CELEBRATE WITH ME!
Thank you so much, @utterly-in-like! I can’t wait to dive into your fics soon— I’m on my tasm!peter kick but I saw that you write Tony Stark, and Psych (your xover with white collar)??? Man it’s been a hot minute since I read any Psychfic.
Fun fact that’s one of the fandoms I used to write the most for back in the day. The fic I’m most proud of from that era was an insane Final Destination-themed crossover fic feat Shawn Spencer, Johnny Smith from The Dead Zone, Adrian Monk from Monk, and Xander Harris from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Yeah, it was a whole thing.
BUT enough about that - you ordered a pic of Andrew Garfield and I present to you, a GIF
Tumblr media
This one is special. See, this one is yoga instructor!Peter Parker.
tw health/body issues, post COVID illness, sexy innuendo under the cut
You really hate your sister for this, despite her good intentions.
Instead of being a sympathetic ear to your complaints about your ping-ponging energy and your slow cardio recovery post-COVID, she went and actually tried to help you. Goddamn it—all she had to do was sit there and listen to you be miserable, with the occasional wheeze and cough as you try to do something physically taxing. Like taking out the trash. Or standing up too fast.
But no. Instead, she bought you one of those gift certificates for a package of weekly yoga classes. 12 weeks seems extravagant, and you told her so with a sour, sarcastic, “Oh. You shouldn’t have.” But then you realized it was a biweekly vinyasa in the middle of Central Park at the magic hour of 5:00am.
What a bitch.
“We can go together!” she said. “We’ll make it a thing!”
The “thing” was you showing up in the middle of a dewy field at the ass crack of dawn to greet 6 other strangers—your sister nowhere to be found—as she cancelled her membership the night before and neglected to tell you.
What a bitch.
You hate running. You have no time to go to a gym. And you haven’t ridden a bike since you were 9. But here you are, rolling out the cheapest mat you can find and an old bath towel, next to an array of all walks of life and all number of age.
Great. You’re going to wheeze with your jiggly ass in the air next to a 67-year-old Herculean, bald guy who brought nothing but too-short shorts, a beat up Neoprene bottle, and his own sweat to his practice.
You rolled your eyes, and that’s when you saw him.
The Adonis. The face of an angel. The sculpted build of a Michelangelo. This was way worse. It’s one thing to embarrass yourself in front of random strangers, but another thing to embarrass yourself in front of the most beautiful man you’ve ever seen.
He wore a tight black tank and board shorts (fuck, was he also a surfer?) as he greeted the class, biceps bulging from the mat tucked underneath his arm.
“Morning! How’s everyone doing?” he smiled brightly.
With devastatingly dark eyes and a saccharine sweetness to his expression, his gaze landed on you and you felt your face heat up. It’s mid-50s temperature in New York this morning, and you didn’t dress warm enough, but suddenly you’re on fire and have the urge to take off more clothes.
The slightest twinkle sparked in his eyes as they landed on you. He bit his lip, taking you in. (Fuck, did he really just do that? Is there something on my face? Do I have a tit showing?)
“Are you my new student?” he grinned, something seductive and—excited?—trapped in his throat.
Your mouth was dry, nodding in a fugue state.
Student? Like he’s the teacher? You’re going to need to bring an apple to him next time. Why is your crotch already sweating?
“My name’s Peter, it’s good to have you join us,” he says, his deep voice pouring over you like honey.
Why is he staring at you like that?
“Today’s a great day to start, we’re going to take each position very slow,” he added.
Is he serious right now?
“Just try to relax,” he says with a smirk. “I’ll take good care of you.”
You’re breathing heavy again, you notice.
And Peter keeps his promise, guiding the class through gentle stretches and poses. You keep your eyes glued to his form. For science.
Muscles flexing and a light sheen sweat forming on his face.
His eyes find you more than anyone else in the group. He starts traveling through the group when he’s convinced they’ve got the sequence down. He’s a great teacher.
At some point, midway through your 3rd downward dog, you notice that he’s glided to your side. You hadn’t even seen him coming, your eyes fixed on the blades of grass in front of your face, when you feel two large hands gently press around your pelvic crest.
