Hans Makart, The Death of Cleopatra, 1875.
Liechtenstein, The Princely Collection
Hans Makart was a 19th-century Austrian academic history painter, designer, and decorator. He is best known for his influence on Gustav Klimt and other Austrian artists, but in his own era he was considered an important artist himself and a celebrity figure in the high culture of Vienna and attended with almost cult-like adulation.
Makart was the son of a chamberlain at the Mirabell Palace in Salzburg, Austria, born in the former residence of the prince-archbishops of Salzburg, the city in which Mozart had been born. Initially, he received his training in painting at the Vienna Academy between 1850 and 1851 from Johann Fischbach. While in the Academy, German art was under the rule of a classicism, which was entirely intellectual and academic—clear and precise drawing, sculpturesque modelling, and pictorial erudition were esteemed above all. Makart, who was a poor draughtsman, but who had a passionate and sensual love of color, was impatient to escape the routine of art school drawing. For his fortune, he was found by his instructors to be devoid of all talent and forced to leave the Vienna Academy.

Just some of the flowers I took photos of in Austria during my family vacation last summer. A lot of these were in around the Mirabel Palace Gardens and were lovely to see. I really enjoyed the older part of Salzburg, definitely something I recommend people get the chance to witness for themselves at least once. There's a lot to do, enough that what me and my family had planned took us roughly two days.
I'm happy to say that this is the first day of spring. I'm looking forward to the warmer weather (although not the summer heatwaves), it'll be a good time to witness everything coming into full bloom again.
Cheers!

"Do...do you mean it?" Seven year old Mirabel asked with a small sniffle as she looked up at her mama who kissed her head.
"Of course I mean it, my precious jewel. They're all waiting for you at the palace." Usagi said hiding her rage at the Madrigals behind her need to reassure her baby girl.
"B-But I'm... I'm giftless, useless! I don't deserve a birthday." Mirabel said repeating what her grandmother and eldest sister had told her earlier that week, maybe not in those words but Mirabel knew enough to know what they were really saying.
"Oh my sweet princess." Luna nuzzled the small child's face softly and gave her a kitty kiss on the nose that made Mirabel giggle.
"Don't listen to whatever teme-baka said that my little jewel. You are so so special, so amazing. And I am so lucky to have you. Of course you deserve a birthday. And your nee-chans and I are gonna make this the best birthday." And every birthday after this would be just as special and made even better. Usagi couldn't believe the family her precious baby girl was reborn to didn't see her for the amazing priceless princess she was.
Well they'd make sure she never doubted just how loved she was. Usagi knew she was going to spoil her baby girl, and Setsuna had always spoiled the princess, but Usagi has a feeling that all of the others would spoil their little princess more than ever before. Even grumpy Luna would probably spoil the princess...as if Usagi hadn't found her advisor napping in Mirabels room to watch over her as she slept.
"Are you ready to go my priceless treasure? You have a cake and presents and so many hugs waiting for you." Usagi asked softly and she felt the small cautious nod against her shoulder. Sharing a glance with Luna Usagi knew that one day when they were able to bring up the Madrigals treatment of the princess, well Usagi never forgot anything involving her children and Luna had a very good memory and a protective streak as wide as any senshis.
Some cat scratches were the least of what they'd get from the royal advisor.
WHY ARE THEY BEING MEAN TO HER WHATTT o(╥﹏╥)o(งᵒ̌皿ᵒ̌)ง⁼³₌₃
Shootout to Usagi (and Setsuna and Luna and the other senshi's) for being there because SOME PEOPLE COULDN'T. I'm not gonna say any names. But like??? Why were Alma and Isabela so damn salty 😭 like its not even their birthday, and is it really that serious??? PROJECTING MUCH???
I lob drawing them...so much...
Tumblr media
Dunno know why I gave Mira a moon as well. Like to think it appears and glows brighter whenever Mirabel’s on Earth and Usagi is close by. Same with Antonio 🤓☝️
ALSO HI KHAJITTTT 🌚🌚🌚

The Villainess Needs her Tyrant (Webcomic)
Created by: Il ta hong / Silver linging
Genre: Romance
The Villainess Needs her Tyrant is actually pretty good, at least to a certain point. Mirabelle is a very cool and strong protagonist, with her main motive on vengeance, which she's able to pull off very well, at least until it breaks away. The various characters with their own types of motivations was fun as well, though I did think that the ending felt a bit rushed. The male yanderes in this one are the Tyrant himself and Xavier the bad guy. The webcomic is finished at 70 chapters currently.
The story starts out with Maribelle kissing the tyrant as an act of revenge on her cousin Arinelle as she likes him. The story reveals her motive of her revenge, with Arinelle tricking her into moving in with her after the death of her parents, only to have the uncle steal all of her parent's inheritance years later. She later learns that her uncle is planning to cause treason against the emperor, and Arinelle ends up poisoning her as they have no need for her anymore. After reincarnating, Maribelle does everything she can to get revenge on Arinelle, from back talking her, to of course kissing the emperor. The emperor brings her in for kissing him and for eavesdropping on their conversation. Soon after, Maribelle gets a marriage proposal from the emperor and ends up living in the palace. She walks in on the emperor killing someone before meeting with his two advisors, Ashil and Kir. Kir tries to interrogate why the emperor didn't kill Mirabelle and has instead taken an interest in her. The emperor catches Kir interrogating Maribelle and stabs him, only for Maribelle to save him and she reveals that she will use him to gain revenge on Arinelle's family. After injuring herself in an attempt to test Kir, she ends up meeting the doctor, Ashil Erigale whom will be one of the main antagonists in the story later. The emperor accepts being Maribelle's weapon of revenge in return for becoming only the emperor's (basically becoming the empress). She ends up confronting her uncle about their family's treason against the throne which leads to the emperor cutting his leg for his uncle mocking the idea that Maribelle might become empress. Arinelle and Maribelle meet up where Maribelle spits her contempt at her, recalling memories of the past, before saving her from falling from the bridge. She tells the emperor about her relationship with Arinelle and eventually meets up with her hated aunt, who was one of the conspirers who killed his mother. After telling the emperor about her family's soon treason, she declines being the empress, stating that she is not a good person, only to have the emperor stomp away while Ashil comes to comfort her. The commander, Zaylin Mahd returns and is assigned as the palace guard captain basically to protect Maribelle, as the current knight Peregrine is going to find the crown prince's whereabouts. Maribelle and the emperor dance before meeting the emperor's aunt with her trying to get her to increase her influence. We finally meet Xavier Rodane, the emperor's cousin, which reminds Maribelle of one of her childhood friends. We get some backstory on Zaylin and Zaylin offers to watch over Maribelle when she goes into the hunting grounds so she doesn't get hurt as there are reports of people getting killed during the competition. Xaiver and the emperor meet each other at the castle, allowing Xaiver and Maribelle to spend time talking with each other. Maribelle figures out that Xaiver is indeed the childhood friend that she recalled from before leaving him to warn Maribelle not to trust anyone in the palace. Maribelle starts to gain memories to what seems like another past she had. We find out that Xaiver and Arinelle are working together and Arinelle ends up shoving Maribelle into the river after they have a dispute, but luckily the emperor is able to save her soon after. While leaving the hunting grounds, someone tries to assassinate them with arrows. Suspecting Xavier, Maribelle asks for the emperor to fake her death for a day to see who exactly was trying to assassinate her. While initially the emperor is reluctant, she hides Maribelle in a cave. We find out that Xaiver actually planned this to frame Arinelle, and we see that he is also in cahoots with Ashil as he too wants to get rid of Arinelle's family. The emperor comes to visit Maribelle in the cave and keeps her warm. Meanwhile, Ashil is caught by the knight and Ashil admits that he's a double agent for the emperor. She recalls her memory of seducing the emperor in a previous life so that her family could betray him.
