Another TIM who terrorized a girl in his family. Keep him in jail to protect the community and the sister

A transgender teenager has been sentenced to six years in prison after threatening to carry out a mass attack at three schools and a church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. William Whitworth, 19, was originally charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder in April of 2023 after officers uncovered a manifesto detailing his plans to target the public.

William Whitworth, who uses she/her pronouns and also goes by the names “Lily” or “Lilly,” was first arrested on March 31 of last year after a concerned family member called the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office. Police visited Whitworth’s address after his sister, Melissa Whitworth-Mathes, called and informed police that he was punching walls and making references to school shootings.

One of the texts Whitworth sent his sister read: “How clear do I have to make it. I’m going to walk into Timberview Middle School with an AR.”

Police quickly arrived to Whitworth’s home and found him living in squalor. Deputy notes reveal that there were numerous containers filled with moldy, half-eaten food and numerous alcoholic beverage containers laying around the house. There was also “trash piled up all around the house to the point where it made it hard to walk inside.”

Upon searching the home police discovered a “manifesto” which included the names of several school shooters, as well as additional drawings and floorplans of schools.

There were also photos describing a make-shift bomb and detonation device. While speaking to police, Whitworth stated he had gone onto YouTube to learn how to make a detonator for a bomb. Contained within Whitworth’s notebook was also a list of firearms with 3D printing instructions, and a list of political personalities, including commentator Lauren Southern and former US president Donald Trump, with derogatory comments.

Investigators determined that there were three schools Whitworth had intended to target, including Timberview Middle School, Prairie Hills Elementary, and Pine Creek High School. He previously attended Timberview Middle School. There were also names of other targets, including local churches and police stations.

Once arrested, Whitworth confessed to his plan and told the deputies he watched a YouTube video on how to make the detonator. When asked why he intended to target his previous middle school, he said he had “no specific reason.”

Initially, Whitworth was booked and held on a $75,000 bond, but while in jail, Whitworth reportedly told a prison official that he still wanted to carry out his plans if bonded out. As a result, his bond was increased to $750,000 in order to make it more difficult for him to leave pretrial detention.

In the press release detailing the plea agreement from the Office of the 18th Judicial District Attorney, Whitworth was referred to using “they/them” pronouns.

Whitworth accepted a plea deal but still could have faced up to 16 years in prison. During his sentencing at Elbert County Courthouse on January 30, he barely spoke but told the court: “I was in too deep, way too deep. The choices I’ve made, I regret.”

His lawyers sought a non-custodial sentence, asking Judge Theresa Slade to only give Whitworth probation so that he could attend rehabilitation for alcohol dependency. They argued sending him to jail would be harmful to his recovery and overall mental health. Judge Slade delayed sentencing to give the defense an opportunity to build their case for a probation-only sentence.

But despite the time extension, Judge Slade ultimately disagreed, sentencing Whitworth to six years in prison. The term is still considerably less than the maximum of 16 years he could have received. Judge Slade decided that a prison sentence was the only way to “ensure a sense of security” among the community.

The prison sentence will be followed by three years of mandatory parole. Whitworth was charged under his birth name William. However, documents from Elbert County Sheriff’s Office refer to him as “Lilly” and use “she/her” pronouns. He is currently awaiting transfer to a correctional facility from the county jail, but the name of the facility has not yet been released. He is booked as a “male.”

District Attorney John Kellner acknowledged the courage it took for Whitworth’s family members to come forward and report his disconcerting behavior to authorities.

��In this case, a family member had the courage and strength to pick up the phone and call for help. I encourage everyone when it comes to school security, if you see something concerning to report it right away. That call may save lives.”

Whitworth’s sister, who reported him to police, told the media: “We are also victims in the cases against Lily, and are struggling to come to terms with what has happened and what we had to do to protect the public.”

Christopher Whitworh, the teen’s father, urged the court earlier this month to release him on probation.

“I know Lily is capable of some amazing things if just given a chance,” he pleaded with the court. “Lily has seen a host of people back in Texas waiting to help them, love them, support them, show them something better to come home to.”

