I MET GARY NUMAN LAST NIGHT!

He remembers the shirt I sent to him, and he still wears it. He also joked that he was going to steal the design and sell it in the UK. 😅 I reminded him that his merch guy was supposed to contact me (email) if they decide to turn it into merch. Then he said he wasn't going to steal it (of course) but that he really does like and wear it. Then I got some pics with him.

(Oh, but I also met Matthew Setzer who was playing with Front Line Assembly this year. He used to be in Skinny Puppy. Last year, Tim Sköld was filling this role; he's well known for being in KMFDM.)

#star trek #star trek discovery #section 31 #i don't actually mind section 31 as a narrative element it just needs to be done right #and it rarely has been since its introduction #the narrative purpose section 31 serves is to be like 'hey maybe the Federation Isn't Perfect' #or like 'maybe it's got some systemic problems that are being allowed to continue because they benefit the people in power' #if you just treat it like another part of starfleet/the federation that just has a few bad apples it loses that narrative purpose #because the entire point of it is that it IS the bad apple and it IS spoiling the bunch simply by existing as itself #and that if the federation wants to have any chance at all of actually being what it claims to be #then section 31 and what it represents needs to be excised #you simply CANNOT have 'unambiguous postscarcity utopia' and 'omnipresent unrestricted intelligence agency' at the same time #at least not if you want to have any degree of narrative consistency #the last time i watched this arc in discovery was before i got into ds9 (and met mars!! ily airota) and it's almost unbearable now

In 1937, the WPA's Federal Art Project commissioned Japanese-American artist Eitaro Ishigaki to paint two murals for the Harlem Courthouse. It was part of an ambitious project for murals all over the city; in the end, there were about 400 designs, although many were never painted.

Ishigaki's murals, American Independence (above) and Emancipation, received a hostile reception in the community. In 1938 the City Council branded them "offensive" and removed them. (That may be some Council members taking notes, above, March 31, 1938.) It's unclear whether they were preserved.

Other Harlem murals included work by African-American artists.

Goethe and Wilde

Continuing from here and here, let's talk about Goethe and Wilde.

They both appear to be Ball Pythons, Goethe being an albino morph, and Wilde being either natural or an axanthic morph. No one is known to have created an axanthic ball python morph until 1997, so let's say he's a natural brown and black.

It's also possible that Goethe is something else, like an albino Burmese Python:

I'm finding it hard to ID Goethe, as the white and yellow/orange seem reversed. Either way, Wilde appears to be full grown (or nearly), while Goethe is younger and has some growing to do.

Anyone have a better option for Goethe?

@justanothersnakeblog points out that Goethe could be an albino Corn Snake:

I have to admit, Goethe's head shape looks more like corn snake than python. So, he might be full-grown, after all.