We get a flashback of the emperor getting beat up by Baldwin, the Crowne Prince, leading to his death. However, it seems that the emperor, much like Maribelle actually ended up regressing to the past, leading him to become a tyrant, as he trusted nobody at least, until he saw Maribelle again. Maribelle returns to the palace the next day lying about being abducted to shake Arinelle. Kar also uses a spell that cuts off years of his life to see that people will be dying soon. They find out where the crossbows are from and are tracking them down, using this opportunity of Maribelle almost dying for the emperor to kill a ton of people. Maribelle throws Arinelle into the river and we get a flashback from Xavier about how the two met when they were younger, dressing up as a girl so that he could hang out with Maribelle. Although Arinelle does not die, Xavier still contemplates on killing her afterwards and his aunt continues to try to push Xavier into killing Maribelle. The emperor finds out that the uncle is in cahoots with the crown prince thus forcing him out of his high position and tries to get Maribelle to talk to Arinelle. Maribelle does eventually do so with her in the castle dungeon and making her choose to poison herself or be tortured. Arinelle ends up pushing away the poison, thus allowing the emperor to come in and force her to live through her past lives and her actions, seeing just how much Maribelle actually cared for Arinelle in her previous life. Arinelle feels grief for her actions, so much so that she asks the emperor to kill her which he does quickly. The emperor brings the news to Maribelle then asks her to marry him to which she agrees. We then get a flashback about his previous life married to her, where the two seemed to live a cold marriage together before eventually accepting her betrayal. He was given another life thanks to the god (cloud? god?) and lived two more lives (one from overworking) and the current one where he was given an item that allows him to see their past memories. There is a prison break, and Kir gets his eye cut by Ashil to prevent him from using his clairvoyance powers.
Zaylin is "expelled" by the emperor (sent on a secret mission) which causes the knight Theo to sulk and be sad like a giant puppy until her return. We get a bit of flashback on how the two met when they were younger. Zaylin and the emperor discuss the truth serum that Ashil is going to make possibly to commit suicide in the next chapter. Xavier seems to also have memories of his past life, also gaining an item that allows him to see a past life during one of his birthdays. He sees the death of Maribelle in his previous life and even tried to help the uncle's family to keep Maribelle away from the emperor, which he failed and died in his past life. This time, he decides to kill everyone responsible for Maribelle's death before drugging and killing his own mother. Maribelle seems suspicious about Xavier and suggests to the emperor to set a trap for him. We find out that Xavier and Ashil are working together, and that while Xavier knows that they are planning a trap, he cannot refuse Maribelle and threatens for him to make a new truth serum which will cause them to suffer a fate worse than death. Maribelle goes to the library to learn more about the crown prince, Baldwin's history to help the emperor in case he rebels and tries to take the throne, but instead sees Baldwin there. Baldwin threatens her to give him the ring that the emperor gave her. When she refuses, he attacks her until Xavier stops him. Xavier ends up bringing her back to the emperor afterwards.
During the grand dinner, the emperor is prepared for a revolt, finding a way to expose the drink to be poisoned, however it backfires. Instead, Xavier offers his own wine to him which the emperor drinks. It's poisoned, and during this time, Baldwin starts a revolt on the castle. He is beheaded and the emperor is taken to medical bay, but the poison has already affected him and he very strongly wishes to die. Maribelle wakes up and learns about the situation like how the emperor has gone insane and that Ashil committed suicide. The emperor begs Maribelle to kill him, but Maribelle refuses. Maribelle goes to talk to Xavier, Xavier revealing that everything he did was to take revenge for Maribelle and make her happy. We also learned that initially Xavier was going to drink the poison to complete his mission but saw that there was a chance to kill the emperor instead. Maribelle finally does try to end the emperor's life as he requested, but he's able to snap out of it and the two get married.
As I said before, the story itself is actually pretty good as a revenge story but it really rushes at the end when it comes to the actual revolt. Maribelle as a character is very cool, never letting down her guard as she continues to push her agenda to get revenge on Arinelle, using various tactics of gaslighting, using the emperor and proving herself to the peers around her. Personally I thought it was kind of weak that Maribelle didn't stay to see Arinelle die since her entire motivation was to make her suffer as much as she make her suffer (which was to go into a loveless marriage with the emperor, only to betray him and then be killed by Arinelle's family after she was deemed useless) but she kind of just saw the error of her ways and got killed by the emperor which is... kind of unsatisfying. I'd rather have Maribelle herself strike her down or at least be there to watch her die. I think if I were to have made this I would have made Maribelle force Arinelle to drink the poison like she did to her and then just kind of watch her die as she suffered, but unfortunately it doesn't go that route. The relationship between her and the emperor seemed a lot more dangerous initially but because we end up learning about the emperor's various lives, it has more meaning. I don't remember exactly if it says in the story, but supposedly he ends up becoming a tyrant because of Maribelle so that he can get rid of the other people who try to hurt her (though that doesn't explain why he just randomly murders people or nearly kills Kir- or why Kir seems to have no qualms with it after the fact he almost died...cuz I feel like I'd be either more scared or at least pissed off). It is cool to be introduced to such a terrifying concept though, I will say.
