#I wonder what type of pressure was put on him while he was Hokage

I'm kinda curious about the period of time when Minato was Hokage, because there's so much you could say about Konoha depending on it. It could be that I don't remember what the manga says about it too, but anyway.
We know that before Minato was Hokage, the discrimination towards jinchuurikis was high. We know it from Kushina's story. After Minato, the jinchuurikis discrimination was not exactly as bad as it could have been (and the bar is soooo low) in physical terms, but the level of sheer isolation was ridiculous. Sure, Kushina had guards and she lived in a tower with a perimeter drawn around it, one that she couldn't surpass. The difference is that Kushina knew why she was being isolated, there was someone willing to teach her about it right from the start, a family member even if distant, someone with the same experience.
All Naruto knew is that he was unwanted. He had no family, no one was willing to guide him. No, not even Iruka. I'm talking about before in the manga, before Iruka realized how much Naruto needed him and did something about it.
If that was before and after, how was it during the time Minato was Hokage?
Did Minato push for Kushina to become Hokage? Was the idea rejected? Did he get angry? It was her dream after all. Or did they realize it would be impossible so they pushed Minato to go for it? Were they sad about the idea of Kushina having to live her dream through Minato, because they wouldn't let her go for it? When did Kushina give up and change her goal in life?
Did Minato tell anyone about his plan on how to get rid of the jinchuuriki discrimination? Did he talk about it with Kushina? We know that they planned Naruto's birth and tried to make it as safe as possible. When the time to seal Kurama within Naruto came, they both knew how Konoha would treat Naruto. Minato wanted Naruto to be viewed as the son of a hero, but his wishes were thrown aside as soon as his body was cold enough.
With no law to protect the jinchuuriki of the kyubi, I wonder how bold the people of Konoha were in their discrimination against Kushina while Minato was Hokage. Times were different, Minato was highly respected and feared, but how many times did he have to tell someone to mind their words? How many times did he catch Kushina avoiding a certain restaurant or a street? Did he ever feel a slight of resentment against his home for the way they treated his wife? His pregnant wife?
Were there rumors of the child being a monster for being the son of a jinchuuriki? It could be that some Konoha parents telling their kids to not play with the little Uzumaki/Namikaze was a thing before Naruto was even born?
From what I've seen, Konoha has no gentleness for kids of prestigious lineages. Being a child of a powerful shinobi makes your life worse, in fact. A million times over: it happened to Sasuke, to Neji, it happened to Kakashi in the generation before them, it happened to Itachi in the in-between.
I don't think that being the son of the hokage would have saved Naruto for being mistreated by the village. Not when his mother was a jinchuuriki.
It just makes me wonder, you know?
In the time he had, how did Minato try to change things to protect his family?
Was it a matter of needing more time? Or there wasn't a plan at all?

i recently read a fic where itachi and sasuke were swapped, so sasuke did the massacre etc. and the fic was short and also you have a really cool itachi characterisation, so i was wondering what you think itachi would be like in that situation? would he be similar to sasuke and want to hunt him down, would he eventually defect, would team 7 have the same dynamics? would sasuke have ever even gone through with the massacre himself, do you think?
HMMM i did some Deep Thinking about this particular role swap a while ago but I honestly don’t remember many of my thoughts about it??
Anyway, for role swap AUs, I usually think it’s the most fun if the two characters make radically different choices from canon. So if I were to tackle the concept:
it’s an age swap, not a personality or skill swap (as in, itachi is younger but he’s still the ‘genius’ of the two and vaguely anti-violence)
sasuke gets pushed a LOT more as the first child; itachi gets less attention and it’s not immediately clear he’s a genius because he likes.... skipping class and screwing around on his own, oops
so sasuke is pushed to graduate early and go into ANBU super young but also he’s starting to crack. itachi is sort of checked out of reality but also he likes his big bro best :( sasuke are you okay :( what if we went and got dango together and you didn’t worry about murder all the time :(
Sasuke and Itachi both have a few screws loose in canon, but they’re very different screws. So I think Sasuke might be straight-up gleeful about the massacre, and then spare Itachi at a semi-whim (instead of agreement with the Hokage/Danzo), OR...... I can see him losing his shit the second someone brings up killing his family as a solution, and then killing Hiruzen, Danzo, and whoever else is in the room. I like this second option better just because it gives us more differences from canon to play with. Maybe he also kills a bunch of Uchiha adults out of spite on his way out of the village? I just feel like the Sasuke version of a massacre needs to be somehow even more brutal and bloody LMAO.
New Team 7 dyanmics:
Itachi is considered sort of a weirdo by his classmates? like I’m imagining an Itachi who’s not clan heir and therefore low-key ignored (until Sasuke runs off) being sort of an “absent-minded genius” type
.....but also it’s obvious he doesn’t even TRY in all his practice spars and he still wins. annoying
anyway the point is: Ino and Sakura aren’t fighting over him, because he’s weird. They’re fighting over something else.
Sakura still thinks Naruto is SUPER annoying and dumb but also neither of them understand what wavelength Itachi is even on, so it turns into a lot of “Itachi goes off to do something without explaining, Sakura and Naruto commiserate with each other over how they don’t GET him”
Naruto goes in thinking he can be friends with Itachi, but they have O N E spar and Itachi is just like, “oh, you’re not very good.... maybe you should quit? /SHRUG” and Naruto loses his MIND. now they’re rivals. itachi you’re going down
(Itachi is frequently accidentally very mean and Kakashi keeps having to intervene. itachi W H Y did you tell Sakura she should dye her hair)
(also Itachi keeps skipping practice and leaving a clone behind or like just genjutsuing everyone and Kakashi keeps having to hunt him down, the little SHIT)
itachi likes both his teammates very much! except when they’re screaming. which they do often. why
I think Itachi would still want to hunt down missing-nin!Sasuke, but his goal is more like.... bring him home? if Sasuke left any prominent Uchiha alive, I do feel like Itachi might have external pressure from them to become the perfect shinobi and then hunt down and kill him.... but I don’t think Itachi would be very interested in actually doing this. And missing-nin!Sasuke is 1000x more violent than Itachi was in canon, but also he loves his little bro and wouldn’t hurt him if he bumped into him.
......and both of them would still put Kakashi in a genjutsu coma when he tries to intervene in their reunion. u.u

Shikamaru’s Story: Mourning Clouds
This is a post about that novel, so this naturally contains spoilers. Note that you mustn’t confuse this with the older novel about Shikamaru, Shikamaru’s Story: A Cloud Drifting In The Silent Dark. That one was written in 2015 and translated to English in 2016, while this one was written in 2018 and translated in 2021. Anyway, on to the book itself.
I have no complaints about the plot or the structure of the story. The plot was clear and didn’t really have any surprising points, yet it was still pleasing to read. I liked how some easy to understand, predictable scenes, instead of being played out with lines and all, were simply shortly explained. It didn’t have too many characters, and most were ones we already knew from the manga or the other novel. Being from mainly Shikamaru’s POV also made it easy to follow, especially since it jumped away from it only twice, once for Shikadai’s POV and once for Temari’s.
I liked the way Shikadai was included, shown in the way that a father who works all the time would see him. I also liked how the one part from Shikadai’s point of view gave us a look to what his father’s actions look like through his eyes. Of course, it’d been nice to have more of him and the new generation, but I suppose that wouldn’t have flowed well with the story.
Shikamaru also comes across as quite dark in this novel, and it makes the way he treats Kawaki in the anime and manga seem more in character. He refers to himself (and Sasuke) as Naruto’s shadow, which made me think of The Third Hokage and Danzou. I mean, Shikamaru’s clearly not as dark as the eye thief, but his actions in this novel certainly made me think of the possibility of him becoming like that. After all, world was different in Danzou’s time and by the time we get to know him, he was an old man already. If the ninja world were to go to war again and Shikamaru could protect the village better by stepping in to the darkness, who’s to say he wouldn’t? I like to think that Shikamaru wouldn’t do quite as bad things as the head of the root did, and that he’d be more regretful about whatever he’d do, but when put under pressure, Shikamaru’s actions might not differ all that much from Danzou’s. For those who are skeptic, do not forget that he wanted a child to get kidnapped by a dangerous group just so that the daimiyo would owe Konoha one. That’s low, Shikamaru, that’s low.
We also get to see Mirai, who is apparently also some type of genius, or so Shikamaru says as he recalls how his student picked up fast anything he taught her. Ro and Soku from the other novel are also back, which I loved, especially Soku’s return. Which brings us to our next subject.
So yeah, Shikamaru is an awesome character, but he can also be a little sexist and too stuck on gender roles. He tells Soku that it might be time for her to start a family already, though that would mean the loss of a good ninja, like it’s a given that she becomes a house wife if she gets married. Of course, that does seem to be a trend in Konoha, but it still puts Shikamaru in a rather bad light to be saying that. It just shows bad taste. And likewise, Shikamaru’s whole family dynamic is so cliche in the old fashioned way here that it’s kinda ew. Very in character in Shikamaru’s part and same could probably be said for Shikadai, but Temari? It’s just so hard to see that fierce ninja giving up everything just to become a housewife. Maybe it’s just a cultural difference; maybe Japanese just see it as obvious that a woman ought to give up everything she’s gained in life for family if she decides to have one or something. But still, ew. If I ever get around to writing those ShikaTema fics I’ve been planning, I’m gonna fix that issue.
