The first set in a while that actually looks A LOT better in person compared to the promo pics. LOVE IT.

I had an adventure to the Lego store today and I have to put it out there that this Rocket is genuinely not as scary as the promotional pictures make him look. In person, he's honestly quite adorable. I was tempted to get him, but you know how Lego is, it's expensive 😭
But just look at his lil face and look at his Baby Groot

I think it is about time that we as a society recognize that Rocket Raccoon is literally a master builder (Lego Movie Reference)

First attempt at the rocket raccoon mech lego set, in a style that was… supposed to… mimic skottie young’s rocket art. Gonna need to do a good few more passes to get better at matching the style.

Rocket Racoon mech set
Similar to the boba fett set the only reason this was purchased was because of my lack of a rocket Racoon minifigure
Tumblr media
Minifigure: 7/10
Pretty cool figure and once again the only redeeming quality if this set. Only thing I don't really like is the face shape but it's fairly accurate to Rocket so I can't really complain
Overall set: 2/10
Same reasons as the boba fett mech if it had moveable joints it would be a really good set but it is good for children so at least there's some benefit to the weird limbs

Official Trash Panda Lego Set
Alright, so we all know about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even people who don’t follow movies know about it. There’s no escape! Anyways, as a result of this, one of my favorite Marvel characters has become a household name and gotten a lot of merch, and my wife is wonderful and likes to get me presents, so this week, we’re looking at “Lego Rocket Mech Armor!”
Tumblr media
Rocket Raccoon’s comic backstory is a hell of a trip, so we’re just gonna do the barest skim of it. He’s a raccoon who, along with a ton of other animals, was enhanced to act as a caretaker for a planet used to house insane humans, basically a planet-sized sanitarium. He would eventually leave his planet, lose his memory, and become the angry, foul-mouthed rodent we all love from “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
I love Rocket in the movies. He absolutely delights me, and I also adore Legos, and, shockingly, I love robots. So the idea of a Lego Rocket Raccoon piloting a mech suit just scratches that special little spot in my heart and makes my brain release all the good happy chemicals.
Let’s start by talking about Rocket himself. This is honestly my favorite Rocket minifigure. I love his goggles and his “I am death incarnate with a gun” grin. It’s just so quintessentially the character. Until just recently, all the Rocket minifigures had grey fur, which is more realistic, but the brown fur this minifigure has feels so much more lively, which I really like. Rocket’s outfit is pretty straightforward. He’s got a tan jacket over an orange jumpsuit with a green shirt visible at the collar. It’s not too much, it’s pretty simple, and it works. The thing that really deals the deal for me, though, is the fact that this Rocket, unlike all the other ones, has no tail. Due to how the tail is made and attached on the minifigures that have one, it tends to get in the way of pegging them into the ground, takes up extra space, and makes it look like Rocket’s shirt’s too small and a bit of stomach’s sticking out. By losing the tail, this Rocket does away with all those issues.
Tumblr media
Now that Bucky’s made of Lego, he’ll have an even easier time stealing that arm.
The mech suit also looks really great, and it feels like an extension of Rocket’s outfit with the matching colors, which is really great. One arm ends in a cannon that shoots studs when you rotate it, and has more power than you’d expect, and the other arm has a mechanical raccoon hand. In fact, there are raccoon touches all over this thing, making it feel less like a real mech suit and more like Rocket’s own body with some upgrades, provided you overlook how small his head looks when he’s in the suit.
Tumblr media
Little rodent, big gun.
My second favorite detail, though (after the big-ass gun arm, of course), is the raccoon tail on the back of the mech suit. It feels like an extra bit of fun the designers had and adds a very nice visual touch to the whole thing.
Tumblr media
Face down, tail up in the air. So dignified.
In terms of articulation, Rocket has the basic Lego minifigure articulation, minus the leg articulation. Since he has the “small character” short legs, his legs don’t actually move. His mech suit, meanwhile, has pretty decent articulation. The waist rotates, the shoulders, feet, and legs are ball jointed, and the fingers can move. The chest opens up to reveal an empty space Rocket stands in. There’s no controls or anything inside the chest, but considering you close up the chest after standing Rocket in the suit, that’s not a problem. Unlike a lot of the earlier Lego Marvel mech suits, Rocket’s suit doesn’t have elbow or knee articulation, so that’s a little disappointing, but I can live with it. The suit also has decent balance, and the jointed feet make standing up the suit really easy. In addition to all that, the mech has adjustable boosters on its back. It is made of joy.
Tumblr media
Rocket makes sure to lay out his finest suit before formal events.
Other than the suit, Rocket has one other accessory: a gun (of course). It’s built from three pieces, and looks very impressive in Rocket’s hand. While he can’t hold it while in the suit, the suit’s gun arm has a clip that can hold the gun, which I really like.
Tumblr media
“Alright, you primitive brickheads, listen up! THIS is my BOOMSTICK!”
The set as a whole is really easy to build. My wife gave it to me about 30 minutes before we were expecting guests, and even with my really, really short attention span, I had the whole thing built. The lack of elbows and knees contribute a lot to the ease of construction.
Tumblr media
Sidearm.
The “Lego Rocket Mech Armor” is available at mass retail for about $15 and is aimed at kids and people who love awesome things. Do I recommend it? Absolutely. It’s a fun, quick build that results in a really fun toy with a massive gun. Definitely grab it now. This is JS signing off and wishing you Happy Toy Hunting!