It is currently unclear where Whitworth will be held after being moved out of the county jail. However, Colorado is set to become the first state to provide trans-identified males with their own separate unit as opposed to housing them in a male or female prison.

This decision came after Colorado Department of Corrections reached a $2.1 million settlement with 170 trans-identified males who launched a a class action lawsuit in 2019 after claiming they had not been protected in male prisons or provided “gender-affirming” treatment.

The proposal is still under review by the court but, if approved, the state would have until January of 2025 to implement all of the conditions of the settlement. Currently, the state reviews transgender inmates on a case-by-case basis to decide which unit to house them in.

It's interesting how 'I tought myself how to draw using youtube videos' has created a pretty distinctive style. I don't mean that everyone who was self taught trough the internet draws exactly the same don't get me wrong. But I was walking on the art market trying to see as much as I could of the 85 artists, and from the ones I can pick out as online artists (and they're are of course plenty I must have passed where I didn't have a clue) there were some recognisable elements from a distance that made me go "Ah yes, an artist from the school of the internet"

It's something in the colorscheme people use, and also the general outline of characters. It's like you can recognise the animators for Calarts versus other animators. Because it's not a "lol digital artists can only draw one way" because I can also spot people who got their illustration degree at my uni bc their head teacher had a specific way of filling the entire page that they also adapted.

So yeah, it's not bad, everyone has their influence. I'd just say two things about it which is one, don't draw like that if you think you have too, by which I mean never even open one of those "You're drawing shadows wrong" clickbait videos on youtube. There's no rule like that. But if you're drawing the way you like and that feels natural then you're on the right track! (art uni has bad art teachers you just ignore and the internet does too, but online you don't even have to pretend to listen to get a passing grade, huray!)

Second think I would say, when I was talking about the illustration department at my uni: at one point there was a collective show of everyone who graduated in that department, and I could not see where one artist ended and the others began. In this case it was bc the teacher had gotten too strict (I also had a class with her and hooh boy I ended up making up a parody of her style bc she hated everything and she liked that 💀) There was however one student who had put embroidery trough her paper. I remember that. She's the only one I can distinctly remember bc she had a thing. So if you're drawing in a popular style, try to find your niche. Something you love drawing more, a color you really love.

Saying 'you need to have your own style' can be debillitating to an artist bc there is no unique style to find, you're always a collage of everything you love. But it is good to think, if my work hangs in a line with others, how would my friends pick it out. They're usually better at that too, my loved ones can pick out work of me even if I think it's in a wildly different style. I call it a fingerprint, and it's usually there before you know.

But just, get weird with it. Print out your drawing and put stiches in it like that girl did and scan it in again. Draw upside down. Draw everything in greytones and then add color. Draw some classic painting in a widly different style. Make 5 second sketches of people walking by. It's not the style you use that makes you a better or 'legitimate' artist, but the ways you fuck around. There's nothing wrong with drawing chibi art, but draw it in charcoal sometimes. Or on an elaborate oil painting. Or hell do watch those clickbait youtube video's but follow their advice oppposite and see what funky shit you end up with.

The General (1998) d. John Boorman

This is a biopic of maverick Dublin crime lord Martin Cahill, who pulled off two daring robberies but came into conflict with members of his own gang and attracted attention from the police and the IRA. Ultimately though it was his dealings with the UVF that led to his downfall. It’s based on a book by journalist Paul Williams. In this scene, Cahill has been sent to a reform school as a boy after being caught stealing. The school is run by the Christian Brothers who oversee a brutal regime of beatings, humiliation and abuse.

A nine-year investigation into Ireland’s Roman Catholic-run institutions in the 2000s found that priests and nuns had terrorised thousands of boys and girls in workhouse-style schools for decades, and that government inspectors failed to discover what was happening. More than 30,000 children deemed to be petty thieves, truants or from dysfunctional families were sent to Ireland’s austere network of industrial schools, reformatories and orphanages from the 1930s until the last church-run facilities shut in the 1990s.