However, like I said it does fall short at the end. The emperor kind of accepts being poisoned, because honestly it should have been obvious that Xavier was planning something considering how suspicious he was acting towards him. Baldwin also just gets killed way too easily- we don't even get to see the actual frame of him being decapitated, even though he was set up to be a great antagonist towards the emperor as he was the one who killed him in a previous life. The whole poison thing, which should have probably been a lot more heart wrenching considering it seems like he would have wanted to die so as long as he was alive is solved immediately without having to search for or make an antidote or have to suffer for those consequences. It pretty much was like, now that we need a happy ending plot, we'll just make this entire portion obsolete.
Xavier is the main yandere of this story as he orchestrates everything to make sure that Maribelle has a happy ending. He knows about how Arinelle and her house ended up staging a revolt in a previous life, so he teams up with them and betrays them so that they will end up dying, and it pretty much works until Maribelle decides to pretend she is dead for a day, thus revealing that there is a revolt. He also strongly hates the emperor for this reason, since he wants to get rid of anyone who was related in causing the death of Maribelle, even at the expense of Maribelle's own feelings towards him. Still though, I'm not sure what's going on in the ending of all of this because he kind of just... lets her go? I guess because he thinks that the emperor was going to die anyways (which honestly considering the events of the story, he probably should have, but I digress) but it's weird to me that he kind of just fades out of the webcomic's existence once the two get married since we don't really know what happens to him. Perhaps something was revealed in the side stories on the webnovel, but it kind of just seems like he just disappeared.
The emperor is the other yandere in the story who starts out being really overprotective over Maribelle even stabbing Kir after he insulted her. Over the course of the story he continues to do so, generally worrying about her and also attempting to help Maribelle with her revenge scheme even if it means that she's simply just using him. In the various lives that he has with her, he always stays by her (figuratively or literally) despite the fact that he's already been betrayed by her and is the one who finally kills Arinelle after he shows what she did to Maribelle. I will say that he feels a lot more intimidating as a tyrant in the beginning- killing people left and right as well as injuring his own people and while he is threatening to the people that have wronged Maribelle (like cutting the uncle and killing Arinelle) his more violent tendencies slowly die down as he and Maribelle fall more and more in love. He is for sure very devoted to her, even asking her to kill him.
The artwork in this series is really pretty though I have to say. The way the hair is done is probably something I will have to figure out how to replicate it. A lot of people complain about the expressions being fairly flat (which is true to some degree, it's not as expressive as other stories I've read) but I didn't find it too distracting. My favorite characters have got to be Zaylin and Theo though because that relationship is adorable. I would read a whole series on those two hands down because Theo is super adorable and Zaylin is very cool. Honestly I think that small section about how clingy Theo was towards Zaylin is one of my favorite parts of this webcomic.
Overall, a fairly good story in my opinion. It has its flaws at the end that really downgrade it from what it could be since it causes a lot of plot holes and unsatisfying moments (just coming back from insanity near the end is such a lost opportunity for more angst, but whatever I guess) and I kind of wish that Xavier had some sort of comeuppance for all the stuff that happened but whatever. If you are interested, try it out, as it is a finished story.

Continue! How long did it take before Luisa started losing her mind?
As soon as she received the news of Mirabel’s death (which is why she suddenly becomes so bloodthirsty - in spite of only knowing rumours), things just slowly spiralled and just kept getting worse.
The final nail in the coffin (no pun intended) was when she visited Mirabel’s grave. Camilo and his servants had done a very lazy job at a burial, which sparked Luisa into giving Mirabel a proper one. In doing so, she ended up seeing the little, tarnished corpse and… that was it.
Just the reminder of how young Mirabel had been and how unfair this all was.
There was no reason for Mirabel to die. She would have been worth more alive and as a hostage, Camilo just had her executed for no reason. Was he bored? Did he think it was funny? Or, she doesn’t know, but what the hell happened?
As soon as Luisa’s mental state became more obvious, she lost her place leading the army and was sent back to court by Dolores. Dolores would then go on to send her home to her parents, after fearing for the safety of Camilo.
So Luisa is just locked away in some palace in the countryside, with Julieta and Agustín hiring doctors every week to try cure her.

Encanto Fantasy Kingdom AU
At the beginning of the year, when Encanto fandom was a bit more active than it is now, @c-rose2081 and I were collabing on a royal Encanto family AU story. The story was suppose to center around Mirabel and Bruno. She would be the unexpected heir, next in line for the throne. By cosmic happenstance, the only royal Madrigal born outside the palace walls, with strange glowing powers and Bruno would be her self-appointed protector of sorts. She would be targeted by assassins and Bruno as the devoted uncle would make sure she was safe. There is a lot more to the story but that’s the main gist of it.
Sorry to say, but this project is no longer active. Fandoms and ideas come and go and a large part of why this project didn’t take wing was because of me. I had a lot delays and mental health issues and I kinda gave up half-way through. In the end I just blew this project way out of proportion and overestimated my own abilities and stress management. In short, I was woefully unprepared and overwhelmed. It was a good learning experience for me to better my time-management skills and to see my own limits.
Here however, are some designs for the look of the characters. It was a lot of fun to make up designs for these existing characters. @c-rose2081 graciously gave me permission to use some scenarios and her ideas for some future art for this au. So, I’ll be making more art for this, but only for random scenes. Also, because I know someone will ask: there is no fic for this. If someone is inspired to write one based on this, make sure to tag me, because I’d love to read it. Us two however, are officially finished with this.
Anyway, enjoy these early arts! And go check out @c-rose2081 blog! She is a great writer and artist and without her this idea wouldn’t even exist

Inspired by a TV Show
Ok so this idea was originally inspired by @glendybluebird and her Encanto Empire AU. I just loved her character designs and the idea of a Royalty AU with the cast of Encanto when it hit me! What if it was a Regency AU instead? And what if it was based on Bridgerton?! 🤯
Ok so in this AU the Madrigals aren’t quite royalty but they are prominent members of the ton. Very close with the crown. Maybe a Dukedom, I’m not sure yet.
Anyway, the story is a mix between conflicts in the movie and the drama from the show. Isabela plays a part similar to Edwina and Daphne, Dolores plays Penelope, Mirabel and Camilo are Eloise and Benedict, Luisa is Kate, and Abuela is basically Lady Danbury with a hint of Violet Bridgerton. Mariano is the Prince, with a role similar to Colin and his Grandmother is Queen Charlotte. (See where I’m going with this?)
Alma and Queen Carlotta Guzman are old friends and determined to see their families united. So, when the three eldest granddaughters of the Madrigal household, finally come of age, Queen Carlotta has her pick of the perfect suitor for her son and declares Isabela, the Diamond of the Season. With the two of them being long term friends, everything appears to be going perfectly. But nothing is as it seems.
