Married Buddie would have silly fights and have Buck sleep on the couch but Eddie quickly drags him back to bed with the excuse that Buck’s snoring would keep the neighborhood up but really he just can't sleep without his husband next to him, even if he's mad at him

Inspiration Saturday 🖤
Tagged by @daffi-990 for today and @thekristen999 @loveyouanyway @wildlife4life for Friday (tagging you back if you haven’t already for today)
I’m in my post publishing do what I want era. So have a new little something inspired by a devastating cocktail of T Swift and TSoA 😘
“I’m with Patroclus,” Eddie says, interrupting Buck’s meandering thoughts. “No matter what happens, I would know it was you.”
Buck sets his book down and reaches for Eddie’s hand, threading their fingers together. “Oh, yeah? What if I like, get splashed by acid and become horribly disfigured?”
“Is that going to be your villain origin story?”
“Maybe.” Buck shrugs playfully.
“Even then,” Eddie insists, kissing their linked hands. “We’ve been through too much shit for me to not know you.”
“It would be the same for me, too, Eds. I’d recognize you anywhere. In any condition, in any universe.”
“You better. I’ll haunt you for eternity.”
Buck pinches Eddie’s side. “Thought you didn’t believe in that stuff.”
“For you, mi amor, I’ll make an exception. I, Eddie Diaz, do hereby promise to haunt one Evan Buckley for eternity should he fail to recognize me anywhere, in any condition, in any universe.” He pulls Buck down for a kiss, managing as best they can with the awkward angle. “Deal?”
Buck rolls his eyes fondly and brushes their lips together again. “Deal.”
***
“Buck?”
He startles awake at the sound of Bobby’s voice, wincing at the crick in his neck. When did he fall asleep?
“How long have you been here, kid?”
“I, uh, haven’t been home yet,” Buck answers sheepishly. He scrubs a hand through his hair, then down his cheek and over the bristly stubble starting to fill in already.
Bobby sends him a knowing look instead of giving him a lecture on how he promised to get some proper rest.
“How is he?” Bobby asks softly, his gaze drifting towards the hospital bed.

____________
I'm excited to finish writing Chapter 22 because there's less than one day remaining until Buck and Eddie get married.
For anyone who hasn't read Chapter 21, here's a brief overview: Buck and Eddie finalized everything before the three of them left L.A. on Friday, December 15th. On December 10th, Buck agreed to meet with his biological father and Eddie and Chris will be present with him when they meet at 12 noon at the restaurant Edward selected. Buck still doesn't know Chris is going to ask him to adopt him on Christmas morning and neither Buck nor Chris knows anything about the gift Eddie bought to commemorate the special moment. Also, Eddie's planning several big surprises for Buck on their wedding day and for a week later when they arrive in London but Eddie doesn't know Chris and Buck are planning a surprise for him too. The three of them are speaking Italian more frequently and finally, Maddie, the 118 and Athena are still planning to throw them an engagement party because they don't know they're getting married which means New Year's Eve at Maddie's and Chimney's is going to be interesting 😉.
Buck and Eddie will tie the knot before Christmas 2023 but they are NOT getting married in the U.S. and they won't have a wedding ceremony until May 2024. They've revealed their relationship, their engagement and the fact that they're going to Europe to their found family during the 118's Thanksgiving dinner (Chapter 17), to Eddie's parents, his sisters, his abuela and Tia Pepa (Chapter 18) and Buck told the Buckley parents he's getting married and that he has a son (Chapter 19). Only three people know they're getting married and they are Chris, Carla and Malone. They told Carla and Malone (Chapter 19) because they asked them to be their witnesses at the Italian Consulate and they told Chris (Chapter 20) that evening after they got the "Atto Notorio" (Declaration) signed but no one else knows. In Chapter 21, Buck, Eddie and Chris arrived in Rome, Italy and they're preparing for the big day.
___________
Here's another romantically fluffy snippet from Chapter 22 of Eddie and Buck having a conversation while they're in their villa in Roma, Italia.
___________
It’s 2:23PM and Eddie’s standing in the living area facing the hallway while Chris is sitting on the couch waiting for him to give him the signal.
When the door to Buck’s and Eddie’s bedroom opens, Eddie watches as he exits, then he turns and looks at Chris.  He nods his head and says, “Hit it!”
“Ok dad.”  He replies and he taps the screen on Eddie’s phone to select the song Eddie chose for this occasion.  He selected it two months ago after they got engaged and he’s been waiting to play a specific portion of it since the night they both said, “Yes, I’ll marry you” after their simultaneous proposals.
The song is at the beginning of his “He’s My Everything” playlist but he didn’t tell Buck about it while they were on the airplane discussing their playlists because this is one of the many surprises he has planned just for him.
After Chris taps play, the song starts and the melody plays through the villa’s Bluetooth sound system’s speakers.
As Buck continues to walk and get closer to the living area, he hears a group of melodic male voices repeatedly singing the same phrase over and over again.
“Let’s get married!”
“Let’s get married!”
“Let’s get married!”
He briefly wonders which group it is because he thinks he’s heard one of their other songs but he doesn’t have long to contemplate it.  When he looks up, he sees his fiancé, the love of his life, Eddie Diaz standing there with a big smile on his face.
Eddie’s hand is extended and waiting for him to put his hand in his and the sight of it causes Buck to remember the dream he had about this day back in September when he was still living at the loft.
After he takes the last steps forward, he puts his hand in Eddie’s then Eddie wraps his free arm around his waist and pulls him close.  Buck wraps his free arm around Eddie’s waist and with the group still singing “Let’s get married”, Eddie starts saying everything he said to him in his dream and the tears he thought he successfully blinked back while he was still in the bedroom, start streaming down his face.
Eddie whispers into his ear, “Buck?”
“Buck… my love.”
“Babe, I love you so much.”
“Evan, you’re my one true love.”
“Don’t you know… you’re the love of my life?”
Buck can’t speak because he's so emotional but he manages to nod his head while it rests on Eddie’s shoulder to let him know he hears him but the next statement that escapes Eddie’s lips is the one that makes him weep.
“I’ve been waiting for you.”
Buck hiccups on a sob and Eddie’s right there to hold onto him.  His knees buckle but Eddie holds him up just like always because he has his back and his heart.  After a few seconds, he composes himself and whispers, “I know and I’m sorry it took me so long to get here”.
He feels Eddie’s lips softly brush against his ear when he admits, “It’s ok because I’ll wait a lifetime for you.  We’re here now and it’s time for us to start our forever.”
“Our for—ever!”  Buck says as he exhales a shuddering breath.
“Evan, ti amo!”  [“Evan, I love you!”]
“Ti amo cosi tan—to!”   [“I love you too so much!”]
Then Eddie pulls back, meets those ocean blue eyes he loves so much and without releasing their joined hands, he takes his free hand and uses his thumb to wipe away Buck’s tears.  Then he emphatically says, “Amore mio, sposiamoci!”  [“My love, let’s get married!”]
Buck hiccups on the sob that’s caught in the back of his throat but he manages to respond, “Pic—cola, sì, sposiamoci!” [“Babe… yes, let’s get married!”]  And that’s all it takes for him to lean in and passionately kiss his fiancé.
What’s going to happen next? 🙃
Are they going to stop kissing in enough time to make it to their ceremony by 3:00PM? 🤷🏽‍♀️
___________
This is an EPIC LOVE STORY!

Chapter Summaries
Chapter 1 - Eddie makes a new friend while Buck receives devastating news regarding the sperm donation he made for Connor and Kameron.
Chapter 2 - Buck does a lot of research to learn more about the abnormalities found in his red blood cells and Eddie starts a new therapy journey that’s all about him and not the traumas he’s experienced.
Chapter 3 - After more than a month, Buck and Eddie finally spend time together outside of work but it doesn’t end well and they part with a lot of uncertainty regarding their places in each other’s lives.
