I was thinking about writing a SCP x Poke hybrid au for Pokémon. It will be mainly for rr members (with ORAS Maxie and Archie tho, instead of the original ones) and Lusamine as well.

Premise: The (human) reader is a scientist that is tasked with conducting experiments on the hybrids/scps, to further understand their nature and make it easier for the foundation to contain them. With each time the reader visits them, they develop some sort of unhealthy attachment to the reader.

/key notes:

Euclid = Nature not understood, thus their behaviour is unpredictable.

Keter = Extermely dangerous to humans, owing to their aggression or lethal physiology and will cause breaches. They’re particularly hard to contain.

Apollyon = Cannot or impossible to contain and may cause a world ending event. If somehow contained, will cause more breaches than the Keter class.

Location: First rumoured to be in Kanto region, then retrieved from Johto region.

ok so I LOVE this question. im not sure how to explain it better than telling you about what exactly I'm drawing on from Spore 🤔 this got long winded tho so enjoy me waxing poetic about this critically divisive 2008 computer game

To set the tone, these are the titles you earn as you level up through Space Stage by playing and earning Badges

Commander, Commodore, Admiral, the Celebrated, the Renowned, the Great, the Legendary, All-Powerful, Ultimate Being, Omnipotent

Way to keep it humble! (sarcasm!!!)

This is a good example of what fascinates me about Space Stage in comparison to other Spore stages.

Space Stage is the most individualistic by a landslide, in a game which generally sets out to be about the progress of an entire species rather than an individual.

(Disclaimer that I'm writing this from the perspective of someone who plays on easy mode and cheats constantly. I think since the game allows me to do that it's worth talking about, though.^_^)

You spend the first two stages, Cell and Creature, controlling one member of your species. However, when you die, you begin controlling a new, freshly born representative of the species. It looks completely identical, but, presumably, your influence as the player has passed on to an entirely new being. That individual may have passed away, but the world marches on, with you the player acting in the place of natural selection, informed by the sacrifice.

This rebirth is inevitable, either when you lose your health or when you edit your species to be more fit to survive. The consequence of dying and evolving new traits is literally the same character animation. It all feels like part of the same progression towards the future of the entire species. This is echoed in your timeline, where each death of your avatar is marked as a bump in the road of the history of your species, preceeded and followed by progress. All a part of the learning experience.

Tribal and Civilization stage (sigh. my funny creature game is not immune to colonial propoganda) are similar in regards to how the player's influence is represented. You are no longer assigned a singular avatar, and you are no longer acting in the place of natural selection. Your species physical traits can no longer be edited. You are optimizing the form and function of a society rather than the anatomical form and function of an animal.

Player influence-- which consists of purchasing buildings and dictating foreign relations-- has no in-universe explanation at this point, besides perhaps the advertisements that implied the player to be the hand of God.

If a member of your species dies, in Tribal they can be replaced with someone identical (with a new name) at a cost, and in Civ, members of your society are only represented as mere ants which scurry in and out of the buildings and vehichles that the gameplay is actually concerned with. If your village or city is wiped out in a conflict, it is game over, and you must completely restart the Stage.

Individual death is no longer synonymous with progress, for species or society. It is moot, a nonentity. Barely, if at all, effecting gameplay unless it is dealt in massive quantities.

Then, you enter Space Stage.

Space Stage makes it very clear that YOU, the player, are a singular member of your species which has been chosen to pilot the first interstellar spaceship your civilization has created.

You're launched back into controlling a singular individual, but this individual has all of the power you held as a vague societal influence in Civ stage and more.

YOU are in charge of foreign relations. YOU schmooze unnamed representatives of creatures from other solar systems with bribes, trading, and favors. YOU choose who to go to war with, YOU fight their ships, YOU destroy their cities. YOU, PERSONALLY, place every single interstellar colony that your empire will benefit from. YOU terraform planets, and even customize them aesthetically to your liking at your whim.

And when you die in your little spaceship, a cutscene plays, showing your spaceship launching again on your homeworld. A textbox explains that advanced technology has allowed a copy of your memories to be placed into a clone of you, ready to pick up right where you left off.

Every other Stage of Spore is a story about a species and a society. Space Stage is about a singular, all-powerful person. One individual given all the power over life and death, alliance and war, benevolent and malevolent tampering of all kinds. And that individual is you, the player.

....of course, this is all just the background for Sydney Sporeplayer. Sporeplayer is essentially launched right back into creature stage because of G-Man tampering and taking away their spaceship, and so their journey would be suddenly having to reckon with how desperate for absolute control they are, and how that doesn't and didn't ever actually make them happy.

Something something mortality is painful but also makes life very meaningful....something something I analogize cheating and being afraid of losing at videogames to being afraid of mortality.....something something Syd learns to appreciate life and games and people and collaboration. Yee haw

to some of the dd18+ discord members this may be familiar information but...

so her mom is desertborn — given name victoria alaoui, killjoy name whatsername. she's born to tumbleweed parents in february 1987 & joins up with her crew (morning glory, radiation leak, pipe-bomb, janna jeopardy, hat trick, burnt sienna) when she's 12 and they're one of two kj gangs who end up claiming the paradise motel (before it becomes tcm's joint and is just a run-down formerly-fancy hotel; “motel” is a bit of a misnomer) as their “territory”.

her dad is cityborn. born in september 1987 as john westwood in a upper-middle-class family in the heart of batt city. he's on the science career path, interning as a junior geneticist in the better living labs, when he stumbles upon unethical better living industries experiments that are supposed to be top secret. so he defects, escapes to the zones, names himself vertigo jack, and finds his own crew (double dare, haruspex, shotgun cupid, midas touch, sol apollo), who welcomes him with open arms, and is one of two crews that shares claim over the paradise motel as their turf.

so.

the first time whatsername and vertigo jack meet, they’re 17 and 16 respectively; he trips over her bag in the lobby and basically knocks a bunch of her shit out of it, including some half-finished bracelets that now she has to completely redo. she yells at him, he yells back that she shouldn’t have just had her stuff in the middle of the hall if she didn’t want people to kick it, and eventually it comes to blows and they end up in a very petty fistfight.

