Finished rewatching Nancy Drew season 1!
Nancy's a bit harsh with Ryan in the beginning when she learns he's her dad. Firstly, she's Nancy so she doesn't like people trying to get close to her and Ryan isn't giving her any space at all. Secondly, she's ashamed of being related to him. She has no problem being Lucy's daughter, because she's the sad girl who was bullied to her death, but Ryan? Yikes, obviously. Ryan's obviously delusional thinking a daughter would've saved his life and made him a better person, or someone who can stand up to his daddy. He wouldn't have been happy to learn Lucy's was pregnant and who knows what he would've done? Run away? To his credit, Nancy is the reason he becomes a better person later. But he also doesn't know being a father means you shouldn't be petty with your daughter, which he is after he saves her from Everett at his cabin (he's like "oh you can't be my daughter...unless you need my help").
George is a mixed bag for me. She irritates me very often but I also have a lot of affection for her. Her confrontation with Ryan wasn't great though. The writing just didn't feel natural. I think she literally quotes Kelly Clarkson's "Because of You" lyrics at one point or two. She told Nick that Ryan taught her she was the girl you hid not the one you took to dinner? Is this the 50s. I get the idea of George realizing she was taken advantage of and confronting her abuser but the dialogue was not great (and a bit ironic given Nancy's affairs with older detectives...). I get George's reservations with Nick. I'm scared of intimacy as well. But I feel a bit for Nick. I think him and George made a good team, but Nick kind of needs someone more in tune with their emotions? He wants the kind of closeness that he didn't feel he had with either Nancy or George. I don't love his new partner though. So far we know nothing of interest about them - according to Bess, they're "exquisite" and have this awkward/cool vibe going for them, and look like someone who is famous on IG, which is not a vibe I care about, but nothing substancial yet.
Ace and Nancy get a lot of scenes together, alone (eg. when they visit Owen's apartment or Lucy's mom). Because George and Nick end up pairing up, Ace and Nancy naturally spend more time together, I think. And I think she likes that he rarely tries to stop her from doing anything, and he doesn't ask a lot of questions or tries to get close to her. He just helps her while giving her a lot of space, which is how Nancy naturally begins to rely on him and open up to him. For example, he tells her that life's been kicking her butt lately and that he's there if she needs help, but he doesn't ask if she's okay or if she wants to talk about it - which is why she's so grateful for his words. Compared to Nick, she's more comfortable that way. Owen also tried to help her too much sometimes, but he was more detached than Nick. I think Ace is kinda perfect for Nancy because he's useful to her. She gets very into her cases and the only way not to lose touch with her is to tag along and help her. If you hold her back, she'll push you away. But Ace is super helpful because he's a computer genius and he's used to her work methods. I think George, and to a lesser extent Bess, are like Ace in that way. I noticed Nancy's gotten pretty close to George.
Ace is unusually angry with her about their Aglaeca curse. They agreed to do the ritual with Nancy. She tried to talk them out of it. Their anger is natural but she's not to blame. If she was reckless, so were they.
Did Nancy really care that much about Owen and/or was his death particularly traumatizing because everything was going wrong that week and he died because of her?
Also, I feel for Bess. She wants so much to be a Marvin and her aunt is an intimidating and dangerous woman that she knows she can't cross, so she ends up putting her relationship with Lisbeth on the line while also losing herself in the process. At the same time, I want to tell her to grow a backbone and not pander to a bunch of assholes.

We all agree that Nancy reacted so strongly to Tristan's near death because of her luck with past love interests right? Owen with the Joshua Dodd fishhooks, Ace with the 7-times-great-aunt death curse, (stretching it a little with) the aglaeca curse for both nick and ace etc etc. Like. That's the reason right? riGHt

Okay, but Owen Marvin was done dirty
There was literally no reason for him to be murdered. J Dodd and Nancy solved their issues in a single conversation. It’s ridiculous!

So I just picked up on something hilarious on my Nancy Drew rewatch
This conversation takes place when Bess, George, and Owen are researching the Aglaeca… By whom George gets possessed eight episodes later and has to share a body with for the remainder of season 2

Nancy Drew, 1x11 – The Phantom of Bonny Scot
Just out of curiosity (and I know I could looking this up) was the actor who played Ace also finishing up another job?  I know sometimes actor’s who play main characters might, occasionally, disappear for an episode or two; but usually not during the first season.