Chapter 4 - Eddie has a few realizations about his life which causes him to consider moving back to El Paso, TX while Buck continues to be reminded of his past which causes him to take an impromptu road trip across America.
Chapter 5 - Both Buck and Eddie have difficult conversations with their parents and Buck finally learns the truth behind the reason why his mother despised him while Eddie finally tells his mother about the way she tries to control him.
Chapter 6 - More than two weeks after Buck pushed Eddie away after suggesting they needed a break; Eddie decides to try again. Eddie’s there for Buck when he’s at his worst just like Buck was there for him when he was at his worst and he won’t let Buck give up.
Chapter 7 - After Buck’s mental breakdown, Eddie has his back the same way Buck had his when he had his own breakdown more than a year ago.  They share several vulnerable and emotionally intimate moments with one another and they begin to realize their small, sweet and caring gestures matter just as much if not more than any grand gesture ever could because these are the foundations of a long-lasting love relationship.
Chapter 8 - Buck, Eddie and Chris all have their own therapists and during their sessions, they reflect on their pasts while they’re in the present so they can prepare for their future together as a family.
Chapter 9 - Buck and Eddie are there for each other when Buck has to testify as a witness during the trial.  But by the end of it, they’ll both realize their individual and shared traumas are going to keep resurfacing until they talk about them, deal with the fact that they’re in love with one another and face the fact that they can’t live without each other.
Chapter 10 - As Buck and Eddie finally begin to confront their past traumas, they realize how much they need each other to fill in the gaps of their memories.  Additionally, the universe screams at them for what appears to be the one hundredth time so Buck can realize he doesn’t have to ‘find it’ because he already ‘made it’ and Eddie’s reminded tomorrow isn’t promised and he doesn’t have to die alone if he doesn’t want to.
Chapter 11 - A “virga” or dry thunderstorm is in the forecast but once the rain starts, the thunderstorm happening outside won’t be able to match the storm brewing inside between Buck and Eddie.  It’s the universe’s final scream and when the tumultuous winds begin to blow, they’ll have one last chance to hold onto everything they’ve built over the last six years or they’ll lose it all forever.
Chapter 12 - Buck and Eddie have always shared a deep physical attraction and an emotional intimacy that’s unmatched but now that they’re in a relationship, they’re learning how to navigate the romantic intimacy they’ve been waiting for six years to explore. The love they have for each other is a once in a lifetime, soulmate, love of their lives type of love that transcends space and time.
Chapter 13 - While navigating the newness of their romantic relationship, Buck and Eddie take advantage of every moment they spend together. As their individual lives, people from their pasts, time constraints and the possibility of losing each other again make attempts to interrupt and interfere with their journey to forever, they love, care for, support and hold onto each other even tighter to withstand it all.
Chapter 14 - Buck and Eddie can see the lights at the end of the tunnels regarding the results of Buck’s Cancer Screening along with everything else they’re dealing with. But are the lights they see exits to the tunnels or are they headlights on different runaway trains that are speeding towards them in an effort to interrupt their forever?
Chapter 15 - Buck and Eddie have known they were exactly who the other one wanted in a partner since they met six years ago when they agreed to have each other’s backs. They’re in a romantic relationship, they’re both preparing to ask the other one to spend forever with them and by the end of the seventh week into their relationship, together they will plan their most important and greatest adventure for their future.
Chapter 16 - As Buck and Eddie begin to prepare for their marriage ceremony that will take place in Rome, Italy in December 2023, they start planning their first international adventure as a romantic couple. Even though Chris is still the only person they’ve told about their relationship, several people who know them have already witnessed the love they share and as the days continue, others will witness it too.
Chapter 17 - As Buck and Eddie get closer to departing Los Angeles for their international adventure, a moment in time will remind them; life is fragile, tomorrow isn’t promised and every second of everyday should be cherished because everything can change in an instant. The result of that realization will cause them to hold onto each other even more.
Chapter 18 - As Buck, Eddie and Chris prepare for family gatherings before and during the Thanksgiving holiday, the “Santa Ana Winds” start to blow and all sorts of expected and unexpected familial drama ensues.
Chapter 19 - As Buck and Eddie get closer to their wedding day, the universe begins to align everything so that some of their parent and children's relationships are strengthened while others come to an abrupt end.
Chapter 20 - With only 14 days remaining until Buck, Eddie and Chris depart Los Angeles, CA traveling to Rome, Italy, for their first family adventure, an early morning conversation about “tying up loose ends” helps Buck and Eddie realize there are still several things left unfinished on their ‘To Do’ lists. The question is will there be enough time to complete all of them?
Chapter 21 - Buck, Eddie and Chris are finalizing their ‘To Do’ Lists, double checking their itineraries and packing their suitcases in preparation for their trip to Europe so they can board their flight that departs Los Angeles, CA on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 3:25PM.

Buck: Why is there so much blood on the ground??
Eddie: *Scrubbing the floor* I inadvertently performed an emergency appendectomy earlier today.
Buck: Eddie, what the fuck does that even mean?
Eddie: It means I accidentally stabbed someone, Buck. Please, get the bleach.

hi babe! hope you're having a wonderful day/night! 💗 can i request doing something silly to cheer them up from the prompt list? if you haven't done it yet. thank you 💗
Hi Babes!! Special Delivery just for you ❤️ I hope you are also having a wonderful day/night xx
"Eddie. Eddieeee." Buck whines and Eddie keeps glaring resolutely at the wall.
"Baby." Buck sings and pokes him in the cheek. For a brief moment he considers upping the pettiness and snapping round to bite the end of Buck's finger.
"Go away, Buck. I'm mad at you."
"No you're not," Buck chuckles, "you're just sulking because I ate the last piece of pizza."
Eddie swings his head around to glare daggers directly into Buck's eyes. "It was my piece! You already had all of your half of the pizza."
"You said you were full!" Buck states indignantly.
"You still could have asked first." Eddie stares down at his hands, twisting his ring around his finger absently.
Suddenly he can feel Buck's breath across the bridge of his nose. "Eds, look at me, please."
Eddie risks a glance up and finds Buck less than an inch in front of his face–their noses almost brushing–and Buck has his tongue poking out one side of his mouth and his eyes are crossed in one of the most absurd expressions Eddie has ever seen cross his husband's face–and Buck makes a lot of weird faces. He barely suppresses the grin tugging at the corners of his mouth and then Buck's face shifts again. He blows his cheeks out like a puffer fish and starts to repetitively roll his eyes. A snigger escapes Eddie and Buck's face splits into a grin.
Eddie reaches up and squishes Buck's cheeks together until he is pouting like a fish again. "You're so dumb. You're lucky I love you."
Buck opens his mouth like he's about to say something but Eddie kisses him instead.
"I love you, too. I'm sorry." Buck says when Eddie pulls away. Then he sits back straight again. "Whooh, I'm kinda dizzy."
"Idiot." They're both still smiling as Eddie kisses him again.
Send me a prompt and I'll write a mini ficlet 💌

I just finished reading I feel you forget me like I used to feel you breathe by @turningthepaiges and holy hell is it a good one!!! I’m not very good at leaving reviews or recommending fics - my brain moves to fast but I’m trying to be better and I think this one has changed me on a visceral level!!
Seriously go read it if you haven’t and show it some love because married buddie with amnesia Eddie is something I didn’t know I needed until I read it!! It’s really really well written and the essence of who Buck and Eddie are as characters is so well realised that I cannot fully describe how well they’ve been done. It’s full of the best kind of angst - it made me cry a few times both happy and sad tears! Plus Olivia and Jude (and Mrya) are adorable and I wish they were real!
Go read it everyone!!!

"It can't be this simple, can it?"
I’ve had this prompt in my ask box for ages (so sorry anon). I just haven’t been able to write anything for a long time but hopefully this is the start of getting back to it.
