#RtS recasts

speaking of the special--
--Since Miles Luna showed interest in recasting the characters of color with voice actors of color (seeing as almost ALL of the characters of color (max, gwen, and nerris being the most important ones) are voiced by white people), i wonder if they're gonna recast for the special or leave them be since it's just a one-off special

So uh...
Apparently going away for the weekend equals things absolutely fucking exploding.
I’m sure everyone has, by this point, heard SOMETHING regarding Rooster Teeth and its latest controversies.
Namely, multiple former employees speaking up about their horrendous experiences with the company. Wage Theft, Underpaying, just flat out NOT PAYING PEOPLE, extreme Crunches, toxic bro culture, homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, ect ect ect.
I’m trying to gather some of the main points, so excuse my brain still going ??????????
Long-time employee Matt is given the boot, with his position “dissolved” in the latest rounds of corporate layoffs.
Kdin issues a statement regarding Hostile Environment, Abusive working conditions, and considerable amount of unpaid work/medical bills.
The floodgates open.
Others speak up either confirming Kdin’s experiences and/or adding their own experiences.
HR being more than useless. Higher Management being abusive and out-right not paying employees in every way possible.
Barbara (Yang) removes all mention of RT from her twitter profile.
Arryn (Blake) and Sam (Nora) reveal that someone at the top that isn’t at the company anymore had threatened to recast their roles, when they raised concerns re: payment.
Jen (Pyrrha) talks about issues with being paid and further confirms the other ugliness going on.
Michael Jones (AH, Sun) confirms his part in Kdin’s mistreatment, issues a public apology that was accepted by Kdin. I’m not diving into that, since I don’t feel comfortable speaking over the actual parties re: where they are now versus where they were then.
Others issue apologies to Kdin, which are....uh.....not graciously accepted.
RT issues a very by-the-numbers statement, which is worthless.
More former employees talk about having horrible experiences with over-work, issues with being paid, and general abusive environment.
CRWBY showrunners have for the most point not issued statements, likely because they are in a tricky position re: the corporate overlords. Some people have been noting the statements they are Liking or otherwise supporting.
Several people reveal that RT employees that do voice work have been getting cheated out of being PAID for this extra work. Because “you’re already an employee” kind of nonsense.
Everyone speaking out has basically stated the problem is Corporate and the Top Brass of the company. Asking people to please remember that the showrunners, writers, animators, voice actors, and other creative talent are all potentially victims of the same horrible stuff.
Basically, a huge fucking dumpster fire.

Hey... new to RWBY, loving everything I've discovered on it thus far but... why are some in the Fandom... unable to be normal about this show? I mean, I know that no fandom is free from toxicity but this is some nuclear fallout with what I can only call a hatedom.
It's got a lot of anime fans who are angry that it isn't following anime tropes
The creator Monty Oum died in between Volumes 2 and 3 and therefore anything they don't like is "tainting Monty's vision" which makes everyone mad.
There was a deconstruction of military sci fi in the Atlas arc which pissed off fans of it. Basically the big bad of that arc was a general whose authoritarian tendencies gradually turned him evil and some bootlickers were mad about that.
In general, men are not prioritized in this show and that pisses off a lot of fans eager to find the "real" main character among one of the men and failing. So there are a lot of fans giving RWBY undue hate for having female main characters or claiming that it's misandrist for having male villains.
The Faunus oppression storyline has really not been handled well and while it's gotten a bit better in recent volumes, it still played into a few too many stereotypes about how violent resistance to violent racism is bad.
The romantic tension between Blake and Yang has drawn in a lot of sapphic fans as well as a lot of homophobes telling us how they're not homophobic they just hate the idea of two women flirting and RT is going woke etc etc.
Rooster Teeth has been exposed as being a very bad place to work. They have been homophobic, transphobic, and racist to many of their employees, have avoided giving workers' comp to injured employees, they underpay their voice actors when they pay them at all (Kdin Jenzen has revealed that she was never compensated for her voice work since it was considered an "addition" to being an employee and Arryn Zech was threatened with recasting when she tried to argue for industry standard pay), and they crunch most of their workers. They have quit crunching their animators so hard after Glassdoor exposed their poor treatment of animators but some departments within it are still struggling (a former rigger said they were crunched for Volume 9 due to an incompetent lead) and Samantha Ireland has said that the person who threatened her with recasting no longer works there, but it's not exactly useful when it seems like they've replaced it with regularly laying off animators so they don't have to give them the promotions or pay raises they promised.
This, as you'd expect, has led to a bit of a split in the RWBY fandom on how to handle that and how to help the employees. Many have switched to pirating the show to avoid giving RT money, many have dropped it outright and refuse to give it any promotion even through fandom, and some have, at the request of the RWBY animators and employees who need renewal for their employment, continued to watch it legally or semi-legally. So there's fighting over what the right thing to do is.
There was a two-year hiatus between Volumes 8 and 9 because of COVID and to avoid animator crunch. Some people are mad about this and believe they should have crunched the animators. They are assholes.