Ever since Dolores was young, she new that her best friend Prince Mariano Guzman was the man of her dreams. Unfortunately, he seems smitten with her cousin and their abuela’s are determined to see them together. Despite being a wise and lovely young woman with a talent for writing and music, Dolores is often overlooked in favor of her older cousin. Compared to Isabela’s popularity with the ton, her perfect poise, and beautiful flowers, Dolores fears that she will always be in her cousin’s shadow. However, being a wall flower does have its advantages and Dolores is keeping a powerful secret.
Isabela Madrigal has always done her best to be the perfect young lady and to please her Abuela. However, she longs for far more freedom than marriage to the crown could give her. She’d much rather explore and travel the world, go horseback riding and cultivate new and exotic plants than reside in the palace, throwing balls, making pretty flower arrangements and popping out babies left and right.
Although she is the younger sibling Luisa is very protective of her family and feels it is her duty to ensure their safety, security, and security within the community. She is strong, smart, intimidating and well read, often emulating their fierce and equally protective Abuela. She will do anything for her family often at her own expense and she can usually be found helping people either within the family or on their vast estate. She does not have many friends amongst the ton nor suitors so she focuses all her energy on vetting the people trying to get close to them. However, under the surface, she longs to finally let down her walls someday, to share her burdens and interests, and finally truly relax.
Meanwhile, Camilo and Mirabel, as the younger spectators of this spectacle, contemplate what they desire out of life, outside of romance, and try to solve the mystery of the ton’s unknown gossip writer. Much like Benedict and Eloise, Camilo and Mirabel are more interested in broader pursuits. Camilo would like to be a performer and work in a theater. While, Mirabel would like to start her own Modiste Shop. I’m also thinking of aging Antonio up about 5 years because I want to give him plot relevance but I’m not sure what that will be yet. 🤔
I’d for a story like this to come to life someday but this is all for now.

Close to the Sun - Aesop Sharp [ Part 4]
Pairing: Aesop Sharp x fem!Reader
Themes: Angst, fluff, reminiscent of that one scene from Tangled
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 5 are linked :)
Tumblr media
You spent the past week in between your cubicle at the ministry and the Hogwarts library. There's got to be something you're missing. Dittany, Bubotuber Pus and Phoenix tears. There must be something else... You've buried yourself in every book you can find and suddenly it hits you. The one thing no one's written about. Dragon's blood. That has to be it! Right? Honestly, you're taking a shot in the dark but it's worth it to help Aesop. You gather your things and make your way to the Greenhouse at Hogwarts.
"Mirabel!" you shout, running up to the professor.
She spins around and smiles at you. "Hello, my flower! It's been so long! How are you, my dear?"
You smile back and hug her, pulling away and hoisting yourself to sit on the potting table. "I'm wonderful, how are you?"
She folds her hands. "Fantastic! How is it going with Professor Sharp?"
You grip your satchel and grin. "Wonderfully. He's helping me with my potion and I think I've finally found the final ingredient."
She frowns and tilts her head. "I thought the Phoenix tears were the final ingredient...?"
You sigh and shake your head. "I thought that too but it didn't work. I know now what I'm missing! Dragon's blood."
She hesitates and puts her hands on her hips. "Sounds dangerous. Is he going with you?"
You shake your head again. "I couldn't ask him to do that."
"Do what?" a voice asks from the other side of the classroom.
You twist around to see Aesop walking down the stairs towards you. "Oh, umm...nothing."
You turn back around, looking down at you bag.
"She says the last ingredient is dragon blood," Mirabel says, concerned.
You look up at her with a look of betrayal and Aesop walks over, folding his arms.
"Not happening," he says, flatly.
You laugh and get off the table. "I know this is it! I'm getting that blood, no matter what it takes."
Mirabel whimpers, putting her hands on her head. Aesop sighs, looking at you.
"Do you know the story of Icarus?" he asks.
"I don't think so," you reply, furrowing your brows.
He leans against a table, taking a breath. "Icarus was the son of a craftsman in Crete. The wife of King Minos had fallen in love with the bull, giving birth to the minotaur. Icarus' father was commissioned to build a labyrinth to hold the minotaur. Theseus, the founder of Athens, eventually came to Crete to kill the minotaur and leave with the princess. Unfortunately, Theseus had killed the minotaur with a weapon created by Icarus' father."
"Hang on," you interject. "What does this have to do with the dragon's blood?"
He shakes his head. "Listen to the whole story."
You sigh and nod.
"When King Minos found out about the father's betrayal, he imprisoned him and his son  in a tower above the palace. Icarus became restless and wanted to explore the lands that lay below. His father was desperate to escape and thought of an idea to leave the tower. He created wings from feathers and wax for him and his son that would fly them away from the palace and from King Minos. He taught Icarus how to use them but warned him not to get to close to the sun as the wax would melt. Soon, they made their escape and flew up above the palace, leaving Crete, but Icarus was consumed by the need to explore. He flew higher and higher towards the sun and the wax on his wings melted. He fell from the sky, his father unable to save him, and fell into the sea and drowned."
You fold your arms and frown at him. "That was a depressing story, Aesop."
He chuckles. "An important one. If you fly too close to the sun, (Y/N), your wings will melt."
You shake your head and grab your bag. "I'll be fine. I can do this. I need to help you." You quickly leave the greenhouse, readying yourself for what's to come.
Aesop looks at Mirabel and sighs. "I'll have to follow her, won't I?"
Mirabel, nods, holding her hands to her chest. "I'm afraid so..."
***
Now the question is where do you find a dragon? You quickly made your way up into the hills of the coast, hoping to find a dragon lair. You've been planning how you'll even be able to kill it as you climb up. You really hope Aesop didn't follow you. If he gets injured because he's helping you, you'll never forgive yourself. Confringo, diffindo, glacius, bombardo, immobulus... a curse if you really need it.
You hear a roar in the distance and look up, seeing wings disappear behind the peak. You swallow hard and keep climbing. Eventually you shuffle through a cave in the mountain, emerging out of the other side. A Hebridean Black rests on a boulder on the other side of the clearing. You take a deep breath, shutting your eyes tightly. You set your bag down and pull your wand out. Standing up, you open your eyes and make your way towards the dragon. It turns to you and roars, taking off into the sky. You groan and watch it leave. Suddenly, you hear footsteps. A lot of them. You spin around and see poachers running into the clearing. This is going to be harder than you thought...