Nancy has a dream that shows that she clearly is unsure of her feelings for Owen and Nick.  At least, it’s clear she feels something for Owen; but she’s either not quite ready to face that her feelings for Nick have changed or feels guilt that they have changed.  However, it doesn’t matter as there’s suddenly a loud pounding sound coming from the crawl space under the stairs.  Nancy investigates, there’s a jump scare with Lucy, and Nancy wakes up.
Assuming Lucy isn’t actually interested in Nancy’s love life, Nancy goes downstairs and starts to rummage through the items under the crawl space.  There she finds some of her mother’s old files from when she worked at the school as a guidance counselor.  Unsurprisingly, one of those files is Lucy’s; but it’s empty.  Scratch that, someone has purposely removed the papers from the file as there are fragments of torn paper left behind.
Nancy goes to visit Carson in jail.  Nancy immediately starts apologizing and telling him she’ll show that he isn’t guilty; but he’s more concerned with how she’s doing.  Nancy tells Carson about the file and asks if he knew why it was empty. Carson says he doesn’t as Nancy’s mom was very careful with her paperwork.  And while Carson could be a good actor, it does seem like generally he’s surprised about the folder being empty.  We learn after that Carson and his wife did share an office at home.  What’s more, Everett Hudson did stop by the house, which means he could have taken the papers.  But he would have destroyed them (which, I mean, he literally has stolen treasure kept in semi-secure areas; so I wouldn’t be so sure about that). Anyway, Carson wants Nancy to leave this alone.  Nancy says she will if he fights this.  They go back and forth. Scene ends.
Nancy goes to The Claw and finds Bess out front.  Bess in excited/panicking because she’s been invited to have lunch with Aunt Diana that day. Meanwhile, George finds out the owners of The Claw are going to put the restaurant on the market as, mostly, the restaurant isn’t doing well.  Outside, Nick is meeting with his court ordered counselor.  It turns out it’s their last meeting.  We also find out that Nick has been avoiding his parents, who are in Florida, since his time in prison.
Nancy goes to meet with Everette Hudson.  She wants him to place a phone call to a judge and let him know what the money Carson was paid was actually for, as that is one of the main reasons he’s being held (still, wouldn’t explain the fingerprints Nancy).  She knows he’ll want someone in return.  Everett basically wants Nancy to stop Owen from “falsely claiming” his family had anything to do with the Bonny Scot sinking or that that they have any of the treasures.  Or rather, he wants Nancy to do the job Carson normally would do; find out what evidence Owen has.
As Nancy is about to leave the house, however, Lucy leads her upstairs.  There she finds a picture and there’s water leaking at the base of it. But here’s the interesting thing about the photo.  It’s a portrait of Everette, Celia, and Ryan.  The funny thing is, there is a huge gap between the parents and Ryan; almost as if there should be a person in between them.  Sure enough, we see Dead Lucy in the painting for a moment.  It means that probably somebody has been removed, but who?
Meanwhile, Bess shows Lisbeth her home and tells her more about herself.  We find out she came to the US to be an Au Pair; but was fired for steeling.  She can’t go back to London, but her Visa is expired.  She’s hoping the Marvin’s can help her get a Green Card.  But here’s the thing, if her mother is still a US Citizen and they can prove that her mother is a citizen; she wouldn’t need a Green Card. I mean, it’s still proving the mother’s citizen status and that Bess is her daughter (and probably the wonderful questions of why the mother didn’t report the birth to the US Embassy).  I’m probably thinking about this too much.
Back at The Claw, George has called Ryan over to ask for his help.  If he will front the money for The Claw, George is sure that she can get the business running with a profit again.  Ryan asks why George doesn’t just go work somewhere else…well, it seems like the town isn’t exactly a fan of George’s family.  Ryan, in the end, tells George he can’t because of what’s he’s got going on with his family.
In the locker room, Nancy and Bess talk about the impending lunch.  Long story short, Nancy wonders if Owen will be at the lunch.  Nancy tells Bess what Everette wants her to do. Now, Nancy isn’t planning on selling out Owen; but she hopes that she can get some leverage if Everette thinks she’s willing to do so.  Bess is able to let Nancy know where Owen is.  Nancy tries calling him one more time.  As she sees him reject her call; she and Bess fallow him in Nancy’s car.
