Pyke Having DID

So my Pyke went through some serious childhood trauma and it made me imagine a scenario in which Pyke developed DID as a result. Remember Eleanor, Mortimer, and Linus? The voices he hears were given names both for clarity’s sake and in support of the theory that those are the ghosts of drowned sailors that are speaking to him, which would mean they were human once, and had human names. Or, you know, whatever eldritch horror is communicating with Pyke decided it wanted to try human names on for size. I still didn’t fully make up my mind.

But anyway, what if what happened down there in the depths or the “Swimming City” as Pyke calls it broke down some of the dissociative barriers between himself and his alters to the point where he can properly hear them now, but he mistakes them for the voices from the Deep? I mean, he’s got both just chilling in his head rent free, and it’s not like he’d know what DID even is, so he just chalks it up to all of it being the souls of the departed?

Moreover, just imagine Pyke experiencing shit like:

Memory loss/amnesia (both short term and long term)

Depersonalization

Alternatively, or in addition to that – derealization

A blurred sense of identity and switching between alters

Blackouts

Possessing items he does not remember acquiring

Not recognizing himself in the mirror

Not recognizing his own home

Feeling like he is watching his life from the sidelines rather than living it

Feeling like more than one person

Fluctuating skills and abilities

Fluctuating interests and preferences as well

Intrusions from other alters, passive influence, and conflict between alters

Forgetting people he knew for a significant amount of time

PTSD/C-PTSD symptoms

It just Makes Sense To Me. I am not going to make this canon for my Pyke, but it’s an option I would like to keep exploring!

no one wants to talk about the theon and littlefinger parallels fine I'LL TALK ABOUT THEM. they're both social inferiors in a foster family that they desperately wanted to join but are prevented from doing so which leads to all sorts of complexes!!!

littlefinger didn't really do anything wrong in seeking out catelyn's hand and dueling brandon, he only misread his importance to the tullys and tried to functionally be part of the family that he had been raised in. but that was not allowed to him because of his low birth, just as theon was always relegated to an outsider role within the stark household because he was a hostage. (also note theon's boyhood dream of marrying sansa and ned accepting him as his son; littlefinger's obsession with catelyn seems to actually have catelyn at its core rather than just being a projection of a desire to be accepted within house tully, but who knows, his obsession with cat could actually be the product of an obsession with house tully and his general ambitions to increase his social status). they both had such intense 'i hate you'/'i want to be you' emotions knocking around in their heads as a result of this that they ended up killing—or trying to convince people that they killed—their foster siblings! (i know there's a lot more complexity with the littlefinger and lysa situation, but i think this parallel is really interesting)

littlefinger also had to work for years in gulltown/king's landing to rise through the ranks, to in a way 'regain his standing' to what it was when he was a ward of hoster tully's. throughout his childhood he was constantly around lysa, catelyn, and edmure—all of whom were destined to become lords and ladies of great houses—and was raised like their brother, but after he is banished he struggles to hold even half the status that his foster siblings enjoy naturally. theon goes through a little bit of a similar rude awakening when he arrives back at pyke expecting his father to hail him as his heir returned only to find out balon could not care less about him and likes asha way more, and he takes winterfell to try to prove to balon and the rest of the ironborn that he should be respected. interestingly, we have seen both theon and littlefinger's homecomings on page and they both come across as complete outsiders in the places were they were born, acting above their station because of the circumstances they got used to during their fostering—while this leads to theon trying to reject the starks and gain acceptance from his birth family in acok, in asos when littlefinger goes home to the fingers he wants to get to the eyrie (and to one of the tullys) as quickly as possible

they share some behaviors/character traits, too. littlefinger is noted to dress well, he pays a lot for clothes made of fine fabrics, while we know that theon likes to do the same. littlefinger certainly does this to prove that he is rich and powerful and has made it, showing that he can pay for the same things that any great lord can, which is probably born from more than a little resentment towards hoster for taking him out of the luxury of riverrun and sending him back home to the fingers. similarly, theon dresses elaborately to set himself apart in winterfell, to impress people, and to make himself known, and again this is born from resentment and insecurity (seen best when he goes back to pyke and stresses about what to wear in front of balon). they're also both arrogant and flippant, with a tendency to smile/make jokes too much, perhaps to try to further resist and disparage the social order they feel restricted by

