Round 2 is over! Let's recap:
A Bracket, Day One: Easy Pete crushed Santiago's post-presidential assassination aspirations in a landslide; Red Lucy avenged Maj. Elizabeth Kieran's incredibly close Round 1 loss by similarly crushing the poll's most pathetic man, Beagle, in a victory for feminism; Old Ben climbed further in the ranks with a close win over Manny Vargas*; and Ranger Ghost sailed into Round 3 over Tommy Torini.
A Bracket, Day Two: Heartthrob Harland desecrated Pvt. Kowalski in the round's first of several dramatic upsets; the #TRASHSWEEP continued well apace by laying waste to Pacer; Swank and his big ol' eyes saw a win over old Ranger Andy; and the love for 10 of Spades carried him to victory over his fellow NCR soldier Maj. Knight*.
A Bracket, Day Three: The Hadrian Gang unfortunately could not survive against the high-seed monster, Fantastic; Rotface gave Boxcars a tip: get eliminated from the tournament; the Garret Twins made a smear on the sidewalk out of bubbly Brotherhood initiate Melissa Watkins; and Ignacio Rivas's* good nature wasn't enough to take down Trudy from Goodsprings.
A Bracket, Day Four: Fan-favorite Keely utterly crucified houndmaster Antony, which has knocked every member of Caesar's Legion who isn't a slave from the tournament completely; Mr. RADical successfully just laid there while Jimmy* from Casa Madrid couldn't impress; Regis from the Great Khans just barely eked out the W to make Cliff Briscoe extinct; and Mick & Ralph pulled an overnight upset against Old Lady Gibson to punch their ticket.
B Bracket, Day One: Daisy Whitman blew up Raquel; Ringo wrecked Ramos; preliminary fave Angela Williams pulled off an astonishing upset against number two seed Oliver Swanick; and Allen Marks' victory over Crandon & Jules goes to show that the corpses keep winning.
B Bracket, Day Two: Beatrix Russell ate Chomps Lewis; Emily Ortal left Pvt. Kyle Edwards in the radioactive dust; The Lonesome Drifter drifted easily into Round 3 over Michael Angelo & Kate; and Siri beat Malcolm Holmes but not without a surprising amount of turnout for the cap-collecting good samaritan.
B Bracket, Day Three: No-Bark Noonan opened up the all-Khans bracket by kicking Oscar Velasco out of the tournament; Jessup & McMurphy successfully defeated a frail and sickly child; Melissa Lewis succeeded where her father had failed the day before with a victory over Cannibal Johnson; Doctor Usanagi proves that STEM is more valuable than an English degree by giving Jerry the Punk another beating.
B Bracket, Day Four: Big Beard & Little Beard trounce the Gundersons, probably because Heck was the only one with a beard; Chris Haversam throws Meyers back in the clink; Mister Holdout couldn't hold out against Sarah Weintraub; and finally, in the single most massive (624 votes) and close (tied as late midnight with 500 votes) and polarizing (just check the notes) match-up in the entire tournament so far, Calamity the ghoul pulled an upset over Cpl. Betsy*, who's probably dealing with her loss in therapy. Hopefully Dr. Usanagi doesn't bring up her own win.
*Happy Pride Month, losers! The first round of June and literally every canonically queer character (except for Red Lucy, bisexual [edit: and Sarah Weintraub, also bisexual!]) got voted out, and that's hilarious. Funniest possible thing that could have happened on here, the gay and transgender website, during the gay and transgender month, in a tournament for the gay and transgender video game. (Beatrix Russell and Old Ben might also be exceptions, but it's minor; I only can't remember if you can sleep with them as the same sex or not when they're working at the Atomic Wrangler, but even then they may just be gay4pay. Not that there's anything wrong with that!)
You can see all of the Round 2 polls here, and the tournament bracket has been updated so that you can get a preview of the matches yet to come in Round 3. Voting will pause for a bit while I prepare graphics and bracket posts, so use this downtime to mourn the fallen, celebrate the risen, and submit designated cheerleader endorsements for your favorite remaining characters in their upcoming rounds. It's only going to get more tense from here!

A Smile for Hire
“I'm sorry Ms. But you just don't have enough experience to work at my shop.” the owner said, standing behind the counter and putting down Kara’s resume, flipping it around for her.
