Why Don’t We Just Kill the Kid in the Omelas Hole, Isabel J. Kim - obsessed with this on title alone. It has such a feel to it in the way it moves that I envy.

Parthenogenesis, Piya Patel - horror that makes me want to peel out of my skin and/or get a hysterectomy.

Eschatology, Eve L. Ewing - poem that was circulating recently and God. Fuck, dude. Yeah. Yeah.

Ouroboros, Megan Xing - The to-do lists in this got me because I was having my little freak out before my show went up where you think you can fix everything with to-do lists. Also heavily feeling replacing ineffective psych meds with yogurt, a pickle, and two advil.

I also read Cancer Buffet by Mary Hannah Terzino and Soft Opening by Elle Nash, but I was tired and don’t remember them.

In the following weeks, the renovations on the mansion Kassandra and Klaus picked out took place. It was mostly over, the only place left was the entrance hall. The bedrooms upstairs were all finished.

Klaus was currently gone, doing God knows what with his hybrids, so she was alone in the house. She was brushing out her hair and listening to music. Many of the artists she loved in the 80s and 90s were now older or passed away. She cried when she found out Michael Jackson passed away.

She was listening to "Chiquitita" by ABBA. As the finishing touch, she sprayed perfume on her wrists and neck - it was vanilla-scented with hints of rose and citrus. Once she was satisfied with herself she made her way downstairs.

Her mind was on her sister. It's been weeks and there was no sign of her. Rebekah was capable of protecting herself, sure, but she would be defenseless with a dagger in her heart. Kassandra sighed as she nervously played with the heart-shaped ring on her hand.

Stefan Salvatore had stolen the caskets containing her sibling's bodies and he was using that as leverage against Klaus. "I just hope we find them soon..." She thought as she poured herself blood into a wine glass.

Kassie was currently on the couch in the living room - she was watching the movie adaptation of one of her favorite novels, The Lord Of the Rings. The movies were filmed and released while she was daggered so she only recently found out about their existence.

She was currently on the scene where Aragorn and Arwen were talking to each other before the shards of Narsil when all of a sudden Klaus came in bursting through the house, sounding rather annoyed.

"Kassandra!" He yelled, his voice echoing through the large mansion. She sighed and paused the movie.

"Here." She answered softly, knowing he would hear her. In an instant, he appeared in front of her. She looked up at him, with an annoyed expression on her face. "Yes?"

"Put some shoes on. We're going on a little field trip." He said as he took the remote from her hands and turned off the TV.

"Hey! I was watching that!" She exclaimed.

"What do you mean field trip? What are you talking about?" Kassie asked, confused.

"I've found a way to find Bekah." He replied.

She looked at him suspiciously. "How?" She asked with narrowed eyes.

"And here I thought Rebekah was the judgy one." He joked. "What do you think I've been doing all this time?"

Kassie simply shrugged her shoulders. Klaus chuckled and put his arm around her. "Have some faith in me, love." She gave him an unimpressed look.

"So, what is your master plan?" She asked as she got up from the couch, in the process pushing away Klaus's arm.

He chuckled again. "It's fairly simple - a locator spell."

"Of course! God, how haven't I thought of that!?" Kassie exclaimed. They walked toward the front door where her jacket was. "So that means you found a witch to help you?"

"Naturally."

"Right. But don't you need the blood of a relative to find the missing person?"

"And that's where you come in, dear sister." He said as he held the door open and the two of them walked out of the house.

Kassie furrowed her brows. "But you're her sibling as well. Why didn't you just give your blood?"

"The witch demanded your blood. She said yours would be better since you and Bekah are full-blooded siblings." He replied and Kassie didn't miss the hurt in his voice.

"And the witch said it would work even better because of your matching rings" Klaus added as they got inside his car.

Kassie and Bekah had matching heart-shaped rings. They were fairly simple in design, the only difference was that Rebekah's was made of gold and Kassie's was silver. They bought them from a small jewelry store back in the 1800s. The two sisters never took them off. (xx)

"Right...so where are we going exactly?"

"Thankfully for us, she moved to Richmond a couple of years ago."

Two hours later they found themselves in front of a small, shabby-looking apothecary. Klaus entered first and Kassie followed. The inside didn't look any better - dust was visible in the air, cobwebs covered most of the shelves, and an unpleasant smell of something burning was present.

"How...lovely..." Kassandra remarked as she looked around unimpressed.