One more thing is me wondering why wasn’t this in the anime. I mean, it still could be added there with some adjustments. Tento’s kidnapping has already happened in the anime, but Shikamaru could still use him being saved by Boruto’s team as a leverage against his father. Shikadai’s a chuunin in the anime, but that shouldn’t get in the way too much. And those are the only issues I can think of that would currently clash with the anime. I can think of one more in the manga, but since we’re talking about anime fillers, that’s irrelevant. And I’d kinda want to see Shikamaru carrying that huge bouquet of yellow flowers in the anime.
Anyway, that’s about it. Am I forgetting something? Probably. If I am, I might complain about it later, but oh well, for now I’m stopping here.

A New Story
A story I'm writing with my friend @safarichan. Two of her OC with two of mine. Their story along side with the canon one. Kura, Sie and Ocha belong to SafariChan. Calesta and Celeste belong to me. It starts with the Chunin Exams and goes until the end of Shippuden. Ao3 link.
The Chunin Exams are a big moment in every shinobi’s life; rather, it’s watching or entering. It doesn’t matter if it’s their first time or not. The event of the exams will forever hold a place in people’s memories. Not to mention the weight it holds on those taking the exams. It seems that the pressure doesn’t get to them for some, or they don’t show the stress. Then there is Uzumaki Naruto, who is just brushing in the room yelling.
“Who does he think he is?”
“Where does he think he is?”
“Doesn’t he know any manners?”
Are some of the questions being whispered by Kura and Sie. Kura is wearing a grey and black shirt under a red trench coat with black pants. Has short red hair. Sie is wearing a white jacket with sleeves so long they cover her hands and red shorts. Her long brown hair is in twin braids. Next to them is another one wearing an orange, dark yellow dress and white leggings underneath, all tied with a red bow around her waist. Long purple hair up in buns and pigtails. Calesta doesn’t care if this genin is acting like an idiot or not. It seems his team is yelling at him about it anyways. While her teammate stares at the new group walking in and talking, Calesta keeps her eyes forward, waiting for the exams to start.
After a short one-sided fight, the exams started. Kura is sitting in the back behind everyone. Sie is sitting next to her cousin Kiba. Calesta is sitting behind and to the right of the kid, yelling before.
The rules are simple, but the questions on the written test are not. Everyone seems to be freaking out or thinking. After about ten minutes, some figured it out and did what they needed to answer the questions.
Shino sent his bugs to help. Kiba is doing the same thing with Akamaru so is Sie with Ocha. TenTen somehow had mirrors on the ceiling to help her teammate Lee. The two Hyugas use their byakugan. Sasuke with his Sharingan. Desu uses sound to get his answers. Kura might be one of the few to know the answers. He already finished his test and is napping. Gaara uses his third eye while Kankuro asks to use the restroom. Sakura falls like she was hit with a sleeping jutsu. She was hit with a jutsu; it was Ino’s mind transfer jutsu. That’s how Ino and her team got their answers. It seems Sakura knew them like Kura.
While everyone was gathering the information they needed, Calesta was sitting there, arms folded and eyes closed. At least that what it looks like; Calesta’s eyes were open; she was looking down on the person’s paper, to her left then the right. She would look up and around at the ones there to watch for cheaters before writing down the answers. Once done, she would fold her arms and look down again.
Ibiki was true to his words. Around ten minutes left, he asked one final question after adding one more rule. We either give up now or try to answer the question; if you fail, you can’t take the chunin exams ever again. The rule sounds suspicious to Calesta; she stays, her teammate also finding the rule suspicious as well. For a minute there, everyone thought the loud boy in orange was going to quit. Instead, he slams his hand on the table, declaring once again about being Hokage someday. Making others wonder if he ever talks about anything else.
Once the room was emptied a bit due to the people choosing to leave instead of trying to answer the final question, Ibiki speaks again. To everyone’s surprise, there was no question. Everyone in the room passed the first part of the Chunin Exams. Then someone jumps in through the window and makes some flashy moves to put up a banner.
The second half of the Chunin Exams will begin the following day. A test of survival at a nice place called The Forest of Death. The rules are simple: get the other scroll and head to the tower in five days, don’t look at the scrolls until you’re inside the tower. Now everyone except your teammates are enemies. No one knows what scroll each team will have. After signing the release form, the team gets their scroll. Not only does the team get a scroll they also are giving a number. That number tells them what gate entrance they will start.
While waiting for the exams to start, Kura starts to complain, “Five days is way too long. To make it more challenging, they should make it three days.” Sie is petting Ocha. The small little dog is a bit taller than Kiba’s dog Akamaru. White just like him but brown around her ears, eyes, muzzle, paws, and tail tip. No wonder the two dogs look alike; they are from the same litter.
“I just hope I have enough treats for, Ocha,” Sie rubs her dog’s ears.
Ocha gives a little bark of approval, and Sie checks her pockets. She has plenty of treats for her dog. She sighs in relief, making Kura perform his famous eye roll. What Sie likes to call it, ‘The rolling sigh.’ Since he sighs while rolling his eyes.
Like always, Calesta doesn’t speak, staring at the gate, waiting for it to open. She doesn’t care much about anything other than getting this exam done and over with, not even if she becomes a chunin or not; at the same time, she won’t let her teammates down.
The one guarding the gate is looking at his watch. Within a few minutes, he stops looking at his watch, and walks closer to the gate, then looks back at his watch. Not even a minute later, he turns his back towards the team.
“Get ready,” he calls over his shoulder as he unlocks the gate.
With a burst of speed, the three rush through the open gate and into the forest. They don’t slow down even as they take to the trees. While jumping from tree to tree, they make plans for the exam.
“I know it’s a low blow, but I think we should target teams weaker than us,” Kura stated.
“How can we tell if a team is weaker than us?” Sie asks in an acidic tone.
“We find a team and spy on them. Hope they get into a fight,” Kura grins.
He’s quite proud of his plans, even if it’s not the best. He is the type that will go ahead without thinking things through. Once an idea is in his head, he thinks it’s good, and others should join him. Tell him no and he will either complain or throw a tantrum. Good thing his tantrums are short-lived and quiet compared to a child’s.
Sie opens her mouth to speak but is cut off by Kura, “Let’s say we watch them for a bit, like a few hours; if no fight, then we move on.”
“There are parts in your plan that will work, but sadly I don’t agree with everything,” Calesta speaks in a hushed tone.
Both team members look at her. Claesta doesn’t speak much; everyone around her who knows her pays close attention to her words when she does.
“Finding a team we can take would be ideal. You didn’t seem to consider that they may not have the scroll we need. Do you have an idea on how to find out what scroll the other team has?” Calesta’s blank stare is aimed at Kura.
Unlike her teammates, Calesta’s face always remains emotionless. Unless she trusts you, then her face will emote more. Sie is always smiling even when she’s yelling, something that bothers Kura to no end.
“After the fight, if they win, they will have both scrolls. If we think we can take them, we fight. Only take the one we need when we win,” Kura speaks with pride.
Calesta looked forward again. She seems to be satisfied with the answer. For a while, they didn’t talk to each other. Instead scanned the area, keeping an eye out for other teams and anything else the forest may toss at them.
They stopped when Sie and Ocha smelled another team and warned them. Landing on three separate branches of the same tree, the team looks for the other team that was sniffed out. They are right below them, only a few steps to the side with their backs towards them. Ocha whimpered and slid into Sie’s jacket, poking her head out on top. Sie pats the dog’s head.
“According to the headbands, they are from the Hidden Sand Village,” Kura whispers.
“Suna, from Wind country,” Sie also whispers.
Calesta closes her eyes on the team. They aren’t the only ones from Suna, but they stand out more than other Suna teams.
“We should leave. There is no way we can defeat them. If we fight, we shall die,” Calesta whispers.
“I agree,” Sie nods.
“We haven’t even seen them fight. How can you be sure?” Kura whines.
“Suna only cares about strong ninjas. They will only have strong ones here,” Sie answers.
“Then are we to avoid all teams from Suna?” Kura crosses his arms.
“No, only these three,” Calesta opens her eyes.
Outvoted, Kura sighs, and the three move on. Leaving the team below far away behind them. As soon as they took off, one of the sand ninjas looked at the spot they were just at.
“What is it, Gaara?” asked his sister.
“Nothing, let’s go,” Gaara answered.
The other two looked at each other, then the area Gaara was looking at. They shrug and follow their younger brother. Not long until another team was found from Suna again; this time, they watch them for a bit. It seems they have found a team they might be able to beat. They looked tired, maybe they had lost their scroll, or they could have overdone them self. Maybe they were in a fight and won.
“Should we?” Sie asked.
Kura and Sie look at Calesta as she stares at the team that’s currently resting.
“We attack,” Calesta answers.
Both Kura and Sie stare at her with wide eyes.
“I can see an Earth scroll. I hate to attack them while they are in a weakened state. I know how unfair life can be. A lesson all must learn. Today is their turn,” Calesta blinks, “Let’s use the Play Dead technique.”
Sie and Ocha jump down in a bush as Kura jumps across the resting team landing on a tree on the other side. Calesta kneels where she’s at.
“Did you hear that?” One of the team members stands up. He is looking at the bush Sie is now in. The others look at the bush as well.
Out pops Ocha. She is whining and limping, taking a few steps before she collapses on the ground. The only female on the team rushes towards the tiny dog.
“Poor thing is hurt. I didn’t know there were such cute doggies in this forest,” she squeals.
“This dog looks familiar,” said the only sitting team member.
