i have a very deep respect (and jealousy) for anyone who knows how music works. i have watched videos, read books, and even taken in-person classes, but glancing upon a partiture yields the same results in my brain as looking at biblically accurate angel. what the Fuck is a scale. how do you know which note(s) are which. like i genuinely love music and want to understand it and maybe even create it but after watching all the beginner's introductory courses i could find for free on the internet and still not understanding a single thing i'm starting to think it just may not be for me :(

Python Basics
This course introduces the basics of Python 3, including conditional execution and iteration as control structures, and strings and lists as data structures. You'll program an on-screen Turtle to draw pretty pictures. You'll also learn to draw reference diagrams as a way to reason about program executions, which will help to build up your debugging skills. The course has no prerequisites. It will cover Chapters 1-9 of the textbook "Fundamentals of Python Programming," which is the accompanying text (optional and free) for this course. The course is for you if you're a newcomer to Python programming, if you need a refresher on Python basics, or if you may have had some exposure to Python programming but want a more in-depth exposition and vocabulary for describing and reasoning about programs. This is the first of five courses in the Python 3 Programming Specialization.

I dont know if anyone noticed in the manga but in ROR, Apollo was known as a "an ordinary God who had nothing".
Chapter 82
Tumblr media
Who had nothing.
You're telling me that sunshine pink lovable boy Apollo was born DOMAINLESS ??
Cause what else would a "God who had nothing" mean other than being domainless ?
From the myths we know that :
When Athena came out from Zeus's head, she declared herself the Goddess of Wisdom and War
When Artemis was born she immediately aided her mother in the birth of Apollo, she was born as Goddess of Childbirth before she became Goddess of the Hunt.
And then we have ROR Apollo who was born basically useless, which is why his hard-working makes more impact now that I think about it.
Dude went from 0 a literal nobody to an Olympian with pure hard-work, he worked for his titles and powers. Do you know how much you need to be mentally strong for that ?
Cause you can't tell me he wasn't mocked in his early days !
I mean just look at what kids do in school, the teacher calls you up, you make a mistake then you become the target of mockery for a whole week or worse you become target for bullying the whole entire year (or even years if you stay at said school).
Apollo must have faced the same thing from Gods and instead of spiraling into depression he decided to ignore them and pursue his dream of becoming someone. (Of course we don't know if he got bullied but honestly I can't see it otherwise.)
Meanwhile Myth/PJO Apollo was born a God of Archery and 3 days old killed python then 3 years later became Olympian cause his daddy is Zeus ... and that's it ?
While ROR Apollo was born to be ... well just there, he had to learn Archery from scratch to become the god of it, he had to learn medicine from the bottom to the top to become the god of it, he trained day and night and it was thought pure hard-work that he became an Olympian not because his old man was Zeus, he is an Olympian because he deserves that seat.
And this is why I love the dude !

