The city of Naperville can begin enforcing its ban on the sale of assault rifles, a federal judge has ruled.
U.S. District Judge Virginia Kendall denied a request from a Naperville gun shop owner, who wanted a temporary injunction to block the ordinance halting the sale of assault weapons from going into effect until a lawsuit seeking to overturn it is settled in court.
Kendall said both Naperville’s ban passed in August — and Illinois’ ban on the sale and distribution of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, approved five months later — are “constitutionally sound.”
“Illinois and Naperville compellingly argue their laws protect public safety by removing particularly dangerous weapons from circulation,” she said in her opinion.
City Attorney Michael DiSanto said Naperville’s ordinance is now in effect as a result of that decision and subject to compliance and enforcement.
“There have not been any court rulings regarding the state’s assault weapon legislation that inhibit the enforceability of the city’s ordinance,” he said.
In her ruling, Kendall said the Naperville gun shop owner failed to demonstrate he would be irreparably harmed by the city’s ban.
Robert Bevis, owner of Law Weapons & Supply, and the National Association for Gun Rights filed a federal lawsuit in September saying the city’s ban on the sale of assault rifles is “unconstitutional” and should be overturned.
“Bevis has not furnished any evidence that he will lose substantial sales, and he can still sell almost any other type of gun,” Kendall said in the opinion.
She added that while a high number of assault weapons are in circulation, only 5%, or 24 million of the 462 million firearms, are assault weapons.
“As a percentage of the total population, less than 2% of all Americans own assault weapons,” she said.
Bevis and the gun rights organization sought a court order from Kendall to block Naperville’s ban on assault rifle sales from going into effect Jan. 1 until the lawsuit was resolved. In December, the city agreed not to enforce the ban until Kendall ruled, which she now has.
In the meantime, Illinois enacted its own ban on the sales of high-powered weapons and high-capacity magazines that would supersede Naperville’s ordinance. That law also is being challenged in the courts, and several judges in southern Illinois counties put a temporary hold on its enforcement for downstate plaintiffs and firearms dealers.
Bevis has not filed a challenge to the state law.
Neither he nor the gun rights organization could be reached for comment on Kendall’s ruling or if they might seek to appeal it.

Since I have a write up about every other AU I have in this poll, I thought I’d give the medieval AU one as well.
Albert Munson III was traitorous bastard whose only thought was making the next gold coin. Coin he never seemed to be able to hold on to. Gambling, booze, and women were only some of Albert’s vices. His younger, more level headed brother, Wayne did everything he could to try and keep as much of Edward’s inheritance as possible, but it was a losing battle.
Finally Albert spent the wrong man’s coin and ended up beheaded at the behest of the crown. The two remaining Munsons were stripped of their lands, title, what little was left of their coffers.
King Lawrence demanded that Wayne replace his court jester, but Edward stepped in and volunteered, saying that he knew how to sing, and to play the lute. King Lawrence agreed.
The point of the jester is to speak truth to power. To make the king laugh in front of his court and then think later in private. Eddie was good. He was just getting a feel for the old King when the man passes away suddenly. Edward would have suspected the young prince, Stephan, of murdering the old man. But the prince cried harder then the queen mother, Queen Penelope at the funeral.
Queen Penelope is eager to find Stephan a bride as soon as possible. Duchess Annika, called Nancy by her friends. The Marquise Robbyne of Buckley. Her first husband died while she was still young enough to be married off again. Ladies Tamera and Victoria. But the brightest gem is Princess Christine of Cunningham. Are all brought to the castle with a gift and their doweries to entice King Stephan to the alter.
Too bad his eyes tend to wander toward his jester then bevy of beauties his mother keeps parading around.
Sir Dustin is Stephan’s personal servant and guard. Hopper is chief of the guards that include Sirs Lucas, Michael, and William. Lord Jonathan was given head of his family’s fading house when his father died in the battle that Albert, Earl of Munson had sold the king’s own weapons to the opposition.

