Nintendo Switch: ACTIVE LIFE Outdoor Challenge!
I almost rehomed my Ringcon and Ringfit. I know crazy huh, so since I was possibly needing another game in my lineup to replace it-I found this gem! A wonderful family friendly outdoor game!
Tumblr media
Get ready to take on the great outdoors anywhere because ACTIVE LIFE Outdoor Challenge is back on the Nintendo Switch™! From kayaking to obstacle-filled races, you will engage in real-life exercises to complete a variety of fun minigames. Improve your hand-eye coordination and work up a sweat with the Joy-Con™ and Leg Strap! More info here: https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/active-life-outdoor-challenge-switch/
My Thoughts On The Game:
This game full price is $50, and it has value even at that price, but I got it on sale for $13. If you do get the game, you will need wrist straps and a leg strap per person. This is great for a family friendly exercise game. But if you are looking to get your kid excited about exercising, try this game out.
So you start off by an introduction, and then make a character. You go into the menu and you have Single player, Multiplayer, and options. You have outdoor island mode, casual play, and practice mode for both Single and Multiplayer. Once you select your mode, you pick your character, and your activity. Each activity’s movements is explained beforehand. 30 minutes for me, with my nephew, I burned 191 calories. Its more made for kids, but adults can get something out of this too.
Love this game for active families. Really, just the idea that the family would be united in the cause of health is also really beautiful. I would say go for this game, while it is still on sale-or wait for it to be. What do you think of this game?

AITA for ruining my cousin's birthday party?
Please read the whole thing before making a judgement.
Real names not used.
So I (25M) bought a nintendo switch for my younger sister Sara (16F) for her birthday. However, mom decided that Sara would be sharing her birthday party with our cousin Cody (12M) as a celebration for him just recovering from having cancer. Mom had also said that it would be family only so Sara was not allowed to have her friends over for her 16th birthday. She was of course upset over that because she had plans on what she wanted to do with her friends. But Aunt (Karen) had told her not to be selfish about it because "you see your friends every day at school."
The rest of our relatives who had been invited hadn't been prepared for it to be a celebration for Cody as well, so none of them had gotten anything for him. Karen decided that it would be fair if Cody got to choose some of the gifts for himself. Of course as soon as he saw Sara open the wrapped up Switch, he had snatched it saying that it was his now. Sara was upset about that because she didn't think it was fair to let him do that, but the rest of our aunts and uncles scolded her for being selfish and being mean to "poor Cody". And "Cody has been sick, just let him have this. He deserves it. You are being greedy for wanting it."
Sara locked herself in her room for the rest of the party and didn't even come out for the cake. She only came out after everyone had left. Her eyes were puffy from crying and it was obvious that she did not have a good birthday because of everything. If anything, the party had been more about Cody while she had just been shoved to the side.
Fast forward a few months to the day of Cody's birthday. Aunt planned a big party for the day. All of Cody's friends were invited along with all our family. Sara refused to go and planned to go hang out with friends instead, but she was forced to go in the end because other relatives were calling her selfish and cruel for not wanting to celebrate Cody's birthday. She said she would only be there for an hour before leaving, and I said I would drive her home.
Aunt and Cody had gone out to buy the cake, so I went to their home early. Luckily for me, Uncle (Tony) was home. He hadn't been there for Sara's birthday party because he had been away for a business trip. He had let me inside when he saw me and I told him what had happened at Sara's birthday. Apparently he hadn't know what had happened. I asked him if they kept the box for the Switch, and he had said yes.
Tony had not stopped me when I packed the Switch back into its box (I removed the game that was in it and put that back in its case). He didn't stop me when I took the packed up Switch out to my car. He said that I was allowed to have it, so I did. I took it back to the store I bought it from and returned it. Luckily, it was still within the return window, so I was able to return it. I bought a few new Switch games for Sara (Some of her friends had banded together and gotten her a Switch). I never went back to Cody's house after that. Instead, I stayed at home with Sara because our parents relented and let her just stay home instead. I played games with her while our parents were gone.
Hours later, Mom and Dad come home bringing Karen with them. Karen was livid. She screamed that I ruined Cody's birthday party by stealing his Switch and that we must hate him for being sick. She knew I had been at the house because the doorbell ring showed I had been there. Apparently they had planned party games that would revolve around the Switch so all of Cody's friends had been disappointed when there was nothing to play. Karen screamed about how Cody had been crying and that it was not right to make the birthday boy cry. I pointed out that they had made Sara cry on her birthday. And Karen said "Sara shouldn't be making a big deal out of it, she is being childish for crying over a game system that she doesn't need. Cody is still a child, and you are giving him a bad childhood."
