The great thing about being in charge of our own book design stuff is that we can, in fact, decide to go through a ridiculous amount of effort to create custom headers for every chapter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We've gotten about two thirds of the way through Shadow Herald's headers right now. Downside; every time a chapter takes place in a new location, we have to draw that location. Upside; every time we draw a location, we can reuse it later. My gods do the shop interiors take forever.

Dangerous Romance is peak comedy
I got 99 problems, but Dangerous Romance ain't one. It feels like a Thai version of Another Gay Movie because it is squeezing in all the tropes yet taking none of them seriously, which is not a problem in my book.
Not a Problem #1 - Nava & Guy making everything into a competition including turning on the faucet. They got that Love Mechanics color-coded lighting treatment, and that's all I care about.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not a Problem #2 - The Poor Boys treating the Rich Kids like the dogs they are by threatening punishment if they act up and dropping "good boy" casually into the conversation when they do good deeds, then rewarding them. It's puppy play meets praise kink, and I approve of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not a Problem #3 - How Sailom's friends, especially Guy, thought Kanghan was trying to poison them, yet still drank with Nava because if he was going to die, he was going to die the champion.
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #4 - Kanghan not knowing how to express what he is feeling when Sailom questions him after the kiss and expecting the kiss to speak for itself. He thought he was speaking Sailom's love language, but Sailom is clearly an "acts of service" type, while Kanghan is a "words of affirmation" guy.
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #5 - Characters using the bathroom! Every episode, someone goes to the bathroom or uses it as an excuse to escape a dinner where they cannot make eye contact with the boy who kissed him in the bathroom because the kiss was a C- at best and he doesn't know how to tell him that without making him cry since he has a praise kink, and I appreciate it.
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #6 - Kanghan saying that he sucks.
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #7 - Kanghan stating he has to keep trying because practice makes perfect.
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #8 - The tiny smile Kanghan gave when he realized he could go through the bathroom door instead of the front door to get to Sailom. And no, this is NOT an euphemism.
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #9 - How Kanghan stood in the light because he finally figured out his feelings and he wanted to be open and honest about them while Sailom still hid in the dark blue afraid of the way he already loves this unhinged Blue Boy.
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #10 - The pinky promise to be queer
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #11 - The way Kanghan naturally went into Sugar Daddy mode.
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #12 - The dumb looks these two kept giving each other in front of Sailom's friends and God as if no one else existed but each other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not a Problem #13 - Sailom singing JLo's 2001 hit "My Love Don't Cost a Thing" only for Auto to bring that Golden Era Madonna Energy and tell Kanghan that "We are living in a material world, and he is a material girl"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not a Problem #14 - Kanghan liking the way Sailom smells. Kanghan wearing Sailom's clothes. Kanghan responding "no-no" when asked if he is a psycho like a cute little puppy. Kanghan's entire existence, and Sailom's annoyance of how much he loves this guy.
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #15 - Kanghan being a WEAKASS! My family will give outsiders hot shit without any warning, just to watch them take a bite and cry, so I get a deep pleasure watching people suffer their way through eating spicy foods to save face. Like, just take the L my man, so everyone can know Sailom is superior to you in every way! Hence why I love Eddie from Kiseki: Dear to Me and Palm from Never Let Me Go. They like it spicy.
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #16 - Sailom being horny on main when Kanghan took the blame to save Auto.
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #17 - Auto being so tiny compared to the group. Auto getting White Girl Wasted. Auto dancing. Auto refusing to snitch on the group. Auto saying his mom is gonna be soooo upset at him like he is a (queer-coded) killer in the original Scream. Auto saying "NEVER FORGET! NEVER FORGIVE!"
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #18 - Sailom being a gold-star gay when that girl was trying to dance with him, only for Kanghan to come in with a steel chair and demand she leave his gay boyfriend alone.
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #19 - Sailom finally realizing just how crazy Kanghan is when Kanghan wanted to ballroom dance in the bar as a way of declaring to the whole world that they are in love, then Sailom realizing he is VERY into Kanghan's brand of crazy. *see #16*
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #20 - Those handmade cheerleader outfits being so camp (read: fugly), that it brought the queer out of my (hidden) girl couple.
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #21 - Sailom screaming "TROY!" again for the Wildcats in the audience who are "all in this together"
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #22 - Guy not kink-shaming Sailom for his puppy play relationship with Kanghan since he's probably taking mental notes, so he can tame Nava using similar methods.
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #23 - Kanghan hugging Sailom so tightly and THANKING HIM after Sailom said yes to being his boyfriend. See what a good dom can do for a brat through affirmation play? "Good boy" *pat his head*
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #24 - Kanghan's (Perth's) smile. Sailom's (Chimon's) wavy hair. The boys cuddling up in Sailom's bed because Kanghan now needs constant positive reinforcement for his good behavior and he likes the way his boyfriend smells. Kink is really classical conditioning. Smell of boyfriend + Hugs from boyfriend = Who's a good boy? Who's the best boy? Who's my very good boy? *rubs his belly*
Tumblr media
Not a Problem #25 - Saifah being A WHOLE FUCKING PROBLEM all episode! My wild ass theory lives!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
God, I fucking love this show.