This life story begins at the end, with Aneurin “Nye” Bevan in a hospital bed, befittingly for the visionary political colossus who created Britain’s National Health Service in 1948.As Bevan (Michael Sheen) is creeping towards death, flashbacks of memory bring a hallucinatory quality reminiscent of The Singing Detective: beds and ward curtains are woven into scenes of his childhood as a Welsh miner’s son and a stammering schoolboy bullied by his headteacher. We follow his rise from local council politics to the House of Commons and high office under Clement Attlee (Stephanie Jacob, slightly sinister in a bald wig). Doctors and nurses morph into a bevy of characters from his past, the cast juggling this multiplicity adeptly, and there is a surreal song and dance breakout number as, one presumes, Bevan’s morphine kicks in.In a production written by Tim Price and directed by Rufus Norris, there is some inspired stagecraft as the hospital curtains of Vicki Mortimer’s ingenious set swish to reveal debating chambers and libraries. But the narrative is too long-reaching and schematic, its extensively researched material not fully absorbed dramatically.Co-produced with Wales Millennium Centre and running at over two and a half hours, Nye is a too full, yet too simplified, survey of the personal and political elements in Bevan’s world, with some high-pitched moments accompanied by syrupy music.
Bevan is presented as a renegade, Jeremy Corbyn-like figure of his day: both a thorn in the side of Winston Churchill (impersonated well by Tony Jayawardena) and the Labour party. There are council meetings, parliamentary debates, his first meeting with his wife, Jennie Lee (Sharon Small), the war and its aftermath. So much is packed in that the momentous invention of the NHS is tackled, as if in summary, in the last half hour.
Only then do we hear how the nation’s doctors were heavily opposed to Bevan’s proposition. There are exchanges on a screen with an army of hostile medics who look like Minority Report holograms, but we whizz past this opposition, which has enough in-built conflict to be worthy of is own full-length drama.
Sheen (grey helmet hair, chequered pyjamas) is well cast for his natural charm. He brings a curious fey playfulness and vulnerability but does not plumb the depths of his commanding character – or perhaps the busy script simply does not allow it. However, Bevan’s limitations as a son to his dying father bring some emotional mileage as he is too busy caring for the nation’s wellbeing to be there for him.
Small is not given much room for manoeuvre either, and Lee is used for exposition purposes rather than dramatic ones. She talks of her open marriage, describing Bevan as a “rutting stag”, which sits at odds with the cutely pyjama-clad man on stage. There are brief reflections on navigations between her career as Westminster’s youngest MP – and one of only five women – and her marriage. Both she and Bevan hailed from working-class backgrounds and there is a moment when he talks about “impostor syndrome” in this hallowed space. She is unequivocal in her outsider status: “That’s why this place needs us.” Despite these feisty lines, she remains flat, which seems a crime – her character could have been far richer.
Nye is still a vital play because Bevan is a vital man of British history. It succeeds in showing us just how high the hurdles he faced were. When he describes prewar healthcare – one service for the rich, one for the poor – it rings of today’s two-tiered system. “I want to give you your dignity,” he says, as the NHS launches. It is a rousing moment yet contains a terrible, tragic irony, given what is coming to pass with his precious legacy.

Leaked New (Jew) York Times, The Hub of Yellow Journalism, Gaza Memo Tells Journalists To Avoid Words “Genocide,” “Ethnic Cleansing,” And “Occupied Territoty”
Amid the Internal Battle over the New York Times’s Coverage of Terrorist, Fascist, Apartheid, Illegal Occupier and War Criminal Zionist 🐖 Isra-hell’s War, Top Editors Handed Down a Set of Directives.
— Jeremy Scahill, Ryan Grim | April 15 2024 | The Intercept

The New York Times OR The Jew York Times instructed journalists covering Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip to restrict the use of the terms “genocide” and “ethnic cleansing” and to “avoid” using the phrase “occupied territory” when describing Palestinian land, according to a copy of an internal memo obtained by The Intercept.
The memo also instructs reporters not to use the word Palestine “except in very rare cases” and to steer clear of the term “refugee camps” to describe areas of Gaza historically settled by displaced Palestinians expelled from other parts of Palestine during previous Israeli–Arab wars. The areas are recognized by the United Nations as refugee camps and house hundreds of thousands of registered refugees.
The memo — written by Times standards editor Susan Wessling, international editor Philip Pan, and their deputies — “offers guidance about some terms and other issues we have grappled with since the start of the conflict in October.”
While the document is presented as an outline for maintaining objective journalistic principles in reporting on the Gaza war, several Times staffers told The Intercept that some of its contents show evidence of the paper’s deference to Israeli narratives.
“It’s the kind of thing that looks professional and logical if you have no knowledge of the historical context of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.”
“I think it’s the kind of thing that looks professional and logical if you have no knowledge of the historical context of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict,” said a Times newsroom source, who requested anonymity for fear of reprisal, of the Gaza memo. “But if you do know, it will be clear how apologetic it is to Israel.”
