Atypical friendships: Lisa-Niragi

Notes:  Okay, remember that in Lisa’s game out of all the players she could’ve chosen to be the ONLY person who’d die after it ended, she chose a seven-year old kid. Tell me that’s not something Niragi would do. Also, creating a game where she’d have her own team of people to command? Also something I’d see Niragi doing. These two would be best friends fr. I’m tagging @niragi-of-bitches as Niragi so they can tell me how many I got right!

If you want to see the other parts of ‘atypical friendships’, look under this tag in my blog. So far, I’ve got Kuina-Kuzuryuu, Chishiya-Usagi, Ann-Aguni and Yaba-Mira. 

- If she’d been at the Beach the militants would’ve been 10 times scarier, because Aguni might have been able to control Last Boss and Niragi, but he sure as hell wouldn’t have been able to control Lisa. She’d do whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted.

- More often than not, this means toying with people. This girl already knew who Arisu was BEFORE he appeared in her game, so you bet she knows absolutely every piece of gossip circulating the Beach, and uses it to break friendships and relationships alike just because she’s bored. 

-Niragi deeply admires her, but he would never say it out loud. The most he’d say is: ‘Your skill set is being wasted on these idiots. If you and I joined forces…’ And she’d reply: ‘Then my skillset would be wasted on another idiot’

-The pure definition of competitiveness. They always have to be one-upping each other. Remember the game where for every animal you killed you got a certain amount of points? They were LIVING it. Niragi ended up winning but Lisa was unphased. ‘I won by a twenty point margin’. ‘And with a gun! How cute of you’

-They’d tear up the dance floor at the Beach’s nightclub. The only day the residents of the Beach know peace are the days where they’re off in a game. The rest of the nights they’re the first to arrive and the last to leave, and there’s always an incident for which they’re directly to blame. Lisa will never let Niragi and Last Boss forget that she can pull more girls than both of them combined.

-Lisa taught Niragi how to do his eyeliner, after she did it on him one night while they were both drunk and Niragi decided it looked badass.

 -Even though they continually tease each other, they would NEVER underestimate the other. Lisa knows Niragi is actually pretty smart, and if they’re ever in a diamonds game together, she delegates the decision-making to him. If any other player makes a comment on how they think Niragi is wrong, Lisa immediately shuts them up with a fist to their face. She trusts Niragi’s skills enough to know he’ll find the solution. And he always does. 

-They would never judge each other. They know that, at their core, they want the same thing: freedom to do as they please. They both share that slight sadistic tinge, that desire to be above others and mess with them as they see fit (again, Lisa choosing THE KID AS THE ONLY PERSON WHO COULD DIE IN HER GAME). So, in a way, even if they’ve never said it out loud, they understand each other. 

-Imagine them spending lazy days together at the Beach, with Last Boss too. Lisa and Last Boss sparring while Niragi practices his aim with the rifle. Wolfing down the food at lunch and going to the pool to mess with whoever’s there over a few cocktails (Last Boss doesn’t like drinking, Lisa likes daiquiris, and Niragi claims he doesn’t drink ‘girly drinks’ and orders a Bloody Mary even as he enviously eyes Lisa’s daiquiri and takes a few sips when she isn’t looking). Lisa laughing her ass off every time Last Boss and Niragi are pulled out of the fun because they have yet another executive meeting to attend and she can continue lounging by the pool. Crazy nights they only ever end up remembering half of, blurry scenes of someone saying ‘Lisa’s on the first floor and she’s going to jump to the pool!’ And Niragi and Last Boss simultaneously yelling ‘DO A BACKFLIP’ (she does two and they’re howling and cheering the entire time). The three of them feeling like they’re unstoppable together, without knowing one of them holds a terrible secret.

-Unlike Kuzuryuu and Mira, Lisa would stay during the Ten of Hearts, helping with the massacre, and leave only after it’s finished. She’d wait at first, watching all the chaos spread, and then join in the fun. 

-Lisa runs to Last Boss but she’s unable to save him after the Ten of Hearts. However, she does manage to pull Niragi out of the Beach before the fire consumes him. She drops him somewhere safe before she has to leave with Mira and Kuzuryuu to prepare for the second stage.

-After Niragi wakes up alone somewhere far from the Beach, he can more or less piece in his head what happened to get him there. And after Mira shows she’s one of the game masters, he can guess where Lisa is too. It... affects him. It’s not something he simply shrugs off. 

-He doesn’t go to the Queen of Spades because he’s in no state to take out Lisa, and frankly, even if he doesn’t want to admit it, he doesn’t want to either. On the other hand, Lisa took into account that Niragi could decide to try out her game, and, well. That might’ve influenced her decision to make her game have teams. They could’ve been on the same side one last time, chasing down others like they were still at the Beach messing with people by the pool.

1. KEIICHI KUZURYUU (K♢) is THE DODO

Note: There's a Hayatou Doudou in the manga but his role in it is based on Alice.

Kuzuryu, the rare lawyer who upheld equality in life and games, is The Dodo, the extinct bird who led a caucus-race of fair opportunities.

Character origin: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865)

2. GINJI KYUUMA (K♧) is THE GRYPHON

Kyuma, the philosophical artist whose nudity shocked Arisu & co., is The Gryphon, the wise singing mythical creature whose half-lion, half-eagle appearance amazed Alice.

Character origin: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865)

3. MIRA KANOU (Q♥) is THE QUEEN OF HEARTS

Mira, the neuroscientist- psychiatrist who wanted to save Arisu through croquet mind games, is the Queen of Hearts, who invited Alice to croquet and never really executed anyone.

