Reading Manager Responds To Supporter Protests
Reading manager Ruben Selles says that he shares the supporter’s disappointment following protests at their League One clash with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday. It’s been a turbulent few years for the Berkshire side and they were handed their second points deduction of the season last week when they were docked three points after they failed to comply with an order to deposit funds. Worryingly,…

Southampton name Russell Martin as their new manager
Relegated Southampton have named Swansea manager Russell Martin as their new manager on a three-year deal. The former Norwich defender Martin has agreed a deal at St Mary’s till 2026. So let me get this straight:
Southampton sacked Ralph Hasenhüttl
They bought in Nathan Jones (which might win Muppet Move of the Season), then sacked him after just 94 days
Then they gave the interim job to Ruben Selles who was Hasenhüttl’s understudy
Selles literally took the team back to their roots using the exact same system Hasenhüttl implemented there from day one and beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with it
Now they’re calling this man a genius and the possible hope of Southampton when all he did was use the tactics of the man they fired just a couple of months ago
And they say I don’t know football? 😂😂

Ruben Dias x Reader - A House Is Not A Home Part 7/8
This chapter makes me 😤 but it had to be written.
Tumblr media
Ruben's wife dies during childbirth along with their son. Ruben hasn't been in a relationship since. Y/N is a single mother to a four year old boy. She buys a house in the small town that Ruben lives in. The house needs alot of fixing which Ruben helps with, resulting in him slowly falling in love with Y/N. However, falling in love with Y/N makes Ruben feel like he is betraying his dead wife.
Enjoy!
A memorial for Gina was held at your house on the 25th. Katarina helped you with the food and David made sure to solve any logistics so that Ruben wouldn't have to. Alot of people in town had known Gina and most of them came to honor her memory. You had never imagined your house being this full of people. Especially people you didn't know.
"Hi."
"Hey."
You found Ruben alone on the porch, a bottle of beer in his hand. It was his third one for the day. You felt guilty for keeping count.
"Food's ready if you want to head inside?" You said.
Ruben took a slow chug of his beer. "Nah, I'm good thanks."
"I could make you a plate, bring it out here if you like?"
Ruben tilted his head to look at you, a crooked smile on his lips. "It's okay Y/N, I'm not hungry."
You nodded, but did not leave the porch. "Mind if I join you?" You didn't think he would mind anyway and prepared to sit down. As you bent your knees Ruben's arm brought you down to sit between his legs on the step below where he was sitting. He tucked you in by wrapping his arms around your body, letting you relax with your back against his chest. There was a minute of silence as the sound of nature around you took over. Birds sang in the trees above your heads and a cricket lurked somewhere in the tall grass. You found it difficult to see beyond the property. There was fog in the distance. Not even the barn could be spotted amongst the evaporating clouds.
"Do you miss her?" You asked. Perhaps the question wasn't justified in a time like this,  but you wanted Ruben to feel comfortable talking about Gina with you, somthing you knew he wasn't.
"Every day." He sighed, his chin resting on the top of your head.
"What do you miss the most about her?"
Ruben had to ponder for a moment, perhaps let the memories of his wife resurface in his mind. "Her smile." He smiled. "And her kindness. Gina always wanted the best for everyone and would go out of the way for people, expecting nothing back. It's where we differ."
You tilted your head up, letting Ruben see the frown on your face. He raised a brow as to ask 'did I say somthing wrong?'
"You helping me with the house, was that not you showing your kindness?"
He nodded. "Yes, but I had my reasons."
"What reasons?" You sat up, wanting to face him.
"Like I said Y/N, that house had been haunting me for years. I was glad to sell it to you, but I wasn't gonna let you stay in a house with no roof. Helping you clear the house after the storm was not me being kind, it was strictly business."
You wanted to argue further, ask if Ruben kissing you had been strictly business as well? However, your questions silenced within you since Ruben was probably hurting. You settled down between his legs again and let his rough hands outline the contours of your face. Behind you the front door came ajar. Both you and Ruben turned around to see David, with Johnny bouncing in his arms.
"Has any of you seen Emily? Kat says she's missing."
Ruben got up almost immediately, forcing you to do the same. "I'll check upstairs." He said.
