Minecraft feels like it doesn’t know what to do for big updates any more so they’re doing like small miscellaneous updates collected together. I wish they’d move on from trying to give them a theme bc I feel like that’s just confusing.
One thing I wish they’d do is do updates from time to time and go back and add pieces to old update. Like maybe add more fish or tree types.
Specifically what made me have this thought is that I’d love if they’d add more to the geodes. Like the amethysts are lovely but I’d love if there was a whole range of crystals to find in geodes!! I feel like that’s along the line of the archaeological stuff they’ve done recently! Digging into the earth for history and stuff!
Also if they ever do a forest update I’d freak out. I’d love if they revamped their nature bc I feel like that part of the over world specifically has been the same since the beginning era of minecraft. Like ocean, nether, caves, villages, NOW FOREST. And end.
Feels like natural progression of their universe growing! And I like feeling like the updates can have a “story” like aspect to me. Especially bc worldbuilding. Favorite idea when it comes to minecraft lore

Mojang is doing the opposite they did with 1.19 update and being like "Hehe no new biomes for this update! NEVER MIND JUST KIDDING, CHERRY BLOSSOMS BE UPON YE. This is the last feature to be introduced, no more new features! HAHA SIKE" and what do you know. it's working,

Impulse: "...they won't, because parity isn't sexy. Camels are sexy."
Me: Well, *that's* definitely going in an out-of-context clips compilation.

Mob Vote and Minecraft Updates in General
*Edit:* Warning - Extensive rambling with no through line or halfway decent structure
Idk, I need a place to put my thoughts.
The original mob vote concept was cool, 4 unique and honestly kinda challenging looking mobs, we can vote on which gets added. I'm actually a fan of Phantoms, despite them being a nusiance to most I think having flying mobs is cool and they should add more mobs that just fly about.
And I actually liked the follow ups where the mobs were tied into biomes because it wasn't *about* the mobs, they were just nice tie ins. But at the point we're at now they have to force us to be excited about the "features" these mobs add and while they are somewhat cool features, they aren't really much in isolation.
The Sniffer could've been much cooler bundled with an extensive update to say, the Jungle or Desert biomes, or an actually interesting archeology update.
Or in the Glow Squid case, its a weird single use feature, they could have easily bundled the glowing sign effect into Glowstone Dust.
None of this is to say adding more mobs is the wrong choice, I think the opposite, we need more mobs which just, don't have features attached.
Ambient mobs, fireflys, birds flying overhead, snakes in the Desert, rats around structures, more variety in the oceans (actual variety, the differnt combos of Tropical Fish are a nice touch, but the mob is the same regardless)
Then as you do updates, you can add features to them where it makes sense, but tying the feature to the mob from the get go and then forcing a vote on it just means less features in the long run. And I'm not unaware as to why they do it this way, the mob vote gets people talking, I mean I'm talking about it right now so I guess I'm not helping but whatever at this point we are half way through the vote anyway.
The chatter, even that against the mob vote conceptually pushes Minecraft into our feeds, even the BBC are reporting on Minecraft LIVE and the mob vote cause its a story now.
I will say on a slightly other note, the whole "modders can make this in one day argument" is kinda flat. Modders usually have to make it for one version in one language on one platform. Mojang have to consider localisation, cross-compatibility, actually conceptualising the mob idea, etc. That's not to say Modders aren't incredibly hard working, they usually are, but if you're looking to call Mojang lazy I wouldn't do it based off just that.
This is already a long af post with little coherency but we're rolling with it.
I think really what I want to see, as a player since like, 2012, is Mojang just to make bolder moves in regards to the updates. I want them to change core gameplay mechanics and just, see what happens. And yeah last time was 1.9 and it divided the community into two distinct parts that exist today but we need something like that alongside 2 new wood types.
In regards to recent/planned changes to villagers and the netherite upgrade template, its clear they are trying to lengthen the "midgame" of Minecraft to capitalize on how most people play (that being they have a 2-3 week fixation on the game each year and then stop) This sucks, don't strech your midgame, extend your endgame.
Add more powerful mobs in a new dimension, make a place where even netherite armour feels like iron. I have no doubt it'd be a nightmare for new players so make it difficult to get to (like the totally-not-a-portal-frame in the ancient citys) make the overall gameplay loop of Minecraft longer.
I'm going to stop here for now, if I'm bored/procrastinating studies enough I should actually format some of these thoughts into something.
Anyway, boycott the mob vote, its unlikely to do anything, they truly don't have to care, but people made posters and played Poor Mans Poison over them, can you really still vote after that?