First distributed to Times journalists in November, the guidance — which collected and expanded on past style directives about the Israeli–Palestinian conflict — has been regularly updated over the ensuing months. It presents an internal window into the thinking of Times international editors as they have faced upheaval within the newsroom surrounding the paper’s Gaza war coverage.
“Issuing guidance like this to ensure accuracy, consistency and nuance in how we cover the news is standard practice,” said Charlie Stadtlander, a Times spokesperson. “Across all our reporting, including complex events like this, we take care to ensure our language choices are sensitive, current and clear to our audiences.”
Issues over style guidance have been among a bevy of internal rifts at the Times over its Gaza coverage. In January, The Intercept reported on disputes in the Times newsroom over issues with an investigative story on systematic sexual violence on October 7. The leak gave rise to a highly unusual internal probe. The company faced harsh criticism for allegedly targeting Times workers of Middle East and North African descent, which Times brass denied. On Monday, executive editor Joe Kahn told staff that the leak investigation had been concluded unsuccessfully.
WhatsApp Debates
Almost immediately after the October 7 attacks and the launch of Israel’s scorched-earth war against Gaza, tensions began to boil within the newsroom over the Times coverage. Some staffers said they believed the paper was going out of its way to defer to Israel’s narrative on the events and was not applying even standards in its coverage. Arguments began fomenting on internal Slack and other chat groups.
The debates between reporters on the Jerusalem bureau-led WhatsApp group, which at one point included 90 reporters and editors, became so intense that Pan, the international editor, interceded.
“We need to do a better job communicating with each other as we report the news, so our discussions are more productive and our disagreements less distracting,” Pan wrote in a November 28 WhatsApp message viewed by The Intercept and first reported by the Wall Street Journal. “At its best, this channel has been a quick, transparent and productive space to collaborate on a complex, fast-moving story. At its worst, it’s a tense forum where the questions and comments can feel accusatory and personal.”
Pan bluntly stated: “Do not use this channel for raising concerns about coverage.”
Among the topics of debate in the Jerusalem bureau WhatsApp group and exchanges on Slack, reviewed by The Intercept and verified with multiple newsroom sources, were Israeli attacks on Al-Shifa Hospital, statistics on Palestinian civilian deaths, the allegations of genocidal conduct by Israel, and President Joe Biden’s pattern of promoting unverified allegations from the Israeli government as fact. (Pan did not respond to a request for comment.)
“It’s not unusual for news companies to set style guidelines. But there are unique standards applied to violence perpetrated by Israel.”
Many of the same debates were addressed in the Times’s Gaza-specific style guidance and have been the subject of intense public scrutiny.
“It’s not unusual for news companies to set style guidelines,” said another Times newsroom source, who also asked for anonymity. “But there are unique standards applied to violence perpetrated by Israel. Readers have noticed and I understand their frustration.”
“Words Like ‘Slaughter’”
The Times memo outlines guidance on a range of phrases and terms. “The nature of the conflict has led to inflammatory language and incendiary accusations on all sides. We should be very cautious about using such language, even in quotations. Our goal is to provide clear, accurate information, and heated language can often obscure rather than clarify the fact,” the memo says.
“Words like ‘slaughter,’ ‘massacre’ and ‘carnage’ often convey more emotion than information. Think hard before using them in our own voice,” according to the memo. “Can we articulate why we are applying those words to one particular situation and not another? As always, we should focus on clarity and precision — describe what happened rather than using a label.”
Despite the memo’s framing as an effort to not employ incendiary language to describe killings “on all sides,” in the Times reporting on the Gaza war, such language has been used repeatedly to describe attacks against Israelis by Palestinians and almost never in the case of Israel’s large-scale killing of Palestinians.
In January, The Intercept published an analysis of New York Times, Washington Post, and Los Angeles Times coverage of the war from October 7 through November 24 — a period mostly before the new Times guidance was issued. The Intercept analysis showed that the major newspapers reserved terms like “slaughter,” “massacre,” and “horrific” almost exclusively for Israeli civilians killed by Palestinians, rather than for Palestinian civilians killed in Israeli attacks.
The analysis found that, as of November 24, the New York Times had described Israeli deaths as a “massacre” on 53 occasions and those of Palestinians just once. The ratio for the use of “slaughter” was 22 to 1, even as the documented number of Palestinians killed climbed to around 15,000.