they don’t get kicked out, because this isn’t a functioning establishment anymore, but they sure as hell can’t do that shit again, because both of their crews live in and hang out at the hotel, and are on decent terms with each other, but can’t do that if two of their rookies (kinda. newest members, even tho whatsername has been with her crew for about 5 years) are fighting each other. they do have to see each other all the time though, so they just have to hate each other civilly, which basically means hands-off but insults are free game.

so they go about having a very petty rivalry for a while until a few years later when a thunderstorm knocks the power out. at this point it’s about 2007 in my timeline and so the inner zones still have electricity (batt city shuts it off when they start really cracking down on killjoys/rebels in 2008-2010), and so the elevators would normally be working, and now aren’t. conveniently, both of them were in the elevator when it got stuck, so now they just have to stay in a tiny box with each other and only each other for company until the power comes back on. this is the turning point in their relationship where it starts moving from rivals -> friends, and then eventually from friends -> lovers.

she asks him out officially in 2011, when they’re both 24, and 9 months later they exchange commitment bands and start thinking about moving out on their own and maybe having a family eventually. whatsername really wanted kids, but wanted to wait until things got a little better in the world, and jack wasn’t super keen on wanting kids but did come around after a little while. unfortunately, though, things never really did get better with better living, and it became pretty clear that 2006 wasn’t coming back.

so they decide they don’t want to wait any more, and the girl is conceived in march of 2017. her dad never lives to see her.

he gets captured in a raid, taken back to batt city, and executed for treason. whatsername, now 8.5 months pregnant and about to be a single mom, cuts contact with her old crew and friends fully (though just out of how busy they’d been, it’s not like she’d been seeing or talking to them much for a while leading up to this), and buckles down in the warehouse they’d picked out as their home, that they were going to raise their baby in. her main priority is keeping her and her child safe.

the girl is born diana alaoui-westwood on november 22, 2017, and her mom handles everything herself — it’s too dangerous, in her mind, to reach out to anyone, with her husband gone and being so isolated in their warehouse in zone 4. jack had been so excited to meet his daughter — they have everything they need, from the nursery he prepared for her to the baby supplies they’d been carefully saving for to get at tommy’s, at their old hangout-turned-storefront.

two months later, there’s a bli sweep of the outer zones, and dracs surround their warehouse, so the girl’s mom tucks her into her bassinet, kisses her goodbye, and gears up for the last time. she dies defending their home from dracs, but she did what she set out to do: the dracs don’t search the warehouse. the girl is safe.

the witch is watching over her, so three days later, when fun ghoul finds her, she’s dehydrated and distressed but mostly okay.

years later, when she’s 17 or so, the girl runs into someone at the zone 5 market — an old crewmate of her mom’s, the only left surviving member of their old crew, morning glory. it’s her first time meeting someone who actually knew her parents, and she keeps the photo glory gives her — whatsername and vertigo jack, both 24 years old and sitting on the old pool table in the paradise motel, surrounded by friends — in her pocket from that day forward. she takes it out sometimes to look at it.

some important hcs:

- this is the early to mid 2000s, killjoy culture is reflective of that; whatsername during her teens and early twenties is EXTREMELY scene, and likewise vertigo jack is EXTREMELY emo

- vertigo jack’s favorite zones band was We Hate the Zone Five Rockpile, the best fucking emo pop punk band to ever grace the desert. this is a trait he would pass on to his daughter, though the girl never knew that about herself

- when they’re in their mid-to-late twenties is when those phases end (at least fashion-wise. emo and scene are forever), and whatsername goes back to her natural hair color, un-hairsprayed and un-flatironed, though she keeps a couple lavender streaks because she loved that part of the look. she keeps her killjoy mask, jacket, and gun, but her style tones down SLIGHTLY. she still wears bright prints and impractical amounts of leather and layers for the desert, but it’s more of a sleek silhouette now — leopard-print tight-fit top with leather leggings and ankle booties kinda vibe. (please keep in mind it’s like 2012-2014 at this point). and jack is kind of like. picture a college history professor who’s pretty young and a little punky still. he shaves his head to stop having to deal with the completely fried-to-hell fringe he used to straighten every day and starts wearing button ups and sweater vests but with jeans and wallet chains and docs, and he starts wearing his glasses again because even though his teenage self dubbed them “dorky”, he does, in fact, need them to see properly. it’s certainly a Look.

- jack likes reading and classical music & leans back into that in his late twenties after having rejected that style of music and his favorite kinds of books and thrown himself into harder music & comics & zines and the like when he got to the zones to try and distance himself from the city. in their warehouse, he had an armchair and a few vinyls of mozart and handel and he’d sit there and read classic literature like some kind of fucked up post-apocalyptic grandpa sitting room. after he passed, before she ended up following, whatsername would put on those records again, so she could pretend he was just in the other room, still, reading in his armchair to sonata for two pianos

I am so excited to talk about this.

Not because of the context, but because this is one of the reasons I love wrestling so much; there’s so much that goes on behind the scenes that people have NO CLUE about.

There have been several professional wrestlers who have killed people or been killed themselves and the rabbit hole goes deep.

(Rey Mysterio accidentally killed a man on live tv and they still have the video up on YouTube.)

(Jimmy ‘Superfly’ Snuka murdered his girlfriend in May of 1983. Who is Jimmy Snuka? Jimmy Snuka was related to The Rock, Rikishi, and The Uso’s.)

THERE ARE SO MANY MORE THO.

But today, I want to talk about the Daddy of them all, Chris Benoit.

Chris Benoit’s crimes are so heinous and unforgivable Vince McMahon has swept his name under the rug and removed him from The Hall of Fame.

Benoit’s crimes also changed the dynamic of professional wrestling forever.

