Something weird is going on in Boruto... this chapter reminded me of the first meeting between Himawari and Daemon in chapter 77:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was never explained, now was it? Whatever Daemon felt at the time must be what that ten tails guy whose name I forgot is sensing now.
Tumblr media
But what are they sensing???
Tumblr media
...Could it be that Kurama's actually alive and somehow got transferred in to Himawari? I mean, I have no idea how that could've happened, but how else would anyone explain Himawari supposedly having tailed beast chakra inside of her?

Your nuclear power jinchūriki comparison made me picture Mito responding to Madara's attempted nuking of Konoha by just, eating the bomb Kirby style. Yoink my bomb now.
As much as Mito isn't really characterized, she absolutely has to be at least as insane as Tobirama. Nobody normal would go, "hey, what if I shoved this force of nature up my pussy"
And the whole "capture and distribute the rest of the jinchuuriki to maintain a balance of power" plan...I feel like this one had to be Mito's brainchild. Mito had to have been extensively involved to seal all of them; she almost certainly had to have approved, even with reluctance.
(Tbh as fucked up as capturing the bijuu was, it was a decent option for maintaining balance of power. Once it's been proven that you can capture bijuu as Mito did, every other country would have put their all into it. By controlling the distribution, Konoha knows [for a time] which bijuu is where and exactly what nuclear capabilities the other countries have, which is invaluable information.
The flex of controlling distribution and demanding payment is also a solid reminder of who's 'in charge'; it puts the other countries at a financial disadvantage and more importantly hampers their ability to immediately declare war on Konoha. If they'd gone out for free like Hashirama wanted I honestly think war would have come even sooner. The only other option, capturing the bijuu and keeping them for Konoha, would have united the entire world against them.)

Tailed Beasts n happy endings
Canonical HashiMada convo
If placing this on a timeline, kinda around the 4th war, Madara still an Otsutsuki. AU.
Madara: Originally, I wanted to leave the tailed beast be. Live their own lives, chillin, not interacting with humans.
Hashirama: Yeah, sure.. you are just missing a Nine-tailed sized point there.
Madara: Yeah. Kurama is a different story. But he still had his freedom and stuff. And then • someone • came up with the great idea to collect them all, which would not be a problem, having the tailed beasts somewhere in the Fire Country, but no!
Hashirama: I wanted equality, that’s all.
Madara: Naturally. But instead of having them for us, you just gave up on Konoha’s upper hand by giving them away, one tailed beast for each bigger hidden village. And from your oh so desired peace and friendship with the villages, it just caused greed and war. More presumably, three.
Hashirama: I just really love how you blame me for things that happened after my ‘death’
Madara: It doesn’t matter you were alive or not at the moment, you fucked up, not to mention the whole jinchuuriki thing! You fucking took away the freedom of the tailed beasts!
Hashirama:.. so that justifies your fourth Shinobi war, I see.
Madara: That wasn’t my intention.. anymore. After I came back to life, just wanted my ~other halves~ being with me again.
Hashirama: your what?
Madara: Tailed beasts are pure chakra. More presumably, the Otsutsuki kind, as for them being born from the Chakra fruit which is.. you know. Me being an ‘Otsutsuki’ now, having the same chakra as the Sage had and the beasts have.. I kinda feel them and stuff. So you know.. them being locked in a human and suffering, I felt that as well.
Hashirama: Wow, never thought about this - anyhow, what now?
Madara: I have more than enough of this world, so I guess I move a planet, with all of the tailed beasts, and live a peaceful life without humans.
Hashirama: .. Sure, you are an Otsutsuki god now. Well, good luck and stuff, I -
Madara: Yup.
Hashirama: What?
Madara: You can come. Didn’t you want to ask that?
Hashirama: Ehm.. well.. yeah,
Madara: I know. Let’s just go and leave all this behind for a while.
Hashirama: Happy ending?
Madara: We deserve that shit.

Breathe
Team Minato Week Day 2: Jinchuuriki
Word Count: 2,5k
Warning: mentions of death
Summary: Breathing used to come easy to Nohara Rin, but it no longer does. With a newfound companion inhabiting her body and lightning-shaped scars decorating it, nothing seemed to be the way as it once had been.
Against Rin’s chest, her heart beat rapidly, each thump feeling harsher than the one before did. With each deep breath, she took, the speed of the organ did not lessen by much and kept a similar pace, not even changing much as she breathed out steadily. Once or twice every few minutes, her breath hitched in her throat so the necessary air no longer flooded her lungs, and Rin felt like a fish would on dry land.
Just last week, breathing had come as easy to her as it had always been, a process she subconsciously has done before she had even been able to form memories of her own. Breathing had never been something Rin had put much thought into, never something she meticulously analyzed to understand the almost automatic process behind it. Save for the times she had assisted panicked breathing of friends, family and patients, helping them come down and earn their composure again, not much thought never went to overthink breathing.
Now, it was something she sublimely struggled to do as it became something intentional.
The change had come swift and sudden, totally unexpected. How could she have predicted her situation, after all? There had been no way for her to know, to see it coming.
Most importantly, however, it turned her life completely around. Nothing would ever be the same as it had been before, so Rin already knew.
Not even the memories of that day she could forget.
The sensation from mere days earlier remained engraved in her thoughts, stuck in her mind as a ghostly shiver coming to haunt her hour after each hour again. Against her chest, it brushed lightly, faintly caressing her skin before it vanished again. In the shape of lightning, the feeling moved across the mark left behind by the incident, the now scar burned into her skin underneath the layers of bandages. From one middle point, the lightning sprouted from the left side of her chest all the way toward the right side, decorating it in a more or less fascinating manner.
As intricate as the scar was, as much it burned against her skin day by day. An almost sickening reminder of what happened, what Rin had done to herself under pressure.
Never would she blame her silver-haired teammate for her own actions, for the choices she had made at that moment.
Rin could vividly remember how she had felt at that moment, she could still feel the exact emotions coursing through each inch of her body as she stood surrounded by the darkness, a foreign weight pressing against the inside of her body. When, approximately an hour earlier, she had come to, fear had been the first thing she had felt. An overwhelming amount of it had left her mind dizzy and sent her thoughts spiraling, promptly becoming indecipherable.
When beginning her studies to become a Shinobi, she would have never expected something like that to happen. Not to the girl she had been prior to the incident.
Now, Rin felt like a different person.
Shakily, the brunette breathed in deeply before releasing a steady breath. In the exact place where her scar lay, the memory of already experienced pain reawakened with a harsh sting, one that had her sucking in a breath immediately after.
The moment Kakashi’s fist sunken into her body, time had completely stopped for the brunette girl, and Rin would give anything to never have to relive the moment again.
Kakashi …
What she had done to him, the mental trauma she must have put him under hurt her to think about. He did not deserve the weight she brought down upon his shoulders, more for him to be burdened to carry on his own. Barely thirteen years old and Rin had been the one to bring such a strain upon him, for Kakashi to deal with yet another death of a teammate.
Had it been selfish of her? The thought lingered in her mind as a constant, left unanswered. She had been too afraid to speak it around anyone, to even mention it.
Was there even a clear answer to it?
