Hi! I love your art and was just curious. Will you ever draw any of the maidens from the maiden's day ball from asoiaf? I would love to see them in your art style but it's perfectly fine if you don't. Make sure to drink lots of water and get a lot of rest 💙

In your opinion, do some of the more dubious moments in ASOIAF (Rhaegar and Lyanna, Dany and Drogo, Dany and Jorah, Tyrion and Tysha, Cersei and Taena, Theon and Jeyne, Lysa and Petyr) count as rape/assault/grooming?
Let's go through this answer case by case.
Rhaegar and Lyanna
Ah, probably the most controversial "Did she consent to it or not?" in the whole story - and for good reason since we only ever hear about it from other people. However, even taking that into account, there are enough hints in the books to shed some light into that mistery - and honestly, I think it points to BOTH "Lyanna ran off with Rhaegar willingly" and "Rhaegar was asshole who took advantage and ruined her life" being true.
Lyanna didn't want to marry Robert. She objected to it repeatedly, and we hear all the time about how she has the "wolf's blood" - and Ned, the person who was likely the least in the dark about all of this, said that this "wolf's blood" led both his brother and his sister to an early grave, implying that she did go with Rhaegar willingly.
Rhaegar was also seen as handsome, charming, clever, and just basically every woman's dream husband. It is not impossible that Lyanna took a liking to him. Rhaegar would also not be the first Targaryen prince/king to elope with the woman he loved, and Aegon the conqueror became king of Westeros with his TWO wives. He could have easily used those tales about his family to assure Lyanna that things would be fine, that her running away with him wasn't that crazy of an idea and that there wouldn't be tragic consequences.
We also have Jon Snow, who we are 99% sure is her son in the books like he was in the show, constantly discussing "bride stealing/kidnaping" with Ygritte, which is treated not as real kidnaping but essentially as courting, with the woman choosing to elope with him or not. We we even hear the story of Beal the Bard, the king-beyond-the-wall who pretended to be a singer, was allowed to take a flower from Lord Stark's garden - and in the morning, Lord Stark's daughter is gone, but there is a blue winter rose in her place, a flower that is CONSTANTLY associated with Lyanna in the books. Once again, the story is told as love story.
But, while all of that gives us a pretty romantic, happy start to their story, we cannot forget how it ended: Lyanna all alone in a tower, dying while giving birth, seemingly completely in the dark about the fact that Rhaegar's family has been killing hers as no one bothered to explain to the Starks that no, she wasn't kidnapped, she went with him willingly.
And Rhaegar did not elope with her just out of love. He was trying to fullfil a prophecy. He needed a woman to give him another son - the right son - and clearly priotized making sure that child would not be taken by the Starks or anyone else over, ya know, not raging war against Lyanna's family.
The power imbalance between them is also quite great. Rhaegar is an adult, Lyanna is not. Rhaegar is a married man taking a mistress, Lyanna is dishonoring herself by sleeping with him. Rhaegar is the future king, free to go wherever he wants, Lyanna is a noble girl that is far away from her family and locked up in a tower. The further they get from Winterfell, the more Lyanna has to rely solely on Rhaegar - and look where it got her.
So yeah, in all likelyhood it started out as a love story, but ended with Lyanna losing all agency, her family, and even her life - things Rhaegar could have at least tried to prevent, yet we get no indication that he did.
Dany and Drogo
Just their first time is already one hell of a controversial topic. Daenerys is 13, she's terrified, she just wants to go home and be a kid. She is also being courted by Drogo and they do share some nice moments during their wedding. Then it's time for the wedding night, and Daenerys is once again cowering in fear and in fact tries to cover her body up, but Drogo won't let her. However he also tries to be reassuring, gentle AND asks her permission to go all the way, and she accepts. Dany goes to non-consenting to as consenting as someone in her position can be, and then back, A LOT. It's mixed-bag.
But let's not forget what Drogo does when Dany is clearly NOT consenting, and is in fact hurt, crying, terrified, and freaking suicidal. He takes what he wants anyway. She's his wife, so he is usually kinder to her than he would ever even consider being to any of the random women he raped, but he does still view her as property. If she's being all sweet and willing, great! If she's not, then she's gonna have to endure because the decision of when they do and do not have sex is his to make. In his mind, he probably thinks "I was nice to her the first time and she agreeded to it - that means she's ALWAYS up for it" because if the idea of marital rape is already something the people in that universe can't grasp, the idea that a wife consenting to sex with her husband once doesn't mean she has consented for EVERYTIME might as well be just a bunch of nonsensical words to them.
Now, Dany does take some more control later on. She becomes as equal to Drogo in the relationship as she could possibly ever be (again, considering her age and Drogo's mentality), and the two of them end up genuinely falling in love, and sex with him becomes something Dany quite likes instead of just more suffering. But retroactive consent doesn't exist.
Lets say that Dany was an adult who married Drogo willingly, they got along right away, and for months all the sex between them was consensual. Then one night she turns him down and he doesn't take no for an answer. The one non-consensual time doesn't magically make all the previous times they had sex sudddenly become rape, nor does the fact that it all started out consensual change the fact that he did rape her that one night.
Drogo raped Daenerys. The feelings they would develop for each other later on and all the times she did consent don't change that fact.
Dany and Jorah
A way more mild exemple compared to the previous one, but still worth discussing.
In the third book, Jorah kisses Dany, and that kiss is the thing that sort of re-awakens her sexuality, which had been dormant since her husband died AND since she was in a lot of pain due to the truly agonizing birth of her child, that had already been dead, but also wasn't, but kind of was. Anyways, Dany kind of liked the kiss - even though it's very clear she wishes it had not been with Jorah, but rather with someone younger (her lovers are all men, as in fully grown adults, but they're not thrice her age like him).
However, let's look a the actual scene.
Dany is changing her clothes in a hurry, not thinking much about the fact that Jorah is there (she did walk around with one breast out nearly all the time after all, and he did not do anything other than look). This time though, he surprises her and pulls her for a kiss, and while Dany doesn't really struggle, she does think to herself "I'm his queen, not his woman."
She tells him he shouldn't have done it, he replies that he shouldn't have waited that long. He keeps on staring at her naked chest, and she covers up. She says it wasn't right and that she is his queen - a very clear "Don't do anything I didn't give you permission to do" - he calls her the most brave and beautiful woman he has ever seen and calls her by her name, leading to her very sternly reminding him to call her "Your grace." Jorah agrees... and then goes on to talk about how no man would ever be as faithful to her as him, and it's very clear he isn't saying that just because he is her loyal knight, but rather to once again declare his romantic attraction to her.
Daenerys is being VERY clear and rejecting him. But every word she says goes in one ear and out the other because Jorah doesn't want to listen to what she has to say. He did not kiss her again (as full on forcing himself on her out be VERY out of character for him), but his complete disregard for her repeated verbal objections to his attempt of making her think of him as a potential lover are not great.