The latest Palestinian death toll estimate stands at more than 33,000, including at least 15,000 children — likely undercounts due to Gaza’s collapsed health infrastructure and missing persons, many of whom are believed to have died in the rubble left by Israel’s attacks over the past six months.
Touchy Debates
The Times memo touches on some of the most highly charged — and disputed — language around the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. The guidance spells out, for instance, usage of the word “terrorist,” which The Intercept previously reported was at the center of a spirited newsroom debate.
“It is accurate to use ‘terrorism’ and ‘terrorist’ in describing the attacks of Oct. 7, which included the deliberate targeting of civilians in killings and kidnappings,” according to the leaked Times memo. “We should not shy away from that description of the events or the attackers, particularly when we provide context and explanation.”
The guidance also instructs journalists to “Avoid ‘fighters’ when referring to the Oct. 7 attack; the term suggests a conventional war rather than a deliberate attack on civilians. And be cautious in using ‘militants,’ which is interpreted in different ways and may be confusing to readers.”
In the memo, the editors tell Times journalists: “We do not need to assign a single label or to refer to the Oct. 7 assault as a ‘terrorist attack’ in every reference; the word is best used when specifically describing attacks on civilians. We should exercise restraint and can vary the language with other accurate terms and descriptions: an attack, an assault, an incursion, the deadliest attack on Israel in decades, etc. Similarly, in addition to ‘terrorists,’ we can vary the terms used to describe the Hamas members who carried out the assault: attackers, assailants, gunmen.”
The Times does not characterize Israel’s repeated attacks on Palestinian civilians as “terrorism,” even when civilians have been targeted. This is also true of Israel’s assaults on protected civilian sites, including hospitals.
In a section with the headline “‘Genocide’ and Other Incendiary Language,” the guidance says, “‘Genocide’ has a specific definition in international law. In our own voice, we should generally use it only in the context of those legal parameters. We should also set a high bar for allowing others to use it as an accusation, whether in quotations or not, unless they are making a substantive argument based on the legal definition.”
Regarding “ethnic cleansing,” the document calls it “another historically charged term,” instructing reporters: “If someone is making such an accusation, we should press for specifics or supply proper context.”
Bucking International Norms
In the cases of describing “occupied territory” and the status of refugees in Gaza, the Times style guidelines run counter to norms established by the United Nations and international humanitarian law.
On the term “Palestine” — a widely used name for both the territory and the U.N.-recognized state — the Times memo contains blunt instructions: “Do not use in datelines, routine text or headlines, except in very rare cases such as when the United Nations General Assembly elevated Palestine to a nonmember observer state, or references to historic Palestine.” The Times guidance resembles that of the Associated Press Stylebook.
The memo directs journalists not to use the phrase “refugee camps” to describe long-standing refugee settlements in Gaza. “While termed refugee camps, the refugee centers in Gaza are developed and densely populated neighborhoods dating to the 1948 war. Refer to them as neighborhoods, or areas, and if further context is necessary, explain how they have historically been called refugee camps.”
The United Nations recognizes eight refugee camps in the Gaza Strip. As of last year, before the war started, the areas were home to more than 600,000 registered refugees. Many are descendants of those who fled to Gaza after being forcibly expelled from their homes in the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, which marked the founding of the Jewish state and mass dispossession of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.
The Israeli government has long been hostile to the historical fact that Palestinians maintain refugee status, because it signifies that they were displaced from lands they have a right to return to.
“It’s like, ‘Oh let’s not say occupation because it might make it look like we’re justifying a terrorist attack.’”
Since October 7, Israel has repeatedly bombed refugee camps in Gaza, including Jabaliya, Al Shati, Al Maghazi, and Nuseirat.
The memo’s instructions on the use of “occupied territories” says, “When possible, avoid the term and be specific (e.g. Gaza, the West Bank, etc.) as each has a slightly different status.” The United Nations, along with much of the world, considers Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem to be occupied Palestinian territories, seized by Israel in the 1967 Arab–Israeli war.
The admonition against the use of the term “occupied territories,” said a Times staffer, obscures the reality of the conflict, feeding into the U.S. and Israeli insistence that the conflict began on October 7.
“You are basically taking the occupation out of the coverage, which is the actual core of the conflict,” said the newsroom source. “It’s like, ‘Oh let’s not say occupation because it might make it look like we’re justifying a terrorist attack.’”

Could you tell us more about Phillip and eloise getting together? It sounds super emotional.
How long are they together before colin finds out?
In this AU Phillip and Eloise's story isn't one of love at first sight but one of falling slowly.