Eddie exits the bathroom to find his husband standing near the floor to ceiling window of their hotel suite, sun-kissed skin painted in love-pink honeymoon marks and the pearl glow of moonlight. The desire to trace the swell of Buck’s shoulder blades, the curve of his ribs, every inch of him again and again has Eddie padding barefoot across the cold tile floor and leaning into the heat of Buck’s back.
Buck flinches at the chill of Eddie’s wedding ring against his bare lower belly, a sensation not even four hours old as he hugs him from behind. His large hands come up to cover Eddie’s, a wide expanse of trembling heat that has Eddie finding his husband’s distorted reflection in the window glass.
“Baby,” he says, voice muffled from where he kisses comfort to a pattern of moles on Buck’s shoulder that Eddie could draw with his eyes closed. Buck turns in his hold, folding into Eddie in a way that allows him to hide damp eyelashes against his neck, tickling the older man’s skin with every blink. “What’s wrong?”
Eddie chases the cadence of the ocean waves outside their balcony along his husband’s sides in the silence that lingers, hands sliding up with each swell of the tide before dropping back down as the sound recedes. Buck breathes steady and deep, peppering kisses along Eddie’s collarbone before pulling away enough to meet his husband’s gaze in the glow of lamp light staining the luminance of the moon stretching across their hotel room floor.
“It can’t be this simple, can it?” Buck asks, squeezing Eddie’s hands in his own.
“What can’t be simple?”
“This. Us,” Buck shrugs, stepping forward once more to hug Eddie tight. “Happiness.”
“Babe-“
“I spent my whole life thinking that happiness was something I had to fight for, to…earn, I guess. And then…”
The rest of the sentence gets stuck against Eddie’s shoulder until he gives it a little nudge, kissing the wayward curls at the crown of Buck’s head as he does so. “Then what?”
“Then you just… gave it to me,” Buck whispers, words soft like white sand and Eddie thinks they’ll stick to him just the same. “I don’t understand why it’s this easy.”
“Is it?” Eddie asks, pads of his fingers walking up the ridges of Buck’s spine. “The months, the years, it took for us to even admit our feelings for each other, those were easy? Working through all of my baggage, that was simple?”
“It feels like it,” Buck nods against his shoulder where his head still lays. Eddie reaches up to keep it there.
“My parents’ opinions and your parents…in general,” Eddie huffs, feels Buck’s laugh warm him from the inside out. “That’s nothing, right?”
“When you’re my everything, they’re definitely nothing.”
Eddie pinches Buck’s side, “Sap.”
“For you, always.”
Eddie nudges Buck until they’re looking at one another again, grin confined to the corner of his mouth at the way Buck’s eyes still water. “That’s just it. Simple or not, for you, always, I’m going to do everything I can to make you happy. To make us happy.”

Eddie Diaz vs the cat straight out of hell
Buddie, 2923 words, rated T for language and hints to sex
Cat owners Buddie, married Buddie, crack/fluff
Buck convinces Eddie to take home a cat they rescued on a call. Buck and Christopher immediately fall in love with her, but Eddie is convinced she is a demon from hell..
(Or: 5 times Eddie hates the cat Buck brought home + one time she's not really that bad.)
--
Eddie narrows his eyes at Buck, “You don’t want me to go inside.”
He goes off his checklist. Valentine’s day is over, father’s day is in June, Eddie’s birthday is September… there’s no reason to hide something good inside.
Which means…
Eddie opens the door. Buck protests weakly but knows he can’t stop him. Eddie stops in his tracks as he takes in their living room.
Or, rather, what’s left of it.
“What. The. Hell.”
“Swear jar!” Christopher pipes up. Eddie turns around to look at him, to see his son is holding a broom. His eyes widen and he quickly drops it, “this is my cue to… go.”

author: HungryHungryHippo | rated: t | words: 4.5k | ao3 link
summary:
Okay. Just a little turn aaaand- yes. Alright, only one more to go. You got this, Buckley.
Buck watches with fascination as the sewing machine’s needle dips and resurfaces, piercing the shimmery blue fabric. A wave of satisfaction and pride washes over him when the final stitches meet seamlessly with the beginning ones. For only putting in minimal effort during Family & Consumer Sciences, he’s impressed with his handiwork. He eases his foot off the pedal and snips the thread, freeing his creation so he can try it on.
Ever since Jee watched Sleeping Beauty and Shrek for the first time she’s become obsessed with all things fantasy. Much to Maddie, Chim and Eddie’s amusement, Buck couldn’t help himself from buying her a sparkly dress (or three), as well as a tiara fit for pint-sized royalty.
Of course, once she had her clothes to play dress up, she needed a fearsome beast to battle. And, well, how was Buck supposed to be an effective dragon without his own wings?

For @this-is-bwr: Happiest of Birthdays to you!
all in the Jee-tails | Rated: T | 4531 words
“There is no magic in magic, it’s all in the details.”- Walt Disney
He had been a little conflicted at first, between indulging his niece’s interest and fear of feeding into gender norms. His concerns turned out to be unnecessary when Maddie texted him a picture later that week, simply captioned She didn’t want to choose, so I told her she could be both. Jee wore the yellow dress, covered in flowers and iridescent ribbon, and her hot pink high top sneakers, holding up the sword and shield Buck bought at the renaissance fair last year. Maddie or Chim must have told her to make her ‘battle’ face. Her barely-there eyebrows were scrunched and her mouth was set in a grimace, showing off two perfect rows of baby teeth. She was absurdly adorable.
Of course, once she had her clothes to play dress up, she needed a fearsome beast to battle. And, well, how was Buck supposed to be an effective dragon without his own wings?
“Looks good, baby.” Buck startles at his husband’s voice, but quickly melts at the praise, smiling up from his seat at the dining room table. Eddie rests a hand on Buck’s shoulder and presses a kiss to his temple. “You’ll be the sexiest dragon at the play date.”
Buck snorts. “I haven’t even tried them on yet.”
“Better get to it then.” Eddie playfully swats his ass when he stands. “But I don’t have to see you in them to know I’m right.”
“Aww, thanks, babe.”
Buck slips his new wings on, stretching his arms to full width to make absolutely sure he got the wingspan measurements correct. He curls his wrists and swings his arms to test the elastic bands he hand-stitched on, pleased when the secure hold doesn’t budge.
“Well?”
Eddie hooks a finger in each shoulder strap, tugging Buck closer. “I think you’re gonna be Jee’s favorite uncle.”
Buck hums in response, raising one eyebrow. “At least until she knows you’re making those cinnamon muffins she loves. Then I’ll be old news.”
“Well then.” Eddie kisses Buck’s forehead. “If for some reason that happens-” another kiss to his chin, “I’ll be sure-” Eddie’s tongue traces the line of his jaw, “to show you how much I appreciate it.” A low whimper escapes when Eddie nips at Buck’s ear.
“Didn’t realize you had a monster kink, Eds.”
“Aren’t you the one always saying it’s never too late to learn new things about yourself?” Eddie captures his lips before he can answer, tracing his fingers down Buck’s sides to toy with the hem of his tee.
Even after two years of marriage, plus one year of dating, Buck still never tires of discovering new information about his husband. If he realized this was a thing Eddie might be into, he would have done it a long time ago. Athena let Buck borrow the sewing machine for this project. Maybe he’ll have to invest in one of their own.
“Are you two being gross again?”
They jump apart like middle schoolers at the sound of Chris’s voice, both of them blushing and trying to pretend they weren’t on the verge of making out in the family room.
“Sorry,” Buck mumbles at the same time Eddie says, “No.”
Their son narrows his eyes at them, folding his arms across his chest. Buck can’t help noticing how much he looks like Eddie when he does that. Eventually, Chris rolls his eyes and asks what Buck is wearing.
“Dragon wings,” Buck states with a wide grin. “For when Jee wants to play princess knight.”
“No way! That’s so cool!” Chris instantly switches from disgusted to impressed. He flicks his gaze to the table, heaped with fabric scraps and bits of thread and a tomato-shaped pincushion. “Wait. Did you make these?”
“Uh, yeah. I did, actually. I tried to find some online, but didn’t really love the options.”