Your heart stutters the second he touches you, and the butterflies in your stomach carry the wind from your lungs.
“Just like this,” Peter whispers, only loud enough for you to hear, as he guides your hips back into a more pointed position. “You’re doing so well.” You notice him line up your hips with his, and you swear he could lift you up by your pelvis with just the strength of his fingers.
You love downward dog. You love anything with dogs. Doggy style, all the way. Every time.
And with his help, goddamn it, the stretch is satisfying. You feel your spine start to decompress. Air fills your lungs in short measured breaths. His hands remain on you, encompassing your hips and the small of your back, pulling you into a delicious pose.
“Right there. Does that feel good?” he coos.
This mother Hubbard.
You moan. And then clear your throat. “Yeah,” you cough, trying to recover.
You can’t see his face but you can feel the body heat reverberating from him. And you can hear that cocky grin in his voice as he whispers back. “Good girl.”
Somehow, you survived. It was at the end of the class, when everyone else bolted and you were struggling to roll up your mat and ignore just how SWEATY your crotch was, when Peter kneeled down in front of you to help you. You gaped at his long fingers, curling the rubber into a neat cylinder.
“So how was it? I hope we didn’t go too hard on you.” His voice was like warm syrup. His eyes were dark chocolate pools. His lips looked like sugar-coated cherries.
He was bad for your health, without a doubt.
“No, um, it-it was g-good,” you shyly replied. “I’m just a little rusty.”
“Well, we can work on that,” he gazed at you with a lazy half smile. It was clear he found your timidness amusing. Appetizing, even. “See you next week?”
“Yes,” you blurted out, without hesitation. “Thank you. Thank you, Master.”
Your eyes went wide, locked on his. The word drifted into the atmosphere, a balloon swept away, never to return. He quirked a brow upward.
Your face turned crimson. “Teacher,” you stuttered “Teach— Guru? I… I don’t know why I said that.”
He licked his lips as he stared at yours, unabashed and unafraid.
“We can work on that, too.”

They Said You Were Gone | Arthur Shelby x Reader
Tumblr media
Request: no - written as a celebration for me hitting 500 followers
Pairing: Arthur Shelby x reader
Summary: (Y/N)'s told that her fiancé, Arthur Shelby, is dead. Hell, she even attended his funeral. So she was a little bit confused when he showed up at their home one night.
Warnings: language, violence (typical to series), mentions of death, spoilers for season 4
Word Count: 2333
A/N: So I decided to pick one of my prompts and join in on my celebration as my little thank you for 500 Followers (I noticed that I just hit 600 Followers the other day, which I already have something planned for). I hope you enjoy! :)
———
Arthur had been gone from his seat for a long time. The other ladies that (Y/N) was sitting with didn't care to notice, but she had been unable to pull her eyes from where Tommy was sitting next to an empty chair for some time now. Something didn't feel right. There was something about the energy in the crowded room of people watching the boxing match that was off. But (Y/N) couldn't quite put her finger on what it was.
She then watched as Tommy stood from his seat and exited the arena, taking the same path that Arthur had. This made (Y/N) calm down slightly because she just had that feeling that Tommy was going to look for her fiancé.
Some more time passed, and Johnny Dogs came over to the women. (Y/N) perked up, thinking that she'd be getting some information about Arthur's whereabouts. But instead, Johnny made his way to Polly and whispered something into her ear. An unreadable expression formed on the older woman's face as she slowly stood up and exited the row of chairs with Johnny Dogs. That left (Y/N) sitting with Lizzie Stark, who was still too engrossed in the fight to notice that the woman sitting to her right was having an internal crisis.
(Y/N) tried to focus on the fight going on, but she couldn't get the sinking feeling to leave her. Something was wrong. It had to be. The crowd around her went wild as Bonnie was declared the winner of the fight, and the pandemonium continued until Tommy Shelby made his way onto the stage. In one swift movement, he pulled his revolver out from under his coat and fired it three times up into the air. Cheers were replaced with screams and gasps as the room fell silent.
