automne 1914, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Canada (20/22)
[Transcription] Odin Delacroix : LeBris, 12 minutes 15. Arthur Rumédier : Zéphir, 12 minutes 19. C’est bien, mon garçon. Odin Delacroix : Simmon, 12 minutes 21.