Karen decided that she would be taking Sara's Switch and giving it back to Cody and that she had no right to be taking Cody's things. Sara argued with her saying that it was her Switch that her friends gave her, but Karen screamed that she was just making excuses to be a thief and "you would probably be happy if Cody died, wouldn't you?" Mom and Dad had made her leave, but Karen has been blowing up our phones since then calling us (but mainly me and Sara) assholes for ruining Cody's birthday.
Yeah I know that taking the Switch back was mean, but I don't like how Cody just has to be the center of attention for everything. Sara's birthday was not the first time he got all attention when the party had been for someone else, but those are stories for another time.
AITA for ruining his birthday?
What are these acronyms?

Nintendo Directs are honestly amazing, cause you'll watch them, see an announcement that's like "For the first time in 20 years, this beloved series makes its return! Schranpfenbörg Adventures 2: A New Schranpf Börgs HD Remake launches this fall, for the Nintendo Switch family of systems!", and it's a game that you've never seen before, never heard of before. But without fail, if you look up reactions to the Direct afterwards, you'll see plenty of people going "OMG IT'S FINALLY BACK 😭😭😭 SCHRANPFENBÖRG FANS EATING GOOD TONIGHT", and be all to eager to explain why the game/series is great and how to get started to anyone who thought the game seemed interesting.

I've now started Pikmin 3 and Olimar's side mission vlogs are so funny to me.
Like the Koppaite trio are already on the search for this man, and any savvy Pikmin player already knows this means something horrific has happened to Olimar because of how the universe treats Olimar as a person.
And then you unlock Olimar's video logs. All of which he starts with a Middle-Aged Dad Too Close To The Camera angle on him which he never fixes. His very first words are "Hocotate Freight is back in massive debt due to reasons that aren't the President's fault... I say only because this is a company video."
He spends every video making as many under-handed jabs at the President as he can get away with. He starts every video with "I'm Olimar and I never tire of hunting for treasure on this planet" with the ("I say only because this is a company video") implied under his breath. He roasts Louie's incompetence. He complains about the budget space suits they've switched to, which I think counts as inflicting genuine trauma on a man whose entire month of castaway survival on this planet had hinged on the non-failure of his space suit's life support system. He's cold. He's broke even after committing all the atrocities for his boss. His coworker sucks and his boss is a dick. He took a vacation once in the last 5 years and that vacation ended with him learning how to kill remorselessly. No one saves him but himself. No one helps him but himself. He's the world's most underappreciated salaryman. He spends all his logs talking about how much he misses his family and how much he wants to get the fuck out of here, in the civilest and politest and "because this is a company video"est way he can. He's interrupted in every single video by Louie getting Pikmin slaughtered on camera and Olimar just watches the gore and violence as if witnessing a mild inconvenience because he's dead inside.
And he finally makes it to the final vlog where he says "There's a big treasure haul in here, and once I get it I'm giving my boss three games' worth of pent-up middle fingers and then going on a year-long vacation with my family" only to then be cut off as he's torn from the ground by a nightmare creature whose only goal in life is to be a living Saw trap.
Why the fuck does Nintendo keep doing this man like this.

Note
just saw your post about how Golden Sun is on the switch now. would you be cool with telling us more about it?
(i struggle to get into media that is new to me without knowing a bit about it first, and it's usually best when i hear it from someone who loves the media in question)
Golden Sun began as a two-part Game Boy Advance JRPG series starting with 2001's "Golden Sun" and ending the first arc with "Golden Sun: The Lost Age" in 2002. The second arc of the story began with "Golden Sun: Dark Dawn" on the Nintendo DS released in 2010 and is the last title in the series to this date with an unfortunate "The End?" cliffhanger suggesting the closure of the series as a whole would come with a FOURTH game to be released at some point in time. To this day there has been no true word on a fourth title to finally finish the series.
The Golden Sun series of games were developed by Camelot Software whom originally were a Sega Only Developer specifically focusing on the "Shining" series starting with Shining in the Darkness in 1991 and ending with Shining Force III in 1998.
Camelot Software then became a Second-Party Development Studio for Nintendo focusing on the Mario Sports series of titles including both the home console and handheld versions of these games, beginning with Mario Golf in 1999.
Camelot Software was also the creator of the Waluigi character who first appeared in Mario Tennis in 2000. (They also created both the UNSEEN version and now KNOWN versions of Wapeach for Mario Tennis and Power Tennis respectively.)
The game series was created with the intent of allowing Camelot to get back to their roots or more RPG style games and to bolster the Nintendo IP owned roster with diverse gameplay titles. Much of Golden Sun's style can be seen in Camelot's older "Shining" titles with a more evolved and "of the era" style. Golden Sun was originally being conceived as a Nintendo 64 title before it was revealed that the Game Cube would be releasing soon and the N64 would be sunset. Development then moved to the GBA.
Originally Golden Sun and The Lost Age were intended to be ONE GAME, but the cartridge space on the GBA was too small and would need far more memory to whole the full game so the idea to split it in two was devised to create a much more well rounded story, give devs more time to finish the latter half of the game, and get the first title out sooner.