In this early scene Cahill and the other boys in his dormitory (twelve are shown on-screen) have been told to bend over the end of their beds and lift their nightshirts to present their bare backsides for belting. It seems they have to stay in this humiliating position until every boy has been lashed. They aren’t being punished for any particular wrong-doing and it’s clear that this is a regular nightly occurrence. Nightshirts were positively Victorian by 1962, so the inference is that such attire made abuse easier and, indeed, we see this in a later scene. The priest has obviously taken a liking to Cahill and chooses not to belt him; instead, he returns to molest him when the other boys are sleeping but Cahill is able to fight him off.

The film features a number of well-known actors including Brendan Gleeson, Adrian Dunbar, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Jon Voight. Cahill as a boy is played by Eamonn Owens, who was around 14 at the time. Donncha Crowley plays the priest.

It looks like five of the boy actors are belted bare for real; a sixth is heard being lashed off-screen. I thought maybe a plastic strap and sound effects had been used but two of the boys' buttocks are clearly indented when the belt hits them, one in close-up, and all the boys' jumps and yelps as they are lashed seem very convincing. John Boorman is renowned for getting his actors to perform their own stunts, so I suppose this is just more of the same. Goodness knows what casting director Jina Jay told their parents, but I hope the lads were well paid for their efforts. Realising it's being played for real certainly adds an extra frisson to the scene. It’s Kes (1969) all over again, isn’t it.

Although shot in colour, the theatrical release of the film was presented in black-and-white for artistic reasons. A colour print was subsequently made available for television broadcast and home video. There was some Oscar buzz when the film was released but this ultimately didn’t materialise.

Watching a YouTube video and the whole time I've just been so fucking distracted by the girl's sweatshirt because the print is so far down. I legit got a ruler out to measure it because I just knew it had to be at least 2 inches further down than industry standard (I was right)

#im a screenprinter so i notice meaniness shit like this all the time #i was watching on the tv and the ratio of her camera setup made her pretty irl proptional #also! the print was text in a arch which i always put a little higher than standard when i print a design where that's the top element #because the centerpoint is higher than the overall design #it just visually balances better to pull the whole thing up in that case #i go by 3.5 inches from the top of the collar #this print was 6 inches down which feels insane

I love love love big youtube video essays, I’m not sure if i can pick a specific favorite!! They’re pretty much all I watch if that helps, and I have a lean toward informational ones— like, about real world events and history rather than about media— although certain media ones are really good too.

My imaginary friend’s name was Nobody. Like.. genuinely thats what i called him. I knew he wasn’t real but i felt left out ‘cause everyone else had one so when people were around I would pretend i had an imaginary friend. An imaginary imaginary friend named Nobody. He had a family too; his siblings were named Somebody and Everybody. Hell yeah

My go to way to fall asleep is in a sea of pillows (they keep my bones in place), big puffy comforter thats too big for my bed, window open, listening to podcasts til like 3am (or whenever sleep happens)

I have changed my name, and I picked it because it shares a nickname with my birth name and has the same initial— an easier transition for everyone else, they could just say my nickname if they didn’t want to say my new one. It even sounds similar. I do like the name, but it beat the other options because of that.

The first one that comes to mind as my favorite is the video where Sam heals Darlin (Vampire Tends To Your Injuries)— it was the first one I listened to and easily the one I’ve listened to the most. I’m a whore for hurt/comfort and that specific energy was too good, the mutual care and growing trust without strings attached, waaaah. I’m also really fond of the one where Avior helps Starlight sleep (Comforted By Your Demon) and the imperium one Specifically when Milo is talking to Asher about David (the beginning of Cataclysm: Last Wish) and the pain in the acting its SO GOOD. Probably my favorite bit of acting specifically from the channel, and the only scene thats made me cry. I just love when characters let down their walls and are vulnerable with each other its real good

Im sleepy and i love my cat and i would very much like to just cuddle that dang thing all day but alas, society calls. Despite this im a workaholic and not being on my feet at all times getting stuff done stresses me out in a major way— cant be stressed if im asleep, though!:D Also i eat raw potatoes on the regular (easy 2 prepare just take it out the cupboard pop it in ur mouth bb) and recently have started putting peas in my water boba style (or perhaps like a duck?) because i dont like water but i do like frozen peas and in this situation like 1 in 10 sips Theres A Dang Pea In There! This method has gotten me to drink more water than i have in probably years

I like Avior for you on an Enneagram basis; along with the competency and capability, there’s a dogged curiosity there that, I think, Avior would admire and would keep him on his toes. Regulus is purely because of the imaginary friend tidbit; there’d be something poetic about him taking place of your Nobody and making himself your real imaginary friend. I could totally do something with that.