Chris Benoit was born in Montreal, Quebec to Michael and Margaret Benoit on May 21, 1967. He and his family resided in Edmonton, Alberta, however.

During Benoit’s childhood, he idolized Tom “Dynamite Kid” Billington (a British wrestler who competed in the 1980’s and had ongoing feuds with Hart) and Bret “Hitman” Hart (a Canadian-American wrestler and a member of the notorious Hart Family. He is a personal fave of mine as well).

When Benoit was 12 years old, he attended a local wrestling event where both Dynamite Kid and Hart were competing and he knew right then and there that he was destined to become a wrestler.

He trained in The Hart Family “dungeon” and was coached by none other than Stu Hart (Bret and Owen Hart’s father. If you don’t know Owen Hart, you should google him as well because he died under bizarre circumstances on live tv as well.)

When Benoit fought in the ring, he channeled both Dynamite Kid and Hart, even adopting Hart’s signature move, “Sharpshooter” as his finishing move.

Chris began wrestling in 1985 in Stu Hart’s Stampede Wrestling promotion. He was quickly recognized as a force to be reckoned with and received his first title, the Stampede British Commonwealth Mid-Heavyweight Championship, on March 18, 1988.

(This dude has a very extensive history or wrestling in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, World Champion Wrestling, Extreme Champion Wrestling, and World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment, but I just.. I cain’t get into all that, please forgive me. Haha! We are talking 22 years here! So I am humbly skipping to his family life.)

-Okay, so. I would love for this to be a romantic love story for the ages and the deaths resulted in crimes of passion, but that didn’t happen. At. All. Not at all.

You’ll see soon why this was all brushed under the rug.-

Benoit was married twice.

His first wife, Martina, and he had two children David (who is a wrestler as well) and Megan. By 1997, their marriage had broken down and Benoit and Martina decided it was best to end it.

Benoit began living with his girlfriend, Nancy Sullivan, who was the girlfriend of Benoit’s frequent opponent, Kevin Sullivan.

(It started off as an on-screen relationship for views and it led to a real-life affair. Many people joke that Kevin Sullivan booked his own divorce.)

On February 25, 2000, Benoit and Nancy’s son, Daniel, was born.

On November 23, 2000, Benoit and Nancy were married.

This 👏🏼 was 👏🏼 not 👏🏼 a 👏🏼 good 👏🏼 marriage.

In 2003, Nancy filed for divorce from Benoit, saying he would break and throw furniture and was cruel to her. She later dropped the suit as well as the restraining order she had set against him.

Benoit became good friends with fellow wrestler Eddie Guerrero, (a beloved and incredible wrestler, one of my dad’s faves), following a match in Japan, when Benoit kicked Guerrero in the head and knocked him out cold. This started a friendship that lasted even after Guerrero's death in late 2005, in which Benoit had written diary entries to him just ten days after his passing.

(I’m only mentioning this because Guerrero’s death has been rumored to be one of the reasons Benoit did what he did.)

Here’s where it gets gory.

So we know Benoit and Nancy did not have a good marriage, but things seemed to be okay because she dropped all the charges against him.

Benoit and Nancy were living in Fayetteville, GA, with 7 year old Daniel.

On June 25, 2007, police entered the Benoit home after Benoit’s WWE employers requested a welfare check after Benoit missed weekend events without notice.

(Benoit was actually scheduled to win another title during these weekend events.)

Upon arriving at his Georgia home, authorities found Nancy wrapped in a towel. She had died from asphyxiation.

Their son was also found, also dead, apparently strangled. Benoit placed a Bible next to each of their bodies.

Benoit’s body was the most disturbing to be found. The wrestler was hanged on a lat pulldown machine, with a Bible lying on the weight machine beside him. There were also allegedly 10 empty beer cans and an empty bottle of wine.

Autopsies concluded the murders and suicide took place over the course of three days.

On Friday, June 22, Chris Benoit killed his wife Nancy in an upstairs bedroom. Her limbs were bound, and her body was wrapped in a towel. A copy of the bible was left by her body. Injuries indicated that Benoit had pressed a knee into her back while pulling on a cord around her neck, causing strangulation. Officials said that there were no signs of immediate struggle. Toxicologists did find alcohol in her system, but they were unable to determine if she had been drinking prior to her death or if it was a product of decomposition.

Daniel was suffocated and killed in his bedroom, and a copy of the bible was left by his body. Daniel had internal injuries to the throat area, showing no bruises. Daniel's exact time of death is unknown. The reports determined Daniel was sedated with Xanax and likely unconscious when he was killed. Daniel's body had also just started to show signs of decomposition but was not as far along as his mother's body, so they were able to determine he was murdered after his mother.

(It was later alleged that Daniel had Fragile X syndrome, a genetic disorder that is characterized by mild to moderate intellectual disability. Physical features may include a long and narrow face, large ears, flexible fingers, and large testicles. About a third of those affected have features of autism such as problems with social interactions and delayed speech. Males are affected more than females. Daniel also had needle marks in his arm and it’s alleged that these were the result of growth hormones given to him because Benoit and his family considered him to be undersized.)

Chris Benoit committed suicide by hanging. Benoit used a weight machine cord to hang himself by creating a noose from the end of the cord on a pull-down machine from which the bar had been removed. Benoit released the weights, causing his strangulation. Benoit was found hanging from the pulley cable.

(On a podcast called The Talk is Jericho in 2016, Nancy’s sister Sandra Toffoloni divulged some more information. She said Benoit’s internet search history showed he had searched “the quickest and easiest way to break a neck”. Benoit had a towel wrapped around his neck when he committed suicide and his neck was broken instantly.)

A suicide note was not discovered, but a note written in one of the bibles Benoit had said, “I’m preparing to leave this Earth.”

A few possible motives I’ve seen people mention have included:

•CTE - Chronic traumatic encephalopathy is a neurodegenerative disease caused by repeated head injuries. Symptoms do not typically begin until years after the injuries and can include behavioral problems, mood problems, and problems with thinking. During his autopsy, it was concluded that Benoit did suffer from CTE after wrestling for so many years. (Back when they threw people from tops of cages, hit each other over the head with chairs and ladders, etc.) Autopsy experts say Benoit’s brain was so severely damaged that it resembled a 85 year old Alzheimer’s patient.

•Nancy’s abuse and filing for divorce - In February 2008, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Benoit was having an affair with a female WWE wrestler and Nancy found out. It was also speculated they argued over life insurance policies.

•Benoit’s alcohol abuse - Benoit abused steroids, but many people believe it was his alcohol abuse that led to these horrific murders. Many of Benoit’s colleagues attested he would drink more when problems with Nancy occurred.

•Eddie Guerrero’s death - Benoit and Guerrero and Benoit were very close. When it came out that Guerrero has died in his hotel room in November of 2005, Benoit was devastated. WWE held a televised memorial for Guerrero and when Benoit was giving his testimony, he broke down in front of the camera. Some of Benoit’s colleagues say, “he was never the same” after Guerrero’s death.

But at the expense of sounding completely heartless, (mind you, I’ve been suicidal myself), why didn’t he just commit suicide?

Why did he have to murder his wife and seven year old son? If we go with the CTE theory, it makes sense because he was not thinking rationally.

I wish Nancy had had the strength to leave him when she tried.

The night after Benoit’s body was found, WWE Raw had a televised memorial for him and his family with Vince McMahon standing in the middle of the ring breaking the news and a video montage.

No one knew he was the one who had killed his family.

When it was later revealed that Benoit had committed these crimes the episode was removed and WWE made the decision to remove nearly all mention of Benoit from their website, future publications, video games, merchandise, DVD/Blu-Rays, and future events.

Like I said.. swept him under the rug.

Benoit is now the “He Who Shall Not Be Named” of professional wrestling.

In ending this, I’d like to quote Stone Cold Steve Austin now.

“Well first and foremost, what I think about Chris Benoit is that guy was one of the most nicest guys I ever met in my life. He’s one of the most talented, hard working cats I’d ever seen in the squared circle. Anybody who knew Chris would tell you those exact two things. That guy loved the damn wrestling business, he was born to be a wrestler and was absolutely phenomenal. Drawing a lot of his influence from The Dynamite Kid, he blazed a path as the Pegasus Kid and his legacy as The Crippler Chris Benoit was just one hellacious career.

Mr Miyagi and Samantha & Anthony headcanons

Since Cobra Kai tells us Miyagi died in 2011 (a rough seven years before the beginning of season 1), it leaves us with many opportunity to explore his relationship with Daniel’s kids, especially Sam, being the oldest. As stated by her Wiki Karate Kid page, she was born in 2002, making her 9 when Mr Miyagi passed away; plenty of times for them to know one another and interact. As for Anthony, I’m pretty sure he’s met him but being born in 2008 (if I trust the KK Wiki) that would leave him being 3 years old when Miyagi died so he probably would not remember him specifically aside from Daniel’s, Amanda’s or Sam’s tales.

(Which honestly, when I think about it, makes me kinda sad because that kid, although having such a rude attitude, seems left out and the fact that everybody have something to say about Miyagi and Anthony doesn’t... Well. You get me)

Anyway, here’s of a list of little things I headcanon between Miyagi and Daniel’s kids:

Knowing Daniel it wouldn’t surprise me if he told Miyagi he was going to be a father first before Lucille. Would not surprise me at all. And of course Miyagi would be ecstatic, the kind of ecstatic when Daniel takes the car and he screams ‘BANZAI” at him. But I feel he would be really emotional as well. After losing his father in The Karate Kid Part II, and said his farewell to Yukie, he truly has no one else in the world except Daniel. Daniel is like the son he should have had but didn’t because of the internment camp. So for Daniel to 1) Manage to get his way up to being his own boss with the dealership 2) Meet Amanda, a beautiful and brilliant woman with whom he’s serious and settles down and 3) Starts his own family with her, this would make Miyagi so proud and emotional because he’s a part of it, Daniel makes sure he’s a part of it.

Maybe Daniel freaks out sometimes during Amanda’s first pregnancy because he wants to be a good father and he doesn’t know for sure if he’ll be one since he didn’t have his father for long, and what if he’s not good enough. So Miyagi gently but firmly reassures him and gives a piece of wisdom. And some alcohol too.

MAYBE MIYAGI TEARS UP WHEN DANIEL PRESENTS SAM TO HIM

And MAYBE he’s at the hospital having driven Lucille from the airport, and MAYBE he waits patiently as Daniel paces and then goes to be in the room with Amanda and just waits with Lucille and MAYBE he stands up abruptly with Lucille when Daniel comes out and he’s grinning like a madman and he just says “I’m a father” like he can’t believe it and Lucille and Miyagi hugs him real tight.

Since Daniel has no siblings, that, until Louie Jr came to LA for a job at the dealership, his family lives on the opposite coast... Daniel asking Mr Miyagi to be Sam’s godfather. He’d probably be considered a grandfather but up until them there would have been no official link/ties between Miyagi and the LaRussos (not that they need any but you get my point) (though Daniel would probably ask Miyagi to be his wedding witness because you know he would lmao) and that’s another way for Daniel to show him just how much he loves him and considers him like a true member of his family.

For real tho, Miyagi would legit be so gentle, tearing up at seeing a little bundle in Daniel’s arms and he’s so happy to introduce his daughter to his father figure and it’s all very solemn and emotional before Miyagi cracks up a joke about Sam being as stubborn as his dad when she does whatever.

If you don’t think Miyagi would swear to protect little Samantha LaRusso until his dying breath, think again. He’d cherish and treasure her and yet still spreading his bits of wisdom when Daniel is too hot-headed to do so.

