2019 WIKIPEDIA EDIT-A-THON SATURDAY, MARCH 2 AT THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART WITH HUNDREDS OF EVENTS INTERNATIONALLY THROUGHOUT THE MONTH OF MARCH
FEBRUARY 14, 2019 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PRESS CONTACT: MOLLY KURZIUS, [email protected]
New York City -- Art+Feminism’s sixth-annual Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, an all-day event designed to generate coverage of gender, feminism, and the arts on Wikipedia, will take place at the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Education and Research Building, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, 4 West 54 Street, on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The much-anticipated event features panel discussions, workshops, tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, ongoing editing support, reference materials, childcare, and refreshments. People of all gender identities and expressions are encouraged to attend.
“This year we focused on growth, both in people and in focus,” said Art+Feminism lead co-organizers Siân Evans, Jacqueline Mabey, McKensie Mack, Michael Mandiberg, and Melissa Tamani Becerra. “We welcomed Melissa Tamani Becerra as lead co-organizer, we now boast thirteen of Art+Feminism regional organizers from Accra to Taiwan, and we’ve brought on Community and Communication Fellows with the goal of training the next generation of activists in the arts. And, in focusing our 2019 campaign on editing about non-binary topics, we made public our personal commitment to an expansive understanding of gender. This way, we can better represent the gender identities of Art+Feminism organizers and participants."
The Edit-a-thon at The Museum of Modern Art will feature a series of programs throughout the day. This year’s event kicks off with a conversation exploring visibility and vulnerability, featuring writer and archivist Che Gossett; performance artist, writer, and educator Alok Vaid-Menon; and Simone Browne, an Associate Professor in the Department of African and African Diaspora Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. The discussion is moderated by Danielle A. Jackson, Curatorial Assistant, Department of Media and Performance Art, The Museum of Modern Art.
The Edit-a-thon will also feature Gallery Sessions on feminist art; a discussion of the forward-thinking teaching artists who shaped the development of the Department of Education via materials in the library archives; a workshop on creating boundaries to combat implicit and explicit bias; and a teach-in on deleting and defending articles on Wikipedia. With the intention of making women artists and photographers of the African Diaspora more visible, The Black Lunch Table hosts their Wikimedia Photo Booth. Professional photographers Laylah Amatullah Barrayn, Andrea Cauthen, and Adama Delphine Fawundu will be on hand taking portraits for upload to Wikimedia Commons. Communal editing tables will be hosted by AfroCROWD, an organization that increases awareness of free culture movements among people of African descent, and POWarts, which champions the professional lives of women in the art world. Across the street, New York Public Library’s 53rd Street Branch will host Drag Queen Story Hour and offer a zine-making workshop.
In addition to the Edit-a-thon at The Museum of Modern Art, New York City will play host to events at a wide range of institutions, including The Jewish Museum (March 3); Kickstarter (March 3); International Center of Photography (March 9); Interference Archive (March 10); Bard Graduate Center (March 16); Columbia University (March 16); Pratt Institute (March 19); The School of Visual Arts Library (March 21); Hauser & Wirth (March 27). Internationally, edit-a-thons will take place during the month of March at hundreds of institutions such as Impact Hub, Accra; Kunstmuseum Basel; The Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus; Buni Innovation Hub, Dar es Salaam; Pand P, Eindhoven; Università