Golden Sun (as a series) is fairly simple and follows more traditional JRPG standards of turn based battles, a party of four characters, elemental magic, leveling up, and various collectable armors and creatures to enhance characters in and out of battle.
Elements are a key point to both gameplay and story as the world is inhabited by a small amount of "Adepts" whom can control these elements based on four types: Wind, Earth, Fire, and Water.
Djinni, small elemental creatures, can be found all over the world that will add new abilities and skills to the party's Psynergy (the game equivalent of magic spells) as well as used as parts of larger summons.
The main plot of the first title follows Isaac and Garet, years after the tragic loss of Isaac's father and their mutual friend Jenna's brother and parents being killed in a storm, as they learn more about their town, the world around them, psynergy, and the history of Mt Aleph's Sol Sanctum (a temple hidden within mountain near their small village) from one of the village's historians Kraden.
After opening up Sol Sanctum they are approached by two people who were part of the cause that ended up taking the lives of Isaac's dad and Jenna's family, a third masked figure, and their presumed fourth partner who are currently hunting for the Elemental Stars in an effort to light all the Elemental Lighthouses and releasing the power of Alchemy and Psynergy (again, the game's magic system) across the world which could be potentially disastrous.
After most of the Elemental Stars are stolen, Jenna and their teacher Kraden are kidnapped, Garet and Isaac meet "The Wise One" (a giant floating rock with an eyeball) who tasks them to stop the opposing party of four before they can attain their goal and quite possibly doom the world.
Along this journey they are eventually joined by Ivan, a young Wind Adept, and Mia an expert healer and Water Adept. Between these two and Isaac, an Earth Adept, and Garet, a Fire Adept, the party is able to round out with the full elemental psynergy roster.
They end the first game with a cliff hanger that directly and immediately starts back up with Golden Sun: The Lost Age.
The Lost Age features 4 new party members, who you do meet some of in the first game (no spoilers), and eventually the two teams of four merge into a team of 8 (two of each elemental type) - the groups combine their powers and the first arc ends.
Dark Dawn, the DS title, takes place 30 years after the end of The Lost Age and primarily follows around the children of the protagonists from the first two games going on an adventure that started far before their birth with something that happened at the end of The Lost Age.
Each game features both in and out of combat use of Psynergy. For combat it's as simple as attack/defend/buff/heal/etc. Outside of combat certain elements of Psynergy are used to solve puzzles in various ways from growing plants, pushing large stones, reading character's minds, blowing away objects with great winds, freezing water to create new platforms, etc.
The game features lots of fun collectables, side-quests, world building events, optional dungeons, and more.
I could go on and on about this series more, but that would involve a TON of spoilers so like... GO PLAY THE GAMES! THEY ARE VERY FUN!

✦ Lost in Limbo Masterpost ✦
Everything you need to know about the game so far! 💜
Tumblr media
When you finally quit your dead-end job and move back to your mother's house in the ever-peaceful town of Faybourne, you think things could only get better. However, the moment you set foot in your childhood home, a harrowing nightmare long forgotten reappears to haunt you once more.
A tower that crumbles in the vastness of a bleeding sky. A voice that mourns and yearns for something.
Nothing could have prepared you for what awaited you behind that door. Nothing and no one could have warned you of the danger you would be in if you returned to that town.
You wouldn't have listened.
Torn away from your peaceful life and thrown into a world of danger and deceit, you are at the mercy of the Seven Sovereigns of Limbo, almighty gods that have sworn to be your protectors...as long as you prove yourself useful.
As the consequences of a plan set in motion long ago start to unveil, will love be the key to your freedom, or the first chapter of your downfall?
✦ THE STORY ✦
Tumblr media
Lost in Limbo is a dark fantasy & romance visual novel taking place in the mysterious realm of Limbo. Take the role of River Winchester (full name and pronouns changeable), a human dealing with common-life problems, as you find yourself trapped in a foreign world of danger and deceit.
Try to survive and go back to your family with the help of the Seven Sovereigns, gods who rule over Limbo and have sworn to be your protectors...even if their intentions may be completely different.
Which of the Seven Sovereigns will be in charge of your life is up to fate, but whether you fall in love or in disgrace... is up to you.
✦ THE GAME ✦
✦ Lost in Limbo is rated +17 and will include mild horror, implicit and suggestive sexual scenes and discussions, sensitive topics such as toxic family relationships, anxiety, depression, depictions of alcohol / drug use, etc. Each route will have content warnings available for the player.
✦ The game and demo will be released on itchio and then steam. Other platforms (mobile/nintendo switch) are being considered and will depend on future kickstarter stretch goals.
Keep reading to know more about the game and the choice system, the cast, the MC and the Demo release!
