Hi :) With the KOSA stuff being so close I invite you to not only go to Bad Internet Bills and Stop Kosa, but I also invite you to text Resist to ResistBot at 50409
ResistBot will help you write and send a personal letter to your reps and senators, and even the president if you want. You can write it yourself or it can write it for you.
It will ask you what bill or article, KOSA is S 1409, and it will ask if you want it to pass or not and why.
Do not pass (obviously) and reasons include but are not limited to:
-Invasion of privacy
-Danger to children
-Harmful to LGBT youth and spaces
-Censorship of harmful world wide issues supported by the United States government, like the genocide of Palestinians
You can probably word that last one better then me. Anyways, cater it to your reps, unfortunately you are much more likely to get their attention if you talk about reasons they advocate for and claim to care about.
This is urgent and unfortunately something they are seriously considering despite being discouraged by people who have way more knowledge about this stuff.

Fellow U.S. Americans,
If you’re concerned about KOSA (Kids Online Safety Act), I would recommend contacting your local representatives via badinternetbills.com. It takes seconds to fill out the form. I would also recommend using Resistbot. I’ve used that tool multiple times, and I’ve successfully gotten a response from my local representatives each time. This is critical as KOSA has bipartisan support, and there are a lot of misconceptions about what this bill could mean for everyone.
KOSA proposes to protect children on the internet, which seems like a noble cause and it’s easy for people to fall for harmful bills when they promise to “protect the children.” There are elements of KOSA that seem reasonable, such as limiting what advertisers can show to minors (e.g. no alcohol and tobacco ads) and requiring social media to provide safety features for children and parents so that their content won’t be used to exploit them.
The problem is that right wing conservatives intend on using KOSA to eliminate LGBTQ+ content and anything they deem “critical race theory.” They would also be giving parents greater control over their child’s internet access and online presence, which could endanger children in an abusive situation. And yes, this could impact censorship on any website a child could technically access. That means that adult content made by and for adults could be banned and censored altogether just because children might access the website.
I know that is all very concerning, but it’s really important that you share those concerns with your local representatives. They are there to represent you, and it’s important that they know that you’re unhappy with this bill. If they don’t listen to you, then you let them know that their job is on the line when elections comes back around. If you want to fight censorship locally, I would recommend getting involved in local school boards because fringe groups have been trying to ban books across our schools.
If you’re not from the U.S., please boost information about KOSA. This bill may still impact you as the internet doesn’t exactly adhere to borders.

I keep forgetting to post this, but if you're unaware, Resistbot is an EXCELLENT tool (for USA residents only) for contacting reps, especially on a mass scale and if you're a disabled person like me and have to do most of your activism remotely. Every day I check the most recent letters and bills, and spend some time signing them and sending them to my reps, often drafting my own.
You can look at trending petitions written by other users, such as this one, sign them via SMS text, Apple Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, and Messenger, and email them to all your reps based on your state of residence, as well as the president, governors, and so on. You can also use premium features to send them via fax or postage mail.
Tumblr media
Letters and petitions will give you an image like this, which is great for easy sharing on social media, or printing and slaptagging.
They have an AI tool as well, where you can send their bot a link to an article, give it your stance on the issue, and it will generate pre-written letter for you. They usually come out concise but pretty solid, but premium offers manual editing and adding to them! (though it's also an option to just use the generated letter as a base for typing up your own for free and sending that)
There's a number of other commands that are useful, such as one that will send you a list of bills currently being introduced to the house, a link to said bills, and the opportunity to create a letter based on one. You can also use it to check your voter status, register to vote, and find polling locations.
Premium is $7/month and very worth it imo (I am subscribed, you also get a free enamel pin), it offers even more tools and ease of use.
I encourage you to check it out, it goes beyond just the use of contacting about Palestine and such, it's also great for contacting your state legislatures about other important issues such as abortion access and trans healthcare, and keeping up to date with current events in a very easily accessible way.

Please join us in sending a letter to congress via Resistbot, to maintain masking in healthcare settings.
Please text PRIKQU to 50409 and the Resistbot will take care of getting the letter sent on your behalf.
Demand Masks in Healthcare
As my representatives in Congress, I am asking you to intervene with the CDC and with all levels of the Administration in regards to Covid-19.
We MUST have N95 masks or equivalent worn by all staff with patient contact in healthcare facilities-hospitals, outpatient centers, and nursing homes.
The HICPAC advisory committee to the CDC is proposing to weaken infection control measures. They are incorrectly saying that surgical masks are as protective as N95s, cherry-picked their data, and ignored abundant evidence to the contrary.
Further, some hospitals (like MGH) are not honoring requests from patients that staff wear a mask. This would appear a violation of ADA standards for accommodation and is unconscionable, resulting in patients delaying necessary care because they risk a deadly hospital-acquired Covid infection.
Dr. Cohen like the rest of the Administration is pretending that Covid is over and is focusing on the "urgency of normal." They are pushing people to go back to unmasked offices with inadequate ventilation, when teleworking has worked very well.
On July 20, 900 experts sent a letter to Dr. Cohen asking her and HICPAC to make their processes transparent, to seek the input of a variety of stakeholders, and to listen to experts in ventilation and aerosols. See https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/10482911231195898. This has fallen on deaf ears.
On 8/25, in "The Check-in with Dr. Cohen," a Q&A session, Dr. Cohen tells people to wash their hands and stresses "it's important to use all the tools we have in our toolbox to protect ourselves." Not once did she mention masks or ventilation, both critically important since we know that Covid is primarily transmitted by aerosols.
The CDC states its mission is Saving Lives, Protecting People.TM They have abdicated in meeting their responsibility.