At that moment, panic had taken her entirely over, and had left her limbs trembling before a determined expression blossomed on her dirtied features. Just the slightest bit her legs had shaken as she ran toward her teammate, his striking silver hair easily visible even among the chaos reigning. When he had awakened his signature jutsu and a thousand birds had begun chirping, she instantly knew.
Rin had whispered his name as his fist impaled her, going right through her skin, passing her muscles, and bones, and brushing past her heart before coming out on the other side of her. His skin must have been soaked in her blood, painted crimson as the cold air caressed it.
Kakashi … I’m sorry, she had meant to say, but the words had never come out.
The tears she had cried had entirely not been for herself. They had been for her best friend Obito, the first one of the team of three to die.
Next, she cried for Kakashi and for what she had done to the poor boy. What she did was not something one did for the boy the supposedly loved. It was entirely unfair of her to push him into an experience he did not ask for, to use him for her plan. It was unforgivable what she did, for her to force his fist into her body, to force him to aid her in her own death.
She cried for Minato-sensei to come to their aid, to please save her. Rin had deeply wished for a flash of yellow to appear on the battleground and to take out all enemy nin, to come to their rescue in the last moment before her eyes fell shut.
Kushina-san, Rin had wished for the woman to be there and speak uplifting words as she always did.
Yet, there had been no one but Kakashi and herself to suffer under her kidnapping and the actions resulting from it. So the tears streamed down her paling skin and the purple marking decorating her cheeks, leaving behind track upon track as evidence of her suffering.
Kakashi … I’m so sorry!
Death had been something she had chosen to accept and welcome, a fate she partially brought upon herself. At that moment, Rin had been convinced that next, she would fall into the open arms of death, that once the obsidian had fully enveloped her falling and invaded body that her eyes would flutter shut. Peace would wash over her and hold her close, until finally, her suffering would end.
All she wanted was to not be used as a weapon of mass destruction, one that was chosen to unleash one of the nine-tailed beasts upon her village, upon the place where she had grown up, her home.
Rin had fallen as a hero and awoken as a girl, no longer the sole inhabitant of her own body.
She was a Jinchuuriki now, the captor of the three-tails.
“My name is Isobu.” The tailed beast spoke up from within her, reminding her again of something it had already told her once.
Rin shut her eyes tightly and breathed in again, hoping to calm her erratic heartbeat down by at least a little. “Right,” She then spoke softly, her voice coming out as barely a whisper. “I’m sorry, Isobu, I forgot.”
Surprisingly enough to her, during their short amount of time spent together so far the tailed beast had been nothing but nice to her, if not a little timid to even reveal its name to her. After it had been sealed within her, the cry it let out did not sound angered by her being its host, but rather by the circumstance both of them had been forced into. For the duration of her suicide plan, it had not even made one comment, it had not dared to interrupt Rin in what she had been about to do.
Only when her world had turned black, Isobu had spoken to her.
“We are going to be alright.” With his words, a wave of tranquility washed over her and became the last thing she remembered before falling into a long slumber.
Then Rin had awoken in the hospital much to her surprise with tubes upon tubes stuck into her body to keep her alive, only the steady beeping of the heart rate monitor from beside her keeping her company. That had been at least until the tailed beast spoke up from inside her, its words coming out both timid and hesitant.
“I don’t understand,” Just as much as she had been confused, so had been the tailed beast apparently. “We died when you sacrificed yourself, did we not?”
How Rin had wished for the tailed beast, for Isobu, to have an answer to the question. Yet, it did not.
“I don’t understand either.” She had thought. Despite never speaking the words aloud, Isobu had heard.
With wordless communication between herself and the new inhabitant of her own body came another struggle: difficulty breathing.
When Rin had first awoken from her slumber, her throat had felt as dry as the desert of the Sunagakure. However, she had not even been able to as much as reach for the glass of water she spied on her bedside table as the next moment the flow of air cut off, leaving Rin struggling to even get in one breath. Immediately, her hands had come to claw at the already raw skin of her throat, scratching again and again while her face turned red as a result of the lack of oxygen. It was as though she had forgotten how to breathe, how the simplest of actions was executed.
Once, it had been so easy and natural and now, she struggled.
Bitterly, Rin had thought that that had been the moment she would die. Not when she had chosen the countless lives inhabiting the village above her own, but instead when she had survived said attempt and awoken in the hospital.
How pitiful, to say the least.
“Focus,” Came a slightly panicked voice from inside her. Isobu’s emotions seemed to almost entirely mirror her own. “Think. Stop panicking, you need to think about breathing, girl. Think!”
As Kushina had later explained to her, upon becoming a Jinchuuriki, Rin had taken on some of Isobu’s traits. “Since the three-tails and yourself-”
With a hoarse voice, Rin had been quick to correct: “Isobu. Its name is Isobu, so it told me.”
Kushina faltered in her explanation, but the continued on as though nothing had happened. “As Isobu’s Jinchuuriki, you, or more specifically your body, has adapted to some of Isobu’s traits. That could explain what you need to adapt to how you breathe, y’know.”
In the end, the two of them had settled on the explanation that Rin’s lungs had adjusted so much so, that most likely she now had the advantage of being able to stay longer underwater than the average human being could.
“That’s what I think, at least,” Kushina had said with a thoughtful tap of her finger against her chin. “It could be possible at least. According to one of the nurses, your lungs did undergo a change. Whether Kakashi’s chidori is the reason for it or Isobu, I can’t tell you.”
Kushina was not a medic, after all. Rin was, and yet, she felt so helpless in the situation.
“But what is the most important, Rin, is that you don’t let this entire situation overwhelm you, alright?” Kushina’s smile was so comforting, the girl thought. “I know that it can be a bit … much? What helped me through it was relying on those who I love, to not let it get to me as much as it probably should have. You are a strong girl, Rin, especially for making the decision that you did. So be strong, be as strong as you have always been and always will be.”
Rin wasn’t sure why her sensei’s wife was so optimistic about her recovery.
“Kushina-san-”
“-Kushina-nee, if you must.”
The small laugh Rin felt harsh against her throat, but came out lighter than she expected it to. It seemed as though there were things in her life that did not change,  after all.
“I can’t do this alone,” Rin confessed in a timid tone. Within her, her newfound inhuman companion let out a hum in agreement. “I’m just, scared. What if I can’t do this?”
On top of her own smaller one, Kushina’s hands felt as though they would protect her from anything to come her way. “You can and you will, Rin. It’s a big change you have to get used to, being a Jinchuuriki is not easy, admittedly. But for every step along the way, I will be here for you. I won’t leave you to do this alone, y’know!” After a beat of silence, the redhead added, “Minato and Kakashi, too, they are your team. And if he were here, Obito would also support you. He would want you to not give up and live, Rin.”
Kushina was right, Obito would want her to keep fighting. He would cheer her on as he did time and time again, stand by her side through every challenge and obstacle that may come her way. The same she had always done for him, stand by his side through every harsh weather, through rain and thunderstorm to be there for her best friend, her other half she had already lost so young.
How Rin wished for Obito to be here.
The sob that pushed past her lips came out choked, “I miss him, Kushina-san. I miss him so much.”
How she wished that Obito had never died that day in the cave, his body crushed underneath rocks too for them to be lifted by mere children. She just wanted her best friend back.