And it makes perfect sence considering WHY he is so "in love." While he genuinely connects with Dany, the attraction comes from the fact that she looks just like his second wife, the one who loved and who abandoned him to be part of a rich man's harem.
Whenever Jorah acts on his feelings for "Dany", Daenerys is, ironically, the last thing on his mind. He is thinking of his desires, his pain, his feelings. The girl in front of him be damned - she's just an object of lust/affection, despite her clear discomfort.
Tyrion and Tysha
This one is rather easy. It 100% is rape - however, Tysha AND Tyrion are being victimized, because the real abuser, the one holding all the power, is Tywin.
The whole "give her to the guards" thing was HIS idea, and Tyrion, who was just 13-years-old, says he was FORCED to watch, and then to rape her as well, and it's clear the event messed with his head. WE feel sorry for Tysha and think of how horrible that must have been for her, but Tywin's intention was to hurt TYRION, and she was just a way to do it, not a person.
Tysha went through hell on that moment, but so did Tyrion - and that was by design.
Cersei and Taena
The argument for this one is even simpler: Cersei's intention was to assault Taena, therefore this one should be treated, at the very least, as attempted rape, if not full on rape.
She had been thinking of all the times Robert raped her before she decided to assault Taena, deliberately hurt her and blamed it on the wine before saying she'd have what she'd want anyways because she's the queen - almost word for word what Robert used to say to her. And during the act, Cersei is fantasizing about torturing Taena to death.
"Oh, but she was aroused, seemed to enjoy it, and even offered to fuck Cersei too!"
1 - Cersei explicitly mentioned said to her "I'm the queen, you don't get to say no to me." The message was very clear that even if Taena didn't want it, she'd have no choice but to play along.
2 - Taena ALWAYS knows what to say to make Cersei happy anyways. She made up the whole bullshit story of "Loras is totally in love with his sister and joined the king's guard to be near her" because she knew it was Cersei's love story with Jaime and thus she'd be super biased to believe it. OF COURSE she'd play along to anything Cersei did.
3 - Arousal and orgasm are involuntary. It's just the body reacting to what is being done to it. It is NOT the same as consent.
4 - Even if we assume Taena was attracted to Cersei, wanted to have sex with her, and truly enjoyed herself that night, once again, Cersei's INTENTION was rape. Imagine that Cersei serves her food that was supposed to be poisoned, but for whatever reason it ended up not killing her, and intead Taena only had a lovely dinner - it's still attempted murder, even if Taena never realized it.
Cersei wanted to make Taena her victim. End of story.
Theon and Jeyne
Once again, this one is very simple. When Theon "warms up" Ramsay's wife for him, he is doing it under the direct of threat of "If you don't do as I say, I'll torture you until you beg for death, then torture you some more." It's like when Jeyne says she'll do anything Ramsay wants her to, with anyone he desires, including the dogs, and adds a "He doesn't have to cut my foot" at the end.
Both of them are Ramsay's victims. Theon was terrified as Jeyne. It absolutely was rape, but the rapist was Ramsay.
Lysa and Petyr
When Lysa went to Petyr's bed to sleep with him, he had been so drunk, that he mistook her for Catelyn. The second time they sleep together, hehad just gotten beaten so badly by Brandon (Cat's would-be-husband) that Catelyn had to BEG for his life. Naturally, with someone in that poor condition, he was given plenty of things to help with the pain - and as the books have stablished all the time, these lead to very weird dreams and leave the person way out of it.
This throws any consent Petyr could have given in both nights out the window, because even if Lysa asked his permission before doing anything, he was barely even understanding what was going on around him. If consent was impossible, it was rape by default.
Now, we know that Petyr will not only brag about these two night, but also go on to sleep with Lysa many more times and even become her husband eventually. But let's not forget the context here.
1 - Like I explained in the Daenerys and Drogo bit, retroactive consent doesn't exist. It doesn't matter how many times he had consensual sex with Lysa, it does not magically erase the fact that that first two times were rape.
2 - The idea of a man being raped by a woman is just not something the society of Westeros thinks is possible, so naturally Petyr would NEVER understand that what Lysa did to him was assault. At most he'd be bitter that "slept with the wrong sister"
3 - Petyr is very clearly lying to himself about A LOT of things. He convinced himself Catelyn loved him, that he slept with both Tully sisters, that Sansa is BOTH the daughter he and Catelyn never had AND Catelyn 2.0.. Him being in denial about potentially feeling abused, or at the very least angry that he was "tricked", because the story of "Everyone tried to humiliate me but I just ended up fucking my crush AND her sister" makes him feel better about a event that was deeply traumatic to him in a ton of different ways.

"A tournament!" Lady Jeyne Merryweather squealed, jumping letter in hand, unable to contain her artless excitement.
The widowed Clarice Osgrey, was non-the impressed, chastising Jeyne for her unmannerly response. Women according to Clarice Osgrey were to be refined creatures, always pleasantly smiling without issue, without boldness. You suppressed a snort, Lady Clarice Osgrey would despise your true self if it ever came to light.
Lady Clarice Osgrey was the widowed Aunt of Unwin Peake, Lord of Starpike, and hand of the king. Lord Unwin Peake had brought his kin to court and had inserted them all over the castle and king's guard. He had delegated Lady Clarice Osgrey the position of mistress of Queen Helena’s household which gave her the responsibility to oversee the house's maids, servants, and ladies-in-waiting.
"We are to set a good example," Clarice Osgrey continued, "Our actions reflect directly on the noble Targaryen House,"
Alyssa Royce's cool gaze arose from her book, her stern face cold and untelling, "Are we to participate in the celebrations?" She quietly closed her book, resting it beside her on the padded upholstered seat.
You could discern Alyssa Royce's prudent distaste for such, her heavy discomfort in the social eye. However, Lord Unwin Peake's daughter, Myrielle Peake perked in interest. The young girl, browned-haired and eyed, was dressed in the most decadent of garments, her gowns heavily woven and textiled with intricate designs. It mirrored her House's wealth, a great contrast from the plain, olive clothing you sported.
"We must!" Lady Jeyne Merryweather exclaimed her enthusiasm unmatched, "A Targaryen tourney and ball will be remembered for centuries to come," She lowered her voice, catching Lady Clarice Osgrey's sobering frown, "All the great nobles would certainly be in attendance."
"And shall will we," Lady Osgrey set aside her tambour frame, abandoning her tapestry to approach her Great Niece "But I expect you all to be on your utmost best behavior." She signaled Myrielle Peake to follow, "You are to accompany me," She said shortly before the two left the sunroom arm in arm. To no doubt visit Myrielle's father, you mused.