Completed my Wolf Quest Six Fanarts challenge! I couldn't do every single character suggested but maybe I'll do a part two sometime in the future! Sadly nobody suggested Nava :( /lh
ID below the cut
[ID: A digitally drawn six fanarts challenge of various characters from the movie Balto 2: Wolf Quest. Each of these is a bust drawing. The second is Boris, a white snow goose with an orange beak and blue bags below his eyes. He has a smiling expression. The third is Saba, a chubby wolfdog who is smiling and looking at the audience. She has a red coat with a cream face and chest. Her eyes are blue. The fourth character is a nameless dark brown she-wolf with slightly lighter markings around her eyes and on her muzzle and chest. She is in a howling pose with her eyes closed. The fifth is Niju, a front-facing dark red wolf with a silver muzzle and chest. He has distinct dark patches around his eyes, long whiskers, a large chin, a snaggletooth, and blue eyes. CHICANO ART MOVEMENT visits: “Rasquachismo” 2024
On Saturday 05/11/24, we visited Huntington Beach Art Center to view “Rasquachismo” in the city of Huntington Beach, California.
Tumblr media
(“Beyond Timeless” by Justin Favela, 2022)
We learned from the mission statement that: “‘Rasquachismo,’ [is] a multi-media exhibition celebrating the aesthetics and transformative power of Lowriders. Featuring work by William Camargo with Alkaid Ramirez, Justin Favela, Stephanie Mercado, Arturo Meza Il, Aaron Moctezuma, Jose Manuel Flores Nava, Alicia Villegas-Rolon, and Cora J. Quiroz.”
Tumblr media
(“Anaheim in Flux” by William Camargo with Alkaid Ramirez, 2024)
“Emerging from the barrios of Southern California, lowriding brought forth a long resistance against the American Dream and dominant idealist norms that attempted to anglicize the young Chicanx individual. Forces of the Anglo-American culture did all it could to disrupt and omit the lowrider. From individual traffic stops to passing county-wide laws, all were attempts to take the lowrider off the streets. Low and slow, their metallic bodies transfigured in response. Now, unapologetically visible, lowriders glisten in candy-colored paint and dance with the aid of hydraulics. The power of lowriding extends beyond the car's aesthetics, however. It has become a rasquachismo expression of Mexican-American, and, eventually, Chicanx identity.”
Tumblr media
(“Highland Park” by Stephanie Mercado, 2023)
A favorite of Robert’s at the “Rasquachismo” exhibit was Stephanie Mercado’s “Highland Park.” Through a little research, we learned that “‘Highland Park’ honors the cultural richness of the area including its history, diversity, and its valuable contributions to the broader arts and culture sector of Los Angeles. Utilizing imagery and icons sourced from the neighborhood, this piece celebrates the enduring local landmarks and showcases the architectural diversity that defines the area. Simultaneously, it pays homage to the artists and art spaces that have played a vital role in making Highland Park a vibrant and lively neighborhood for generations.”
Tumblr media
(Detailed view of “We Can Dream” by Cora J. Quiroz, 2022)
From the museum ephemera, we learned that this painting entitled “We Can Dream” by Cora J. Quiroz is part of a series called “Not Your Typical Rosie.”
The artist states: “I paint women in a way that removes them from being acquiescent muses in typical artworks. From action, body language, and clothing, to expression, I ensure the women I paint have active roles of inspiration, movement, and storytelling. Raised by my mother, I learned about my family’s history through oral tradition. Rather than beng inspred by male-dominated stories in media, I became inspired by the Indigenous and Mexican women of my family, taking spaces where they were not expected.
The simplest acts typical for a man to perform, can often be taboo for women, such as working in the car industry. Despite this, for many years there have been women who have gone against the grain to become whoever they pleased to be, going beyond the WWII icon associated with strong women. These are the stories that inspire my work.”
(“El Cuento de los Panes: A Community Installation Inspired by Dr. Tomás Ybarra-Frausto” organized by the Exhibition Design students at Laguna College of Art and Design, 2024)
The exhibition statement shares that the term rasquachismo was “coined by Chicano scholar and art critic Tomás Ybarra-Frausto to describe ‘an underdog perspective, a view from los de abajo’ (from below) in working class Chicanx communities which uses elements of ‘hybridization, juxtaposition, and integration’ as a means of empowerment and resistance.”
The Huntington Beach Art Center presents “Rasquachismo” curated by Laura Black until June 1st, 2024 with their last programming event of an artist discussion is set for Saturday May 25th, 2024 from 1pm to 2:30pm.