"Alright. Johnny and myself will check the basement, but I doubt it she's down there." This left you on the porch, feeling ill willed that you had no interest in looking for Gina's sister Emily. Nevertheless you grabbed a coat from inside and stepped out again. You might as well cover some ground as to say that you participated in the search. You came as far as to the fields where the fog was as thickest. But as you stood near the fence you could see the outline of the barn, it's door swaying with the wind.
"Emily?"
Light rain had begun to fall when you reached the barn. You hurried to take cover under its high roof.
"You threw all of it away?"
You turned as a shadow swept behind you. It was Emily, wearing nothing but a black dress and a pair of gummiboots.
"My god Emily, what are you doing in here? Aren't you cold?"
Emily gave you one of her fretful glares. You had gotten quite used to them since she stepped into your house. She made it seem like everything you did was wrong or insulting, weather that would be clearing a plate from a table or hand Johnny his juice. For some reason Emily seemed to constantly judge you. Obviously disliking you.
"You threw all of it away, all of her things." Emily hissed, ignoring your question.
"What things?" Emily was older than you, but only by a couple of years. Along with Gina she had studied law in Manchester, now serving as a divorce attorney at a law firm in the city. Compared to her you felt so unacomplished with your nursing degree.
"My sister things, all of her belongs. They used to be here in this barn." She said, clearly upset not to have found them there.
"They were given to charity." You said. "It was Ruben's idea actually."
"He would never." She chuckled. "What else have you brainwashed him to do, huh?"
"Pardon?" You frowned.
"You've forced Ruben to give away all the last memories of my sister, what else have you done? Tricked him to thinking that your son could ever replace the child he lost?"
You caught yourself wanting to say something that you would regret, but quickly redeemed yourself. Just like Ruben this must be a very difficult day for Emily as well. "I know you're hurting Emily." You said, your voice low and reasonable. "But making others around you hurt too, won't make the pain go away."
"Who are you to...." Emily flinched, but you interrupted her. "Ruben hasn't done anything to deserve this." You said. "But there is nothing wrong with moving on. Surley it's what Gina would have wanted."
"What do you know?" Emily's face trembled with rage as tears slid down her cheeks. "What Gina would have wanted, Ruben and I are going to make that happen, sooner than you think."
Your eyebrows furrowed, unsure what she was indicating.
"He hasn't told you I see." Emily looked amused. "I suppose he wanted to spare the time you had left together."
"What are you talking about Emily?" You couldn't stand her fretful glare. The way Ruben described Gina, she would have been nothing like her sister.
"Gina always wanted a house in the country."
"Yes, so I have heard." Katarina and David told you this some time ago.
"But she also wanted a house in the sun. Ruben suggested his home country, Portugal. The sun there definitely shines more than it does here. All he needed to do was get rid of the house. Luckily he found you."
You were beginning to understand.
"Upon my arrival I was given the green light from the land owners in Madeira, and what would be greater than me delivering the news to Ruben personally. Turns out he and you had gotten a little too familiar during the treaty of the property. A distraction, I think he called you."
"You're lying!" You exclaimed, by now you really were pissed. Emily's uneven stans also suggested that she has had a little too much to drink to cope with her emotions. What she was saying to you couldn't possibly be the truth.
"Ask him yourself." She laughed. "Am I not telling your little friend the truth Ruben?"
You turned around as Emily's gaze was focus somewhere over your shoulder. Because of the increasing rain you hadn't heard him come up behind you. Ruben, standing in the rain, looked both guilty and innocent at the same time.
"Y/N...let me explain."
He had overheard your conversation and these were his first choice of words.
"It's true?" You frowned.
"Yes ." Emily spoke behind you, but your eyes were only on Ruben.
"Yes and no." He said. "I was planing on selling the house and use the money to build a new one in Portugal, but...."
"But?" You chuckled as it was absurd. How come he hadn't told you?
"But then I met you." He nodded. "And I couldn't decide."
"So you're still contemplating it, moving to Portugal?" You were quite stunned. Ruben's answer was slilence which was enough for you.
"Y/N, don't."
You stepped outside, the rain showering you in seconds. You turned back to the barn where Ruben stood in the doorway. Emily had shied away in the back, perhaps too difficult for her to remain standing.
"For once in my life I need someone to choose me." You said.