Hiya! My name is Izzy-Loa, and a Jr Web Developer and today, I thought it would be a great idea to just share my own personal coding journey! I have answered a lot of asks in the past about how I recommend other people to start their coding studies, what websites to learn from and roadmaps etc. But one question I kept having to repeat myself answering is the "Okay how did you get started?" - it is completely my fault not writing this down properly~! (I did actually)
Anyhoo, I'll just speed through my journey, sharing what I learnt at what times and what I'm currently doing now! ✨
Tumblr media
☆ Starting from Scratch
I started coding back in 2017 during the summer break when I was just 15 years old. At that time, I didn't even know what coding was! It was my dad who suggested that I learn HTML. I hesitated at first, thinking HTML was some "complex high-level programming language". Little did I know, it was just a markup language...
I started with HTML and then moved on to CSS during that summer. However, once school started in September, I set coding aside and forgot about it. The following year, 2018, I decided to give it another shot and relearned HTML and CSS. But again dropped it because of school work and upcoming exams!
Tumblr media
☆ The Turning Point
Fast forward to 2020, a year that marked a turning point!. I started creating websites using HTML and CSS. I briefly played with JavaScript but decided to focus on mastering HTML and CSS.
In January 2021, I made a significant decision. I dropped out of school due to personal reasons and decided to fully commit to programming, plus getting my first remote job (non-Tech). From there, I gradually delved into JavaScript a lot more and even dabbled in Python along the way. My learning process was on and off, but I was making progress! Around this time I learnt Git and GitHub!
Tumblr media
☆ The Apprenticeship
Around September/October time, I applied for an apprenticeship. My skill set included HTML, CSS, Python, and basic JavaScript. I got accepted and continued to learn Python, delving into C# and Java as well. It was a challenging but rewarding experience! Happily dropped Java towards the end!
At work, I also learned SQL, working with Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL. I even explored .NET Framework and ASP.NET. It was a lot to take in, but I embraced the learning process! The older developers at the workplace were super helpful and very experienced - felt as though they were happy to give me all their knowledge as best they could~!
Tumblr media
☆ Expanding My Knowledge
During my apprenticeship, around October 2022, I decided to further expand my skills. I enrolled in a front-end bootcamp, where I revisited HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I also learned jQuery, Node.js, npm, and even ventured into React. Though, due to not practising it enough, I forgotten React and Node.js~!
Tumblr media
☆ My Ongoing Journey
Currently, I'm continuing to explore Python and experimenting with Lua. I'm also revisiting JavaScript, jQuery, and recently, I've started working with SCSS (Sass) to streamline my CSS development - I highly recommend people in Web Development to learn SCSS!! I love it so much!
Looking ahead, my learning wishlist includes TypeScript, React, Vue.js, Angular, and C++. However, I'm not rushing into learning everything at once. I'm taking my time to absorb each language and framework thoroughly.
Tumblr media
In summary, it has been a continuous evolution, from HTML and CSS to SQL, .NET Framework, and various other languages and tools. I've faced challenges and taken LOTS of breaks, but each step has brought me closer to becoming a proficient developer. I want to be better! But slowly and in good time!
Hope this was somewhat helpful to other people and yeah, have a nice day/night!

A Beginner's Perspective on Coding... Again
It's odd. During the last years of Middle School and the the first years of High School, I was able to learn and understand the core concepts of computer programming. Sure, it wasn't text-based programming that I did (it was block-based, think of Scratch or MIT App Inventor), but from the lessons given to me during school were enough to have me understand the core concepts as well able to program a few small programs.
Now here I am in my early 20's. I'm turning 22 on the 21st, and between the end of High School and now, I haven't touched programming much. I did dabbled in HTML and CSS, but that's controversial to say HTML and CSS are programming. And in that time, I focused a lot on making static websites, but not on making them ever so dynamic.
It looks as though I forgot how to program, or at the very least, lost the understanding of computer programming concepts, like variables and conditions, in those four years. It could even been more, because I haven't programmed much since after the end of Freshman year in High School.
I have been distracted by so many things, from completing school, to going to college, to getting a job, and many more personal things, that I forgot all about programming. Sure, I did learn how to use Blender in that time, but that was meant to be a hobby, an interest. Not something that takes up a lot of my time. Yes, 3D modeling is a productive hobby, creating art on the computer that doesn't require a text prompt from a program, but man, my real passion is in programming.
I want to be able to create apps and video games. It's not about the money I could earn, but rather from the interest and idea behind it. To me, programming is a combination of literature, writing, math, and science. I was great in all those subjects in school, and to see those subjects be used, in combination with an electronic box that allows me to make stuff like being able to play back videos just from writing amazes me.
So now, here I am, learning again how to program. And from a perspective, it was frustrating at first, considering what I just said about being able to understand programming concepts. I wanted to write programs and games now, not learn all these new concepts again. It was very frustrating so much so, that for the entirety of last year, I wanted to learn to program and make a game in Godot, but I couldn't for the life of me because of my frustration of learning to program again as well as losing the understanding of core concepts. There were other reasons as well, but I feel that was the main reason as to not accomplishing the goal of releasing a game made in Godot for last year.
This year, I made it a goal again to learn Godot to create a game and release it, alongside learning JavaScript. But I'm taking it more seriously. I have set up a calendar with dates and times on when to learn Godot and JavaScript.
At first, it was hard to get into the habit of learning to program. For the first half of this month, I did not program anything at all, due to my attitude and motivation. But then, I did talked to some people in terms of my situation, and I have decided to take another approach. I've decided to take it nice and slow for learning to program as well as core computer programming concepts as well.
Perhaps after I finish the freeCodeCamp course on JavaScript as well as the GDQuest free beginner's guide course, I'll come up with ideas on what type of programs and games to make, deconstruct existing games and apps in terms of what they do and what they are to be able to get a better understanding and be able to recreate them in a programming language as well.
By the way, I've decided on Godot for its free and open source nature as well as it was made for game devs by game devs. I decided on JavaScript because I already know how to make websites, so learning JavaScript seems natural. With GDscript, it's similar to Python, so perhaps I will learn a bit of Python syntax as well in the near future, which will come in handy because I have a Raspberry Pi that I mainly use to host my website.
I hope the journey there will be just as sastifying as the destination, just like when I first started to use Blender...