"My brother is dead," was all (Y/N) heard him say before his voice and the shocked reactions of the crowd around her were replaced by a high-pitched, ringing noise. Things seemed to go in slow motion. Lizzie was hugging onto her within seconds, knowing the pain that the other woman must've been feeling. Then Polly was by her side as she tried to usher the two other women out of the row and into the lobby of the event hall. (Y/N) didn't even realize that she was crying until she felt the tears rolling down her cheeks.
"I have to see him, Pol," (Y/N) choked out as the three women came to a stop in a quiet corner of the lobby area.
"You shouldn't. It's not a good sight," Polly advised against it, a solemn look on her face as she shook her head.
"He's my fiancé. I need to see him!" (Y/N) insisted, not taking no for an answer.
"Tommy probably had the guys take him away. He wouldn't want to leave him laying around for too long," Lizzie tried to add some sense into the conversation.
"He can't be dead," (Y/N) sobbed, hiding her face with her hands as she fell into Lizzie's embrace, "he's not dead," she repeated, hoping that it would become true with the more that she said it. Nobody said anything back to her. They let her react in the way that felt natural to her. Because Arthur Shelby had been killed, and there was no way that anyone, or any amount of words, could reverse that.
——
A black veil covered (Y/N)'s face as she stood in the windy field with the rest of the Shelby family.
A wagon containing Arthur's body and some of his possessions stood in the middle of the open field. Tommy and Polly had told her that she should keep some of the things that used to be his; that she would want to hold onto them. They would help her keep his memory alive. So she gave them his lucky pocket watch, the one he wasn't wearing the night he died, a few of his rings, and a picture of the two of them that was taken the night that he asked her to marry him.
She remembered that day like it was yesterday. He took her to the pictures and sat through a show that she knew he would consider to be awful, but he did it with a smile on his face and his hand in hers. He then took her out to dinner, at the same place where they ate together for the very first time. It was there that he dropped to his knee and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. They had decided that they'd wait a little bit before having the wedding. Neither of them wanted to rush into it. They were simply enjoying their time living together. Now she was standing at his funeral.
She kept her gaze focused on the ground as Jeremiah said some final words before he and Tommy stepped forward to light a match and throw it onto the logs placed below the wagon. The gas-soaked wood went up in flames quickly, and soon enough, the wagon itself was burning. (Y/N) couldn't hold in her sobs as she watched her life burn to the ground. Ada came to her side and wrapped her in a hug, but it didn't do much in consoling her.
"(Y/N)..." Tommy started as he and Lizzie came over to where she and Ada were standing. At this point, her sobs had reduced to sniffles because she didn't really have much left anymore. "(Y/N), we're sorry it had to happen like this," he tried his best to offer her his condolences. "You...you'll still get his share of the company to make sure that you are able to live comfortably on your own."
She wanted nothing of it. "No, Tommy. I don't want your money. All I had was your brother, and this stupid fucking feud took him from me! If I don't see another member of the Shelby family until the day that I am on my deathbed, that would still be a day too early!" her pained words came out as screams mixed with cries, and she ended her statement by turning from the self-proclaimed leader of the family to leave the vicinity.
She made her way back to her home in Small Heath. The home that was only supposed to be temporary. Where she and Arthur were supposed to stay until this shit blew over, and then they would be able to head out to the country again. Now she'd be going back alone. She wasn't sure if she could even do that.
——
(Y/N) couldn't tell how many days had passed since the funeral. She'd been locked in her house since she returned from the desolate field. Polly, Lizzie, and Ada had been around to check on her, but (Y/N) never let them into her home. They simply asked their questions from the other side of the door and were met with silence. (Y/N) didn't want to speak to them. She didn't want to do anything. She spent most of her time sitting on the chair in front of the fireplace. The only times she moved was to eat and use the bathroom. It felt like she was a shell of the person that she used to be. And she'd get terrible reminders of how her life was just a few weeks ago when she'd look up to the mantle to see pictures of her and Arthur. She just couldn't bear to take them down though. He still meant so much to her.
It had gotten dark now, but (Y/N) had no intention of going to bed. Her night would be just like the rest: her sitting on the couch until the sun came up. Sometimes she slept. Sometimes she just stared at the fire. She had a feeling that the latter would happen tonight. She'd been feeling jittery all day for no apparent reason. It was like she needed to cry, but she couldn't get any tears to come out. So she sat on the couch in a constant state of anxiety, knowing full well that it wasn't good for her, but at the same time not having enough control of the situation to stop it.