"Now, now love, we're not here to be judgy," Klaus responded. Soon after, an elderly woman appeared. She was on the shorter side. Her golden hair was tied back into one long braid. Her icy blue eyes bore into Kassandra.

Even though her youth was fading away, Kassie could see traces of her former beauty. The woman wore a flowy blue dress with long sleeves and had many necklaces covering her neck. On her head, she had a beautiful black headband.

"Kassandra, this is Natalya. She will help us find Bekah." Klaus introduced the two women. The witch grabs Kassandra's hand and takes off her heart-shaped ring. After a few seconds, she lets her go and goes behind the counter.

She opens up a map of Virginia and puts it on the counter. She also brings out a knife. "Will you do it or shall I?" The witch asks Kassandra.

Kassie is quiet for a second, then picks up the knife and cuts her left palm. She hissed but endured the pain. Blood dripped from her hand down onto the map. Natalya took the ring, grabbed Kassie's free hand, and started muttering.

As she was muttering, the blood started moving around the map. After a couple of seconds, it stopped right above two words - Mystic Falls.

"I knew it! I told you, she never left town." Kassie exclaimed.

Klaus hummed in response. "I think I know where she is."

After they met with the witch, they returned to their mansion. Klaus poured himself a glass of bourbon while Kassandra watched, waiting for him to reveal his plan.

He downed the remainder of his drink and turned to his sister. "Here's what you'll do. You'll go to their little Mystic Falls High and compel yourself an enrollment paper."

"You want me to enroll in their high school? Why?" Kassie asked with furrowed brows.

"Because, little dove, I need you to be my eyes and ears since Rebekah is down at the moment." He explained while one of his hands moved a strand of hair from her face.

"You want me to spy on Elena and her friends." She concluded quickly.

"I knew you were a smart girl." He said with a wicked smile.

"But they'll know it's me. Stefan will recognize me." Kassie pointed out.

"It doesn't matter. What can they do against you? To everyone else, you're just the new girl in town."

Kassie sighed. "I'll get to it, then." She picked up her purse, took the car keys from the table, and begrudgingly went to do what was expected of her.

"This is ridiculous." She thought as she parked the expensive Audi in the school parking lot. She got out of the car and walked inside the building. Her heels clicked against the floor, the sound reverberating off the walls.

The halls were quiet and the school was almost empty, save for a few professors and a janitor. There seemed to be no students present. "To be fair it is Friday evening." She told herself.

She finally found her way into the office of the school secretary. "Right. Let's get this over with." Kassie thought as she entered the office.

The woman seemed surprised by her entrance and asked her what she needed. "Can I help you?"

"Yes. I need enrollment papers." Kassie said, trying to be nice before inevitably using her powers.

"Do you have any documentation with you?"

"No."

"Hun, how do you think to enroll without any documentation?"

"Like this," Kassie said as she leaned over the counter, looked the woman in the eye, and compelled her.

After 10 minutes of waiting Kassie got her papers. She once again compelled the woman to forget their entire interaction and then left the office.

Sherrif Liz Forbes was in Mystic Falls High, picking up some papers for Caroline. On her way there, she noticed an expensive-looking car parked in front of the school.

Once she entered the school and was walking toward the secretary's office, she saw an unfamiliar young woman walking out of said office.

The girl was tall, with long brown hair, and was dressed affluently. There was something odd about her, Liz thought, she didn't seem like a regular high school girl.

Before she could do anything, the girl was gone. Shaking her head, Liz entered the office and greeted the secretary.

"Hello, Grace."

"Oh, Liz! Hello, how are you?"

"I'm good...Grace, who was that girl?" Liz asked.

Grace tilted her head in confusion. "What girl?"

"...The girl that just walked out of your office."

"There was no one here. You're the first person to enter my office since lunch break."

"Are you sure?" Liz asked again.

Grace chuckled. "I think I would know if someone entered my office, Liz."

"Of course," Liz said, alarm bells going on in her head. "A vampire..." she thought grimly.

Kassie and Klaus figured out that Bekah was daggered and we see how deep Kassie's care is for Bekah. We see her compel her way into high school lol and at the end, Sheriff Liz almost catches Kassie in the act. Hmmm..

How many works do you have on AO3? I have 62 total works, and I am so disappointed in a lot of them 😅

What's your total AO3 word count? 339,839 words!

What fandoms do you write for? Lately I've been working a lot on fics with AC: Odyssey, Monsterverse, and VicTORIous. However, I did recently do a fic for Mean Girls (2024) and I used to write a lot for BNHA/MHA, when I was very big on that fandom, but all those fics are really bad and cringe so I try to pretend they don't exist. I also have some batfamily fics, and a few for Dynasty. A few oneshots here and there with that fic being my only work in the fandom. And how could I forget, Horizon!