Trans Women Wanted A Movie About Trans-Attracted Men: They Got One
A big complaint about trans-attracted men has been that they’re too chicken shit to come out and own their trans-attraction. Some celebrities have come out acknowledging their attraction to trans women, or have been outed by others. And, at least several trans-attracted men I know are out loud about their orientation. One wrote a book about his attraction. Another has a book in the works.
Still, the trans community generally has expressed dismay that trans-attracted men remain scared to out themselves. Trans women say if more did, society would accept transgender women more. Some trans women even express interest in someone making a movie about the subject.
Years ago, The Crying Game was that movie. It was pretty good as far as it went.
But Richard Gadd’s Baby Reindeer, which debuted on Netflix last month, took the genre to a whole freaking other level. Trans women got their wish, again.
Let’s take a look at what I think is a tour de force in LGBTQ cinema for many, many, many reasons. Over the next few posts, I’m going to weigh in on this magnificent limited series from multiple angles.
Spoil alerts!
Talking about the show without giving away spoilers would be really tough. In this post, I’ll do my best to avoid spoiling the really good parts. I can’t promise I’ll do so in the next posts. You should go watch it, therefore.
Baby Reindeer features a main character named Donny. He’s a bartender and aspiring comedian. One day a woman comes into the bar. But this is no joke. Donny immediately perceives she’s having a hard time. That woman turns out to be a major stalker who ends up stalking Donny for years. Donny’s relationship with this woman seems like the main plot.
But another one overwhelms the stalker story in my opinion. That one, we discover, is Donny’s trans attraction, how he discovered it and what happens as he tries to overcome his MASSIVE, INTENSE and world-shaping shame and self-loathing.
Tumblr media
^^Baby Reindeer: Number one on Netflix. From Actress Nava Mau’s Instagram profile (Photo from Instagram).
It’s a true story
What’s really good about this is Baby Reindeer is a true story. It’s also HIGHLY fictionalized. Still, Gadd, the creator, did a great job fleshing out all the characters, making them believable, nuanced and many-layered. No villains exist here, which is good because villains and victims both are fictions. Everyone creates their reality.
The reason I love that Baby Reindeer is true is that it offers deep insight into the lives of trans-attracted men. Now, not all men who are attracted to trans women are like the guy depicted in the series. Still, of the dozens of men I’ve spoken to or worked with, some things do ring true, things portrayed in the main character’s personality.
At least 60 percent of the men I’ve spoken to or worked with have divergent sexual experiences. Not all of them were “abused”. But many experimented with avant-garde sexual practices. This includes experimenting with male siblings at a young age (which is more common than I thought), fantasizing about sexual acts with their mothers, or even being curious about acts with animals.
At least two of my trans-attracted clients experienced suicidal ideation borne of extreme self-loathing. At a key moment in the series, Donny says he goes through everything he experiences because of his intense self hatred. I’ll revisit the power of self-directed hatred later. It’s important.
The point here isn’t that trans-attracted men are weird or sick. It’s that they came here with a curiosity around a subject most people find so taboo, their beliefs on the subject are intense and likely to trigger harsh judgements. They also cause extreme conservatism towards sex, even though some of those same people who harbor taboo perspectives on these curiosities act out the curiosities themselves. I know this because they often get caught.
Self-loathing common among many
There’s a lot of harsh judgement in Baby Reindeer. Donny does the worst of it, which causes his life trajectory to careen into darkness.
Avid readers of this blog who watch the show will notice that Donny acknowledges as the cause of all the shit that goes down, his extremely intense self-hatred. Again, in one revealing and powerful scene, he admits loving his self-hatred more than anything else, including other people, including himself.
That’s a powerful acknowledgment.
Many trans-attracted men share this powerful hatred. It may not be as intense as it is portrayed in Donny’s life. After all, the story is highly fictionalized. But it’s still there in many trans-attracted men and still intense. That intense emotion always attracts circumstances matching the vibration underneath hatred. And many people have self hatred going on in them. Especially transgender women.
So when watching the show it should be no surprise to anyone that Donny experiences all that he does: failure in his relationship with a cis woman; failure in his dreams to become a comedian; rape at the hands of a male predator; a crazy stalker, and, generally, a fucked up life. It’s all fascinating to watch, painful at times, but so spot on about how the Universe works.
Self-loathing is what makes people “victims”. Remember, there aren’t any victims because people draw to them through their beliefs experiences they live through. “Victims” are vibrational matches to “perpetrators”. Together, they perform a dance, a dance that can destroy and even end in death.
Tumblr media
Lives created through self-loathing
Such experiences attempt to alert the person to what’s going on in them. No one can create an experience outside their persistent beliefs. That’s why we encourage clients to clean up their beliefs. Doing so can dramatically improve one’s life experience. Especially in love.
But if a person holds beliefs like Donny does, that person’s experience will look much like the character’s life. The experiences will start as much less intense. Ignored though, and they will increase in intensity. The person will then feel unsatisfied or “unlucky”. In that dissatisfaction, they’ll complain about their life. They’ll see only the worst happening. And in that focus, they’ll invite even more unfortunate experiences.
