New Yandere Alert!
Tumblr media
Naughty Boyfriend
Aka The Obscene Male Friend
Reading the first few released chapters, it reminded me so much of “Obscene Baguette Bread”, as the plot was kicked of by a similar “baguette” situation. Lo and behold, the author of both manhwas is the same person!
Tumblr media
The plot is rather simplistic with almost every chapter is smut-fested. FMC and MMC have been best friends for 13 years and the one sided under-pretation from the FMC side on the whole situation kept the movement stagnant. The yandere “sex friend” boyfriend is very sweet but he can be really manipulative. Fortunately for him, the FMC chose to focus on the wrong thing most of the time!

GL (manga/manhwa/manhua) Recs:
Manga:
Sukeban and Transfer Student by Fujichika
Tumblr media
Summary: Rinri Kanzaki, a naive and innocent transfer student, couldn't help but want Atsuko Nagumo, a lone-wolf delinquent, to say "cute words" to her! It's a cute and slightly embarrassing 80s-style school comedy between a transfer student x delinquent.
Review: This manga is literally so cute. Both of them are adorable. Their relationship is also very wholesome.
Status: Ongoing
Composing Spring in this Room where Cherry Blossoms Bloom by Tokuwotsumu
Tumblr media
Summary: On her first day of university, Haruki had a fateful encounter with Sakura in the lecture hall. They were attracted to each other and lived together after graduation, but suddenly they had to part ways. Sakura had disappeared from this world. Five years have passed since then, and it is the fifth cherry blossom season. Haruki, who was still in a state of grief, happened to find a diary. It was the unfinished diary written by Sakura.
Review: This was so beautifully written. The grief portrayed in this manga was very realistically written. I highly recommend this!
Status: Completed
Manhwa:
Tumblr media
Summary: Jeanne, a prostitute at address 74, took care of the fallen Janet. Jeanne wants to be friends with Janet, but Janet tries to get information out of her.
Review: I liked this a lot but I wish the author stuck to writing 13 chapters like they had originally planned because near the end everything felt a bit rushed. However, it's still a good read although I recommend keeping a box of tissues near while reading this tho.
Status: Completed
Tumblr media
Summary: Welcome to Greywoods, a beautiful mansion isolated deep in the countryside. Its main inhabitants? Viscount Rose, his daughter Lady Eileen, the housekeeper, the butler, and a new maid, Marie. As Lady Eileen and her newest (and only) companion begin to open up to each other, do their hearts follow close behind? Now, don’t mind any lingering ghosts still haunting the grounds, they’re not real! Nor are there any enduring secrets, deep-rooted betrayals, or an air of mystery... just trust me.
Review: This is an excellent read! Although Eileen and Marie's relationship developed very fast, it didn't feel forced. Their relationship was very smoothly written I'd say. There's also a supporting character, Lynda who was very well written. I do recommend checking the trigger warnings before reading this.
Status: Completed
Tumblr media
Summary: Andrew is the only daughter of the famous Grace family. She also has an incurable disease. Due to her family's high status in society, Andrew grew up with no friends save for her maid, Herta, whom she has become intensely infatuated with. Little does she know, her family is responsible for ruining Herta's life. Can Andrew break the hierarchy and be with her? Or will Herta end her suffering first...
Review: The two main leads are well written. The story itself is filled with angst. There are a few issues I have with this but I still liked it a lot. I do recommend checking the trigger warnings before reading this.
Status: Completed
Manhua:
Tumblr media
Summary: Qi went to sleep embraced by her girlfriend, Yuanzi. However, when she opened her eyes she realized that she had been transported 10 years back to the past, back when she was still in high school. While she sees this as an opportunity to save the love of her life, what she doesn't realize is that her teenage self is in her adult body, 10 years into the future, and has no clue about the life Qi has built or how precious the time she has left with Yuanzi is. No matter the time, no matter the age, their love resonates as they stand by each other's side. Will they be able to conquer fate?