Kushina was quick to lean forward from her position seated on the hospital bed, her arms coming to wrap around the body of the young girl, bringing her into an embrace. With a soothing voice, the woman spoke, “I know you do, I know.”
It was when Rin realized, that there was someone who understood how she felt, and the struggles she was facing. In this, she wasn’t alone.
She was quick to bury her face into the redhead’s shoulder as the tears cascaded down her cheeks, effectively soaking the woman’s dress. “Ku-Kushina-nee, pl-please don’t lea-leave.” Rin begged in a broken whisper, speaking the words against the material of the dress.
Kushina pulled the girl only closer. “I won’t, I promise you,” She whispered and pressed a small kiss to the top of the brunette’s head, before holding her closer again. “You have to breathe, Rin, can you do that for me?”
Rin was so scared and yet …
“You heard her, Rin, breathe. Calm yourself down, you can do it.” Isobu spoke up. His voice held comfort to it, one she found herself quickly succumbing to.
… she could do it, because she wasn’t alone in this.
Breathing may no longer come as easy to Nohara Rin as it used to, nothing would ever change the fact. But at the same time, she knew that as long as she held onto her remaining strength and fought against every obstacle standing in her way, one day she would get used to what her life had turned into.
Until then, Rin just had to breathe.

Kumo Thoughts
So this will hopefully be quick but the most common take I see for Kumo in the Naruto fandom is that it's a overly militaristic hellhole (pardon the language) that kidnaps and forcibly breeds any bloodline it can get its hands on and like.
I get it?
the Naruto ninja world is absolutely messed up enough to accommodate a village like that. Especially with- *waves at Kiri*, *waves at ROOT*, *waves at Ame*, *wa-*. But I feel like personally I think that's. The shallowest take? Like if that's how you wanna world build it! You can! Lots of angst and interesting subterfuge down that way.
But we seen in canon that shinobi who live in Really horrible villages do tend to go missing-nin en masse; Kiri is the poster child for this, but Iwa and Suna both have some ... pretty noticeable defections. On the flip side the only REAL Kumo missing-nin we see, iirc, are the Kinkaku brothers.
From The First Shinobi War.
Like- what are things we know about Kumo *really* from the show/s?
and the one everyone harps on in worldbuilding- they tried to kidnap Hinata and Kushina.
HOWEVER. The rest of the things we know about them are:
2. Their Raikage is allergic to doors. He refuses to acknowledge doors. He can and will smash through any wall, window, or other non-door entity in order to exit or enter a room when at all possible. This is not the behavior of a Strict Rigid Militaristic Man this is the behavior of a feral gorilla someone stuffed in an office and expected to do paperwork. Which, granted, A is fully capable of doing his paperwork, by all accounts he's actually really good at running his village. But again. This man is allergic to doors or manners and anyone who is willing to arm wrestle Senju Tsunade to get medical assistance for his own men can't be all bad let's be real.
3. Killer B exists. I feel like he alone is enough evidence against the "military breeding program hellhole" fanon but to break it down. This "brother" of A is not actually his brother. In canon, B is literally just- *some kid*, AT BEST a cousin of the previous Jinchuuriki but that is not confirmed iirc, that was among several other kids that were all lined up and told "we need a new Jinchuuriki and A needs a fighting buddy, run at this training dummy and see if you can help him decapitate it" and when B was the one who succeeded they went "congrats you're his brother now, here's your complimentary octopus monster". And like everyone just accepts this? Not a SINGLE person calls B as a fake brother or points out that he and A are not actually related. Not to mention B has the strongest and most stable relationship with his Biju until Naruto and Kurama work out their bromance, and B was rocking that friendship with his biju *years* before Naruto even knew Kurama was a Thing That Existed.
4. B is also beloved by his village. BELOVED. The people adore him and his weird rapping nonsense. And yeah there's flashbacks in the anime to that not being the case when he was first introduced but B was actually able to work on changing their minds. You really think "small feral child rapping at civilians to make them warm up to him" would have flown in Kiri? In Iwa who canonically keep abusing their jinchuuriki to the point of running off? Nope. No sir. B is also allowed to have a team of his own, and seems to not only be an accepted member of the village but also a much trusted and beloved one who is even allowed his own team? Even Konoha doesn't have that good a track record lbr. It took Naruto face punching the guy who just committed genocide on the entire village for Konoha to go "you know what? We like you now".
5. One of the only other jinchuuriki we see that has fully mastered their Biju state and is on good terms with their Biju while also not being a missing-nin (or brainwashed and then immediately dead) is ALSO a Kumo ninja. Namely the holder of the Two Tails. Now on the wiki it says that she was put through a "detestable" training program but we all know how inconsistent Kishi is with... everything worldbuilding ever. And if we go off behavior alone from the brief scenes with her, Yugito Nii is?? Really stable??? And solid with her Biju??? She gave her pawprint for an Uchiha child's book of cat paw prints for crying out loud.
6. throughout the entire show, Jinchuuriki are consistently treated as the lowest class citizens. In basically every village. Naruto in Konoha, Kushina cried when she realized Minato was going to make Naruto a Jinchuuriki and put him through what she went through growing up as one so you know she didn't have a great time either, GAARA is his own entire dissertation on Jinchuuriki treatment and stability, Fuu was raised by the village leader of her village but had zero friends and was canonically super lonely and isolated, Han and Roku straight up ran away from Iwa because of whatever they were put through, a maneuver only repeated in another village by Utakata from Kiri. But in Kumo we find two jinchuuriki who have mastered their biju, are well respected by their peers and fellow citizens, and are basically treated like any other really weirdo ninja from the village barring needing to be monitored with bodyguards in B's case, which is mostly because he keeps running away to go train under rap artists so you can understand why A is ready to go frothing at the mouth feral at his brother sometimes.
All I'm saying is that if even the village's "monsters" are treated that way, why does everyone stick with the fanon that they're a breeding, bloodline stealing hellhole?
Imo it would be WAY more fun to world build Kumo as the feral mountain ninja-mandalorians of the Elemental Nations, who have a reputation for bloodline theft because they keep finding Actual Strays, Refugees from other villages, and Illegitimate bloodline children and going: YO ANYONE GONNA ADOPT THIS? and not waiting for an answer. Your a missing ninja from Kiri and you're fed up with both them and missing-nin life and want to come work for us? Great. Oh you also have a valuable kekkei genkai that can be inherited? Awesome have you heard of our red light district and child support program or better yet our tax deductible program for marrying one of our lovely civilians and raising a family here where no bloodline purges will ever happen ever. Oh you're a stray Uzumaki on the run from bloodline hunters? Well we may have been involved in destroying Uzushio (depends on your fan interpretation since canonically we do not know which villages did that other than Not Konoha) but we also have hot food, good housing, high ninja standards of living, and free weekly entertainment in betting when our Raikage is going to launch his desk at his brother like a high speed missile because B's rapping got too cringy.
Let Hinata's and Kushina's kidnapping either be the exception to their usual playbook of how they acquire bloodlines (hey it's not their fault if the other villages can't keep it in their pants/can't inspire loyalty) OR have it be seen, culturally in Kumo, as something more akin to a rescue mission. Yes these two girls are useful and have useful bloodlines, that's tactically wise, but also have you SEEN how Konoha treats their jinchuuriki? They have seal master princess and are treating her like a dog on a leash! And literally everyone knows what the Hyuuga do to their own kids if they aren't main branch, and we can't rescue any of those kids without their eyeballs exploding and them dying but hey we can snag the heiress and then any kids she has won't have to be branded so-.