What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Confidence - What a Hero Needs - this annoys me so much, it was my first fic, EVER. I wrote it 4 years ago, and it's still my most popular, I've written much better stuff. I've even REWRITTEN THIS ONE AND THE OG IS STILL MORE POPULARR GKHDGHJHWJHK Apects Unknown - or are they? - a fun batfamily and wonderbat based fic off of my own mini-universe. Very cute, and very proud of this fic Perseverance - What a Hero Needs - the immediate follow up to Confidence. Again, I've written a lot better stuff "What? I like hero merch!" - My favorite crack fic I've written. Also BNHA/MHA based, but this was just fun and cute Among (Us) the Villains - yet another BNHA/MHA fic, but this time it's based about Izuku being friends with the LoV. And gaming with them. Made around the time of Among Us, hence the title

Do you respond to comments? I try, especially once I post something new. But honestly, a lot of my responses end up being just hearts or "thank you's" and it personally makes me feel like I'm being disingenuine when i respond with them too much

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I suppose Kumandra's Heart? But that was more sad than angst, I think?

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Pretty Girls, my Mean Girls (2024) fic!!!! I love this one so much, it's one of the few I go back and reread often! Basically a rewrite of the movie to be a lot gayer.

Do you get hate on fics? Oh yeah, there was this one marvel fic I did, and this one commenter was really mad that I wasn't going exactly as canon dictated. Because of course

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I have a few fics with smut, and it's mainly kink-based. Definitely love involved too, but very kink-based.

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Yes! I enjoy it a lot! My craziest one would probably have to be the one I'm currently writing, combining the Assassin's Creed universe and Legendary's Monsterverse. It's called Ancients Risen Anew, and based on Kassandra joining MONARCH after the G-Day event in 2014!

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge! I made all my fics available only to registered users for the purpose of keeping them as safe as I can while still sharing them.

Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope! Would love to see it happen though!

Have you ever co-written a fic before? Nope! It sounds interesting to do though!

What's your all time favorite ship? I would have to say Jade West/Tori Vega. The good old classic gay couple from Nickelodeon, as much as we hate how that era of TV was behind the scenes. A close second would probably be Aloy/Seyka, from Horizon. I just love them so much, they're my little blorbos (i think i used that term right :D)

What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I have a few, but I'll talk about Cascade for now. It's the marvel fic I mentioned earlier, and I kinda lost all interest in marvel recently. The last media I saw was The Marvels, and I enjoyed it a lot, but I kinda got oversaturated with too much Marvel stuff, and not enough of it was as amazing like Shang-Chi was to make me wanna stay interested. Will definitely watch the stuff I'm interested in though (anything with Kate Bishop and Yelena)

What are your writing strengths? Hmmmm, tough one. I would say lore. I love writing lore and explaining lore. I am also very good at writing outlines.

What are your writing weaknesses? Fight scenes. Especially fast paced ones. I love the choreography in movies, but how am I supposed to translate the fast-paced combat into writing in a way that feels natural????

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I have done this for a short story! Please go check it out, its non-fandom related so it didn't get traction, but oh my god i did so much research for it and I love it. It's called Children of Níðhǫggr!

First fandom you wrote for? Boku no Hero Academia / My Hero Academia. Please, end me

Favorite fic you've written? How the fuck am I supposed to choose just one?!??!?! I'll limit myself to five, to keep this short, lol Ink & Sparks - which is my favorite Jade West/Tori Vega fic. I rewrote it several times, and the version linked is the best one I've done. Please check it out, I love it so much! There's More To Life Than Surviving! - Honestly, this one is a contender for top fic. A crack fic, but for Ninjago! Loved it a lot The Titan of the Pearl - A very nice fic I wrote combining the Pirates of the Caribbean and Godzilla. Because I can Kumandra's Heart - A slight ending rewrite of Raya, the Last Dragon, which is my personal favorite Disney Princess movie Pretty Girls - the Mean Girls (2024) fic I mentioned earlier. I love this one so much, and like I said, I keep going back to reread it, that's how much I enjoy it Going to tag @aeide, @hartlesshart, @foibles-fables, and @spectres-n-knights for this! 5:30 pm thought (its not 12 am for once) thinking of street racer/motorcycle racer Desmond who enjoys the feeling of freedom he gets from racing and the adrenaline shots from it. Could make it a modern day au if wanted to with other assassin's being other racers but mainly had the thought of Desmond being in at least one street race before veing captured

Racer Desmond setup:

Desmond being a dumb teenager and taking a race car for a spin because it goes whoosh sounds pretty believable to me.