i've been thinking about things i would enjoy being added to vanilla minecraft so here is a list
different coloured wolves - they can still be wolves, i can deal with not having dogs but there are tons of wolf colours irl even just two other options would be fine i am literally begging at this point
an rpg or story type mode that adds things like seasons and villager quests so they wont interfere with minecraft's sandbox play style but still add the environmental story telling it seems mojang is trying to soft launch atm
rewards from villagers from rebuilding the village or completing quests (could be added to and rpg style mode)
being able to use stealth to attack mobs by crouching maybe
brown bears <3
more decorative plants that aren't flowers like bushes
adding a more magic or alchemy element since i feel the enchanting and brewing part of the game has been neglected as of recently (i also thing minecraft deserves a little whimsey)
a simple levelling system since i feel minecraft has very little progression compared to the content and would make people want to explore different play styles (of course this could be added to the aforementioned rpg style mode if it felt to conflicting to the games themes)
a fairy like mob similar to and allay or vex but more whimsical
more end plants
of course most of this things can be achieved with mods i know but i just feel vanilla minecraft is in need of a bit more whimsy and a slight elevation with neglected parts of the games (give me my wolves)
feel free to add anything to this list that you would really like to see bc i am very interested on how other people feel

in honor of fireflies being removed here is my probably incoherent list of everything that should be added to minecraft  Mossy logs ( someone has already said this i can't remember who but credit to that person)
- fallen tree logs that slowly gain moss as time goes on kinda like copper
- will eventually grow mushrooms when peak moss™ is acquired
- players can shear logs to get a mossy carpet
- only works for naturally spawning fallen trees so its kinda rare
 LEAVES!
-falling leaves work a lot like snow
-like with snow, over time leaves will gather in layers and from leaf piles, this will take a while tho
-leaves will be particles and thus will be togglable
-leaf piles will also spawn naturally
leaf mob
-hids in leaf piles
-neutral mob, will only attack if leaf pile is disturbed
- will attack any mob that disturbs pile
-looks kinda like the glare but leaves
-when killed it turns into a normal leaf pile
Tree mushrooms!
- grow on the side of trees
- can be stacked on the same block
- will be placed randomly on the block like flowers
- will spawn naturally (only in dark conditions)
- can’t be bonemealed to make more (works similar to vines) BUT
- if one is placed then grown with bonemeal it will turn into a side block thing and can be used to walk on
- used to breed mushroom deer
Mushroom deer
- like a mooshroom but a deer
- has antlers similar to the warden
- has brown mushrooms growing on it but if struck by lightning they will turn red
- will randomly drop antlers that can be used as decoration or used in potions
- will run away from player if damaged
- have similar behavior to foxes
Flower cottages
- naturally spawning flower cottages
- similar to witch huts
- spawn in flower forests
- have beehives and flowers spawn outside them
- not very useful but look pretty!
Hanging vines
- hang from the bottom of blocks like glowberry vines
- but a lot smaller and darker green (more vine like colour)
- can be stacked on blocks
- will sometimes spawn connected to others in a weird hanging arch thing (can’t be placed normally cause idk how that would work)
- change colour depending on biome!
- found mainly in swamps and jungles
Graveyards:
- randomly spawn in most biomes
- contain gravestones as well as the larger graves
- bit of cool loot but thats kinda it
- mobs spawn more frequently there
- graves sorta merge with the landscape, so you could have one on a hill
- some graves have wither roses on them
- idk it would be very cool for lore reasons
Chisel:
- used to engrave writing into stone
- works with stone blocks and stone bricks
- similar to how signs work but its just engraved in the stone
- breaking block will reset text
other smaller things:
- make grass move ever so slightly in the wind!
- reeds for ponds and stuff
- add koi fish it would be cool!
- song birds, acting similar to parrots but come in browns and greys
- give cacti flowers!
- add the fireflies back in mojang please we want the fireflies