It turns out Owen has been avoiding Nancy because he’s been investigating the Bonny Scot and he’s found a survivor.  Someone he was just about to meet with at the survivor’s apartment.  The man was a stowaway (although he was probably a teenage at the time).  He had paid one of the crew members to allow him to hide on the boat, so he could come to America.  It was easy to hide, because the treasure never made it into the shipping containers on the boat.  The reason this person, Bashiir, survived is because he happened to sneak above deck one night.  When he was on deck, a bomb went off below deck.  Then he made it to a life raft and when he was picked up by a fishing crew. He told them to drop him off where the boat was supposed to go.  Of course, he didn’t tell anyone the truth because…well, he’s an undocumented Somalian and there is a good chance that he would immediately be viewed as a suspect. Bess and Owen suggest that, if there was someone who would help with his immigration status, then he could come forward in return.  Understandably, he’s afraid as there’s a lot of risk involved here (and, let’s face it, it is extremely unlikely that his story would be believed at this point). Nancy sees water trickling down his walls and asks how his apartment got the water stains.  At which point, the man asks them to leave.
Bess, of course, wants to help him as she does understand not wanting to be forced to leave.  And on that note, she goes to the lunch with Diana. Nancy and Owen talk.  Owen didn’t tell Nancy about the man because of what’s she’s been dealing with recently.  It also seems to be foreshadowing that Owen isn’t going to be in Nancy’s life for the long run.
Back at The Claw, George opens up to Nick about why this place means so much to her.  Basically, it’s been more of a home to George then her actual home.  Nick suggests a party to remind the locals of why The Claw is such a big deal.  He even offers to help for free.  As much as these two characters are hanging out together, I’m guessing they’re going to hook up at some point?
The lunch with Diana seems to be going well.  Diana wants to bring Bess into the family business and hopes that this young heiress they know will kind of mentor Bess.  Well, there is one issue…maybe.  They don’t mind Bess having fun with Lisbeth, but it can’t be more then that.  Of course, they also think Lisbeth it just a driver; so opinions might change if the truth is known.  Anyway, they want Bess to come to dinner tomorrow night.
Back at The Claw, oh wow, they’re having the party so soon?  Um, gee, it would be better to give time for promotions, don’t you think?  Uh, so George convinces Nick to add his name to one of the undersides of a table (it’s a thing) and they seem to be getting close; when Nancy walks in.  George goes elsewhere and Nancy has a talk with Nick.  Nancy feels like she’s a bad person because, while she isn’t going to turn over the witness to Everett, she has thought about doing so.  Even if she could hide his identity, it would mean Everett gets away with killing twelve people.  Nick lets her know that, if Nancy were a bad person, she wouldn’t be having these thoughts.  Nancy also tells him about the water damage in the apartment.  The thing is, the water is salt water; which seems like a Lucy thing.  But it couldn’t be…unless it’s those who died on the ship.  Nancy flashes to a clock in the apartment, which seems to have stopped at a specific time.  Nancy says that she and Nick should go visit him.  Which Nick agrees to.  Of course, this means he just abandoned George to get ready for the party.
They go to the apartment and there is water running from under the doorway.  Nancy manages to break open the door and she hear the Bashiir screaming and just a wave of water comes rushing out.  But we see that part of the apartment is the Bonny Scot.  It turns out Bashiir did try to save the crew, but…the door on the boat must have been locked as nobody seems to be able to open it. Does this mean someone from the crew set the bomb and locked in the crew?  If so, they must have escaped somehow.
So, we find out that Bashiir has been haunted like this every night for three weeks.  Which means that this is happening because of the séance. Nick and Nancy are able to convince Bashiir that if he wants to do right be those who died, as well as stop the hauntings, then the best thing Bashiir can do is let the authorities know the truth. Bashiir wants to show Nancy and Nick something.  And now I’m lost.  It turns out to be a fragment of the bomb.  Which Bashiir said he used as a shield to protect himself from the fire when he broke out to escape the fire.  But earlier he said he was on the deck and he knew it was a bomb because he grew up during a war. So, did he go back inside to get the men or….? It’s the Dues ex Machina thing again.  He just so happens to have a piece of the bomb, but it doesn’t make sense that he would have it.  Unless this is supposed to be suspicious.
The next day, Nancy calls Ryan and she tells him about her deal with Everett.  Ryan doesn’t want to get involved, but it seems like Nancy isn’t really interested in Ryan.  See, Ryan was driven there by Lisbeth and it’s very clear by the look Nancy and Lisbeth give each other; Nancy wants Lisbeth to know something.  But, and I really have to ask this, if Lisbeth is working for the Hudson family why would Ryan even have this conversation within earshot of someone he thinks is loyal to his family?  After all, he’s not paying her.
At The Claw, Nick realizes that George has been up all night getting ready for the party.  Nick apologizes and George doesn’t want to hear it.  She accuses him of hiding behind other people’s projects…which is sort of true?  But at the same time, Tiffany was someone who cared about him and, of course, he’s going to want to deal with someone who may lead them to finding out what happened to her?