finally there's catelyn: theon looks to her as a quasi-mother figure while he's in winterfell and littlefinger looks to catelyn as a lover, but both of these are impossible and end up being rejected. there's no evidence that catelyn was, like, especially mean to theon, they seem to get on fine in agot, but he was her husband's hostage and we know that she does mistrust him. this attitude is obviously a result of her not trusting the greyjoys because they're reavers/rose against the crown in open rebellion, but it is also no doubt informed by her previous experiences with petyr! it would make sense for her to be wary of a foster son getting close to her children after what happened to her as a kid

#i'm a littlefinger hater but i actually do have immense sympathy for what he went through as a kid especially the lysa stuff #makes him a lot more complex imo #surprisingly it looks like theon is the one that comes out more well-adjusted in regards to his relationship #with his foster family in adulthood. if it can be believed #i mean at least he's not trying to fuck robb's daughter #asoiaf #asoiaf meta #valyrianscrolls #theon greyjoy #littlefinger #petyr baelish

Familial Relationships - I object to the common idea that Theon had always been Balon's "least favorite" child or that Balon had always preferred Asha. IMO, there's not really much support for that in canon and it's impossible and kind of unfair to project Balon's attitude toward Theon in ACOK backwards since so much of it is tainted by Theon being away for 10 years and a hostage on the mainland at that. There's a lot of complicated feelings/issues there that they would not have had pre-rebellion or if Theon had never been taken hostage. Like not to make this a whole meta but it shouldn't be forgotten that Balon's favor toward Asha is not unconditional. What Dagmer tells Theon is telling: "With your brothers dead and you taken by the wolves, your sister was his solace. He learned to rely on her, and she has never failed him." (ACOK, Theon III.) The conditions for Asha having the position she does are 1) she was the only child Balon had left in Pyke and 2) she has managed to live up to his expectations (even by the standards of an outsider, so it's not just Balon coddling his baby girl or whatever). Also telling that Balon had to "learn" to rely on Asha. This was a process, not something that existed naturally. We know from Theon's memories that Balon was not an affectionate father, but imo, he was distant and not very emotionally available rather than abusive or disdainful.

Also, without going into it too much because this already got long lol, I headcanon Theon as having a complicated relationship with Maron (who in my hc is about five years older than Theon because it makes a nice reverse mirror with Robb). That they had the kind of sibling relationship that was ok-to-good when they were little but as Maron grew up, he idolized Rodrik and tried to impress him/get his approval, which involved going along with being mean to Theon, etc, which ruined their relationship. And the reason Theon remembers Rodrik's physical abuse but what he associates with Maron most are "lies" and mockery is in large part due to that feeling of betrayal of Maron "leaving" him for Rodrik.

(Other) Platonic Relationships - I have a whole arsenal of unpopular opinions about Theon & Robb lol. But let's go with something more lighthearted here: My opinion/headcanon is that if Theon got more of a chance, he'd fit in great with Edmure's entire riverlords friendship group, not just Patrek.

wednesday dreamt.

sometimes, she dreamt of pitch black. silent inky ocean waves clouding her vision, arms clawing futile against the suffocation of the mossy voids of space.

sometimes she dreamt of monsters. grimy, disgusting creatures of her subconscious author, the wicked writings of her imagination projected out amalgamations and eldritch horrors.

sometimes she dreamt of her own death. in some dreams it shot out from her chest, a spiny stalagmite bursting out, her heart dug out and lay stabbed at the end of the pyke--she hated these. sometimes they were slow, painful, graced under the hooves of a horseman with disease or famine--she loved these.

but lately, wednesday's dreams were.... off.

instead of the inky black abyss, wednesday saw yellows. she saw blues. she saw pinks. she saw reds and whites and the color palette of the sky, the canvas of evenings, mornings, and sunsets.

instead of monsters she saw people. figures caught between the consciousness of a god and the savagery of an animal. they stood taller than wednesday, yet would caress her face softly with a claw, the fur of the palm softly brushing against her limpid cheeks.

instead of her own death wednesday saw her own life, reimagined with a figure by her side. a partner of blonde and blue and pink. a partner who gently held wednesday and giggled and snorted; mundane scenes of laying in bed and cooking meals would play in the film reel. a sheep in wolf's clothing, who infiltrated her dreams with color and adoration and feelings.

wednesday dreamt of enid. and as much as she hated it, wednesday loved her.