Kara was desperate. Desperate was an understatement of how desperate for a job she was.
“B-But what I lack in experience I make up for in my social skills.” she explained, “I'm the friendliest walking thing you'll ever meet. I make kittens look like devils and puppies like monsters. I'm so friendly that there's an urban dictionary word in my name that means extremely friendly." she continued before frowning, "But please don't look that up."
“There’s just nothing I can do. I don’t have the spare time to train you nor do I have enough employees to do that.”
Kara deflated, normally she would plead her case for the next hour or so being annoyingly persistent until someone hires her. But she has had the same conversation with the same type of owners of several coffee shops, restaurants, pizza parlors (that one she had to walk out of there herself before the interview because she knew she wouldn’t be able to resist eating the place down to bankruptcy) and many other places.
Just as Kara was about to take her resume and leave, the door of the coffy shop opened and normally she wouldn’t have noticed something like that, but the scared expression of the owner tipped her off.
A woman with expensive looking sunglasses clad over her eyes walked in. Her hair was in a neat high ponytail and her expression was very much annoyed. She gave them a look, as she walked, though Kara wasn’t sure where she was looking with her sunglasses covering her eyes, and marched on high heels to a secluded table.
Kara looked back at the man who seemed to be contemplating his life choices of whether or not he should go there and take her order.
Kara sported a bright smile on, “Listen. If I can take that woman's order and get her in a better mood, would you give me the job?”
He gawked at her, “You do realize who that is? That's Lena Luthor. If she's in a bad mood, there's no talking to her until she's had her espresso. If you go anywhere near her, she’ll bite your head off, no matter how friendly you are.”
“What did I just say about the kittens and the puppies? What did I just say? I’m not just friendly. Friendliest than the word friendly.”
“Lena Luthor does not like friendly.” He muttered under his breath. But out loud he said, "Fine. You get her to order a full meal without lashing out at you and get her to smile then the job's yours.
Kara fist bumped the air, “Yes!”
She quickly took off her coat, straitened down her black jeans and button down shirt and put on her best smile.
As soon as Kara reached her table, Lena spoke without looking up from the tablet she was reading from, "Let's start with my double shot espresso. And then I'll decide on what I'll have for lunch."
Oof, didn’t even spare me a glance. Tough crowd. Kara thought hesitantly. She was beginning to think that this was going to be harder than she thought. How was she going to use her friendliest smile when the lady won’t even look at her.
“Umm, yeah coming right up. A-anything else I could get you to brighten your d-”
“Yes. You talk too much. Get me another waitress.”
Kara was taken back by that, “Well, that wasn’t very nice. I barely said two words to you.” she mumbled under her breath.
This was much much more challenging than she thought it would be.
She shook away her negative thoughts and tried again, “I know I’m supposed to be serving you and not the other way around but could you maybe possibly do me a favor and smile?” Kara almost begged.
That guaranteed a look from the woman, and Kara was not ready to meet deep green eyes such as hers. “Excuse me?” she sounded offended
And Kara immediately realized how that sounded, “Oh no no. Not in the 'give me a smile, sweetheart' kind of way that men usually shout at women. At all. I respect women. I worship women. Women are the future. I'm surprised there hasn't been a woman president yet! I once told a woman to punch me in the face because I was in love with her.” That got a thoughtful look to be put on Kara’s face, “Though, maybe I was in love with the idea of her. I’m not too sure anymor-”
“I get it! Then what did you mean?”
Kara blushed, just now seeing that maybe she did talk too much, “I'm trying to get a job here and I kinda maybe sorta have a deal with the owner over there who's eyeing me that I could get you to order something without you sticking the fork in my eye. So, do you maybe think that's possible.”
A perfectly lined eyebrow raised up in question, “I don't know. That fork is awfully tempting.”
Kara smirked at that, because she clearly dug that hole for herself, but she could play this game, “Well, if you'll let me read you our lunch menu I’m sure you could find something else that might tempt you.”
Kara felt the woman rake her eyes up and down her body, before reciprocating an equally flirty smirk, “Maybe I already have.”
Kara’s eyebrows went up, “Wow, I feel extremely objectified right now but somehow I'm not complaining. It could be because you're really pretty and I'm a gay mess.”
The woman chuckled and Kara decided she loved the sound of it. And with a quick side glance, the small chuckle seemed to earn a shocked gasp from the owner over there.