We’ve skipped to the dinner Bess was invited to.  It’s a meal between the Marvins and the Hudsons that is nothing more then a bitch fest with vague threats.  Suddenly, Nancy comes in and says she have business with Everett; she then announces to the room that Owen has found a survivor of the Bonny Scot.  Nancy and Everett go into his office to talk.  The families snipe at each other.  Celia says the insurance money would be a pittance compared to what they actually would have made; so, there’s no reason for them to destroy the ship. Diana suggests that maybe Everett wanted to kill Sabastian because he was screwing Celia.  Ryan is shocked and Bess is clearly cursing she ever took that DNA test.
Meanwhile, Nancy is with Everett.  She lets him know about all of the evidence.  Everett wonders what he can do to make this all go away.  Nancy says that Bashiir just wants a retirement package and a Green Card.  Everett says it can be done and he’ll also set up a new identity so Bashiir can’t be found.  Nancy hands over an account number and Evertt, who you’d think would be savvy enough to want an ounce of physical proof, just decides to immediately wire over 2 million to the account.  However, the account is a fake and Lisbeth is there to arrest him for the deaths of those on the Bonny Scot (Which, realistically, all you really have him on is impeding a police investigation.  Maybe insurance fraud if they’ve found some of the missing items.  But Everett wanting to hide Bashiir, while suspicious, isn’t concrete evidence that he had something to do with the bomb).
Anyway, Everett is arrested and Celia demands how he could let this happen.  Everett said he should have left when he found out about the affair. Meanwhile, in the confusion, Nancy goes back to the painting upstairs.  She feels around the corner and finds a hidden panel.  Inside, are her mother’s missing documents about Lucy.  (Knew he wouldn’t be smart enough to get rid of them). Nancy goes to her car and Owen catches up to her.  It turns out that Owen was in on the plan all along.  Good news, Owen is going to help Bashiir.  And then Nancy and Owen share their first kiss.  Owen asks if he can take her out, but Nancy refuses.
Back at the Hudson’s, Celia and Ryan are sitting outside while the police cart off several box from the house (also, there’s a maid cleaning inside, which…somehow I don’t think would be happening at that moment). Celia says Everett will be out soon, however Ryan tells her about the Grecian urn from the Bonny Scot.  It’s clear he’s trying to make some sort of threat but, honestly, seeing as how the family seems to be keeping a number of these treasures just lying around…I have a feeling the police will run into something sooner or later.  But let’s go with the threat.  Ryan is going to try to take control of the company.
At The Claw, the party is a hit.  Dawn, the owner, is impressed with what George has done.  Still, it isn’t enough to change Dawn’s mind.  In fact, she already has a buyer lined up.  At Bess’ camper, Bess and Lisbeth admit that they’re falling in love with each other.  Back at The Claw, we find out that Nick is the one who inquired about buying The Claw. The plan is Nick would go into partnership with George; fifty-fifty.  However, since George doesn’t have the money, Nick will loan her the money and, once The Claw is making money again, she can pay Nack back.
Nancy is talking to her Dad on the phone.  Nancy is hoping that, by stirring the hornets’ nest, she is forcing Carson to start defending himself in order to come back and keep Nancy safe.  Carson says that he’ll call his lawyer.  He can’t prove anything about Lucy.  But there are things about the Hudson’s he can use to leverage a plea deal for now.  Is Carson going to make is past the first season?  (This is rhetorical, I already know the answer).
I like how we see, at the end of the episode, that Nick is staying with Bashiir in order to see if the ghosts come back.  They do not. Which is great.  Now, how is Bashiir going to explain the water damage to the apartment manager again?
Meanwhile, Nancy is going through Lucy’s file.  Lucy says Celia is spreading rumors about her.  Lucy says that, if her mother finds out, she’ll kill her.  The thing is, Lucy sounds like she’s serious.  So, could Lucy’s mother be the killer?  (Most likely not.  But we have seven more episodes, so we have to drag this out somehow).
Meanwhile, Celia calls someone on a cell phone and let’s them know she wants Carson silenced permanently.  Then, Celia throughs the phone into the bay.  Well, at least there’s one smart criminal in this show.

Athena promises never again to bitch about the heat ever again.
Well, at least for the next few months.
The 126 firehouse is a lot nicer than she would have ever figured for Texas, slipping out of Buck's borrowed Jeep with a crack of her neck. It felt nice to cash in one of the many favors he owed her, and after cleaning it out (seriously Buck, is it too hard to vacuum the floor???) it had been a comfortable drive for an uncomfortable errand.