degli studi di Salerno, Fisciano; MAMCO, Geneva; Asia Art Archive, Hong Kong; Cornell University, Ithaca; Musée d’art de Joliette; ICA, Los Angeles; Initiative for Indigenous Futures, Montreal; University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Mills College Art Museum, Oakland; Centre Culturel Suisse, Paris; Le Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Quebec City; University of Nevada, Reno; Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Santiago; Womany Wonderland, Taipei City; Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, The University of British Columbia, Vancouver; Winston-Salem State University; Material Zürich; and online in a month-long Edit-a-thon led by Women in Red.  An updating list of venues can be found on the Art+Feminism’s website: http://www.artandfeminism.org/find-an-event/
On the eve of the March Edit-a-thons, Art+Feminism announced the release of new artworks from Wendy Red Star and Tuesday Smillie, created under the auspices of the Call to Action art commissions program. Established in 2017, artists are invited to create Creative Commons licensed works to be hosted on Wikimedia Commons; Divya Mehra’s Dangerous Women (Blaze of Glory) was the inaugural commission. Ashkaamne (matrilineal inheritance) (2019) by Wendy Red Star depicts the artist and her daughter, Beatrice Red Star Fletcher, reclining in matching striped shirts and blankets, with the words, “Apsáalooke feminist,” repeated in the background. Apsáalooke inheritance is based on matrilineal descent, tracing affiliation along with the mother-to-daughter line; the image represents a lineage, female empowerment, and the next generation.  Rage/Sorrow (2018) by Tuesday Smillie is an animated GIF. The text “RAGE” appears large, filling the square format from left to right. “RAGE” is quickly obscured by a cascade of rectangles and the text, “SORROW,” repeated in a smaller font. Rage/Sorrow, a born-digital work, suggests the role of technology and the internet in nurturing and exacerbating pre-existing social divisions. The endless loop of the GIF mimics a cycle of anger and anguish produced by the constant stream of horrifying news.
Founded in 2014 by Siân Evans, Jacqueline Mabey, Michael Mandiberg and Laurel Ptak, Art+Feminism is a do-it-yourself campaign to improve coverage of gender, feminism, and the arts on Wikipedia. Wikipedia’s gender trouble is well-documented; in a 2011 survey, the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of its contributors identify as women. This lack of participation has led to significant gaps in content on the world’s most popular online research tool. Since 2014, over 10,000 people at more than 800 events around the world have participated in our edit-a-thons, resulting in the creation and improvement of more than 33,000 articles on Wikipedia.
The 2019 Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at The Museum of Modern Art is organized by Art+Feminism, led by Siân Evans, Jacqueline Mabey, McKensie Mack, Michael Mandiberg, and Melissa Tamani Becerra, in collaboration with AfroCROWD, Black Lunch Table, Women in Red, the Professional Organization for Women in the Arts (POWarts) and The Museum of Modern Art, New York and with support from Qubit New Music, Inc. and Wikimedia NYC.
Art+Feminism’s Regional Ambassadors are Mohammed Sadat Abdulai, Accra; Marta Delatte, Barcelona; Daniela Brugger, Basel; Walaa Abdel Manaem, Cairo; Medhavi Gandhi, Chandigarh; Amanda Meeks, Flagstaff; Dominique Eliane, Ivory Coast; Stacey Allan, Los Angeles; Amber Berson, Montreal; Linden How, Portland; Taryn Tomasello, Portland; Juliana Monteiro, São Paulo and Jessie Mi, Taiwan. The 2019 Fellows are Keon Dillon and Nina Yeboah.
The Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at The Museum of Modern Art is supported by The Modern Women’s Fund.
The Art + Feminism initiative is made possible by the Wikimedia Foundation.
Education at MoMA is made possible by a partnership with Volkswagen of America.

