i keep seeing the argument along the lines of “shaming/guilting poc into voting for genocide joe is bad” basically—and i remember seeing that argument before. it doesn’t make sense to me to prioritize your own good feelings/pride over keeping trump (who will make everything worse) out of the office. how do you respond to that argument?

I find any argument about vote shaming inane and largely in bad faith and any argument about not voting for Biden to be ideologically and strategically short-sighted, if not stupid.

Ignoring all the positive that he's done and all that he has said he'd like to do if he had more Democratic votes in Congress, the argument is to allow someone who is fundamentally worse on pretty much every issue, and who would be far less receptive to any pressure, and someone who has openly talked about how awful they would be if elected and empowered again. Ideologically, the argument is in favor of increasing deaths and harms.

Strategically, electing someone who is opposed to your issues and causes, who has openly talked of how repressive they'd like to be, and who would allow violent white supremacy and extremism to rule and has the support of people who are fervently in favor of repression and violence and armed conflict and who want the organs and tools of the state to be available to them for those uses does not seem like the smartest choice.

The more serious answer is that Brie Larson pissed off the internet chuds when she mentioned wanting to ensure that more diverse journalists were included during the advertising and promoting of the film.

She happened to be kinda blunt about it, in terms of not wanting it to just be a bunch of white dudes.

That pissed off those sections of the internet, many of which were ALREADY mad because GIRL BAD. And it merely got worse when the film came out, and Carol was no-nonsense, kind of (rightfully) cocky, she injures a dude for harassing her, and refuses to play games with the man that gaslit and tried to control her.

One of the reasons for the "Left" becoming more and more like a cheerleading squad for exactly the kind of things Leftists are supposed to hate is because so much of this new coalition of young people are coming from conservative backgrounds, but not doing any real work to deradicalize themselves.

They grow up with these Puritanical ideas of sin and justice, crime and punishment, and instead of unlearning any of this they just switch the targets of their disdain. It's switching teams for them, not learning that they don't have to play the game. Most of them are soft conservatives who just want free healthcare.

And these Leftoid chud debate pervert streamers like Hasanabi are a big contributing factor to this, not the only factor, but a prominent one. He definitely puts this veneer of artificiality and commodification over the Left. American society is under a lot of stress right now, culturally and economically. Instead of the Left organically building coalitions it's mostly unorganized college kids reading Al Jazeera and Russian and Chinese propaganda and running as fast as they can away from privilege and having a toddler understanding of class consciousness. It's so pathetic and basic and it will not save us.

You cannot save a society that you don't think is worth saving. They're just practicing radical disengagement and some kind of edgy nihilism. They purport to hate America and the West and want to burn it all down but they know that will never happen which is why they're so comfortable with the cognitive dissonance. It's why they don't vote, and why organizing and demonstrating is like teeth pulling for them. Either black activists have to do all the leg work for them, or the protests have to be about tearing something down, not advocating for any positive change, right now that's Israel. Soon it will be something else.

Unironically, the pussy hat resist lib wine moms did way more with their women's marches than any of these wannabe philosopher college kids are doing with anything. Like I know for a fact a "Leftist" would read a post like that and be like "L + ratio libshit, imagine supporting the neoliberal fascist colonialist concept of due process?" like we're so beyond the pale at this point. When fascism takes over, I'm sure they'll think they're fighting back, but if the fascists learn to coopt enough phrases about climate and Palestine and healthcare, will they even notice the fascists taking over?

I've got a few friends who were raised hardcore fundie Christian, "gays will burn" creation and rapture types. They went to normal public colleges and wound up becoming very left-wing, all the left memes and slogans you can think of, fastidious in their distinctions between and protections of every conceivable marginalized group (which none of them are, on any axis). And.... you can't disagree with them about anything. Can't point out that a source is questionable or that a slogan is psychologically backfiring and producing skepticism or mockery instead of benefits. They will not hear of it, because they are still fundies. They did a binary flip from one team to another but never moderated their tactics or temperament.

One of the above statements is Problematic and the other is slightly annoying. If we disagree on which is which then working together for a better future is going to get really fucking difficult.

pretty much all anti-zoo sentiment is based on a gut reaction and nothing else. animals do not have concepts like “prisons.” animals desire to be well-fed, hydrated, healthy, safe and enriched, and this is what good zoos provide for them. animals living in well-managed zoo habitats have a higher quality of life than their wild counterparts, free of predation, starvation, exposure and parasites, and have a much higher chance of survival when they get sick. and that’s what animals desire. they’re not sitting around thinking, “well this is good and all, but i’d rather trade my health for a nebulous concept like freedom. i want to go die of mange in the wilderness.”

good zoos are also more ethical by FAR than placing exotics like wildcats or highly intelligent birds in private keepers’ homes, but strangely a lot of folks who hate zoos have no qualms with that.

To anyone wondering if it's worth it to tear down fascist posters or whatever. I spent a few months last year engaged in silent battle with another student at my school who was putting anti trans stickers up everywhere. I had it down to a system where every night I would walk the five block radius they went up in, and tear down all the ones I could reach, and use a stick to put duct tape over the others. Like, within hours of the stickers going up, I would have already purged the whole zone. I knew the basic schedule of whoever put them up based on when and where the stickers appeared. I probably could have found them in person if I'd wanted to. And I told all my classmates and friends what the stickers looked like and got them to rip them down too. And after a few months of this, the stickers slowed, and then stopped forever.

My point is, a lot of this fashy or right wing stuff is one local weirdo. And if you pay attention, and do a little light organizing with your friends, you can basically make their efforts into a giant sisyphisean exercise in misery. You control your streets!

Wow, Fontaine absolutely insane storyline and so much major lore and like......major shakeups to the status quo.

HEY KIDS IT'S SPOILER TIME.

First and foremost, the reveal that Furina both is and ISN'T the Archon was really interesting. So far, it feels like Venti has been the most straight-forward Archon but even that is SUS.

We had Zhongli who retired from his position but is still considered the Archon.

We had the whole Raiden Shogun is a puppet double for Ei, the Archon who is a shut-in that has been absent for centuries and was in fact the body-double/kagemusha for the OG Archon, her twin.

We had Nahida, the reincarnation/daughter of the previous Archon, born for the purpose of erasing her predecessor from Irminsul.

And now we have Focalors, who divided herself into her divinity and her humanity and charged her human self with pretending to be the Archon for centuries. All while not knowing the plan, just knowing she had to protect the secret and ensure Fontaine's survival. All while basically an ordinary, Visionless human cursed with immortality.

Furina getting to become a Real Girl, and being directly rewarded with a Vision for all she went through.

The destruction of one of the Seven Thrones, with no more Hydro Archon. Instead, reinstating one of the Dragon Sovereigns to power and leaving Fontaine in his hands after a 5 century plan to teach him to care about humanity.

The people of Fontaine being descendants of Oceanaids, granted human form but never truly human. And all the people becoming human at the conclusion, as their Sin is forgiven.

The Fatui not being antagonists, but instead our primary allies for the storyline. I am still suspicious of Arlecchino, as I feel like the other Harbingers warning about her still holds some weight. I mean yeah Wanderer's view of people tends to be highly negative, so it's hard to know how much of it is accurate.

And Skirk basically rolling in, yeeting Childe through a portal, and then dropping a ton of lore bombs on us.

So her master is "Sutarlogi, the Foul" and the Narwhal that nearly destroyed a nation is his PET. His pet that Skirk thinks is annoying.

And the Gnosis are made from the corpse of the Third Descender.