Character origin: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and a nursery rhyme (1782)

4. ISAO SHIRABI (K♤) IS THE RED KNIGHT

Shirabi, the merciless mercenary who battled Aguni and targeted Arisu & co., is The Red Knight who battled The White Knight and targeted Alice on the chess battlefield.

Character origin: Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There (1871)

5. LISA (Q♤) is THE RED QUEEN

Note: In the Alice books, the Red Queen and The Queen of Hearts are two different characters.

Lisa, the athletic woman who pursued Arisu in a game called Checkmate, is The Red Queen, the sprinter queen who wanted Alice on her side in the Looking-Glass chess battlefield.

6. ENJI MATSUSHITA (J♥) is THE KNAVE OF HEARTS

Matsushita, the hypnotist who cheated at his own game through cookies, is The Knave of Hearts, who conspired with unknown persons to steal The Queen's jam tart.

Character origin: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and a nursery rhyme (1782)

7. AMON KOMOYAMA (J♢) is HUMPTY DUMPTY

Komoyama, the balding representative of gambling syndicate who boasted his skills and got killed, is Humpty Dumpty, the egg-like creature (symbol of a fallen monarch) who thought that it was clever and fell to its death.

Character origin: Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There (1871) and a nursery rhyme (1870)

an: it's been a while (2 years i presume) that i've written for a male reader. i've also rushed this one so apologies if the outcome isn't so good!

For USAGI, it doesn't matter to her and him spend valentines day indoors. She isn't opposed to the idea at all! But since the weatherman forecasted that a strong rain will be coming up sometime at noon and will last until nighttime, it was best decided to stay and celebrate the day of hearts indoors.

She'd be awake first, making you a full breakfast in bed with a little vase; inside is a single rose to complete the look. And as the day (and rain) progresses, Usagi would lay down on top of his chest, tucked underneath a warm blanket while a romcom or Studio Ghibli movie play on the screen. Then later at night, she'd make a full dinner to be served with a bottle of wine; ending the day with the two of them drinking in the dining table and having chocolates.

Anything you want to do for the day? Go to an aquarium? Visit an art gallery? Make homemade chocolates at home? Whatever your heart desires, KUINA is all up for it!

She'd gotten you a little trinket that reminded her of you, showing you the other pair of the trinket she got.

"I got us the matching one!" She'd happily gush, connecting to two hands that forms a heart. "It's cute, right?"

You're into video games? Kuina would be sitting by your side, getting competitive over each other while playing RPG games. Or teaming up together to beat other teams and get that promotional rank up.

You want to see that one movie in theaters? Kuina would offer to get the snacks so that less time is being eaten and you two can enter the cinema house with ease.

All the while heading home, the two of you would be dancing under the street lights just like in the movies.

MIRA has been waiting for this day ever since the two of you got together. Although she very much detests how a single person only has two hands. Because in one hand, she's holding onto the ribbon wrapped neatly around the cake box while the other is holding onto the straps of the floating balloons, having a firm grip around it and making sure not a single balloon float up and away.

She still has to get a bottle of wine and get you that one gift you've been meaning to get for weeks (she's going to beat you to it). But when Mira has everything she needs, she'll happily jog to your place with a big smile on her face. Ready to spend the whole day with you.

"You can do it, love!" LISA cheers for you, a big smile painted on her face as she pumps her hands.

Prior to leaving the house, Lisa promised that she'd give you a clue on where the two of you will be going but halfway through, proceeded to have her lips shut instead, not wanting to give anything away anymore.

But what truly await you two is a picnic set up at the top of the hill that she prepared at the crack of dawn. When she learned of how you've never experienced going on a picnic before, she made it her goal to make your first memory a memorable one.

Okay imo? For cards against humanity, to do well you (imo) need 2 things: current knowledge of pop culture/latest memes, and to understand your audience. And that second bit is why I think it's a hearts game. Because you can know pop culture and memes and be considered funny, but you need your jokes to land and so in order for your cards to land you need to know your audience since not every card will get the judge for the round laughing. Which is also why I think Mira would be a dark horse in playing, I think she'd come out of nowhere with 1 hit KO choices

mira would absolutely come out the gate swinging. but i do also agree with @jeffersonhairpie that her answers will sometimes be so insane that people have no idea what the hell she's talking about. THAT BEING SAID

Can I ask, why don't you like chishiya's character arc in the show? I have seen you being against it. May I ask why?

I have my problems with his arc too. Like how they never truly showed him as a bad person and scene with his parent was cut off too. They glossed over his arc in hope that people can easily sympathize with home but that was something I could already do in the manga.

nice question. now lets see if i can provide a nice answer.

it’s pretty simple really: it felt like an easy way to sympathise with a character. like bad, ooc fanfics. (not saying aib LA is bad.. im literally an aib based blog)

chishiya’s cold heart being a result of corruption in the med industry felt really ironic considering he wronged a patient in the manga. additionally, it didn’t make sense to me or some of the LA-only watchers who thought he would have some deep and profound reason to why he would sacrifice his peers without second thought.

to me, it felt like kuzuryuu’s story. and i quite liked the fact that manga chishiya and kuzuryuu had different backstories which made them clash in mindset but allowed them some insight on the other perspectives which is what gave them their development. this was also what made chishiya enjoy their game so much and want to do something out of character for once.

i honestly could go on but i just feel chishiya was completely rewritten as a character. his arc wasn’t as impactful to me as it was in the manga. but i should’ve seen it coming when they decided he was a hearts game specialist in the posters.

ofc i still adore how funny they made his character. its similar to manga!chishiya but has its own spin to it. its nice.

Honestly these are more like whining than arguments because they still haven't learnt to solve their problems like a proper adult so they just come whining to me whenever Kyuma or Enji or Lisa did something again.