This often plays out in comments to this blog. I’ll offer absolutely overwhelming evidence the majority of people support trans people, for example, and nearly every commenter will double down on their focus. A focus on things proving their beliefs that the world is against them is “true”. Even though ample evidence shows it’s not.
What those people don’t understand is, that focus is exactly why they experience these experiences. And no one need experience them! Except those who are matches to those experiences.
Getting what they wanted
Baby Reindeer is an amazing movie about trans attraction. And I haven’t even mentioned the spectacular performance delivered by the beautiful transgender actress Nava Mau. I recommend every trans woman watch Baby Reindeer. Every trans-attracted man should too. Maybe those men will see themselves in the Donny character and do something that will help them change their own life experiences.
There’s so much more I can write about this spectacular series. And I’m going to do so in the next post. In the meantime, go watch it. It’s on Netflix.
If you have seen it, share your perspective. What did you think? One client who watched it, watched all seven episodes in one night. Afterwards he could only text me one word: Fascinating.
Transgender women have been asking for a movie like this for a long time. Well, they got one.

Song 1: "Beautiful Liar" - Beyoncé feat. Shakira
Song Introduction:
“Beautiful Liar” is a song by Beyoncé and Shakira, released in 2006 as the only single from the deluxe edition of Beyoncé's album, B'Day. The mid-tempo track combines Shakira's Latin and Arabic styles with Beyoncé's contemporary hip-hop and R&B influences. Thematically, the song revolves around female empowerment, with the protagonists singing about being charmed by the same man but choosing not to compete for his attention. The collaboration received positive reviews from critics, earning Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations and winning an Ivor Novello Award. Commercially, it peaked at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 and reached number one in several European countries. The music video, directed by Jake Nava won the MTV Video Music Award for Most Earthshattering Collaboration in 2007. The success of “Beautiful Liar” contributed to its inclusion in Beyoncé's world tour setlist, The Beyoncé Experience, in 2007.

Stuart Hall, “What is this ‘Black’ in Black Popular Culture?”
Stuart Hall, in his essay, “What is this “Black” in Black Popular Culture?” describes the idea of the difference in the struggle over cultural hegemony– ruling maintained through ideological or cultural means– found within the positive margins of postmodern culture. More specifically, Hall argues that a mix of original African heritage and the experiences of the black diaspora, has given rise to black culture, often seen through style, music, and the arts. To connect to “Beautiful Liar,” Hall’s main argument in the essay is centered around the idea that popular culture is “where we discover and play with the identifications of ourselves, where we are imagined, where we are represented, not only to the audiences out there who do not get the message but to ourselves for the first time,” (113). I find this argument to be apparent in Beyoncé’s music video “Beautiful Liar” featuring Shakira because the spontaneity in the choreography and the collaborative spirit between the two singers contribute to the video’s exploration of black popular culture. We see Beyoncé exploring the identification of herself in the video through the lyrics, where she shows the power of women staying united, as well as through her appearance and choice of music, where she shows her culture. All of this aligns with Hall’s argument that I quoted above, in that Beyoncé is playing with her identification, how she is imagined and represented.
Tumblr media
Henry Louis Gates, “The Blackness of Blackness: A Critique of the Sign and the Signifying Monkey”
Henry Louis Gates’ essay and the music video for “Beautiful Liar” by Beyoncé featuring Shakira can be related in the context of exploring African-American cultural expression and identity. In his essay, Gates discusses the concept of signifyin(g), a literary form rooted in African American traditions, involving repetition, cultural actions, and imitation that shape blackness in literature. I found this to be similar to the cultural expressions seen in the music video, where Beyoncé, who is African American, and Shakira, who is Latina, draw on their respective cultural backgrounds to create a mix and unique visual and musical experience. This can be seen through Beyoncé’s incorporation of hip-hop and more contemporary dance elements and Shakira through her inclusion of belly dancing. This mixing and merging of cultural elements in the video aligns with Gates’ concept of signifying as both artists symbolically express and signify their cultural identities through their music and performances. They use these cultural elements not only to entertain but also to symbolize their identities and celebrate the richness of their respective cultural backgrounds. And to go a step further, we see throughout the video, and specifically closer to the end of the video, the two singers appear to be mirroring one another, and sharing these aspects of their cultures. All in all, the music video for "Beautiful Liar" can be seen as a manifestation of the concept of signifyin(g), where cultural identities are expressed and signified through artistic collaboration and performance.