no fireflies in minecraft is just as sad as the following
1: moobloom losing the vote
2: when they took the ability to tame rabbits away in the snapshots before the update

Abyssal Empire
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My 7+ year Minecraft world. (Building in Creative, playing in Survival.)
All updates are currently in place, with some biomes, mobs, items, and block types added in manually to complete the worldbuilding. (The Outlands are a result of my never exploring beyond a certain render distance worth of land before the Village and Pillage update. The world created a realm-splitting river and said ‘Fuck you, I wanna be an entirely different season over here.’)
My small but decent empire is fully mapped, with an expanded and enhanced village, a beautiful garden park, several player houses and camps, an underground mountain home base, a swamp village and fortress, a lighthouse and fishing village w/ piers and ships, a fancy nether portal, a hidden end portal, suspended bridges, a vacation beach house, and an underwater globe.
A few years worth of terraforming, planting fields and forests, restoring structures, and connecting a single river halfway across a kingdom just to call this place home, but I've never been happier spending my time building.
If anyone cares, I'd be glad to take closeups of any structures and give tutorials for them.
.
Thought I'd post it here and see if the internet liked it.
(With my crippling inferiority complex, attention deficit disorders, not to mention I forgot it existed for a year or two, I'm aware my builds aren't anywhere near on par as some massive castles and entire server cities, but I tried and I’m still proud of myself. TuT)
.
[2023 Update]
Absolutely shit news, guys. It got corrupted. I just logged into my Playstation one day and THIS WORLD out of 10 others was the only one corrupted.
8 years of work down the drain, a severe mental breakdown, and 3 tech supports later (realizing only Plus has save features, whereas mine had expired a few months before), I’ve been traumatized so badly by the loss that I’ve practically vowed never to touch Minecraft again.
I never got to tour the map in first person, nor did I realize that none of my builds had ever been screen-filmed. That was probably the most devastating part, because NONE of my maps could ever do the beauty of my ship, gardens, or villages justice.
There is a single file of this world from an earlier update, but it’s from nearly 7 YEARS EARLIER and before ANY of the recent updates. I’m too frustrated and upset to even ATTEMPT that level of rebuilding.)