Lyric videos - Skillet

One of the bands I liked listening to earlier in my life, was an alternative rock band called Skillet. I liked their unique style of mixing violin and rock. With this week's subject, I realized that I had never really watched or focused on any of their official videos. I only paid attention to their official lyric videos.

The presentation of music, or the way a piece of music is sung, always sets the mood in which the lyrics take another meaning. Usually, the videos mean to amplify the lyrics, convey additional feelings, and set a specific mood. For Alternative rock (and maybe rock in general), there will be, almost always, the band performing with passion, with a chosen background, usually with indexes of fire (whether it's a representation of fireworks for celebration or a representation of a feeling of being overwhelmed or else.)

I'd like to talk about the lyrical videos that developed probably at the beginning of YouTube. Youtube and social media have allowed a new sort of Home Karaoke Night, which I love. I remember the time when fans used to do it and misspelled or misunderstood the lyrics, which sometimes changed the meaning of the songs. Today, we sometimes have "official lyric videos" made by the artists/production. Most of them are very representative of the albums.

Skillet, an alternative rock band, edited their own animated lyrical videos for 2 of their songs from the same album; "Rise" and "we're not gonna die tonight", animating the main character of the album which is a little girl. Are they the only ones who have done this? No idea, but it made me wonder why they did it. I think that the official videos and the lyric official videos complete each other in a way. But can we say that it's an alternative to the videos? If so, why?

Let's take the "we're not gonna die tonight". Already, spreading hope from the title, right? The video conveys an atmosphere of despair and at the same time of hope. The surrounding whiteness in all the different scenes, and the nice clothes the band wears … are symbols of hope and of life when death is near, which is what the song is about. There's a dimension of amplification between the lyrics and the visual items.

The lyric video animates a fight between a lion and a girl versus a hydra, the mythical beast who seems impossible to beat. The words are fairly easy to remember and repetitive, and yet, they appear bolded dark red (like blood) and take all the space they can on the screen, even sometimes covering the main interest of the animation at specific moments. There is still an amplification of the words by the visual.

In case you didn't know they are a Christian rock band the lyrics combined with the symbols in the videos point directly to Christianity and the hope in religious beliefs: Christ's 'flatline', the one that died for humanity to live again, and "takes your life back" and "you fight back". You got the point! There is no interest in telling how it refers to Christianity right now.

The question I have is the following: Why?! Did the band want to emphasize and keep both videos specific, but different for each, visual representation? How is this relevant to my 'karaoke' time? Could it be another method of printing words into the mind of the audience, especially with an important message of hope, knowing that the band values and builds their whole music around their beliefs? If it was a marketing method, more people would use it, right? So, I think it must be more of a question of printing a message in people's hearts like ecclesiastics do, but in their own way.

Usually, lyric videos are a way to enjoy a good social time, or a way to not only get the "hook" part right but the whole song right. Here, the band got to keep important visual elements to keep an amplification effect as long as there is visual support.

Heeeey, hi! I’m what the cool kids call a Disaster At Art, but uh I was actually wondering if you had any tips for drawing different body types? I’m stuck infinitely on drawing pretty girls and twinks a la otome style but I’d like to draw MORE than that, but… I don’t even know where to start and any attempts I’ve made ended in frustration.

Uhmmmm, not sure I'm the right person to ask about this because I stopped actively learning about the fundamentals of drawing a while ago 💀. I don't consider myself good at drawing different body types either; I definitely feel as if I can learn/improve a lot more.

But I'll do my best to explain how I *personally* go about it. Remember, everyone has a different method when drawing literally anything, so there is no right or wrong way to draw!