Xmas 2021 Trilogy: part 3 GHOST OF SAVIOR FUTURE – by David D. Fowler & Aeon 999 – updated Dec 29, 2022
"Into this world, this demented inn, in which there is absolutely no room for him at all, Christ comes uninvited." – Thomas Merton
MFF offers our very best wishes for a happy 12 Days Of Christmas. In honor of our favorite MESSIAH, the links below go to some entertaining yuletide posts. We especially draw your attention to the poignant BIRTH UNDISTURBED video, exploring the creation of an extraordinary artistic rendition of Jesus' birth. We offer free viewings of two iconic films: SCROOGE, featuring Alastair Sim's definitive take on A Christmas Carol; and James Stewart's greatest performance, in Frank Capra's classic IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE.
We also invite you to check out the links at the bottom of the page for much more seasonal tomfoolery. JESUS: THE TRUE MYTH VS ATHEIST FAN FICTION challenges the recent resurgence of the questionable notion that Yeshua Of Nazareth was not a real historical figure. And the newly revised and much expanded edition of our 2020 JOYFUL CHRIST MASS AMID A CATASTROPHIC YEAR features more than 200 delightful videos. Finally: God bless y'all, every one – for a most merry extended Yule, and a hopeful 2023. Stay safe, friends!

To say that the world has been rocked this year is an understatement. The global pandemic has shifted our priorities inwards to the home, and given a sharp focus on what really matters. We’re all looking at our homes in a totally new light.
The current mood has us cocooning at home, where we want to celebrate the simple things. More than ever, our home is our sanctuary, and we need to feel connected, so we crave earthy, natural elements. We’re looking for honesty in design. The wabi-sabi ideas of finding beauty in imperfection and impermanence are really resonating right now, and our homes can reflect this feeling. Whilst these ideas have been showing in interiors for the past few years (you can read about Japanese design here), it seems that the current climate is accelerating the trend for a handcrafted, layered and textural home.

WALLS
We’re definitely seeing a huge trend towards textured wall finishes right now. These wall treatments exude a natural, earthy warmth that celebrate imperfection, and pair beautifully with other textural materials, such as raw timber and slubby linen. For this look, we want the walls to have a warmth about them, looking a little more like the baked earth of the Mediterranean, rather than the cold concrete of an industrial warehouse.
There are many ways to achieve a textural look on internal walls, from bagged brick, to cement render… but the trends were seeing most prominently right now all involve one key component – lime, aka crushed limestone.
Limewash Limewash is essentially a painted surface that incorporates tiny particles of crushed limestone, creating surfaces that are mottled and matte, with a chalky texture –something like suede. Available in a wide array of different colours, limewash lends luminosity to flat walls, and brings real depth to a space.
Look to the warmer colours in a lime wash paint or suede effect that lean to brown or yellow, like beige, cream and cashmere. Steer clear of textured walls in bright colours such as turquoise and purple that were applied using sponges in the 90s or the bright orange ‘Tuscan’ look. This time around  it’s about a more natural, earthy look.
Venetian Plaster When pigment is added to aged slaked lime plaster, the finish is known as Venetian plaster. The application in thin translucent layers creates a uniquely textured, soft yet polished finish, giving the appearance of depth and movement due to the marble dust combined with lime. Seen internationally in projects by designers-to-the-stars Axel Vervoordt and Vincent Van Duysen, we’re seeing a lot of this polished plaster finish in Australian interiors right now – and there’s no better example than in the award-winning ‘Budge Over Dover’ project by YSG Studio in Sydney, which features pigmented Venetian Plaster in a range of incredible colours, on both walls and ceilings!
Tadelakt Tadelakt has a similar soft, textural appearance to a limewash effect, but is perfect for wet areas. It’s a waterproof lime plaster surface used in Moroccan architecture. As it’s applied to the surface with a trowel, it gives a beautiful seamless appearance. Unlike tiles in the bathroom, there are no grout lines and it applies to curves effortlessly. When applied by a professional installer it can be used on all surfaces in a bathroom; walls, floor; vanity bench, and even the vanity basin.

FURNITURE, ART + OBJECTS
Creating a textural interior isn’t just limited to walls – furniture, objects and accessories all contribute to a layered, tactile space.
Organic rock forms were seen all over the Stockholm Furniture Fair in February where they were represented through vessels, lamps, tables and décor objects. Closer to home, we’re seeing naïve carved stone-like furniture, handcrafted sculptural limestone art and objects, and a huge trend in vintage stone tables right now!
Travertine Pieces made from natural stone that come from the earth are always a thing of beauty. Incorporating a textured natural stone such as travertine, complete with its imperfect holes and crevices just makes it more beautiful. We’re seeing lots of travertine furniture available from vintage and secondhand sellers at the moment – check out Curated Spaces, en gold or Just Adele.
Stone + Australian Limestone Furniture pieces carved out of stone blocks by the likes of Den Holm, Lucas Wearne and Future Collective hold a ‘refined prehistoric’ aesthetic that is bursting with creativity – and no two pieces are exactly the same. They bear the marks made by human hands, not cookie-cutter off a factory line.
For smaller art pieces with a similar finish, check out Jessica Tremp and Jan Vogelpoel.

Inexpensive stone tiles achieve a similar aesthetic to a slab of stone or marble – at a fraction of the cost! Seen here in The Dairy by Andrea Moore. Photo – Eve Wilson. Styling – Andrea Moore.