Like I feel that would be so much more INTERESTING? Instead of having Konoha be the only "nice" village and make this weird tonal dissonance for how the "nice" village has the most incompetent leadership (Sarutobi) and underground atrocities (Danzo and Orochimaru) while every other village is Horrible All The Time For Everyone why not have Kumo be actually Really Functional and treat their shinobi and Jinchuuriki well and their horrible reputation is *mostly* (not entirely, because. Ninja.) be cultural clashes between the feral mountain ninja and Everyone Else and propaganda from the other villages who would like their shinobi to STOP DEFECTING TO KUMO PLEASE. WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY HAVE DENTAL.
Seriously I feel like there is so much more you could do with that angle than just "yet another shinobi village that is Bad and Awful and Needs The Power of Friendship yet somehow has this really stupid goofy jinchuuriki man who loves his brother and his village shut up don't think about it".

Every time I read your posts/your anons about Uzushio life and now that last post about turtles and Isobu I get constantly hit eith the image of Mito-Kushina-Naruto as Isobu Jinchuuriki instead of Kurama
Idk how or why, I just know that I love the idea
(Also I love the idea of Mito being Isobu's Jinchuuriki not having to go live to Konona but maybe being like the ambassador or something and so passing the Bijuu to Kushina who also takes up her position and that's how she meets Minato, and also Kushina being there to protect her home when it's attacked and Uzushio surviving and thanks to her connection with Minato they get Konoha's help fast, and in return Kushina helping Konoha when Kurama attacks [who could be Kurama's Jinchuuriki in her place?] and that's how she dies/is forced to passes Isobu onto Naruto or something like that and Naruto being raised between the two villages and aaah this idea is so amazing but I'm shit at writing so if anyone's interested do use it freely)
Oh that would be super cool

Do ppl genuinely believe gaara has a crush on naruto? I thought it was a joke 😭 the jokes like gaara hating sasuke are funny but they're far from true considering in canon he cried for sasuke and tried to tell him to return. He told naruto later on that sasuke's not planning on coming back bc it was true, not bc he's jealous or some shit 💀 it was naruto who got upset at that and shoved his hand away, and also bc gaara made it clear that if in the war sasuke is on the enemy team then he won't hold back and will go for the kill. He's just another person who doesn't care about sasuke anymore which is why naruto got mad. To me only naruto and sasuke being romantically in love makes any sense, when ppl bring in not only gaara but even shikamaru, neji, Lee, sai it just seem like a joke bc wtf? Most of those ppl are pretty openly straight anyway. It seems like only sasunaru fans do this, they think every man around naruto wants him and is jealous of sasuke and sasuke's not a good bf but all of that is pure projection and stupidity and they act like incels when they treat naruto like some helpless girl with her Chad bf who should instead be with the nice guys. Anyway that went sorta off topic but yeah I don't think gaara's actually in love. Or if he is, he's not the jealous type bc I admit if he was a girl, even dudebros might see it with him. It's just that naruto has it part of his character that everyone worships him sooner or later. Whenever he changes someone they become his fan and act like he's God. Gaara, neji, shikamaru, pain, obito, tsunade. Sasuke's the only special one bc their relationship is actually different and special. But even for him sometimes some sns fans reduce him to a naruto worshipper in sns fics. Or they talk about the "i'm in naruto's world, I'm blessed to exist" quote that seems an awful lot like idol worship. I hate when they reduce sasuke and his relationship to naruto to that, that's hinata's job, to be naruto's personal slave, not sasuke. And if you remember this while analyzing gaara he just seems like yet another character that got reduced to a naruto dick sucker, that's all.
Gaara and Sai openly straight Nonee? xD I understand your points, but I do think you’re doing yourself a HUGE disservice if you think Gaara is just a... *checks* 👀... “Naruto dick sucker”...
... kinda falls short, no? Their bond is distinct, and categorizing it as similar to Naruto's other connections, especially when most are comrades at best. Villagers conditionally acknowledge Naruto because they see him as useful until he proves otherwise, and that includes the majority of his... friends. Naruto said it himself, he doesn’t trust them (I HAVE A THEORY ABOUT THIS REGARDING 'HOPE' TBH I’LL FINISH THAT DRAFT SOON FINALLY LOL) This lack of trust is evident again during his fight with Kurama.
With Gaara, it is very uniquely a bond of their own regardless whether someone believes it is romantic or not and it doesn’t really have anything to do with Sasuke, so I’m not sure how to feel about a comparison?
Tumblr media
However, Naruto's connection with Gaara does share some similarities with his bond with Sasuke; hurting for Gaara’s pain because he understood it as fellow Jinchuuriki, or hurting for Sasuke’s pain and burdens but going on a journey because he wanted to understand (‘we could’ve been in each other’s shoes, Sasuke’). These bonds also relate to the system itself, which is closely interlinked. Hence, Sasuke shouting at Naruto for not understanding in VotE1. But it's not the same thing, and that's perhaps one of the most significant differences between Naruto's bonds with Sasuke and Gaara, don't you think? The contrasting pain (regarding that understanding) he felt played a crucial role in his learning process. "I felt less pain when I escaped loneliness, but Gaara was lonelier for longer and Sasuke has to live with this burden... which is unbearable, what can I do?" Collaboration only becomes possible when you can truly understand one another. The same was seen during the Shinobi War when they had to unite as a single alliance. Gaara references this several times.

That understanding transcends national borders, and it's an integral part of Naruto's Ninja Way. It's also a way to demonstrate that mutual understanding could potentially unite the Nations, but that's a different topic. What remains consistent is Naruto's anger towards the entire system when it becomes personal and disregarding what is seen as 'appropriate Shinobi behavior'. (Lmao not those anti-Naruto post claiming Naruto was fine with everything altogether 😭 ffs, delete.)
Tumblr media
Of course Naruto’s emotions played a huge part in him going feral. It was primarily triggered by Gaara's death, but even before that Kurama's Chakra was slipping through as he was learning about himself, Jinchuuriki and discovering new things that Konoha, and even Jiraiya, whom he trained with for years, had never shared with him. Our boy was seriously going through it, but this drive wasn’t just him showing Shonen Hero behavior to ‘stop the bad guys from gaining power’ or grieving a friends’ death at that moment even.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Naruto had every right to be furious. This is the same anger that says, 'If you Shinobi of the Leaf hadn't placed a monster in me,' and 'Did any of you even try to ask ME how I felt?!!' But, of course, Naruto repressed his anger and avoided empathizing with himself. However, this anger still simmers beneath the surface in the story. (Sakura's display of compassion for Naruto's situation after realizing he could die was a good moment tbh, I liked it even if Naruto shoved it aside. Kinda like he was saying they could never understand as Sasuke said to him, except Naruto sorta laughs it off and shows confidence instead. Anw, Sakura's best moments are in this arc, and it has nothing to do with the Sasori fight.)
But why doesn't Naruto express anger for himself?