Review: The plot was never dragged and the pacing was very smooth. The characters are also very cute. There were issues I had with a certain side character but other than that it was a very pleasant read.
Status: Completed
A Story Concerning Sweets by Shi Yi Er
Tumblr media
Summary: This is a story concerning sweets and two girls. One is a ghost who wanders around in the hospital, and another is a patient with a heart condition. It's cute! It's fluffy!
Review: It's cute and angsty at the same time. I recommended keeping a box of tissues near you.
Status: Completed

Every thing i read in Febubary
Tumblr media
I Became the Tyrant of a Defense Game
The MC of this novel is so fucking silly cause who tf names their kid Ash 'Born hater' Everblack? Like i'm being for real right now, his mom literally called him her 'little hater'. Love that
So, a Korean gamer who was streaming about this old strategy game on hardmode where if you fail once the game resets. The guy got isekaied the moment he finished the game on stream and right in the middle of the battle field too, tough luck hater.
Before we go more in depth about this story I would recommend that you read the novel version, the manhwa seems a little tacky and i've seen alot of readers complain that the manhwa makes everything look cheaper.
So, one of reasons why it made on to my reading list is because it was recommended by my guy friends who has great taste for this kinda genre. It drew him in because it used actual strategies that he would also use in his game instead of throwing around random lingo in hopes to cater to gamers. Like every battle was truly suspenseful and the author isn't afraid to show that every victory requires a sacrifice. Also I've seen people praise the character development of this novel, everyone starts out a little stereotypical and annoying but they get their own story arcs to shine.
Another thing i like is that this story is about the fight against the end of the world. Like i know alot of stories with that kind of premise but rarely do i ever feel the urgencey as strongly as i do with this story. The last stand against a sea of monsters waiting to consume the world and the young prince who's tasked with the question of remaining human or turning into a monster to save his world. I love me some classical fantasy
Anyways, it has 500+ translated chapters and it's all free. Go read it now.
The problematic prince
Tumblr media
If i'm being honest here i can think of at least 10 more manhwa crown princes who are even more problematic than the ML, especially that guy from the abandoned empress, yeah fuck you blueberry head.
So the story premise is the typical bad boy x good girl story trope. Our prince Bjorn keeps getting pestered by his ex wife whom he doesn't want contact with and our FL is being sold off to the highest bidder in society, shinnaigans happen and so the are married. That's the very shorten version of the plot
First thing that i noticed, the vibes. It gave off so much Edwardian, turn of the century energy that i adore. From the costuming to the city streets and the interactions between common people. Love it.
The author seems to have been blessed with amazing writing skills because oh my god did the writing style made me swoon. Erna, our FL, can be classified as one of those soft girl heroines but i feel like she's more than that. She knew what she had to do to keep her loved ones safe and always strived for better, she's not a cunning villainess nor a simpering coward. Erna never settled and kept enduring and trying new ways to connect with others around her even when she's being labelled as a home wrecker.
Also the nobilities and medias reaction to their marriage was incredibly realistic, i see alot of manhwas with rags to riches stories or men marrying women with horrendus reputations but never mention how powerful the influence of the peoples opinions. Here you can see that Bjorn and Erna's relationship, while rocky still holds strong, it seemed like they are truly in love and happy with their choices. Yet media still condemns her as a witch, a slut and a disgrace towards the royal family. It even lead to a attempt on Ernas life. Which shows you how easily the public can be whipped into a frenzy just because of a narritive that she is other woman.
The spirit queen
Tumblr media
If i even find the author of this manhwa i would like to make out with them and have their babies, cause this kind of genious deserves to be preserved.
Do you want a story with proper drama? Do you want something that actually keeps it's momentum and doesn't half ass shit half way through? Do you want themes about power and how it turns people into the worse version of themselves? Well look no further. The spirit queen has your back
Another thing that i loved about this story was it's sympathy towards the working class. The servants in this aren't the stereotypical happy go lucky loyal maids that you see in manhwas, they also aren't evil back stabbing people either. They know that their lives are worthless when it comes to the upper classes so they do all that they can to survive and to protect their loved ones. And i respect that as hell, even if it made them do less than savory things.