TEXTURED TILES
Tiles with a tactile finish and imperfect edges celebrate hand craftsmanship. A Zellige tile that is handmade by artisans in Morocco has a totally unique surface – the clay is kneaded with water, moulded by hand, dried naturally and fired in a kiln. A factory simply can’t imitate the character of thesse handmade tiles – when installed over bathroom walls or for a kitchen splashback; they come to life.
Check out Tiles of Ezra from interior designer Georgia Ezra who specialises in authentic handmade tiles from Morocco, Vietnam and Mexico – and has showcased them to spectacular effect in her own Melbourne home!
We have also seen the return of terracotta tiles in recent years, they really are so timeless. Terracotta tiles that have a raw, matt finish that layers beautifully with other natural materials – also consider exposed brick for internal flooring, it’s definitely making a comeback, particularly in warmer parts of the continent.
Another option to consider is rough-hewn stone tiles, which achieve a similar aesthetic to a slab of stone or marble – at a fraction of the cost.

About
Full Name: Kara Marie Brookes

Romantic Orientation: Heteromantic
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Nationality: American
Ethnicity: Irish, English, and German
Living Conditions: Kara lives mostly in the Rebel base in Wayland Hills, but she’s also taken over the rent agreement of Tanner’s apartment in the same district since he left. She primarily stays in the Rebel base, but she will spend some nights in the apartment when she needs some time to herself.
Background
Birth Place: San Francisco, CA
Hometown: San Francisco, CA
Social Class: Middle Class (probably joining Upper Class soon)
Education Level: High school dropout (working to get her GED)
Sibling(s): Tanner Brookes (brother), and Zed Avery (half-brother)
Birth Order: Zed, Tanner, Kara

Arrests?: At least three, if C.A.R.M.A counts
Prison Time?: Imprisoned in C.A.R.M.A for a few weeks each time of “arrest”
Occupation and Income
Primary Source of Income: Worldwide Warzone Company
Secondary Source of Income: Rebel Army beneficiaries
Content with Their Job (of Lack Thereof)?: Kara right now feels a little overwhelmed being one of the heirs of Warzone, and currently the only one of her siblings in charge of it. She has barely any idea what she’s doing or how to run a high end weapons company, and she’s worried about C.A.R.M.A making a move against it with her Rebel Nova status. Eventually, once she’s gotten a handle on things and learns the ins and outs of the business, she’ll realize she enjoys it.
Spending Habits: She only spends money for necessities and rarely ever treats herself. The money she’s been spending up until now has been given to the Rebels through private beneficiaries supporting their cause, so she uses their money to buy necessary supplies and other items for the base. The money she earns from Warzone is her own personal spending money for apartment rent, clothing, and food.

Skin Tone: Light
Tattoos: She has a few small tattoos. Her first tattoo is a small cross on her right wrist. Her next one is a small 3 on the inside of her right wrist, which she got recently after she became the Third Nova of the Rebel Army. She has the Roman numerals LXXVI (76) on her left side. She also has two small anchor tattoos on each of her ankles. She got these shortly after she joined the Rebel Army, as symbols to keep herself grounded when she was training to gain control of her powers.
Piercings: Two lobe piercings in each ear, and a cartilage in her left.
Marks/Scars: She has a few faded scars from various fights from her time as a Rebel
Notable Features: Her smile
Clothing Style: Kara’s style of dress is always comfortable and casual. She likes to feel comfy in skinny jeans/ripped skinny jeans; Sperry’s, Vans, Converse, UGGs; crop tops, t-shirts, or tank tops with light sweaters or cardigans. Sometimes she’ll add a scarf or beanie as an accessory. She’ll occasionally dress it up with a nicer top or sweater with nicer flats or boots of varying lengths. While she dresses in a more casual fashion, she does have a good eye for fashion in general and wishes she could afford top trends for herself to wear on a daily basis.
Jewelry: She almost always wears a bracelet that Connor bought her one year for Christmas. She also has a favorite necklace and earrings (also from Connor) that she wears.
Allergies: None that she’s aware of
Body Temperature: Normal, although she typically runs slightly colder than normal. When she gets angry, her temperature is slightly hotter than normal.
Diet: To keep fit and healthy, Kara eats a balanced diet of protein, fruits, vegetables, and tries to limit her carbs (although it’s so hard because she loves pasta). She eats in moderation, however, when she’s stressed or upset, she tends to overeat whatever she wants.
Psychology
Mental Conditions/Disorders: None that she’s aware of
Sociability: Extrovert
Emotional Stability: Kara is typically very calm, albeit short-tempered. However, she has a tendency to compartmentalize her stress and negative emotions until they can’t stay buried deep down any more, and she just “explodes” at any moment.