Before he could put his mind on it, Ocha bites the girl petting her. Jumping back, she yelps. That’s the single for the other two to go into action, while Ocha makes a mad dash back to Sie. The team tries to run but is blocked by a wall made of earth. They decided to backtrack to find they couldn’t move and are tied up with thin metal strings. Sie comes out of the bush and casually walks up to them. Searching them all until she finds what they needed.
“Sorry about this. We need this,” she says, taking one of their scrolls.
Checking to make sure it’s the earth one. She smiles and jumps back into the tree with Kura and Calesta. Sie hands Calesta the scroll, and she puts it in her sleeve before they head to the tower.

Have You Tried Tying Them Together
For his unceasing quest to bring peace Hashirama had been called a good man by many, lauded as a kind individual with the patience of a saint and the innocent heart of a child. Many had tried to repay his kindnesses in countless different ways and he had refused them all with a smile. At the moment, he was regretting that. Hashirama wished dearly that he had taken some of the offers for a free night at this or that onsen, accepted one of the invitations to dinner at so-and-so’s table, something, anything to get him out of the predicament he currently found himself in. Even a man with endless patience grew tired of standing in between his two most precious people.
Perhaps it hadn’t been the best idea to invite his brother and his best friend out for dango at the same time. He was of course well aware of how poorly they got along but despite all hurdles he‘d encountered Hashirama clung stubbornly to the hope that someday they would see what he was trying to get at and finally realize he had a point to throwing them together like this. They had so much in common. If they would only calm down long enough to talk for two seconds he just knew they would absolutely adore each other as much as he adored them both. Unfortunately they hadn’t calmed down since they entered the dango shop and the owner was starting to look like he couldn’t decide whether to ask them to leave or to cower behind his own apron.
“It’s only right for me to have the honor,” Madara spat. “I’m the eldest.”
“You may be my elder but no one’s ever accused you of being my better,” Tobirama snapped back. “It’s not like you paid for them!”
Not that Hashirama could blame the owner, really. The poor soul was a civilian, woefully unequipped to deal with the killing intent leaking out of both of the men sitting with their Hokage. Sighing deeply, Hashirama solved the argument of who would get the last stick of dango by snatching it up himself and popping it in to his mouth. Truthfully he was already full and it was likely that this last stick of sweets would give him a bellyache but he figured that was better than continuing to sit here and listening to them squabble.
Chewing slowly, mentally giving his stomach a quick pep talk to warn it of the incoming extra food, Hashirama enjoyed the few moments of silence as both Madara and Tobirama watched him eat with matching expressions of chagrin. He knew exactly why they were looking at him like that. Equally competitive, they were both upset that he had just taken away the thing they’d been fighting over, thereby removing any chance for one of them to win the argument. They both detested the very idea of a tie when it came to their quibbles but Hashirama had already had quite enough for one day. In fact, he’d had quite enough to last him several lifetimes and he would be perfectly happy if they would never fight again. However unlikely that was. Since he had a few moments of peace anyway, he distracted himself from the inevitable bellyache by wracking his brain for a way to finally make these two boneheaded men just stop and talk like normal human beings for once.
The owner of the dango stall looked so relieved when they paid and left that Hashirama feared the man might faint. As compensation for the trouble they’d caused, he hurried his two companions away towards the training fields. A brilliant idea just occurred to him and he saw no point in waiting to put it in to action.
Somehow, he wasn’t sure how, the three of them managed to make it all the way to the farthest – and therefore most secluded – training ground without any new arguments cropping up. Oh they glared at each other of course and a few snide comments were tossed around but there was no yelling and Hashirama figured he could count that one as a win.
Upon arriving he spun around to face his brother and his friend and opened his mouth to announce the amazing idea he’d come up with. Before he could even get a single word out he was cut off as Tobirama huffed in snide amusement.
“You better hope he didn’t bring us out here to spar Uchiha. I must say, I wouldn’t mind the opportunity to grind that pudgy nose of yours in to the dirt.” Madara, of course, immediately bristled in response.
“As if you could! Bring it on Senju, I could take you any day!”
“Think so? I think you’re just a lot of big talk.”
“Well I think my nose isn’t pudgy!”
Running his hands down his face with a groan, Hashirama gave in before he could even try. It was easy to see that neither of them were in the mood to listen and he knew all too well how little effect his nagging would have once they actually started growing violent. Informing them of his idea could wait for tomorrow. Or never. Right now it seemed he would have to take action without letting them know what was going on first but that was alright. They were both very smart men, surely they would figure it out on their own.
Almost as a sign of divine providence Madara had only just stepped closer to Tobirama, getting right up in his face, at just the same moment that Hashirama brought his hands together to mold his chakra. Neither of the men before him had enough time to react before suddenly the ground beneath their feet exploded with thick vines that wrapped about their bodies and trapped them in place – together. As they shouted in surprise the vines thickened and settled in to sturdy beams of wood holding them chest to chest no matter how much they struggled and swore.
With his hand on his hips, beatific smile in place, Hashirama looked at his work with satisfaction. They weren’t very happy about their situation obviously but he didn’t care one single whit about that. He had suffered through enough of their arguments so far. Let them suffer through the end of his patience now. They were going to see the light if he had to smother them both to get them there.
“Anija!” Tobirama hollered, spluttering out a mouthful of Madara’s hair. “Have you gone mad!?”
“What is the meaning of this, Hashirama!” Madara’s face was red with anger, his entire body practically vibrating as he tried to squirm. The wood held him fast but he looked ready to squirm all day if it freed him. It wouldn’t.
“Get me out of here, Anija!”
“No thank you,” Hashirama chirped. “Have fun you two!”
Feeling a lot more cheerful now than he had only half an hour ago, he tucked both hands inside his sleeves and strolled away, humming tunelessly to himself. Tonight was Mito’s turn to make dinner and he wondered if maybe she might be amenable to some ‘light exercise’ before she began cooking. He was so full from the dango that he could certainly do with working off some of the calories and that seemed to him a pleasant way to do so. Perhaps when his belly wasn’t feeling quite so heavy anymore he might check on his two favorite stubborn men but if they still weren’t getting along by then he was quite prepared to leave them out in the cold all night.
Strong shinobi were quite used to that type of thing and his precious people were all very strong shinobi.
Left behind, Madara and Tobirama shouted threats and insults at the man’s retreating back until long after he had passed out of sight. There followed perhaps a single beat of silence after the shouting finally died down before their glares turned to each other, so close their brows were nearly touching and the daggers they were trying to shoot at each other with their eyes were in true danger of piercing skin.
“You’re related to him,” Madara felt compelled to point out.
“Believe me, the second I get out of this mess and kill you he’s my next target.”
“Still experiencing delusions of grandeur? You couldn’t take me even if I had one hand tied behind my back, you frost-bitten stiff-necked worm!”
“Worm? Really? That’s the best you can do?”
“It’s hard to think with your disgusting face so close to mine.”
“Maybe if you had more than two brain cells to rub together they would work better under pressure.”
“Fuck you!”
“Go fuck yourself!”
Scrunching his face in to a bastardized cross between scowl and smirk, Madara lifted one eyebrow just to complete the look. “How would that even work?” he asked.
After a few seconds of blatant staring Tobirama determined that the other man was actually trying to figure out the mechanics of being told to fuck himself. It was like all the fighting energy in his body were put on pause for a moment while he thought hard about something that really didn’t deserve any thought at all. He couldn’t let that stand, of course. If the two of them were going to be tied face to face and he was required to stare at this idiot for kami only knew how long then the attention was bloody well going to stay on him.
“If you like I can draw you a very anatomically correct diagram once we get the hell out of this.” He tried for his usual confident leer and the expression was only mildly ruined by the heat of another body pressed so closely to his own. When was Hashirama coming back?
“Hmph.” Madara turned his nose up, gravity pulling the hair away from his face. “I don’t need any help from you in that department.”
“Which department was that? Learning how to better make a fool of yourself? I’m well aware of your skills there.”
There was no pleasure on earth quite like watching Madara attempt to flail as he usually did without being able to move any of his limbs. Several of the thick vines around them creaked as if in rebuke but none of them loosened so much as an inch. With the strength his brother usually put in to his jutsu, even without meaning to, Tobirama guessed that they could probably squirm and struggle until darkness closed in on them without ever making any progress. If they were going to get out of this they probably needed to work together. Life truly was cruel.
“Stop fidgeting,” he demanded. “We need to put our heads together.”
“I am not fidgeting! Obviously I’m- I’m- just shut up and do something!”
Grateful that at least his shins weren’t being kicked, Tobirama sighed. “That is precisely what I was trying to suggest. Doing something.”
“Then do it!”
“Maybe I would if you would help me!”
“Hmph!”
Dropping his chin back down brought a great deal of Madara's hair cascading between their faces in a most distracting manner but there wasn’t much he could do about it other than blow crossly from the corners of his mouth. Tobirama watched the bow shape his lips made until he realized what he was doing.
“If I know my brother then these are undoubtedly living vines. He has a terrible habit of leaving his chakra behind in everything. And watching. It’s quite invasive, actually.”
“What, so you’re saying he can probably see us right now?” Madara's eyes dipped to the wood, looking scandalized.
“Something like that,” Tobirama agreed. “Not see us exactly but more that they carry his will. It’s difficult to explain. That’s not my point; if we make an effort at least to get along I’m sure that will get us out of this and we can both pretend it never happened.”
That, apparently, was the wrong thing to say.
“Am I so disgusting to you that you can’t stand to even think about me!?” Madara glared as best he could with one eye now completely covered with hair. It was a rather decent look, actually.