Also i recently learned that the author, Tutu-nim, wrote and drew this manhwa on their own. A true girlboss
Run away with me, girl
Tumblr media
Remember all those times you said that you can be a better husband for the FL? Well this is a lesbian romance based on that premise.
It's a bittersweet romance story about two girls who were high school friends meeting each other after 10 years. Maki, who is till doing her graduate courses while living with her mom and lamenting her loneliness, while Midori is engaged and pregnant and living that perfect, normal life she wanted. Of course everything is not as it seems, and that's what the author wanted to explore in the coming chapters of the story
It's a short read, about 16? 17? chapters. But the author manages to do so much in that short amount of time. Every character felt so real and complicated. At first when you see Midori and the way that she treated Maki after their reunion, it's not hard to come to the conclusion that Midori is just playing around with Makis feelings. Especially with the way that she flirts and then reminds Maki of her engagement to her boyfriend.
This manga has the most realistic, hut wrenching potrayals of abuse, love and hate i've seen in a while. And if i'm being honest there is a high chance i would do the same if i was stuck in their situation.

Top 5 historical R19 manhwas you should give it a try
It's been awhile since I post here. Thank you for following me. Can't believe I have 280 followers ^^♡ so I was thinking what I should post about and I thought "why not? Let's give adults here something to read" lol.
In no particular order, let's start:
5. The Sultan's Love
First of all, art is 💯. Story is simple and not that dramatic. You will def enjoy MC's naivety and ML's obsession. Smut is also drawn very well and although short, it's def enjoyable read. (Completed)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Winter Wolf
Everything starts with MC trying to run away from rebels and arriving at promised place with a broker who will help her to get to safe place or... will he?! First smut is good and although MC's IQ decreases sometimes, it still has decent art and enjoyable moments. It has this creepy vibe at first but it gets better.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Marriage of Convenience
This one is timetravel/historical manhwa. There is both R15 and R19 ver out. There is alot of historical elements in it like child marriage and ect. Characters are living in a dark age if you ask me. eventhough MC's second life is much brighter, it doesn't change the real facts. I enjoy how ML grows closer to MC and is such a fanboy for her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. A Kind Goblin's Bird
This manhwa is pure fluff. MC being abused all her life learns how to love and embrace her deep scars from ML. I love how also ML had a tragic past but it didn't make him a tr*sh. They are a perfect and healthy couple for smut genre. (Completed)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. The Broken Ring
Aka "This Marriage Will Fail Anyway". This one got R19 version recently and manhwa's art is so pretty you all gonna enjoy it. Aside from R19, I have to mention this story is deep and tragic. It will touch you heart and makes you cry and laugh with it. Do not judge ML in first chapters. Trust me.
(I couldn't help putting novel cover too. Both manhwa and novel have beautiful art.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that's it. I hope you enioy reading these manhwas. Next post will be about "underrated action manhwas". Look forward to it. ^^

Chapter 140-144 discussion
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now because these four chapters are basically one big chapter all culminating in Junhyuk and Yeonwoo's reconciliation I'm going to put it all together in one big gigantic fat essay.
You're welcome.
Starting off with chapter 140 let us all praise Jinwoo for his amazing advice because all this was really solved by Jinwoo telling Yeonwoo if "he doesn't listen to you just punch him". That right there is some solid advice and it did wonders for our boys in the long run.
I also just love how Jinwoo is so quote-on-quote nonchalant about this entire debacle between Junhyuk and Yeonwoo but you can tell that he cares, he wouldn't be talking to Yeonwoo if he didn't care. Even though he complains about his broken heart and we all know he's jealous of the fact that Yeonwoo and Haesol are dating that doesn't deter him from helping a friend in need.