"Can I help you ma'am?" A man that can only be described as a mountain had come up without Athena noticing, and she flashed a smile before slipping off her sunglasses.
"I suppose you can -?"
"Name's Judd."
"Athena Grant, I'm here to speak with Mateo Chavez."
"Is he in trouble?" A woman who had been working under one of the fire truck got to her feet, wiping some oil off from her hands as she popped her gum.
"Ah no, he's not in trouble, I just need to speak with him." The other raised an eyebrow, and Judd just shrugged at her.
"Not every day Mateo gets a visitor from out of town, so yea I'm curious. Marjan by the way, nice to meet you."
Athena couldn't help but shake her head out of amusement.
"No need to go guard dog on me, I'm an LAPD officer if that helps."
"Well well, how fancy." Marjan chuckled, looking around for a moment before whistling for someone Athena couldn't see. It takes a moment before someone comes bounding over, and her heart aches at the familiar yet unfamiliar face brimming with curiosity and a smile that rounds the corner. For a moment she can see the reason she's here, and with some hair dye and a cocky grin, he'd be right there.
"Um, hi!" The man waves, and Athena gives him a soft smile.
"Hello Mateo, it's nice to finally meet you."
"You know me?" Mateo blinked in confusion, and Athena slipped on her officers mask after taking a controlled breath.
"I do. Would you mind accompanying me to my car, I have some news that's best in private." They all can see that Athena has shifted her body language, however slightly, and the smile on Mateo's face falters as he nods.
"We'll be right here okay? Call if you need anything." The warning in Marjani's words are clear, but Athena knows they only come from a place of love as she leads Mateo to the car, making sure he's within sight of the multiplying eyes.
"Is something wrong ma'am?" He's not always the best at picking up social cues, but he knows that this Athena isn't here for something good.
"Your cousin Marvin, I've known him since he was a young kid." Mateo smiles a little, wondering if Athena is the cop he'd mentioned when Marvin was just starting out his "life as a badass".
"He's pretty fun right? I mean, I know he's in jail and all, but he's just a really nice guy otherwise." Marvin may have been misguided, but he'd taken something big so Mateo could live a life on his terms, and as such he kept his cousin in high regard.
"I know dear..." Athena's face turned to one of sympathy, and Mateo feels ice crawling through his veins. "Which makes this next part hard, I'm afraid. Marvin passed away a few days ago after his bail was posted, and had left a note for me to tell you this in person."
"...w-what?"
All Mateo can hear right now is the blood pounding in his veins, whatever Athena is saying next lost in the static of his scrambled thoughts. He watches in almost slow motion as she pops open the trunk, pulling out a trunk that Mateo had bought Marvin years ago and setting it down with a loud thud. The noise seems to have cleared the static, and Mateo suddenly can't breathe, trying to force air down his lungs as Athena moves towards him with worry. She pauses when Cap suddenly comes from nowhere, Strand snapping one of his fingers.
"Hey hey hey hey, focus on my finger okay? Focus on it, and I want you to reach out and squeeze my other hand okay?"
Mateo gave a jerky nod. He can do this, he can do this.
Cap's hand is warm as Mateo grabs it, clinging like it's the only thing that helps the air go down his aching throat.
"You're doing great, you're doing just fine okay?"
Has Owen's teeth always been so white? Or is it the dread of realizing he got his cousin killed making him think they are?
He just wants to go lay down and forget about everything right now.
"What did you say to him?" A man who looks similar to the captain rounds on Athena with a glare, and the mountain man is right behind him with his arms crossed.
"His cousin recently passed, and asked that I let him know personally." Athena crossed her own arms, and the younger man winced.
"That's awful kind of ya to come all the way down here." Judd loosened his stance, clearing his throat and rubbing the back of his neck with one hand. "Would you like some coffee or somethin' ?"
"I'll take you up on that offer. Let me just put this back in my car." She motioned to the trunk at her feet, and there's a cough before she can lean down to grab it.
"I can take it." Mateo clears his throat, Owen stepping aside as he approached the container and knelt down, just staring at it with a slight frown. "I thought it was bigger..."
"Things always tend to be in our memories." Athena nodded, giving him a small smile when the firefighter glances up. "You know, he always had nice things to say about you."
"I'll get the coffee going, and TK why don't you make lunch?" A woman Athena hadn't seen before stepped in, and the younger Strand nods as he heads towards the kitchen. "Name's Tommy, nice to meet you Athena."
"Likewise."
