Tumblr activism is bullying people to suicide for writing aged-up cartoon characters, but continuing to consume One Piece and Rurouni Kenshin, real life child molesters/CP distributors/friends of them.
Tumblr activism is supporting Palestine, but continuing to watch Our Flag Means Death after firing an actor for supporting Palestine.
Tumblr activism is wanting freedom for Palestine, but never giving a rat's ass about Native Americans.
You're all fake as shit.

Just to be clear, with the recent release of the Rurouni Kenshin "reboot"
The Mangaka got arrested for LITERAL. ACTUAL. CHILD PORN.
He paid a f i n e instead of going to jail. And CONTINUED to get money and jobs even after getting charged OFFICIALLY WITH GODSDAMN CHILD PORN.
Don't fucking watch it. Don't PAY for it. Don't INTERACT with it. Just don't do a fucking thing. This isn't dealing with JKRevolting, this is PEDO CHARGES. ON PAPER. And you'll be paying him watching this new series.
Fuck that man in EVERY iteration.

Look man, if you're an English dub voice actor who's aware of the fact that Nobuhiro Watsuki got busted for owning CP, and you still auditioned for the new Rurouni Kenshin anime? You're fucking trash.
Yes, I am aware that some (Not all, which is disappointing.) of the English voice actors donated the money they made from the new English dub to charity, but in my honest opinion, they should have remained uncredited.
Kinda shocked Bang Zoom even decided to put out an English dub for this series, I mean, I know they stealth dropped it a couple of months ago, but still.
Stop giving Nobuhiro Watsuki a platform.
Let him fade into obscurity, please.

Hello again, dear fandom. I have received some interest in the discord server. However… I have thoughts and questions. This will probably read more like a journal entry than anything else.
TW/CW: CP, Watsuki
I continue to struggle with how much I personally want to engage with RK given that the author is still alive, profiting, and more than likely continuing his crimes behind closed doors.
My initial intention was to open up a discord that centered fan-created content, particularly queer content and discussion. Despite a series that literally has “romantic” in its title, I have always viewed Watsuki’s shallow handling of RK’s canon relationships and female characters to be, at best, incredibly unsatisfying. Now knowing what we know now, it’s not surprising. Kaoru, Misao, and Megumi deserved better.
Things like supporting official merch and pedo apologist arguments were not going to be welcome in the discord. Piracy is a thing, and the only somewhat acceptable way to consume RK at this point, in my opinion anyway. However, a quick google search will lead one to articles that suggest piracy can actually boost sales and market awareness. Thus, my cognitive dissonance continues.
The anime reboot, while aesthetically pleasing to look at, is also more faithful to the manga. And thus, closer to Watsuki. For some reason, I was hoping the anime reboot would distance itself from some of the problematic narrative choices that already existed in the manga. And now, as I am watching this reboot with different eyes, and with the knowledge of its creator’s unspeakable crimes, I’m beginning to see just how outdated the series and its tropes actually are. I can’t find a reason to justify its retelling, other than the occasional nostalgia-driven dopamine hit. But that’s not good enough. There are other stories that are much more deserving of being animated.
Meanwhile, the Hokkaido arc is barely worth mentioning. It’s garbage.
TW/CW: fan death
Additionally, as some hardcore saisa fans may already know, one of the most prolific saisa fanfic authors, Kuroiyousei, passed away about one year ago now. While they were not the only one still producing queer RK fan content (newer fanart can still be found on pixiv), the English-speaking queer fandom has essentially died along with them.
So where do we go from here? Do we, as queer and trans fans, try to reclaim what we can? Is that even possible? I ask all of this as someone for whom Rurouni Kenshin was my favorite series. Its depiction of Saitou Hajime, my favorite character. And saisa, my OTP. I have fond memories of all the friends and experiences I had in this fandom.
But there are other stories out there. Other saisa-adjacent pairings and ships to sail.
Still. It’s not the same. I can’t blame fans (including myself) for continuing to feel something for a story that has impacted them.
But these days when I look at the RK manga on my shelf, instead of fond fandom memories there’s this question in their place: Is this no longer worth saving?