Let's also talk about and appreciate how Jinwoo and Yeonwoo have truly become friends. Like I'm so happy that Yeonwoo now has another male friend who is not Junhyuk. Now he understands what a friendship between two men is more than likely supposed to look like. His relationship with Junhyuk is abnormal and him having a friendship with another man in a way that is normal, in a sense I feel like it's going to do good for him.
Gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss Yeonwoo, he came out in the cold in his pajamas on purpose because he knows that Junhyuk has a strong tendency to take care of him. Like even when Junhyuk is trying to stay away from Yeonwoo he still has that desire to take care of Yeonwoo and I just find that so heartwarming but also so messed up when you think about it. Like their bond is so deep that even in the midst of an argument they still have those habits that they are unable to get away from. Ah trauma. (Haesol would be livid) Scratch that that's a positive thing now.
I can feel Yeonwoo's frustration as Junhyuk is just not listening to him and just brushing him off.
That punch was so satisfying.
I adored and loved every minute of it. The way I had to wait for those chapters to come out, painful (after the chapter 147 raws it's about to get worse).
Them airing out all their guilt, honesty, I loved it but it is very obvious that they are still holding some things back.
Completely off topic but the panel where Haesol is telling Yeonwoo that his relationship with Junhyuk is abnormal when I first read that chapter I was terrified because I thought her grip on him was too hard but now that we go back into the memory and Yeonwoo has calmed down and that shadow on her face is gone the look on her face is so soft and her hold on him is so careful I'm actually sick. (Ya I'm delusional so what)
Only Yeonsol people Only Yeonsol!!!
Back to the boys.
This argument between them was honestly what we all needed but it wasn't enough I'm not going to lie. There are still so many things that they should talk about and it kind of feels like they are brushing things under the rug but, it is a start. They have never had an argument before and this is their first argument so it's a start.
I can't be the only one who thought that Junhyuk talking about his fixation on Yeonwoo and how he can't help do certain things when he's with him... that low key sounded like a confession... I'm not going to lie I was like how this was wording. I just found it funny and I loved it I'm not going to lie. Like I love my platonic boys but the wording, it stuck out to me and I cackled.
What makes this even better is the fact that Junhyuk and Haesol are both jealous of each other because of the others relationship with Yeonwoo. THE IRONY!
Something that struck me was them talking about how Yeonwoo tried to off himself and how that made Junhyuk feel. it was honestly something that they needed to talk about because the moment that happened in the flashback I was like they better talk about this when they reconcile because there's no way you're going to have that be such a major part of Junhyuk's trauma and not address it.
Plus Yeonwoo is too perceptive he is very intelligent when it comes to understanding other people's emotions especially Junhyuk he's been with the man his whole entire life, he understands Junhyuk. Them talking about that and reconciling has healed a part of me that I did not know was broken. It healed a part of me that I thought it genuinely loved the angst but that part showed me how much I actually needed healing.
It was an eye opener.
That sequence of them going back and forth from their childhood to them in the park and that hug that finally came
*smacks hand on table*
that was just so cathartic.
The release I felt when they finally hugged it out oh my God that was so good I was all over the place. it was just too good.
It was actually amazing.
Now in chapter 143 the awkwardness that has come after that was honestly so realistic.
I love how Esol is just so realistic in her depictions of all the characters and especially in the human aspects of their relationships. For instance if this was any other webtoon this realistic awkwardness that comes after you reconcile from a fight would probably not be as well flushed out as it is in this chapter. It would be a miniature gag and then they would move on and act like nothing happened.
I appreciate how Esol doesn't do that and she takes everything that is happening seriously and you can tell the amount care that she puts into each and every one of the scenes that she draws and puts out into the world.
Now I know this chapter is about them reconciling and everything becoming better but I am not the only person who thinks that Yeonwoo has the potential to be a master manipulator. Like yeah his intention is to reconcile with Junhyuk and be friends with him again but the way certain things are worded where he's like "you can let go of your guilt that you have for me now" or when he goes on and on about how he isn't the best person but he still wants to be friends with Junhyuk... like I know he has good intentions but that right there could be some master manipulator type stuff I'm just putting that out into the world because it is there.