“Have we not made our opinions of each other quite clear by now?” Tobirama asked. If he added enough scorn to his voice it might even have sounded close to his usual vitriol. Something must have wavered in his tone however as Madara looked away as though uncomfortable and mumbled something under his breath. Tobirama would have given half his chakra stores to know what thoughts were running through that impossible mind.
Though he waited no immediate answer came, which was probably for the best. Nothing good could possibly come from discussing the truth of how they interacted with each other on a daily basis. There were few things Tobirama thought he would enjoy less than having his motivations for certain behaviors questioned by one of the few people who were smart enough to figure out when he was lying. Madara was far from a stupid man. It was one of the reasons he made a surprisingly effective administrator.
It was also one of the reasons Tobirama found it so amusing when, like now, his cheeks dusted pink as his emotions rapidly overtook his rational sense. Riling him up was only too easy – he always did half the work himself in his own head.
“What do you suggest then?” It took ages for words to come but when they did Madara was all business.
“Do you have any control over your chakra?”
“Listen here Senju–!”
“Because I do not. Anija’s mokuton is capable of chakra blocking properties.” Tobirama leveled the other man with a judging stare. “If you will remember, that is how he was able to assist Mito in capturing the kyuubi.”
“Ah. Right.” Madara subsided, looking almost ashamed of his outburst.
Wishing dearly that he could fiddle with his hands as he so often did when thinking, Tobirama graciously decided he could let that go. No matter how easy it was starting a fight right now would not help either of them.
“So why don’t you think us out of here, genius boy?”
Exceptions could be made to good judgement, however. Tobirama narrowed his eyes.
“I don’t know, idiot, why don’t you do that yourself?”
“Oi!”
And just like that the tentative quiet was broken. Just like every other time they got anywhere close to their own version of reluctant peace it lasted no more than half a minute before the two of them began shouting in each other’s faces again. It was the same old song and dance. Everything led back to violence with them.
Well, it led back to aggression which all too often paved the way for violence. Considering their restricted positions Tobirama hadn’t expected any sort of violence at the moment and watching Madara struggle to free his limbs could have almost convinced him to show a little gratitude to his brother for trapping them so well. Almost. Whatever good will he might have had immediately crumbled to dust when the vines around their bodies shifted ever so slightly to bring them even closer together. It was a clear message from Hashirama that they needed to get along, a message that he would have been much more likely to heed if not for one thing.
Now they were kissing.
Head bowed forward as he tried to butt the Senju annoying him, Madara's face was in just the wrong spot when Tobirama was shoved forward, pressing their lips together with mockingly gentle pressure. Immediately, understandably, both of them froze. To Tobirama’s horror he found himself unable to look away as his mind automatically began cataloguing new and interesting details about a face he tried so hard not to notice on most days.
It was only when Madara's face achieved a very special shade of red unique to him alone that both of them were jolted back in to motion, twisting their faces apart to gasp for air.
“WHAT THE HELL!?” were the man’s predictable first words.
“That clearly wasn’t me!” Tobirama insisted.
“You- you kissed me!”
“I did not!”
Somehow Madara looked even more scandalized. “And you didn’t even mean it!?”
“…what?”
“Cruel! Indecent!” Unaware of the strange looks Tobirama was giving him Madara ranted on in high dudgeon. “It’s terrible enough of you to take advantage of me at such a moment but to mock me for the things I can’t control, I never knew you were so terrible! Just because I have these damnable feelings does not mean I’m going to let you play with me for your own amusement!”
“Feelings?” Shock kept him frozen barely half an inch from the other’s face but Tobirama couldn’t think clearly enough to try for more distance.
His confusion went unnoticed.
“Obviously! Don’t pretend that wasn’t deliberate! If you knew how I felt about you then you could have at least just ignored me instead of seeking me out all the time to be mean! Always so mean and sarcastic!”
“You’re mean and sarcastic too!” he couldn’t help pointing out.
“Well it’s just to throw you off the scent!” Madara swallowed, adding at half the volume, “I don’t deal with emotions very well.”
“Tell me about it,” Tobirama murmured faintly.
For a long time they merely hung suspended and stared at each other again. None of the red had faded at all from Madara's cheeks but in light of these new discoveries Tobirama could finally admit to himself that maybe – maybe – he sort of thought it was a cute look. Madara had a lot of cute looks, most of them achieved when he was flailing about reacting poorly to his own emotions just as he’d said.
And wasn’t it just their luck that the exact same thing Tobirama had been doing to guard his own heart, Madara had been doing as well? Sometimes it felt like the two of them were damned to miscommunicate about everything important.
“I’ll make you a deal,” he offered finally. “You don’t mentioned anything about being stupid and I won’t mention anything about being stupid. Got it?”
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” Madara scrunched his face together in confusion.
Rather than waste time explaining Tobirama did as he’d been denying he wanted to do for months, leaning forward that precious half inch and kissing the older man as best he could from such an awkward position. For the short few seconds that it lasted it was nice. Pleasant. Warm and gentle, nothing they had ever dared to be for each other before and everything they had both been quietly dreaming of. Those moments stretched out in to blissful eternity before they were so rudely interrupted as the vines holding them together trembled and released without warning.
They went down together with sharp cries of dismay, the ground rising up to meet them even as the mokuton almost seemed to shrink in to itself and wither. If the wood had a mouth it would not have been surprising to hear it whimper. As it was all that could be heard in the empty training ground was the grumbling of two men not at all happy to have their intimate moment ruined.
“Let’s kill him,” Madara grunted from where he lay sprawled out on his back glaring up at the sky.
“Maybe later,” Tobirama said. “I think we have more important things to talk about first.” He let his head roll to the side, watching Madara do the same and attempting a smile when their eyes met. “My place or yours?”
“Here’s fine.”
With no more warning than that Madara rolled, one leg swinging up and over until he sat astride Tobirama’s hips, leering down at him with all the confidence that put such a delicious swagger in his walk everywhere he went. He didn’t seem particularly worried about the possibility that someone might chance upon them out here in the open but then Tobirama was hardly going to be the one to put a stop to things now. Burying his fingers in all that wild dark hair and pulling their lips back together was a much more interesting use of his time and it also came with the unexpected bonus of hearing a low rolling moan as it rumbled up through Madara's chest.
And as it turned out the man was right. Right here was just fine, a fine place to start channeling their passions in to something they could both enjoy.
On the other side of the village Hashirama sat up in his bed with both arms hugging his own chest, shivering while his wife pet his hair soothingly and crooned in his ear. For the fourth time in a row she asked him what was wrong and finally he managed to swallow past the lump in his throat to answer.
“I felt them kissing!” he cried. “It was horrible!”

New Blood (a Kakashi Hatake x OC fic) - Chapter One
Warnings: Use of violence, violence, use of knives, swearing, drinking, death mention, death
Read on AO3 or below the line
As the sun began to rise, Kakashi swung his legs over his bed. Stretching his bare body high in preparation for what the day would bring. Whether that was a mission or battle. Grateful for the previous day of rest, Kakashi couldn’t deny he was beginning to feel the pressures of being shinobi.
Orochimaru had caused devastation around the village. Buildings destroyed, lives taken, and the Third Hokage gone. Because of this, manpower was scarce and in an attempt to assure the village appeared just as strong as before to outside eyes, missions continued to be carried out. Despite shinobi in the village being stretched thinner than rice paper.
To make matters worse, Sasuke Uchiha left the village in pursuit of power and revenge. A squad being sent after him to recover him only ended in disastrous results. The village was lucky not to lose anyone but still two members of the squad were left in critical condition while the rest were in need of proper rest. Unfortunately, this left Kakashi to fill in any gap that was in need of filling.
With a book in hand, Kakashi quickly ate breakfast before he prepared himself for the day. Flak vest on, knives packed, headband fastened around his head, Icha Icha packed in the breast pocket of his vest. Ready for what the day may bring.
“Kakashi, you're needed on an A Grade mission. Intel for a client I’m unable to name at this time. You’ll be leaving tomorrow at dawn” Tsunade had said as soon as he arrived at her office, surrounded by paperwork.
“Who is on this squad?”
“It’s a two person squad. You and Gai”
Ah yes. Another Gai and Kakashi adventure. He had been wondering when he would have another one of those. At least this mission should be amusing with Gai tagging along.
“I see. Is that all?”
“No, actually I’ve been meaning to talk to you. I’ve decided because this village is in need of manpower, we need more genin trained to be prepared for anything Orochimaru or anyone else may throw at us. So I’ve outsourced some chunin from across the country to come to Konoha and help prepare the genin for the chunin examinations. We’ll be holding them earlier than usual”
“So where does this leave me?”
“You’re one of the best we have right now. I need you focused on missions. Because Naruto is under Jiraiya now and Sasuke has gone to Orochimaru, Sakura will be trained by someone else”
“Then who will continue her training?”
“Maia Setsudan,” Tsunade said as she slid the folder over to Kakashi.
Kakashi opened it. A picture of a young woman stared back at him. Long brown hair, dark brown eyes, light skin. A serious look on her face. The record itself was thin. No missions, no history of her training, no rank. Just her basic details and stats.
“I don’t mean to question your judgment but this woman has not been trained in any type of jutsu, by anyone”
Despite all of that, her record appeared clean. Nothing sticking out at him, her stats however pointed to her abilities being of a jonin level and this confuses him greatly.