You start to fight off the poachers but the dragon returns. Focusing on both parties isn't as easy as you'd hoped it would be. You dodge the dragon's flames but get hit with diffindo as you recover. It goes on like this for what feels like hours and you're getting tired. You've barely landed any hits on the actual dragon you came here for. You spin back to the dragon, ready to attack as you feel a sudden pain between your shoulder blades as you're sent to the ground. Your vision fades out quickly as a blinding pain surges through your body. You didn't hear the curse...
You can feel tears streaming down your face and that's about all you can feel aside from the lightening moving through your body. Your breathing is labored as you collapse in a ball on the ground. The pain is supposed to go away...Why won't it go away...? Suddenly you feel a pair of hands on your shoulders. You panic and try to move away but then you feel the hand on your head. You blink a couple times, your vision slowly coming back. You can just barely see Aesop leaning over you, worry written on his face. You try to move onto your hands and knees but whimper in pain, falling down again. Dark lines run over your arms, the darker places feeling like fire in your veins.
The dragon... You look up and it's lying, lifeless on the ground. Did he kill it...? He pulls you into a sitting position against his chest and moves a vial in front of you. You can feel he's speaking to you, but you can't hear what he's saying. He helps you to drink the potion and you feel your body get warm. Really warm... You close your eyes, unable to stay awake.
***
"I can't believe it really was dragon's blood..." says a voice in the distance.
"She's lucky...if it hadn't been, she'd have died," says another, sighing.
You open your eyes and sit up. You're in an unfamiliar room. You stand up and look around. The room is dark, aside from a fireplace lit in the right corner. You walk to the door, leaning your ear against it.
"How did you know how to brew it?" asks Mirabel.
"I simply followed her instructions," replies Aesop.
You lean back and look around. This is his room? You suddenly remember the dark veins on your arms and look down. They're gone. You feel fine. Something's wrong. You open the door and run out, causing the two to look over at you in surprise.
"The blood! Did you get any?" you almost shout, heart racing.
He frowns at you and nods. "I got enough."
Mirabel walks over and gently places her hands on your shoulders. "How are you feeling, my dear?"
You look at her, and smile sadly. "I'm alright, Mirabel. Promise..." You look back at Aesop and he looks away. "Aesop, the blood, where is it?"
He sighs and looks back at you. "Your potion works, (Y/N). It cures the uncurable. Be happy."
You shake your head. "I don't understand. You've brewed it? You drank it already?"
He frowns and walks over to the chair in front of the fireplace, sitting down. He still has the limp...
"No...No you said it worked." You walk over, staring down at him. "If it worked, why does your injury still bother you."
He rubs his hand over his eyebrows, sighing. "You would have died without it..."
You shake your head, pacing in front of the fireplace. "No...no...no you were supposed to take it, Aesop. You. Not me. Why?"
He stands and holds your arms, halting you. "(Y/N), I would live the rest of my days incapacitated if it meant you were safe. You are so much more important than me."
You stare at him, tears beginning to run down you face. "No..."
He nods, smiling softly at you. "Yes...Don't feel regret for what I did. It saved you and that isn't something I can regret." He hugs your tightly, stroking your hair. You lean your face into his shoulder, sobbing, You were supposed to heal him. You failed...
He pulls away and looks down at you. "Don't think you've failed me. You may have flown to close to the sun, but I will always catch you."

Some of worship Isa being unhappy
Warning for child abuse and gaslighting
Isabela wasn't sure about anything anymore. She knew that her name wasn't Maria. That she didn't always like like this. Briefly, she could remember people. Her family. As well as Mirabel's. But her knowledge was hazed, damaged by the years away from them. What she could remember were mostly facts.
Madre kept saying that she was crazy and needed to pray. Isabela knew that she wasn't. She wasn't some evil being or a daughter of Satan. She wasn't crazy.
She hoped that they were real. She really did. It's just that after years in this hell, she had no idea of anything anymore.
Sometimes she wondered if she imagined this all. Maybe the Madrigals were never real. What if Rafaela was just Rafaela, a random girl six years younger than she was and not Mirabel? What if the other girl she remembered as her sister wasn't her sister? Maybe they all were part of her imagination. Maybe everyone was right.
Isabela hated it. Deep inside she knew she was right. But each time when somebody called her 'possessed' she was getting less sure.
And she didn't want to argue with Madre. Because in the best case she would get beaten up for this. Her wrist would bleed from smacks, it was hurt already. Or maybe she could even be locked inside the closet room for bad kids. And she would cry against the door, staying in this small place for days. Hungry, thirsty and exhausted.
It also would mean skipping church. Part of Isabela hated it,but it was the only time when she could see kids from the other houses. Good thing they all had constant places in a palace. Finding Mirabel was easy. Even if Isabela could never get close enough to her to say a single word.
She wondered if Mirabel had any idea of their family, their real family. Of the fact that they were even related. This single thought was enough for Isabela's guts to twitch. But if she ever tried to speak to anyone without being allowed to, she would be crying on her knees, while her body would bleed. And Madre would call her a cursed child again.
Her mama never hit her. Isabela wished to go back to Mama. Feel the warmth of her homemade food. Or laugh over Papa's clumsiness. Maybe play under Tía's rain. Or get into catching up with Luisa.
They were real, right?

(Sofia hurriedly running to the castle just to find Walton & King Triton who are both sitting by the fountain)
Sofia (trying to catch her breath): I got your text, what seems to be the trouble & don't worry the DJ Club is on it's way to help!!? Walt: Yeah... um tell the them they're kind of too late for that one, The ladies already had it covered. Sofia: What do you mean had it covered? Walt: The Princesses Mrs. Raps, Snow White, Tiana, Moana... King Triton: Don't forget as well my daughter Ariel. Walt: Right!, they managed to stop Gaston's plans from taking over the world & restore the castle's former glory once and for all. Sofia: So then why are you still here when the whole thing is over? Walt: Were just waiting for the rest to be finished. Sofia: The rest?...
(Cut to punches & screams from an arrogant jerk offscreen at the ballroom)
Walt: Yeah I might have tipped everyone off that I know where all their stuff went, and I didn't expect them to beat the heck out of Gaston for stealing all of their belongings for no reason... Sofia: Okay, So then why are you here your majesty? King Triton: Well.. I was just... here for moral support and to see Gaston punished for having me captive and dehydrated.
(Cut to everyone heading out of the ballroom mostly Cinderella, Beast, Aladdin, Mirabel, & Mulan with their possessions in hand)
Walt: Okay so did anyone found what you are exactly looking for?
(Everyone replied as they leave the palace)
Walt: Great!, Hold up I feel like there is someone that I nearly forgot?