Chris runs his fingers along the edges, rubbing the material between his thumb and pointer.
“If you want I could make you some of your own,” Buck offers.
“Nope,” Chris shakes his head. “You’re Jee’s favorite dragon. She has the most fun when you do it. I want to be an all powerful wizard.”
“Oh yeah?” Eddie reaches over to tousle his curls. “What are you going to do with all this mysterious power?”
“First, I would get rid of homework. Then I would cast a spell to stop Buck’s snoring.”
“I can’t say I’d argue with that,” Eddie agrees with a chuckle.
Buck shoots them both a playful half-hearted glare, even as Eddie plants a smacking kiss on his cheek. “It’s okay, sweetheart. I love you just the way you are. Even if you could wake the dead with your snores.”
“Uh huh. I’ll remember that the next time you toss and turn and steal all the covers.”
Buck turns his attention back to Christopher and his costume request. It seems simple enough. A wizard robe can’t be any more complicated than what he’s just finished. Between a few basic instructions from Athena, several hours of YouTube videos and practice stitches, it hadn’t been too difficult. And she didn’t say he needed to return the machine by a specific date.
“If you’re a dragon,” Eddie says, “and Chris is a wizard, that means I’m the brave, handsome knight, right?”
“It’s cute that you think that, Eds. Jee is the princess and the knight. But, I mean, obviously, that leaves you with an extremely important job.”
Eddie raises his eyebrows as if to say ‘out with it’.
“You get to be the damsel in distress, locked away in a tall tower.” Buck swipes his phone and measuring tape from the table, leading Chris away. “Okay, buddy. Let’s go figure out what we need to make you into a wizard.”
They make it to the hallway before Buck’s words finally sink in and Eddie calls out behind them.
“Wait. What? Absolutely not!” ******
Putting together Christopher’s ensemble does turn out to be relatively straightforward. If Buck is being honest, he’s a little envious there’s nothing he needs for himself from the fabric Chris chose. The satiny midnight blue – patterned with planets, constellations and starbursts – makes an elegant, flowy design from the tip of the hood to the billowy sleeves and near-floor length hemline.
As an extra accessory, Carla surprised him with a wand she made herself from a twig and hot glue, wound with navy and gold ribbon.
“And,” Carla says to Chris, “if you would be so kind as to give this to Miss Jee.” She hands him a second wand. This one is painted sage green, and has a glittery gold star at the top and fluttering ribbons in varying shades of pink. “Every princess needs a little something extra. Even if they already have a battle sword.”
“Thank you, Carla! She’s going to love it.”
She smiles warmly at Chris, pleased with his enthusiasm about the gifts. “Make sure your dads get plenty of pictures.”
Buck doesn’t miss the way she gives him and Eddie a pointed look.
“We will,” they promise in unison.
“Alright, boys. I have to be on my way.” She gathers Chris in a tight hug before they walk her to the door and they say their goodbyes. “Have fun today!”
Maddie and Chim are bringing Jee to the house for the afternoon while they meet with a contractor about expanding their patio. Buck didn’t give his sister much detail about their plans, but asked her to make sure his niece has all of her royal gear.
While Chris and Eddie are distracted, Buck tiptoes to the kitchen, wanting to do a final check that everything is accounted for. He blindly feels around the top of the fridge, confusion building as his fingers touch nothing but air and cool metal.
“What the-” Buck mutters to himself. “I could’ve sworn I left it–”
“Looking for this?”
He turns to see his husband wearing a shit-eating grin and holding Buck’s clipboard and checklist.
“Gotta step up your game, Buckley. This one was way too easy to find,” Eddie teases.
When it comes to clipboards, Buck is well aware of his reputation. No sooner did he move into the Diaz household, both father and son made a game of hiding them. Buck tried to change the rules by stashing them in any nook or cranny he could find. That plan backfired when Eddie and Chris quickly caught on and started seeking out his locations like a treasure hunt.
“Maybe if you just admitted how much you love seeing me with one, we wouldn’t have to play these games at all.”
Eddie’s gaze darkens as he saunters across the floor. With everything they have to do, plus Chris being somewhere close by, Buck would really like to say his dick doesn’t take notice, but that would be an outrageous lie.
“I never said I didn’t enjoy you that way,” Eddie murmurs, breath ghosting against the shell of Buck’s ear. “I just love it more when you’re wearing the whole Fire Marshal Buckley get up and begging for me to finally fuck you.”
“Eds.” Buck exhales a shaky breath, attempting to regain some sense of composure before his sister shows up. Or Chris walks in. Again.
“Until later,” Eddie gives him a chaste kiss, winking as he presses the clipboard into Buck’s hands. “I’ll give you a minute to collect yourself.”
Asshole.
“Yeah, I’ll be out in a sec,” he grumbles, adjusting his jeans and staring a hole into the checklist, tapping each item while he does a mental review.
Apple slices? Check. Capri sun? Check. Sprinkles and frosting for decorating cookies later? Check and check.
Unfortunately, the forecast has been calling for rain. He had hoped for a day at the park, but that seems unlikely. Which is why Buck has backup plans. He continues his walkthrough in the living room, checking off the stack of sheets and tablecloths to construct a perfect movie watching fort. There’s also a selection of pillows and blankets in case movie time turns to nap time. He’s just finishing up when he hears the familiar knocking.
“I’ll get it!” Chris scrambles to answer the door. The Buckley-Han clan is waiting on the other side, with Jee wriggling in Maddie’s arms the moment she sees Chris. “Hi Jee!”
Maddie sets her down and she immediately toddles to her cousin, throwing her tiny arms around his leg. “Chwispher!”
“Hey, sis. Chim.” Buck hugs Maddie, then reaches down to pick up Jee. He lifts her over his head, delighted by her squeals of laughter. “And how is my favorite girl doing?”
“I guess we’re chopped liver, huh?” He hears Chim tell Eddie.
“Oh, there’s no guessing. We definitely are,” Eddie answers. “He’s a big puddle of mush when she’s around. Like no one else exists.”
Buck chooses to ignore the commentary in favor of making Jee giggle and smile some more.
“Bag is fully stocked with snacks, spare clothes, and her stuffed shark.” Buck half-listens to his sister while Jee grabs at his hair with her tiny fingers. “As requested, we’ve got the purple and the green princess dress, plus the sword and– are you even listening?”
Eddie politely takes the diaper bag from Maddie. “Snacks, extra clothes, favorite stuffie. And all the miscellaneous things my husband made you pack. Don’t worry, I’ve got them covered.”
“Thank you.” Maddie kisses Eddie’s cheek then turns to do the same to Jee. “Bye, princess. Daddy and I will see you later. Yes, we will!”
Jee presses her lips to her palm and blows a kiss to her parents. Buck has no doubts he is the luckiest uncle on the face of the planet, if not the entire universe.
Chim says his farewells and urges Maddie back to the car, mumbling about having to finish laundry before their meeting. Which… is kinda strange. Buck hasn’t ever asked, but he’s at least 87% certain that ‘laundry’ is code for something he really never wants to think about his sister and brother-in-law doing.
“Okay,” Buck addresses the squirmy little girl in his arms. “It’s just you, me, Chris, and Uncle Eddie. What do you want to do first? We can color or make cookies or… a special surprise.”
Her mouth turns up in a smile as she claps enthusiastically. “Special s’prise.”
“I knew you had good taste, kid. Chris, you know what to do.”
Christopher merely grins and disappears to change into his robes.
Buck lowers Jee to the floor and tells her she’ll need to pick one of her fancy dresses for the surprise. Jee races to the bag, immediately pulling out the green one. Eddie makes silly faces at her, and plays peekaboo, while Buck wrestles the outfit over her wiggly body. As soon as he’s done she reaches into the main pocket for the silvery tiara, haphazardly setting it on her head.
“Sir Edmundo.” Buck deepens his voice, trying not to laugh at how ridiculous he sounds. “Send for the great and powerful wizard at once.”