✦ The game WILL NEVER depict gruesome scenes such as torture, sexual assault or any kind of overly cruel violence. The game has some fighting, a few deaths, and some unsettling descriptions, though!
✦ There will be different choice systems that will give shape to your playthrough:
Trust Points centered around your Love Interest; a low level of trust can translate into Bad Endings*.
Plot-driving choices that will shape the story and its possible endings.
Personality choices that will determine the nature of the MC's relationship with the LI, as well as how the MC reacts to certain events.
Flavor choices! These don't impact the game directly, but are there for the main objective of the game: having fun!
*In Lost in Limbo, there's not only one correct answer and one wrong answer. There's different ways of earning trust points without having to stick for the "one and only right answer", and mistakes can be redeemed...sometimes.
✦ Lost in Limbo treats consensual sex as a natural, integral and positive part of the game. Every Love Interest will approach it differently based on their experiences and their preferences; the player will have the choice whether to engage or not* without being penalized.
*Amon's route is strongly centered around the sexual tension between him and the MC, and how this attraction quickly develops into a physical relationship. Sexual scenes will be more frequent than in the rest of the routes and can be skipped, but happen nonetheless.
✦ This is a LGBT+ game.
✦ THE CAST ✦
Tumblr media
The Seven Sovereigns: Because a family of gods can be a father and his six children...with all the problems that this entails.
✦ Lost in Limbo features seven Love interests and a wide cast of secondary characters yet to be revealed. Each Love Interest is in a different stage of their lives and has a past and personality that molds their relationship with the MC into different kinds of romance.
✦ The routes will be episodic, meaning that the game will update regularly with new chapters instead of the complete routes being released all at once.
Tumblr media
As the older sibling, Amon had plenty of time to learn how to be a god living amongst mortals, and yet, that hasn't stopped him from indulging in mundane pleasures...greatly so.
A frantic-paced and intense romance in which a physical relationship blooms into love with a great deal of hardships to overcome.
Tumblr media
Dedicated and brave, Praefectus Raeya takes her role as Limbo's protector extremely seriously, but the truth behind the realm's darkest times will soon put her loyalty to the test.
A woman bound by duty and a romance full of yearning and mutual pining. A route centered around trust, forgiveness and finding the strenght to fix what's broken.
Tumblr media
Pronounced [ɡaˈel]
Master of the Grand Houses, Gael is admired for his humble and altruistic persona, but a dangerous secret has kept him away from love his whole life.
A fake-marriage scenario turns into a forbidden romance for a man who has been denied affection since the day he was created.
Tumblr media
Stripped of their name and shunned after commiting treason, the Sovereign now known as Lord Envy lives a life of solitude—if only he could get rid of his siblings.
An enemies-to-lovers romance, a betrayed heart that needs healing, and a god who constantly denies themselves from being happy.
Tumblr media
Kind and caring, Ara is not only determined to make your time in Limbo a happy thing to remember, but also to make things go back to the way they were, no matter the cost.
A charming and playful romance and the tale of a girl who takes matters into her own hands—for better or worse.
Tumblr media
As the youngest sibling, no one expects anything from Xal, not even himself. He is seen as a good-for-nothing and a poor excuse of a god, but you two are about to prove everyone wrong.
A first love romance about a young god who was born in the wrong side of the universe, and how someone can be the reason to try again where you once failed.
Tumblr media
Creator of Limbo, Father Pride has to watch over the safety of his realm and the happiness of his family. However, the life of the God of Limbo can be solitary...and that solitude can lead to one's demise.
A convoluted love story about a god that can't let go, as much as he wants to. A dramatic route where the right decision is never the easiest to make.
Pride's route is the sometimes hopeless tale of an all-mighty god brought to his knees. His good ending will be "harder" to obtain than the rest of the cast. It'll be the last route being written and produced because of its weight plot-wise.
✦ THE MC ✦
River Winchester (name and pronouns changeable) quit their job and had to move back to their childhood town to live with their mother and grandmother. Old family dynamics and the dread of an unknown future await them—as well as a cryptic nightmare they have been having since they were a kid.
A past buried under years of lies must come to light sooner or later, if you are able to put together the pieces of the puzzle and live to tell the tale.
✦ River is a strong, hard-working individual who isn't afraid to jump into action. In the game, you'll be able to play River as more bold or more timid, but the core of their personality will remain. River is funny, kind and a bit too stubborn—but you choose how to manage those traits.
✦ River also has some tastes and hobbies, as well as an undying love for food.
As the development progresses, we will tell you more about the personality-choice system!
✦The MC is written as an adult who is at least 21 years old. The player can headcanon their character as any age they desire, but every route is written so the MC is of an age similar to that of the love interest*.
*Except for Father Pride.
✦ THE DEMO ✦
Will feature:
The first version of Lost in Limbo's prologue
Customizable first name, last name and pronouns of the MC (she/her, he/him, they/them) or use a default name; River Winchester.
