I am delighted that Newt the Cat has so many new admirers on the internet! (Newt the Cat:)

Now is the perfect time for me to shame him publically.

Let me tell you a fact about Newt the Cat. Newt the Cat has a particular obsession with toilets. Yes, he will drink from them, but more importantly, he will gaze into them-- like an alchemist divining the secrets of a scrying pool.

He will bring offerings to the toilet, usually hair bands, and sometimes, unfortunately, mice, dropping them into the bowl and waiting patiently with his paws on the rim, to see if the vortex will accept them. He has learned that when people sit on the toilet and leave things in it, there is a magic whirlpool that takes them away, and this is deeply entrancing to him.

Each time he brings a vanquished rubber band to drop in the bowl, he is hopeful that it will activate the exciting water feature. This is why everyone in the house has to remember to check for Newt Surprises before using the toilets, and if they lose the game, then Newt gets his wish.

Weretober 2023 Batch Part 1 - Featuring Newts, Cats, Boars and Local Wildlife

It's Weretober! A big month for my worldbuilding project of Beast Fables, as there's so much worldbuilding to do. Now, to break down the rows:

Pets! A Were-Crested Newt takes his pet otter for a walk, and a were-cat hugs her precious Dire Cat, named tibbles. In Urvara, there's a LOT more varieties of domesticated pets, from otters, to monitor lizards, to even miniature hippos!

Mercenary work is a popular profession in Urvara, especially after a big conflict, where many former military werefolk cannot acclimate back to civilian life. This wereboar shows off his scars, while this werelion, decked in gamebson and hardened leather grieves and armed with both kriegsmesser and musket, demonstrates that, even in the age of gunpowder, melee weapons and armor still has a place in a world where every human can turn into anything from a bear to a scorpion.

A Were-Giant Anteater paleontologist finds the discovery of a lifetime: A Dinosaur chimera, one that looks takes the dragon as its chimeric form.

A werefrog gets the fright of its life, as a Capricorn (a chimeric form of Catfish that gets traits from caprines, such as goats) takes its bait and then some!

A young werebull prepares to duel against a Minotaur, for he is a Minotaur wrestler, like his father and grandfather before him.

im sick rn so here are some thominewt hcs ab them being sick

-thomas is insufferable with a capital i. he's grumpy and craves attention but will also point fingers and accuse someone of getting him sick (gally and chuck seem to be targets for accusations)

-minho "is not sick" and WILL fight anyone who says otherwise. this man could be on the verge of passing out and he will STILL deny he's sick. when he finally admits he's sick- he is also insufferable, a natural drama king

-newt immediately knows what to do. he has home remedies on standby. hot tea, lemon, and honey?? on the stove. medicine? all in a cabinet. warm blanket? he's got it covered

-if all three of them get sick at the same time?? the world is ending. they all pile on the couch or the bed and will stay there for hours

-thomas and minho will fight to stay OUT of bed as much as possible, newt will fight to stay IN bed

-bonus- in the glade: minho and newt will continue with their jobs like normal, even if they're on their death beds. these people will not rest until alby puts his foot down and forces them to stop working

so in my mind, the ivy trio is like a spectrum. at one end is Cat Lover. at the other is Dog Lover. minho is at the cat lover end, like ALL the way, because honestly the guy is his own scary dog privileges, and newt is on the dog lover end, again, like ALL the way, because he's like a big sweet dog and needs a pet to emulate that. thomas, however, resides smack dab in the middle, because he's indecisive and cannot figure out what he wants.

so because of this, should these boys have the misfortune of living together (let's say in the safe haven for my own fucking mental health, why not), there will be NO agreements made on what pet to get, until thomas remembers that he has them both genuinely wrapped around his pinkie (interpret that however you'd like) and says "hey guys why don't we just get both"

The One-Handed Girl; A Swahili fairytale about the trials a girl goes through as she deals with the unfettered greed of her older brother.

The Cat and the Cradle; A Dutch legend about a baby and a cat floating in a cradle after a city named Kinderdijk floods.

Tawhaki; A Maori fairytale about the demigod Tawhaki going above and beyond to be reunited with his Sky-fairy wife. (Edith Howes’ version here)

The Sisters Envious of Their Cadette; An Arabic fairytale about two sisters plotting their younger sister's demise.

The Four Skillful Brothers; A German fairytale about four brothers each learning a different trade of skills, and learn to work together once their father puts them to the test.

Gigantic; A planned animated musical film by Disney that ended up being cancelled. It was suppose to be about Jack discovering a world of giants hidden within clouds and befriending an 11 year old giant named Inma who treats him like a living doll.

Newt; A planned animated movie by Pixar that also ended up being cancelled for multiple reasons. It was suppose to be about two blue-footed newts who can’t stand each other being forced by science to save their species from extinction.