As much as I do not want V10 to get greenlit, it would be fucking hilarious to watch RT shoot themselves in the foot over trying to handle the Tyrian problem.
They're never getting that VA back (good! Power to the people!). Tyrian's voice is so not something you can easily recast. And so much of his charm and his character is his voice. It's not like Qrow, who just had Generic Vic Voice and got better when recast. It's not like Yuri and Mercury, because Yuri can do almost any normal male voice if you ask.
Tyrian's voice is completely and utterly unique. And the inflections are just as much a part of that as the tone.
So, what could they do? What would they do?
Kill him offscreen? Have his fight only have soundbites from previous volumes and kill him off quickly? Try (and fail) to find a VA whose new voice isn't so weird and different that it's all anyone notices all volume no matter what other stupid plot hole filled garbage they spew at us?
The possibilities to laugh and mock RT are endless.

So, what would end up happening then? Does Crunchyroll take over the funding of animating RWBY? Does the IP just eventually exist without Rooster Teeth attached to it if the latter goes under? Is the quality just going to drop from this point onwards?
Crunchyroll likely only has RWBY distribution rights in "The Americas", which has nothing to do with IP rights. Those are two totally different things, Crunchyroll does not own RWBY at all.
Alright, hypothetical situation time based on what has already happened in the past:
If RT shuts down then Warner Bros Discovery would still own the IP for RWBY, as they always have since they purchased RT.
If WBD wants to keep making the show (and that's a BIG IF since WBD has cut their animation studios down to a fraction of what it once was and continues to do so) but wants to "avoid all that nonsense" that happened around RT... they would just hire another animation studio and new writers and new everyone (save maybe the VAs... possibly, likely some recasting would happen) and either reboot the show or just keep making seasons as they see fit.
You know... just like what they did with Gen:Lock Season 2... and we all saw how well that went.
Again, this is all completely hypothetical and based on things that have already happened in the past between these companies and based on my knowledge of the industry.

Remember how I said that Glitch Productions actually gives a shit about its employees, unlike RT? Well, I may very well be wrong about that. On February 6th, Tari’s original voice actress, Celeste-Notley Smith, was let go and recast without even being notified in advance. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the outrage this caused led to Robyn of AnimeAmerica resigning from the voice of SMG2, as well as the revelation that 80% of the original Meta Runner crew resigned from Glitch due to “disagreements with management”. Lastly, the VA manager for Glitch said that she “simply forgot to notify Celeste” as her explanation. I really hope that Luke and Kevin weren't involved, and that they’re able to get rid of the management staff responsible for this controversy.
P.S. Celeste was actually heavily pregnant with twin boys when she first started voicing Tari in Meta Runner, which Robyn explained in a video on the AnimeAmerica YouTube channel, along with all the other things I mentioned here.
Take a shot everyone...