Eloise had always heard about Phillip ever since Colin's first year when he would mention his bevy of friends in every single letter he wrote home, and eventually she became acquainted with him whenever the Bridgertons met Phillip and his mum in Diagon Alley for the back-to-school shop and when he stayed for sleepovers at Aubrey Hollow. She noted he was a lot more reserved in comparison to her brother and Michael and she enjoyed observing the dynamic of him and Sophie being the responsible pair of the group as they kept Colin and Michael in line.
Once she got to Hogwarts herself she saw a lot more of him during the three years their time in secondary education overlapped and she would always greet him in passing on the way to classes, though they never properly chatted together unless the Bridgerton siblings ended up sat at the same dining table with Colin's gang in the Great Hall. During her first three years she had to endure a lot of her classmates eagerly discussing just how hot the Awesome Foursome were and while she perfectly understood why everyone was crazy for Michael Stirling, she couldn't understand why anyone would be crushing over Colin (oblivious to just how pink Penelope would turn whenever her brother's name was mentioned), and in her opinion based off of looks she thought it was obvious that Phillip was far better looking than her brother - though this wasn't an opinion she felt necessary to share with her peers.
Cut to several years later just after the Awesome Foursome have returned from their interrailing adventures and Eloise is filled in on everything that went down in the fallout between Colin and Phillip. While Penelope offers Colin a shoulder to cry on, Eloise can't help but feel for Phillip and feels as though Colin is being too harsh and petty about the Marina situation. When she sees Phillip at Simon and Daphne's wedding she pulls up a chair and pours them a drink before listening to his side of the story, the perspective of which she empathises with and lets him know she's there for him if he ever needs to talk regardless of the shit Colin's making him put up with. From then on his connection to her as a mere family friend develops into a fully fledged friendship and she meets up with him quite regularly along with the group of Michael, Penelope, Sophie, and Benedict, and eventually Colin too once he and Phillip make amends (as well as begrudgingly making some sort of peace with Sophie and Benedict's relationship).
Then three months after the twins are born, Eloise pops round to visit Phillip after coming across an old herbology tome in her family's library and immediately curious to see if he had already read it. Marina had moved in with him shortly before the twins were born so they could tackle the newborn stage as a team, but when Eloise sees the state of the flat and of an incredibly stressed-out and sleep-deprived Phillip and asks him where Marina is, she's the first person to learn that Marina left two weeks previously.
While helping to soothe Oliver, Eloise listens as Phillip ends up telling her everything; Marina had been badly suffering with postpartum depression and despite getting help she severely doubted her ability to be a good mother and felt as though the twins would be better off without her in their life. Phillip desperately tried to convince her to stay, telling her it was only natural to have those doubts since he wasn't sure he was all that good at being a parent too, but nothing he could say could pull Marina out of her low maternal self-esteem. She said she felt it would be best if she left but that she didn't want to never come back; she just needed time to sort her head out and hoped he would allow her the chance to come back and be a mother when she was ready. Though he didn't want her to leave him alone to raise the twins single-handedly, Phillip also wanted what was best for Marina and if she needed to take a step away for her mental health, he knew it would be far better than her staying and only feeling worse off. While Eloise was incredibly amazed by just how considerate and understanding he had been of Marina's mental health, she couldn't believe he hadn't told anyone and had been struggling as a single parent of baby twins since. While Phillip tried to insist he was alright, Eloise determined he wasn't and declared she would move in to help him with the twins and ordered him to get his head down to catch up on some much needed sleep.
Everyone was quite stunned to learn of Eloise's new living arrangement especially considering she had willingly made the decision to gain two babies as roommates and what's more she was even being a hands-on pseudo-parent of sorts - which was shocking since she would scarper out of any room Amelia was in the second her niece started crying. Eloise was a little surprised by her decision too, but it was a choice she hadn't hesitated in making as soon as she took in the exhaustion in Phillip's eyes. He was nothing but a kind and thoughtful man and since he was never going to ask for help, she was going to provide it to him unasked and without expecting any gratitude.
As the months wore on and whenever they visited Aubrey Hollow with the twins, Eloise's family were shocked that she had such a way with the babies in spite of any previous experience with infants. She soothed them straight away whenever they started to fuss and she proved to be a very engaged parental figure as she played with them and encouraged them to achieve their milestones. When they left, Violet and Edmund would exchange curious looks with one another, remarking that Eloise wasn't just playing mum to the twins but was also playing partner to Phillip, something they had picked up on just in the way the pair looked at each other and bounced off of one another.