Because, in this case, he carries a sense of guilt towards Gaara. He heard Gaara express how he desperately searched for a reason to live, feeling like a 'relic of the past that people wanted to get rid of'—unwanted and alone. This led Gaara to decide to care only for himself and kill everyone else. While Naruto could empathize with Gaara due to the shared pain stemming from similar situations, he also understood that their circumstances were entirely different at the time he met him. Naruto compared his own situation with Gaara's, stating that 'everyone' else had saved him from a dark and lonely hell, lumping the village together to contrast it with Gaara, who had no one still.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Naruto eventually said that Iruka and Sasuke were the ones who truly saved him after learning about different types of bonds and gaining a better understanding. However, the idea of being supported by so many people, (conditional or not) in contrast to Gaara, tore Naruto apart because he knows how unbearable it is to live that way. The Gaara he encountered during the exams represented Naruto's greatest fear for himself, and he began to feel guilty for having people around him, or even those who 'worship' him, as he felt it was unfair to Gaara. Despite his repressed emotions, Itachi's 'fear-inspiring Genjutsu' exposed Naruto's feelings and fears.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Naruto's efforts didn't just lead to a strong friendship; they also provided Gaara with hope. In this story, 'Hope' is perhaps the most important theme, a reason to live that is much more bearable. I wouldn't reduce all of this to Gaara merely 'worshipping' Naruto. Such analysis seems to miss the nuances of their complex bond regardless.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Naruto's sharing of joy also reflects his 'mysterious power.' He had mixed feelings about seeing Gaara advance so quickly as Kazekage but also genuinely felt happy for him. I genuinely believe that dismissing the Naruto-Gaara dynamic as mere 'worship' overlooks the significant impact Naruto had on Gaara and those around them. Which was extremely important to the story itself. I love the bond between Naruto and Gaara, but acknowledge it really isn't the same as the one with Sasuke. But considering their relationship, it's not surprising that Gaara might have a little crush on Naruto. However, it's not essential to insist on finding canonical evidence for this imo. While it's a plausible interpretation, I don't think that Gaara's feelings for Naruto are taken too seriously by most fans? Furthermore, Gaara's seeming 'pettiness' regarding Sasuke or Naruto's prioritization of him above others is not something anyone understood. The general consensus "for Naruto's sake" was that “Sasuke causes Naruto pain” (more like, Sasuke’s pain hurts Naruto because he loves him) so of course, Gaara's feelings were conflicted by his duty (getting rid of a 'criminal') and his friendship with Naruto (who will fight against such Shinobi duties because feelings are involved and they'll never be able to truly become emotionless tools-). Sasuke had attacked the summit after all, usually an immediate death sentence regardless of reason. Gaara is Naruto’s friend, it would be weird if he didn’t want to protect Naruto in return even against Sasuke, it's just that Naruto didn't see it the same way as everyone around him. THAT is frustrating!! Remember he told Naruto to really think about his friendship with Sasuke and what it meant? 👀 Like, "Naruto, you really want to do this? We are friends too, yeah? Doesn’t he cause you pain? Look at you... think about this carefully, kinda sus tbh. What’s this meaaann? I give my life for you, I will fight for you but what we do now huh?" Etc-
In the end, Naruto is the protagonist of a Shonen story, serving as a measuring device to gauge the significance of events in the narrative. (This role is largely shared with Sasuke though). Naruto provides the reference point for understanding the story's relationships. The core message, typically related to positive change as defined by Naruto/the main character, is a fundamental aspect of these stories. What truly matters is why something is significant in the story and what it means to the characters. His bond with Gaara a huge part of it. And to a degree the others as well because that's kind of the point.... And it's not for nothing we haven't seen the same development with the villagers as a whole because it wasn't important to the story.... yet. (Should've been solved before he became Hokage though 😂 "Naruto-the-village-is-family-I-guess-cuz-former-hokage-said-so-Uzumaki." Bro.)
"only sasunaru fans do this, they think every man around naruto wants him and is jealous of sasuke and sasuke's not a good bf but all of that is pure projection and stupidity and they act like incels when they treat naruto like some helpless girl with her Chad bf who should instead be with the nice guys."
Ngl, I can't disagree with this one. Idk why the Naruto-bl-harem is so popular? And ok, have them all worship Naruto for all I care, but why is he always so....... dainty. Don't mind me some uwu-Naruto, he's cute alright, but.... no 😭 I don't even have words.
"Sasuke's the only special one bc their relationship is actually different and special. But even for him sometimes some sns fans reduce him to a naruto worshipper in sns fics."
I mean... to a certain degree. Define worshipping 👀 from what I can read about the true definition, their 'worshipping' is pretty mutual, but the difference lies in the foundation and the fact that it is unconditional. I know what you mean though, the Sasuke guilt tripping is real and a bit painful. Like? Isn't that Esaka's job?
"Or they talk about the "i'm in naruto's world, I'm blessed to exist" quote that seems an awful lot like idol worship."
UGH! 😓 This stupid non-canon quote. Did everyone forget who wrote this novel about Sasuke 'atoning for his sins'??? 😭 SPOILER: NOT KISHIMOTO. (Kinda want to read it though to fact-check some things.) There might be some truth in the words now that I have spent many months thinking about the blank period... but so does Naruto not want to live without Sasuke. As much as their world includes the other, they are still their own characters with their own goals in a Shinobi world with a system that would never allow them to truly live in each others' worlds fully anyway gerigjekrg3rhiqjkhmregqerigkjqrg;-; ok bye.

Gon Freecs
Tumblr media
🎣Gon is naively friendly at most times and ready to help someone so he doesn't let the mistreatment he witnesses you enduring slide. Honestly, he doesn't know why those people are pushing you around like a punching back and bully you but he quickly steps in and shields you. There's a confused look on his face as he asks your bullies why they treat you so rudely since he has just recently travelled to this city, unaware of the person who is hosting a powerful demon inside of them. Even as your bullies angrily proclaim to him what exactly you are and that you're basically a monster, he doesn't understand them. He sees a person who is in need right now, there is no monster fox and that's why he tells the group to stop as he helps you up although you slap his hand away, not trusting anybody.
🎣 Soon Gon realizes that the whole town despises you whenever he catches you outside just coldly enduring everything since this is the norm for you. You look terribly lonely and bitter and Gon decides to change that. He's never been scared to approach dangerous people and you don't even strike him as one. He suddenly pops up around you and tries to befriend you. Obviously you reject him, perceive him as annoying but that isn't something that discourages Gon. He has a sunshine aura around him, sincerely wants to help you a bit by showing you that not everyone must hate you. You eventually stop pushing him away although you still ignore him. It's undeniable that he has started worming his way into your heart though. Deep down you do want someone you can rely on too.
🎣 He's so happy when he notices that he pushes through your shell, promises that he'll be a loyal and good friend. He spends lots of time with you but during this time his feelings change. He sees a side to you you're too afraid to show since you fear that people will use it to weaken you. You're utterly adorable though and he encourages you to let your feelings freely flow when he's with you since you can trust him. He grows more protective, exposes a more threatening side when he sees how people bully you cruely. Without a doubt he asks you at one point to come with him to a safer place as he grows paranoid with the amount of abuse you go through daily. He's sure that you would be happier with him too! Gon might even try to kidnap you as he doesn't believe that you would ever hurt him, not considering Kurama inside of you. If you have an amicable relationship with the fox spirit, Gon would grow to like him too.