While they're not the 118, of which their many exploits draw awe and laughter alike, the 126th has their own camaraderie Athena can't help but admire. Mateo is quiet for the most part, but occasionally smiles or chips in with his own part of a rescue, and Athena ends up watching them race out for a call, save Mateo who was asked to stay behind.
"Come on son, why don't you show me around Austin instead of moping by yourself. I could use the company." Athena offered her hand, the firefighter who had been sitting at the table looking like a kicked puppy glancing over before slipping off his seat and offering his arm.
"You like empanadas?"
"I'm not fussy, show me the way."
It may not have been the way she wanted to meet Marvin's cousin, but she was glad just the same to have at all.

*Contains Spoilers from 9-1-1 Lone Star 4x11*
Okay so I have some thoughts about this episode. So like the normal person I am I shall rant then to the internet (I have friends I swear).
- Okay first of all the pacing of this episode is like neurodivergent cocaine. It moved so fast. Oh well Marvin from those two episodes of 9-1-1 is Mateo’s cousin. He needs money. Mateo can’t get the money. Nancy somehow has 24,100 dollars to just spare (how do they all just have unlimited money). Marvin just fucking dies. Mateo gets drunk trips and knocks himself out on a coffee table and passes out and then boom sitcom. He wakes up and apparently burnt down a school. And apparently Judd is going to be a grandpa. 9-1-1 Lone Star is just 9-1-1 speed run.
- Next the sitcom. First of it was amazing. Great episode. Yet I haven’t seen anything about it. Kind of disappointing. Okay back to the analysis. First of all Mateo just talking to himself the whole time Is really funny. I know it like supposed to be two people but like I know there is only one actor. Next Everyone else’s role. Like everyone’s roles make sense. Marjan being the sister, Owen and Tommy being the aunt and Uncle, and Carlos being a cop, but why was TK a cop and Judd the Milk Man. And we’ll we’re talking about TK and Judd where did Judds Texas accent go? He still used like phrases he would use but the Texas was gone, but for some reason TK had a Texas accent. Did he still it from Judd? Do we need to call the coos. Also why did TK have a mustache? Also TK just breaking character. Throughout the whole interaction he’s just barley holding it together. I have questions about the whole thing. It was great but, what did I just watch.
- Okay lastly once again we have a great example of Owen being a good dad to everyone but TK. Like he actually listens to Mateo’s problems and tries to help. I swear Owen doesn’t actually see TK as his son.

Nancy Drew, Ep.1x10 – The Mark of the Poisoner’s Pearl
So, this is kind of the second episode in a row that is mostly filler.  Now, I will say it does a good job of tying back to the main storyline.  Like the mystery in the episode might be more of a side mystery, but because of it we learn more that is important to the main mystery.  At the same time, I wonder if having too many side stories might hurt the overall as I’m already seeing moments where they have to Dues ex Machina things in order to continue the story; which they might not have to do if they didn’t go off on this side quest.
The episode picks up two weeks after Carson’s arrest.  Nancy is being questioned by Carson’s attorney because Nancy will be called for questioning at his trial.  Nancy is upset with herself as it was her investigation that put her father in jail. The thing is, Nancy no longer believes he killed Lucy.  Carson isn’t making things easier as he refuses to explain anything about the evidence (probably in fear of the Hudson’s).  The lawyer asks Nancy if she knows why, but Nancy says she doesn’t.  Meanwhile, it seems Nancy has been hanging homemade ghost traps around the house.
Meanwhile at The Claw, it seems like Ace is coming back to work and they’re throwing a party. Everyone but Ace and Nancy are there. And they start to talk about Carson being arrested.  George mentions that Nancy is talking to Victoria about ways to bring back or trap a ghost. Bess wonders if Lucy is gone because they did, in fact, capture the killer and Nick points out Carson’s fingerprints were on the knife.  Nancy comes in, clearly forgetting that Ace is coming back.
Ace comes in and he and Nancy apologize to one another.  Ace asks how Nancy is, but then her phone rings.  Nancy answers it and it’s her toxicology friend.  According to him, Tiffany was killed by Actaea Pachypoda, or White Baneberry poison; which mimics a death by cardiac event.  It’s a new lead for Nancy, but with recent events….
And it’s pretty shitty the way people act.  It turns out The Claw has had an uptick in business, but only so people could gawk at Nancy.  Owen comes in and tries to talk to Nancy, but she brushes him off for now.  So, Owen talks to Bess.  It turns out, in fact, she and Owen are first cousins.  But then Owen tells her that they need to talk. Owen tells her he needs to coins so that he can put Everett Hudson behind bars.  Bess is worried about what she’s going to have to tell Owen.