“Not officially no but I’ve seen her skills and she owes me a favour” Tsunade smiled. “The others are at least chunin, yes they did not continue their training but I’m assured they’ll assist the students in any way they can”
“My decision is final. This is only temporary Kakashi”
Kakashi accepted the decision, walking out of the office. He would never doubt Hokage, never disobey Hokage. They were Hokage for a reason but Tsunade had to have lost her mind.
__________________________________________________
In a little clearing, surrounded by trees stood two out of three of Mais Setsudan’s students.
“Hello, I’m glad to meet you both. And I’m sure it will be good to meet Sakura when she gets back. Nevermind that. I’m Maia, just Maia. No need to call me sensei or anything else. I’m just here to help you guys out”
“Now my speciality is knives. Knives are dangerous weapons if you use them right. You can hit your opponents chakra points if you aim them precisely, with agility and speed you can slice your opponent to ribbons.”
“But it would be foolish of me not to have other stances to fall back on. My belief is that ninja should always have a form that acts as both offence and defence”
Kakashi sat hidden in the trees, legs firmly planted on a branch, watching as this woman gave her students a lecture. Stances that enabled both defence and offence of course was a good idea in theory, but realistically sometimes you weren’t able to do so.
“Ma’am-Maia I’m not really skilled in defence” a student, Moto, quietly spoke.
Nodding to himself, Kakashi understood that this wasn’t realistic for every student. Some were just not capable of performing such jutsu, mostly countering this with other stances to make up for it. Knowing your weakness was as important as knowing your strengths. He would give this Maia Setsudan the benefit of the doubt, maybe she would prove to be a capable mentor after all.
“And that’s okay. At your age I was only learning offence but I also learnt how to defend too eventually”
At your age? So she did have training. Nothing formal that Kakashi could see on her record so the question was: who trained her?
Konoha was in a compromising situation as it was these days. Last thing they needed was someone coming into the village and turning out to be a spy for someone that did not have Konoha’s best intentions at heart.
“Look I’ll show you” Maia said, getting herself into stance.
She began running in circles slowly, a wall of wind slowly forming at her feet and growing towards the treetops, forming to incase her in a dome.
“When I say so, throw your kunai at me” Maia ordered.
As she continued to run in circles, increasing her speed, the dome began to form fully. To Kakashi this was a basic wind wall, nothing special or out of the ordinary.
“Now!”
Moto threw his kunai at the dome but on impact the kunai bounced off the dome, flying back towards the student. Kakashi was ready to move and catch it if necessary, getting into position but as he moved to leap, something stopped him. It was Maia leaving her wind dome, running to the kunai and grabbing it before it was inches away from the student’s eye.
“Why didn’t you block or dodge?” she simply asked, no anger in her tone.
“I-I don’t know it’s like my brain froze”
“Well...just don’t do that on the battlefield…”
She was fast, sure but that was dangerously close and maybe Tsunade should be informed that a student almost got seriously injured during the first day of training.
“With the wall, I generate enough speed to defend myself and if my wall is attacked then my wall deflects my opponents attacks back onto them. This includes attacks involving chakra too”
Attacks involving chakra? How could this be? It only stunned Kakashi because it was a basic move weaponised into something more. His suspicions lead him to the conclusion that the dome was infused with low levels of chakra.
“I can also move with my wall meaning my opponents will be knocked over or caught in the wind trap. A basic form can be transformed and with enough training you can use these basic forms as weapons. My wall works for me because of how comfortable I am with speed but we will find where your skills lie and match your forms to that”
Kakashi had watched the rest of the lesson. Waiting for Maia to slip up, give him a reason to run to Tsunade and tell her she’s made a massive mistake but the almost kanui to the eye was the only slip up Maia had made.
She was attentive to the students. Focusing on their strengths and their weaknesses, giving them small adjustments to help chakra flow. It was a very basic lesson but Maia was becoming familiar with the students and this was the best way to do it.
“Next time I want you two to fight each other. Friendly clean match. I just want to see how you do your thing”
That was lesson over, Maia and her students parting ways into the forest and back to the village.
Shadowing her through the forest, Kakashi watched as she walked on her own. For someone so fast she sure enjoyed dawdling along, taking in the trees and the flowers along her path. Maia was an attractive young woman, Kakashi wouldn’t deny that. Her method, from first impression, seemed fine despite the almost injury but Kakashi wasn’t always going to be hidden in the treetops waiting for her to slip up. Despite all of this, a bigger question remained. Who was she? Because if she was a spy or collecting intel for someone then this put Konoha in jeopardy. Even if she knew Tsunade, doesn’t mean others close to the village hadn’t betrayed it before.
Kakashi decided to continue shadowing her through the village. Figure out what kind of character she truly was. Maybe she would prove him right, meet with some contact in the shadows and show him that her intentions were not so pure as they appeared.
Instead of some thrilling spy chase, Kakashi found Maia’s time in the village quite uneventful. She had taken quite some time picking out ingredients at the food stalls, Kakashi could feel himself yawning as she weighed up two carrots. Maia continued to walk around the market, stopping at a bookstore. A copy of some smutty romance novel in hand as she walked out of the store. Kakashi’s eyebrow rose, he himself was a lover of erotic fiction. Perhaps she was as big a pervert as he was, not that he’d openly admit he was a pervert or anything.
He had been shadowing her for a while before he lost her in the crowd. In the streets now instead of the rooftops. Kakashi frowned for a moment as he scanned the crowd, no sign of her anywhere. Still he continued to walk through the crowd, pretending to be minding his own business.
“Can I help you with something?” A voice said to his right, almost making him jump in the air.
Looking to its owner, he found Maia Setsudan. Height wise she came up to his neck, a little shorter than him but she had glared at him as if she was seven inches taller than him. Brown onion in hand ready to pelt him.
“You were up in the trees during my lesson and now you’re following me through the streets. What do you want?”
She knew he was there? How? Kakashi frowned. He’s not detected by just anyone, let alone a ‘shinobi’ with no formal training and Maia was starting to catch on to that.
“Your hair was sticking out from the tree you were watching me from” she laid it out plainly. “Then I saw you on the rooftop at the market”
Kakashi still was yet to say anything, he just couldn’t believe he had picked a terrible hiding spot to begin with.
“No need to frown. If anything I should be the one frowning. I don’t appreciate being followed”
“I’m Kakashi Hatake, Sakura’s mentor” Kakashi finally spoke.
“Ah… I see. You were just making sure your student was in good hands and I can assure you she is” Maia seemed to be beginning to warm up to him despite him shadowing her. Understanding the concern a past mentor may have for his student.
“Can I ask who trained you?”
There it was, the question Maia hated being asked the most. Her smile has started off as genuine but now she started to smile sweetly, a way to hide her frustration. She told Tsunade she would be well behaved. It was a shame he had to ask, she really was warming up to him.
“A shinobi who left his village”
“A missing-nin?”
“Yes. Is that all?” Maia said directly, her patience fading rather quickly. What is this? Interrogation hour?
“What gave you the idea to allow Moto to throw a knife at your shield if you knew it would rebound back at him?”
“Well… I guess my expectations for formally trained ninja of his level were too high” she said, a puff of air leaving her nose in the form of laugh, “but I’m sure you would have stepped in if I had neglected to do so”
Kakashi swallowed hard. She was trying to playing games with him, something he didn’t care too much for. He could stand around all day, taking her quips but he truly had better things to do.
“If that’s all, it was good to meet you Kakashi Hatake.” she said as she walked by, refusing to look back at Kakashi as she left him standing in the crowd alone.
Maia’s happy place was always in the kitchen. No matter how busy her mother was, working two jobs to support them, she always had time to cook dinner. Maia would watch, standing on a wooden crate, helping peel vegetables and wash rice. It’s no wonder she became a chef.
Cooking was second nature, so was holding a knife. She had cooked her mee goreng, sat herself on the couch shovelling it into her mouth as she dived into the new novel she had bought that day.
Descriptions of lust and sensual touching filled Maia’s focus. It had been a very long time since she let a man into her life, let alone in her bed. But it was okay, she lived vicariously through characters in fictional worlds getting their rocks off instead.
As she turned the page, throwing a noodle into her mouth, her attention wandered to the man following her today. Kakashi Hatake.
One day long ago, her master had told her the story of the child prodigy of Konoha. The kid that made his own jutsu, a jutsu so powerful it could cut a lightning bolt in half. Maia remembered how her master told her that one man should not be capable of all that power and destruction and now Maia had stood face to face with him.
Though she felt as if she stood her ground, she still couldn’t help but feel intimidated by the man. For him to question her abilities and asking questions about her training just showed Maia that he was someone she had something to prove to. To prove she was a capable mentor and a capable shinobi. Not only to him but to the whole village, possibly even the world.
__________________________________________________
Maia ran through the forest, searching for the man she saw wander through earlier. Everyday this man would disappear into the forest and Maia would watch the village gates, waiting for him to return. This day, with her mother working a double shift, she bunked off school, instead she would follow him.
She came to a halt when she heard a sound, like a knife scraping on wood. Creeping slowly, Maia approached a shrub to hide, taking notice of the sound of her footsteps. There she crouched, her heartbeat flooding her ears. She thought she had gone unnoticed until-
“I can hear you” the man said, sitting alone in the forest on a rock, sharpening a stick with his kunai.
A young Maia popped her head out behind the large shrub, shy but curious.
“Are you a shinobi sir?”
“I used to be” the man said, unbothered.
“I thought they killed shinobi that ran away”
“They do but they haven’t found me yet”
Maia took a moment to absorb what the man truly said. He was on the run, jumping from town to town till he would eventually die.