The thought that was traveling through her mind for most of the night was what she would do next. She couldn't stay in Small Heath. It wasn't home for her. She'd met Arthur in London, where she had been living for several years. She also couldn't bear to go back to her and Arthur's country home. Too many good memories were tied up into that house; memories that she couldn't face alone. So she'd go back to London, maybe. Or go to a new city entirely. Maybe she'd even leave the country...travel to the United States, or Ireland. She just needed to find a way to start again. To leave all of the pain behind before it really started to hurt her.
She was so deep in thought that she didn't hear the door to the house open, or the person who entered through it walk over to her. In fact, she didn't know that someone else was in the room until they put their hand on her shoulder. "Have you been awake all night?" the voice that (Y/N) thought she'd never be able to hear again asked. In a second, her head snapped to the side and she was met with Arthur, standing next to her with his physical hand on her shoulder. She had to have been dreaming. He was dead...right?
"I'm dreaming right now, aren't I?" she decided to ask outright before she got her hopes up. There was no way he was actually standing in front of her right now.
"You're not dreaming, love. Although you look like you really need some sleep," he told her, his hand squeezing her shoulder slightly.
That was all she needed to spring into action. She literally jumped up onto the couch and over the arm of it to wrap her arms around Arthur's neck and hug him tightly. Arthur responded by wrapping his arms around her frame so that he'd be able to hold her tight against his body. (Y/N) was sobbing into the material of his suit jacket, although the tears rolling down her cheeks now were from her happiness.
"I thought you were dead, Arthur. They told me that you were dead. They said that you were gone," she cried as she clung to him like her life depended on it. She was never letting him go again.
"I'm not dead, darling. They needed to make the Changretta's think that they'd killed me...that the vendetta would be finished," Arthur explained as he kissed her temple, "the vendetta is finished now. Luca Changretta's dead. I fired the bullet that killed him."
"I'm so happy you're alive," she said as she finally dropped down to her feet, her hands going up to hold onto his face as they looked into each other's eyes. "Tommy and Polly they...they made me believe that you were dead. I was so fucking mad at them because they didn't even let me see you. I'm still mad at them for not telling me even after it happened," she said as she caressed his face. It was like she needed to have her hands on him because touching him helped to confirm his realness.
"You've taken off your ring," Arthur observed then as he took her hands into his, "have you already met another man?" he asked, the grin pulling up the left corner of his lips showing that he was joking.
"No, I haven't," (Y/N) shook her head, "I just couldn't bear to look at it anymore. It reminded me too much of you," she said, taking one hand out of his so that she could wipe the tears from her eyes. "I can't believe that this happened. That it took so long for you to come back. You scared the shit out of me, Arthur!" she exclaimed then as she smacked him on the chest. Arthur was quick and grabbed hold of her hands before she could smack him anymore, holding them tight against his chest.
"I'm sorry that I had to do that, (Y/N). I won't let anything of the sort happen again, alright?" he promised her, his eyes locked onto hers. "And I still want to marry you...that is if you still want to marry me."
"Of course I still want to marry you, you bastard," she smiled through her tears as she pulled him into another hug.
"We should do it tomorrow. Not waste another day. I'll get Jeremiah to officiate it," Arthur came up with a plan then, making (Y/N) pull back to look at him with shock on her features.
"You'd want to?" she asked in a whisper.
"Yes. I don't want another day to go by where I'm not married to you, (Y/N)," he told her.
"Let's get married tomorrow then," she grinned as he took her face into his hands and kissed her passionately. "I love you, Arthur," she said as they pulled away.
"I love you, (Y/N)," he repeated the sentiment with a smile on his face, pulling her into another embrace. "We should probably get some sleep. Our wedding's going to be in a couple hours," he stated after they'd been embracing for a few minutes. It must've been at least four or five in the morning at that point.
"We should," (Y/N) agreed with a smile before she let him lead them up the steps and to their bedroom. Just moments ago, (Y/N) thought that Arthur was dead. Now, he was alive and back by her side. Better yet, in a few hours, they'd be getting married.