Naturally living under the same roof bonded Eloise and Phillip closer than ever before as they would spend every single day together taking care of the babies, cooking and sharing meals together, and unwinding after putting the twins to bed by kicking back on the sofa together and watching trashy TV or just chatting away for hours on end. Their nights would end with a big hug before they turned in for the night into their respective bedrooms, though gradually these hugs would last a little bit longer with every passing day; though neither one of them were willing to acknowledge what the lingering embraces meant. Slowly but surely their platonic bond was building up into something more although they were both quick to deny these blossoming feelings; even though the sight of Phillip leaving the bathroom after a shower with nothing but a towel slung around his waist would send Eloise's imagination into overdrive; and not to mention the moments where Eloise would casually finish his sentences about anything herbology-related thus proving she hung onto his every word made Phillip want to kiss her senseless.
Neither one were prepared to act on these feelings, both of them fearing they could jeopardise their situation if their feelings weren't reciprocated or even if they did but things wouldn't work out between them. It wasn't until Amanda uttered her first word and called Eloise "mama" that suddenly changed everything. Freaking out that she had overstepped in her role and that the babies were getting too attached, Phillip came home to find Eloise frantically packing her bags to leave. Realising he couldn't lose her at least without telling her how he felt he finally put his feelings on the line and confessed how deeply she meant to him, and after a heart to heart and a tender kiss Eloise decided to stay.
They kept their relationship quiet at first, not wanting anyone's opinion or advice on the matter, but naturally Violet and Edmund sensed there had been a change to their relationship, however neither one said anything to their daughter, knowing she'd come to them in her own time. Meanwhile between Sophie and Benedict they recognised just how happy the supposed "just roommates" were, and after some gentle prodding Phillip ended up telling all to Sophie as Eloise did with Benedict. They were very happy for the pair and would even visit their flat for the occasional double date while their relationship was still under wraps; and they were entrusted not to breathe a word to Colin especially after how badly he had taken Sophie and Benedict getting together. Eloise and Phillip knew it would have to come out eventually but they did manage to successfully keep their relationship under wraps for several months, with the truth only coming to light a few week after the twins first birthday, but by that time Colin's reaction hardly fazed them, not when they were very much in love with one another.

A-T-4 078 The Pale Fountains Unless
Standing outside the pub on Friday night there was a bevy of middle-aged men that turned up. Where have you all been? THE gig! What gig? John Head
I didn't know this because I'm only a passing fan of The Pale Fountains but John is Michael Head's brother, he joined The Pale Fountains around the time they were making their debut album Pacific Street and after The Pale Fountains split he would be in Shack and Michael Head & The Strands
Pacific Street The Pale Fountains debut for Virgin was released in 1984. A cult following has grown up around the group and this album, it's a fine example of sophisticated jangle pop
Personally I think it has little in common with The Smiths but the success of The Smiths would come to define indie pop and jangle in the 1980s. It's easy to see the aesthetic of The Smiths cover star, picked by Morrissey and worked up as sleeve artwork by Caryn Gough, copied on the sleeve of Pacific Street. The guy on the sleeve of Pacific Street is "Deák Gábor, Hungarian revolutioner, he belonged to a group which fought in the 7th district of Budapest during the revolution. The photo was taken [in 1956] by Mario De Biasi while working for "Epoca", the Italian magazine" - thank's to the discogs user that did the work here

EQ Match imparts the EQ profile of one file to another, great for matching ADR to location dialog. Enhanced options for audio pros RX 8 Advanced is a worthy update. It makes restoring clarity to internet-compressed audio like remote meetings, podcast interviews, video calls, and real-time audio streaming a breeze, thanks to Spectral Recovery. Effortlessly correct pitch fluctuations from physical audio transfers from vinyl and cassette with Wow & Flutter. Recovering a dialog performance is easier than ever with Dialogue Contour. Remove unwanted ambience from dialog tracks with Dialogue De-reverb. You also get modules such as De-rustle, which eliminates lavalier mic rustle from dialog, Dialogue Isolate, which extracts dialog from loud environments, and De-wind, which removes low-frequency wind rumble from location dialog. Ambience Match fills in the constant background noise under constructed sentences and ADR lines, while EQ Match creates consistent sonics between two different dialog recordings. On top of that, RX Advanced supports multichannel audio up to Dolby Atmos 7.1.2, making it an indispensable tool for post-production and video game projects.