(Cue a huge roar of an enormous alligator)
Walt: Oh right the alligator is with them too! Louis: Thanks for tip on finding our stuff Junior D, all of us owe you big time for that!!! Walt: Anytime Louis! Anytime!...

Note
You know, I always loved fairytales, and those episodes of TV shows where the characters are part of a fairytale or in a fairytale setting were always fun for me. A fairytale AU would be super cool, where the Madrigals are all royalty, and each Madrigal is the protagonist of a different fairytale.
Alma is the beauty from Beauty and the Beast, Pedro didn't die, he was cursed and ran away after an angry mob attacked him, he hides in a dark castle in order to protect his family from the angry mob and watches over his family from a distance, whether or not Alma knows what happened is up for debate.
Julieta is the princess from the Princess and the Frog, Agustin is the frog of course, that's why he's so clumsy, the story is basically the same as Julieta helps Agustin break his curse.
Pepa is the Snow Queen, after being bullied as a child for her weather powers, she shuts herself off from others until Felix, the Kai of the story, comes along, he can only sees the bad in the world due to a shard of the cursed mirror in his eye but doesn't see fault in Pepa's perfect snowflakes, Pepa falls in love and helps Felix's sister, the Gerda of the story, break the curse of the mirror shard.
Bruno is the protagonist of The Golden Goose, he wanders into the jungle to hide from bullies and offers some of the food he has on him to an old man, who guides him to the Golden Goose, as Bruno makes his way back home, many people try and steal feathers from the goose and end up getting stuck, they are only freed when Bruno comes home and his family ignores the goose as they embrace him, as he had been gone for hours and they had been worried.
Isabela is Sleeping Beauty, cursed at birth by an evil fairy to prick her finger and sleep forever unless she is given a kiss of true love, when she pricks her finger, everyone thinks Mariano can break the curse, but of course he isn't her true love, so it doesn't work, Julieta ends up being the one to break the curse with a forehead kiss.
Dolores is Cinderella, after Mariano discovers he isn't Isabela's true love, he holds a ball to try and find his true love, Alma is very embarrassed by what happened with Isabela and refuses to let any Madrigal attend, so Dolores has to sneak out with the help of her fairy godmother, when she leaves her shoe behind and Mariano starts looking for her, she ends up coming clean to her family and admitting her feelings for Mariano so she can try on the shoe.
Luisa is the princess from The Princess and the Pea, she gets lost in a different kingdom during a trip and seeks shelter at the kingdom's castle, the Queen doesn't believe Luisa is a real Princess due to her 'un-princess-ly stature' and gives her the pea test, the next day the rest of the Madrigals show up at the palace begging for help to find Luisa, Alma and Julieta give the Queen an earfull when they're told what happened, and poor Luisa is given a week off of chores to rest.
Camilo is Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk, he trades a piece of jewelry for the magic beans, he didn't really believe the beans were magical he just didn't like the jewelry he had and wanted to get rid of it, once the beanstalk grows, he climbs it out of curiosity and takes the opportunity to cause some mischief when he finds the giant, including stealing a goose that lays golden eggs and a harp that plays itself, needless to say he gets in massive trouble when he gets home and Alma returns the items to the giant with a sincere apology.
Mirabel is Little Red Riding Hood, Alma is visiting her family who lives on the other side of the jungle when she gets sick, since she's too sick to make the journey back home, Julieta sends Mirabel with a basket of food to help her get better, the 'wolf' she encounters is actually her Abuelo Pedro, still cursed, he keeps Mirabel safe on her journey and Mirabel is able to reunite Pedro and Alma.
Antonio is the Pied Piper of Hamelin, he uses his flute to help with a rat infestation and decides to keep the rats as pets, but when people start bullying him for having rats as pets, calling the rats disgusting and Antonio himself diseased, he releases the rats back into the town until they apologize, both to him and the rats.
I LOVE FAIRYTALES TOO!!! THEY’RE SO SILLY!!!
All of these are so cool and fit so well. Tbh I like Alma, Luisa, Mirabel, Antonio and Pepa’s. I mean all of them are so rad, but those have my heart‼️‼️ They’re all so unique and. Love how some of them tie into each other. And all of them fit so well with each of the Madrigals and that is just so cool tbh. Love seeing AUs like that. AND PEDRO MENTIONED 🗣️🗣️🗣️ YEAHHHHHH
Wanted to draw Alma and Pepa but didn’t :((((

LOVE THIS AU RAHHHHHH 🗣️🗣️🤠🤠🤠🤠🦅🦅🦅🦅

Mirabel's Super Secret Adventure
Movie AU
Chapter Preview: How many secrets were Tío Bruno and Tía Leandra keeping? First the cracks, then Isabela, now this.
Prologue Prev Next Masterlist
7. Things Bruno Doesn't Talk About
Mirabel’s epiphany made her re-examine her wish to keep the cracks to herself. On the one hand, she really kind of wanted to be the person who fixed all this; on the other, if somebody in her family was really in that much pain…
Shouldn’t Mirabel focus on fixing it fast rather than by herself?
Reluctantly, Mirabel decided she would share what she’d learned with Tío Bruno. He, at the very least, would still allow her to help. If she told Abuela she would be thanked for bringing it to her attention, then told to go rest and let somebody else handle it.
After she finished helping her Pá teach Antonio, she headed over to Tío Bruno’s room and knocked on the door. This time, when she didn’t get an answer, she walked in. Tío Bruno had a tent hidden somewhere in the cave system that ran throughout his canyon, so if he wanted privacy he would just hide in his tent. As such, the kids in the family were always allowed to enter his room and hang out in his storytelling tent in the middle of his canyon’s oasis.
Mirabel ducked under his sand curtain and paused on the landing to shake the sand out of her hair. Octavia was down at the bottom of the canyon, using the sand to practice different gazebo designs. She paused halfway through making an octagon shaped gazebo to wave at Mirabel, then got back to work.
“What do you think?” Octavia asked, holding the sand in the shape that she wanted.
“I like the trellis siding,” Mirabel answered.
“Yeah, I don’t know, feels pretty basic,” Octavia frowned, then she grinned and with a few twitches of her fingers, the diamond shaped holes became hearts.
Mirabel frowned at the hearts.
“What? Too much?”
“No uh, it’s just,” she thought about biting her tongue, but she’d already told Amada, so she might as well keep flapping her mouth, “Isabela doesn’t want to marry him. She’s doing it for the family. Your Pá has a plan to fix things though.”
“Oh,” Octavia paused, then adjusted the hearts so they were in two parts with a jagged line in between them, “so, that better?”
Mirabel couldn’t help a dry chuckle, “Abuela would blow a gasket.”