1990s IDM Playlist

Alright! Now we’re finally getting somewhere with this 1990s IDM playlist! Not so much on the Spotify end of things, because their IDM selection isn’t very good at all, but with YouTube, I was able to add a handful of some really great and extremely slept-on songs.

But first, Spotify: with this update, I added one song, and it comes courtesy of a guy from Manchester, UK called Jega, who made his debut in 1996 with an EP called Phlax. And that release’s title track, which also appeared on a 1997 compilation from Skam Records that was simply called Skampler, is fantastic. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles and bleeps and bloops that IDM tracks typically have, but it’s this piece of sci-fi-futuristic electro-intensity that comes with warped and reverberating layers of strings and a sharp and crisp drumbeat. It’s one of Jega’s most popular songs too, having netted over 108K plays on Spotify.

And now, YouTube: I ended up adding seven different songs to this thing, all of which aren’t on Spotify at all, and five of them are made by who I consider to be quite possibly the most underrated IDM producer of all time, London’s Simon Pyke, better known as Freeform, but also known as Nudge. Pyke’s released a bunch of stuff on different stalwart IDM labels throughout his career, including Warp, Skam, Quatermass, Sub Rosa, Worm Interface, and Sprawl Imprint, but he’s also contributed a bunch of complete stunners to compilations as well. And the YouTube play counts for the ones I added today happen to be appallingly low, with “Dice” being the highest at 55 plays, and “Duplo” being the lowest at just 10 plays. It’s hard to pick an absolute favorite out of all of these Pyke adds too, but “Duplo” just might be the one. He really has a tendency to make some of the wildest, most innovative, densest, and uniquely breathtaking IDM that you’ll ever hear in your life. I swear on it. Bear witness to this absolute genius 🤯.

The other two YouTube adds come from a pair of other IDM entities: The Black Dog, who remix German duo Alter Ego’s “Tanks Ahead”—a hypnotically enthralling song with just a little over 4,600 plays that first appeared on Frankfurt label Harthouse’s Dark Hearts - Volume 1 compilation in 1995—and nebulous Autechre side project Gescom’s “Keynell 1,″ which has a number of uploads on YouTube, but only one as it appears exactly on that aforementioned Skampler album.

So, while I understand people’s preference for Spotify, because it’s a way more convenient platform for streaming music, know that if you choose that one, you really will be missing out on some of the greatest IDM that’s ever been made, because I don’t have a single Freeform or Nudge track on it. They’re all over on YouTube. The Spotify playlist is at 14 songs and 75 minutes, but the YouTube one is at 34 songs and 3 and a half hours! That’s more than double!

“What do you mean you are leaving!?”

High Lord Mobil’s question was shared by many of the senior officers gathered in the room.

Aside from the High Lord were several commanders and their sub commanders from the Taylin Guard regiments, three representatives from the system fleet currently stationed at the edges of the system, one Grand Judge representing the police forces maintaining public order on the planet, and finally at least a dozen members who spoke for the scattered militia forces on the planet.

All had gathered at the High Lord’s command to hear what their human allies had to say, but after the human commander Pyke made his abrupt announcement the room had erupted into chaos.

“What use are allies if they flee at the sight of combat?!” one of the militia leaders shouted, earning several nods of approval from the Taylin Guard commanders.

Pyke stood alone, having not brought any staff of his own, and quietly let the roars of disapproval wash over him. Despite his own anger Mobil could not but be impressed by the expressionless face Pyke held despite the ever increasing severity of insults being hurled against him. He knew little of the commander or his past glories in battle, but he had been the one humanity had sent to lead the human expedition forces that Mobil had requested.

“After reviewing the latest intelligence,” Pyke began, boosting his voice over the rambling crowd as easily as a knife cutting through butter, “it is in the opinion of Terran Command that this world is ill suited for defensive action and as such we are to withdraw to a stronger position.”