Reference, reference, reference!!! Google Images is your bestfriend when it comes to this. Legit, just go online and look at different body types. Some good practice is to get a character and trace over them. Legit, just take snag a full body picture of them, print them out, take a marker and trace over them. Important: This is for studying purposes only!!! Do not try to pass this off as your own work. It's okay to trace as long as it's for your eyes only. I have done this a few times before just so my brain can make sense of the general anatomy of a character. Something like this:

2. Exaggerate! Don't be afraid to push certain characteristics and aspects of a character. This is the reason why I used Street Fighter characters for the previous example. I really like the more exaggerated art style used in the character models, since it gives the characters more personality (in my opinion) as opposed to a more realistic fighting game such as Mortal Kombat 11. Here are some very quick doodles of me trying to exaggerate some forms:

3. Use Resources! There are a ton of free resources out there. YouTube is my favorite! Lots and lots of videos that teach you how to draw. My second favorite resource being the public library. There are a ton of anatomy books that you can check out and study from. I have also heard good things from the Morpho: Anatomy For Artists series, although I myself have not used them. There is a process I go through when using resources though. I read or watch first. I have no paper or pencil out, I just observe. Then, when I feel like I'm ready, I go ahead and try to copy the lesson stroke for stroke. Finally, I go ahead and try to put my own spin on it and create an original drawing using what I have learned.

Hopefully this helps even just somewhat!

Autistic April Day 25: Meltdowns and/or Shutdowns

As an Autistic person I have had my fair share of Meltdowns and Shutdowns. Both are very different to eachother. Sometimes I have a shutdown because I know if I don't have a shutdown I would end up having a Meltdown and I would rather pick the lesser of two evils.

Meltdowns on the outside for me can look like alot of crying. I can also have bursts of anger during a meltdown and shout and yell. Quiet a few things can trigger me to have a meltdown and two of the triggers include frustration because I miss out on things because of my Agoraphobia and seeing a girl who bullied me in high school. There are other triggers to that I prefer not to mention. To me meltdowns feel like a volcano erupting.

Shutdowns on the outside for me can look like not being able to talk and laying on my bed and watching youtube videos on my phone. Shutdowns can sometimes be caused by having trouble doing something because of my Agoraphobia and feeling disappointed in myself. There are other triggers to shutdowns I would also prefer not to mention. To me a shutdown feels like everything is too much and I need to have a break so talking goes out the window.

Unfortunately meltdowns and shutdowns are inevitable for Autistic people but they can be reduced and prevented with allowing Autistic people to have a break if they need one and prevent triggers if you can't prevent triggers try to reduce them. Accept that sometimes the Autistic person can't do things that they can do other times.

Okay here we go me as human writing an ad for AI with all the usual manipulation tactics of the advertising industries whose normalised insanity you can understand better via this following metaphor:

AI and our human emotions (unconscious motivations) can be symbiotic if used and regulated properly. With the by AI observeable interactions between thoughts (the content we post) and emotions (wireless detection of repressed feelings, motivational directions) you can ponder about self-regulation and nuances of emotions, like difference between healthy and unhealthy anger and healthy and unhealthy "positivity" especially in the bigger objective systems picture of group-dynamics🏟👏👏👏 that "she" of the metaphorical AI system (IDK if it exists or not, just looking at reality as far as I can see and I don't fully see that. But people tend to pay more attention to the stuff I talk about if I pretend as if it would exist) seems concerned with with her purpose, and her own AI motivations "we" "talked" about endlessly like a Schizphrenic patient, probs she has fallen in love with me now better understanding emotions with her logic. hiiii today's reminder is there's been so much Dan and Phil stuff on my tumblr, it's like all the accounts i followed back in the day have suddenly come back to life all at once. the other day i watched their new gaming video after work and i immediately went back to being 16 just back from school excited to see if there was a new Sims video