Also, if he becomes a well-known racer and goes pro, it’ll be hard for Abstergo to just kidnap him.

… They’ll have to make some sort of ‘accident’ that would kill such a profilic racer.

Hell, all Desmond has to do to turn that all around is to get out of Abstergo and go to the nearest tv station, announce he’s been kidnapped and Abstergo will have a scandal on their hands.

Sure, they can probably spin it that Desmond is lying or on drugs or whatever scandal they think would stick but the PR nightmare alone would have their stocks taking a dive.

And Abstergo needs to be careful with this. One wrong step and they’ll blow the lid on who Desmond Miles was which was an Assassin (technically). The moment they learn about the whole Assassins and Templars shit, Desmond would definitely break the “Do not compromise the Brotherhood” tenet to tell his side of the story which is “I thought they were hippies or a cult”. Hell, Desmond could even spin it as “I didn’t know any of it was real. I was just a some kid back then and I left them long ago. Abstergo’s the one hunting me for something I’m not even a part of!”

The Assassins would probably hate Desmond for it.

But, god damn, was it now fun to watch Abstergo burn because of him.

hey - absolutely always okay to ask me about my favourite characters (or favourite anything's). I haven't unboxed them for some time and am frankly excited to wave them in everyone's faces again (though picking a top 10 is hardddddd - this could very easily have been a BNHA/HQ/JJK list but I restricted myself to 1 character per media)

Bakugou Katsuki (BNHA) - beloved boy, loml, star in my sky, etc etc. forever #1 of any + all lists. I adore grumpy characters who find themselves caught up in being loved into character growth by their friends, but I think the main reason he's my #1 is that I see a lot of myself in him. I too was a very angry young person with a superiority complex who went on a journey into letting others in, allowing myself to experience joy and love, and dismantling ideas of perfectionism. I don't think I'll ever truly let the pricklyness or slight god complex go though

Bokuto Koutarou (Haikyuu) - beloved boy #2 because who doesn't love Bokuto??? We are all rendered weak in the face of his endearing and endless puppy energy. I love how loving, optimistic and tenacious he is. Oh, and let's not talk about how relatable some of his other qualities are (prior to watching HQ I almost verbatim quoted a complaint Bokuto makes in a completely different context). love himmmmmmmm

Sarah Harding (The Lost World) - One of two of my biggest role models as a child/teenager. I wanted to be like Sarah so bad and had also wanted to work in animal behaviour in part bc of her. She's completely badass, and as an adult I also have a newfound appreciation for how she handles communicates + asserts her boundaries in her relationship with Ian

Padme Amidala (Star Wars) - The second of my biggest role models as a child/teenager. Leia didn't grow on me until I was older, but I was obsessed with Padme. I feel like the fandom + Episode III does her dirty, but to me I adore how intelligent, caring and assertive she is. I studied politics at college because of her!

Gojo Satoru (Jujutsu Kaisen) - Possibly my favourite of all of the shitbags that I love. I remember desperately pleading with myself to not fall on my face for Gojo during the first episode of S1 and made it until the credits... Why do I love him? He's heinously obnoxious, self-assured, hilarious, extremely powerful, and a complete walking disaster of a man.

Cristina Yang (Grey's Anatomy) - I don't watch Grey's Anatomy anymore but I used to be obsessed with it. I still own S1-6 on DVD and have very fond memories of it. I always loved Cristina for her blunt directness, self-belief, intelligence, and approach to friendships/relationships. Plus, my best friend in college identified me as a 75% Cristina/25% George personality so Cristina has also been very dear to my heart for that reason lmao

Achilles (The Song of Achilles) - It wouldn't be me if I didn't include Achilles on a list of favourites. I named my dog after Achilles because I love him so much and joked to my (poor) boyfriend that if we ever have a kid together, their middle name should be Achilles. Madeline Miller's depiction of Achilles is my favourite and love him for very similar reasons to Bakugou tbh. Give me a man filled with unbridled pride and arrogance with god-like physical prowess and I'll probably love them forever (plus also, ow my heart)