"If nothing else, when I get anonsense telling me off for daring to like a product made by an evil company, I usually toss some money to the patreon or gofundmes of one of the many creators or staffers screwed over by said company. I’ve definitely spent more on that support then the show at this point." well as long as you can sleep well enough at night I guess your blood money helps.
Good news Anon! It's my payday, and given I don't give money to RT, I might as well toss some of it to the people who actually made the show I really enjoy while they were being mistreated by their employers! Any preferences?
Perhaps some of the animators that were underpaid and worked overtime?
The trans voice actress who voiced and consulted on some of the best trans rep we have (A low low bar to clear, true) while the company hid behind this material as a smokescreen of 'see we made this aren't we progressive?' while indulging in general anti-LGBT fuckery and made much of her life a living hell?
The voice actor who tried to use his position at the company to speak up about it only to get shadow-blacklisted for years as a result?
The other voice actors who were underpaid and threatened with recasting if they tried to negotiate? (Man there's a lot of VAs on here...)
If Rooster Teeth goes under, so be it. The execs and assholes brought it on themselves. But I'm not gonna pretend they didn't make a good show that I enjoy, and just claim it was always a bad show. And I'm certainly not going to pretend there aren't people with the company that deserve support.

I don't have an issue with the recasting of voice actors for CampCamp but I do find it weird them bringing CampCamp back again, and honestly I really hope they aren't pinning their hopes on it being a big hit again as it seems enough people are finding it jarring that they don't want to watch
yo honestly, that's an interesting point!
with that big break between season 4 and that episode from rt's anniversary last year, i still never fully found out why there was such a long hiatus to begin with. i never followed the animated productions rt made as closely as i did with AH, so my understanding as to what happened comes from fans' social media comments. not the most ideal way to go about it, but eehhh
like, as i understand it, they were looking for funding for more episodes for the longest time, kinda like how they're currently looking for funding for rwby volume 10 (and however many more subsequent volumes after that). however, i'm not really sure how they were suddenly able to secures cc's 5 (albeit shorter) season. is the shorter runtime because animation is just that expensive, or are there other factors? i dunno
regardless, i think the audience for that show stayed strong enough to return for new content. i wouldn't be surprise if it were thanks to like, spikes of popularity on youtube and especially tiktok. your guess is as good as mine in regards to how much of a hit rt expects the new season to be, though :(

Jesus Christ, they threatened to recast Arryn when she asked for higher pay? Fucking recast one of the titular characters of the show because she asked for higher pay? And knowing all the other shit that has come out she probably was asking for like, barely above minimum wage. Man FUCK RT

So Michael hasn't been given any voice work for Sun since they wrote him out in 2018 and he wasn't included in the spin offs or games either. They recasted his character in Camp Camp for stupid reasons. I also heard Achievement Hunter is ending too. What work is left for Michael at RT?
Not much, that's what. Lindsay still has RWBY but since that's also circling the drain (allegedly.) Michael is doing something called Dogbark which replaced AH? other than that, nothing.
The jones family might just pack up and move on from RT before they go under. jump into the metaphorical lifeboat as it were before the titanic hits the iceberg, if you catch my drift.

Guys just leave crwby alone. Based off Arryns post I think it’s fair to assume RT fucked them over too and that there was nothing at all they could do to change it. The fact that they threatened to recast Arryn of all people makes it very clear they had no foot to stand on.

I’ll bet they’ll have Mercury kill Tyrian off screen either in self defense I’m becoming evil-er (likely with the way rt treats it’s male characters esp ones with disabilities / abuse survivors).
With a 0.1 percent chance he’ll kill Tyrian off screen to do a heel turn redemption “arc” like Emerald.
Either they kill Tyrian off like you said, or they just revoice him like they did with Mercury and Qrow. The previous seasons showed that they ain’t above recasting even important characters if their VAs are given the sack/leave.
Unless it’s characters voiced by their friends, that is. Can’t have that nepotism go to waste now, can we?

What happened now????
A lot of people talking about mistreatment working for RT, a lot of (from what i've heard) transphobia and homophobia
I think yesterday Blake's VA and Nora's VA mentioned that they were threatened to be recast at some point before
Tyrian's VA just said that after all of this, he won't return to voice him---
A lot is goin on
