SO I managed to get the iconic millennial PC game The Oregon Trail 5 (a la “you have died of dysentery”) working on my laptop, and for obvious reasons* I'm fascinated by both The Beatles and the Donner Party so naturally I've decided to take The Beatles on the Donner Party route. *I'm a big fan of suffering.
Tumblr media
They're leaving Independence, Missouri in June 1846 just like the Donner-Reed Party, and are headed for what is now California. John is in charge (I imagine he wouldn't go otherwise) so if/when he dies it's game over.
(btw I don't want to clog up anyone's dashboard so you might want to block the tag 'the beatles oregon trail 5' bc I'll tag everything with that.)

something that bothers me about the way we discuss sam and dean as kids is that people seem to forget that 4 years is like.. not an insignificant age gap when it comes to siblings

“Yet you are the holy God, ruling from your throne and praised by Israel. Our ancestors trusted you, and you rescued them. When they cried out for help, you saved them, and you did not let them down when they depended on you.” —Psalm 22:3‭-‬5 (CEV)
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.” —Isaiah 26:3‭-‬4 (NLT)
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.” —John 14:1 (NLT)
“All Is Calm: Receiving Jesus' Rest This Christmas” Devotional By Moody Publishers - Day Five: “Trust His Faithfulness:”
“Do you trust Me?” That question confronts us daily, from the moment we wake up to the moment we go to sleep. Because to trust means to rest, and to rest means to trust.
Think about it: You wouldn’t anchor your Christmas tree in a stand that’s missing a leg, and you wouldn’t ask someone who’s always late to bring the hors d’oeuvres for the Christmas party.
Whether we realize it or not, we’re constantly evaluating the trustworthiness of the things and people around us. We do the same thing in our relationship with God, subtly negotiating just how much we’ll entrust to Him.
Whether it’s our finances, broken relationships, hidden hurts, or future dreams, we evaluate God’s faithfulness in the past to determine whether or not we can trust Him in our present.
But it’s in the midst of this holiday busyness that our trust or mistrust becomes most evident.
…We’ll stuff ourselves with cookies, pies, and holiday hams if we don’t trust Jesus to be the Bread of Life who satisfies our deepest desires.
…We’ll worry about our prodigal child if we don’t trust Jesus to be the Good Shepherd who brings lost sheep home.
…We’ll wallow in loneliness, feeling forgotten, if we don’t trust Jesus to be Immanuel, the God who dwells with us even when we’re alone.
…We’ll hustle to create the perfect Christmas if we don’t trust Jesus to be the Holy One of God who makes us perfect.
Each moment is a new opportunity to trust God’s faithfulness in a million little ways, and it all starts with learning to rest.
What if instead of rushing headlong into our busy days, we started each morning with the simple practice of resting? Let us, as the psalmist does, instruct our souls to find rest in Him alone: to remember His works and His goodness, to express our desperate need for Him, to still our minds and hearts in His presence, and to declare our confidence in His trustworthiness.
Because the One who spoke the world into existence yet came as a helpless babe that holy, blissful, silent night, can speak calm and peace into our own lives today.
Reflection Questions: Which of Jesus’ names speak to you and the specific challenges you’re facing in your own life? What does it look like to trust and rest in God this Christmas season? What would you do differently?”
More Bible readings:
“Only God gives inward peace, and I depend on him. God alone is the mighty rock that keeps me safe, and he is the fortress where I feel secure. God saves me and honors me. He is that mighty rock where I find safety. Trust God, my friends, and always tell him each of your concerns. God is our place of safety.” —Psalm 62:5‭-‬8 (CEV)
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” —John 14:27 (ESV)

The Call of the First Disciples (Matthew 4:18-22; Mark 1:16-20; Luke 5:1-11; John 1:37-51)
16 As He was going along the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen. 17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will have you become fishers of people.” 18 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. 19 And going on a little farther, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John, who were also in the boat mending the nets. 20 Immediately He called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and went away to follow Him.

Four Dimensions, Deeper Love: How God Loves You Back
Four Dimensions, Deeper Love: How God Loves You Back
In Ephesians, Paul mentions the four dimensions of God’s love as if everyone knew about them; so tell me, have YOU ever thought about the four dimensions of Christ’s love? In his book of superlatives, Paul talks about where God’s love is planted, and what it looks like. Even if you think you have love all figured out, his description is a revelation that will push your boundaries and redefine…

"This Life" / "The Way"
“This Life” / “The Way”
When I was in college there was a cult pouring its poison into unsuspecting students who didn’t know their Bible. Truth is there were dozens of these cults stalking the spiritual lives of young impressionable students. The one that I am thinking of called itself  “THE  WAY”. They used biblical words, talked a lot about “Jesus” and offered a weekend class called “Power for Abundant Living” for…

"PASS THE PLATE PLEASE!"
2 Kings 7:9, “Then they said to each other, “What we’re doing is not right. This is a day of good news AND WE ARE KEEPING IT TO OURSELVES…” (NIV) So, Thanksgiving is almost here and it immediately makes me think about sitting at the family table. You see, somewhere in the ‘Fathers Handbook’, I’m convinced it says that the father automatically gets to carve the turkey, or the ham, or the roast.…

“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” —John 14:6 (NIV)
“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” —Psalm 55:22 (NIV)
“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.” —John 5:24 (NIV)
“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.” —Romans 15:4 (NIV)
“The Bible is Alive” Devotional By YouVersion - Day 6: “The Bible Brings Hope”:
Ghana* was a devout Muslim until she discovered the life-transforming power of Jesus in 2016. But after converting to Christianity, she was abandoned, shunned, and ostracized by her community and family. At one point, her children were taken away from her and sent to a different country.
And although Ghana refused to renounce Jesus, she found herself without a solid support system to help her grow closer in her faith. Lonely and depressed, she even considered committing suicide. But eventually she met someone who downloaded YouVersion onto her phone.
At first Ghana wasn’t interested, but later she began reading the Verse of the Day at dawn so that she could meditate on its meaning and use it as a guide for her day. And over time, something unexpected happened…
“The verses became alive and dwelt inside of me. They taught me how to deal with people in healthy ways, and they helped me recover from my depression. Even though I was abandoned, I found comfort any time I read it. Anytime I read the Verse of the Day, in some special way it lifts me up and gives me hope. It’s as if God is always directly speaking to me through the verses.”
Ghana now looks for opportunities to share the Verse of the Day everywhere she goes. She posts verses online to encourage her community, and talks about Scripture at work with her coworkers and clients.
Her story is just one example of what God’s Word can do in all of us. Situations may shift, emotions may fluctuate, people may disappoint or abandon us—but the Word of God endures forever. And because of that, we can experience peace and hope that transcends our circumstances. Because when we allow God’s Word into our hearts, it will remain there.
Today, ask God to bring His Word to life in you by praying this prayer:
God, You made me and You know me. You alone have the power to transform my life. So today I am asking You to align my life with Your Word. No matter what I face, give me the boldness to remain true to Your Word so that I can proclaim Your truth and love to the people You place in my life. Make the roots of my faith grow down deep as I draw close to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God's Law for the Lost and for the Rescued (197) - June 10 2023
LISTEN TO THIS PODCAST Romans 3:20 (AMPC) states that [the real function of] the Law is to make men recognize and be conscious of sin [not mere perception, but an acquaintance with sin which works toward repentance, faith, and holy character]. For the born-again believer in Christ, Romans 6:14 shows they are no longer under the Law as slaves, but under grace as subjects of God’s favor and…