Over ~42k words (around three hours of gameplay)
Seven CGs (one per character) + mini-CGs to enhance the experience!
Over 25 different choices (some of them timed!)
✦ DEMO RELEASE DATE: TBA*
*Being extremely positive, we are working to bring you the demo early 2024, but we don't want to make any promises we can't keep. We are only four people and sadly, we can only work on Lost in Limbo in our free time.
If you have made it this far—thank you for your time! We are sorry for the obnoxiously long post. We hope it has been useful to at least solve some questions you may have about the game. You can always ask us anything and we will reply as soon as possible! 💜

Nintendo Switch: Human Fall Flat
Aunty Gamer here! So, like any good youth my nephew watches a lot of youtubers, and this is a game that gets youtubed often! I put it on my watchlist, and waited for it to go on sale. Sales happen a lot more often than you would think.
Tumblr media
Explore a world where puzzles are gigantic, and the challenges even bigger! Human has shrunk! More info here: https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/human-fall-flat-switch/
My Thoughts On The Game:
Full price is $20, on sale it was probably $5? I think it has immense “play with family value” at that price. There is a lot that comes with the game, so it could be worth the full price too. It also has an official website, so good on them. Play alone, couch co-op, or online. I do like the options.
Graphics are simple but you can tell the technology that made it is much more advanced compared to what used to be a “simple graphic” game back in the day. Menu has 3 options: play, options, customize. I went to customize first, there are two looks you can save, you can also have a second player join here. Now that I have two looks customized, let’s play! You can play local, online, or wireless. Controls seem basic, and like the title says you, as a human, fall flat into the level. This is a puzzle game, you have to figure out how to pass each level. How to play is explained slowly. Music is kind of odd, but it’s one of the odder games I think I have played. The levels can be done on your own but it’s a perfect set up for multiple people. Once you do a level a fourth option comes up on the menu: Extras. The sense of “gravity” is off intentionally for gameplay so if anyone is struggling to play this game, I would visit that section and revisit the levels, or play with friends!
This is a popular game for youtubers, or so I am told. Youtube sure has changed since I was watching it as a sort of cable like content. I don’t hate this game, personally if it were up to me-I would opt to play a different game for “family game time” but that is more from the fact that I think there are better games out there. Like Among Us, but I love this from the point of view that a parent/guardian can trust their kid in this game completely without having to keep an eye on them. I bet my nephew would kick my butt at this game, and that win boost isn’t a bad perk either.

"Why is Alola so hated?"
Someone asked this question on Reddit.
The original post:
"Other than too much dialogue what is the worst thing about Alola. Alola is my favorite Pokémon games and region for a multitude of reasons but all I hear about it is that it has too much dialogue. I can understand that but later titles have just as much dialogue especially in the beginning portions of the game. So why is such an issue in these games than any other in the series. Also you thought the GD games were dark, the Aether Family are very dark concept if you want to look into them. Anyways back on topic, why are Alola considered the worst games besides the dialogue of course"
I thought about this question and I ended up writing a lengthy reply, see below. For context I should mention that Sun and Moon were my favourite mainline stories:
"So everyone is mentioning USUM, but since I was around for the launch of the games, I may as well throw my hat into the ring and explain what went wrong:
Everyone was really excited for the games to come out, but there was generally something missing from them. Promotional material was overly vague.
When the original Sun and Moon came out they had the following issues:
The story was very handholdy. I am a GREAT FAN of the story mode, but I have never replayed these games because they are basically visual novels. If you were a Nuzlocker, someone who wanted to replay Pokemon games, or if you didn't like the story, then these versions would automatically become your least favourite because of how long it takes to reach each milestone. It's also easier than a lot of prior games, not as easy as Gen 6 or 8 but up there.
While the region is IMO one of the most cohesive, it's also one of the least expansive. The Alola Region is fucking tiny. There's not nearly as many side things to do as in generations 4 and 5, and the new things they put into the Alola games were a lot less fun gimmick-wise. I like that they abandon the grid system, it needed to go, but Pokemon team don't seem to work well in 3d.
The online multiplayer was total ass. Of course, the online only got WORSE From here on out. How you get worse than Festival Plaza is beyond me, but I think Gen 7 is definitely when Pokemon jumped from having the BEST multiplayer system on Nintendo systems in generation 6 to one of the worst. Personally I was also disappointed the Festival Plaza wasn't a bit more like the Wifi Plaza, which was already a broken terrible mess but at least had some minigames. It seemed to take the wrong inspiration from Wifi Plaza, and tragically Pokemon only went downhill with online compatibility after. Because while technically the online is more fun in gen 8 and 9, it doesn't work.
The games leaked before they came out. Everyone saw concept art of the starters' final evolutions and they were SO MAD that Litten became bipedal. But there were very few surprises in Sun and Moon for people who prowled the reddit, who also seemed to be the least excited about the games.