"Y/N, please, come inside. We can talk about this inside. " He stretched out his hand, offering it to you.
You shook your head. "There is nothing for us to talk about, I have a son Ruben and like always, I choose him. But for once...." Your voice trailed off. You thought about Johnny's father and how much this reminded you of the day you told him that you were pregnant. "For once..." You said, wiping your eyes. From rain not tears. "For once I wish someone would choose me. I was stupid to think that that someone would be you."
"Y/N, wait!" Ruben stepped out into the rain, chasing after you. He didn't chase for long, of course. Emily was left in the barn, drunk and unable to return to the house by herself. And so Ruben made a choice. He chose her.

I think it's pretty clear that the Rat Grinders didn't kill Lucy purposefully. Partly because of what we learned about how the rage kills, but mostly because I can't see Brennan making a bunch of loser 15 year olds cold-hearted killers (well...maybe Kipperlilly). They may have done so accidentally in self defense vs Lucy essentially killing herself with rage, that part remains unclear. However, I do think that the subsequent coverup has absolutely been deliberate. I think that prior to Lucy's death, the Rat Grinders were involved in trying to revive the rage god and things got out of hand. I don't think they became involved out of love for the thing itself. More likely, they have their own individual motivations that were played upon by someone else, which is why their actions seem so weird and disparate. Ruben and his sudden transition into emo fame; Kipperlilly and her bid for power in the school/revenge against the bad kids for being idk cooler than her I guess; Buddy and his clear attempts to establish his grandfather in the school to spread the word of Sol....I'm sure with more digging compelling motives for Mary Ann, Oisin and Ivy will be found. I can even see Lucy originally being for it if she thought they were a sibling of her god that had once been a benevolent force and potentially could be one again.
I think an opportunistic adult/adults who seek to bring back this god probably used the Rat Grinders, selling them a chance to have their dreams come true AND one-up their rivals by recreating one of the bad kid's primary achievements: reviving a dead god. That same person could now be threatening them with revealing their hand in Lucy's death to ensure their continued cooperation. I do think the Rat Grinders have a 'divide and conquer' approach where not all of them have the same amount or same type of information (i.e. Kipperlilly excluding Oisin from obtaining the arcano-tech), which is why some of them come off as less suspicious than the others, but I don't think any of them are innocent. It would be pretty bizarre for your party member to die in the tutorial level woods at school and have absolutely no desire to probe deeper into that. The fact that absolutely none of them have indicated they looked for Lucy after her disappearance and immediately replaced her is NOT a good look. If I had to pick a mastermind of the group who has all the information as the primary planner, my money is on Kipperlilly.
I don't have a clear suspect for the adult influence but Jace Stardiamond has come up wayy too many times in seemingly disparate instances for my comfort. I admit to a lack of motive as of now, but we also barely know anything about the guy, so I'm hoping new information will come to light. I am intrigued by the theory that Porter may be a paladin of this god, knowingly or unknowingly, but I also don't think it's necessarily automatically a bad thing. His thoughts on rage seem very...balanced? I could honestly see him being an adherent of what perhaps was the god's original aspect, rage as a warm presence and a shield, or someone who hopes to return that god to that aspect. I have a hard time seeing him as the type of mastermind that a convoluted plan like this requires, but I won't rule him out as a foot soldier. Lola Embers I've been side eyeing but if Ruben is her new darling, I can imagine him asking her to request the venue of the festival be at the Thistlesprings and that's the end of her involvement. Henry Hopclap is also not above suspicion given his relation to Ruben and the fact that the arcano-tech under the stage seemed pretty advanced (none of the Rat Grinders strike me as particularly talented artificiers capable of something like that), but I'll admit other than that I've got nothing on him.
Ultimately, while Ruben released something incredibly powerful with his ritual, it was clearly merely a first step in a longer plan. Given all the "random" rage outbursts and what we found out at the farm, I'm betting that the rituals performed so far have been to literally poison the earth, leading to everyone in the area breathing in the rage cocaine, therefore expanding this god's influence and making it easier for them to anchor themselves to the material plane. They're going to most likely recreate the ritual Bakur attempted but in the correct place, the school gym, as that is where YES! was created during prom. The real mystery right now is exactly how far are they into this plan, and is it already too late to stop it?