Killua Zoldyck
Tumblr media
🪀 He has turned his eyes away a lot from the misery of others due to his family but meeting Gon made him develop more empathy for others. He's completely unaware of the situation of the village upon walking randomly in it. He only knows that something is definitely wrong when he sees people shunning you out as soon as they see you. They instantly stop chatting and turn their back to you, some even call you rude names. It isn't until someone throws a rock after you that he steps in with frightening speed and catches it before it can hit you. You have a surprised look on your face before your face hardens and you turn away without even thanking him. Something on your face reminds him of himself when he was younger and he only finds out later that day what exactly you are.
🪀 Gon has been there for him and he feels like you need someone too who helps you to escape from your own darkness. Killua isn't sure if he can do that but he wants to try since he sympahtizes with you. He's less persistent than Gon since he understands that you don't trust anyone besides yourself. He just lingers around you and steps in when someone tries to harass you again, scaring them away. He doesn't see you as a monster since you're just innocent, he on the other hand has murdered people without having a demon inside of him so he sees himself more of a monster than you. Killua is weirdly honored when you slowly trust him and spend time with him. Most of the time he insists on spending inside since the chances to be disturbed here are lower than if you two would go to the city.
🪀 You are so much more behind that sheltered and stoic facade, refreshing and absolutely lovely. Killua can't help the feelings he develops with time for you, a darker obsession born out of sheer paranoia and protective instinct. He doesn't want to leave you alone since he just knows that someone will try to get to you again, stalks you when you want to be alone. His intimidation increases dangerously and the air starts suffocating one as soon as he catches someone trying to harm you. Believing that his actions are justified due to his love for you, people are bound to disappear around you. He tries to keep you isolated in your house until he breaks and embraces you in a tight hug, begging you to come with him. You shouldn't stay here, it's too dangerous. He tries to stay rational and not rash things when it comes to abducting you, he doesn't want to trigger Kurama inside of you. Especially if he knows that it would harm you if he comes out.
Kurapika Kurta
Tumblr media
⛓️ During his pursuit after the Phantom Troupe, he stumbles onto the village where he meets the person that will change his life forever. He plans to stay a bit in here and regain some energy before he continues travelling. That's when he's hit with the gossip of the town as they feel the need to warn him since he's new. To stay away from you since you're a vicious person with a demon inside of you. Kurapika is not prone to fall for such rumors though. He doesn't even know that it's you when he walks around in the forest and sees you there. You ignore him for the most part since he doesn't distract you. When he sees you later in the city again as you try to buy something but are constantly rejected, he realizes who you are and helps you to get what you want. He's somewhat disgusted with the behavior of the villagers.
⛓️ He offers you to try to help you as much as he can during his stay although he understands why you're hesitating. He's not in the mood to mingle with any of the people in the village though now that he's seen their unjustified discrimination against you and finds himself hanging more around you when he catches you. He's not forcing you into conversations and lets you decide the course of the interaction. You two grow close as you mellow out around him and he softens up too, growing more protective over you. He stays longer than intended at first since he feels uneasy to leave you. It happens for the first time when you wind up injured because he wasn't there for a moment that he snaps at whoever did this to you and harms them too, you have to hold him back as he glares intensely at the culprit.
⛓️ After that he truly starts to break. Suddenly he grows overbearing, barely leaves you alone and refuses to let you into the village. He insists to buy you everything you need, makes a fuss over small scratches and dotes on you a lot. He's realized that he loves you and is terrified that you'll be killed out of sheer spite and fear by the villagers. He wants to take you away so badly, tries to guilt-trip you to leave together with him so he can bring you to a place that is safer and isolated. Kurapika blames the fox, even if you should have found a friend in him. He probably would have even considered finding a way to get him out if it wouldn't be for the fact that you're going to die if Kurama would be extracted from you. He stresses himself extremely out, more than you do, with the situation in the village and lashes out as soon as he hears someone sneering at you or getting too close to you. The fact that everyone hates you only worsens his paranoia.
Leorio Paradinight
Tumblr media
🧳He might talk a lot about how you can have anything with money but it's no secret that Leorio has a big heart for others. He doesn't need to understand what is going on in this city, it's enough for him to witness how you're kicked out of a store you just went in and how people mock you and make fun of you. Leorio gets angry when he sees this, hastens to you to help you stand up before raising his voice madly against everyone. How can they just treat someone like this? He strives to be a doctor, has already certain knowledge and quickly checks the few bruises and injuries you sustained. When he dares to ask you why you're treated like this, you stare at him confused before you huff and ask if he's new here. He nods, a bit confused, and you just spit the truth angrily in his face, expecting him to fear you.
🧳Instead he looks at you for a few moments before saying that you don't seem like a monster to him, you seem actually like a nice person. The comment flusters you as you aren't used to such flattery. He honestly feels sick when he hears the talk of the citizens and watches how you're sheltered from the community. He's determined to let you know that there's one person who likes you though, spends more time with you and accompanies when you're in the village so that he can protect you. You're grateful and expose a tender and sweeter side to him you usually don't show others and that is what makes him fall head over heels for you in the end. He can't even begin to fathom why anyone would think of you as a vicious beast. This vicious beast might just turn out to be your sole friend too.
🧳The people in this place are clearly in the wrong about you. He grows aggressive and very verbal and loud at one point, shouts at someone if they made a cruel remark about them and if they provoke him, he might even be about to throw hands. He focuses on helping you to heal as good as he can too. He constantly tries to make you laugh by telling jokes or acting in a way not fitting for his age if it means making you smile. He's very sensitive so when you're upset, he's unhappy too. There's a lot of verbal affirmation together with caring gestures and quality times to make you hopefully feel a bit better. Leorio is normally not someone who holds grudges or despises someone but the people in here might just manage to make him go through all of this. He's very desperate to get you out of here, begs you to let him help you finding a new house and getting out of this shitty place. You deserve better.
Illumi Zoldyck
Tumblr media
🤎 The only reason he comes to this mundane village is because he has a mission. His target just happens to spend some time in there too so he obviously follows them and stalks them briefly before he goes for the kill. That should be it but he happens to catch the stories going through the village about how you're a monster since a powerful demon is inside of you. Illumi has to admit that this peaks his curiosity, he never heard about something like this before. He starts stalking you a bit and quickly sees how you're made the scapegoat for everything. Even his victim is thought to be killed by you and honestly, that hurts his pride a bit. You're a clumsy commoner, you could never pull out such a clean kill like an assassion. He wonders wat your true powers are though.
🤎 Your precarious situation catches his attention as he's somewhat fascinated with how much you're hated and jeered at. He admires you for never crying about it though as you instead swallow everything down. Illumi even watches you when you're home where he sees a different side to you, a side he realizes with time only he knows about. That makes him feel good for some reason, knowing that he's the only one who gets to see you like this. Due to his moments with you, he starts feeling weirdly possessive over you. He's actually glad that no one besides him knows your secrets and has seen your softer side. Having him turning obsessed and possessive means the worst or the villagers though as every bruise and injury you suffer is effectively like signing a death certificate.