“Can you teach me?”
“No way, the last thing I need is something kid exposing me to the whole village”
“But sir, I think I’m meant to be a shinobi”
“Yeah and? Every kid does”
“No, look”
Maia had begun running, running and running in circles. Her speed was unusual for her age, not as great as it would be when she grew older but still impressive. Maia had practised this for months, hoping to impress him so he’d take her on as his student. He began to stroke his chin in thought. Maybe this kid could be shinobi after all, however the shinobi way had the potential to be isolating, trapping. Once that was your path you could never leave and if you did, you’d be on the run for the rest of your life.
“What's the name kid?” the old man asked.
“I’m Maia!”

Chapter One: Stranger Walking the Streets
Exhausted.
Sweaty.
Feet hurt.
I was so close to arriving at the village, but my whole body ached. Maybe I should take a quick break, I can't handle having anymore sweat get caught in my eyes, that burns! After making my decision, I quickly head to my right to the big tree with a lot of shade to offer. I nearly cried at how cool and refreshing getting under the tree was, I made the right choice, any longer and surely I would've passed out.
I slowly inhale and exhale as I let my body cool down, even with minimal clothing couldn't battle this heat. I really should have taken up aunt Tsunade's offer, maybe having someone escort me wouldn't have been so bad. But too bad me and my pride got in the way after imagining being paraded into the village, and letting it be known I was Lady Hokage's niece. I'd probably be painted as a spoiled brat. I would hate to be only known as the Hokage's niece and having nothing more to my name. My stomach growled as I lamented over the scenarios I imagined when arriving to the village, the leaf village that is. Might as well eat my lunch that I was saving, it sure as heck sounds delicious.
I grab my backpack, and open it to find the container that I put my food in, I decided to pack myself some riceball, and luckily I wasn't dumb enough to not forget to put an ice pack to keep it cool. I slowly take out the items, I had my rice balls, and my drink, both sure to satisfy me of my hunger and thirst. I only packed three rice balls, but I'm sure they were enough to keep me tamed for a while, and I can always get more food at the village restaurants.
As I was taking time to eat my food, I heard some the leaves in the tree rustle and see the birds fly away in the distance. I wonder what that's about? I continued to munch on my rice ball, enjoying the afternoon in the cool shade as I suddenly heard clashing nearby. I'm going to hope that what I'm imagining isn't actually going down. Whatever it may be, I wasn't going to stay and stick around to find out. I quickly pack up my things, and leave out my riceball to eat while running away from here. With a piece of rice ball in my mouth, and me sprinting as fast as I can, I hardly pay attention to my surroundings as I hear the clashing die down.
I looked back at where the noise was coming from originally, that must have been a fight going on. Thank God I got out of there when I did, I chuckled to myself, that would've been bad if I was caught up in that mess. I wince when I felt myself hit something, damn, I must have run into a tree were my initial thoughts. Laying on my butt and rubbing my head and shoulder as they were in pain, it took me a minute to register what happened as I couldn't focus.
"What's a pretty lady like you doing here?" I hear a very deep and ruff voice say. I guess I spoke way too soon, and reacted way too late.
Before I knew it, the man grabbed my arm and pulled me up so fast that I couldn't even catch a glimpse of his face. He put his arms around my waist, making sure to not leave my arms unattended, I struggled against him but he was too strong, I didn't stand a chance. I wouldn't even be in this position if I were a ninja, and hopefully my training at the leaf village will help me. That is if I even survive this disaster, I thought to myself. I looked down at his legs and noticed the belt of weapons he had around his thighs. This man was a ninja himself, and did not come here with good intentions. Crap, what am I suppose to do? I can't fight him—hell, I can't even get out of his grip! I was helpless, you wished that someone would come to your rescue and hopefully this guy's opponent was still around.
I started to scream for help, as the man forgot to cover my mouth, he tried to keep my quiet but my screams got louder, no way I wasn't going to at least try. I kept screaming for the life of me and thrashing myself around to add to the noise from my screams. I beginning to lose my voice, getting desperate, I knew the man could hear my voice falter as he began to laugh to himself. I felt something fly past above my head, and hit at the man's shoulder. That stopped both my screaming and his laughter, he started groaning in pain. I quickly see what cause that, and notice a clean slice through his clothes at this shoulder, he was bleeding. Finally someone else was here.
"Who did that?! Come out!" The man demanded.
In the distance, I could see a glowing red eye? The person who threw the knife came out from the tree. As he slowly approached, I noticed his features. He had silver hair that literally looked as if it defied gravity, he was quite tall and had a mask covering half of his face, he screamed mysterious. I quickly took notice of his clothing, the symbol on his uniform caught my attention. He was from the leaf village! Which made me even more worried because we're in leaf village territory. What is he doing here fighting the ninjas of the village? He must be really bad. And here I was, being held by that same man who's most likely going to kill me.
"Let her go," said the gray-haired ninja, he never broke eye contact with the man.
I felt a chuckle come from the man's lips, and slowly put a knife towards my throat. He didn't answer the leaf ninja.
"I'm not going to tell you again! This is between you and me, leave her alone!" He yelled.
My kidnapper essentially responded back, "Why should I let such a pretty girl go? Besides, I'm quite more interested in her than play fighting with you."
His answer seemed to piss off the ninja even more. In a blink of an eye, I felt the man lose his grip on me as he groaned in pain, what just happened? He lowered the knife and proceeded to fall onto the ground. I didn't even see anything happen, he just seem to lose his stance and strength. I looked between the ninja and the man, the ninja was still in the same spot, he didn't even move. I noticed his red eye again, and it seemed to glow more than when I first noticed it. The ninja walked over to me, adjusting his headband to cover his eye. I stood there frozen as he approached.
"Well looks like I won't have to deal with him for while," he said. He the kicked the guy, he was out cold basically.
He noticed my lack of response, "Are you alright? Being in that type of situation is never fun."
"Yes, I think I'm alright. Thank you," I say finally finding my voice again.
I quickly dust myself off and get myself together. I run over to where my backpack is, thanking the Lord that I didn't lose it. My stomach growled even louder than before, almost being kidnapped sure makes you hungry. I sit down, put my backpack in my lap after retrieving my lunchbox, I had two rice balls left at least. I sigh over the fact that my first rice ball was done for once I felt the man grab me, making me toss it to the ground, I look over to the remaining pieces on the dirt. I hear footsteps approach me, and it startled me slightly but then I remembered the leaf ninja, I should probably thank him about a hundred times more for saving my life.
"Got any extras?" I look up and see him pointing at my lunch.
I nod slowly, and extending out my lunch box to give him my remaining rice ball. He takes it, and turns away to eat it. He probably didn't want to show his face to a stranger, understandable. We both eat our food in silence before I break it.
"Thank you again for saving me, I didn't stand a chance against him," I say.
"It's not a problem, I had some unresolved business with him anyway, he just gave me more of reason to kick his ass," he chuckled, and I could hear the slight munching of food coming from him.
"I'm assuming you're from the leaf village?" I ask, maybe he can show me the way there.
"You are correct, I was taking a stroll outside the village when I found him lurking around," the ninja says, gesturing his head to the man on the ground.
He finishes eating, pulls up his mask and turns to face me. As I look at him, even with the mask on, I can tell he's quite attractive. I wouldn't mind having a cute ninja escort to the leaf village.
"Is there any chance you can continue to be my knight in shining amor? I really need to get to the leaf village quickly," I teasingly ask.
The ninja looks visibly flustered as he was not expecting that, but he nodded in agreement.
"I was heading back there anyway." He starts beginning to walk away.
I pack my things, and put my backpack on. As I get up, I feel a sharp pain in my thigh. I wince and grab my leg, the ninja looks back at me worried. I look over at my leg, and see a cut there at the side. The man must have accidentally cut me when he fell down, and I probably didn't even notice since I was terrified and confused during the whole altercation. I put pressure on my thigh and the ninja softly touched my shoulder.
"Are you okay? What happened?" He questions.
"I think the guy cut me and I didn't even notice," I say in pain. I try to walk it off but I can barely walk.
The ninja stops me, and places me on his back, "Don't strain yourself, I'll take you back like this," he assured me.
I don't say anything in response but just wrap my arms around him, as he starts heading towards the village. I softly rest my head on his shoulders as he passes by the trees in the forest. It shouldn't be that long until we reach the village, especially since this silver-haired ninja is quite fast. He felt warm and cozy, so hopefully we didn't arrive too quickly.
                      .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
The silence that fell upon was soon interrupted by the ninja speaking.
"You know, I'm quite curious... what's your name?," He asks me.
"Oh, it's (y/n). What's your name since we're asking questions now?"
"Kakashi Hatake, from the Leaf Village as you know," he said with a smile.
His first and last name had a nice ring to it. I liked it, I decided. I pulled myself closer to him as I felt myself slowly start to slip, as I did so he tightened his grip on me.
"Got anymore questions, Kakashi Hatake?." I hear a soft stifled laugh come from him.
"To be honest, I'm wondering why a girl like you is  going to the Leaf Village—" He quickly stops the words flowing from his mouth, probably noticing the flirtatious tone he had. "—You know for safety reasons, in case I have to fight you now instead of later."
"My family wants me to learn how to be a ninja," I sheepishly say.
It was a bit embarrassing that I was eighteen years old, when most beginner ninjas aren't even teenagers yet!
"Ninja, huh? So you're going to be training at the Leaf Village?," he questions.