“You seemed so sure of yourself when you were ready to read me the lunch menu.”
“That's because food is easy.”
The woman sat back in her chair comfortably, “Well, then. How about you order for me?”
“You'd risk that? A stranger ordering your food for you?”
“You're no stranger. I know more about you than I know about that man behind the counter whose cafe I’ve been coming over everyday for the past year.”
“How so?”
“Your name is Kara Danvers. You are currently looking for a job. You're gay- Oh, forgive me. You're a gay mess. And you have a charming personality.”
Kara sported a dopey grin, “You think I'm charming?”
The woman ignored the question with a smile, “You also graduated from National City University. With a degree in Applied Linguistics and a minor in Journalism.”
Okay, now Kara was confused, “Wait, how'd you know that? And how did you know my name, I'm not wearing a name tag.”
"Your resume was on the counter when I walked in and your name was on top in all capital letters. Would've been impossible to miss."
"Not to the owner apparently. He's called me Kieran twice in the 3 minutes of our conversation."
The woman smirked playfully, "Kieran suits you actually. It goes well with your hair."
Kara chuckled, bowing down dramatically, "Then, it is settled m'lady. I shall change my name to Kieran."
The brunette giggled at that and Kara again noticed from the corner of her eye the owner gawking. Must be a rarity then. It's a shame too, this woman had the most beautiful laugh.
"I hate to press you, but I do need to take your order at some point or I don't think I'll be hired."
"Oh yes, right. I'll just have the Caesar salad with the dressing on the side and the avocado toast."
"Right away."
Just when Kara was about to leave, she felt a soft hand grip her wrist. She looked back to find the woman looking hesitantly at her.
“I hope this isn't too forward, but I'm actually in the market looking for a new assistant. Is that something you would-" she paused, "-be interested in. I would understand if you have your eyes set on this place but I can assure you the job I'm offering would come with countless benefits and-”
“Yes!” Kara shrieked
“Oh, are you- are you sure?”
“The question is, are you sure you wanna hire me?! I have no experience being someone's assistant!”
“Well, technically you'd be my second assistant. Sort of like-”
“I will gladly be whatever you want me to be!”
The woman blushed profusely, “Oh, well that’s unnecessary. You will get a job description of what is expected of you obviously.”
“Again! Whatever you want me to be!” Kara exclaimed, “I’ll be a foot stool if you want me to!” she then paused, “But not in like a sexual way or anything. Unless you...”
“No!”

His son, Oban, succeeds him.
And then he dies.
So right now Kieran is the new king.
I definitely think the original king the tyrant whose death could be foreshadowed, he really sucked.
And both deaths were planned so I actually really like the idea that The Unseelie King mirrors Julius Caesar
Also Augustus Caesar, Julius’ son and the next king, was viewed as a great leader so yay Kieran

Welcome foolish mortals to the long awaited dorm blog for Corpuslevatio! I’ll be your ghost host @lawlessofdusk ,I’ve been talking about this dorm for a while so It’s about time I make a blog for it so here we go!
Info regarding the dorm
Founded upon the spirits of a most swinging wake, Corpuslevatio is a dorm at night raven college that focuses on many different forms of divination and spiritual awakening, students here are primarily undead, ghosts, zombies and such, however it is a very rare occasion we get corruptible mortal students, we are always looking for more souls to join our crypt, any volunteers?

Thank you for asking! I’ll go with a Fallout theme for this one :D
C: Child - Your OC encounters a crying, lost child. How do they react?
Antha - Sole Survivor
Antha’s reaction depends on how long she’s been out of cold storage, to be honest. When she’s still new to the Wasteland, she wouldn’t even think twice before trying to help and comfort a crying kid who was on their own. She wasn’t able to be a mom for very long, but the instinct is still there.
That being said, once she’s been thawed out for a while she gets a little...jaded. Her first instinct would still be to help the kid, but MacCready has drilled it into her that she needs to look before she leaps, so to speak. In that case, she would still attempt to help the kid, but first she’d take a moment to scan her surroundings and make sure that the kid isn’t being used as bait for an ambush or something like that. If she has a companion Mac with her, he’d watch her back while she went to check on the poor kid. Together they would make sure to get the kid to safety before moving on.