Within the last few weeks, you had kept a watchful eye on Myrielle Peake, carefully observing the soft-spoken and seemingly naive girl. The corner of your mouth twitched knowingly. In actuality, Myrielle was rather like you—cunningly disguising her paramount ambition, in a veil of innocence. Myrielle Peake along with her conspiring father Lord Unwin Peake longed to further their House's influence and stature. Lord Peake's intention to wed his only daughter into the Targaryen household was more or less apparent.
There were other Houses too, (House Baratheon coming particularly in mind) that rose from their humble abodes looking to snare themselves a slice of influence. In truth, you too were enthralled by the allure of power, to be respected, to be loved, to be feared—however, with your House's diminished reputation and loss of wealth you'd have no choice but to settle for less.
Jeyne Merryweather awaited for Myrielle Peake and her Great Aunt to leave the room before squeezing herself between you and Alyssa Royce, simultaneously sitting upon Royce's book. Alyssa's lips shriveled in annoyance but she said nothing.
"Care to know what is being revealed during the Targaryen tournament?" Jeyne leaned close, hapless against her nature for gossip.
"Prince Jaehaerys and Princess Jaehaera individual betrothals," You inferred, while you added touches to the golden hibiscus you’d embroidered onto a black cut of ribbon.
"Prince Daeron's betrothal too," Jeyne added.
You hummed. It appeared the Dowager Queen Alicent had been successful after all, appeasing the Lannisters after Aemond's stunt with Cerelle Lannister.
"Which sister was decided upon?"
"Cerelle," Jeyne dramatically sighed, her posture slumping, "Had I been but half as wealthy, I could have stood a chance to wed Prince Daeron myself."
"Improbable," Alyssa Royce muttered, displeased her book was still being sat upon.
"Perhaps in another life, the gods will bless you with a Prince," You encouraged Jeyne to stand, allowing Alyssa to swipe her book from underneath, "Woefully we must do with the cards we are dealt."
Jeyne's sulking was short-lived, another sensitive piece of information coming to mind, "I too, know whom the Prince and Princess are to be betrothed to."
"And how is it you came across such privileged information?" You were genuinely curious.
"From a handsome knight, one whose brother is a Lord on the small council." Jeyne gave her sources freely without hesitation, "Princess Jaehaera is to be paired to Rickon Stark eldest son and heir of Lord Cregan Stark. While Prince Jaehaerys is to be betrothed to Floris Baratheon, the prettiest of the Four Storm Sisters."
The Targaryens were spreading themselves thin in order to forge new treaties, you solved—their need for allies stronger than their need to keep their bloodline pure.
"Floris Baratheon?" You inquired, raising a brow.
"Surprising, isn't it?" Jeyne Merryweather played with the ends of her fiery braided hair, "I would have assumed since Lady Cassandra Baratheon, Lord Borros Baratheon's eldest was no longer promised to the Prince Aemond, that she'd now take the Prince Jaehaerys' as her betrothed,"
"And why didn't she?"
You’d safely presume the highborn Lady had broken her ties with Prince Aemond in order to bind herself to Prince Jaehaerys instead. A young boy, and King Aegon's heir. He’d be effortlessly easier to mold and manipulate, unlike Aemond.
"The Dowager Queen specifically requested Floris Baratheon, sighting the Lady Cassandra too old, and too headstrong for her grandson," Jeyne commented.
It was feasible that Dowager Queen had seen through Lady Cassandra's intentions. You carried on threading the needle, starting on the head of a dragon. How observant was the old queen truly? Could she see through your charade also?
"With hope, we'll find ourselves good-looking suitors, during the tournament." Jeyne Merryweather clasped her hands, her voice buoyant and filled with a new optimism.
You grimly smiled in response, finishing the last of the golden dragon's tail. The pressure was mounting from your Aunt to settle with an affluent, and moneyed Lord. You had but a few weeks to garner a proposal, or else your House's debts would consume what little you had left. Your lands would be seized, and your household would crumble to non-existence.
Tumblr media
The first day of the tournament was blessed by the bright and brilliant sun, one which brought warmth and color, and lifted the early morning fog. The Targaryen tourney held back no expense, the ground immaculately decorated in reds and blacks, and a new jousting area was constructed to resemble the old, which had been burned down during the war. A green tent was hoisted for the guest in the stands, offering shade as they watched as the Lords and anointed knights of the realm joust for glory. Furthermore, musicians from all over Westeros were hired, the sound of their trumpets and horns being heard for miles.
Aemond was adorned in black-coated armor, twice as strong as bronze, with a gold dragon embossed into his metal chest plate. The leathers he wore underneath his chainmail were reinforced, to ensure the utmost protection was given to his limbs while his metal boots were specifically molded for his feet alone. He glanced himself over in the mirror, satisfied he was but missing his helmet which was strikingly welded into the shape of a dragon.
"Thank you, Lady Merryweather," Ser Julian Wormwood accepted her favor, pinning her silver broach against the little material that showed itself at the base of his neck.
Aemond continuously peered toward the tent's entrance, impatient for he was yet to set his sights upon you. To increase his chances of running into you, he had purposely chosen to prepare himself along with the knights, passing up on the opportunity for his own tent. Aemond reached for his helmet, grumbling under his breath. Too long had passed since the evening he'd stumbled into you in the kitchens. He could still vividly remember how your crimson eyes cast down, your phantom touch, how you'd mindlessly stroked down his reddened cheek where his mother had struck him so. Embarrassed, you had quickly excused yourself, escaping the kitchens with a sudden haste.
You followed after the high-born ladies Floris and Cassandra Baratheon, having spent the morning helping them iron their skirts and lace up their corsets. Cassandra Baratheon, the dark-haired and honeyed-eyed lady was scantily-dressed in comparison to her sister, her low plunging neckline turning heads and conjuring whispers. Cassandra wanted to cause a stir, she wanted to be noticed. She was infuriated for being forfeited, believing it ought to have been her betrothed to King Aegon's son and heir. You pitied the younger Floris, who was clearly hurt by her sister's disdain towards her.
Cassandra Baratheon walked in front, breaking off from the rest of the ladies. As she advanced, she deliberately shoved Jeyne Merryweather who'd been in the midst of conversing with Ser Julian Wormwood. Floris Baratheon made no attempt to head after her sister, preferring the company of a near stranger like yourself.
She tugged on the sleeve of your gown, peering up to you for direction, "What am I to do?"
"It is customary that a lady offers her favor to one who participates in a joust," You explained to the girl, tearing the orange sash you'd pre-prepared, in half. You gave her the longer of the two pieces.
"Prince Jaehaerys is not here?" She nervously looked about for her betrothed.
He was not. Both the Dowager Queen Alicent and Queen Helena had agreed he was too young to take part and would sit up in the stands with the rest of the nobles.
"How about your Uncle Ser Boremund Baratheon then?" You suggested.
The young girl nodded, slowly releasing the sleeve of your dress, "Will you sit with me later during the joust?" Her mousy voice was painfully shy.
"I'm to sit alongside Princess Jaehaera but you are welcome to join us. I'm sure the Princess would appreciate a new friend."
As you watched Floris Baratheon go, you began to sense a heated gaze. Your body instinctively turned to your left, in the direction of Prince Aemond who was standing in front of a mirror tall enough to capture the entirety of his frame. Your stomach flipped. Aemond in his black-plated armor, his silver hair handsomely falling beside his shoulders. Your eyes lock with his in the mirror's reflection, an amused grin sitting upon his lips.
"My Lady Y/N Vermillion," An eager voice broke your stupor.
Ser Simon Strong, the nephew of Lord Lyonel Strong, approached, smiling. He was wearing silver shell armor, adjoined to steel chainmail, and a long draping white cape that was fastened around his neck.
He bowed, taking your hand in his and placing a chaste kiss on your knuckles. "We haven't the pleasure of being formally introduced,"
You politely curtsied, conscious of Aemond's piercing glare.
"I fought aside your cousins in the war." Ser Simon Strong was yet, to release your hand, "They spoke so highly of you. I knew one day our paths must cross."
Your face softened at the mention of your cousins, you had been very fond of them. Their loss, shattering your Aunt's heart to pieces.
"It'd be my honor, to wear your favor today during the joust," Ser Simon Strong said noting the torn orange sash in your grasp.
You tentatively handed Ser Simon Strong the sash, brushing aside Aemond's darkening aura and the glint of rage which simmered behind his violet eye.
"I shall do Milady proud," He bobbed his head in thanks, "It is very nice to have finally met you,"
"Likewise," You replied, looking on as Ser Simon Strong left the tent.
"Likewise?" An irked voice echoed, tempest building behind his words.
You need not turn to know who loomed behind you. You could sense Aemond's ill-concealed anger, his hot breath lingering against your neck.
"Prince Aemond," You acknowledged, doing your best to bury the heat that bubbled in the bottom of your core.
You kept your expression neutral. The tent may have been near empty but there were still a few ladies such as Myrielle Peake and Cassandra Baratheon loitering around. Their prying eyes train themselves on you. There was no reason for Aemond to address you so, to take such a particular interest. If you were to express any sort of familiarity, it'd only cause talk and scandal amongst those at court.
"Ñuha darling rūklon, ao ōdrio nyke sīr" My Darling Flower, you wound me so. You loosely translated Aemond's Old Valyrian, his breath trickling up your ear. He placed his hands below your shoulders, forcing you to swivel around and face him.
You bit the inner of your cheek, his thumb gingerly brushing your chin forward. There was no way now, the other ladies wouldn’t be suspicious of your relationship.
"First you hide from me," He reverted back to the common tongue, lowering his head, and leveled it with yours, "Then you give your favor—" His teethed gritted, "to a Strong of all people."
The sudden intimacy had made your cheeks flush, “They’re watching us,” You mumbled, your eyes flickering to the side.
“Good,” Aemond murmured back, undeterred, “Let them spread the word,” He’d embrace the hearsay, the talk, for it would convey to others to stay away. That you were his, and his alone.
His other hand still grasped your shoulder tightly, his hold showing no sign of letting go.
Stumped, you closed your eyelids and exhaled sharply. No matter how you proceeded there’d be talk. Regardless, of whether you pushed Aemond away or engaged with him further.
You slowly re-opened your eyes. “I have something for you,” You groaned inwardly having decided upon your next move.
You stared into the violet of his iris, boldly reaching for a strand of his silver hair.
“You ought not to joust with your hair loose, it’s dangerous and could get caught throughout.”
You observed Aemond’s wrath slowly melt, his scowling lips turning upward as he leaned only closer.
“Turn around,” You firmly instructed, urging him to face the mirror.
Aemond did so, intently watching as your delicate fingers began to comb through his hair. He reveled in the sensation, enjoying your ginger touch. You removed a black cut ribbon from the inside of your pocket. The same ribbon you’d been embroidering on the days prior. The golden thread contrasted with the black, and subtly glittered under the tent’s lowlight.
You gently gathered Aemond’s beautifully silver hair, inadvertently admiring how smooth and silk-like it was. After collecting it into a ponytail, you secured it with the black and gold ribbon. Aemond admired you from the mirror, his chest rumbling warm and content.
Tumblr media
The sound of clashing lances, bluntly imploding as two riders on horseback charged, reverberated through the stands. The audience of nobles stood and cheered as a man flew off his mount, his legs caught in his saddle. His frightened horse dragged him across the stony gravel until it finished the length of the course.
Princess Jaehaera flinched, averting her eyes, and focusing on her restless hands instead. She picked at the delicate skin by her fingernails, timidly grimacing as she scored blood. It was a bad habit you noticed she had picked up from her Queen mother Helena. You softly took away the offending hand, advising the Princess the joust would soon be coming to an end.
“Your Uncle Prince Aemond is left, once it’s over we can return to the comforts of your chambers.”
Prince Aemond had not so delicately fought his way through the ranks, coming through to the finals. Admittedly, you were rather impressed by the distinctness of his technique. How relentlessly vicious he was with a sword, his skill in one-to-one combat utterly unmatched by any of the opponents he’d so far faced.
You couldn’t help but compare it to your own expertise—concluding he’d easily overshadowed you if fighting with a longsword. The only way you stood a chance, is with a shield and bow. The distance provided would prove advantageous to Aemond’s dominant and close-combative approach.
Despite, your preference and appreciation for half-swords and daggers. You were always the better archer than a swordsman. You thought back fondly, it’d been years since you were allowed to handle a bow and arrow.
“Prince Aemond Targaryen to battle Ser Amos Bracken!” It was announced, the crowd growing rowdy with anticipation.
You were right in your assumption that Ser Amos Bracken stood no chance against the fearsome Targaryen prince. The hastilude between the two ended quickly, Aemond’s lance hitting with a force that knocked Ser Amos Bracken off his white steed.
You were about to give your applause along with the other nobles when Ser Amos Bracken staggered off the ground, ripping off his helmet, and thrust his sword to point in Prince's direction.
“My lance was tampered with!” He spat, accusing Aemond of cheating.
A hush came over the stand; your mouth parting surprised at the older Lord’s foolishness. To allege someone of royalty was a fraud was a crime in itself but to allege Aemond of all people. You let out an absurd laugh, Ser Amos Bracken was signing his death sentence.
Aemond made a hostile cuss, lurching out of his saddle and landing swiftly on his feet. He unsheathed his Valyrian-steel sword, its unblemished metal gleaming under the rays of the sun. The two circled likes predators, their stances confident and unwavering.
It was Ser Amos Bracken that made the first move, yelling profanities as he struck down his sword. Unintimidated, Aemond skillfully took a step backward. He twirled and orbited around Ser Amos Bracken before defending against his second blow. The two retracted their swords, to strike again. To Ser Amos Bracken’s miscalculation, Aemond’s strength and force were greater than his own. Aemond steadily pushed Ser Amos Bracken's sword back toward his face, leaving Ser Amos Bracken’s only option to duck and lose his position as the aggressor.
You watched attentively, leaning at the edge of your seat. Aemond used his gloved hand to punch Ser Amos Bracken from below. The hit caused his nose to break, while blood pooled down his lips and chin. Aemond then threw another punch, then another.
“Close your eyes,” You hastily whispered to both Princess Jaehaera and Lady Floris Baratheon, unable to tear your own eyes away.
Aemond showed no sign of stopping, his punches growing all the more unconstrained.
“That is enough!” The Dowager Queen Alicent called out, the firmness of her voice demanding to be followed.
You stood with the crowd, leaning closer to the barrier that separated the jousting arena from the stand.
The other Lords and knights erected from the sidelines. Some were badly injured and needed assistance whereas the others that didn’t took out their swords and readied themselves to intervene at the Dowager Queen’s request.
“Step away from Ser Amos Bracken,” Ser Simon Strong of all people bespoke, “This joust is over. You’ve already won.”
Aemond frighteningly stilled suppressing his frenzy. A wolfish grin painted on his lips as he straightened out his legs. Your gaze followed his movements. He unexpectedly dropped his sword, his bloody hands swinging side to side, dripping crimson droplets onto the ground below.
“I look forward to bludgeoning that head of yours Strong.” His words were laced with venom.
Your chest pounded furiously, your palms sweating. Aemond wasn’t intending to brawl with the Lords and knights all at once, was he?
The other knights tensed with the exception of Ser Simon Strong, who looked delighted by the challenge.
“Aemond!” Queen Helena joined her mother, her forehead creasing, “Our mother’s right that’s enough.”
And yet, Aemond carried on, striding, swordless in Ser Simon Strong’s direction. As talented of a fighter Aemond was, he’d still be no match against all of the Lords and Knights, especially considering they were all armed and he was not.
Aemond’s fist raised. He came forth, closing the distance between him and them.
“AEMOND STOP!” Your mouth moved on its own, recognizing the mistake of your actions almost instantaneously.
Aemond halted at once, his boots kicking the gravel as he dug in his heels. He dropped his balled fist, turning his head upward towards the stand.
Your eyes widened, astounded that Aemond had stopped just as you had asked. The masses that surrounded you silenced, staring at you as you had managed to do the impossible. You had somehow managed to restrain a dragon. The Dowager Queen Alicent frowned, cautiously studying you with her unsavory look.
Aemond couldn’t quite explain why he’d stopped… Perhaps it was the desperation of your tone or perhaps the worry that lingered behind his name. He eyed you, your hair fiercely whipping behind you as you stood clutching the wooden barrier. Your beauteous face was shocked, your pretty lips slightly ajar.
“I yield,” Aemond forfeited his pride, heading back to his horse to pick up his lance that lay idle beside it.
Once he’d retrieved his lance, he went to collect his prize— a crown of green mint julep roses. You swallowed, as he approached, hooping the crown of roses on the lance’s sharpest point. He angled it so it was within your reach.
“For my Lady Y/N Vermillion.” Aemond crowned you the Queen of Love and Beauty.

genuine question where do stark antis get the idea that starks are colonizers/white supremacist. I see that accusation brought up with no proof. So i’m very confused?
Because the First Men fought a war with the Children of the Forest, and antis made up the simile between the First Men as colonizers and Children of the Forest as natives.
I bet they didn't read about the war between the First Men and the Children of the Forest from The World of Ice and Fire. The war lasted hundred of years and the COTF were not defenseless, they fought with magic and as fiercely as the First Men, but at the end, they made peace and the COTF influence was so strong that the First Men adopted the Old Gods religion.
Conquest is a word more related to Valyrians in general and Targaryen in particular.
And the white supremacist accusations came from a GOT Season 8 scene where two northern girls were afraid of Missandei. But this was something from D&D, maybe from Jeyne Poole's reaction in AGOT:
Jeyne Poole confessed herself frightened by the look of Jalabhar Xho, an exile prince from the Summer Isles who wore a cape of green and scarlet feathers over skin as dark as night, but when she saw young Lord Beric Dondarrion, with his hair like red gold and his black shield slashed by lightning, she pronounced herself willing to marry him on the instant.
—A Game of Thrones - Sansa II
But Sansa Stark was different. Let's compare these book scenes about Princes from the Summer Islands:
Sansa Stark, praising Jalabhar Xho's native garments and dancing with him during her forced wedding with Tyrion Lannister:
Jalabhar Xho was all in feathers, a plumage so fantastic and extravagant that he seemed like to take flight.
—A Clash of Kings - Sansa VIII
Merry Crane took the floor with the exile prince Jalabhar Xho, gorgeous in his feathered finery.
(...) The music spun them apart before Sansa could think of a reply. It was Mace Tyrell opposite her, red-faced and sweaty, and then Lord Merryweather, and then Prince Tommen. "I want to be married too," said the plump little princeling, who was all of nine. "I'm taller than my uncle!"
"I know you are," said Sansa, before the partners changed again. Ser Kevan told her she was beautiful, Jalabhar Xho said something she did not understand in the Summer Tongue, and Lord Redwyne wished her many fat children and long years of joy. And then the dance brought her face-to-face with Joffrey.
—A Storm of Swords - Sansa III
Daella Targaryen, daughter of King Jaehareys Targaryen:
Once, in the halls of the Red Keep, Daella had encountered a prince from the Summer Isles in his feathered cloak, and squealed in terror. His black skin had made her take him for a demon.
—The Long Reign—Jaehaerys and Alysanne—Policy, Progeny, and Pain, Fire & Blood
Also this:
“Its basic tenet was simple. The Faith of the Seven had been born in the hills of Andalos of old, and had crossed the narrow sea with the Andals. The laws of the Seven, as laid down in sacred text and taught by the septas and septons in obedience to the Father of the Faithful, decreed that brother might not lie with sister, nor father with daughter, nor mother with son, that the fruits of such unions were abominations, loathsome in the eyes of the gods. All this the Exceptionalists affirmed, but with this caveat: the Targaryens were different. Their roots were not in Andalos, but in Valyria of old, where different laws and traditions held sway. A man had only to look at them to know that they were not like other men; their eyes, their hair, their very bearing, all proclaimed their differences. And they flew dragons. They alone of all the men in the world had been given the power to tame those fearsome beasts, once the Doom had come to Valyria.
“One god made us all, Andals and Valyrians and First Men,” Septon Alfyn would proclaim from his litter, “but he did not make us all alike. He made the lion and the aurochs as well, both noble beasts, but certain gifts he gave to one and not the other, and the lion cannot live as an aurochs, nor an aurochs as a lion. For you to bed your sister would be a grievous sin, ser…but you are not the blood of the dragon, no more than I am. What they do is what they have always done, and it is not for us to judge them.”