However, Nick overhears and he comes to Bess’s aid by saying he accidentally destroyed the coins. Which, good for Nick.  But then his jealousy emerges and he starts to ask why Owen is really here.  Which, not so good for Nick.  Bess tries to calm the situation down, reminding the two that both of them do have the same goal.  If they want to take down the Hudson’s they need to work together and share information.
Meanwhile, Nancy is in the back and decides to look up baneberry poisoning.  She ends up finding an old case of baneberry being ruled a suicide. She brings up the photo in the article. Ace, who is behind/above her, asks what Nancy is doing.  Nancy is about to answer, when he clarifies that he’s curious of why she’s looking at a photo of his dad.
So, Ace takes Nancy to meet his father.  Nancy thinks it might be better to just tell the police, but Ace reminds her that she only has this information because she stole Tiffany’s blood.  We do find out that the reason why Ace’s father is no longer on the force is because he lost his hearing in the accident.  He also isn’t much of a people person now.
At the very least, Ace’s dad seems interested that Nancy wants to talk to him.  We find out that the case in question was from 2003.  A woman named Liza Ainslie was found near her car with a bottle of the poison.  It turns out Ace’s father, Captain Thom, believed the ruling of suicide was incorrect.  Nancy lets him know that Tiffany Hudson was killed by the same poison.  Captain Thom opens his computer and shows that he got an email the day before Liza died and then two more emails in the follow two years. He believes it was from the killer. Nancy says it must be a cypher. Captain Thom agrees, but he’s never been able to crack it. Nancy asks if they can try to decode it.  Which, I guess, Captain Thom decides what they hell as he gives her the computer.
Back at The Claw, Bess is surprised to see Ryan walk through the door.  Ryan, even more shockingly, is looking for George.  Ryan goes into George’s office and says he wanted to check on her as he heard her sister got kidnapped.  As that was a few weeks ago, George is wondering were Ryan was. Rehab, Ryan, it’s rehab.  Ryan is there because he wants to apologize.  But he’s interrupted by Bess who pretends to be getting something for the office.  Ryan’s just here to let George know that, if she needs anything, he’s here for her.  Right. He leaves the office and Bess pretends to find what she’s looking for.
Ryan leaves the building and Bess beelines to the table where Nick and Owen are working.  Bess has an idea of how to get an artifact from the Bonny Scot; ask Ryan Hudson.  Bess tells them that Ryan says he doesn’t want to be a Hudson anymore.  Owen says there’s no way Ryan would agree to help and he can’t just stop being a Hudson.  But Nick thinks there is one way.
Nancy, Ace, and Thom have been working on the Cypher for hours.  Nancy realizes that they’re coming at this the wrong way.  In the email there are two photos.  Both photos look very grainy.  Nancy overlaps the two pictures and sees the message that Liza will be killed in 12 hours.  Understandably, Thom is upset as he feels like he failed Liza.  Nancy argues that they might still be able to bring the killer to justice.  It seems like the killer interacted with Thom because he was considered the “hero of Horseshoe Bay;” something that people are calling Nancy now.  Nancy asks Ace to record a video of her, that she plans on uploading to this website that is dedicated to her.  And Nancy…really needs therapy.  She tells the world that she believes there is a serial poisoner and that she’s cracked their code.  She wants this person to prove how good they are, by going after a new victim…which is Nancy.
At the Yacht Club, Ryan is meeting with Owen, Nick, and Bess.  Long story short, Owen is willing to give Ryan 100% control of a hotel in return for any one of the other items that supposedly went down with the Bonny Scot. Ryan knows that, if he does this, he is helping them put his father in prison.  They’re pretty much banking that Ryan isn’t like his father.  Oh, and for some reason, they just let it slip that Bess is related to the Marvins (which, shouldn’t you tell the family first?).
Back at Nancy’s house, Nancy has found the second name of a victim.  However, it seems like Ace forgot to give her the obits.  But that doesn’t matter as something clearly breaks in Nancy’s house.  Nancy opens the door to find Owen standing there with one of her ghost traps.  Owen just decides to move past that and gives Nancy Egg Rolls.  Clearly an excuse to check on her because of the video.  But this doesn’t go any further because Nancy is emailed two pictures by the killer.