Song 2: "Formation" - Beyoncé
Song Introduction:
"Formation" is a celebrated R&B song by Beyoncé from her album Lemonade. Released in 2016, it’s known for its cultural celebration and references to Beyoncé’s Southern black identity. Critics praised its lyrics, production, and vocal performance, naming it the top song of 2016 and the decade by various publications. The song's music video, which premiered alongside the song, is directed by Melina Matsoukas, and showcases black pride and Southern culture, earning critical acclaim and being hailed as one of the greatest music videos of all time by Rolling Stone. Along with that, Beyoncé performed this at the Superbowl Halftime show, where Entertainment Tonight interviewed her afterward, Beyoncé saying "I wanted people to feel proud and have love for themselves." However, the song sparked controversies, with conservative commentators accusing Beyoncé of anti-police and anti-American messaging, leading to boycotts and protests. Despite the controversies, "Formation" became a protest anthem for movements like Black Lives Matter and the Women's March and has been studied at educational institutions for its cultural significance.
Music Video: "Formation" - Beyoncé
youtube
Stuart Hall, “What is this ‘Black’ in Black Popular Culture?”
In the music video, we see a celebration and representation of black culture, incorporating various cultural elements, historical references, and symbolic imagery. In this music video, Beyoncé utilizes her platform to assert her identity and embrace her cultural heritage, challenging dominant narratives and stereotypes about being black. The music video shows diverse representations, from scenes depicting New Orleans culture and traditions to more powerful shots referencing historical events like Hurricane Katrina and the Black Lives Matter movements.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These representations emphasize the range and richness of black experiences, echoing Hall’s idea of cultural formations stemming from the convergence of multiple traditions of dominant and subordinate positions. Along with that, “Formation” is a place where Beyoncé explores and asserts her identity, both externally to the audience and, importantly, internally, to herself. This directly connects with Hall’s idea that popular culture is where individuals discover and play with identifications of themselves. Overall, I see Beyoncé’s “Formation” music video aligning with Stuart Hall’s concepts by presenting a multifaceted representation of black culture and engaging with historical and contemporary aspects while actively contributing and changing the current dialogue and portrayal of being black in popular culture.
Tumblr media
Henry Louis Gates, “The Blackness of Blackness: A Critique of the Sign and the Signifying Monkey”
Henry Louis Gates, in his essay “The Blackness of Blackness: A Critique of the Sign and the Signifying Monkey,” focuses on the concept of signifyin(g), which refers to a verbal strategy within African American culture that involves the indirect expression and exploitation of the symbolic meanings of words. It involves a practice of linguistic interaction that leads to a gap between the word’s literal meaning and the interpretation of the word. I found that in Beyoncé’s music video. “Formation” the concept of signifying can be interpreted throughout. The video is filled with rich symbols and references that signify aspects of black culture. It shows New Orleans culture, as well as more historical events/movements like Hurricane Katrina and the BLM movement. Along with that, we see through the lyrics and visuals that show Beyoncé's pride in her black heritage and roots, asserting her identity boldly; there are lyrics or clips of soul food, black dance groups, black church community, black women's hairstyles, et cetera. All of this is an example of Gates’ idea of signifying because what we see are just the signs, but with exploration, these hold a much deeper meaning.
Discussion Questions:
Hall says that popular media “is a theater of popular desires, a theater of popular fantasies. It is where we discover and play with the identifications of ourselves, where we are imagined, where we are represented, not only to the audiences out there who do not get the message, but to ourselves for the first time.” Do you agree with this? If so, where do you see this being true in popular media (TV, movie, music, et cetera.) today? If not, what do you think popular media is?
Henry Louis Gates talks about “signifyin(g),” a verbal strategy in African American culture. Can you identify ways people use indirect expressions or cultural references in today's media or conversations to convey deeper meanings or messages?
In what ways does contemporary popular culture provide platforms for marginalized racial identities to be represented and explored, aligning with Stuart Hall’s discussion on the exploration of identities? Can you think of instances in recent media where underrepresented racial groups showcase their identities and experiences?

Anthony Lyons - Film project Critical Essay
LMD09126
40496618
Anything For You
Team and roles:
Mark-Antony Marini – Writer/Director
• Anthony Lyons – Producer
• Fionntan Mccaughey – DOP
• Max Brodbeck – 1 st AC
• Jason Binder – Lighting Assistant
• Aisling Keane - Production Designer
• India Marshall - Art Department Assistant
• Melanie Nava Urribarri – Editor
• Michael Hood – Sound Design
• Yat-hin Lee - Sound Recordist/Design
• Sean Dinwoodie – Boom Operator
Proposal Intentions
I was initially drawn to this project having worked with Mark-Antony before. I trust him as a screenwriter and also a collaborator. I think he’s very forward with his ideas and articulates them very well. At the same time, he’s very open to other ideas and establishes open communication to produce the best project possible. I was also drawn to the idea of working on another genre film after having worked on documentaries and drama and I thought this would be an exciting challenge. The film being an allegory for borderline personality disorder and the way in which mental health affects a person and the relationships that they have with the people close to them really resonated with me deeply and I wanted to try and develop this idea further. I felt the genre fit well with the synopsis. The vampirism that Damian struggles with reflects how people with BPD and other mental health issues can often view themselves as a ‘monster’. They can feel undeserving of love and the love they receive they can sometimes reject. This was a relatively unique approach to portraying mental health which has often suffered from poor portrayals within the media.