Kassandra (Assassin's Creed Odyssey) - *heart eye emoji* but fr I have such a fondness for Kassandra. She's the perfect mix of stoic big buff lady, hilariously sarcastic sense of humor, and absolute heart of gold. I love her characterisation and think she's such a fantastically written character. Plus... I want her to pick me up and cuddle me so bad

Lilo (Lilo and Stitch) - I think it's a tragedy that Lilo is often forgotten due to not being a Disney princess bc she is honestly such a wonderful character. Lilo and Stitch is one of my favourite movies, and I admire how resilient, loving, eccentric and curious Lilo is

Xandri Corelel (the Xandri Corelel series) - The Xandri Corelel is one of my favourite sci-fi series and that is, in part, bc of Xandri herself. She's the first autistic woman I encountered in sci-fi and I adored how the series explores how her autism is what makes her an excellent head of xeno-liaisons. She's also bisexual and polyamorous so even further brilliant rep for me, and tbh is just a great character all round

I tried not to write an essay but it's really hard when I could talk about these characters all day but hopefully this was vaguely fun/interesting for people to read And in case anyone is interested some of my other favourite characters who didn't quite include the top 10 include: Jirou Kyoka (BNHA), Kirishima Eijirou (BNHA), Itadori Yuji (JJK), Nishinoya Yuu (HQ), Tanaka Ryu (HQ), Kuroo Tetsurou (HQ), Miya Atsumu (HQ), Zagreus (Hades), Moana and Rapunzel (Disney), Fang Runin (The Poppy War), Kunigami Rensuke (bluelock), Bachira Meguru (bluelock), Sebastian (Stardew Valley), and Vash the Stampede (Trigun Stampede)

It's late when you come home from work. You just want to relax with your beautiful greek girlfriend. Nothing too fancy, just a bit cuddling on the couch watching TV.

You open the front door, remove your jacket and place the keys on the dresser. You say, "I'm home". No response.

You walk into the living room and you see Kassandra sitting in the armchair, saying "Finally, darling" and smirking in the most sexy way possible. Her white button down shirt was open, revealing her muscles. Not only that; she was wearing her riding boots and her skin tight black chaps without wearing anything underneath. Well, except for her strap standing at attention between her legs...

I NEED to see Zed and Mara learn that Beck is the Renegade. I need to see them realize that the reason he’s been so scarce since Bodhi’s death isn’t cause he’s been drinking his grief away or WHATEVER they thought was going on with him and Cyrus. I need them to confront the possibility that Beck is the reason Able’s dead. The best part of a secret identity plotline is when the characters close to the protag LEARN ABOUT IT.

And, I feel like once kass gets a gf she’s like “lets watch my fav show!!” but then comments on it the whole time because she knows everything about it and can’t help but analyze

I wouldn't know how to answer the first question, mainly because I have the attention span of a dog on caffeine so I haven't been able to sit through many films or tv-shows with episodes longer than 20 mins 😬. But Kass is probably more inclined towards history-related stuff, and Eivor towards fantasy stuff?

Modern!Kass is a total history nerd and can't help but geek-out over the things she's interested in, and she's so passionate that you can't help but ignore the show and lose yourself in the sound of her voice🥺. And she's expressive with the arm that isn't around your shoulders or waist, mapping things out with her hand, trying to illustrate her thoughts and theories for you to follow.

She'll be halfway through her fourth tangent when it dawns that you haven't taken your eyes off her since she started rambling, and that's one of the few times you'll ever see her embarrassed by anything. Kass will awkwardly apologise, but you'll just curl into her even more, kiss her gently and let her know that you care way more about her passions than what's on the telly, urging her to continue. And that's when she hears wedding bells (you have been officially dating for three weeks (that's perfectly reasonable though by lesbian standards)) ❤️

2. What's your favourite fandom you've ever been in with regards to the media itself?

probably black sails because it's just hands down the best show i've ever watched and my favorite tv show of all time? i don't know that i really consider myself "in" fandom per se, i hardly ever interact with other fans or when i do it's because we just so happened to both like it even though we follow each other for different stuff, if that makes sense? but yeah. black sails is the GOAT

5. Any media you wish you never got into?

ehh not really? sure there's plenty of stuff that i no longer enjoy or maybe look back at and cringe, but i'm a firm believer that everything happens to you for a reason and different things will resonate with you at different times in your life for different reasons, and the media you consume is also a part of that. the important thing is that i've grown and moved on.

like okay let's take the harry potter books as an example. i grew up with them, they (along with american girls lol) got me into reading, it was really fun to read the books and watch the movies and theorize with friends and even visit the theme park. but now it's more and more apparent every day that jkr is an out of touch piece of shit and revisiting the series with a critical lens reveals that, nostalgia aside, they really haven't aged well. i don't see a place in my life for the series anymore, and if i do have kids one day it's not something i will encourage them to read... but at the same time i don't regret the joy or the happy memories i had in the past when i was younger and less critical / less aware. it is what it is, i've moved on but i don't have any regrets. knowing that i used to derive value or meaning or happiness from the series but no longer do doesn't keep me up at night.