Other than that chapter 143 is honestly great but... when Yeonwoo says that there are times where he wishes he could have come to school with a gun and shot up the place... now as an American that hit a bit too close to home and I was gagged I had to take several steps back because my boy!
Like sure I would let you do that to me but I mean in all honesty I was surprised I was bamboozled. . . It was still a fun read but I was very surprised.
Did I mention that shock to me.
Ya? Ok.
Yeonwoo admitting to Junhyuk that if it weren't for Junhyuk he probably would not be here today that actually warmed my heart. Junhyuk has been having a crisis over how he isn't helping Yeonwoo, thinking that he is in fact harming him (this is all Haesol's fault) and for Yeonwoo to tell him that because of Junhyuk he would not be here today is just so good.
It really does something to your soul you know.
Now this reconciliation was sweet but can we just talk about how pretty Yeonwoo is. Like I know Esol loves drawing our main leads because her Instagram and Twitter have the most jaw-dropping works of Haesol and in the webtoon the way she draws Yeonwoo needs to be studied because he's just absolutely mesmerizing.
The panel where Yeonwoo is pulling his hand out for Junhyuk to shake it so they can move on and the slight blush that dusts his cheeks as the camera pans to Junhyuk's point of view, how his expression is just one of embarrassment with a mix of shame and a tad bit of frustration 🤤
Oh my Lord I had to like take a break from my computer because I unconscious.
My heart stopped
I was contemplating my life decisions.
I was ready to get down on my hands and knees and do anything he asked because how the heck can someone look that pretty with a bruised eye no less.
The detail that Esol goes into when drawing Yeonwoo it's just magnificent and I'm fed every chapter with how pretty he is.
Enough of that, I can honestly go on and make like a 20 page essay on his looks alone. You wouldn't want to read that.
Them shaking hands was great but of course knowing Esol she had to add that ominous cloud of black static that kind of dampend in the mood a tad bit but hey we got what we got and I'm honestly not mad at it because it was great.
The cloud eludes to the fact that there is going to be a constant stain on their psyches because of what happened to them middle school. It is honestly a great way to show trauma but it's also a great way to show that they are moving on and they are getting better.
Now let's get to the meat and butter of this chapter
...
HAESOL BABY
SHE'S OBVIOUSLY SO MAD!!!
The drama!!! it's just so good for my soul. Poor Nari (all hail Nari she deserves it) she just wants all her friends to be friends again and then here are Haesol and Yeonwoo going through something right after Yeonwoo and Junhyuk have rekindled their relationship.
Yeonwoo going on a whole entire ramble of denial talking about how him and Haesol are not fighting... Like sweetie... babes
You're fighting.
Haesol is jealous and you yourself are also jealous.
There are so many points of miscommunication for these two.
Talking about that alone is going to warrant its own essay (I will do it) like these two are so messy and they're messy in a way that isn't even frustrating because they can easily fix it, no they're messy in a way that is just so sensible. That's what makes it so frustrating.
You get both of their points of views and that's what makes it so much worse because you understand them both. Therefore you understand why they both are not talking about the glaring issue that is their jealousy.
It's just so good.
That last look where Yeonwoo is asking Haesol can we talk and the look on her face....
I just it's so good like oh my God she just looks so ugghh I can't even explain it. You understand what I'm talking about though.
Now you know honestly this was my favorite part of this little arc.
The reveal of how Junhyuk really got his injuries and how he actually beat that man to a pulp even though he is "crippled" like that piece of trash had all the talk in the beginning, talking about how "oh you mean Junhyuk the cripple??
Yet that cripple was the one who beat you and your gang who had weapons by the way to a bloody pulp.
LIKE WHO'S LAUGHING NOW!!!
Now I so desperately wanted him to carry out that final act and just end that piece of trash's life but hey this is not a murder mystery and this is definitely not a thriller (that's debatable) but man was that good.
Junhyuk laughed in his face when he saw that he pissed himself.
Haah!!!
I myself cackling a little.
When I saw that I was on the floor. it was so funny like for all your big talk you can't carry out anything without the people around you.
Which honestly just pisses me off more because Junhyuk is right victims are often left to deal with the consequences of other people's actions and just told to move on when all it would have really taken for this to not happen is the people around Yeonwoo shunning the bully and that bully could not have done anything.
Like let's remember that the bully was only powerful because the people in the class let him get that powerful.
All the class had to do was recognize that what he was doing was wrong and ultimately shun him and everything that happened to Yeonwoo would not have happened to him.
A simple solution but they made it 10 times more complicated because they were scared of what some guy who bullied someone in another school. Like yeah he's strong but you're a collective. the class could have simultaneously ganged up on him and made him stop and he wouldn't have been able to do anything.
Eventually the teacher would have had to step in and do something about it. (No matter how useless they are) I'm still pressed on that and I blame that entire class and the teachers for what happened to Yeonwoo.
Next chapter we're going to get some Nari and Junhyuk and I'm so here for that I love those two they are like my favorite side pairing now because I love them so much.
First comes Yeonsol than come
Junnari?
Did I just come up with their ship name???
Yes I did!!!
Now that was fun and I'm so excited for the next chapters because I read chapter 147 and I'm not going to be able to think about anything else for the rest of the week!!!
When that chapter gets translated and it comes out I'm going to go on the most diabolical rant of all time you all better be ready because I'm going to go haywire.
You all know my love for angst and this right here is prime good stuff not only is the angst delicious but the context behind the angst is even more of a scrumptious side meal.
Before I spoil anything I'm going to stop this here but this!
This story is just getting so much better and I am absolutely living.
That coupled with the new artists that have joined the fandom (check over on Twitter)
Things are looking up....
for me!!
HAHAHAHAHA
call ambulance... but not for me!!!
(Also side note but you guys can also leave your own rants and your own analysis is on what you think is happening I would love to hear what everyone else has to say. Being the only person who's posting a chapter analysis on the upcoming chapters is fun but I would also like to know what everyone else thinks. I've seen that a few people have joined the subreddit so why not jump-start the activity by making your own takes. Just be respectful)

Manhwa Review: Not-Sew-Wicked Stepmom Vol. 3 – Team Edition
Tumblr media
The latest volume in this joyous series takes a more serious turn while flipping the script completely on the cold, distant Sabrian, who until now has been Blanche’s father and Abigail’s husband in name only. Crucially, this volume reveals the root of Sabrian’s aversion to women, and tragically, it lies in childhood sexual abuse. The topic is handled sensitively through implication rather than direct depiction, while a message of hope unfolds through the chapters as Sabrian begins to take steps toward healing. Meanwhile, Blanche too is growing more and more confident, expressing her own likes and dislikes and taking the initiative, instead of remaining cowed before the adults who seek to control her. The royal family is being transformed! And it’s all thanks to Abigail. In short, this series just keeps getting better and better!
Now for a spoilerific dive into the surprising depths of Not-Sew-Wicked Stepmom Volume 3!

Solo Leveling
Enjoyment: 8/10
Quality: 4/10
Link
Genre: Action
Synopsis
Sung Jin-Woo is an weak E rank hunter barely making it in low rank dungeons when he faces a bizarre dungeon which leaves his party mostly dead and him as the only survivor. However, as the old saying goes, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Sung Jin-Woo has now acquired the ability to level up and he is on his grind to become the strongest hero of all time.
Review
I think this is probably the biggest gap I've given between the enjoyment of something and the quality. Firstly, lets talk about the positives. Solo Leveling has really nice looking art and panel composition. The fights are well framed and executed and everything looks very cool. Secondly, Solo Leveling is a very effective power fantasy. There is just something deeply satisfying about watching this guy level up and seeing the tides of battle immediately be reversed upon his arrival. In a world where good does not always prevail, it is satisfying to read Sung Jin-Woo triumph against what look to be hopeless odds. However, I think in terms of writing on a technical level that make the text worse even when considering genre and the tfact that it is suppose to be a power fantasy.