—A Time of Testing—The Realm Remade - Birth, Death, and Betrayal Under King Jaehaerys I
White supremacists, who?

Hi again! I hope this isn’t too weird of a question, because obviously Taena and Orton Merryweather’s son is really young, but looking in the future do you think his partial Essosi heritage would heavily affect marriage prospects, because of Westerosi bigotry? Or would his (presumably) being the heir to Longtable be enough for some other noble houses to look past their xenophobia? I noticed that Taena seems to take effort to emphasize that she follows the Seven and that her son does too and
(Part 2, my apologies for two parted question!!) how Taena mentions that Russell knows all the Seven and that he’s interested in swords, I’m not sure if I’m misinterpreting but I took this as Taena trying to emphasize that Russell has been raised to be culturally Westerosi, so that he might be viewed less as an other by fellow nobles. Sorry for such a long and poorly worded question! Thank you!
Good question. That there is - or at least can be - Westerosi xenophobia against Essosi individuals, or even Westerosi natives with (recent) Essosi ancestry, is certainly true. Indeed, Taena herself has not been exempt from such othering based on her Myrish background: both Cersei and Sansa associate Taena's foreign birth with exoticism (and eroticism), with Sansa referring to Taena as a "sultry black-eyed Myrish beauty" who "spun so provocatively that every man in the hall was soon watching her" during her own wedding and Cersei, for example, assuming "[y]ou are all whores in the Free Cities, aren't you" when Taena discusses her sexual history (and this of course barely scratches the surface of Cersei's views on Taena being influenced by Westerosi xenophobia). That this prejudice can extend to the children of such marriages, and their own potential spouses, is likewise true, as we see with the Westerlings: despite Jeyne and her siblings having unquestionably Westerosi blue blood on their father's side, Kevan Lannister refused a marriage between Jeyne and one of his twins on the grounds of the "doubtful blood" inherited from their mother, Sybell Spicer, herself the granddaughter of an Essosi woman. (It will be interesting to see, as I have speculated, whether doubts about Larra Rogare's Essosi origins, already the source of tension as related in Fire and Blood Volume 1, will motivate Prince Viserys Targaryen to marry his Aegon to Naerys to reaffirm their Targaryen-ness via an incestuous union.)
So it is possible, I think, that young Russell Merryweather would be subject to xenophobia-related prejudices regarding his future marriage options. Whether he currently experiences any such xenophobia is impossible to say, given that we have never met him or experienced anything of his life at Longtable/the Reach (nor has anyone besides Taena even mentioned her son's existence). Likewise, given our lack of insight into House Merryweather as a family and dynastic power in the Reach, it is similarly impossible to say whether the promise of his lordship would sway otherwise (potentially) prejudiced aristocrats into marriage with him; while the geopolitical situation of Longtable appears potentially advantageous (given the confluence of two rivers there, with all the potential related access to riverrine trade and travel), we have no insight into House Merryweather's strength, wealth, or power. (Indeed, we can't even say how old House Merryweather is - after all, the Merryweathers do not appear in Westerosi history until the reign of Maeor the Cruel.)
Of course, all of this is without guessing what might happen to Russell Merryweather more immediately in the story (considering Russell, at six, is still at least a decade if not more from even the younger side of typical Westerosi (male) aristocratic marriage). Befitting their surname as fairweather friends of Cersei, Taena and Orton have as of the end of AFFC fled the capital - but that move may not guarantee their or their son's safety, given the apocalyptic ambitions of Euron in Oldtown and the raids of ironmen up the Mander (which is to say, perhaps even as far as Longtable) as well as any potential future troop movements in the area (if, say, the new King Aegon VI were to dispatch his likely ally Randyll Tarly to Highgarden to force the Tyrells to surrender to him) ... oh, and you know, the coming invasion of the Others (which I don't think will get as far south as Longtable, but may nevertheless negatively affect southern seats). Russell Merryweather may not even survive another decade to be the subject of Westerosi aristocratic xenophobia regarding his marriage, and if he does, he may find himself becoming an adult in a world massively shaken up, supernaturally and politically, from that of his boyhood - which is to say, one where the old rules of aristocratic Westerosi marriage may no longer be entirely relevant.

who do you think were alicent's ladies in waiting during the dance? it's so odd to me that the queen consort isn't seen with her own entourage of hightower relations and other women currying her favor.
By now I think it's pretty clear GRRM has minimal interest in depicting queen/lady-in-waiting relationships, and that he doesn't really consider that dynamic the way he does the Small Council or Kingsguard.
We also just don't know the names of a ton of ladies during the Dance who weren't aligned with the Blacks, so.
It's a bit hard to speculate, besides maybe some of the ladies who later show up during the Maiden's Day Cattle Show as possible brides for Aegon III. Some of the older ones or their older sisters/cousins could conceivably have been ladies in waiting for Alicent and/or Helaena at some point.
Ladies from the Maiden's Day Cattle Show who either have no age listed or are old enough to have been at least in their early teens during the Dance:
Alyssa Royce
Barba Bolton
Elinor Massey
Henrietta Woodhull
Jeyne Merryweather
Jeyne Mooton
Jeyne Smallwood
Lyra Hayford
Moriah Qorgyle
Patricia Redwyne
Rosamund Darry
Ysabel Staunton
We don't know exactly when Bethany Hightower was born, but she might have been old enough to serve as a lady in waiting to Alicent and/or Helaena. The same goes for Samantha Tarly's sister Sansara. Sharis Footly may also have been a possible lady in waiting to Alicent at one point or another.

Hey thanks for making such a cool blog! I use your post that lists the lgbt characters in asoiaf for reference a lot and was wondering if any characters could be added with the release of Fire and Blood
Thanks so much, I’m glad you enjoy that list! So, cut for F&B spoilers…
First of all there’s Rhaena Targaryen (eldest daughter of Aenys) and her many girlfriends/favorites, including Elissa Farman and Larissa Velaryon. Rhaena and Larissa were both married to men and had children, but I’m not certain that means they’re bisexual rather than lesbian, just that they were in a very regimented culture where marriage and children are not something most highborn women can just opt out of. (Especially a princess like Rhaena.) And Rhaena’s first husband was her beloved brother, her second was a forced marriage, and the third was most definitely only a beard, so I personally think lesbian more likely (with societal comphet).
Princess Saera Targaryen (daughter of Jaehaerys I) taught her “favorites” Alys Turnberry and Perianne Moore how to kiss, and then one day they started kissing while naked (which was “scary but exciting” per Alys), and they “took turns pretending [they] were boys” before eventually inviting Saera’s male favorites (Braxton Beesbury, Roy Connington, Jonah Mooton) into their sexual games. When the scandal eventually broke out, it didn’t end well for anyone in particular alas. (Well, Saera at least was happy, on her own terms.)