After 604 Years, White Storks are Nesting in Britain Again
Despite their 600-year absence, white storks have remained an important symbol in folklore, children’s stories, on pub and hotel signs, and in family names and nicknames down the centuries.
As part of ongoing efforts to restore nature in the U.K., a project is bringing beloved white storks back to the British countryside.

A female white stork greets her mate as he brings nesting material to the top of an oak tree at Knepp Estate, in southeastern England. This year, white storks at Knepp became the first of their kind known to have bred in Britain since 1414.
Tumblr media
Britain's White Stork Project, which aims to establish 50 breeding pairs by 2030, is part of a wider effort to restore nature.
KNEPP ESTATE, ENGLAND — High in an oak tree in the county of West Sussex, in southeastern England, a pair of free-flying white storks hatched three chicks. It was May 6, 2020, a landmark moment: It had been 604 years since the previous written record of white storks breeding anywhere in Britain. Two weeks after those first chicks emerged at Knepp Estate, another pair of storks, in another shaggy nest of sticks in a nearby oak, hatched three more.
“This achievement is beyond thrilling. We dreamed of this moment, and now the storks have done it—we have British-born chicks again!” says Tim Mackrill, a reintroduction expert with the White Stork Project. Launched in 2016, the project aims to establish 50 breeding pairs of white storks in southern Britain by 2030.
More than three feet tall, with snow-white bodies, black wings spanning seven feet, and long, red legs, white storks often nest on roofs in towns and villages across Europe, where they’re much loved. As spring migrants from wintering grounds in Kenya and Uganda and as far south as South Africa, they’re associated with good luck and rebirth—hence the fairy tale of white storks delivering new-born babies in slings from their beaks. The joyful bill-clattering of a courting pair atop their nest—a resonant knocking made by the rapid opening and closing of their beak, with head thrown back to amplify the sound through their throat pouch—associates white storks with marital tenderness.
No one knows for certain why storks disappeared from Britain, though their appearance on the menus of medieval banquets suggests that they may simply have been targeted for food. Despite their 600-year absence, however, white storks have remained an important symbol, featuring in folklore, children’s stories and illuminated manuscripts, on pub and hotel signs, and in family names and nicknames down the centuries. The White Stork Project hopes that excitement about the return of these charismatic birds will spark greater public interest in nature recovery in the U.K. and, perhaps, pave the way for more species reintroductions.
In recent months, the newcomers at Knepp indeed have been a cause for celebration—a distraction from the gloomy statistics of COVID-19 and a focus of public empathy, their actions even seeming to mirror those of humans under lockdown. At the end of March as people hunkered at home, the white storks began incubating their eggs. In mid-May with travel restrictions to nature areas in the U.K.lifted, the two sets of eggs hatched, allowing hundreds of visitors to see the chicks for themselves.
In the past few days, the first set of chicks have fledged the nest, flying down to the ground to feed on grasshoppers under the watchful eye of their parents and roosting in nearby trees at night. During the coming weeks, just as airline flights begin opening up and people take to the skies once more, the adventurous young storks will fly farther afield, perhaps even following their parents and popping over to Europe for a spell.
Although recent decades have been hard on white storks in Europe, they aren’t endangered. Draining of wetlands, habitat for amphibians and small fish the birds eat, and pesticide-driven absences of insects that supplement their diet, combined with fatalities from collisions with power lines, have led to declines in many parts of Europe. These losses in part have been offset by reintroductions in France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland, and Sweden.
Emblems of a Wider Movement
In the U.K.—one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, ranked 189th out of 218 countries, according to a Biodiversity Intactness Index run by the Predicts project—more than two-fifths of mammals, insects, birds, and other wildlife have seen significant declines since the 1970s. White storks are emblematic of a wider movement to repair nature in the country, of which Knepp Estate—run by my husband, Charlie Burrell, and me—is a pioneer.
To kickstart natural processes, in 2000 we began rewilding our 3,500 acres of depleted, loss-making farmland. This hinged on restoring the river, ponds, and wetlands, allowing thorny scrub and trees to regenerate, and introducing free-roaming herbivores such as old English longhorn cattle, Exmoor ponies, and Tamworth pigs as proxies of extinct aurochs, tarpans, and wild boars. Then we stood back and allowed nature to take over.