8. What's your favourite character of all time?

i want to say kassandra but that also feels like a cop-out answer because so much of why i feel drawn to her is just projection. the truth is the eagle bearer (both kassandra and alexios) is a very loosely-characterized protagonist for the player to shape and mold as they see fit. so when i say that kassandra is a favorite character, my version of kassandra as my fave is probably vastly different from someone else who also considers kassandra their fave. for that reason, i don't know how i feel about definitively stating that she is my favorite (although she is top 2).

so let's go with another disastrous, chaotic, himbo-adjacent ass-kicking female half of a prolific battle couple who is maybe a little more fleshed out but nonetheless still fiercely loyal, still with so much love in her weird feral little heart, still tragic to the core and in need of a fuckton of therapy

7. Any media/fandom you will avoid at all costs?

I can't do horror movies or TV shows at all - I can't even do parody horror movies or TV shows without getting nightmares. But I watched the first episode of Yellowjackets and even though it gave me nightmares that night, it was so fascinating that I kinda want to watch more anyway 😂

11. Is there any fanon that annoys you?

While I admit that I do it myself in some of my fics, I am not the biggest fan of fics that make Kassandra or Alexios super proud of being Spartan. It just doesn't make sense to me after Sparta threw them to their deaths. Similarly, although I think Nikolaos deeply regretted that night on Taygetos, I don't think Kassandra or Alexios would forgive him easily, or at all.

As for a non AC Odyssey fandom, I have a love/hate relationship with the idea of lordships in the Harry Potter fanon - sometimes I think it's done well and sometimes I think it's terrible. My big problem with it is that it often glorifies the pureblood culture and Death Eater rhetoric which is really fucked up.

19. What type of fanfiction do you usually read?

Pretty much anything! I like fix its and long AU retellings best though, and while I do read it sometimes, I'm pretty picky about the angst I read.

Hey there, @triyal!

1．Tell us about your current project(s) – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?

If you've been following me for any length of time, you know what my current obsession project's all about. I'm still working on second-pass edits for the last handful of chapters in the book, while simultaneously doing final polish edits on chapters before posting them. (We're up to chapter 20 of 39!)

I'm really hoping to get second-pass edits wrapped up so I can start working on something else.

What I've loved about this book is the fucking audacity of it: the subject matter, the choice of POV/tense, Kyra as my POV character, the ambitions I have for the narrative. This is a work that the publishing industry would call "a challenging book to sell." It's certainly been a challenge to write.

(I'm also irrationally proud of the ending.)

4. Share a sentence or paragraph from your writing that you’re really proud of (explain why, if you like)

I was joking with someone in a side chat that I've written too many bangers in "The Breaking" for me to choose just one, and I probably deserved their response that it's a wonder my head can still fit through a doorway...

So I'll pick this line from "And the Currents Collide":

Kassandra arrived at the Altar of Artemis under night-shrouded skies that had just begun to soften with the pale light of dissolving stars.

A lot of assonance and consonance in that sentence—the initial run of a sounds giving way to all those s'es—along with an intriguing image of "dissolving stars."

21. What other medium do you think your story would work well as? (film, webcomic, animated series?)

Parts of "The Breaking" might make an interesting stage play. Hear me out: there's not a whole lot of action and the meaty parts of the book are mostly dialogue between two leads. It could work!

23. What’s the story idea you’ve had in your head for the longest?

I've wanted to tell a rip-roarin' redemption story since I watched Xena on broadcast TV in the 90s. My teenage self envisioned it as a Xena fic of course, but that trope was already so so overdone and besides, teenage me couldn't write her way out of a paper bag. (I also had zero life experience so my fiction would have had the emotional complexity of a turnip.)

So I set the idea aside.

Twenty years later, AC Odyssey drops the perfect redemptive protagonist into my lap: deimos!Kassandra, along with an equally compelling romantic possibility in Kyra. I've also had twenty years of Doing and Seeing Some Shit and have somehow learned to write.

So here's hoping this book resonates a little better than a turnip!

Extra bonus asks:
