soooo i've been real busy this past month and change working on this monster of a painting! it was originally for the GO Ref library study club but clearly took much longer than i anticipated😅

for those of you who don't recognize it, this is based on one of my favorite historical paintings, Judith Beheading Holofernes (1620) by Artemisia Gentileschi. i love the Baroque period and this painting (as well as her other works) makes me insane. here it is Good Omens style so maybe all of you can be insane with me <3

Nah ‘cause for real, Heyward didn’t even know who Cleo was and where the hell she came from but legit thought “well what am I gonna do? Leave this young girl in the streets? Come in, have a meal” and Mike couldn’t even do that with SARAH, not only a friend of Kiara he has known for years but who’s also a girl who belongs to his precious side of the island.

I think the reasons behind Mike’s behavior go way further than Pogues and Kooks, that’s just an excuse. I think it’s way more egoistical than that, he legit came from nothing and now he has something he won’t allow anyone to ruin it and more so damage his reputation. I don’t even believe him when he says “all I care about is my daughter” ‘cause I mean we’ve seen it’s not the case, I’m pretty sure all he actually cares about more than anything is to keep his reputation intact in front of the Kooks no matter what, even if it means to leave in the streets homeless kids, even if it means to send his daughter away to basically a cult and brainwash her, even if it means kicking his own daughter out of the house. All he actually cares about is for people to see that his life his perfect like the perfect Kook he is now. LET’S KEEP DRAGGING HIM THIS IS FUN

Yeah I think there probably is some guarding of their reputation going on. Maybe because he and Anna fought so hard to gain that reputation in the first place? Kie did say they are trying to keep up with the Joneses in Midsummers. I wish we knew more about their early life, there is a lot to unpack there I'm sure.

I like the idea that the reason they are at the ceremony in 3x10 is because they are trying to keep up appearances and Kie didn't really want them there. Her look in that scene could be interpreted as awkwardness for being up on stage but I could also see it as her being uncomfortable with her parents presence. That's what I'm telling myself for now anyway.

It's so funny how after S2 I was like "damn can Mike say something?!" because he seemed to take a backseat to Anna and now I'm like "god SHUT UP".