Octavia giggled, “Yeah.”
Mirabel watched for a while as her cousin made gazebo after gazebo, each one slowly becoming more extravagant. Eventually Octavia was making entire gazebo palaces. It was a far cry from the sloppy houses she’d made in front of the town’s architect.
Most of the time, she wouldn’t have thought twice about it. A gazebo is a whole lot simpler than a house, after all. But with her mind still buzzing away, looking for problems large enough to cause all those cracks, she found herself eyeing the ease with which Octavia molded the sand.
Now that Mirabel was really thinking about it, Octavia seemed to be ten times better at using her gift whenever Abuela wasn’t watching.
“Octavia?” Mirabel asked, slowly.
“Yep?” Octavia chirped, adding another open air turret to the top of the gazebo's right wing.
“Do you… pretend to be worse at your gift when Abuela is around?”
The gazebo palace collapsed in on itself, Octavia slowly turned towards Mirabel, wide eyed. It was all the confirmation Mirabel needed.
She whispered, “Please don’t tell.”
“I won’t, I won’t, but… why?”
“Because I don’t want to end up like Luisa.”
“Like Luisa-? Oh.”
Octavia jerked her shoulders in a shrug, “By the time she was my age, she was already working eight hours a day. Now she doesn’t even get to finish breakfast half the time.”
Mirabel slowly nodded, to show that she’d heard her, then drifted over to the story telling tent. She entered the dimly lit haven and sat down on one of the many floor cushions. The tent flap opened, letting unfiltered light in, then closed and Octavia sat next to her, fiddling with a rock.
There was a long period of contemplative silence.
“Are you happy?” Mirabel eventually asked. Was anyone in their family truly happy?
“I am,” Octavia said, smiling a little, “although, sometimes I feel a bit guilty for hiding what I can do from everybody.”
“So everyday, when you practice with Tía Leandra?”
“We mostly just play around, experiment with my gift and stuff,” Octavia shrugged, “I am actually learning about architecture, I do want to make houses, but I want to be a kid first. You know?”
“When did you start pretending?”
“Pretty much immediately,” Octavia floated the rock in the palm of her hand and began running it through different shapes, “Má has always been-. The first thing I learned was all the ways to make a house poorly, right? Long run it means when I want to make a house well, I just don’t do any of the things I’d do to make it bad. Short term, I know exactly how to make it look like I don’t know what I’m doing.”
“And Tía Leandra has been helping you lie? This whole time?”
“It was my parents’ idea,” Octavia admitted, “well, I think it was Pá’s, but he’s not great at the whole, sneaky subterfuge thing, so Má has been handling it. Oh! Since you know now, you wanna see the Eiffel Tower?”
“Sure,” Mirabel said, faintly, mind still reeling. How many secrets were Tío Bruno and Tía Leandra keeping? First the cracks, then Isabela, now this.
Tío Bruno had said his gift meant he knew a bunch of stuff that wasn’t technically his business, even Amada had learned things through her limited sight that weren’t hers to tell. Dolores was the same way, she knew everything about everyone, and barely ever said a word. As Mirabel followed Octavia back out to the dessert portion of the canyon bottom, she wondered what her life would have been like if she had gotten a gift. Specifically a gift that made her privy to information she wasn’t meant to know.
Would she keep so many secrets too?
“Ok, so! The trick is to lift all the sand up then shape it as it falls,” Octavia said brightly, lifting what must have been a ton or two of sand, she tilted her head, “hold on, that’s a little too much.”
She separated out some of the sand and dumped it, then examined her giant sand cloud. She grinned and nodded and began releasing the sand a little at a time.
“I have to be careful to remember all the big clumps at the top, there’s rooms and stuff up there you know,” Octavia continued to narrate, glancing excitedly at Mirabel every few minutes to make sure she was paying attention, “and then I gotta make all the cross beams. On all four sides, too. See! Then I used to put this part that all the people can stand on half way down, but it’s more like a quarter of the way up. Riiiiiiiiight there! Now the legs are nice and thick, but if I make them too thick it looks really cartoony, so it’s got to be just the right level of thick. And ta-da! The Eiffel Tower!”
She held the tower steady with one raised hand and put the other one on her hip, grinning broadly at Mirabel.
“It’s amazing,” she told her, honestly. Because it was. The tower was about as tall as Tío Bruno’s canyon, and molded with such precision that Mirabel could make out all the little rivets, bolts, and screws holding it together.
“Yeah, I’m really good at this,” Octavia allowed the sand to fall in a controlled implosion, then turned back to Mirabel, “Sometimes I wish I could show off, you know? But I know the second I do I’ll pretty much just be Luisa the Sequel. Má and Pá always do a good job of acting impressed with me, and so do Amada and Gabe.”
“Wait, Gabe knows? And he hasn’t-?”
“Tattled? Of course not, you think he wants the townspeople treating one of his precious baby sisters the way they treat Luisa? Hell, if he could figure out how to get people to back off Luisa, he would.”
“Hold on, am I literally the last to know how overworked Luisa is?”
“Nah, pretty sure that’ll be Luisa herself,” Octavia lifted more sand and started making a statue of the family instead, “and your Má doesn’t know because she’s always working too, and Isabela doesn’t know because she’s always practicing being perfect, and Camilo doesn’t know because he’s always babysitting or entertaining the villagers, and I don’t think Tío Agustín or Tío Félix know because they got so many chores to do around the house.”
“But your parents know,” Mirabel filled in, “and they told you three?”
“Not really, Gabe noticed it by himself, and Má might have noticed it and told Pá. Or Pá told Má when he had that vision. I don’t know. But that’s how Amada and I found out, we saw Pá’s vision-. Wait… I maybe shouldn’t tell you about that.”
“What vision?”
“Um, nothing, no vision. Pá doesn’t have visions, he can’t even see!”
“Octavia, what vision?!”
She waved her hand and suddenly the sand gathered around her in a windowless dome. Mirabel tried digging into the sand, but it actively resisted her hands.
“Octavia!”
The dome didn’t budge.
Eventually, Mirabel put her hands on her hips and looked up towards Tío Bruno’s vision cave. She could barely see it from her place on the ground. Tío Bruno said that it got taller and taller every year, but had slowed down ever since he had started giving weekly story time to the kids.
Climbing up there was still the worst.
Which was exactly why Mirabel suspected that was where he stored any visions he didn’t want anyone to see. Nobody climbed up those stairs unless they had to. Tío Bruno had a secret passageway up there, but, well it was a secret passageway, not a well known passageway.
So, leaving the dome behind, Mirabel made her way to the stairs. She took a few deep breaths, then started the long journey up to the vision cave.