Critique of Process
Producing is a role I’ve never really had before. There were things I was happy with but there were many moments where I felt disappointed in my performance. My biggest weakness as a producer was definitely my difficulty with communication. Communication has always been a problem for me however, the issues became more prominent with this role.
It meant that progress was probably slower than it should have been. We did not have a concrete crew until close to the shoot, which to be fair was partially due to our original crew having other commitments but there was the issue with the make-up artist. She did a wonderful job but we only managed to recruit her just a week before the shoot which meant that the vampire make-up was not as immersive as it could have been. We were originally planning for the make-up to include prosthetics and a bald cap but we ended up not having the time. This in turn affected other aspects of the film like the overall visual look. In general, I believe that every aspect could have been improved with a stronger producer. If I had spent more time with Aisling then we could have tested out different methods for both the make-up and the set design. I should have looked for help in areas I was having difficulty with, e.g. locations, etc.
I definitely was more focused as the semester began. I reached out to companies in Edinburgh that offered filming space for hire and I looked into other rental websites, however, unfortunately many of our options were beyond our price range. I also enquired with anyone I had the contact details of but unfortunately, with the premise of our film, I don’t think many people were keen. I sent out casting calls to as many places as possible. I posted notices on facebook, Backstage and I also printed off posters to hang in various locations. This led to a surprising amount of actors expressing interest which was great in the long term as it meant that we could audition the actors and choose the actors that best suited the roles rather than having to settle for a particular actor.
I am comfortably happy with my input on set during the shooting days. I ensured that the cast and crew were comfortable and I believe I did a sufficient job keeping the cast and crew organised. I essentially acted as a runner, helping out in almost every technical area. The shooting days both ended ahead of schedule and it was a fairly simple process to turn over to the next shooting day.
Critique of Final Work
I think overall, it was a successful film. Mark-Antony brought a script that was both touching and engaging. However, viewing the final project, I think some of the issues that presented themselves in pre-production and the production itself are apparent in the final work.
The performances were probably the strongest aspect of the film. Despite not having much experience in directing, Mark-Antony did an extremely good job rehearsing with the actors.
I do wish we had a few more rehearsal sessions but unfortunately, organising rehearsal time can be a complicated procedure.I think Mark-Antony had a very strong vision on where he wanted to take these characters. Despite the horror aspect of the film initially seeming so prominent due to the concept, Mark-Antony wanted to make it very clear that this was a romance first. While watching the film, I never lost focus on the character’s emotional connection to each other. The horror aspect adds more depth to the film but it never distracts from the romantic focus. I feel as though the chemistry between actors was also portrayed surprisingly well on-screen. I’m glad that myself and Mark-Antony pushed for getting through auditions as early as possible as this meant we could get to know the actors and it gave the actors the opportunity to grow more comfortable with each other. The dialogue that Mark-Antony has written has fulfilled the initial idea in the sense that it does display this damaged relationship and the struggling mental health of Damian’s character. The gothic horror aspect could very easily be altered and it would still be an adequate portrayal of mental health due to the way the script has been written.
What Aisling and India managed to do with the space. I think there are a lot of nice touches in the latter scene where some of the set dressing is broken to give the impression that Damian attempted to rejuvenate the space with what he had available to him. Also the posters gave some nice insight into Damian’s character even if it were background dressing.
My only regret is that I did not either find a more suitable location or push for production design tests. I felt at times that we were restricted in terms of production design by the location and I think it shows in the final film. This is something that can be credited to my ability as a producer. I struggled to source a location that would fit the initial plan. However, I think it still works for the film. It meant that we had complete control over the location and could set dress it in any way we desired.
I think that the lack of coverage in some areas is slightly off putting. I made the decision to complete the shoot within two days instead of the initial three we had planned. This was due to the fact we were ahead of schedule and would only end up with about two or three shots left for the final day. I should have maintained the original plan as it would have meant that we could have reviewed the footage to ensure that we had covered everything. That one shot of ‘Damian’ rising is an example of this that I believe could have fit in something to make the action seem less static.
Fiontiann did a good job with the cinematography, there are many shots that I really admire and I think he was a great addition to the team. The shots that followed Damian’s shadow creeping along the wall and the shot of Damian’s eyes were especially commendable. I’m glad that we spent the time with fiontiann to have a test shoot that was focused on nailing the more complicated shots separate from blocking. This meant that for all the problems that arose during pre-production, the shooting days both went fairly smoothly without any real problems. We managed to capture anything more complicated with ease as we had already prepared.
I’m especially happy with how vastly different the two scenes look from each other. Booking out as much lighting equipment as possible ended up being incredibly beneficial even though we did not use all of it. It allowed the first half of the film to feel successfully atmospheric and combined with the sound design, I think successfully presents itself as tense and suitable for a ‘horror’ experience. The second half of the film has a very different atmosphere. There’s almost a dreamlike quality to the scene, reflecting the mending of this strained relationship.