“As you wish.” Eddie squares his shoulders, standing taller as he walks to the end of the hallway. Jee happily spins in place, swishing her skirt from side to side. “Princess Jee-Yun has arrived and wishes to see Christopher the Wise and Magical.”
Jee pauses her twirling when Chris emerges from his room, as if she’s uncertain what to make of the situation.
“It’s just me,” he stage-whispers as soon as he’s close enough.
She continues watching him while he kneels in front of her.
“Your highness, a gift for you.” Chris reaches into the depths of one sleeve, pulling out the wand Carla made. She takes it from him eagerly, mesmerized by the sparkles and ribbons.
Buck uses the opportunity to slip away so he can put on his wings. Jee reacted well to Chris, so he’s hoping she won’t be scared of him either. They’ve played Princess Jee: Dragon Slayer plenty of times, but she was the only one dressed up for it.
Right now Chris and Eddie are supposed to be telling her about the rumors they’ve heard involving a mysterious new dragon in the kingdom. A very tall, good natured one with shiny blue scales; and an insatiable appetite for cupcakes, juice and small children.
He can faintly make out Eddie’s voice informing Jee that only her and the wizard can capture the beast.
“Shhh. Do you hear that?” Eddie asks, pausing for effect. Buck answers by stomping in place for ten or so steps, then waits for Eddie to start talking again.
“There! I think it’s—”
Buck widens his stance, hunching over and crouching as he steps from their bedroom. He tucks his arms close to his ribs, making eye contact with Jee before he does anything else. Her eyes widen and, for a beat, he’s afraid it’s too much. But then she begins excitedly jumping up and down, pulling on Chris’s sleeves and pointing.
“Dagon! Dagon!”
“Mmmm,” Buck lets out a playful growl. He tilts his head back, dramatically sniffing at the air.  “Do I smell a tasty princess treat?” He sniffs again. “And a magical being?”
Eddie stifles a laugh, covering his mouth with one hand and shaking uncontrollably as Buck advances toward both shrieking children. The wings flutter behind him with each large, awkward step.
He’s nearly reached them when Chris holds out his wand while Jee raises hers and the pink foam shield. She strikes a fierce pose with her wand pointing out, one hot pink shoe in front of the other, an adorable scowl on her face and crown askew on her head.
“Your highness!” Chris clears his throat, flicking his gaze at Eddie then back to Buck. “We must protect the fair maiden!”
Buck nearly loses his balance as he watches Eddie sigh and curse under his breath — probably something in Spanish he hopes the kids won’t understand — stepping up on a dining room chair situated in the corner.
Eddie folds his arms across his broad chest, meekly calling out in a disturbingly high register Buck has most certainly never heard from his husband before. “Help, help! Somebody, er, save me!”
Chris positions himself protectively near Eddie’s “tower” while Jee takes the half-hearted yelps as her cue to attack. She rushes at Buck, circling his legs and passionately shaking her wand. He plays along, twitching and jerking with each flick of her hand as she chases him through the kitchen and dining room.
They pass Eddie and Chris on the return route to the living room. Buck makes a point to double back, pretending to scale the tower until Jee realizes where he is. Chris and Jee corner him like a couple of border collies, casting nonsense spells as Buck gradually crumples to the floor, closing his eyes and letting his head loll to one side.
Jee cheers, hopping up and down, her shoes thumping on the floor. Buck cracks one eye open to surreptitiously witness the celebration. He manages to meet Eddie’s gaze with an equally fond look of his own through the mayhem. Buck only looks away when he feels Jee’s tiny frame shuffling onto him, her knee narrowly missing his stomach.
“Buck. Up. Buck. Up.” She pats his chest with each syllable and grins when he opens both eyes completely, feigning surprise as if he’s just discovered her there.
“Princess Knight Jee, slayer of dragons, ruler of the Buckley-Han-dom. There is one more task to complete. Will you help me?”
“Yes!”
“Excellent! One, two, three, up-we-go.” Buck clutches her tightly while he rolls up to sit, then maneuvers to stand. He shifts her so she’s turned outward, facing Eddie. “Time to rescue our damsel in distress.”
Buck lifts her higher in a move reminiscent of the opening scene to The Lion King, passing her to Eddie.
“There’s my brave little protector.” Eddie thanks her and carefully steps down from the chair. “You and Chris fought a tough battle. What do you say we reward the warriors with a snack?”
The sight of his husband holding Jee — or doing anything with her, really — always manages to crack Buck’s heart open a little more. Eddie has shared stories from Chris’s younger years. Buck knows they didn’t get to experience most of these early moments together. To see Eddie getting something of a second chance with Jee can be the best type of overwhelming at times.
In the kitchen, Eddie straps Jee into her booster seat, entertaining her with ‘Itsy Bitsy Spider’ while Buck rinses and slices enough apples for all of them. Chris retrieves two juices from the fridge for him and Jee, plus string cheese and crackers for himself.
It’s nice to finally sit down with all of them gathered around the table. Jee offers bits of her snack to share, unaware of Buck quietly replenishing her tray every time she does so.
Afterwards, Jee is ready to play again, though more quietly this time. She and Chris color pages from a Princess and the Frog coloring book, while Buck and Eddie move furniture to construct the fort in the living room. As if on cue, the sky darkens and rain plinks against the windows. They add throw pillows, couch cushions and blankets for an extra cozy atmosphere. Assuming Jee’s schedule hasn’t changed, she’ll be dozing off sometime soon.
Once they’re satisfied the fort is stable enough to occupy, Eddie retreats to the kitchen to make popcorn. Buck gathers Jee and Chris to pick what movie they’ll watch. Chris guides his younger cousin towards what he thinks she might enjoy most, steering her away from options that are too mature.
Together they choose Monsters, Inc. in time for Eddie to return with the popcorn divided into two medium-sized bowls. He flips off the main living room light once both kids are securely under the blanketed ceiling. Buck crawls in after them, followed by Eddie. It’s only then, as his wings catch against the entrance, that Buck realizes he’s still wearing them. Their nest is too small to take them off now and he’s too comfortable to leave.
Chris sprawls to one side, laying on his stomach with his chin resting in his palm. Eddie and Buck automatically settle next to each other, joined together from shoulder to ankle as they lean back to lounge against the sofa. Jee makes herself comfortable by climbing on Eddie’s lap. She hugs her shark with one arm and reaches for one of the bowls with the other.
The opening credits play, a cacophony of jazz music, doors opening and slamming shut, and fabricated screams. Jee wiggles along to the beat until it fades and the movie begins. Her snacking is abandoned by the time Sully, the big blue monster, accidentally frees the little girl, Boo. When Sully is sneaking Boo back into the factory, Buck notices the lack of movement beside him.
Jee is snuggled against Eddie’s chest, fast asleep, her shark smushed between them. Her mouth is slightly parted, but not yet drooling on his shirt. He has one arm wrapped loosely around her, his wedding ring glinting like a miniature beacon in the dim lighting. He tips his chin in the direction of a smaller blanket, just out of reach. Buck pulls it closer for him, draping it over Jee.
“Hey,” Eddie says quietly.
The chocolate brown pools of Eddie’s eyes are obscured by the screen’s glare. Even so, Buck still detects a hint of nerves in them.
“Hey, yourself. Whatcha thinking about?”
“Nothing. Just that this is a nice day. With us. And them.” Eddie pauses, briefly glancing between Chris and Jee. “Both of them.”
Buck furrows his brow and cocks his head while he lets the words sink in, turning them over to make sure he’s heard correctly. Is Eddie saying what he thinks he is? It’s not the first time they’ve had Jee at the house. However, it is the first time the topic has come up since right after they got married. “Eds, are you- do you want another kid?”
People that know them best — Hen and Karen, Bobby and Athena, May, Maddie and Chim — stopped asking ages ago if Buck and Eddie would be adding to their family. That is, if they ever asked to begin with. It’s really no one’s business but theirs.