About halfway up, Mirabel wondered if she really needed to see this vision. It was about Luisa after all, not her. It probably wasn’t any of her business.
However, it might be connected to the cracks.
Or, it might give Mirabel some way to help her older sister.
Granted, if the vision could help Luisa in any way, Tío Bruno had probably already tried. But Mirabel would bet good money that the vision was about whatever warning Luisa had been ignoring. Maybe if she knew what was coming, she could give Luisa an extra push.
Three quarters of the way up, Mirabel paused to take a few more deep breaths, hands on her hips.
Almost there, she told herself, almost.
Steeling herself, she kept going.
She had to stop for another breather before crossing the bridge. If telling stories to kids had made the stairs slow in their growth, they needed to start making him tell stories once a day, then the stairs might actually shrink.
The bridge was thin, and felt pretty rickety. It was two lines of wooden planks side by side, suspended by some rough rope. Mirabel was just grateful there was a safety line on either side.
Carefully, Mirabel crossed the bridge, gritting her teeth as it swayed beneath her. She didn’t want to go too fast, but she definitely didn’t linger.
Mirabel could count on one hand all the times she’d been up here. And most of them were before the bridge had slimmed down to its current state. Usually when Tío Bruno gave personal visions, only he and Tía Leandra would come up. If he was giving one of his showy visions about fun stuff, he generally did it in the old river bed, so he could make the sand whirlwind as big as it needs to be to hold everybody in attendance.
As she entered the corridor to the actual cave, her eyes roved over the carvings on the wall. There were shelves full of incense and herbs, and a few vision tablets she recognized as being some of his favorite visions.
None of them featured Luisa.
Next, Mirabel eyed the big circular door. It looked heavy, but when she got her hands on the door knob, it swung open easily enough.
The cave beyond was about as dark as she expected, and, unsurprisingly, filled with sand. The only thing in the room other than sand and stone was a locked trunk. Mirabel propped the door open and walked over to the trunk, kneeling in front of it. The lock was a simple padlock, an old thing with a keyhole.
Mirabel glanced over her shoulder, then reached into her bag. She pulled out two of her thickest embroidery needles and began working at the lock.
Not that Mirabel had any experience with lock picking, of course. She had never ever, for random example, broken into a cupboard Abuela had hidden the good scissors in, or anything like that. It was purely beginner's luck that allowed Mirabel to open the padlock within minutes.
She placed the lock aside and opened the trunk. Sitting inside were three visions, stacked on top of eachother. The first was clearly very old and showed a much younger Tía Leandra wearing very little clothing; Mirabel wrinkled her nose and put that one aside. Underneath it was a vision showing Luisa standing by her pool, easily hefting Mariano over the water with one hand, and Dolores with the other. They were all laughing.
Mirabel cocked her head, she couldn’t think of a single reason why this vision would be hidden. Carefully, she picked it up, but when she held it up and changed the angle, the vision shifted to a much less cheerful image.
Instead, Luisa was now standing among rubble, clearly struggling to lift a section of wall off a crate.
Mirabel gasped as she started shifting the tablet back and forth, watching the happy scene appear and disappear.
Was Luisa going to lose her gift? Why?
Tío Bruno had apparently been telling Luisa she needed to relax, but how could her not relaxing lead to her gift going away?
And what was with the rubble?
Mirabel dropped the vision into her lap, staring into the middle distance. For a few seconds, all she could do was blink dumbly into nothing, trying to figure out what this vision meant. Then something caught her eye.
Was that her?
Slowly, heart beating in her ears, Mirabel reached into the trunk and pulled out the last vision. It was like the one of Luisa, if she held it one way, Mirabel was standing in front of a perfectly intact Casita, if she tilted it the other, Casita was falling to pieces behind her.
This must be how Tío Bruno found out about the cracks. This must be the vision he had that told them Mirabel had miracle magic for emergencies. Mirabel had always assumed the vision showed her fixing whatever was broken, that it ended with a happy image. This vision didn’t look happy, it didn’t even look certain.
She hadn’t even considered the thought that she might not succeed. That she might not fix the cracks. Of course she would, this was Encanto, and she was a Madrigal. Mirabel couldn’t let her familia or the village down.
Suddenly she remembered Dolores’ words of warning, “If you can’t live up to the village’s expectations” she had trailed off but the implication had been that you would end up like Tío Bruno. Hated by many, and blamed for things beyond your control.
After a few seconds of thought, she put the other two visions back, but kept the one about her.
Mirabel re-locked the trunk and hurried out of the cave, closing it behind her. She walked across the bridge as quickly as she dared, and had to struggle to keep herself from running down the stairs. When she was halfway down, she noticed that there were two more people standing at the bottom of the canyon.
Tío Bruno and Tía Leandra.
When they looked up and saw her they both smiled, Tío Bruno raising his hand to wave at her. Then they must have noticed the vision in her hand because Tía Leandra visibly grimaced and Tío Bruno’s hand stopped mid-wave.
To their credit, when she got to them, neither of them bothered to lecture her about snooping.
“I hope that’s not the one of me,” Tía Leandra said, Tío Bruno sent her a look, but she just flashed her cheekiest grin at him and he melted.
“I am honestly trying to forget I saw that, thanks,” Mirabel said.
“I uh I’m guessing that one is-,” Bruno rubbed nervously at his arm.
In answer, Mirabel held up the vision so they could see, “How do I fix things?”
The two adults exchanged a look, but didn’t respond. Octavia leaned as far forward as she could without losing her balance to see the tablet, then frowned, brows wrinkled.
“Do I, I don’t know, pray at the candle? Hug everybody in the family? What? How do I heal the cracks?”
“What cracks?” Octavia cut in. She must have been standing at an angle from which Casita was intact.
“The cracks in the walls,” Mirabel answered, eyes fixed on her Tío, “he’s been patching them for years but they keep growing.”
“You saw the cracks?” Tía Leandra looked a little more surprised then Mirabel would have expected.
“How’d you get past the hole?” Tío Bruno cocked his head.
“I used a ladder to climb down, walked across, then climbed back up.”
“A ladder…? We have a ladder that long?”
“Yeah, it’s not even ten feet deep.”
“Oh.”
They both stared at her in silence for a second.
“Bruno, darling?”
“Sí mi amor?”
“We might be stupid.”
“Sí mi amor.”
Mirabel lifted the tablet again, opening her mouth to insist Tío Bruno tell her more about his vision, but was cut off when Bruno’s door opened and Camilo’s voice bounced off the canyon walls, “Time for dinner!”