However, what I don't think you understand is how much LOVE they had. Of all the pokemon games I've been around for the release of, I think Sun and Moon were most unanimously loved. Everyone was talking about the story, and the incredible new designs of the alola pokemon, and yeah they were having a lot of trouble playing online, but people persisted.
When Ultra Sun and Moon came out, people were veeeeery disappointed for three key reasons:
This was a dual release "third version" instead of a sequel. Again, everyone LOVED the story of the original games, by this point it felt that the "third version" idea was dated, and people wanted a damn sequel with their favourite characters! I think BW2 set a very high bar for what the Pokemon team could offer, and unfortunately I don't think they ever met that bar again after they started making 3d games.
It was on the 3DS instead of the Switch. I was NEVER expecting USUM to be Switch games, I knew Pokemon team were not ready for Switch, but for some reason people expected Pokemon Stars to be a Switch game. Everyone was reaaaaally excited for Pokemon Switch after the console launched, but Pokemon has always belonged on the DS, and I felt it had more potential for growth on that console before moving up on the chain. Of course, after the negative reaction to USUM and the begging for Pokemon Switch, Game Freak HAD to start development on Let's Go and Sw/Sh.
The things they'd added into the game were not as impressive as the other Third Versions. Pokemon Emerald and Pokemon Platinum were objective improvements from the original, though I have some things to say about Emerald's pacing. I like the minigames from Ultra, I fell SO in love with the Camera mode!!! Spent so much time fucking around in it and still have a folder in my computer to this day. HOWEVER, the people still yearn for a Battle Frontier! The Battle Factory they put in USUM seems to be based on community, which was already a pain in the ass, and as you know, it's now impossible to play online with others, so RIP to that as well. I like the changes to the Battle Tree, I love Rainbow Rocket, but while Platinum and Emerald were NECESSARY IMPROVEMENTS from the ground up, USUM only improved some of the battles and held down everything else with more, worse cutscenes.
The story was much worse than the original, choosing to cut and change content instead of improve upon what was there. The story of Platinum and Emerald doesn't come across as worse than DP and RS, but EVERYONE thinks the story for USUM is a downgrade. The reason for this is because if Lillie was the true protagonist of the games originally, the Ultra versions tried to cut her down, but only for a couple of her most important scenes. She and Lusamine basically have every scene intact except for their most important, climactic moments. It's like if instead of BW2, they made Pokemon Grey but it was split in half, and instead of being an evil fucko gunning for world domination, Ghetsis was trying to use the power of the two Dragons to stop Kyurem from freezing the world, except he still abused pokemon, and he still abused N from childhood, and N never showed up to become champion and N never realised the truth of pokemon or turned against his father. How terrible would that be?
No remakes or anything special at the end of the gen. For the past few generations we'd either had remakes or sequels, but Gen 7 released USUM and Let's Go. It's debatable whether the Lets Go games are part of gen 7, but I wouldn't consider them remakes the same way that HGSS or ORAS are, and they are CERTAINLY not a favourite with a hardcore Pokemon audience. At least Gen 8/9 had decent DLC and Legends Arceus as a halfhearted apology note, but unfortunately there was no swan song at the end of Generation 7.
I think ultimately that's what made people go from "Gen 7 could be the best yet" to "Gen 7 bad". The launch was very strong, but the followup was the poorest out of almost any gen.
My personal opinion of USUM is it is one of the best pokemon games for general battles, I think it would be a lot more fun to nuzlocke than the original Sun and Moon, but there's a lot of better pokemon games to replay than USUM, especially if you're taking modded into account. I think sun and moon were the most immersive out of the games I've played, at the very least because it had improvements like trainer models in battles without the uncanny as hell stuff you got in the next two gens. I remember the games fondly, even if I do feel bitter about the story changes."
I thought this reply was worth sharing on this blog. I put a lot of effort into it.

This is my take on Mimi from the Nintendo Wii game titled Super Paper Mario. I have been planning to make an 11-Part Mario/(Crossover) Fanfic featuring the Mario characters. It will include characters like "Geno the Legendary Star-Spirit", which was the first character I submitted to DeviantArt and "Mimi... Terror of Gloam Valley".
The Origin Story of Mimi/(Amelia) from my Fanfic-
1. The Good Hearted Amelia finds The Cursed Item Block
2. Amelia becomes a Literal Monster and meets The Count
(If you want to know the 3rd and 4th Parts of Mimi's Origin Story, just visit my DeviantArt page called "unarpan0816".
(This is a longer read, so take breaks if needed.)
1. The Good Hearted Amelia finds The Cursed Item Block:
Now I will go into the origins of the version of Mimi pictured above who from my fan-canon. She was a girl of Beanish decent, (just like Prince Peasley, Fawful and Cackletta from the Mario and Luigi games), who was originally good. Amelia came from an impoverished family in the Bean Bean Kingdom who scavenged for rubies from a cavern to help her family financially.