Good Omens Fic Rec: Fakes and Forgeries
Aziraphale, a very competent art conservator who specializes in oil paintings, spots a fake van Dyck at Michael's gallery. He is hired by interpol officer Gabriel to hunt down this forger, who had duped wealthy folks out of millions for recreations of van Dyck and Rubens paintings. They team up with Anthony Crowley, who has worked the circuit selling paintings and might have a clue on who is forging them (maybe because he's the artist they're looking for). Too bad Anthony got mixed up with Beelzebub Prince and a terrible gang that are also looking for said forger. They sold a bad painting to their boss? They want revenge.
Length: 156,464 words
AO3 Rating: Explicit / Spice Level 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Best for: Mostly Safe in Public, Slow Burn, Romance, Human AU
Triggers: None
Read it here, fic by Solimette, WaldosAkimbo
*Minor Spoilers* I have to be honest, I'm really surprised this one doesn't have more hits and that I hadn't come across it before. This is an excellent AU! In this world, Crowley is an art forger with 20 years of experience. Will his wiles finally be thwarted when Aziraphale, a highly skilled art conservator, reveals one of Crowley's latest sales to be a fake? This has it all! Slow burn, enemies to friends to lovers, sexual tension, the intimate act of cooking for each other, the mob, only one bed in the romantic safe house, lying to protect each other, a dramatic rescue!! Literally grab your snacks and settle in, this one is so much fun.
They both respect each other intellectually so much here and that's always a favorite of mine. They admire each other. It's important to me that they can impress each other with their skills and knowledge. It's quite a slow burn, but in a lovely domestic sort of way. Even though it takes them time to start a relationship, they're so intimate and gentle with each other from fairly early on. I really enjoyed both of their characterizations here. We get the basic shape of their canon without being awkwardly forced. When lines/plot reference canon it's done in a way that really flows and isn't just copy pasted in.
If you haven't read this one before I definitely hope you check it out! Great for fans of banter and wine drunk nights. Mostly safe in public, all explicit scenes are later in the story but are not marked off for skipping so that's your own journey. Good for reading in breaks, I binged it and it was an excellent choice for that.

One day there was a knock on the front door of Maggie's cottage. To everyone's surprise, it was Ruben along with his sister Silvia. Esther immediately lit up and could not contain her happiness. She threw herself at him and hugged him tightly. She could barely believe he was there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I got your letter," Ruben explained after Esther calmed down. "And then I lost my job shortly afterwards, so I decided to leave Brindleton for good and come and find you."
"I thought you hated me", said Esther.
"I could never."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Coffee and pastries were immediately set out on the small kitchen table. With a little fuss, they were seated at the table as everyone wanted to hear about the latest news from Brindleton. Ruben told them about how the failing economy had impacted them and there were no longer any jobs to be had. There had been no choice for them but to sell the house and leave. Instead, he hoped that there would be a job for him here. "I also hope to marry your daughter," he concluded, turning to Frances. “I know my prospects aren't too bright, but I would be eternally grateful if you would allow it."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Mum," said Esther in a more straightforward way. "Will you be fine with us marrying?" "Yes, of course," Frances said and gave them her permission. She didn't know if it was because they were so obviously in love or if their family just needed something to look forward to, but her heart filled when she saw them together. Why would she deny them their happiness after everything they'd been through?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Frances's approval, Ruben pulled Esther to her feet and kissed her in front of everyone - delighted to be together again and optimistic that they would nevertheless have the future they'd hoped for.

She has a professional eye. She knows that man is not popping out with a soul for A WHILE, and she’d be able to sell this for a cool likkle minute!