Buck always wanted a big family with lots of kids. Then again, he’s wanted a lot over the years that always wound up paling in comparison to what he received. He adores his life with Eddie and Christopher. Every day he tries to be intentional about showing them both how grateful he is and how much he loves them. If the timing was right, and Eddie wanted to, Buck’s not opposed to the idea. He likes to think he would welcome it.
Eddie half shrugs, looking like he wishes he could take back what he said. “Possibly? I don’t know for sure. I mean I’m open to it, at least. Doesn’t hurt that she’s so fun, and gets along well with Chris.” His nervous searching gaze returns. “And I know you- at least I think you still do. Would you? Want another? Because I think I would. If that’s something you wanted. Or something you—”
Understanding suddenly washes over him, making his gut twist that Eddie even thinks this might be something Buck needs.
“Eds.” Buck cups Eddie’s cheek, sweeping his thumb over the five o’clock shadow. “I only want if we want. I love us. Me and you and Chris. Not a day goes by that I wake up wishing for more. And I’m not saying ‘never’. I just need you to know it’s not some… requirement for me. I’m not going anywhere. Ever.”
The tension seems to melt from Eddie’s body. His shoulders are no longer creeping up to his ears and the lines around his eyes and forehead soften. He leans forward, kissing Buck as soft and deep and thoroughly as he can with a sleeping toddler on his lap.
“Good,” Eddie murmurs when they separate. “I love us, too. The three of us, or if we decide to add more one day.” He presses another kiss to the tip of Buck’s nose, then his birthmark.
Buck hums appreciatively, sinking further into the little bubble they’ve created for the afternoon. Into all of the warm, fuzzy feelings he associates with home and loved and cared for and family. Eddie moves his free hand and threads their fingers together, connecting them even more. Buck breathes a content sigh, shifting so he can rest his head on Eddie’s shoulder. He closes his eyes, just for a minute, thinking he could be satisfied to spend the rest of his life here, just like this.
*****
“Evan. Hey, wake up. Just for a sec.”
“Mads?” He croaks, his tongue thick and clumsy in his mouth. The rest of the world slowly comes into focus with each blink. The television loops through all their favorite photos they use as a screensaver. Chris is still snoozing in his corner and Jee is a loose-limbed bundle sprawled across Buck and Eddie’s laps with her blanket and shark.
At some point Eddie must have fallen asleep, too. He begins to stir at the sound of them talking. “Mmph. What? Oh, hey, Maddie. Sorry, we must’ve all passed out.”
“It’s okay. Everyone must have needed it.” She peers around their fort, pausing on Buck’s wings and Chris’s outfit and Jee’s tiara that’s fallen to the floor. “Looks like it was a fun day.”
Buck smiles, still hazy and dopey and happy. “Yeah, it was. We had a great time with her. As always.”
“Good. I’m glad she wasn’t too much of a handful for you.”
“Not at all,” Eddie says quickly. “She’s welcome anytime.”
“We’ll, uh, help you gather everything together and get her to the car,” Buck offers. “Unless you want to stay for dinner?”
“Thanks, but maybe another time? Howie’s making soup and sandwiches. I’ll just take our little one and head out.”
Maddie carefully lifts Jee into her arms, kissing the top of her head and inhaling deeply. “It never gets old,” she tells them. “Like a piece of me was missing and we’re reunited.”
Buck and Eddie glance at Chris, then exchange a fond look of understanding between themselves.
“Yeah,” Buck agrees, continuing to gaze at his husband. “I know exactly what you mean.”

“In sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part!”
20.0K Words Rated: Teen and Up Audiences
Summary: While Eddie’s working a 48-hour shift, Buck notices something that requires immediate medical attention but he doesn’t tell Eddie about it until he gets home from work. Throughout this difficult time, they’ll hold onto each other like they always do and they’ll fulfill every aspect of their marriage vows, especially the part about “in sickness and in health”.
___________
Here’s a snippet from one of Buck’s and Eddie’s conversations that happens immediately after Eddie gets home from work.
___________
When Buck pulls back, his eyes are red rimmed, his nose is snotty and his face is puffy but he doesn’t care about any of that right now because his husband is home and he finally feels like after 24-hours of dealing with the weight of this shit all on his own, he can finally exhale.
Eddie lifts his hand and uses his forefinger and thumb to lift Buck’s chin, so he’ll meet his eyes. Once he does, he asks, “Can you tell me what happened?” He watches Buck gasp and he feels the shuddering breath he inhales and to reassure him, he admits, “I’m right here and I’m not going anywhere”.
Buck just holds his gaze as he tries to figure out how to say what he needs to say.
After several seconds, Eddie cups his cheeks with both of his hands and asks, “What’s wrong?”
“Uh… yesterday morning when I—I was getting ready to take a shower and I found a—a lump on my chest and uh… I immediately called our doctor.”
Eddie’s eyes widen and he’s not sure what his face is doing but all he wants to know is if Buck’s ok. He doesn’t interrupt him, instead he patiently waits for him to continue.
“I—I got an appointment and I went and uh… he did an exam and after he finished, he uh… referred me to an oncologist.”
While standing in their kitchen, next to the sink, Buck tells his husband everything else that happened yesterday morning including the part where he drove all the way to Oxnard, CA because his mind was spiraling and he didn’t know what else to do.
What's going to happen next?
Does Buck have cancer?

When You Started Crying, Baby I Did Too, But When the Sun Came Up I Was Looking At You (When the Sun Came Up You Were Looking At Me)
Note: This was transcribed from my AO3.
ship: buddie pov: third person written: March 11, 2022 first published: March 11, 2022 word count: 3,982 - summary: Buck and Eddie got married. Buck legally became Chris's father. Things changed. They were the same, but they changed. They weren't half anymore, they were full. Everything was full. Buck's heart was full. Eddie's heart was full. Their lives were finally full– complete.
This is that story. - A/N: I suggest listening to 'Out of the Woods' by Taylor Swift while reading this.
The wedding was beautiful. Small, consisting only of their closest friends and family (though, for Buck, his closest friends were his family), but still beautiful. Jee-yun was the flower girl. Maddie and Chimney were crying as they watched her walk down the aisle throwing the flower petals down. Eddie wore grey. His hair was fluffy. He watched as Buck walked down the aisle to him, tears welling in his eyes. How had he gotten so lucky? Buck wore an off-white. He finally decided to let out his curls. He gave Jee a big hug once he got to the altar, then hugged Maddie, who was still crying, causing his eyes to water too.
Once they were finally face to face, holding each other's hands, Buck was able to let out a deep breath.
"Hi," he said, laughing away his tears.
It elicited a small chuckle from Eddie, too, saying, "Hi."
"So, we're finally doing this," Buck said, giving Eddie's hands a small squeeze.
"Yeah. We are," Eddie responded, squeezing Buck's hands in return, giving him a sure and steady smile.
Chris was the ring-bearer. Buck will never forget Eddie's face when he found out. (He'd told Eddie that he would work out the ceremony details, he just had to make the decisions for the reception, and this was why). He watched as Eddie brought a hand up to his face to cover his mouth, his tears spilling out. He let go of one of Buck's hands, sitting high on his knees before letting go of the other to pull Chris into a big hug. When he pulled back, he gave Chris a big kiss on the forehead, pulling him into a hug once again.
Chris had ended up pulling Buck into the hug, too, so Buck was on one knee, arms around his son (they'd gone through the process of having Buck adopt him, legally making him one of his fathers, as per Christopher's request after Buck and Eddie first started dating), somehow finding the strength to pull away and continue on with the ceremony.
Then there was their rings. The same exact ones, just different sizes, their names engraved into the inside of the dark gray bands, respectively. Slipping the rings on each other's fingers nearly broke both of them as they let out the same shaky breaths followed by soft, quiet laughter shared between them. Buck's hands were shaking, Eddie's barely remaining stable enough to calm him down a little. It was even worse when they shared their vows.