The sound design really provides an unsettling backdrop for the film. I especially believe it is strong for the first half of the film. The wind gradually grows more intense as the scene continues which increases this tension as the scene plays out. The chains sound appropriately heavy which really expresses the chain’s weight. During the second half, the audio can be slightly inconsistent. The background noise seems to get louder and can cut out depending on what audio track is being used which unfortunately is noticeable. However, I am very happy with the rest of the sound design.
I wish I had been more forward in the editing process. There are certain things that I possibly would have changed. There was one shot in particular that was cut in slightly early, that being the close up of Damian reacting to Gabriel entering the room. The shot of Damian’s shadow took priority. Overall, Mel did a good job with editing the film together, especially since she does not have much editing experience.
Overall, while I am happy with the final outcome, I am disappointed with my performance as a producer. I do think most of this was all down to my lack of experience and confidence. I think if I wanted to attempt a producing role it should not have been at this stage in the course, especially since my peers are settling into their preferred roles. While I do not think I would ever choose to produce again, this has significantly developed my organisational and social skills. Since acting as a producer I have more fully understood the connections between each department and the vital importance of constant communication and preparation.
I am interested to see how the film progresses going forward. We plan to take another look at the picture edit and refine certain things and we also plan to infuse an original score to prepare it for festivals.

Raipur News
Latest Raipur news on September 03, 2023.
Calling tribals vanvasi is an insult, according to Rahul in poll-bound Chhattisgarh.
Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi slammed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP on Saturday, stating that referring to tribals as 'vanvasi' is an insult to them.
"The true meaning of tribal is the original inhabitants of this country, those who originally owned and have first rights to the land, water, and forests of the country." "However, the Bharatiya Janata Party has coined a new term for tribals - 'vanvasi,' which implies that tribals should be restricted to the jungles only," Rahul Gandhi said while addressing a meeting of party members in Raipur, the capital of poll-bound Chhattisgarh.
However, this is not the first time Rahul Gandhi has expressed interest in the 'Vanvasi and Adivasi' issue. He has been addressing the issue since the RSS referred to tribal communities as 'Vanvasi' rather than 'Adivasi' in 2022. When Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra arrived in Madhya Pradesh in November, he chastised the BJP and RSS for using the name 'Vanvasi' for tribals and demanded an apology from them. During last year's state elections in Karnataka and Gujarat, he also emphasized the subject.
Speaking at a government event in Chhattisgarh on Saturday, where assembly elections are set to take place later this year with Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana, Rahul Gandhi said it was the Congress government that implemented PESA.
"The BJP wants tribals to stay in the jungles, but we say you should have the right to 'jal-jungle-zameen' (water-forest-land) as well as the freedom to pursue your dreams." This is the basic difference between the BJP and the Congress, according to Rahul Gandhi.
"Before every election, BJP leaders come out with the number of seats they will win," he said, "but the people of Karnataka have shown that they have the right list only and voted for the Congress." He asserted that the Karnataka results would be replicated in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, where assembly elections are scheduled for November this year.
He cited a recent news story on Adani in which he stated that because of Adani's tight relationship with the Prime Minister, he (Adani) has sent thousands of crores of rupees to other countries and obtained greater stock market values. "This money isn't entirely Adani's. It belonged to someone else, but PM Modi refused to launch an investigation. Adani is currently acquiring infrastructure, airports, and possibly even trains. Is everything handed to only one person?" According to Rahul Gandhi.
According to the Congress politician, Chhattisgarh is the heart of India, and young people should commit to making it the country's logistical center by constructing the necessary infrastructure so that things are processed and made here and then shipped to other states and nations.
Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP-led Centre of working for the welfare of the country's 2-3 billionaires on Saturday, saying states run by his party will have a government of the poor, not Adani's. Gandhi told a Rajiv Yuva Mitan Club convention in Nava Raipur, Chhattisgarh, that the country cannot advance with hatred and violence. It will continue to march forward by bringing everyone together in love, he said.

Introvigne's silence on the most important "religious freedom" case in Italy
By Miguel Martinez November 29, 1998 Article source http://www.kelebekler.com/cesnur/txt/jw2.htm
At the beginning of November 1998, the most important event in recent years involving "religious minorities" took place in Italy. Twenty senators belonging to six parties of both the ruling centre-left coalition and the opposition presented an urgent request to the government [1] not to sign an "understanding" with the Jehovah's Witnesses, accused of "not being a religious confession, indeed actually being a business enterprise which has already swindled dozens of people".
The document says that «they are a cult [setta] which brainwashes [plagia] its members with subliminal messages, demands behaviour contrary to the law, puts its followers who do not obey on trial and gathers confidential information for purposes of blackmail.»
(Amedeo Cortese, "Una lobby cattolica contro i Testimoni di Geova", Il Messaggero, 15.11.98, p. 7.)