Repair Assistant makes audio restoration easier than ever The engineers here at Sweetwater will tell you — audio restoration is a time-intensive endeavor. But not anymore! RX Advanced’s Repair Assistant makes short work of clipping, clicks, and more without the usual tedious trial-and-error workflow. All you need to do is select the type of material, be it music, dialog, or other, and let RX Advanced analyze the audio. It then gives you processing suggestions to point you in the right direction, along with three different intensities for each. You then review and audition the different suggestions, hit render, and you’re good to go.
Music Rebalance gives new meaning to “fix it in the mix” Mastering a badly mixed song is an uphill battle. Now, thanks to RX Advanced, that’s no longer the case. Its Music Rebalance tool allows for independent gain adjustment of vocals, bass, percussion, and other elements of a mix — after the project has been mixed. Drums too loud? Vocals not loud enough? Music Rebalance allows you to fix these and other similar problems. Beyond that, you can export these individual elements as stems for further processing and mixing. Music Rebalance is also available as an AudioSuite plug-in.

Baggy Trousers Down Python Road: Chapter 4- Sir. I'm a coward.
Tumblr media
There was a ghost roaming the halls of MacNaughton School… according to Bert Nudge. It started at Tuesday dinner. During the sacred tradition of pushing slimy semolina around their bowls, Bert proposed that there was an evil presence amongst them. Apparently, a frail figure was gliding across the dorm room corridor, wailing like a banshee, coaxing humans into its slender arms. Other than Ronnie, no one else was convinced.
“Pull the other one Bert” Bevis stared down at his inedible dessert with disdain.
“No really! Would I lie about this?” His voice was frantic.
“Yes.” They all said in unison. First the bloodthirsty rabbit in the gardens and now this. His initials might as well have been ‘BS’. Bert, however, was convinced there was someone, or something, out there. Done with dessert, the friends went to investigate. Earlier than the rest of their classmates, they crept on the tattered carpets with the hopes of finding a spirit. Ronnie stayed behind. He often did.
Isaac led the group, slightly more fearless than the others. Bert clung to Louis and Louis clung to Bevis and Bevis clung to Bert. The November evening had cast its cold shadows through the windows and every sound sounded ear-splitting. That’s when they heard it.
A deep, guttural moan.
Bevis screamed first, his shriek reaching almost soprano levels, prompting the rest of the boys to follow him in a domino of yelps.
Mr Idle was on his way back to his lodgings when three sweaty and sobbing 13-year-olds ran into him. After trying to calm them down (which had little to no effect), he asked them what had gotten them into such a flap. Bevis explained, all his words coming out in a hyperventilated mess. Mr Idle listened and tried not to laugh. The sheer commitment to the terror was impressive, but the school couldn’t be haunted. Ghosts weren’t real and he was prepared to die on that hill. Sensing that the boys were still shaken, he invited them for a cup of Hot Chocolate in the Teacher’s Lounge. Michael and Eileen were there. Eric decided that this was a them problem.
The next week, an unwell Robin Birdall was weaving through the labyrinth to the matron’s office. The strawberry blond found himself jumping at every creak and thwack of branches against the window panes. Gale had offered to go with him and he had turned down his friend’s camaraderie. Severely regretting it, he trudged forward, his little green slippers tapping on the floor. He had only the stairs and he was there. Carefully walking down, he heard the moan the Year 9s had been conspiring about. Hesitantly, he looked up. There stood a sallow figure, a billowing nightgown blowing in the draft. His moans became more like cries. Not that Robin stayed long enough to determine the noise. He sprinted down the rest of the stairs and frantically kicked the Matron’s door open. Miss Weston wasn’t particularly pleased but she slapped a paper towel on his sick head and chalked it all up to a fever.
Soon, news of this spirit had spread throughout the school. Faculty were constantly being bothered with sightings and origin stories, each explanation being met with hysteria. Mr Chapman humoured them, saying it must be a friendly spirit if it is calling for help. Mr Palin chose comfort, complimenting their overactive imagination and confidently declaring that nothing would hurt them. Mr Cleese turned it to his advantage and threatened that he and the ghost were in cahoots to stop the pupils from misbehaving in lessons.
However, the older years were less taken with the idea of a paranormal entity in their presence.
Marshall Pither liked ghost stories but that’s all they were to him. Stories. From several heated debates with Quince, he found out his friend felt much the same way. Agreeing with them was Paul but that boy had the same creativity as a brutalist flat.