Anyway, bring on the Summer 🚶🏽‍♀️
maybe thats why she knew better than pulling this stunt with ruben dias because the chances of him appearing somewhere with a girl are high her plan would've failed miserably

Omg speaking of healthy habits. Imagine going to the gym with ruben 🥵
I would sell my soul for that 💁‍♀️
Just imagine being able to stare at him while he's lifting weights?! And you could stare at how his nicest flex - that would be a win
But I could totally see Ruben waking you up early and asking you if you want to go to gym with him. And who could say no to that? And then he would definitely help you with the excersices and maybe after you would go get a nice breakfast and he would buy you a coffee on your way home. That would be such a nice way to start the morning 🤭

Ruben Dias x Reader - A House Is Not A Home Part 5/8
⚠️Warning ⚠️
- car s*x
18+
Tumblr media
Ruben's wife dies during childbirth along with their son. Ruben hasn't been in a relationship since. Y/N is a single mother to a four year old boy. She buys a house in the small town that Ruben lives in. The house needs alot of fixing which Ruben helps with, resulting in him slowly falling in love with Y/N. However, falling in love with Y/N makes Ruben feel like he is betraying his dead wife.
Enjoy!
"There she is! I see her! Mommy, mommy!"
You were standing by the town square waiting for the bus. As it pulled up to the station your son, Johnny,  spilled out and made a run towards you.
"My baby!"
He ambushed you with a hug and you gladly picked him up and twirled him around.
"Mommy, look what gammy got me."
Your son showed you a little toy car, not bigger than the size of his palm.
"That's for letting me yank out that old tooth of his." Your mother said, as her bad hip had her limping towards you.
"You lost a tooth?" You gasped.
Johnny nodded excitedly.
"Show me."
He displayed his little baby teeth and indeed one was missing.
"Isn't it to early for him to lose teeth?" You asked.
"How can you blame him." Your mother exclaimed. "The stress of moving across the country. He'll be toothless by the time he starts the first grade."
You rolled your eyes, ignoring your mother. She had always been very vocal about you buying a house so far away from home, in the country at that. You had been raised in the city and that's where your mother meant you belong. You suspected that she missed you, with your dad being gone. And now you were taking Johnny from her too.
"It's cold in here, no?"
Arriving at the house you put Johnny down and let him explore his new home. You and your mother started unpacking their things as she had agreed to stay with you for a few days.
"It's the heater. I think it's broken. " You immediately got up to sort out the fireplace.
"An open fire." Your mother scuffed.
"Mom don't start."
"Baby, you can't have a four year old running around where there is an open flame. It's dangerous."
"Well, I'm not gonna let him freeze."
"Don't you have someone who can come and take a look at the heater, it can't be impossible to fix?"
You had someone who could come over, but that someone wasn't speaking to you anymore. Two weeks had gone by since you last spoke to Ruben, the last time being when he kissed you. It was petty and childish of him not to want to sort things out as an adult and so you decided to let him be, to not hunt him down for answers or help anymore.
The following days involved a lot of administration work for you. For this you were grateful for your mother's presence, as she helped you get Johnny's insurance sorted, the house insurance sorted and help you enroll Johnny to a nice kindergarten. It was all going well and Johnny really seemed enjoy his new town.
"Look, horse!" He exclaimed, as the three of you had joined the locals at a street market that the town had put together. Many people were selling their own goods like crops and honey. One farmer was even letting the kids ride his horse around the block.
"Careful Johnny, don't get to close to it."
"It's okay mom. The horse is tied up."
The farmer let Johnny pet the horse and sit on it's back. Meanwhile you and your mother checked out the many market stands, one of them being Katarina's.
"Y/N!" She exclaimed at the sight of you. "I haven't seen you for ages, where have you been?"
"You know...fixing up the house."
"Really? Has Ruben been up there helping you?"
"Um...no, not really."
"No?" She frowned. "Then what has that man been up to theses days." She murmured. "He barley comes over either."
"Who's Ruben?" Your mother budged in, which was a good time for you to introduce her.
"Mom, meet Katarina. Katarina and her husband let me stay with them after the storm damaged my house."
"Of course." Your mother nodded. "Thank you for taking care of my baby."
"Mom." You were embarrassed.
"With pleasure, she's lovely." Katarina offered your mother her hand. They both smiled as they shook.
"Mommy, mommy!" At some point Johnny came running, tugging at your jeans. "I rode the horse mommy, did you see?"
You picked him up and wiped a dead eyelash from his cheek. "I did see you baby, you looked really cool."
"Gammy, did you see me. I looked cool."
"I did see honey." Your mother gladly unhanded Johnny from you, giving his face a round of wet kisses. As Johnny squirmed in anguish you noticed Katarina and the peculiar expression that had come across her face.