The attitude of Massimo Introvigne, the director of CESNUR, is interesting. One must remember that he:
has repeatedly upheld that Scientology should be recognised as a religion;
devoted the September CESNUR conference to the rights of "religious minorities";
criticises the use of the word "cult";
denies "brainwashing" exists;
claims that "behaviour contrary to the law" may be justified for religious reasons.
It should also be remembered that the Jehovah's Witnesses are the most important "religious minority" in Introvigne's own country (Muslims are more numerous than JW's, but they are nearly all foreign nationals). And never before has there has been such a serious conflict in this country about the recognition of a "new religion."
So one would expect Introvigne to react with even more passion than he did when some young Germans "threatened" not to go and see a film with Scientologist John Travolta as an actor. [2] At the time, he wrote:
«We urge the heads of the government at federal and state levels in Germany and Belgium, as well as all genuine friends of religious liberty, to take immediate action to ensure that this campaign of hate is stopped without delay.»
In the far more important case of the Italian Jehovah's Witnesses, however, Introvigne has kept silent, at least so far - seventeen days after the senators submitted their document. Of course he may well post a note on the issue (especially after we publish this essay), but we suspect that the language will be less emotional than it was when he was defending Scientology.
The reason is quite simple. Although there has been strong grass roots opposition from former members and relatives to recognition of the Jehovah's Witnesses, it is a fact that nearly all the senators who are opposing recognition of the Jehovah's Witnesses are closely connected to the Catholic Church. Not only: many belong to the CCD, the right-wing Catholic party. Now, Introvigne is a member of the board of this party, which must have conferred with him before taking this momentous decision in his very field. And before using words which Introvigne has spent years fighting against, such as "cult" and "brainwashing".
We are left wondering whether Introvigne will decided to stay on the right side of the Vatican by keeping silent, or will resign from his position in the CCD and take on the full defence of the Jehovah's Witnesses, in keeping with the ideas he expressed in September at the CESNUR conference on "religious minorities."
In either case, the outcome will be amusing.

Understanding The Seven Chakras
In traditional Indian medicine, the term "chakra"—which translates to "wheel" or "vortex" in Sanskrit—refers to the "force centres" of the human body. According to practitioners, our body contains seven master chakras that extend from the top of our heads to the base of our spines. According to this theory, your body has subtle energies that are connected to your physical and emotional wellness but that may be disturbed by external factors like stress. It is believed that it is possible to realign your energies in seven key areas and improve your general welfare by manipulating these energies with crystals.
Tumblr media
Here are the seven chakras and information on what each is believed to represent:
Head Chakra
Your head's crown chakra is situated there or just above it. It is said to be connected to your spiritual self, your creativity, and your imagination. If it isn't working properly, it may show up as sadness, OCD-like symptoms, and disorientation. It is said that crystals like amethyst, ametrine, and danburite can assist this Chakra alignment.
Third Eye/Brow Chakra
The equilibrium, sinuses, and focus are all said to be related to your brow chakra, which is situated in the middle of your forehead. If you experience headaches and vision issues, you can identify the reason and fix it by utilizing crystals like celestite and fluorite.
Mouth Chakra
The throat chakra is believed to be primarily connected to communication. Crystals like Angelite and amazonite are said to be able to treat conditions including asthma, physical issues with your neck, and difficulty expressing your emotions.

Coronary Chakra
Your heart and chest, as well as emotions like love, understanding, and forgiving, are all directly related to this chakra. There is a claim that crystals like Atlantisite and Emerald may treat conditions including lung illness, high blood pressure, and issues with the arms and hands.
Coronary Chakra
You may find this chakra between your ribs and belly button. It has to do with your stomach, your digestive system, your confidence, your sense of humor, and other things. Moonstone and quartz crystals can aid with issues including allergies, poor self-esteem, and stomach ulcers.
Nava/Sacral Chakra
The fluids in your body as well as strength and creativity are most frequently connected to this chakra. Chakra jewelry crystals like amber and rhodochrosite should be used to treat issues with anxiety and guilt as well as bladder issues. Candles with aromatherapy are a wonderful way to unwind and expand your chakras.
Bottom Chakra
At the base of your spine is where your base chakra is located. Your neurological system, as well as your vigor and patience, are under its influence. Constipation and bone issues should be helped by crystals like garnet and haematite.

NAGOMI NAVA 🌞
[ID: A vibrant full-colour drawing of Nagomi Nava from the Hellmouth Sunbeams against a black background with a thick pink frame. Nagomi is a Japanese woman with her black hair in a ponytail over her shoulder, and she’s looking at the audience, facing to the left. She has a stern expression on her face, and in place of her eye on the right, there’s a black smoky eldritch fire with red eyes over the top. She’s holding a brown bat over her shoulder, and a baseball in her other hand, and she’s wearing a vertically striped pale yellow baseball uniform, with shorts and a cropped shirt that have an embroidered sun and the number 8. The smoke from her eye is vaguely obscuring the yellow letters N A V A at the top of the black background. End ID.]