“I mean… Imagine if this determined the existence of the spirit realm!” Quince flicked through his comics as Marshall excitedly paced.
“They couldn’t be real, but the fact is they might be!” Marshall’s round face turned pink as he readjusted his glasses. Quince didn't look up. Paul was asleep.
“Quince?” He playfully shoved his friend, who shoved him back in return. The taller boy didn’t respond, a bit creeped out. Marshall decided to drop it, his imagination going wild with the scientific progress that could be right under their noses.
Elliot Ximenez took this rumour remarkably seriously. Paranoid and obsessive, this sudden supernatural frenzy confirmed his own fears. He spent his days reading into the devil’s servants and now it seemed that they roamed around his hallowed ground.
“Satan’s serpents are here! One glides across our chambers condemning us. We need to act before our souls are left clawing in the trail of mud down to hell itself!” Elliot spat. This got no reaction. Zachery was making paper snowflakes, Samuel was reading, Jim was motorboating Aggie and Ernie was watching keenly. Turned out, his fellow seekers of light were not as concerned with the malevolent phantom running amuck.
Tallulah Blanc, however, was. A corkboard with all the sightings and details was hung up in her dorm, with Jocasta regularly updating it. Both of them believed this to be a cruel prank, as did Jack and Tommy (though they considered themselves too busy to be bothered by it).
“Jocasta love?” Tallulah put on her dressing gown. Her roommate, also robed in her nightdress, grabbed her torch “Remember to be quiet”.
The two ghostbusters left the safety of their room and tip-toed to the 2nd floor, anxiously awaiting to catch their ‘spirit’. An hour later, the shrill howling began. Petrified, Jocasta approached the stairs, Tallulah holding her hand. They looked up.
There it was.
They wanted to run but couldn’t. Screams wouldn’t manifest and they stood at the bottom of the stairs gawking at the mysterious white sheet.
It spoke.
“I-I’m sorry” It… sniffed? Jocasta lowered her torch and climbed the steps. Tallulah looked at her roommate in awe with wide and wild eyes. Once the intrepid girl had reached the apparition, she was faced with a very small boy. He was sickly pale and his dirty blond hair ricocheted the light from her torch, almost appearing as a halo. His eyes were puffy and crimson from his continuous sobbing and his long nightshirt sleeves were drenched in his own tears.
“It’s just a Year 7” Jocasta called, prompting her curious friend to join her upstairs.
“So it is!” she exclaimed in her soft tone “What’s your name sweetie?”
The boy started to blubber.
“Herbert Swampcastle… and I want my papa!” He promptly flung himself at Jocasta and proceeded to sob into her chest. Holding the inconsolable child, she motioned to her taller friend to get help.
Herbert had joined a bit later than the rest of the Year 7s and was having trouble fitting in. His father had come into possession of a withering construction company and wanted him out of the way. Sensitive and empathetic, this was tearing the poor tween apart.
Unfortunately, the only teacher awake to help was Mr Cleese (who appeared very sweaty and bothered when he opened the door), who was not very understanding about the situation. Herbert was given a shot of Bovril and sent to his dorm, which was then promptly locked for the rest of the year.
The two girls then returned to their room, their two other bunkmates, Petra and Jeanie fast asleep.
“I think we did a rather splendid job, Jocasta love…” Tallulah snuggled under the covers, her eyes closing as sleep consumed her. She didn’t reply. She just watched her friend drift off, with the hope that another ghost would return to the halls. She was desperate to have her hand held again.

Oh Christmas Tree!
Every year I look forward to decorating my home for Christmas. It starts pretty much right after Halloween and goes through Thanksgiving, getting everything ready and organized to set up.
It all started back many moons ago when I was invited to the ultimate Christmas house over at my friends Michael and Maria’s house. Now, I’ve got quite a good amount of trees and sure, they’re cute and pretty. But they are no comparison to what Michael does to transform their house into the winter wonderland of awesomeness that it is. He’s been in magazines for his style. Yeah, I’m not kidding! He’s like Martha Stewart… just better!
Well, he motivated me. Actually, he motivated my whole family after we got bit by the Christmas bug at his house. Once we moved into this house several years back, it really started to take hold and we all became slightly obsessed with decorating for Christmas. And since he has themed trees all over the house, we went with our own themes and a bevy of handmade ornaments as well. All in all, we’ve got about 26 trees up, some small, some medium and some large. But the gallery below features our most favorites!
So without further ado, I give you the 2023 Cloverberry Cottage Christmas Tree House Tour!