One day, Amelia found a suspicious-looking mechanical item block in the cavern, that provided her with a seemingly endless rubies as she jumped to hit the item block. Unfortunately, Amelia was not aware that the item block was cursed, the item block at first had two closed eyes that merged into one big red eye, it grew teeth and captured Amelia's head without severing it.
The item block morphed into the shape of her head, Amelia woke up and felt different. She felt more spiteful, greedier and empty inside, she now has a new evil-personality. She eventually took all the rubies from the cavern and her family for herself, she betrayed and abandoned her impoverished family.
2. Amelia becomes a Literal Monster and meets The Count:
Three days later, she woke up to discover she was a freakish giant mechanical spider, evil-personality Amelia went into a tantrum because she lost her pleasant form from the cursed block and attacked a village. Later, Amelia sneezed and somehow switched back to her original good-personality, but was still a giant spider. She began to cry with remorse, knowing she betrayed her family, attacked a village, was a giant spider and could not be her original self anymore. She sneezed again and had her evil-personality back, she went to attack another town.
After she destroyed that town, she came across Count Bleck, who was impressed by Amelia's potential. He gave her the powers of shape-shifting and invincibility, Amelia was able to change back into her original form, she was grateful to Count Bleck and decided to be a minion of his. Count Bleck gave her the nickname "Mimi" and from then on the evil-personality wanted to always keep Mimi as her name. Mimi decided to always stay away from dust due to how it would make her sneeze and she did not want switch back to her original good-personality ever again.
Mimi began to buy more expensive clothes, she pretended to be a princess and dated Prince Peasley for a short time, only to steal part of his family's wealth. She eventually took over Merlee's Mansion in Gloam Valley, (Gloam Valley is in the Muda Kingdom of Sarasaland in my fan-canon and not in a 2D dimension.) She eventually encounters Mario and Peach as it is known in SPM.
(All (except for Amelia) are not my characters, Mimi belongs to Intelligent Systems and Nintendo. Mario, Peach and Iggy Koopa belong to Nintendo).

Game Ownership
In sort of a response to the Ubisoft director of subscriptions where he said that we need to get more confortable not owning games...
Well, reading that interview from GamesIndustry.biz, turns out he never really said that. It's more of an observation of the gaming subscription services, and comparing different views. It's actually a pretty interesting read.
But the negative response to the more clickbait part where the gamers went very much against this from the get go was something that particularly striked me as how I really just didn't feel like I was part of those who responded like this.
I do not care about owning games that much. I may be a owner of retro consoles, games, and about 50 Switch physical games, but the reasons ranges from passion to just practical and economical.
Taking the example of the Switch, what currently makes me attached to physical games are more of how it's usually cheaper in my country (like, first party games day one tend to be 25% off brand new), and the practicality when you live in a household with 2 Switch systems, it's just easier to share the games that way with your family. If I could just buy digitally with the same advantages, I'd just do that.
This view on game ownership has mostly to do with my past of a guy who pirated games and movies like crazy before we got a little more comfortable paying for stuff. But this past also comes with a deeper importance on the presence of data locally. Cloud gaming is something I hate on passionately if the industry keeps going on that as a means to play games exclusively. It would be the kind of thing that would make my heart broken about modern gaming as a whole, but thankfully we're not even close to there, and I suspect we'll never be.
But I could also not need to pay for the games, I don't really see a lack of ownership as a problem on its own. The only thing that matters is if it's practical or not, and that's the part that feels like it tends to be skipped when explained. That's how it went about movies and music.
That practicality is critical, and that is the part that's the most in danger. The big reason why is how companies can decide on a whim what is accessible to suit their needs. That WILL be completely in the process of enshittification due to how companies have to keep growing until it makes no more sense. You don't even need to look very far to understand this, video streaming services are already very good at doing absolutely this, but I also dare say the Game Pass and PlayStation Plus are on a similar boat to a different extent, though.
One of the recent examples of how bad shit is HBO Max's removal of a huge amount of content just for a massive tax write down. There is financial incentive to fuck us all, and I consider the future to do absolutely that in the long term for gaming.
That kind of thing SUCKS. That is what we're actually scared of as a consumer. I hate seeing art being considered as a throwaway product.
I even saw a french article that was so complacent with this and kept saying complete bullshit things like "oh if they remove that game from the service, just take it as an opportunity to play another one" just, fuck off. That's not how I see this kind of service.
I love Nintendo Switch Online, despite a lot of its flaws, and hate on Virtual Console's overall legacy personally. I'm all for ways to allow discoverability and pick the curiosity of people. That's the kind of shit that I love in having some ease of access to catalogs, despite not owning them.