Phobia(s): Rats/mice
Addiction(s): None
Drug Use: Rarely
Alcohol Use: Quite frequently, especially for coping with moments of anger, upset, and stress
Prone to Violence?: Not unless someone pisses her off enough or provokes her into it
Mannerisms
Speech Style: Kara speaks at a normal pace, often with a relaxed drawl in her tone. She speaks more rapidly when she’s excited, stressed, upset, or angry.
Accent: Californian
Hobbies: Fashion, photography, reading
Positive Traits: Loyal, strong-willed, protective
Negative Traits: Short-tempered, stubborn, impulsive
General Outlook: Realistic, but she tries to be optimistic. Sometimes her pessimism wins over.
Do They Curse Often?: Yes, quite casually, although her expletives increase with her levels of frustration / anger / stress

6 Do’s & Don’ts For Your Wedding-Eve
The night before your wedding feels like that moment when your roller coaster car reaches the top of the hill and you’re just waiting there with thrill, excitement, and a dash of anxiety. The most important thing you can do for yourself on the eve of your wedding is take care of your body physically, mentally and emotionally. Follow these do’s and don’ts and you’ll be ready for the BIG DAY!
Jose Villa
DO Follow Your Skin Routine One of the worst feelings is waking up in the morning with greasy and puffy skin after you fell asleep with your makeup on. Be consistent with your nightly beauty routine and refresh your skin before bed. Remove all makeup, cleanse your skin, exfoliate, and moisturize. Your skin will thank you the next morning when you wake up with that fresh bridal glow.
DO Go To Bed Early The quickest way to wake up cranky and with dark circles around your eyes is to stay up too late. Beauty sleep is a real thing, folks! Of course you want to mingle with family and friends as late as possible, but the more important thing is to be refreshed for the big day. Set a time that you plan to go to bed, turn your lights off, relax and do some deep breathing exercises. You will wake up refreshed and present as you interact with all your loved ones the next day.
DO Write Yourself a Note This is the one time in your life that you will be a bride. The sweet and exciting bridal jitters you experience the night before the big day cannot be matched. Write a note to your soon to be husband, or to yourself to read in the future. Years down the road you will be able to look back on those sweet memories and remember what it felt like to be a bride the night before her wedding. It is such a special time that it should be documented.
Melissa Lambert Photography
DON’T Drink a Lot of Alcohol While a couple drinks at the rehearsal dinner are perfectly fine, you don’t want to overdo it the night before the biggest day of your life. Unfortunately, I’ve heard of many brides drinking so much at the rehearsal dinner that they are hung over on their wedding day. Ugh, sounds terrible, doesn’t it! Celebrate and enjoy your rehearsal dinner but remember that that doesn’t require you to get trashed. Avoiding that third drink will most likely keep you from being dehydrated and bloated the next day.
Jose Villa Photography
DON’T Start to Stress about Wedding Details I fell fast asleep the night before my wedding, and I credit that to the fact that I didn’t allow myself to stress about the next day. I could have lied awake and worried that the photographer would get lost on her long drive across the state, it could be rainy, or the groom could forget his shirt (and he did) BUT I did not allow myself to think of those details. I just relaxed and focused on getting by beauty rest. By the time I woke up, it was the wedding day and I didn’t even feel the need to stress because I was just so excited.
DON’T Over-eat Wedding celebrations are often paired with delicious food but tread carefully at the rehearsal dinner. If you overeat you may feel bloated, uncomfortable, or sick the next day. Stress eating can accidentally happen so if you’re worried about it, ask a bridesmaid or friend to keep you in check so that you’re being healthy. Of course, you don’t want to starve, but pace yourself and give your body the nutrients it needs for the days ahead.
Nancy Ray Photography
There is nothing more exciting than being a bride the night before her wedding. It’s so special being surrounded by all your loved ones and thinking about marrying your best friend the next day. With so many emotions and thoughts, it’s important that a bride feels physically, mentally, and emotionally ready for the wedding day…after all, you are the bride!