One time, when Daniel and Amanda have no solution, they drop Sam off to Miyagi’s and she spends the day with him. He shows her his garden, that has seen better days but is still pretty much alive and not as rusty as we see in Cobra Kai before the renovation. He tells her many funny tales about Daniel learning Karate and falling into the river, of being covered in green paint. And Sam’s listen, she has stars in her eyes (Sam may look like Amanda but she’s a LOT like Daniel). Miyagi shows her some basic movements like Wax On/Wax Off without the waxing cars part and Daniel is this close to be jealous of a five year old.

Sam being excited whenever she goes to Mr Miyagi’s or he comes around and she asks him many questions about Daniel, about karate, about Okinawa too, how it was like (since I’m pretty sure Daniel would already talk a lot about his trip to Okinawa, etc).

When Sam pouts Miyagi laughs because it really is Daniel’s spitted portrait. He always have a little hug for her though and sometimes a little sweet to comfort her.

She’s not too fond of fishing however from times to times she’ll go because she just wants to keep Miyagi company

When Daniel tells Miyagi Sam wants to do karate. That she wants to learn with her dad. Man’s legit the happiest crying mess on earth.

Daniel freaking out big time when Amanda’s expecting Anthony (I read it was apparently unplanned but I can’t remember when it was said in the show so I might be mistaken. Another good excuse to rewatch, eh :p).

Miyagi comforting all the freaking LaRussos during that pregnancy. Daniel who’s panicking a bit (lot), Sam who has your typical “what if they don’t love me anymore” and Miyagi taken her up in his arms saying NO ONE could ever stop loving her and that she’ll have a friend in Tony and that she’ll be able to teach him loads of stuff. But also Amanda. I NEED some Mr Miyagi & Amanda interactions.

Like even though Miyagi is a constant presence in Daniel’s life and is obviously very important to him and Sam that would still be Daniel’s world, something Amanda knows on the surface but not well. And I need a moment between Miyagi and Amanda when it’s heartfelt and touching and Miyagi opening on how she helps him find balance and how he’s really happy for the both of them and that it truly makes his old man’s heart soar to see Daniel, to see the closest to a son he has find happiness and stability and that’s thanks to Amanda. Also give me a lunch or dinner when Miyagi is invited and Daniel suggests something stupid and Amanda is “na nah” and Miyagi backs her like “Listen to wife, Daniel-san. Amanda very smart” and Daniel crosses his arms like a pouty child.

I’d like to think Anthony was named after Daniel’s father so, once again, Daniel’s a mess and Miyagi’s there with Lucille maybe other LaRussos.

Dealing with two mini LaRussos will be the death of Mr Miyagi he swears (even though he loves them with his life)

Sam coming in one day after she pestered Daniel to teach her some japanese word like (Konnichiwa or Samu desu, arigato, simple words you know), she’d be so proud to show him and he’d be really touched and smiling his tight-lipped smile and warmth in his gaze.

Sam helping Mr Miyagi to cook whenever he cooks a dish from Okinawa or from Japan. Sam being the best sous-chef anybody could hope for and being really focused and intense on the tasks Miyagi gives her and just him making her feel like a real pro and how he couldn’t have done it without her.

And his last year when he begins to get weak and can’t move as much as before, Sam always hugging for a bit longer every time. She doesn’t really grasp what really is to come but when Daniel makes him soup when he’s sick or when he comes back from an appointment at the hospital, Sam is always there to help and to bring it to him and make sure he drinks every drop with her little hope that he’ll get better.

When Miyagi dies, she’s as distraught as Daniel. She cries a lot, sometimes at random but she also cries because she sees just how sad her dad is.

That’s about when she stops doing karate altogether because it hurts too much and moves on, meeting Aisha and being passionate about physics with her

She has photographs of her and Miyagi, some with Anthony and Daniel and the whole family. She has them hidden into an old children’s book in her bedroom and there are times when she feels a bit down and she looks at the pictures and although she’s sad and misses Miyagi a lot, she remembers his kind words, his advices and his gentleness and she feels suddenly better and warm, as if Miyagi had just wrapped a blanket around a shoulder and given her some hot chocolate or tea.

Anthony knows about the pictures, found them by accident once when he wanted to read the book (before being introduced to video games) and sometimes, when Sam is not there and he goes in her room and looks at them trying to remember scenes, words, Mr Miyagi’s voice. He can’t, not really, just some faded images and sounds. It makes him sad in a way that he’s the only one that doesn’t really remember Miyagi but still, he feels a sort of comforting feeling whenever he looks at the pictures.

Anyway, just Mr Miyagi loving the hell out of Sam and Anthony and being there for all the LaRussos and being a comforting presence and thought and a positive influence on them

But Does It Taste Like Chicken: Cockpit Point & The Tale of Virginia’s Poultrygeist

Virginia’s tourism motto “Virginia is for lovers” can easily be expanded to encompass history, and as you drive through our state, you may idly wonder what happened at certain places. For example, why is there a Cockpit Point?

According to Prince William County Park & Recreation (encompassing Historic Preservation), Cockpit Point Civil War Park contains the only remaining Potomac River battery and from October 1861 to March 1862, the Confederate earthworks, four massive batteries and connecting trenches helped the soldiers succeed in diverting almost all shipping destined for Washington, D.C. Prince William County Historian Rob Orrison wrote a brilliant blog about the actual battle and continuing preservation efforts and you can find it here via the Emerging Civil War blog and/or watch a virtual tour here.

Although the HDVI archives thoroughly acknowledge the importance of this strategic site, they also contain an interesting paper regarding the lore of Cockpit Point pre-Civil War. Joshua Fry and Peter Jefferson identified “Cock Pitt Pt” above the Town of Dumfries in their 1755 Map “A map of the most inhabited part of Virginia containing the whole province of Maryland with part of Pensilvania, New Jersey and North Carolina.” According to J.P. Haynes, who presented a speech to HDVI on 05/05/1977 titled “Saga of Cockfighting at Cockpit Point”, people located an iron ring measuring about 12 feet in diameter with an iron 12-inch flange in 1914 giving more credence to the cockfighting lore. According to Mr. Haynes, Irish immigrant Gerr Shaw (aka Cockspur Shaw, Cockpit Shaw) infamously renowned throughout the Tidewater, held mighty and very popular cockfights at his riverside farms. Besides for his inability to refrain from illegally holding matches, he christened one of his most aggressive animals “Thunderbolt”, eventually earning the title Thunderbolt – Champ of the Patowmack”. Haynes stated, “Such became the reputation of the Champ that, when there was a thunderstorm with overmuch thunder, folks would proclaim, ‘The Champ’s on the loose again.’”