Note
You have the only correct opinions on minecraft updates ever and have better takes than the entirety of Twitter and YouTube. If it’s okay with you could you tell us about some more of your ideas about the directions for the updates?
Tumblr media
Hooooo boy that's a long list
Honestly I would go a similar direction as the original plan for the "Wild Update" but focus more on improving/expanding something about a wide variety of existing biomes, particularly incorporating "newer" features and blocks into "older" biomes
Oceans
Caves and Cliffs fucked up the oceans terribly, sad to say. I hate encountering a big body of water and not being able to tell if it's an ocean or just a flooded open cave.
Lakes and oceans aren't in different size classes anymore. An ocean should be bigger than a lake
The solution: keep existing ocean biomes but add a new "abyssal ocean" biome that stretches at least down to y=0. Below y=20 or so the light level becomes very dark, and deep ocean fish spawn. It appears opaquely dark blue from the surface
the ocean floor in all ocean biomes should be made of primarily basalt variants where there would be stone
Sunken debris on the dark ocean floor. Maybe just a box. A metal box, not unlike a shulker box, that requires a specific process to open, and has...Something inside. I want the player to realize that it's important but take FOREVER to figure out how to get it open
Clams you can dig from beaches, giant clams, and pearls+pearl blocks. Need I say more
cold biomes
Freezing effect is a threat in all cold biomes, when the player stops moving outside at night or when it's snowing, when the player gets wet in a cold biome, and of course when the player falls in powder snow
Campfires stop the freezing effect.
ICICLES.
ICICLES. They have been WIDELY requested and asked for by players. It would be incredibly easy to implement—like, just recolor the stalactites........oh, and when one drips on you, you get 5 seconds of freezing
People have also been begging Mojang for a cold/icy cave, and I agree. Ice! caves! with! icicles! To make them more worthwhile to visit, they should contain ✨frostflowers✨, similar to spore blossoms, except 1) you need silk touch to collect them and 2) they will only grow on blue ice
jungles
So, jungles should be the most biodiverse biome. They're jungles. They should also be more challenging to survive in
Pitcher plants. They hold water, like cauldrons. They are the breeding ground for...
...Poison dart frogs! Which can be used to craft poisoned arrows.
A Rafflesia "stench flower." Zombies are drawn to it, maybe?
other forests
Temperate forests should have random mossy patches. You agree. Reblog
Deer. One in five spawn with antlers, which can be several sizes; the largest antlers have a 1% chance of spawning. Any two deer can breed, but antlered deer will fight each other. Antlered deer drop their antlers after breeding. They would be fast enough that the only way to kill one is with arrows.
Songbirds. Like tropical fish, they would be a single mob with lots of colorful variants
arid biomes
A lush desert that has more plant life, similar to real deserts.
A scrubland biome that serves as an intermediate between savanna, desert and badlands.
Patches of thorny brambles that spread over the ground in scrubland biomes.
Some deserts should have red sand and red sandstone. Currently red sand spawns in a single layer in badlands and red sandstone doesn't spawn at all. It's awful
Other mobs
cave fish, to add life to the aquifers
catfish for swamps and rivers
Crows. Earn their trust by feeding them, and they will give you gifts. But harm one and all the crows start attacking you
Just imagine seeing the death message "[Name] was pecked to death by crows." I would be in hysterics
HUMMINGBIRDS.
General
There should be more potions. Potion ingredients are probably the best reason to incorporate Random MacGuffins into new structures.
Off the top of my head: if you wanted to do something similar to the Echo Shards but less MacGuffiny, you could put an essential ingredient to a Potion of Retracing in the Ancient Cities. It makes a glowy particle effect linger on blocks you've walked on recently, more intense the more recently
Add plants that function as medicinal herbs to remove particular status effects from you, while giving you a brief positive status effect (as suspicious stews do).
Fruit trees. Everyone has been saying this since forever. I imagine apple trees could grow as orchards outside villages, or occasionally singly in forests.
Corn is the best candidate for a new crop in my opinion. Corn could be more than 2 blocks tall, obstructing visibility and allowing for the construction of corn mazes. You could also make corn meal or popcorn with it.
But just imagine how terrifying it would be to be lost in a corn field and hear zombie noises around you
Structure updates
Updated mineshafts. Now instead of a single central room, they can contain several larger rooms that each have a chance of generating a vertical shaft above them, stretching up to 30 blocks tall, with the remnants of stairs. A fraction are "collapsed" and filled with gravel and dirt.
About 20% of these rooms contain piles of TNT, and another 20% contain piles of raw ores
The ends of mineshaft tunnels can also connect to small rooms with chests containing lanterns, compasses, empty maps, etc...
dungeons have several multi-roomed variations, a few have walled-off "secret" rooms, some only generate in the deepslate layer.
The one new structure I would for sure add: mountain castles. This is also a widely requested idea that no one would be mad about. They could be various in size, ranging from a single tower to a large intact structure with like a dozen towers. Some castles could be so crumbled they're unidentifiable piles of cobblestone.
the castle dungeons sometimes contain zombie villagers, and there are other hints that the castles were once inhabited by villagers.
there are a couple unique blocks found in the castles that can be used as villager job blocks, even though they don't naturally generate in villages.