This only fanned the flames of resentment from the others and new waves of insults were hurled against the human. Mobil noticed from the corner of his eye that one of the militia leaders was making to draw their sidearm and stepped in to defuse the situation.

The war with the Zentar Republic had just begun and he doubted humanity would be willing to invest more into the High Lord’s cause should their chosen be leader be slain before his very eyes.

“I fear your intelligence networks have given you false information.” Mobil stepped forward and looked down at the little human. To those of his own people Mobil looked to be leading them from the front, when in reality he had merely stepped forward to block any potential lines of sight from the hot headed Militia. “Our defenses have been hardened on this world tenfold since the Zentar’s declaration of war and we have reinforced the system fleet with several newly arrived detachments of warships.”

Tapping a studded ring on his long talon like finger, Mobil activated a massive projector cleverly hidden into the décor of the room. The projection showed the system they now stood in with several green icons marking the patrol paths of friendly fleets. Mobil pointed to one such group that was passing by the planet now.

“We have even committed our latest warship design, the Kilm Breaker, to the defense of this system.”

Mobil turned to Pyke with as much confidence as he could muster and smiled. “Would we commit such resources if we were not sure of our own victory?”

Pyke looked at the star chart in silence; his expression unchanged despite what had been said. Reaching into his pocket he withdrew a small metallic disk and clicked it once. Mobil turned as the projection screen flickered for a moment and went from a soft orange to a bright blue in color.

“It is true you have been reinforced by some twenty fleets since we arrived,” Pyke began, clicking the disk again as the projection zoomed in on one of the fleets, “but the majority of ships that have arrived are light cutter craft designed for hunting pirates, not standing their ground against an organized fleet.”

The data for the projection updated to show this information, much to the displeasure of the fleet representatives who were now looking somewhat embarrassed.

“The only line ship you have is the Kilm Breaker, and while it is impressive and advanced it is but one ship against an entire fleet of warships.”

Mobil heard another click and now the projection switched to the geographical display of the planet they now stood on. Several cities and military bases were highlighted in bright green.

“This planet does have impressive fortifications, but lacks planetary shielding and anti-orbital weaponry.” Pyke looked at Mobil and for a moment he saw a flicker of a smile cross the humans face. “If I were them after I swept aside the fleet defenses I would just bombard the planet until we were all not but ash and cinder.”

The projection shifted to display several enemy icons circling the planet and bombarding it from a safe distance. Mobil grimaced as he counted it would take 3-4 full rotations for an enemy fleet to successfully destroy every military presence on the planet without fear of retribution.

“Therefore as I have stated,” Pyke spoke as he turned off his disk device and the projection went back to orange, “there is no hope for saving this world, let alone this system; and so we are withdrawing our forces and pulling back.”

“More like running away.” One of the militia fighters mocked again, but was silenced by a sidelong glance from Mobil. To everyone’s surprise Pyke merely nodded.

“That would also be a correct assumption.” He said flatly, as if it was nothing more important that ordering a drink at a bar. “We will pull back until we find an advantageous position.”

Mobil was running out of gambits to play to keep the human forces on the planet. Seeing no other option he decided to wound the human’s pride and goad him into staying.

“With all the stories of humanity holding the line against impossible odds, I would have thought your people braver.”

Mobil heard several grunts of approval from his own people, but what he really needed was the reaction from the human.

Pyke shook his head and looked at Mobil with something akin to sadness.

“My people would love nothing more than to lay down their lives and become a hero,” Pyke said, “but the dead do not win battles, much less wars.”

I'd might be in my Soul Fighter brain rot and I just thought of something: Imagine Udyr as a competitor. Big guy, style switching, grappler maybe, he'd be cool. Riot, put him in Project L. Please.

A lot of champions would fit in the Soul Fighter esthetic and its super cool to imagine but i also fear Riot's bastardization of skinlines and i'll cut my finger and bet that soul fighter will come back next year/upcoming 6 months a bit out of place.

As for Udyr, he's cool :) as a soul fighter i'd wonder how they could fit the freljord gods into the aesthetic, i mean if they could make a literal dog look good, they can make anything look good. Could team up with Sett. Fist bros.

Me and my besties waiting for Project L specting Riot not to get into drama or saying that its going to take a lot of years like the MMO