"Yeah, I'm not sure how long the process takes but I hear that it's a long process."
"That you are quite right, it's rigorous. Sure you're up for it?" Kakashi asks me worryingly.
"Well sadly, I can't always have a cute silver-haired ninja randomly show up and save me all the time," I tease some more, and I see him face the other way. He was blushing I knew it!
"Who knows, maybe I can always be available for you," he teases back.
Now it was my turn to blush, I let out a quiet chuckle. I was not expecting him to flirt back.
"Maybe I would very much like that," I softly whispered in his ears.
Kakashi was going to respond to what I said before, he started slowing down and informed that we have arrived at the Leaf Village. He carefully puts me down, and we walk together as we approached the gates. I noticed two men guarding the place. They waved at Kakashi but soon had a confused look on their faces as they saw me.
"Who's the girl, Kakashi?" The one with a toothpick yelled out.
Kakashi sighed, clearly not wanting to answer but did anyway, "She's here to train."
They both nodded, and waved their hands to let us know we could pass the gates. I was soon greeted with how the Leaf Village looked like. There were a lot of shops, and I saw little kids running around playing, older people were taking strolls and shopping, and overall the atmosphere felt warm and cozy. It was very welcoming, you usually didn't feel this with every village, I was starting to like the village already. Although Kakashi and I didn't speak as we walked through the streets, I could tell he wanted to keep me in his presence and I felt the same way, he had this inviting feeling towards him.
We soon began to have small talk, and I noticed that people were staring at us. I'm not sure if I'm going crazy but maybe Kakashi is a big hot shot here in the village, I definitely wouldn't be surprised if he was, he seemed pretty amazing to me. But the stares, as the more I noticed it, the creepier it was. Maybe I should ask him.
"Kakashi, are people staring at us?" I bluntly ask.
"Yeah they are, they've been doing it since we've walked past the gates but I don't really mind," Kakashi says calmly, this clearly didn't affect him.
"Do you know why?"
"Probably because you're the first girl I've been seen with who's not been arrested," He answers.
"Oh." It was all I could say.
We still walk, and then it dawns on me, I'm suppose to meet up with Tsunade as soon as I got to the village. Shit! She's probably worried, I was already running late before I almost got kidnapped but she's most likely panicking inside if I don't show up anytime soon! I'm sure Kakashi wouldn't mind taking me to her.
"Um, Kakashi—" He looks at me. "—Is there any way you could bring me to Lady Hokage's office, I really need to see her."
"I was needing to head over there anyway, I need to fill out a report about that man we encountered outside the village," Kakashi explains.
Before I knew it, he's picking me up once again and is running by everyone. All I see are quick flashes of people's faces as they notice what Kakashi is doing. I wasn't expecting my first day at the village to be like this. I can smell food in the air as he passes by a ramen shop, and my stomach growls a bit. I hope he didn't hear that.
Soon enough, we're at the building where Tsunade is. He lets me down once again, and I give him a puzzled look about why he gave me another piggyback ride.
"Your cut." He points to the cut on my leg.
I forgot about that, I should probably get it checked out by Tsunade when I see her. At least it doesn't hurt as much as it did when we both noticed it.
"We should probably go together... since you know, you need to see her and so do I" Kakashi says quietly.
"I like that idea." I smile at him.
Kakashi softly blushes at that and so do I at his reaction. I wouldn't mind if he stuck around. We both began to walk inside. Hopefully Tsunade does not kick my ass for being late, or for being stupid enough to almost get kidnapped.

MAKE SURE YOU READ EVERYTHING, SO YOU WON’T MISS ANY IMPORTANT INFORMATION. Sōha Uzumaki (うずまき・ソウハ, Uzumaki Sōha) is a shinobi from the Village Hidden in the Leaves, a member of Team Hosaki, and a paternal descendant of the Uzumaki Clan. After becoming a resident in the village and learning the truth behind his father’s absence, Sōha makes a vow to find his long-lost father and make his family whole again by becoming a shinobi. In turn, he would go through challenges in his life that would test his mentality and creates bonds with many allies within the village.

Kanu was a shinobi from the renowned Uzumaki clan and Izumi was a kunoichi who lived in Kusagakure and studied botany for a side-occupation. During the Third Shinobi World War, Kanu had decided to have his wife take their newborn son and leave the country so they can take refuge in another village. Even though Izumi knew that her husband was a powerful shinobi in his own right, she knew that trying to sway him from the continuous fighting would be rather difficult for her to do. Kanu had promised Izumi that he would find her and his son when the war was over. Soon after the declaration, the couple had shared a passionate kiss before departing and Izumi quickly fled the country with her newborn son.
The Third Shinobi War was over before Naruto’s birth, so that can’t be a reason…but you can say instead border skirmishes that were a result of the Third War, or make up regional conflicts.
For a protracted period of time, Izumi and Sōha had traveled to many of the smaller countries and the highly trained kunoichi realized that she wanted her son to have a stable, normal life. After recalling that her unknown country and the Land of Fire were allies, Izumi figured it would best for her and Sōha to become citizens in the Village Hidden in the Leaves. Around this time, Hiruzen Sarutobi was currently reinstated as the Third Hokage and Izumi had to go through the arduous process of obtaining residency there within the village. During that time, Izumi and Sōha were heavily surveillanced and it took nearly six months for the paperwork to be processed and submitted. After the seventh month, Izumi and her son had been successfully approved by the system and the two of them could live peacefully as citizens.
very good! only, did they keep the name ‘Uzumaki’? If they did, were there any complications, did it turn any heads?
Even though Izumi had completed her task of finding a permanent home for her son, growing up was rather difficult for Sōha without his father being around. Not only that, Izumi had to work a part-time job as a botanist and take B-Rank missions in order for her family to have a steady income. Their financial binds wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great either and it really put a strain on Izumi to carry the financial support on her own. Over the years, things gradually got a little better for Sōha and his mother and at the age of eight, Sōha was enrolled into the Academy and he became friends with Kiba Inuzuka - after helping him find Akamaru when the latter snuck out of class to go to the practice hall (to not practice, of course). At first, Sōha was a bit put off by Kiba’s wild and egotistic behavior, but he slowly grew accustomed to it after hanging around him and he was grateful that he had someone to keep him company. Izumi was happy that her son made a friend and was starting to get accustomed to the village, but after eight years of not hearing anything from her husband, she was losing hope and her heart was breaking with coming to terms that her husband might no longer be alive. Even so, she refused to believed in her own dubiety and prayed for her husband’s return. It was one day when Sōha had came home from the Academy and Izumi was looking through one of her photo albums. Izumi had took one good look at him and she momentarily saw Kanu through her son, resulting in her breaking down crying in front of Sōha. At that point, he didn’t understand what had caused his mother so much pain and Sōha told her that until that day come, he would be the man of the house and protect his mother and her heart until Kanu had returned. Even after so many years, Sōha had never gave up on his father coming home - especially since his mother had told him so many good stories about Kanu’s exploits as a shinobi. Unfortunately, this had caused Sōha to slowly start resenting his father because of his mother having to deal with such an unbearable burden and pain. After making the earlier declaration to protect his mother, Sōha decided to become a shinobi that would put his life on the line to keep the bonds of family intact and protect those closest to him. With Sōha wanting to become the best shinobi, it would come with serious consequences and setbacks. During the last year of his Academy training, Sōha had became stress to the point where his shinobi performance and academics were declining from the result of him trying too hard. This in turn caused him to be retained in the Academy and it would be another year before he was able to graduate. During the Academy graduation ceremony, Sōha had showed up to congratulate Kiba on becoming a genin. Kiba had wondered was he okay about not being able to graduate with his class but Sōha told him that he would be fine. To Sōha, he still had enough time to become a great shinobi just as long as he believed in himself and continued to work hard. After talking for a little while longer, Sōha told Kiba to not get hurt or worse before he could become a genin himself. With that statement, Kiba laughed it off by letting him know that no such thing would happen and he would wish Sōha the best of luck on his extra year of training. :: PERSONALITY ::As a person who lives by his own quote, Sōha is an interesting individual who lives his life to the swaying of the ocean waves, which makes his personality really hard to pin down. He is mysterious and elusive and Sōha’s personality is somewhat molded by different surroundings. Sōha is willing to help another person and put their needs before his own in a heartbeat. He is very compassionate and sensitive and he feels the pain of others, especially if he could relate to them from personal experiences. He may be sensitive, but he isn’t a pushover, either. Sōha also has a bad side and it’s extremely hard to get off if you were to ever anger him in the slightest way. The only way that won’t happen is if you known him long enough to completely understand his personality. He also has an intuitive feeling than most people don’t give him enough credit for. His gut feeling about sensing certain people and corrupted hearts in general has never failed him because his instinct is usually accurate. In battle, Sōha believes in taking down an opponent quickly with or without a plan if they pose a threat. He can predict a person’s thoughts and what their true intentions may lie after a simple bout with them. Deep inside, Sōha struggles with an inner conflict with himself: trying to bring his family back together and feeling as if his motives would never come to fruition. Because of this, sometimes he will seclude himself away from reality as a way to escape that negative feeling. Despite that, Sōha does have great strength and character and he will fight for what he believes in. :: APPEARANCE ::Sōha Uzumaki has short, dark red hair - a common trait from the Uzumaki clan - with a large fringe that covers his left eye, jordy blue eyes, and a pale coral skin complexion. During Part I, he wears a cerulean blue jacket with a light copper hood and matching swirl designs on the short sleeves, a meshed armor undershirt, nero black trousers, and fingerless gloves with the backhand partially exposed. He also dons a licorice grey forehead protector in the traditional fashion and shinobi sandals of the same color with a kunai holster bandaged on his right leg. :: ABILITIES ::Sōha has been praised by his sensei, Hosaki Sekimoto that he has a natural prowess for water ninjutsu. However, with his weakness in speed and seals, he falls short when it comes to executing his jutsus at a timely manner. Despite his lacking skills, his greater strength lies within his taijutsu and stamina. :: Ninjutsu :: Fūinjutsu and Water NinjutsuSōha Uzumaki has a unique fighting style with sealing scrolls and water ninjutsu. He combines these two types of techniques and fights with long range and concentrated attacks. Because of his mediocre skills with performing basic ninjutsu through normal means, this tactic helps him a lot during a battle. Before going on a mission, he would check out and practice different water techniques and seal their abilities in scrolls so they can be ready for use on the battlefield. In Part I, Sōha is only capable of using up to five water ninjutsu techniques that he sealed in scrolls because it consumes a lot of his chakra from constant use. Life Force and Stamina ProwessAs a direct descendant from the Uzumaki clan, Sōha has a powerful life-force and immense longevity, giving him an edge in battle. Because of this, he is able to last longer in battle than most genin his age and can push himself past physical limits with his vitality. A good example of this is that Sōha can use his own life force as a second source of chakra to use proper ninjutsu temporary through his own technique: Latent Ripples. However, using that ability drains his chakra immensely and can result in dreadful consequences.