🤎 People are suddenly found dead everywhere and the village panics and turns their blame and hatred towards you again. You're terrified since you know that they won't believe you, you even start fearing that they might kill you. Obviously your silent protector would let that never happen but he sees in your fear a chance to lure you to him. He's careful though as he still hasn't seen how strong the sealed demon inside of you really is. If you can control that power and would submit to him though, he's sure you'd be a perfect spouse for him. His needles should help in an emergency. Extracting the demon from you would end in your death so he's cancelled that thought out for now. You flee before things can escalate, no real attachment to your old home. You don't even notice that someone is swiftly following you. Don't worry though, he'll introduce himself very soon in the bluntest way possible to you.
Meruem
Tumblr media
👑 You've gone through so much shit in your life already as everyone hates you and wishes for you to just disappear together with the fox sealed inside of you. You've dealt with this your entire life, hold a huge grudge against everyone in this so called "home" of yours. Yet ironically enough when Chimera Ants start attacking your village and people are captured and killed, Kurama is the one who saves you. It's pure survival instinct and fear that unlocks a portion of the power you hold, something Meruem senses even if he isn't present during the attack. He later on demands from one of the foot soldiers to tell him what happened and they shake out of fear when they tell him that a human in a village attacked and murdered countless of the soldiers. Meruem tells them coldly that they should have taken you and for that have failed before he beheads them with his tail.
👑 Whatever you used, it wasn't Nen and that is bound to interest the king. There's another power besides Nen and he wants it. He orders his royal guards to search for you and also look into the destroyed village for clues. They return with the information that you have a demon sealed inside of you and Shaiapouf advices to be careful, something that ends in a harsh slap from his king since he isn't dumb. His inital plan to kill you are out of question, he wants the power of the demon and killing you might end in Kurama's death too. To his Youpi finds you and takes you to the palace, throws you in front of Meruem's throne as the kind demands you to tell him more about the fox and how to achieve that power. When finding out that you don't know how to get Kurama out of you, he imprisons you until he finds a way to extract the power from you and make it his own.
👑 He often demands your presence as he wants to talk more to you about Kurama or see a glimpse of your power. With time he eventually starts hearing your stories about how you were treated and how you can't even feel any sorrow for the villagers, you'd lie if you'd say that you have never wished them the worst misery ever. Your stories somewhat entertain the king so he listens to them. At one point he starts respecting your mental strength for never breaking despite all the abuse and that respect eventually turns into admiration and then into something much darker. Suddenly he wants you all the time with him to keep an eye on you, grows extremey hostile around Shaiapouf since the butterfly despises you for spending so much time around the king. The notion of you dying after extracting the Kyuubi suddenly isn't a indifferent subject for him anymore since he doesn't want you dead. The king wants to keep you.

Obito did nothing wrong!
I just became acquainted with a portion of Obito’s fandom that, in their passionate worship of one of the best characters written by Kishimoto, becomes obtuse to hold him accountable for his actions, choosing instead to blame Madara’s manipulation or Zetsu’s, while some others –far more rabid, rest his decisions upon his emotions, for which he had no control of.
I won’t dedicate this as much time as I probably could, as I hold no interest in dedicating this idea more than it deserves, so pardon me for the hastiness of this post.
I am, or rather I always considered myself, also quite enthusiastic when it comes to Obito, for whom I have a soft spot in lieu of everything he endured from a young age, however, detaching him from every action he performed (whilst painting him as a mere puppet and not the mastermind he became from the tender age of thirteen) is a disservice to his character, and the idea that we can’t hold accountable a twenty-nine-year-old man for his decisions it’s something both dangerous and that I personally find annoying.
Madara and Zetsu did, as some point out, lured Obito to specific decisions when modifying/manipulating events so Rin would die while he watched –as Madara wanted to guarantee Obito wouldn’t return to Konoha and would, instead, seek changes within a military system that did nothing but warrant their soldiers' expendability; something Madara had nothing to do with, as the war and mindset for which the shinobi system uphold itself were established prior to his intervention. Shortly after these events, Madara died, leaving Obito to his own devices and a sketched plan that, even stated by Madara himself, was not followed as planned.
Obito was told to harvest the tailed beasts, he could’ve easily taken Kurama once he released him, yet he consciously chose to summon it upon Rin’s grave and break havoc in the village, for which the Uchiha clan was blamed. He also chose to kill an entire portion of his kin alongside Itachi and showed no remorse, as he considered it was a sacrifice made in lieu of ever-lasting peace (the fact that the clan was doomed regardless as the government already chose its destiny doesn’t modify the fact that he assisted in their destruction and warranted Konoha’s success). He controlled, without having to as he could’ve taken the three tails and sealed it upon the statue, Kirigakure’s Mizukage, deepening the gravity of the Kekkei Genkai cleansing (which basis where already there but it doesn’t diminish his performance) occurring in such village.
Many think that the seal placed on his heart by Madara was controlling Obito’s emotions and actions, however, the seal “Kinkoju no Fuda” that was placed both in Obito and Rin (and was twice removed by Kakashi’s Chidori –which is so incredibly poetic I can’t believe some of you would strip such moment from the relevance it has), was to guarantee that none of them would kill themselves -and while there was control intended upon it (x) Madara was nowhere around it to perform such task. Obito chose to remove that seal willingly (he knew of its existence, which defies the purpose of an ever-controlling seal even when the sealer is dead) by using Kakashi’s technique in order to become the Ten-Tails Jinchuuriki (x), as he never trusted nor liked the older Uchiha and wanted to be in control of Tsukuyomi.
Tumblr media
He also was the one who bonded with the Ten-Tails and chose to kill Shukaku and Inoichi, he had absolute control of his actions and emotions at that point as he even threatened Madara to put everything in jeopardy, which makes the whole “Madara controlled him as he wanted” idea nonsensical (x).
Tumblr media
Madara even admits that he created such circumstances in order to draw Obito to darkness (x) and make him seek Tsukuyomi as an outcome –as he saw himself in hell, he’ll look for a reality that he could control. Why would he take such lengths to convince someone of doing his binding if he could control it even beyond the grave?
The seal was placed in order to control Obito once Madara was revived and in case Obito went “rogue”. If that seal had already been working, Obito would never have had the chance to even plan to take it out through Kakashi's Chidori, as it would have been controlled much earlier and the whole “taking out the seal” would’ve been on accident, at most. He defied Madara’s manipulation in order to become the Ten-Tails Jinchuuriki (x), allowed Kakashi to pierce through the seal (so no more “manipulation”), tamed the Ten-Tails and still continued to attack and repeat the same mindset he did prior to the seal’s destruction (x, x).
Tumblr media
He even admits that the path he followed is one chosen by him (x) and he has no regrets (x) –how can his “fandom” deny him of the agency he claims for himself?