Cockfighting in Virginia was a popular form of entertainment. Ebenezer Hazard, the person who insulted Dumfries in his travel journey (related blog post here), recorded the practice in 1777 writing, “Horse-racing & Cock-fighting seem to be the principal Objects of Attention between Williamsburgh & Smithfield at present.” He later noted that Virginians were “…much addicted to Gaming, drinking, swearing, horse-racing, Cock-fighting, & most Kinds of Dissipation.” Cockfighting was popular pre-Civil War, especially towards the end of the 18th century as Mr. Hazard observed. Men bred their gamecocks to be aggressive and even strapped weapons onto the roosters, such as finely honed spurs. People used matches to conduct social and political business as well commonly meeting with friends and neighbors. Shaw purportedly penned “scrappy natured roosters” together and he placed any resultant chicks in special brooders until they showed aggressive behaviors – they then received additional observation. Thus “Thunderbolt” was born.

Officials condemned the fights and tried to prohibit and eliminate them, especially after the Revolutionary War when it was viewed as a crude connection to British practices and customs. Eventually, American society condemned the fights more widely as inhumane and the ASPCA along with other groups actively work to stop this illegal practice – spectating an event is illegal in 43 states and the District of Columbia.

Mr. Haynes concluded with the following, “It has been told, even today, if one should be strolling on the River shore on a moonless Sunday night in Spring, the ghost of Gerr Shaw may be seen at the site of the old cockpit, looking for Thunderbolt, his infamous Champ of the Patomack.”

Note: Mr. Haynes wrote both “Patowmack” and “Patomack” in his original 1977 speech. Archaeologists dated a Patawomeck settlement on the Potomac Creek to around 1300. Although English encroachment in Virginia started in the early 1600s, the English actively began patenting Patawomeck land in the 1650s. Due to various factors, including disease and dispersal, the English continued and eventually declared war on the tribe. The tribe received formal recognition from the state of Virginia in 2010 after a two-year battle to assert their identity, following decades of discrimination.

started in politics extreeeemely young. was interning from the age of 16 in whatever tiny office would take him and has had his sights set on advancing since the very beginning. ambition & ambition & ambition

he’s the face of the New Millenial. he’s young, he’s a poc, he’s very vocally gay, and he’s as left as they come. political analysts have said for years that he shouldn’t stand a chance bc of how isolating his politics are, but oliver has consistently inspired young ppl who previously didn’t give a shit about politics to come full throttle to the polls

became a democratic representative for cali’s 13th district in 2008 by completely targetting a young base and bringing a hella lotta passion into his politics. originally seen as a nobody who won based off pure luck but continuously proved himself and ended up getting reelected year after year

recently ran for senate in 2018 as an independent, saying that he felt his views were too radical to be put under the category of democrat (ie: bernie sanders and his stance as an independent!). some have labeled him as a member of the green party, others stick to “communist piece of shit”, but young people especially have fallen in love with his defiance against the system. in any case, it was enough to get him elected to senate this last year

he recently announced his bid for the presidency as an independent candidate and it’s caused a LOT of trouble. republicans hate it bc they abhor his radicalism and the fact that the young ppl are so goddamn smitten by him. democrats hate it bc they know third party candidates never work and that he’s only gonna end up taking away from democratic votes. it’s a mess but oliver can’t hear u over his chants of “change will come from the children!!” as tho he invented young ppl having a voice

used to be a pawn back when he first started out, but absolute power corrupts absolutely folks. he’s learned the hard way that being polite and legal about things doesn’t accomplish jack shit, and he’s been known to pull a “sheep in wolf’s clothing” where he puts on a nice face and gets u to trust him just to cut ur throat to get his foot in the door and be taken seriously 

his politics are very much based on “draining the swamp” but it’s come to the point that oliver’s really just as machiavellian and corrupt as the rest of them. he says it’s for the greater good, that oliver has to pass his bills and stay in power for The People because no one can serve them as well as he can, but it’s rlly just bs and he’s honestly lost most of the person he used to be. but that’s the biz, baby!

Le’s Homeland

My father’s side is fully Vietnamese 

My mother's side is mixed with Vietnamese and Cambodian.

My father’s side of the family is from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. My father moved to the United States with his side of the family in 1984. This included my grandfather, my grandmother, my father and his four other siblings. Now, as far as my mother, my siblings and I, we moved to the United States in 2008 after my parents got married and had my second youngest brother and I.

My father’s side of the family has lived in America the majority of their lives, my grandfather from my father’s side was a part of the Vietnam War back in 1970. Due to the fact that he was a part of the Vietnam war, they allowed him to migrate all of his children to the United States along with his wife in 1984. My father’s side of the family have definitely embraced to the American nationalism, they believe that all the politics is right, whenever they see the American flag, they are so proud to be a citizen of the United States of America. Although during the election of which Donald Trump has won for, they weren’t fully US Citizens yet, but they claimed they would have voted for him because they fully believe that he was capable of “making America great again”. On the other hand, My mother’s side of the family all live in Vietnam, due to her being my father’s wife, they allowed him to migrate her over into the United States as well. 

After migration, my aunts and uncles integrate their American identity with their ethnic identity through their daily lives. For example, this past weekend, we went to my cousin’s wedding. Traditionally, before every wedding we hold a “Tea Ceremony” the morning of the wedding. This event symbolizes the new “member” to both sides of the bride and groom and also serves “tea” to thank both sides' parents. My father’s side of the family participated in the Tea ceremony because the bride is from my father’s side of the family. Now for their American identity, we had a wedding back in June in which my cousin from my father side as well, my cousin Tina, married a caucasian man. Due to the fact she married a caucasian man, she didn’t host a ceremony because she followed the American trend therefore, my parents only went to the wedding. Although they are one identity, they merge their American and Ethnic identity through their daily lives and the American trends that is currently trending. 