Wasn't it the dream to just access to everything with less money though? Don't tell me otherwise because I wouldn't believe you. I do think there's something nice in this kind of service, but we also need to figure how to keep companies from the inevitable enshittification that will ensue on the constant need for growth beyond any reasonable sense.

AURORA CYCLE CAMP AU i couldn't stop thinking abt this there's so much potential here
BASICALLY there are 4 cabins, each with a pair of counselors.
Auri/Scar (girls cabin)
Fin/Kal (boys cabin)
Ty/Nari (boys cabin, poor Nari)
Zila/Saedii (girls cabin)
Auri
she used to go to the camp when she was younger so she’s like a senior here
friends with everyone
leads the nature hikes
even tho she’s been going to the camp for 10+ years is incapable of making a friendship bracelet more complicated than a fishtail (she’s tried)
head chef!
one night she got really sick and couldn’t cook so fin took over, the result closely resembled a bowl of vomit. everyone ate smores for dinner that night.
her and scar are actually a great pair, they balance each other out and probably get along better than any of the other counselor pairs do
Scar
avoides her duties at all costs
just makes friendship bracelets and gossips about the other cabins
gives the campers relationship advice but they’re all like, eleven
“girl taking your pen!!! the sparkly one too?? i’m getting major red flags, that's such an ick. you need to dump him next recess.”
everyones fav counselor 1000%
surprisingly good at pep talks
always the one that gets called in when there’s camper conflicts
blasts britney spears in the mess hall (speaker is consequently confiscated by tyler)
Kal
came for the service hours, stayed for the found family
surprisingly very responsible and into nature
always the one who gathers the wood for the campfire each night
helps in the kitchen most nights (he maintains that it’s to spend as little time with finn as as possible orrr is it because auri is head chef cough cough)
no one knows anything about him. like anything. where he’s from? what his last name is? how old he is? if he has family? zilch.
has to enforce 98% of the rules bc fin couldn't care less abt disciplining the campers
very passionate about algae??? no one has any idea where that came from
could and would fight off a bear
takes the spiders that get into the cabin back outside in a little cup (while fin is curled up on his bunk screaming)
scar drags him into making friendhsip bracelets with him
has a black nalgene with like 5 half finished bracelets hanging off it that he takes everywhere with him
definitely doesn't make auri bracelets idk why you would think that
Fin
imagine how chaotic he was in the series, times 100
pushes everyone in on lake days and then whines when the campers push him in
“fin, what’s this type of plant called?”    “girl . . . a leaf prolly idk”
tries to sneak his nintendo switch onto the camp (it gets confiscated by a very disappointed tyler)
goes over to the girls cabins a bittt too often to flirt with scar (and annoy auri)
called the top bunk as SOON as he got in that cabin
allergic to everything under the sun so the forest scare the shit out of him (the other counselors have yet to figure out why exactly he signed up for a camp . . in the forest)
CANNOT swim and is terrifiyed of the lake on the campgrounds
again no one knows how tf he got hired
scar's theory is the camp had him signed up as a camper and the system fudged the lists up
Zila
so quiet she blends into the forest on accident
once fin was walking down a trail with rations, zila was just off the trail trying to get a goldenrod sample and started talking to him all of a sudden, not realizing she was completely obscured by a tree to his POV. cue the ration packs flying everywhere and fin running back up the trail screaming
once sat on a log for three. hours. motionless, just watching a stream
goes on very mysterious “nature walks” where no one hears a single thing for her for hours and hours
can identify ever bird call
knows every plant, it’s scientific name, if it’s invasive or native, etc etc
100% wakes nari up to see the stars during a meteor shower (in a very platonic way ofc ofc)
has a first aid kit on her at all times
Tyler
Ty 🤝 Nari
           ^
running that cabin like a boot camp
no bc you will never be able to convince me that their dynamic wouldn’t have been peak
if everyone didn’t have a crush on him, he’d be the counselor everyone complained abt
scar still complains abt him tho (as her sisterly duties require)
actually a boy scout so this is his natural habitat
lovesss ordering people around its like his favorite thing
really demanding but he is also never seen not working on smth so you can’t really get mad at him for it
always starts campfire nights off with some Sun Tzu quote or a #motivational speech
has a trophy shelf in his bunk but its just all the things he's confiscated (the speaker and switch being some of said objects)
Saedii
do what she says. thats it.
is actually pretty chill if you follow the rules, do your chores, don’t get into fights etc.
with that being said, once you screw up, it’s over
shes like a crow she just remembers bro
can remember every camper shes ever had, what the looked like, acted like, every time they messed up etc.
just don’t mess with her
is prepared for every possible situation
bear attack? dw, she’s got a gun. tsunami? she’s trained. wildfire? she’s a volunteer firefighter back home.
doesn't outright say she and kal are related but doesn't not confirm it either
bonded with tyler over their extensive shared knowledge of the camp's allowed procedures in the case of an intruder on the campgrounds