"This is my son,  Johnny." You realized that you hadn't told her about him, you hadn't told anyone about him.
"You have a son?" She smiled, although her smile was stiff and a bit sorrowful.
"Yes. He just turned four. He has been living with my mother up until now..... because of the house."
"Of course." Said Katarina. "May I ask, does Ruben know about him?"
"Who, my son?"
"Yes, dear."
Well he knew of Johnny, you thought. Little did he know...."Yes, yes he does." You lied.
Katarina nodded her head but remained silent. Suddenly she perked up. "Tell you what, why won't you and your family come over for dinner tonight? David is hosting a small gathering to celebrate the years harvest."
"We accept the invitation." Your mother said, beating you to it.
"Wonderful. I'll see you at our house at six, there'll be a BBQ so come on an empty stomach.
"Thank you Katarina."
Back at the house you weren't sure if you wanted to attend this gathering.
"Why not?" You mother protested, surley she was up to it for the free BBQ, the fact that she wouldn't have to cook for once.
"I don't know mom." You weren't really in the mood.
"Does any of this have to do with that man the lady mentioned, Ruben?"
You were astonished how alert your mother were at picking up on things.
"She said he used to come over and help you with the house and now he's not coming over anymore, no?"
You shook your head. "No."
"My sweet child."
"Well you've made things difficult for yourself indeed. But you'll get a chance to tell him the truth, I'm sure he'll understand."
"He's just a friend mom, really." You assured. "He was the previous owner of this house and I think I made a mistake not to tell him about buying the house in grandad's name. Ruben thinks Johnny's is my husband."
"You think so?"
"Yes, now let's get ready for that BBQ."
Okay, you were a little excited for the BBQ. You loved spending time with your friends and leaving the city left you without no social life whatsoever. You needed stability and Johnny needed a proper introduction to the locals. But as you walked through the gate to Katarina and David's backyard, something caught your eye. A familiar face stood by the grill, flipping burgers with ease. It was Ruben.
"Well I'll be damned." David removed his cap at the sight of them.
"Y/N!" Someone exclaimed, making heads turn your way, including Ruben's. Katarina had been coming down the steps to the back porch when she spotted you. "David, come! I'd like for you to meet Y/N's family." She waved for her husband to get up off his seat. The two of then came towards you in a way that felt like you were getting attcked. Behind you you could hear your mother coming through the gates, little Johnny in her arms.
"David honey, this is Y/N's mother...".
"Tanya." Your mother smiled.
"Nice to meet you Tanya, I'm David."
"And guess who this is..." Katarina was eager to unhand Johnny from your mother,  taking him into her own embrace. She was good with children, you could tell immediately.
"Well who's this little guy?" David said, poking out a finger to tickle Johnny's belly. His laughter echoed throughout the backyard.
"This is Johnny honey. Y/N's son."
A light lit up David's eyes. "Well, how old are you son?"
Johnny was a bit shy but managed show his age with his fingers.
"Now I bet you couldn't guess how old I am?"
Johnny bit his lip, but decided to show off all of his five fingers.
"Five!" David laughed. "That's right son, I'm five years old." David laughed so hard that he struggled to breath.
"Oh honey don't be such a fool." Katarina sighed. "Please take Tanya inside and help her fix herself a plate."
"With pleasure." He said, escorting your mother inside.
"I better check if anything needs a refill. She said, handing Johnny back to you. "Please help yourself to a drink."
As Katarina rushed inside she passed by Ruben who looked to be coming your way. The two exchange a few words, resulting in Ruben really coming your way.
"Hey."
"Hi."
Johnny hid his face in the crook of your neck. The giant shadow that Ruben casted upon you had frightened him a little.
"It's okay baby, it's just Ruben."
"How have you been?" He asked, mostly out of courtesy. Perhaps Katarina had made him come over and talk to you.
"Fine, I guess."
"Kat tells me your family is visiting."
"Yes, my mother is here."
"And who is this guy?" He smiled. Johnny had dared come out of his hiding place.
"This is Johnny Jr, my son."
Ruben looked taken aback but quickly composed himself. "Oh, so he's named after his father?" His gaze trailed somwere over your shoulder as if someone was about to walk through the backyard gates.
"No. He's named after his grandfather actually."
"I..." Ruben looked confused, struggling to put two and two together.