Nancy goes to The Claw, looking for the obituaries.  Turns out Ace only said he put them in Nancy’s bag so that she would eventually come find him.  When Nancy arrives, she find Ace with Bess and George and the obituaries spread on a table.  Nancy says she doesn’t need their help.  Ace realizes that the killer has contacted Nancy.  Nancy confirms this, but also lets them know that the killer has given her three hours to save someone named Claire and she can’t call the police. George points out that, seeing as she has only three hours, Nancy does need them.  Nancy starts to argue; but Ace is just like nope.  Anyway, they find the three victims and that they have a connection to an old high school that shut down around 2004.  Nancy runs off as I guess she’s realized something.
Ryan is meeting with Celia, letting her know he’s selling his house.  She wants to know what he’s going to do with the valuables in the….safes? Hang on, it sounds like the valuables are in the house.  So, the coins that were his were kept somewhere else (which why let your son have stolen treasure) but there are valuables kept in the house that he can’t sell for cash because why?  Anyway, Celia says she’ll send someone over to sort out the stuff.
At that point, Celia brings up the fact that Laura has woken up and hopes that the accident has made her put some perspective on her life.  Given Ryan’s look, I’m guessing if he’s beginning to wonder if his mother had something to do with the accident.
Meanwhile, Nancy believes she has figured out who the Clare is.  Nancy stays in her car as an officer checks out Clare’s property.  The officer tells Nancy that Clare doesn’t seem to be at home and nothing suggests anything is wrong.  The officer leaves and Nancy gets a video from the killer.  They have Claire.  However, since Nancy involved the cops, Nancy now has less time to save her. Nancy realizes that Claire is being held at the old high school.
Back at The Claw, Owen gets a call from Ryan.  Owen answers, as Bess listens in.  Ryan tells Owen that he’s thought about Owen’s offer and tells Owen it’s best to forget about the Bonny Scot.  Owen says that he’s not afraid of the Hudsons’.  Ryan counters by saying, “Neither was Laura Tandy.”  Ryan hangs up and then calls Celia.  He thanks her for sending the movers and asks when his father will be back in town.  As he’s asking, he pulls out a vase that clearly was from the Bonny Scot (and probably should have been locked up with the coins.  I really can’t figure out if the Deus Ex Machina in this scenario is the treasure or the multiple vaults).
Nancy arrives at the old high school and sneaks in.  She is followed by Ace, Nick, and George; as Nancy’s car really isn’t that hard to find. They all go into the gym and…I’m sorry, the building hasn’t been used in fifteen years, looks like it would fit in The Last of Us (from the outside anyway), but somehow still has the power turned on?! Anyway, the lights turn on and a game horn blares.  They all see the game clock and Nancy says they have twenty minutes to save Claire.  The group go further into the clearly not the same school (Sorry, but the outside shot shows a building that clearly needs to be condemned; while the inside looks newly painted but with a little dust and leaves sprinkled around).
As they go down the hall, Nancy realizes something has been dragged and whoever is dragging the object is most likely a woman who wears shoe size 7 or 7 and a half.  Nancy feels that this is too easy, but they continue on. Well, except for Ace.  Ace is left behind to call the cops if they don’t return after seventeen minutes.  Nancy goes into a room, where she finds Claire tied to a chair.  The doors shuts behind Nancy and some kind of electronic lock is engaged.  It happens around the building as well.  As Nancy starts to untie Claire, gas starts to pour from the vents.  (I, just, I’m sorry but this building has been vacant for years.  There’s no way no one looted the place for scrap. Do you know how much repair would have had to go into the building…).  Also, at this point, I’m guessing Claire is the murder.
Long story short, the gang is able to save Nancy (I’m not going into the details as it involves the building being in much better condition then it should have been in).  But, as Nick is trying to save Nancy, George thinks this is a perfect time to watch a movie (ok, it’s clearly a video showing how Pam was killed; still…).  Oh, hey, Claire; look at you being all serial killer-y.  But it does make Nick realize that if Claire is in the room with the poison, there has to be an antidote.  Which, of course, they find.  But not before Nancy almost dies.  But then is blasted back to life by Lucy (it’s a thing).  And, yes, we get the whole killer explaining the reasons for doing this, which skip. But one thing we do learn, well not learn as this was bound to happen, the killer is not responsible for Tiffany’s death.
And then we have bonding between friends and they wonder if Lucy came back with Nancy.  Yes, most of this episode was filler; however, we did find out what type of poison was used on Tiffany, that it’s hard to make, and that there’s an antidote.  Great, so all you have to do is round up all the scientist in the area.
Oh, Nancy is firmly put in the friend zone by Nick.
At the end of the episode, Nancy agrees to talk to her father and we see Lucy standing behind her. Nancy promises to find a way to get her father out of prison.
