So now that we've been through all the fourteen fears plus the Extinction I'm very curious to see where we will end up now. And most importantly where Daisy is.

having Thoughts about deaths in tma having the opposite of shock value (which I guess, to put it concisely, would be 'story value'). Quite aside from the characters who were dead from the beginning, and about whom the how and why were where the plot twists and development lay, there's Daisy.
The 'will she or won't she?' suspense is all but gone: Jon has said she a) needs to die and b) is going to, and we believe him, because he knows everything and he hasn't been wrong yet in this new world. He's telling us exactly how this story's going to end, which from a writing perspective is Jonny reminding us exactly how this story's going to end. We literally CANNOT be shocked by it, and guess what: it's still excellent storytelling!! Television writers, take note!

This episode puts a lot of Jon's development in an entirely new context. Gonna lay it out.
From season 1 and season 2, Jon took a lesson, his feelings and fears do not matter. From his denial to his paranoia, indulging in his own fears and this taking preventitive measures only brought others pain. Season 2 in particular, when Jon brings up how he's feeling about all this, Tim interrupts him by telling him off.
Season 3 is where Jon isolates himself from everyone else. He's learned the world is dangerous and no matter what he does, no one is safe. But, everyone has their own will and their own goals, and Jon is already too far deep to push everyone else away. So by the end, he resolves himself to trust them, to go against his fear and paranoia. Despite people like Tim treating him like a monster, he still cares. This is also the season where he had the most avatar encounters, over and over, his safety was compromised and he was thrown around like he was nothing. In particular, this is also where Jon starts hiding his he's feeling because of various traumas. Jon's interaction with Martin post Nikola in S3, him awkwardly joking with Martin how his skin being in better condition than ever.
This is a sign of him wanting to talk to others but feeling he has no right to. He doesnt want to hurt them with his own feelings.
Which brings up to season 4 and I'm going to skip to the Daisy of it all. The first half is a lot of Jon taking the abuse of others because he feels like he deserves it. But the second half and the Daisy interactions... Jon self-admiitedly was willing to go in because he wanted to save Daisy for Basira. Despite Daisy being one of his worst memories. Despite Basira treating him like shit, he saved her because he didn't feel like he deserved to have an opinion otherwise. Maybe he also saved her for a different reason.
At this point Jon had been taking statements from people. He knew he was at least acting like a monster. Perhaps he thought himself equal to Daisy and was willing to put aside his own trauma to save her.
Even if that's not the case, their interactions in s4 have a different light. With Daisy, Jon wanted to emphasize with someone who was a monster in his eyes. He knew she was more than anyone. If she had no choice in what she became, maybe he didn't either. But no. Daisy chose this path and she chose to hurt him because it felt good. In season 4, Daisy and Jon have soft moments, two people who see themselves as monsters and want to not be monsters by any means. But that didnt mean they didnt have personal baggage to go with it.
I think back to season 4, and the listen to the quiet moment takes on a weird perspective. In the scene, JON had been the one just held at knifepoint, but by the end, Jon was the one comforting Daisy, helping her by repeating listening to the quiet. It's one of many times he put aside his own feelings for her.
And maybe there was a friendship there at one point. Jon was remorseful enough about Daisy's transformation back in at the beginning of S5. But maybe he's also changed his mind about a lot of things. S5 has been a journey of Jon gaining power and using it against those who hurt him. Finally he can take his own feelings in account again, but in the worst possible scenario.
Jon's journey has been one of trauma endured again and again for the sake of causing this world. As a result, he lost his sense of autonomy and sense self worth from every point of the way. It's no wonder he doesn't like to share how he's feeling, he's been self-taught not to.

i’m still reeling from the glimmer of good news (i can get my surgery oh my god) but the new TMA episode Is Good. TMA is a rehabilitationist narrative, and I’m thrilled.
i’m just really glad for the second time i think i’ve come across a story that truly believes that the most important thing you can do if you’ve done something terrible is to become a better person.  forget forgiveness, forget atonement, sometimes they are literally impossible, and your choices are self-flagellation (which doesn’t help anyone but yourself) or... being better.
the fucking tragedy of daisy, that she realized this, that she never asked forgiveness, that she made the decision to be better even if it slowly killed her... only to fall into a deeper kind of monsterhood because the apocalypse, jesus fucking christ, that’s a tragedy.
i love this show!!!!! i love it.