It’s true that you are what the environment makes of you, something for which Madara and Zetsu were responsible for (as Zetsu also manipulated Madara, so if we place blame upon a subject then we need to keep doing it to infinitum, and such practice holds no one responsible in the end), but once that happens, everything that comes after is of your own choosing. The environment shapes you and offers you choices, and it’s the decision that you make between such choices that, in the end, makes you:
You can't expect someone in a war-torn area to have the luxury of choices awarded to the those that live in times of peace; and you can't expect the poor, who struggle just to survive, to have as many choices as the middle-class exercises. In this regard, there's little difference between the fate you were born into and the destiny you make; as the less luck you have, the closer your destiny is to your fate; the more luck you have, the wider the gap. Then all of them become less about moral dilemmas and more about survival dilemmas: violence becomes right if your survival is at stake. And to drag the context back to the military, it becomes about the ethics of the state-created solider itself: what is a solider; why is it righteous; why is an anti-solider actor (an irony that provokes) against an illustrious solider villainous? State, too, is a choice maker, but the position of power awards it a greater liberty of what choices and how many choices people can have: the Uchiha didn't have any; Hyuga main branch had plenty; Leaf's sympathizers also had innumerable. You can't expect the receiver of few choices not to pick the ones that grant them clemency, freedom, and more future options in the face of oppression.
If the idea that “emotions are so strong they have no choice but to satisfy it until completion” it’s enough of an explanation (and I particularly detest such ideology as it relies mostly on Tobirama’s idea of Uchiha, which is absolutely preposterous), then it can easily be used as a defense for anyone that committed any sort of crime in order not to be held accountable: Murder might cause the killer excitement, so they acted upon that necessity to placate their emotion, if in anger, one can very easily assault someone and be understood, as they’re simply controlled by their imperative need to release such feeling.
In the overall context of the narrative, Obito was fuelled by feelings of love, anger, and frustration like most other characters, as Naruto’s constant pursuit of Sasuke was also fuelled by emotions –the difference between both of them is that Obito looked for a solution that pushed him to move outside the shinobi bureaucratic system, which threatened Konoha’s stability, while Naruto’s quest was made inside such political and military structure, which ensured the village’s survival.
Regardless of this apparent idea that emotions are what made him act like that, thus, he has no control over his performance (and I’m tempted to say I prefer Obito’s detractors or, simply put, haters, rather than this sort of fandom), Obito is to be held accountable by characters affected by him, such as Naruto (who lost both his parents when he attacked), Sasuke (who was another victim of Obito’s manipulation and the UCM), Ino and Shikamaru, and basically anyone that directly or indirectly suffered from his actions. Just because Naruto “brought him to the light” and forgave him, that doesn’t make him any less guilty or gives any other of his victims equal closure.
“But Obito always cared what others thought of him, which is why Naruto was able to influence him.”
Not exactly, kid Obito yes, definitely, as his wish was to become Hokage he admired and wanted to be admired also, paying special attention to others and how Rin specifically, saw him. Adult Obito? He cared for no one specifically nor anything, he killed his kin, helped the cleansing of hundreds of people on another land, and killed thoushands during the war, amongst many other things he did in lieu of his plan, why would he care what anyone thinks of him at this point? It’s specifically shown during Obito’s final moments as an antagonist, as his adult self is confronted with his younger one, who claims the one Rin cared for was not the “current him” but “Uchiha Obito” (x, x)
Tumblr media
There’s a gap between Obito from the past and this one, who detached himself from his emotions –at this moment, when Naruto (a reflection of his former self, which is why he’s able to relate and get influenced by him) takes his hand, he finally reconnects with such part of himself (thus, also his feelings), and the allied forces are able to extract the tailed beasts' chakra from him. In short, it was a revival of past Obito, not the unearth of feelings hidden deep beneath him, as it took Naruto connecting to him through their chakra and “bringing back” kid Obito by representing him (as when Naruto himself spoke himself with the adult version, Obito still choose his path; x, x). Even if their claim is to be believed as truthful, it changes absolutely nothing around his mindset or actions, having such “positive” feelings “hidden within him” doesn’t make him any less guilty nor unredeemable.
It’s perfectly fine to want to explore Obito’s “positive traits” rather than his dark ones, as such elements were beautifully done by the canon work itself through Kishimoto’s writing; yet to claim such things are more “canonically relevant” aspects of him than the rest when Kishimoto made him a paragon of a morally good individual that the environment transformed onto one of its darkest consequences (and well prior to Madara’s intervention as he claimed he would crush the “so called shinobi” shall he need to), it’s fallacious. I found most of these claims made by shippers that refuse to see their “romantical” dynamic of choosing under any other light but the one that masks Konoha’s actual contributions to Obito’s “creation” and puts the weight of his shift under his “Uchiha nature” (COH) or Madara’s manipulation. Therefore given their pro-WoF character the status of “hero” that helps Obito overcome his dark path with the power of their love; basically skipping upon everything Obito actually represents inside the narrative that took such long time to construct him.
However, for those that want to: if such “positive” exploration is to be done, then it needs to be performed through the study of kid obito onwards, giving him either other circumstances or changing specific decisions upon Rin’s death –everything after it’s, in my personal opinion, a disservice to his wonderfully constructed character.

I'm kinda curious about the period of time when Minato was Hokage, because there's so much you could say about Konoha depending on it. It could be that I don't remember what the manga says about it too, but anyway.
We know that before Minato was Hokage, the discrimination towards jinchuurikis was high. We know it from Kushina's story. After Minato, the jinchuurikis discrimination was not exactly as bad as it could have been (and the bar is soooo low) in physical terms, but the level of sheer isolation was ridiculous. Sure, Kushina had guards and she lived in a tower with a perimeter drawn around it, one that she couldn't surpass. The difference is that Kushina knew why she was being isolated, there was someone willing to teach her about it right from the start, a family member even if distant, someone with the same experience.
All Naruto knew is that he was unwanted. He had no family, no one was willing to guide him. No, not even Iruka. I'm talking about before in the manga, before Iruka realized how much Naruto needed him and did something about it.
If that was before and after, how was it during the time Minato was Hokage?
Did Minato push for Kushina to become Hokage? Was the idea rejected? Did he get angry? It was her dream after all. Or did they realize it would be impossible so they pushed Minato to go for it? Were they sad about the idea of Kushina having to live her dream through Minato, because they wouldn't let her go for it? When did Kushina give up and change her goal in life?
Did Minato tell anyone about his plan on how to get rid of the jinchuuriki discrimination? Did he talk about it with Kushina? We know that they planned Naruto's birth and tried to make it as safe as possible. When the time to seal Kurama within Naruto came, they both knew how Konoha would treat Naruto. Minato wanted Naruto to be viewed as the son of a hero, but his wishes were thrown aside as soon as his body was cold enough.
With no law to protect the jinchuuriki of the kyubi, I wonder how bold the people of Konoha were in their discrimination against Kushina while Minato was Hokage. Times were different, Minato was highly respected and feared, but how many times did he have to tell someone to mind their words? How many times did he catch Kushina avoiding a certain restaurant or a street? Did he ever feel a slight of resentment against his home for the way they treated his wife? His pregnant wife?
Were there rumors of the child being a monster for being the son of a jinchuuriki? It could be that some Konoha parents telling their kids to not play with the little Uzumaki/Namikaze was a thing before Naruto was even born?
From what I've seen, Konoha has no gentleness for kids of prestigious lineages. Being a child of a powerful shinobi makes your life worse, in fact. A million times over: it happened to Sasuke, to Neji, it happened to Kakashi in the generation before them, it happened to Itachi in the in-between.
I don't think that being the son of the hokage would have saved Naruto for being mistreated by the village. Not when his mother was a jinchuuriki.
It just makes me wonder, you know?
In the time he had, how did Minato try to change things to protect his family?
Was it a matter of needing more time? Or there wasn't a plan at all?