Buck had a paper he'd written his out on, and as he held it you could hear the paper moving with each shake of his hands. He kept on rambling, getting off-topic and wanting tell every story relating to what he had written down. Eventually, though, he got through them, tears having fallen down both their cheeks at that point. Eddie's vows were much shorter, barely any words at all. He had already said everything when he proposed (with a Ring Pop, yes, but a ring nonetheless), so there wasn't much left. The part that made Buck want to cry again was when Eddie pulled two chains out of his pocket, placing one in Buck's hand and claiming it was to put their rings on when at work. That was what made it special.
The kiss was normal. Not a bad normal, no, but a good normal. It was familiar, comfortable. Eddie had one hand on Buck's waist, keeping them steady, him twirling his fingers through the hair at the nape of Buck's neck. Buck's hands were cupping Eddie's face, having been the one to pull him in. It was full of love and emotion, and it was followed by one very, very long hug until Buck's arms gave out on him. Eddie was the one to pull back, caressing Buck's face the same way he's always done to Chris and, since starting on their journey together, Buck, too. He took Buck's hand in his own, giving it a reassuring squeeze before they walked back down the aisle, this time together.
Buck had no idea where they were going for the reception. Eddie had refused to tell him. As they got closer, he realized that they were just going home. Despite all logic and reason, everyone had managed to arrive before them. They were greeted by Hen and Karen, and when they got all the way through the door Maddie pulled Buck into yet another hug while tears streamed down her face. She examined his hands, looking at the ring intently, only making her cry harder. Hen noticed, making her cry, too. Then there was Karen hugging Eddie, the two diving immediately into a conversation about god knows what, Chimney eventually joining in, while Christopher and Denny played on their Nintendo Switches together, Jee-yun leaning over their shoulders to watch.
When he was finally able to pull away from Maddie and Hen, Buck had gone to the kitchen to grab a beer (and to escape), only for Bobby and Athena to enter a moment later. Seeing them, Buck burst into tears, setting his beer down and pulling them into a giant hug. For years, since they'd met, Bobby had treated him like a son. He's always called Bobby 'Pops', and Bobby has always called Buck 'kid'. Since they'd met, Athena has been like a mother, always shaking her head at his often recklessness, but always knowing who he truly is, more than anyone. Their love and support, having been the first ones to find out (a fault of Bobby being the fire captain), meant more to Buck than they would every possibly know. He hoped they could feel it.
Eddie had walked in at that time, in search of his own beer and escape, only for that to be absolved by a sudden concern and worry for 'Why is my husband crying in his parents arms in my kitchen?' This was heightened by the frown on Buck's face when Bobby and Athena left the kitchen to go mingle with everyone else.
"Hey. What's going on? Did something happen?" Eddie asked, going to Buck's side as he stood with his back to the sink, palms gripping the edge of the countertop behind him.
"No," Buck said as Eddie set his beer down, leaning on the counter next to Buck.
"So why are you upset?"
"I'm not– I'm not upset, it's just...why do I feel like I'm going to lose them at any minute?"
"You're not."
"No, that's what you think, but you don't know that."
"You don't know you're going to lose them either."
"I mean, I don't think I will, I just have this gut feeling that everything is about to become royally fucked."
"If that happens, then I'll be right here with you. 'For better and for worse', right? We didn't say those words today for nothing, Evan."
That wasn't the end of the conversation. They went on to talk about lots of things until someone called for a toast, necessitating their presence. It was Chimney, standing on a chair, humorous as always. It was light and funny, and then Eddie's abuela had something she wanted to say, leading into her and his tía Pepa to tell as many embarrassing stories as they could. It made Eddie flustered, yes, but it also made everyone, including him, laugh and smile. It made Buck's arm around Eddie's waist pull him closer as he tried to walk away from it all, Buck's way of saying 'I want all of you, even the embarrassing stories that your family tells any time they're given the chance', and it filled Eddie's heart so much.
Bobby had to cut in to keep the storytelling from going all night long, focusing everyone's attention on the cake that he'd made that was sitting on the kitchen counter. They moved the cake to the table, Buck's hand over Eddie's as they cut the first slice out of the cake. Eddie warned him not to, already knowing what was going through his mind, but Buck simply couldn't help himself, taking the plate and smashing it into Eddie's face. He repeatedly rushed out 'I'm sorry', but it was too late. Eddie wiped some of the frosting off, looking at his then covered hand and to Buck before he began chasing him around the house just to get back at him.
They eventually stopped in the living room, everyone watching from the doorway as Eddie slipped his clean hand around Buck's waist, pulling him close as he smeared the frosting all over his face. Buck had grimaced at the whole thing, but smiled when Eddie's face softened from one of payback to one of love, followed by him giving Buck a kiss. His hand, still having frosting on it, cupped Buck's cheek, little bits of the sweet getting into his hair, while Buck had one hand on Eddie's bicep and the other keeping him pulled in by his chin and jaw. They pulled back, smiling, giving each other one last peck before going to the kitchen to wash their hands and faces. (To this day, they're both endlessly thankful for Chimney's need to record everything. They would have hated to have nothing to remember the moment except their own memories.)
That night, leaving to go to the airport so they could start their honeymoon, Eddie nearly broke at having to tell Christopher they'd be gone for a full week. He almost asked Buck if they could bring him with them. He didn't, though, and they left. They got to the airport and were nothing but smiles, giving each other quick little kisses every chance they could. They held hands the entire plane ride, even when they fell asleep, Eddie's head resting on Buck's shoulder and Buck's head resting on top of Eddie's. They got to their hotel and spent the entire first day in a love haze, just the two of them in their hotel room, nothing less and nothing more (except for, of course, the occasional room service). The rest of the week they spent exploring Buck's hometown.
It was an untraditional destination for a honeymoon, yes, to go to your spouse's hometown, but there was a reason for it. Buck, for the longest time, had been pushing for a tropical vacation, something sunny and warm and with a beach nearby. Somewhere that you would normally go. Eddie was okay with it. He didn't really care. He wanted to go wherever Buck wanted to go, because that was all he cared about– being with Buck. Then, one night, Buck had approached Eddie in their room, climbing into bed with him before saying:
"I think our honeymoon should be to my hometown."
"What?" Eddie asked, the topic sudden.
"Yeah. I mean, I haven't been there since...since I moved out; since I left. I want to go back. I need to go back. My therapist said it would be good. It would help me to actually move on."
"Are you sure that you want to go back? If you do, then that's what we'll do. I don't mind. I just want to make sure that it's something you want to do. I want you to be sure you're ready."
"I think so. Besides, if I'm not we have two options: stay in our hotel for the rest of the week, or come home early."
They visited Buck's childhood home, staying parked in the rental car. Buck didn't want to get out. He felt safer across the street in the car with Eddie. He doesn't regret it. He got the closure he needed. He got to tell Eddie stories, good and bad, that only brought them closer. It was a good decision, because some of the memories had been long forgotten by Buck, only the sight of the house bringing them back. They drove past Buck's high school, his favorite diner, the community college he got kicked out of for spending his tuition money on a motorcycle, the place he got his motorcycle, where Maddie used to work, where Buck got his first job– they drove everywhere. It was slow going, and at some times more painful than others. Buck cried, a lot.
When they got back home to L.A., Buck felt at peace with his past and with his childhood. He felt like his life was finally starting to come together. That night, he and Eddie saying goodnight to Christopher, together, for the first time, Buck realized that it already had come together. He had everything that he'd ever wanted: a family that loves him that he loves back. His life was complete. Eddie's was, too.
Their first day back home as a married couple, they had a shift. Like every morning, Buck woke up first, kissing Eddie on the cheek before getting out of bed, and just like every morning, Eddie was actually awake and smiling to himself (something that would continue for the rest of their lives, and Buck would never find out, but it was always Eddie's favorite part of the morning). Buck made breakfast while Eddie got ready, then he left to do the same while Eddie got Christopher up for the day. Even though it was the summer, he wanted to make sure Chris got up every morning and had fun outside of the house (at least on the days he and Buck were working).