H: Honesty - How often does your OC lie? Do they believe lying is ever justified? Describe a time your OC told a lie, or told the truth even when it was difficult.
Kieran Kelly - Courier Six
Kieran has a weird relationship with the truth. He lost a good chunk of his memory after he got shot, so there are some instances where he can’t tell the truth simply because he doesn’t know what it is.
Overall, Kieran is honest with the people who matter, but he can lie through his teeth when the situation calls for it. On one terrifying and memorable occasion, he finds himself at Fortification Hill, surrounded by the Legion, lying to Caesar’s face in order to protect both Arcade and himself...and doing it so well that Arcade almost starts to doubt his loyalties.
(Incidentally, Kieran’s highest stats are Luck and Charisma :P)
P: P - Positive - What does your OC believe is their best personality trait?
Arya O’Hara - Lone Wanderer
Arya would probably pick something that’s primarily about how useful she can be to others...likely how she’s able to perform well under pressure and that sort of thing. And it’s true, Arya is great to have around in a crisis. She keeps a level head and doesn’t panic, but she does that by dissociating, so eventually all that pressure comes back to crush her in one way or another.
Arya holds herself together for others, because she’s always been the type of person to act, to speak up. Even out in the Wasteland people rely on her to get shit done, and it takes a long time and a lot of growing up before she’s able to accept that she’s not able to do everything, and that she shouldn’t be expected to do everything.

Name meanings of main TDA Characters
According to Google searches. ;) and my own little comments.
Emma: German, meaning “complete, whole, universal”. A very popoular European and American name. (Pretty simple and fitting)
Julian: Greek and Latin origin, variation of ancient Roman name; Julius. Also, Jules is the French form of the Latin name. Meaning youth or downy; which means covered with fine soft hair and feathers or soft and fluffy. (LOL AW)
Mark: Latin origin, meaning “warlike”. (Which is like super fitting, woah.)
Drusilla: Latin origin, meaning “fruitful”. Short form Dru means “strong” (hell ya). An ancient Roman name (as well) borne by descendants of Antony and Cleopatra.
Tiberius: Latin Origin, meaning “of the Tiber”. Short form Ty, English origin simply known for being a short form. (Couldn’t find anything further on it) Tiber is a long river in Rome, Italy and is similar to the saying “crossing the Tiber” referring to joking the Roman Church, (does not really relate to him in any ways I can think minus just the significance of his dad love for these types of names from the books but if you can find one lemme know?)
Livia: Latin origin, meaning “blue, envious”. Not a variation of Olivia but a distinctively attractive, independent name since the days of ancient Romans (as well). Also, (coincidentally) Livia is histrionically known from first Roman emperor Caesar Augustus’ wife, Livia Drusilla!
Octavian: Latin Origin, meaning “eighth”. Tavvy; could not find meaning. Derived from Octavius. After Gaius Octavius was adopted by Julius Caesar he took the name Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus. (Fitting....considering Julian basically adopted all his siblings??)
Helen: Greek origin, meaning “bright, shining, light”. The name connoted beauty since ancient times, the mythological “face that launched a thousand ships”. (Relates so much to her omg 💕)

Cristina: Many origins such as, Italian, Spanish, Roman, Greek, and Latin. Meaning “a Christian”. (Considering her beliefs and what not I think this is pretty accurate as well.)
Kieran: Irish origin, meaning “little dark one”. Comes from the name of Ireland’s first-born saint. It is the Irish form of the Gaelic Ciarán (little dark one), which is from ciar (black, dark), a word meaning “dark-haired” or “black-haired”when applied to humans. (He has blue hair most of the time but it has turned black more often then we think when he’s distraught and what not so I think this fits?)
Diana: Latin origin, meaning “Divine”. Latin name for the Roman goddess associated with the moon, virginity, and hunting; she is the protector of wild animals, represented in myth as both beautiful and chaste. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° Gwyn...hunting, animals, the wild hunt... ya it all connects you can’t deny it)
Aline: French and or Celtic origin, meaning “noble, lovely” (French) and “fair, good-looking” (Celtic). (Which is perfect cause she is fair in looks and is gorgeous with her half fey half shadow hunter look and she is literally just a lovely human being ugh)

Exquisite 2,000-year-old sapphire ring thought to have belonged to Roman Emperor Caligula and depicting the face of the wife goes on sale for $750,000
An exquisite 2,000-year-old sapphire ring which is thought to have belonged to Roman Emperor Caligula - and is one of the ‘Marlborough Gems’ - is being sold for close to £500,000.