Things are finally getting serious: Today is the day I will start my journey learning Python from scratch! I really want to improve my coding skills and get more confident. By now, I still often rely on the idea of others, looking at their code and often simply adapt code snippets which fit the present issue to „my solution“ but then couldn‘t replicate a single line without looking at it. I am very excited to change that now, starting to get a deeper understanding and hopefully earn more confidence as a future data scientist!

do you happen to know any site building tutorials to follow and learn from? been having a hard time finding a place to start with my own neocity but the free reign and customization of them interests me a lot :0c
ABSOLUTELY! I do want to stress one thing if HTML/CSS is something you're not familiar with: It's okay if your website doesn't look like the most creative, eye-popping thing in the world! I've seen sooooooo many people get so discouraged because their beginner websites don't look like the flashier websites you see on Neocities' front page (by people who've been coding for a Long Time, mind you!) and like!!! That's fine!!! The code of my own site was quite possibly the worst thing you've ever seen thrown together into one big CSS soup before I Literally Just Rewrote It Today, After A Year Of Having A Neocities. And so, with that being said:
As anyone on the internet might do, w3schools is the absolute first place I'd recommend to beginners! There are videos, it's mostly a text-based learning site with lots of exercises to test your knowledge. If you'd prefer videos:
My personal favorite guy on Youtube to learn coding things from is Giraffe Academy: Here's his full course on HTML! The video itself is about two hours—I skimmed through it and everything seems to be perfectly oriented towards beginners (I haven't watched it in its entirety, but I have seen his videos on C# and Python [programming languages, don't worry about it] and they did a lot to help explain certain things to me that I didn't know previously!).
BroCode's HTML in 1 hour and CSS in 1 hour are pretty good! His videos do include a little bit on how to implement some JavaScript here and there, but nothing major or terrifying.
Here's a playlist of HTML/CSS tutorials in bite-sized videos, too! Think about 10-25 minutes per video.
I will say that searching for YouTube videos on HTML/CSS will always sort of gear more towards what people in the professional sphere are looking for rather than what you'd see on Neocities.
As for Neocities-specific things (which may be the actual point of your ask! Might've misinterpreted the hell out of it oops):
sadgrl.online is perhaps the most known website on Neocities, largely because the website itself not only has a layout maker you're free to use if you want to make a website now but the thought of writing HTML/CSS from scratch terrifies you, but also HTML/CSS guides themselves! There's also a bunch of links you can use to help fluff up your site a bit, generate HTML code for you, or just fluff up your site in general.
The Melonland Project is also dedicated to providing website development tools and tutorials for beginners: here is its guide to making a website on Neocities! It also provides a link to learnlayout.com, which I'll link here as well—a website for helping you learn CSS layouts!
And, once you've got the hang of how CSS works but are still feeling unable to code it yourself (no ideas? just not feeling up to it? FUCK MAN DO I UNDERSTAND THAT) Eggramen has free CSS pages you can use, and all you have to do is write the HTML for it!
But I would always focus more on learning HTML first before any CSS—and then learning how to integrate CSS into HTML via inline styling (which those video tutorials do!) before worrying about any external stylesheets or whatever. HTML is the actual building block—CSS just makes it look pretty.