Jeyne Arryn, the ruling lady of the Vale during the Dance of the Dragons, was called “the Maiden of the Vale” as she never married. She had a “dear companion”, Jessamyn Redfort, and when she died, it was “wrapped in her arms”.
Laenor Velaryon, and his companions Joffrey Lonmouth and Qarl Correy, are in F&B, but there’s nothing new about them that wasn’t in TWOIAF or the history novellas. Other characters from those stories include Essie and Sylvenna Sand, but nothing new about them besides their deaths, unfortunately. Oh, and there’s Sabitha Vypren, who does a lot more in F&B, but there’s not much new about her sexuality – just a rumor that Alysanne Blackwood was her lover, as they shared a tent while on the march, but Black Aly’s courtship with Cregan Stark does seem to show she preferred men. (And frankly if I were a woman commander of a male army I’d rather share a tent with another woman commander than trust in what might happen or be rumored if I were on my own.) Though I suppose it’s possible Aly was bisexual, we shouldn’t really rule that out.
Rumors were spread about “the three Jeynes”, Jeyne Smallwood, Jeyne Mooton, and Jeyne Merryweather, young noblewomen in King’s Landing to attend the Maiden’s Day Ball of 133 AC (to be a potential bride for Aegon III Targaryen) -- that they “liked to dress in squire’s garb and visit the brothels along the Street of Silk, to kiss and fondle the women there as if the three of them were boys.” Whether these rumors were true or not is unknown.
And last but not least, there’s the rogue Tyroshi pirate Racallio Ryndoon, King of the Stepstones… around whom swirled many rumors, not in the least that he sometimes dressed as a woman and “played the whore”. This may have been a fetish thing rather than transgender identity, though, as he also liked to be beaten by his wives. Still, his enemies often called him “Queen Racallio”, so… um, I think that’s the best we can expect from Gyldayn/GRRM.
Anyway, I think that’s it. Though if anyone notices I’ve missed anyone, please let me know!

Top 5 asoiaf quotes, top 5 ships, top 5 moments that made you wanna cry?
Top 5 ASOIAF Quotes:
“I take no joy in mead nor meat, and song and laughter have become suspicious strangers to me. I am a creature of grief and dust and bitter longings. There is an empty place within me where my heart was once.” - Catelyn VII, ACOK
‘‘“They are children, Sansa thought. They are silly little girls, even Elinor. They’ve never seen a battle, they’ve never seen a man die, they know nothing. Their dreams were full of songs and stories, the way hers had been before Joffrey cut her fathers head off. Sansa pitied them. Sansa envied them.” - Sansa II, ASOS
“For herself, she wanted sleet and ice, howling winds, thunder to shake the very stones of the Red Keep. She wanted a storm to match her rage.” - Cersei II, AFFC
“It is such a long way. I was tired, Jorah. I was weary of war. I wanted to rest, to laugh, to plant trees and see them grow. I am only a young girl.“ - Daenerys X, ADWD
‘‘ “The War of the Ninepenny Kings?” asked Hyle Hunt. “So they called it, though I never saw a king, nor earned a penny. It was a war, though. That it was.” - Brienne V, AFFC
Top 5 Ships:
Jaime/Brienne: The dynamic between these two characters is so brilliant. It’s so interesting to see how they affect each other, and how they play such a big part into each other’s character arc even after they’re separated. I really think this is a ‘’hate to love’’ relationship done almost perfectly. I don’t think it’s perfect though due to the problematic elements to this relationship (mostly linked with the depiction of Cersei’s character vs Brienne’s).
Harry/Sansa: I am perhaps the only person that ships them but that’s okay. Is Harry a dumb jock? Yes he is. Was he rude to her when they first met? Yes. However, because of their following interaction, I really started to appreciate the idea of them together. Harry is one of the few men that tend to be romantically linked with Sansa that legitimately compliments her intelligence, calls her pretty without being creepy about it, laughs at her jokes, actually apologized for being rude and seems to actually treat her like an actual person. Plus, it’s really fun to see Sansa bewilder him. People use him as prop for their favorite problematic ship and act as if he’s such a terrible person but he’s literally just a 17 year old fuckboy.
Cersei/Teana: I don’t think I ever spoken about the love I have for this relationship. I honestly love it when we see the dynamic between the villains in a story and the people they enjoy being with. I get swept away in their joy and pleasure. Most of the characters that interact with Cersei explicitly treat her like an idiot and it can get quite frustrating to read about, so when we have people like Qyburn and Teana (who perhaps is a spy but still) who treat her with more respect, it’s really nice. Plus, that moment after her walk of atonement where Cersei asks if Teana could come back to court actually makes me really sad for some reason.
Catelyn/Eddard: Every time Catelyn talks about their relationship, it breaks my heart. The whole concept of it is really appealing to me. You know, she was betrothed to his attractive extroverted older brother but then he died and she ended up with this more pensive and serious individual whom she didn’t like at first, but time peeled away all the walls that was separating them and they learnt to like each other and what followed was years of trust, love and mutual respect.
Oberyn/Ellaria: This is definitely one of the healthiest relationships in ASOIAF and I kinda wish we gotten more of it. What a particularly like is how Oberyn doesn’t try to monopolize Ellaria’s sexuality. This ‘’open’’ relationship was as much for her as it was for him and you see in the text. All in all, forgetting that aspect of their relationship, they bring in a different energy than most of the canon relationships in this series, and one that I wholeheartedly respect and enjoy.
Top 5 moments that made you wanna cry?
I haven’t actually cried while reading these books but there are numerous moments that made me emotional.
Joffrey Showing Sansa’s Her Father’s Head (Sansa VI, AGOT): There is no chapter that is as heartbreaking to me as that one. I know a lot of people who felt satisfied upon seeing Sansa come to realize that ‘’life is not like a song’’ but for me, it feels really tragic because at the end of the day, Sansa was just a child, who had notions that made sense considering her age, and seeing her forced to reject them so abruptly just makes me really sad. She respected the queen so much yet she comes to realize that the woman considered her to be stupid. She used to romanticize Joffrey and talk about how pretty his lips were but now she sees them as worm-like. She used to believe that the heroes always prevailed and that the monsters lose but then this whole event just breaks that idea apart. Much later, she comes to the conclusion that even though this world isn’t ideal, that there is still a chance that there are still some good things in it, and she’ll do her part in order to spread that goodness, but now her worldview is shattered and she doesn’t know what or who to believe. She even though about killing herself. She’s an 11 year old girl who thought about killing herself! People don’t point out how absolutely tragic that is. Plus, the last line ‘’Sansa was a good girl and always remembered her courtesies.’’ just emotionally kill me.