This is my grandmother from my mother's side, she has raised my mother to become the best version of a mother even through the darkest days of her life when she was first pregnant. Due to the fact that my grandmother got pregnant before marriage, she for sure had to teach my mother the girl’s culture from our homeland. Both of my parents raised me in Baltimore, Maryland in their traditional Vietnamese household. I was born in Can Tho, Vietnam and lived there for 4 years of age. In our traditional Vietnamese household, we carry a list full of policies. Starting with myself, as a Asian girl, Vietnamese to be exact, there are certain standards you have to follow. One of our biggest policies is that you may not have a child until you are married. Now, with this being said, I do stand by this rule even after four of my cousins giving birth before marriage. Reason being, outsiders will talk down on you and your mother for not being taught right. The proper term for this is “An Com Truoc Keng”. This is by far one of the most important factors because it elevates a girl’s dignity in our culture.

Lunar New Year is technically the only Lunar New Year we really celebrate.. In our household, January 1st is just another day in our lives. I mean we celebrate at parties, family reunions but that is really just memories and laughter. The picture above is our TET traditional clothing, TET is also known as Lunar New Year, it does not have a specific day. It falls on a different month every year, traditionally, every year we have an “animal” which represents the year. Our most important animal is the water buffalo which was actually the animal for 2021. It is very important to the culture and history because it symbolizes bravery, happiness and propensity. TET is celebrated with money, new clothing, the lion dance and as well as freshly cooked desserts that allow us to feed our ancestors that do not get a chance to celebrate the holidays with us. The freshly cooked desserts are one of the most important factors in this holiday because it symbolizes the “request” that we have as we walk into another year. The request is us asking our ancestors to allow us to walk into the new year with many new blessings and open doors to welcome in new money. 

Follow up with the picture below, it is a picture of our red envelopes that we receive every Lunar New Year with money inside. This envelope symbolizes good luck. The color red is the only color that is allowed to be used during the holiday because it represents happiness, good luck and energy. 

The results from this exercise have definitely affected my personal view on ethnicity and nationalism because every ethnicity has their own policies and lives based on their ethnic. In our daily lives today in America, it doesn’t matter how you carry your kids, kids starting at the age of even 14 years old will go on and get pregnant with their “boyfriend”, it also doesn’t matter how you do things, or how you live your daily life. Learning more in depth about my culture today showed me that the policies in my culture is very strict.

not so strong about this one but Saikai no Hana is a p gr8 song and I’ve heard like 3 different versions of it and they’re all amazing and since they changed some of the songs performed at this live it would have been interesting to hear this one too

New Sodmy (tbh I never liked this band much the style just wasn’t my thing)

no Are You Sodmy (this song is trashy af but I love it because Kamijo says fuck me just sign me up for that)

Versailles

no Destiny the Lovers (this song is just (╬ಠ益ಠ) come on if anything just to see Yuki going nuts on those drums + also the bass solo is legit the nicest thing I have ever heard)

I would have loved either ver of Love will be born again. tbh I feel like there should have been at least 1 tribute to Jasmine You ffs Kamijo cried when talking about him in the 2007-2016 documentary so you KNOW he cares (also Hizaki crying when playing Faith & Decision just come on m8)

Ascendead Master and Aristocrat’s Symphony are fab don’t get me wrong (Aristocrat’s Symphony was the first Versailles song I ever heard so it’s very special to me) but God Palace? rlly? why God Palace? there are five thousand better Versailles songs you could have picked. (no offense I love every Versailles song but God Palace is one my least favs) honestly any other song from Jubilee would have been better

I also would have loved to have heard Princess again (dat bass solo man and also I just associate this song with Jasmine You as well)

Kamijo solos

no Louis enketsu no la vie en rose (jfc) - tbh I have heard 2 of Kamijo’s solos, this and Sonata, because once Versailles split I kinda moved on from jrock. I still to this day have not heard a single Jupiter song. But I’m really fond of Louis and was pretty disappointed it wasn’t performed. 

Things I DID like: 

Metamorphose. It was the first Lareine song I ever heard so it’s also special to me. Hearing it with Kamijo’s new voice was just aaaaaa I was so emotional listening to it

The fact that Kamijio got Emiru, Mayu, and Machi to perform with him. I was legit so happy to see them I was crying honestly (also they are looking FINE they have not aged a day, same as Kamijo) Emiru was as kawaii as ever with his fuckin weird pink hat with flowers. love that

how happy they all were to be there they all just kept smiling and waving and aaaaaaaa my heart I can’t handle this

sabine: hello and welcome to very first episode of blonde and bubbly! i’m sabine al-masri and i’m here with my lovely cohost, business partner, and beautiful fellow blonde madison ware.

madi: hi everyone! Like Sabine just said, I’m madison and i’m so excited to be here today and chat with you guys today! For the very first episode of our new podcast we’re going to do a little recap of everything that happened to past year on the show, to celebrate the one year anniversary of the reboot! 

sabine: so since i have only been here since june, madi will cover the first half of the hills and i will cover the second, so madi, the floor is yours. also, today’s podcast is sponsored by veuve clicquot, madi and i will be opening and drinking a nice bottle of 2008 vintage brut rose on today’s airing.