The sky blue hololith, made from a single piece of the precious stone, is believed to have been owned by Caligula, who reigned from 37AD until his assassination four years later. The face engraved into the bezel is thought to be his fourth and last wife Caesonia.
Caesonia, who was played by Dame Helen Mirren in the 1979 erotic historical drama Caligula, was assassinated almost immediately after her husband. Stricken with grief at his death, she reportedly willingly offered her neck to the assassin, telling him to kill her without hesitation.
The ring is the star attraction at an exhibition of more than 100 engraved gems which will be held in London by Royal jewellers Wartski next week. The gems will be available for purchase, with prices ranging from £5,000 to £500,000. The sale has sparked worldwide interest, with collectors from as far afield as Japan queuing outside their premises days before the exhibition to be first through the door.
The 'Caligula ring’ resided to the collection of the Earl of Arundel from 1637 to 1762, at which point it became one of the famous 'Marlborough Gems’. This was a collection of 800 engraved jewels amassed by politician George Spencer, 4th Earl of Marlborough, in the late 18th and early 19th century.
They were sold in 1875 by John Winston Spencer-Churchill, 7th Duke of Marlborough, to pay for repairs on the ancestral home of Blenheim Palace, Oxon. The collection was bought in its entirety by David Bromilow, of Bitteswell Hall in Leicestershire, for the princely sum of £35,000 (the equivalent of £2.2million in today’s money).
This ring was then sold by his daughter in 1899 at a Christie’s auction in London to dealer Julius Goldschmidt. Its provenance is not known until it emerged for auction with Sotheby’s in London in 1971, fetching just £750. It then featured in a French private collection before being acquired by Wartski, who are jewellers to the Queen and Prince Charles. Currently, only a quarter of the 'Marlborough Gems’ are accounted for, with the location of the rest remaining a mystery.
Kieran McCarthy, Wartski director, said: 'This ring is one of the prestigious 'Marlborough Gems’, having previously been in the collection of the Earl of Arundel. It is crafted entirely of sapphire. Very few horoliths exist and I would argue this is the best example you can find. We believe it belonged to the debauched Emperor Caligula and the engraving shows his final wife Caesonia. The gems at the exhibition have prices ranging from £5,000 to £500,000. While we don’t want to disclose its price out of discretion for potential buyers, this gem is at the top end of that range.’
During the exhibition, Wartski will also be displaying a selection of Royal gems, as well as jewels from some of the most notable 18th and 19th century engravers.
Thomas Holman, curator of the exhibition, added: 'It has been an immense privilege to be given the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the great historic collectors by assembling this group of engraved gems. 'Time and attention are required to truly appreciate their dexterity and beauty. My hope is that people will take a moment to come and see these extraordinary miniature masterpieces and appreciate that there is a great deal more to them than first meets the eye.’
Caligula made many enemies as his excessive spending, including on gems, drained the Roman treasury.
The exhibition takes place from October 1 to 7 at Wartski’s premises in St James’s Street, London.
The rise and fall of Caligula
Caligula was born Gaius Julius Caesar Germanicus in 12AD to renowned Roman general Germanicus and his wife, Agrippina the Elder. He was given the nickname Caligula, or 'little boot’, in reference to the tiny uniform his parents would dress him in. He was just 24 when he became emperor in 37AD, after his mother and brothers died in prison after being accused of treason.
His great-uncle Tiberius then adopted him and made him and his son equal heirs to the empire. Although his appointment was initially welcomed by Rome, a serious illness unhinged Caligula. He is quoted as having the catchphrase: 'Remember that I have the right to do anything to anybody.’
And it was rumoured that he had incestuous relationships with his sisters and brazen affairs with wives of his allies.
He would torture high-ranking senators by making them run for miles in front of his chariot. And he would jokingly threaten to have his wife, Caesonia, tortured or killed. His lavish lifestyle drained the Roman treasury faster than he could replenish it with tax and extortion.
In 41AD Caligula was stabbed to death, along with his wife and daughter, by officers of the Praetorian Guard led by Cassius Chaerea.