Carla arrived just before Buck and Eddie left the house. She had spent the entire week at their house, and they'd paid her well, but they still felt bad that she had less than a full twenty-four hours to herself before having to come back over. They made sure to leave her a bottle of her favorite wine above the fridge, a note on the front of the freezer to go with. Then, they were off.
Buck got in his jeep, Eddie got in his truck, and, without breaking any traffic laws, they raced to the firehouse. When they got there, they were greeted by a "welcome home committee", consisting of Hen, Chim, Ravi, and Bobby, a banner hanging from the railing saying "welcome home, newlyweds". Then, the bell rang and they had to go on a call. It was nerve-wracking, almost. Some of the tamest calls they'd gone on, one of them had almost died– sometimes not even on a call. They loved their job, and neither of them, especially Buck, was willing to give that up. So they got in the fire engine and they sat across from each other, eyes locked on each other the whole time. They answered questions from their friends, but the second the engine stopped, they reached across and held hands, taking their rings on their necklaces and kissing them before tucking them into their uniforms. That's what they would do for every day to come.
The call ended up not being anything too serious, just an older woman who had fallen and was unable to get up on her own. Buck had stood back and watched as Eddie and Chim made sure she was okay before helping her up, then handing her off to Hen. She didn't have a bump, scratch, or bruise on her. She did, however, notice Buck playing with the chain, and how he kept sliding the ring back and forth. She'd said 'it's new', like it was a well-known fact amongst the world. Then, Eddie, without realizing the context, had begun to do the same thing. The old woman smiled, winking at them as Hen helped her to her couch, checking to make sure she was okay one last time before they got back in the engine and left.
At the end of the week, they decided it would be fun to have a family movie night. They were all wearing pajamas, and Eddie sat down on the left side of the couch, putting on Avengers, the same movie they always watch. Christopher came in with the a blanket, sitting in the middle of the couch, and Buck came in with the popcorn, setting the bowl in Chris's lap. They laughed a lot, and they fell asleep like that, the three of them cuddled on the couch, like a family. Because, officially, that's what they were. A family.
Every Friday that followed, unless Buck and Eddie had to work, the Buckley-Diaz family sat down in their pjs with a blanket and a bowl of popcorn to watch a movie. Sometimes they watched movies they've already seen, and others they would watch a new one that had just been released on DVD after being in the theaters. Most of the time, though, they would continue on with each of the Marvel movies, MCU and otherwise. Most of the time Christopher would be sitting in the middle, but sometimes he was on the right side leaning on Eddie, who was leaning on Buck, or he would be leaning on Buck who was leaning on Eddie. Every time, they would fall asleep there, dealing with the bowl of popcorn when they woke up.
From there, once a month they would have dinner with Maddie, Chim, Jee-yun, Bobby, May, and Athena. Chris enjoyed having a younger cousin, and he enjoyed having an aunt that was still young, and even though Eddie's has his sisters and his sisters have kids, Chris was able to see Jee and May more often, and that's what made it so special. When Eddie thought about what he'd always wanted for Christopher, he realized that, from the moment he met Buck, he never had anything to worry about. He realized that, no matter what, he was right about what he thought with knowing Buck for barely more than a year– that no one would ever fight for his– now their– son as hard as him. 'That's what I want for him.'
Their first Christmas as a married couple, and as a couple living together, Chris woke them up first thing in the morning, bright and early, before the sun had even come up yet. The following year they had to work on Christmas, but they came home to find that Chris had stayed up until they got home. Both years, all he wanted was to open their gifts and have dinner as a family. Every year after that, it was the same. There was, though, the third Christmas. Christopher was fourteen then when he finally asked a question he'd been wanting to know for...well, ever.
"Am I ever going to have a sister?" He asked as they were having their mini feast. It caught Buck and Eddie off-guard, but the conversation wasn't shut down.
"Well, we haven't really talked about it," Buck said, but Eddie already knew how his husband felt about it.
"You've always wanted a kid."
"Well, yeah, but I have Chris."
"Let me rephrase that: you've always wanted a baby," Eddie said, taking Buck's hand.
"Y– yeah, I have, but—"
"No."
"No?"
"No. No shutting down your wishes and wants just because of what you have. Buck, I've talked to Maddie; many times. Every time I mention how much you or Chris loves Jee, she mentions how you've always wanted a daughter. A baby daughter. I don't want to keep you from having that."
"What– what are you saying?" Buck said, almost pulling his hand away from Eddie's before Eddie clasped both his hands around Buck's.
"I want to give you what you want."
"Eddie, you've already done it, though. You've lived it. I'm not making you start over."
"You're right. I already have lived it. I still am living it, right now, with Chris, and with you. I already have what I've always wanted. Now all I want is for my two boys– my son and my husband– to have what they want, and if that means bringing a baby girl into this family, then that's what we're going to do."
So they did. They adopted a little girl. Aniyah. Then, two years after that, when Chris started looking at colleges, was when Buck and Eddie sat down and started talking again. They talked for a long time before deciding that they wanted Aniyah (and Chris) to have another sister. So they adopted another little girl. Riley. They were best friends. Still are. Chris loved them with his entire being. Still does. Their family only became more complete.
The most important parts, though, for both Buck and Eddie, were the same. Not just the same as each other, but the same as they were before. Before they got married, before they got engaged, before they started dating, before they even began to entertain the idea that they could ever be more than friends. The things that had been the foundation of who they are in relation to each other. Them being their utterly idiotic selves, joking around and being confused together, all the time, always, and helping each other through the harder parts of the day and through the rougher calls that they had, leaning on each other for support. The simply being who they are, only now with the added comfort and security that comes from being married and knowing the person you're in love with is in love with you too.
As the years went on, things stayed that way. Things were always that way, and always would be. Even as Chris went off to college, things were still that way. Even as Aniyah and Riley graduated and went into work, things were still that way. Even after they went to May's wedding, things were still that way. Even as they attended Athena's funeral, things were still that way. Even as they attended Bobby's funeral, they were still that way. Even as they watched each other nearly die time after time after time again, they were still that way.
Even after they went to Denny's wedding, they were still that way. Even after they went to Christopher's wedding, they were still that way. Even as they attended Chimney's funeral, they were still that way. Even after they walked Jee-Yun down the aisle in Chimney's honor, just as Maddie and Jee had asked, they were still that way. Even after they walked their own daughters down the aisle, they were still that way. Even as Eddie developed lung cancer and had to retire, Buck doing the same because he vowed to be there for Eddie on their wedding day 'in sickness and in health', things were still that way. Even as Eddie was in remission, things were still that way.
Even as they were out on a date and there was a shooting, and Eddie got shot, again, and Buck felt Eddie's heart stop beneath him, things were still that way. Even after Buck got someone to put pressure on the wound while he did CPR, things were still that way. Even as Buck had to be pulled away from Eddie's dead body, things were still that way. Even as Buck developed Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy, more commonly known as Broken Heart Syndrome, things were still that way. Even after his broken heart killed him, things were still that way. Nothing ever changed who Buck and Eddie are. Not even death. Nothing ever could, because they're Buck and Eddie, and even in death, that's who they'll be.

Summary:
OR There is a Princess, Knight, Dragon, Wizard and Damsel in Distress and there is nothing Uncle Buck won't do for his niece.

A little snippet of my new Buddie Wedding Anniversary WIP:
“Buck?” Buck looks up from where he’s loading the last of the dishes onto the dishwasher.
“What’s up?” He calls back, half distracted.
“Can you come sit down?”
“Gimme a minute, I’m almost done here.”
“Please Buck.” Eddie’s voice slips into a more pleading tone than he intended and Buck looks up quickly, his eyes washing over Eddie’s face, quickly taking stock. Eddie can tell he’s already trying to figure out what’s going on, his mind running through every possible, terrible scenario.
“Okay,” He responds cautiously. “Everything okay?”