By browsing, rootling, trampling, wallowing, and dispersing seeds in their dung, these animals have created complex, novel ecosystems, swiftly and with astonishing results. Knepp is now a breeding hot spot for endangered nightingales, turtle doves, and purple emperor butterflies. It’s home to all five species of owls In the U.K. and 13 of the 18 bat species. More than 1,600 insect species have been recorded, many of them nationally rare. All these creatures have found haven at Knepp on their own, attracted by emerging habitats and food resources.
The white storks, however, have needed help to re-establish themselves. Every year, 20 or so of the birds venture to England from Europe, but finding no other storks nesting here, they fly on. Like herons and egrets, white storks nest in colonies for safety in numbers, social learning, and ease of finding a replacement should a mate die. Without this group reassurance, they’re unlikely to attempt to breed.
European reintroduction projects have pioneered a way of mimicking a colony by raising white storks in large pens in open countryside, using non-flying rescue birds and captive-bred birds with clipped wings, to attract wild storks. Eventually, wild birds breed with the captive storks, and their offspring migrate, returning loyally to their natal site. (Read about the resurgance of white storks in France.)
In 2016, the government-approved White Stork Project chose Knepp as its starter site. The project is a partnership among three private landowners and the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, an international charity founded by writer Gerald Durrell to save species from extinction; the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation, experts in bird reintroductions across Europe; and Cotswold Wildlife Park, a privately owned zoo in Oxfordshire. Knepp’s biodiverse wetlands and grasslands and open-grown trees for nesting are perfect habitat for storks. (Coincidentally, the name of the village of Storrington, just nine miles from Knepp, is derived from Estorchestone, meaning Abode of the Storks in Saxon English. The village sign features two white storks.) Two other locations—Wadhurst Park Estate, in East Sussex, and Wintershall Estate, in Surrey—were identified for establishing supplementary release pens the following year.
Knepp welcomed the first cohort of 20 juvenile storks donated from Warsaw Zoo, in Poland, into its six-acre pen in December 2016. With them were four non-flying Polish wild adults—birds injured in road accidents or by power-lines—to help instill natural social behavior in the juveniles. This replicates successful reintroductions in Sweden and Alsace, in France, where a breeding program begun in 1976 has seen white stork numbers grow from fewer than 10 mating pairs to more than 600 today.
One of the nesting females at Knepp, a particularly bold five-year-old from the first set of Polish imports, flew to France in 2018, where she spent a year with wild birds before returning to Knepp to pair up with one of the storks in her pen. (We know this because of reported sightings identifying the conspicuous ring-tag on her leg.) Another GPS-tagged juvenile raised at Knepp migrated to Rabat, Morocco, last year and is now in Spain. The male of the other nesting pair is a wild bird, one of several already attracted by the presence of the new colony.
Native or Not?
Not everyone in the U.K. embraces the White Stork Project. Opponents argue that historical evidence for white storks in Britain is slim and that they shouldn’t be considered a native species. Alfred Newton in A Dictionary of Birds, published in 1896, thought the white stork “had never been a native or even inhabitant of this country.”
Moreover, critics say, for this “new” species to attain “native” status, the birds should form colonies on their own, without human involvement. They point to the spontaneous recent arrivals in southeastern England of little egrets and great white egrets. “I would rather…allow natural colonization of our birdlife,” says Lizzie Bruce, director of British Birds magazine. To her, the white stork effort “feels more like a vanity project, especially as the species is of least concern” for conservation triage.
Birders echo that sentiment on social media, saying it would be better to focus not on a flamboyant species that isn’t endangered but on birds, such as the tree sparrow, that are struggling to survive but have less obvious appeal. Some conservationists who worry about the effects white storks might have on habitats or prey species such as insects and amphibians have called for environmental impact studies. This seems an impossible challenge, given the potential extent of the birds’ feeding range in southeastern England, the relatively small number of storks involved, and the variety of their food sources, including earthworms.