good that you are thinking of drawbacks! however, the crafting of a technique is generally regarded as something extremely complex and dangerous, and only the best of the best attempts it, because everyone else is busy practicing with what’s already out there. Minato did it because he was at the crux of the shinobi arts. Kakashi did it ‘cause he’s a pompous brat. Maybe Sōha can simply modify an existing technique with the help of his teacher, or simply overpower a technique enough to create his own unique version of it, since he’s an Uzumaki and they do stuff like that.

:: PART I :: Adapting To Life in Konoha Around this time, Sōha noticed that his mother was putting in more hours at the botanical gardens. Not liking the idea of his mother working herself to the bone in order to support them, Sōha had decided to to go hunting for a on-call job that he could work in between missions in order to have his own financial support and give his mother some days at home to relax. During the job hunt, Sōha was striking out with some of the local places, but he had his eyes set on working at the Yakiniku Q restaurant. When he was younger, Sōha and his mother were regular customers during the bustling Friday evening crowds and he got to know the owner well after being serviced from him almost every week. After thinking it over, he went to the restaurant to talk to him about a job.
Fortunately, the owner was looking for someone who could do on-call work, but he was afraid that the workload would be too much for such a young man to handle. Of course, this didn’t discourage Sōha to give up on wanting the job and he wanted to prove to the owner that he can indeed juggle between his career as a shinobi and this new opportunity. Moved by the boy’s enthusiasm, he gave Sōha the job of being the new waiter at the Yakiniku Q restaurant. That following afternoon, Sōha had came in for work on his first night and he was nervous about the whole ordeal. When he went to serve his very first table, he had no idea that he would serve his childhood friend, Kiba along with his teammate, Hinata Hyuga.
At first sight, Sōha thought that Hinata was a very pretty girl and even blushed around her, but when he shook her hand, he felt something unusual. He sensed that she was unconsciously harboring detrimental intentions and he couldn’t understand why. Despite his initial thoughts, Sōha considered her to be nice and kind-hearted. Kiba had also brought his classmates, Sakura Haruno and the hyper knucklehead ninja, Naruto Uzumaki. Sōha found it weird for Naruto to have the same last name as his, but he had introduced himself by only his first name to take their order and to avoid an awkward situation that could lead to some uncomfortable questions. After a few moments of Kiba and Sōha catching up and updating each other with what’s being going on in their lives, Sakura had cut in rudely ask for Sōha to take their order, which was something that Sōha didn’t appreciate and he let it be known to her by retorting back in a equally rude manner. Naruto easily got upset at Sōha and demanded that he apologize to her. Sadly, Sōha didn’t apologize to her and called him an idiot for defending someone who didn’t know how to be respectful. This made Naruto even more upset and because he was causing a scene, he had to leave the place. Sakura on the other hand had told Sōha that he you should be more respectful to his customers. But Sōha told her that in order to earn respect, you have to give respect. Kiba didn’t say anything, because he had agreed with him and shared the same values as well. After that little verbal scuffle, it was made clear that Souha was not taken with Sakura Haruno and her attitude. Genin Training Years In the early summer when Sōha had graduated from the Academy, he was assigned on Team 5 with two other shinobi, Heizen Ikutama and Kotomi Niwasaki. Their jōnin sensei would be Hosaki Shikuma, an above average shinobi with a prowess with Fire Ninjutsu. The newly formed team would have to go through a series of tests before actually becoming genin. At first, their camaraderie had caused many failed attempts at trying to complete their first mission – defeating their teacher with a collaboration technique. After several more attempts, the group finally came together as a functional team and completed all the requirements they needed to pass as genin. Since Sōha’s team got a late start in the Academy, they were left with doing various D and C-Rank missions in order to gain training and experience. Normally, genin in training would try to rest during the hottest months in Konoha, but Hosaki only had several months to mold them into capable shinobi. Over the course of training, Hosaki was seeing progress but it was mostly between Heizen and Kotomi. Sōha on the other hand was still struggling with some of the basics, which made him get frustrated easily. Hosaki saw this and decided to help him out by visually explaining to him and his teammates how the basics work. At the last month of training, Hosaki decided to see what affinity that each of them had. Sōha had discovered that he had an affinity for Water Release, which he didn’t like at first and called it a lame element. But after seeing how powerful water can be and how it can act as both an offensive and defensive weapon, Sōha had accepted his new affinity with appreciation and gratitude. Together, the four of them would be a team that specializes in chakra element attacks. After the chakra affinity training, Team 5 would continue to go on more missions and come up with their own jutsu to build up their arsenal for the next three years. It would be a tough run for them, but Hosaki couldn’t be happier for the team that he was assigned with. :: TRIVIA ::• Sōha (蒼波) means “Blue Waves” and it’s a reference to his nature transformation. His family name “Uzumaki” can either mean “whirlpool” or “maelstrom”.
place these in the beginning w/ his name, it’d be clearer for yourself and anyone reading it.
• Sōha’s closest friend is Kiba Inuzuka, one of the members of Konoha 12. • When meeting someone new, he never introduces himself by his full name on account of not wanting his heritage of the Uzumaki clan being known throughout the village – especially around Naruto Uzumaki since they both share the same surname and not wanting to bring about complications and awkward questions. • Sōha has a soft spot for animals, especially reptiles in general. This is evident whenever he’s around Akamaru and even gives him homemade dog treats from time to time. • According to the databook(s):              • Sōha’s hobbies are playing waboba and swimming.              • Sōha’s wishes to fight the underdogs of Konoha: his close friend, Kiba Inuzuka and Naruto Uzumaki.              • Sōha’s favorite foods are Nikujaga, Korokke, and Tonjiru Soup while his least favorite food is Ikura.              • He has completed 42 missions in total: 24 D-Rank, 17 C-Rank, 1 B-Rank, 0 A-Rank, and 0 S-Rank.              • Sōha’s favorite phrase is “The ground becomes firm after rain!” (雨降って地固まる, Ame futte ji katamaru!) which refers to ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’, or ‘adversity builds character’ and his favorite word is “respect” (尊重, sonchō).
:: QUOTES ::
• (To his mother, Izumi) “Don’t worry, Mother. I’ll become a proud shinobi and bring Dad back for you. I promise that we’ll be a family again.” • (To Heizen about his lifestyle) “How can you possibly understand? How can the son of a wealthy family possibly understand someone who struggled financially all their life!? That kind of hardship is not something glamorous, you know!” • (To Hosaki about his nature transformation) “Water Release? I’m the strongest out the three of us and I get the weakest element? Fate is being a real bitch to me right about now.” • (To Kiba) “You may be a wild, dog-loving shinobi, but I couldn’t have asked for a better friend than you. Thanks for always being there for me…” • (To Naruto about respect) “I’m pretty sure that you know this already, but in order to get respect, you have to give it. Plain and simple.”
In general, this is a well-fleshed out character. he has great motivation and drive, and his backstory and his involvement with canon characters are all well-thought out.
I suggest you look into writing a list of his likes, dislikes, favorites, personality traits, just for yourself. Right now, he is still feeling somewhat hollow, because I can’t help but think there’s more to him, and wonder how he fares under the kind of traumatic conditions of the world’s cruelty. What does he think of shinobi as tools? What does he think of himself, as such a tool?
Plot-wise, since you’re already writing him as existing somewhat parallel to the main plot of Naruto, write more of it. The coming-of-age story with him setting off to find his father is going to unearth more of Sōha as a character. It will also give credibility to his thoughts that his dream will never come to fruition.
Focus more on the relationship between his teammates and him, along with his teacher. How did his teammates affect his growth, did they help, did they hinder him, what did they do, what do they think of each other? Does he like his teammates? etc. And his teacher’s backstory is worth considering, too, since it might affect the way he teaches the kids. What’s their relationship? Basically, cast the net of your cast (haha) wider. One person’s actions can have far-reaching consequences that are interesting to explore!
This is a good start, and I hope you continue working on Sōha! I look forward to the second installment of his adventures!