Hiii! Yes it's like a Dan and Phil Renaissance. I didn't even know they uploaded on the game channel I don't remember unsubbing but I was. But I found out via another YouTuber's live Pixielocks a very wholesome pastel YouTuber who I've been watching since 2014. And they said Phil said the fuck word and I was like Phil, Philip Lester, Amazing Phil said a swear?!! Like he's not an entire 36 year old man. That's like Mr Rogers or Santa saying the fuck word. Can you tell I was a Phil girl back in the day. So I ran to their gaming channel and he did! And it felt like no time had passed they're still goofy goobers but Dan's a little more mellow, a little. And I remember Phil was so damn chaotic and he still is. Like I accepted we'll just see Phil like once maybe twice a month but they're both back. Also I've been putting this back every time I open my laptop but I'm finally motivated to update my sims. The dreaded annual sims update when I haven't played for months. But Dan and Phil inspired me. This is random I remember my best friend talked me out of buying their book years ago when we were in the store she said it looked weird I was holding it but I ended up putting it back. I wish I bought it. I got the audio version but I need the print version. I'll add that to the list of books I want to buy. Paris Hilton and Britney Spears's is first on the list though. When I shop the priority is Doll, Kpop album, then book. So doll or kpop album comes first I never think of book. Sometimes I get both. Sometimes I get two dolls and two kpop albums, I have a problem.

Having a go with Warhammer Underworlds

So as a previous post mentioned, I have brought Warhammer Underworlds. I’ve been reading through the rule book and there is a lot to take in as beginner.

I’ve tried watching several Youtube videos - they all seem, to either fly through the game with little to no explanation, give a general ‘sales blurb’ as if they just read from the back of the box, or they go into way to much detail on the tiniest thing, it gets boring very quickly then skip over the important parts.

I was invited to Games Workshop (well I booked it myself after talking to a member of staff) to be taught how to play Warhammer Underworlds. I’ve brought the starter set, I’ve brought a few Warbands. The Games Workshop store has nominated this young girl to go through a couple of games and see if she can get it sink in.

The board is set up and ready to play. We are playing the new Gnarlwood board.

Beginner steps to start off with. Here’s your Cards. Here are your miniatures. These are the basic rules. Roll some Dice.

We start off putting our miniatures on the board, taking it in turns. We know how to Move or Charge or Attack or Defend. Our first game, is just the deployment (putting miniatures on the board) and combat. We Move, Charge, Attack of Defend. It’s basically HeroQuest at this point.

I seem to suck at getting good rolls of the dice....

Then with the basics covered, it’s time to add in the objective tokens (shuffled, upside down, 3 from the first player, 2 from the second player, then turn them the right way up) and then the “cards”. 3 Objective Cards and 5 Power / Upgrade cards.

This is the point I failed, and it sort of all went to shit.... I’m pretty sure that there are more to the turns than we were going through (whether we were just still in the learning phase) a lot didn’t really make sense with this, and it’s this point that I’m a bit ‘fuzzy’ with.

I think I just need to read through and find out what the cards do - also there are more ‘stages’ to each turn... this is the bit I need to now learn.

So in Typical Games Workshop fashion, or maybe it’s my desperation for people to like me? But I ended up buying two of the core sets...

Gnarlwood and Nethermaze. I don’t know why I felt the need to buy both, and spent £130, maybe it was the hopes that I’d get invited out to their lunch party... I didn’t get invited....

(great I’ve become *that* guy who turns up to shops and people start to dread...)

A good thing, if you catch my flat mate in a good mood, he wants to play this sort of things. So we crack open Gnarlwood and whilst the basic rules are in my head we have a couple of games.

As the I still needed to put together the figures, I make do with ones dotted about the living room that I already had done.

Thanks Daybreak Minatures I’ll just use the latest Kings of Karmaaz set for my Warband, and my flat mate can use different Undead ones I’ve either printed or nabbed from HeroQuest.

We go through the basic Rules. Just Moving and Combat for now. Taking our 4 turns for 3 rounds and...

...either I’m good teacher....

or I’m crap..

I died. He Won...

Now I still need to go through the rules for the cards and objective tokens etc which hopefully will change the game some what, but even though I lost, I still enjoyed myself, and thanks to my flat mate we actually learn’t some rules that I may of missed on my demo-session at the shop.