An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress Vote No on the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) S.1409
I urge you to vote no on the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) S.1409. As reported in CNBC and Axios, this bill actively harms kids. Nearly 100 human rights and LGBTQ+ organizations, including the American Library Association, GLAAD, and GLSEN, signed an open letter opposing the prior bill in November 2022 because of how dangerous it is. On this new bill, Evan Greer (EFF) wrote, “I’ve read through it and can say unequivocally that the changes that have been made DO NOT address the concerns that we raised...” KOSA won’t make kids safer. This bill allows any state attorney general to sue any website for “harmful” content. When you have Republicans calling anything LGBTQ+ “sexual exploitation” or anything about race “CRT” to successfully remove books, teachers, and people from the public eye, it’s clear they will use this power to dictate what content platforms can show to minors. The Missouri Attorney General used “mental health” successfully to ban gender-affirming care, which will lead to skyrocketing suicide rates for trans youth. KOSA also hands more private data of children to social media platforms. Per the ACLU, “...the bill would legitimize platforms’ already pervasive data collection to identify which users are minors when it should be seeking to curb those data abuses. Moreover, parental guidance in minors’ online lives is critical, but KOSA would mandate surveillance tools without regard to minors’ home situations or safety. KOSA would be a step backward in making the internet a safer place for children and minors.”

AN OPEN LETTER to THE PRESIDENT & U.S. CONGRESS; STATE GOVERNORS & LEGISLATURES
Support Marijuana Decriminalization for a more Equitable USA
4 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
I am writing to express my strong support for the decriminalization of marijuana at both the federal and state levels. The current approach to cannabis, rooted in policies dating back to 1971, requires urgent reconsideration given evolving social norms and scientific understanding.
The revelation by President Richard Nixon's domestic policy chief, John Ehrlichman, that the war on drugs was designed to target Black communities underscores the urgent need to rectify the injustices perpetuated by decades of punitive drug policies. The disproportionate impact of these policies on communities of color has fueled systemic inequities in our criminal justice system.
Decriminalization of marijuana would shift our focus from ineffective punitive measures to evidence-based public health strategies, emphasizing harm reduction and regulated use, whether medicinal or recreational. It's crucial to differentiate between decriminalization and unregulated use, prioritizing public health and equitable access.
I urge you to champion legislation that decriminalizes marijuana and addresses the racial disparities entrenched by outdated drug policies. By investing in research and public health initiatives related to cannabis, we can develop policies that protect public health while respecting individual freedoms.
In conclusion, federal and state-level decriminalization of marijuana is imperative to rectify the failures of past policies and promote equitable, evidence-based drug reform. I urge you to seize this opportunity to advance sensible, ethical drug policy reforms that reflect our evolving understanding of cannabis regulation.
Thank you for considering my perspective on this critical matter. I look forward to your leadership in championing meaningful drug policy reform.

Btw if anyone didn’t know, in the US you can text “resist” to 50409 to connect to ResistBot. It will look up your reps and you can text a message you want to send them. It’ll handle the opening, your signature, and who to send it to. Really stress free way to demand your reps get off their asses and demand a ceasefire.

I wrote a short letter of protest to the White House. You can sign it with the information above, and you can READ IT FIRST as well, which I recommend doing ALWAYS before putting your name on something. If you don't like it, you're free to write your own, but please do something if you can.
We won't get anywhere if we continue to reward war crimes with positions of authority.

Under Trump-holdover Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s failing leadership, Americans have seen slower mail deliveries and increased costs. There have been five rate increases since 2020. Additionally, slashing U.S. Postal Service jobs, coupled with closing and consolidating mail centers, continues to delay the mail. These harms to the USPS and the American people were all conducted under DeJoy’s disastrous 10-year plan. What’s more, it’s an election year, and DeJoy has a history of obstructing voting by mail. Right now, President Biden can nominate two new public servants to open seats on the Board who will stand up to DeJoy’s destructive leadership and advocate strongly for expanding USPS services. Over 80 U.S. Congresspeople, including members of the committee overseeing the Postal Service, are urging him to do just that and finally oust DeJoy. So do it, please!

For my fellow spoonies who may have (like me) been floundering this month on how to help in any way whatsoever when you can’t leave the house and have no money and can’t think clearly enough to call you representatives directly:
Resistbot has a petition at over 6k signatures that is being sent to the President and Congress telling them directly that what they have done to Palestinians is unspeakable.
Text PRNXBH to 50409 to sign and have a copy sent with your signature at the bottom to the offices of President Biden and all of your federal representatives.

Okay, reaching out to other Americans. I highly suggest using ResistBot to reaching out to your representatives and the White House. There are plenty of “trending” letters you can choose from or you can have it write one based on a provided news article (I normally don’t say use AI, but this is a good product for my anxiety brain). You can send one email a day for free. If you fill out their feedback survey you get 100 coins which allows you to send more.
I’ve been sending at least one a day for Palestine and remember to try your best to support the general strike in any way you can.