"I've been meaning to tell you." You said, rocking your body back and forth as Johnny was becoming heavy to carry.
"Tell me what?" Ruben asked.
"About Johnny, my grandad."
"Your grandfather's name is Johnny?" He frowned.
"And my son." You nodded.
"And your husband..."
You shook your head. "No. It's just me and him, me and Johnny."
Ruben was about to open his mouth and say somthing when Katarina was seen re-entering the backyard.
"We're out of potatosallad! Ruben I'm going to need you to run to the shop and buy me some more potatoes."
"Um...sure."
"Y/N, you go with him."
"W..what why?"
"Because we're out of juice. There's nothing else for Johnny to drink but water. You go with Ruben and help him pick out your son's favorite juice."
"Um...okay."
"Here, I'll take Johnny, let him take a nap inside."
"What are you..."
He had been drifting off in your arms without you noticing. As the two of them disappeared inside you had no other choice but to go with Ruben. You expected a quiet and awkward ride in his truck, but to your suprise the car ride didn't last two blocks.
Ruben made a sharp turn, parking his truck near a deserted grove.
"Ruben?" You asked expectantly, a bit shook form the bumpy ride.
"No." You sighed. "I'm not married. Johnny's father.... It's a complicated story."
"So you're not married?"
Ruben turned in his seat to look at you. He was picking up where you left off.
Ruben was looking at you with big eyes, almost demanding you to go on.
Your eyes diverged from his face to your hands. "I was a young nurse volontueering in a community in Colombia." You said, not so fond about bringing up memories of your past. "As political rebels started infiltrate the small town, the government put military forces in to stop them. It's how I met Johnny's father, he was patrolling near the hospital where I worked. One thing led to another and Johnny was born."
You looked up to see Ruben take in your words but the dent between his eyebrows told you that things weren't all clear for him.
"All you need to know..." You sighed. "...is that he's not involved. Like not at all. I don't even know where he is." You shrugged. He could be stationed in another town in Colombia, or he could've been killed by rebels a long time ago. You wouldn't know.  "It's just me taking care of Johnny, it's aways been like that.  Of course my grandparents were there for me during my pregnancy. Gosh, how I wished my grandad was here to see Johnny grow up." You trailed off, the past memories making you realize how much you've had to overcome. Ruben sat silent next to you. Until he wasn't.
"So when I kissed you..." He said, words uttured cautiously.
"Yes?"
You chuckled. "No Ruben, I didn't mind. I actually..."
"...you didn't mind?" He asked.
It was all he needed to hear. Ruben leaned over and did it again, placing a soft peck on your lips. As you parted you opened your eyes, only to find Ruben smiling at you.
"That was..."
"Y/N, I thought I...."
"Sshhh." You sushed him, his scruffy beard tickling the palm of your hand. "Just kiss me again."
You uncovered your hand from his mouth. Ruben scooted closer, unbuckling his seat belt. The two of you were making out within seconds of your lips colliding. Soft moans filled the narrow space in the car, with Ruben having you lay down in the passenger seat.
"Y/N, you must know....it's been awhile."
You could tell by how eager he was, his hands finding their way underneath your shirt and bra, groping your breasts, pinching your nipples.
"It's okay Ruben, I'm on birth control."
His breath was in your ear, running warm. You could tell how turned on he was by the way his erection pressed against your stomach. He was tugging at the bud of your zipper, pulling it down as to slip a hand down your pants.
You gasped.
"Fuck." He grunted, his fingertips feeling how swollen and wet you were for him.
"Ruben." You cried. For someone who hadn't been intimate for a while he sure knew how to tease you.
"Please." You begged.
He sat back to pull your jeans down your legs. Once they were off he got on top of you again, one hand unbeckling his belt. He pushed your panties aside and let his tip spread your folds. Once his cock was aligned with your entrance he eased into you with a satisfied groan.
"Fuck Y/N, you feel so good."
"Fuck, I'm sorry." He said, sitting up, regaining his composure.
Your walls clenched around him, not yet adjusted to his size. You arched your back as Ruben began thrusting his hips, bringing himself in and out of you in waves. The truck rocked with his movment and anyone passing by would know what was going on inside of it, but in that moment neither of you could care less.