Did Nobuhiro Watsuki say Aoshi and Misao get together? [Rurouni Kenshin]
kaorou999@youtube: actually, i heard that mr watsuki (the creator of samurai x) said in an interview that Aoshi and Misao do get together, im glad for that!!!
Chrno34@youtube: Yup, at the San Diego Comic Con of '06, a fan asked him if Misao and Aoshi got married and confirmed it.
Summoner [email protected]: Btw, all the Aoshi/Misao stuff comes from the fact I asked Watsuki at the 2006 Comic Con if they get married, Source: http://ladysarah92.blogspot.com/2009/11/
In Comic-con 2006 Nobuhiro Watsuki was a guest and was interviewed - As for Watsuki, he answered a wide range of questions. He talked about his inspirations and what made his decision to become a manga creator easier, such as a childhood appreciation of Doraemon and his apprenticeship with the manga creator Takeshi Obata, best known in the US for his work on the title Death Note. When pressed for his favorite character, besides the obvious selection of Kenshin himself, Shishio was a close second. People kept on wanting to talk about the anime, especially Watsuki’s involvement in it, not only of the Rurouni Kenshin series but the one of his most recent series Buso Renkin that has yet to be shown on Japanese television. They did have a clip of it there and showed it. Regarding his involvement with the anime, he checks the scripts and the character designs, and is involved with the selection of the voice actors. Source: https://www.comicsbeat.com/the-internet-manga-story-you-never-thought-you-would-see/ Copplola: We also had the honor of hosting two of our creators Nobuhiro Watsuki, creator of Rurouni Kenshin and the new Buso Renkin series, and Matsuri Hino, creator of Meru Puri and the upcoming Vampire Knight, and it was great to see the enthusiasm and it was wonderful for them to see how well they are loved here in the United States. Saturday, July 22 The VIZ panel hosts Rurouni Kenshin creator Nobuhiro Watsuki who says, "Drawing manga isn't something you do for yourself. I'm always thinking of how I can draw this so readers understand." Source: http://www.sequentialtart.com/article.php?id=310
“Do Aoshi and Misao ever get together?”
Nobuhiro Watsuki is translated saying “Of course they did get together but probably they did get married.”

Feel free not to answer this because it’s a very sensitive and loaded question and I’m only asking you this since you’ve mentioned the series before, but would you say the Japanese fandom for Rurouni Kenshin has gotten much smaller since Watsuki-sensei’s crimes came to light or has he been forgiven? The western fandom is (understandably) almost non-existent now but its remaining vocal fans seem to have taken on a ‘separate the art from the artist’ mentality. I see that Rurouni Kenshin received an exhibition, a 2023 remake and an interview from Oda-sensei after the arrest took place in 2017, which is quite disappointing to me.
Uhh, polemic question! I hope I don't offend anyone answering this.
I think the japanese fandom has gotten smaller after this "incident", but not that much smaller. The serialization of the Hokkaido Arc was quickly resumed in Jump Square after the author paid his fine, and it is still going on. I think it shows how popular the series is even if Watsuki is a piece of.... It means Rurouni Kenshin is still selling well enough. Shueisha mentioned receiving many letters, and decided with Watsuki that continuing the manga to answer the desires of fans was a matter of duty...🤷🏻‍♀️ 💵💵I don't think he was forgiven, but the love for the Rurouni Kenshin series is definitely bigger.
The live action movies were also a big hit, and the fact the animation got a remake...well, the fandom is still huge, isn't it?. Are you sure the western fandom is almost non-existent? I would like to know. I mean, I've seen many people complaining, but have you all stopped watching/reading the series for good?
I saw a few japanese fans complaining about his crimes, that the 2023 anime remake should be cancelled and so, but they were certainly not as outspoken as the western fandom (thanks for being loud). I've seen some ‘separate the art from the artist’ in the japanese fandom too. However, I'm sure the Japanese were disgusted at Watsuki's behavior in their own way, even if in a more discreet way than the western-fandom.
To be honest, I've seen more people complaining that their beloved voice actors from the 90s were changed in this anime remake :P Yeah, the Japanese fandom can be very outspoken when it comes to their idols XD.
As for Oda, he was Watsuki's assistant. They have most likely sat and talked about it. He will always support his master.
I love Kenshin so much, I'm still keeping up with the series, however I would never ask for an autograph, buy any autographed shikishi , or support the author in any way.

Immensely upsetting that the new Rurouni Kenshin adaptation premieres on CR today for a number of reasons.
RK used to be in my top 5 favorite manga ever. I made a point to follow the mangaka's career for quite some time. But I can't in good conscience support their work anymore and you probably can guess why!
This adaptation even looks really good!! But I can't enjoy it in light of what we now know.
If I could separate the art from the artist in this instance, oh bless me I would in a heartbeat. RK deserves better than to be associated with this man.
This is why we can't have nice things. Shame.

Is Nobuhiro Watatsuki unable to atone for himself? Or he can only atone for himself in front of the god but not for the public?
Twwk (@animepopheart) responding, since I wrote the article! As I mentioned in it, I don't really know what would be "enough" in this case. As a parent, I feel such sadness for the children who were abused that it's a little hard for me to think straight. And I don't know what the parents would want from those who viewed pornography of their children. I would say that I might feel differently if he served prison time or didn't restart his serialization so quickly after being convicted.
As for God...the marvelous thing about God is that we aren't he ones atoning. God atoned for us. We only need to turn to him and accept him as Savior and ask him to be Lord over our lives. He forgives us and washes our slate clean, even from the vilest of deeds.