First, I want to talk about the fact that the text spends time foreshadowing things that are never developed. There are two cases that I think best exemplify this. The less egregious one was with the case of the Chinese hunter Liu Zhigang. His abilities where shown multiple times and there were numerous instances where it seemed like it he would become important in the later story. However, ultimately literally nothing happens with his character and he just gets dropped as the later arcs focus entirely on Sung Jin-Woo.
Secondly, in this case of Sung Jin-Woo's romantic interest of Cha Hae-In. Following the Jeju Island Arc, there is significant development of the relationship between the two. It appeared that she was going to his guild and maybe we would get a story arc between the two. However, some other random character ends up joining the guild and no arc happens. What makes this particularly egregious is that the new character that ends up joining the guild ends up being unimportant to the story and she doesn't actually do anything. What is the point of introducing this new characters to the guild if they aren't going to contribute meaningfully to the story. Not only is nothing done with the new character that has been introduced but also this ends Cha Hae-In being meaningful to the story. After this moment, she also disappears from the story and basically nothing happens between the two of them until shortly before the final arc where they go on a date and the epilogue where they are married. Ignoring the rest ending and epilogue for a moment, I'll get back to that at some point, there isn't enough development done between Jin-Woo and Hae-In for me to care about their relationship. They are basically strangers who haven't talked to each other in months by the time of their date. By not having Hae-In join Jin-Woo's guild, what was the point of them getting closer during the Jeju Island arc. She could basically be cut from the story and nothing would change. We lose out on having two characters interacting and developing as characters. Her character just feels like a prop to indulge in the power fantasy of the strong conventionally attractive woman falling for the main character.
This brings me to my other major critique in that Sung Jin-Woo morphs into a story warping character. This isn't true at the start, early on there are a lot of compelling supporting characters with their own struggles and goals but as the story progresses they become less and less important. Eventually, Jin-Woo is the only character that actually matters and the only character with any meaningful development. Hae-In's fate is the same as every other supporting character as they no longer become relevant nor are their arcs developed or focused on; it becomes, in essence, a one man show. This leads into the ending where Jin-Woo resets the world and everyone forgets about the hunters.
This ending is really bad; I really hate the ending. The story basically ends by wiping out every character arc other than Jin-Woo's and resets the world to what it was before the story began. To highlight why I think this story is bad, lets again focus on the epilogue where Jin-Woo gets married to Hae-In. The reason why these two characters had a connection as hunters because they were both absurdly powerful and they were both isolated. They both have dealt with the struggle of being a hunter and the isolation that comes with said power. But this Hae-In is the not same Hae-In that he marries; the Hae-In that he marries is essentially a stranger with no connection to him. However, the failure of Solo Levelling to actually develop any of its side characters means that this is failure becomes blunted. Very few characters are actually different than when we first met them so nothing much is actually reset as all the character development that actually happens is about Jin-Woo.
All in all, Solo Leveling is a very power fantasy to read but it doesn't actually do anything substantive or interesting with its characters.

Warrior’s Afterlife
The Plot : 8/10
The yandere : 8/10
The artwork : 9/10
Author/artist : Babsot
The warrior has just died, but instead of passing on to the other world, someone picked him up and taking him to a demon world. An interesting premise right from the start.
Tumblr media
The warrior died in the hands of people whom he helped in his lifetime. Ungrateful and greedy human being… The human world where he lived in was suffering from demonic manifestations that appeared randomly from time to time. It was their reality. The warrior was a skilled fighter who was unbeatable. He was loved and praised by the people for his skill and (somewhat reluctant) altruistic nature. This made the King jealous and his advisors urged him to kill the hero.