Ruben came before you, his body collapsing on top of you. You lay like that for a minute, just holding onto each other, letting your breaths come down from the high.
"It's okay." You reaching for your pants. "We better get back before Katarina wonders where we've gone."
Ruben chuckled. "I think she already knows.
"What makes you think that?" You said,  adjusting your hair in the trucks rareview mirror.
"Because... David and I helped Kat buy about ten kilos of potatoes the other day.  There is no way one BBQ made her run out."
Ruben was right about the potatosallad. As you returned from the shop with Johnny's juice, everyone with a plate of food also had a side of potatosallad on it.
"Back from the shop I see." Katarina said, grinning from ear to ear. She, your mother and Johnny were seated together. "How did it go?"
"Wow, you're really strong!" Johnny exclaimed, looking up at Ruben with admiration.
"Great." Ruben smiled, he looked to you, a twinkle in his eye. He then looked down at the table, to Johnny, who was going off with his crayons. As a shadow was casted Johnny looked up from his coloring book, his big brown eyes wide with curiosity. "Hi!" he said, waving shyly at Ruben.
Ruben, who had been taken aback by the sudden introduction, forced a smile onto his face. "Hey there little guy! It's nice to meet you." Ruben tried to sound calm and confident. But as soon as he saw Johnny's tiny hand wrapped around his own large one, all of his doubts melted away.
Ruben laughed and ruffled Johnny's hair. "Well, I like to think so," he said. "But you know what? You're pretty strong too."
You were standing to the side, feeling your heart swell at the two of the interacting. The night would go on with Johnny never wanting to leave Ruben's side and with Ruben never letting him do so. Just like Katarina, he was a natural with kids, you could tell immediately.

Project Link Up All Stars Incorrect Quotes- Native American Speech (Happy Thanksgiving!)
Erika Fierceheart (Piccolo’s Linker): Wait!
Calandra Rubens (La Signora’s Linker): What?
Erika Fierceheart (Piccolo’s Linker): We cannot break bread with you.
Calandra Rubens (La Signora’s Linker): Huh? Jessie, what's going on?
Jessie (Pokemon): Erika!
Erika Fierceheart (Piccolo’s Linker): You have taken the land which is rightfully ours. Years from now my people will be forced to live in mobile homes on reservations. Your people will wear cardigans, and drink highballs. We will sell our bracelets by the road sides. You will play golf and enjoy hot hors d'oeuvres. My people will have pain and degradation. Your people will have stick shifts. The gods of my tribe have spoken. They have said, "Do not trust the Pilgrims. Especially Sarah Miller.”
Calandra Rubens (La Signora’s Linker): James, she's changing the words.
Erika Fierceheart (Piccolo’s Linker): And for all these reasons I have decided to scalp you… and burn your village to the ground.
(Cue an absolute riot and the entire production going to hell)
Happy Thanksgiving, my moots!

Everytime I feel horribly obliterated by the feeling of hideousness that invades me every time I look in a mirror, I have to remind myself that it's actually me who Rubens painted, and not any person capitalism is trying to sell me so desperately.

Life on the farm slowly began to take shape. After they finished the inside of the house, Esther's next goal was to start learning about agriculture. There was a lot of land for her to use, but she knew nothing about farming and how to get started. With some persuasion, Frances agreed to sell her jewellery and with that, they had enough money to buy a cow. There was still a long way to go, but at least they were a little closer to being self-sufficient.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Every day Frances missed her old life. She put on a good face to the rest of her family, but in reality, she was deeply unhappy. She especially tried to be supportive towards Esther, since she fought so hard for them to have a tolerable life here but once she was alone she often found herself lost in thought, pondering about the days when she still had her brother and Arnie by her side. She missed them both terribly.

Edwin wasn't too satisfied with the situation either. He was stunned at how the rest of his family seemed to have just moved on from their old life in Brindleton. He didn't want to help with the farm and mostly sat in his room sulking. However, he had found a friend in Silvia, who was also disappointed with the new accommodation. She missed her friends and old life as much as Edwin missed his father.

The only ones who were pleased with the new accommodation were Esther and Ruben. They were newly married and happier than ever. When they didn't have to work on the farm, they spent a lot of time together in their bedroom.