madi: thank you peach! so when the reboot of the show started back in november 2016, there was a completely different atmosphere if i can say so. A lot of the first cast members left, i think there less than ten original members left? Kazi got with Mia in december and Finn was with a girl named Kate. The first couple of the show were Brenda and Miguel, i cant exactly remember if they got together at her iconic birthday party or not. Miguel was such a funny guy, he always had jokes and was nice to see on the timeline. They’re both parents now. A few weeks later came Sonny, Quentin and Noemi, some of the most appreciated cast members here. Then Sawyer,Sabrina, Xavier and Thomas. Thomas and I rapidly got close and became best friends, although people always said we had a thing and were dating, which was not true. we were also in a sorta triangle love type of thing. at the time i was helping a friend, named kai, who needed a fake girlfriend. so of course i said id do it and pretend to be with him and all. but i was very close to thomas, and everyone could see it. they thought i was cheating on kai with thomas, sawyer even came at me for this, i remember it perfectly. then kai left and thomas’ kid was born and he got with riley. i had this thing with a guy named reese, but he was always fighting with everyone on the timeline and never actually happy? i remember nobody understood what i liked in him. He was actually a very nice guy, but had definitely a lot of issues. 

sabine: and for the second half of the hills recap, i have a shit memory so i’ll be using things from gossip as highlights. i don’t remember much from the beginning of my time here, but there was that raf, kai, bella drama i remember. that love triangle. that was kana was a huge player too, and him and erin had their drama. sawyer was with aiden, yaya and carina were that on and off thing. 

madi: then summer came along and we got a lot of new people, including toni, aries & adrian. a lot of the old problematic cast left, thank god. things were rather calm at that moment. I think just a few weeks before that i broke up with reese and then we almost got officially back together but he cheated on me with one of my friends, so i was having kind of a rough time. but i got back on my feet and traveled and forgot about him. 

sabine: It was  also around that time that Antigone joined the show, right? funny story here, we used to be friends and then i hated her and now we’re the best of friends again. i didn’t like her “married men” phase and not a lot of people did either, i remember she got a lot of shit for it. larkin was a cry baby back then and so was astraea. some anon i remember called atlas and jinyoung from the start so congrats to that anon. i never knew that erin was pregnant with kana’s baby, was that true?

madi: Acutally i still dont know if this is true or not!

sabine: there was that huge baby fever eruption over the summer and people had those stupid rumors about kazi cheating on mia. can i just say? to anyone who thinks kazi and mia would ever cheat on each other? you’re an idiot. oh, elijah got mugged right? that was wild.

madi: the cheating rumors have been here since the start and they’re just..pathetic. It’s sad to think that someone spent a year sending those to a gossip. and it’s so sad to see two of your close friends go through that.  i also forgot to mention, the golden couple had their wedding back in july. it was a beautiful ceremony, however, like at every events on this show, someone acted like a fool and made it all about them. that someone? is crazy astronaut girl. yes, astraea. i think she broke her hand at the reception then wouldnt stop complaining about it. she was probably in a fight with blayze.

sabine: he has a thing with astraea! she was literally in love with him. dean and barbie were together at that point. i think thomas and i were dating at this point too, it was kind of on and off around the time of the wedding. okay here’s another anon i want to point out. “who the fuck is libby and why do people like her”. to answer that libby is an amazing human being and people don’t like her, they love her. javon and naomi were a thing. jagger and thorne became athing. sofia and finn were a thing. antigone and raf had their beef.

madi: astraea was obsessed with blayze and with the idea of having a boyfriend really. there were a lot of couples at that time, and they all broke up a few weeks later. 

sabine: and this part is gold, when asked who the cutest couples were, gossip responded “gia & fitz, aiden & sawyer, finn & sofia.��� that just shows you how far we’ve traveled. and people thought bryce was some kind of casanova who went around breaking hearts for fun, which couldn’t be further from the truth. a few weeks later aries and toni got together and stayed together for a while, until she broke things off. another bashir joined the show too, Abel. he and sabrina immediately got into a relationships. around the same time or so, antigone and adrian had broken up, again. and missy joined the show. she had a thing with him, and sadly left because she didnt feel welcomed. 

madi: then fall came along and some people from the past came back, like effy, cyrus and sofia. and this is where im going to stop the recap, because if you’ve watched a few recent episodes of the show, you know what happened. if you havent, you can always watch them all online on mtv’s website! 

sabine: and now moving on to last night’s awards, there are some that i saw and was like bullshit, you know? what did you think mads?

madi: i think the reactions we inevitable! i kinda expected them and thought i wouldnt be surprised by the results of the votes, but i was. 

sabine: the first award that kind of threw me off guard was the most under appreciated one, i don’t know how rallo weaseled his way in there but i don’t think he should have placed. i mean if people really got to know him the way i have, i would say there’s not much to appreciate.

madi: really? i love rallo, he’s one of my best friends. he knows literally everything about me. i didnt expect people to vote for him tho, but im actually happy they did. i see a lot of his tweets that arent about his idiotic musicallys get unanswered and it angers me. i hate when people here ignore others. 

sabine: for cutest couple, i would have placed q, sonny and noemi in first place. they’ve just always been constant and loving and i don’t think, as far as i can remember, them having issues. so i think they should have at least tied for first, or been first.

madi: i think it wasnt a surpise that mia and kazi won. what i was surprised to see tho is that antigone and adrian won, seeing by the anons on the gossip i never knew people really thought they were cute or so. it’s nice to see them top a couple like mazi. i also completely agree with what you said on quentin, noemi and sonny, we love an unproblematic couple. to be honest, i hate to pick between couples, i feel like im always betraying one of my friends, am i the only one? probably.

sabine: here is what pissed me off the most, the cutest couple that never was. adrian and toni, me and kazi, and fitz and gia. i don’t know why any of those recieved votes or the votes that they did, but whoever voted for those hasn’t been paying attention. adrian and toni for starters, aren’t close like they used to be, so maybe a couple months ago they would’ve actually made a “cute” couple but now, no way. me and kazi, are just friends, i’ve said before he’s like a cousin to me. and fitz and gia were a couple weren’t they? or am i wrong?

madi: well first of all, adrian and toni were never a couple i believe so? just like kazi and you, right? a troll sent yall names and people just decided to go for you guys. as for fitz and gia, they were together for a long time and were very cute, so i understand why some people voted for them.