Tumblr media
Come back to the present, the warrior’s observant nature made him an active subject in the demon world. He watched Demi, the demon who helped him closely, perplexed by the demon’s muted perversion. His inner observations were funny to read. For example, he was spot on thinking that Demi’s attire is rather perverted even for a demon.
Tumblr media
The warrior’s smart and observant nature helped the plot progressing faster. Demi was not as simple as he was trying to convey. But he was rather innocent too. This cute side has made the warrior smitten. This helped him to go beyond the human x demon animosity and lifelong vengeance, and finally came around to forgive Demi for what he has done.
Tumblr media
The story is very smutty with less usual pairing. The yandere is the uke. If you feel that the art is somewhat familiar, yup! This came from the same author who wrote Lima Syndrome. Compared to the other title, Warrior’s Afterlife is definitely way more wholesome.
With a less travelled plot/premise, excellent characterisation and superb art, this manhwa deserves a solid 8/10 easy!

Review: Her Tale of Shim Chong
Summary: Her Tale of Shim Chong (referred to as Her Tale from here on) is a Korean manhwa written by Seri and illustrated by Biwan. Set in feudal Korea, Her Tale is a historical, girls' love retelling of classic Korean novel The Tale of Shim Chong. It tells the story of Shim Chong, a beggar who is desperately trying to make ends meet to feed her and her blind father, and the soon-to-be second Madame Jang, who has been sold into marrying the Chancellor to give her family a better position. After a chance encounter, they build a friendship -- and eventually more -- that transcends class boundaries. But not everyone is happy with the Chancellor's new wife, and Chong's presence is far from welcome in the royal palace. When the Chancellor falls into a mysterious coma after the wedding night, his children make plans to oust Madam Jang, and it may be up to Shim Chong to save not only their relationship, but their lives.

Minor spoilers under the cut:
The Good: This writing in this manhwa is, overall, excellent. Chong and Madame Jang are complex characters with a variety of competing wants, needs, personalities, and flaws that elevate the conflicts in the story and bring them to life in an extraordinary way. As a result, their relationship is very realistic, developing organically thanks to their dazzling chemistry. But, not all is easy in this story; as our protagonists grow closer, they are met with fierce opposition, sometimes from each other, that adds much needed drama to the story. In particular, Jang's daughter-in-law and Monk Sumin are incredibly effective antagonists, each challenging Chong and Jang in unique ways. The long term conflict -- the raging waters of the Indangsoo Sea -- is also an ever-present threat, growing and growing until the characters in the story have no choice but to take drastic action. All of this is brought to life by Biwan's incredible art, which injects a vibrancy to the story that elevates it from a great story to an unforgettable one.
The Bad: Despite how much I clearly love this story, Her Tale does have some shortcomings, the most glaring of which lies in the pacing. This story has, putting it lightly, a lot of ground to cover and, though it is a solid 81 chapters long, there is not enough time to cover it. This results in some major plot points being resolved incredibly fast, particularly at the end of the story, and other plot points being seemingly dropped with no explanation. A good example of this is in the first half of the story, when it is revealed that Madam Jang may be poisoning the Chancellor and causing his coma. Initially, this seems like it is going to be a big deal in the story, but at a certain point, it is dropped and never brought up again. This leaves the audience no insight into why Madam Jang would potentially do such a thing, despite the crucial fact that the Chancellor's coma is actively making her life harder. Additionally, while some of the antagonists are well-written to the point of being lifelike, others are antagonistic to the point of being over the top, making them feel cartoon-ish and overall clashing with the tone of the rest of the story.
The Overview: All in all, Her Tale is an excellently written and plotted story that drew me in and raised the bar for what it means to tell a visual yuri/girls love story. Shim Chong and Madam Jang will stick with me for a long time and I really look forward to rereading this series sometime in 2024. It says something that my biggest criticism of the series is a complaint about the pacing, which ultimately boils down to wanting more of the story. I truly can not recommend Her Tales enough and will certainly be looking for more girls love stories by Seri in the near future.
Overall rating: A-