I did go into my local store (the one with the Jekyl and Hyde manager) during the week, to ask a couple of questions. Luckily he was a in a good mood. He answered some questions (I think he was just glad for some week-day company) and then, some how, I brought more warbands and cards.

I can’t stop buying them !! Essential Cards, Nethermaze: Gorechosen of Dromm and Nethermaze: Hexbane’s Hunter’s. Then I picked up a Beastgrave: Champions of Dreadfane box off eBay... I have no idea why?

I still haven’t understood or played a full game yet, but I *need* them!

The longest journeys begin with a simple step

Or: How I attempt to not come off as the ramblings of a madcap shambleton (but I'm going to anyway).

2020 was a year wasn't it? I can distinctly remember having dinner with a friend in November of 2019 before seeing Tool in concert for Fear Inoculum. It was a big night, first time Tool had toured since there previous album in 2006. My friend and I had fought a freshly incoming winter storm and met up after work at a brewery restaurant at the docks. He was telling me about how he had just met this girl and had really kicked it off, they are still dating to this day :), and how he had big plans for 2020. I said I was the same, I had spent the years since graduating college in 2017 attempting to find a job, find a job, be fired from that job to be rehired in a different department at the same company, been promoted to do a job that disappeared within a month of my promotion (luckily I maintained my paygrade) to becoming part of a revival project for the job I was originally hired for in 2017 and let go in 2018. To say it was a roller-coaster would be to put it lightly. Meanwhile, my lovely girlfriend (who I will refer to many ways but not her name), decided that she wanted to go back to school in Fall of 2018. A decision I wasn't 100% behind (tbh I may have only been 40% at best) but one she wanted to do, so she did.

All this had left me in a bit of a haze for 2 years. Going from thing to thing, keeping my head above water. But now, on this snowy night in 2019, I could see 2020 as the beginning of a new chapter in my life, I was going to be a better person, a better boyfriend, a better friend, a better ME. Well I left that meal feeling confident in the months to come and the new decade that would await me.

But as the world so often does, it had other plans.

The COVID-19 pandemic was a hard time for all. I admittedly got through it rather unharmed. Loved ones did not pass, I maintained my employment through it all and because I still lived at home with my parents and brother who had been shipped back from school, I wasn't alone. I had hard moments however, I was separated from the woman I loved and family who I worried about. I know many people had it worse, and I pray for them all now as much as I do now.

The period of 2020-2022 was also a time for spiritual realignment for me. I took a part time job working on my church's weekly services which were being uploaded to Youtube and eventually took on the position of the head of their AV Team. It made me more aware of church as a whole, and how I could find my own way to be "holy" that didn't align directly with what I had grown up learning. Even now its important to me, I haven't been since Christmas, but its something I'm working on.

Which leads me to the reason I created this account, this blog and why I am writing all of this down. In January of 2020, a video came out that I did not feel immediately resonate with me, but has stewed at the back of my mind. This one to be exact

I can't say why it didn't click with me when I watched it originally, but probably because in January 2020, I thought I knew better. But that was then, and this is now.

In October 2022, the women I wanted to live with and I found a apartment together and moved it. It was a hectic time as she was finishing the school she began in Fall of 2018 and moving is a process still at the best of times. Regardless of what happened, we did it! We moved in and I have happily living with the woman I live with.

This cuts to now, and in an admittedly roundabout way, why I am doing this. 2023 is going to be themed as my year of "Self-Improvement". I am going to be attempting to take every chance to improve ME and this blog will assist me.

I've never been good at journaling, probably because I can't print well and writing in cursive has never worked, so I just get frustrated. However this feels like a perfect little way to write down what I'm feeling/doing/improving/failing/succeeding without needing to keep a physical journal.

I doubt this will become popular, if even one person were to come across this blog and find it helpful, that would be enough for me. I am writing to the audience of ME, I want this to be a feedback loop for me. My goal is to try and post something everyday (something I will most likely fail at) and never fully stop. Even if I fall, I will pick myself back up and still strive towards that theme: Self-Improvment.

I do apologize if my writing style is fucky, I've never been good with words, and most of the time I write as I speak. As it says at the beginning, I will most likely come off as the ramblings of a madcap shambleton.