None of these criticisms trouble Ian Newton, a former visiting professor of ornithology at the University of Oxford and former senior ornithologist at the Natural Environment Research Council, the U.K.’s leading public funder of environmental science. (Newton is not affiliated with the White Stork Project.) The white stork, he says, is represented in bone remains at the Bronze Age site of Jarlshof, in Shetland; the Iron Age site of Dragonby, in Lincolnshire; the Roman site of Silchester, in Hampshire; and the Saxon site at Westminster Abbey, in London—all from long before the previous written record, in 1416, of white storks nesting in Britain.
“If we restrict ourselves to reintroducing species well-recorded in the historical record, we would exclude from consideration all those species which disappeared earlier but for which Britain still offers suitable habitat,” such as Dalmatian pelicans, night herons, and eagle owls, Newton says. Reintroductions, to his mind, offer not only the joy of seeing lost species return but also great potential for conservation.
“Generally speaking, the more widespread a species within its natural range, the more abundant and secure it is in the longer term,” Newton says, adding that reintroductions of charismatic species attract “an enormous amount of interest and support from the general public. This can benefit local economies and attract money into conservation that would otherwise be spent on other activities.” Further, the storks themselves may bolster other species. In Europe, their gigantic, shaggy nests provide nesting habitats for numerous birds such as starlings and house and tree sparrows.
Knepp’s white storks have already become something of a media phenomenon, with extensive coverage domestically but also by French and Polish TV. More than 2,500 visitors have seen the chicks since COVID-19 restrictions were relaxed, and 20 miles away, a gigantic mural on the city of Brighton’s busy North Road depicts white storks flying in to feed their chicks. The mural, expressing a heightened appreciation for both clean air and nature under lockdown, exhorts us to Let Nature Breathe—a suggestion, perhaps, that the U.K.’s magnificent white storks indeed are heralding new beginnings.
— Editor's note: This story was corrected on July 17, 2020, to say white storks had been gone from Britain for 604 years and that the juvenile that migrated to Morocco in 2019 is now in Spain.

Ok, so my burned out new mommy brain can only think of one recommendation because it’s the definition of grumpy and sunshine.
Read Here Comes the Sun from @withahappyrefrain if you haven’t already. I’m obsessed with this fic and I can’t wait for the final part to drop along with my panties.
Anyone else have any other recs for this trope?

Ms. Frizzle Made The March For Science Protests Magical
Scientists, professors, researchers and concerned citizens gathered by the thousands on Saturday in honor of Earth Day and in solidarity with the nationwide March for Science protests.
One pro-science celebrity, however, stood out from the crowds. Like magic, she made an appearance at several of the 600 marches that took place across the country. She probably traveled there on a big yellow bus.
Have you met Ms. Frizzle?
"We use our knowledge of science to preserve and protect our cultural heritage." - Tessa DePersio, an MS in art conservation http://pic.twitter.com/NuS5YJAgTf

More than a dozen people rallied on Saturday as the quirky redheaded science teacher from the popular TV series, “The Magic School Bus.”
Devoted protesters fashioned their best Ms. Frizzle costumes with galactic dresses, bright curly wigs and in some cases, with Lizzy the Lizard by their side. Other protesters paid homage to the elementary school teacher by depicting her as Lady Liberty.

The March for Science protest was held nationwide to show President Donald Trump that science deserves a seat at the table in the White House.
So far in 2017, the Trump administration has made moves that put science and research on the back burner ― especially when it comes to climate change. Not only did Trump once call climate change a hoax, he put Scott Pruitt, a man who doesn’t believe humans are the primary cause of climate change, in charge of the Environmental Protection Agency. Trump has also slashed regulations that protect U.S. waterways from coal mining operations, rolled back standards on car pollution and even removed the word “science” from the EPA’s office of Science and Technology mission statement.
And that’s not all the damage Trump has done in the name of environmental policy. (You can find all of that here.)
It makes one wish that the real Ms. Frizzle would stop by the White House on her Magic School Bus to spark some scientific sense into the Trump administration.
Fortunately, the teacher’s substitutes were out in full force Saturday, even braving the rain in some cases to send the president a message. Like Ms. Frizzle would always say, “Take chances. Make mistakes. Get messy!”

Frizzle?