Joffrey Beating Sansa in Front Of The Court (Sansa III, ACOK): GRRM punishing Sansa for having a certain worldview and doing certain things is absolutely terrible especially because he doesn’t do the same for a lot of the other characters, but that doesn’t make these chapters any less impactful. This chapter is really sad precisely of who Sansa is and what she used to believe. She used to idealize Knights so much, yet as it turned out, none of the kingsguard even said one word as she got beaten and stripped in public. She cares more than most about what other people think of her and she puts a lot of effort to impress so it’s also really saddening to see her humiliated in such a way in front of them. They are legitimately laughing as she gets abused. My heart just goes out to Sansa.
The Red Wedding (Catelyn VII, ASOS): What really hit me about this chapter was everything in relation to Catelyn. It’s how she died thinking that most of her children were dead, how the last thing she saw was her oldest son die in front of her, and see all their efforts burn in flame in front of her. The later reveal that she wasn’t supposed to get killed made it even more crushing. The moment where Robb mutters her name before his death and Catelyn’s last internal monologue before her death are definitely the most harrowing moments of the chapter.
Cersei Doing Her Walk Of Shame (Cersei II, ADWD): I fully empathize with Cersei and all the hardships that she had to face through out her life. Some people are very quick in deciding to not feel bad for her precisely because she is a villainous character, but there’s so much complexity in her character, and in the end, I can’t help but care about what happens to her. This situation is so incredibly horrible for Cersei. Not only did she have to walk naked through the streets of King’s Landing, but people were degrading her body and constantly shaming her for her sexuality. To top all of this , this situation really forced Cersei to think about some of her regrets and fears through out her life. That moment where she tears streamed down her face when she started thinking about the prophecy and then started running and stumbling through out the streets even though she said she wasn’t going to do that hits me every time.
Jeyne’s and Ramsey’s Wedding (The Prince Of Winterfell, ADWD): Theon and Jeyne both had absolutely terrible years leading up to this. Jeyne is a child who was forced into sex slavery, isolated from everyone she knew and loved, with  most of them ending up dead and then was forced into marriage with one of the most atrocious men in Westoros. Theon not only lacked a true home where he could feel safe for most of his life, with no actual father figure, but he had to undergo years of mutilation and psychological torture. To have both of them forced into even more pain by Ramsey is just really depressing to read about. The westorosi system has fucked them over so much and neither deserved this kind of suffering and pain.

La calza della Befana (Hang your stocking for the Hag) ~ will she bring you coal or candies?
Here you can find some sort of list for my most-read posts and my metas, to navigate this blog better if you wish!
But first of all:
STOP THE WAR, WHICHEVER WAR, WHEREVER IT'S FOUGHT. JUST STOP IT!
Metas ~ and relative asks
Keep in mind that some of them easily fit in more than one category but to avoid confusion I've not repeated them unless they were an ask which gave birth to a new category (like in the case of Mirri analysis).
Neutral
This category contains metas (and asks) which are conducted without shipping glasses or with as less favouritism as possible for those characters I like more than others as I try to keep an objective mind over events, characters and foreshadowings.
A juxtaposition of queens
This category contains metas (and asks) about the queens of asoiaf (Cersei, Margaery, Sansa, Daenerys) and it confronts them in several posts (sometimes all of them; sometimes only putting one against the others as they are used as political and moral rivals).
Sansa's defence and love
This category is a self-indulgent, love filled declaration for my favourite character in the whole asoiaf series, Sansa Stark (might not be your cup of tea if you hate her, but might be exactly what you are searching for if you'd like to read some love for our favourite gal without being an apologists of those — very few — mistakes she's made).
Jonsa foreshadowing
This category contains metas and posts and asks about the ship Jon Snow/Sansa Stark and its foreshadowings (thought better meta writers have written entire encyclopaedias about them, who are a treat to read!) throughout the books. Steer clear if you mislike this ship.
Dark Daenerys
This category encapsulates the foreshadowings and the proofs, in my opinion, of the dark Daenerys theory and of how her character is not as good and pious as the POV trap would have us believe.
Character analysis (asks and on my own)
A category filled with analysis (on my own or sparked by some asks) about the characters of the world of asoiaf. It contains also the sub-series Women of “A song of Ice and Fire” which focuses on less studied and cared for female characters of the world of asoiaf (some of them are still to be written and can be found in the “cooking in the pot” category down below) though for now we have Mirri Maz Duur, Lollys Stockeworth and Tysha Silverfist and Shella Whent and how they are linked to some main characters from the serie.
RS: characters back from the dead
A series analysing the characters of asoiaf who have been resurrected outright and those have been resurrected in a much subtle way and those who apparently are resurrected but actually might not be.
Cooking in the pot...
Sansa' empathy and courage (book canon) a series in two or three parts (still to be defined) about Sansa' empathy and courage.
Overlooked and interesting women of thrones (book canon) a series of posts and character analysis about the overlooked women of asoiaf (Mirri Maz Duur is the first of them, here; we'll be covering Lady Merryweather, Ellaria Sand and how dirty they played her in the show, Eroeh and Hazzea why Daenerys is forgetting them, Irri and Jihqui and Missandei, Myranda Royce & Mya Stone replacements for Jeyne Poole?, I might do a meta about Jeyne P. but I might wait a little bit to see if Winds gets published, Jeyne Westerling and her tragic love for Robb; and many more to come — also requested)
Arya and Samael, venom of (the) God(s) — if Azōr Ahaī is not a dark hero, or if he has a double face like Samael/Lucifer both faces of the same person but core different, spurned by the series of metas about the dark Azōr Ahaī and Daenerys biblical parallels.
Azōr Ahaī, different figures inspired by the same story?, what we know of him and the various legends born maybe of the same person and his/her legend (the last hero, the woman with the monkey tail, etcetera) why the differences might mean something for the ending.
Sansa' method of ruling (book and show canon) what she has learned and how it influences her ruling style; titled If I ever am queen, I'll make them love me.
How the Daenerys' upbringing has led her to be THE dragon (book and show canon), why her trauma explains her behaviour and may make us feel sympathy for the girl who wanted the house with the big, red door; but how it doesn't justify her actions, titled Why do the Gods make kings and queens?, dragons plant no trees.
Cersei Lannister vs Sansa Stark (book canon), their relationship and an analysis of their different mindset and ruling style (internalised misogyny vs feminism, privileged but hateful vs privileged but loving — fear vs love), titled Lions and Little doves (the dove is a sacred, holy symbol in the Bible, btw)
The Italian commedia dell'arte metas, a series of metas hinging on Sansa Stark and Jon Snow as their imo commedia dell'arte counterparts; a series composed (for now) of three parts (I might add to it): Sansa and La Colombina (Little Dove) a meta about the character of the Colombina, one of the most beloved characters of the Venice carnival; Jon Snow and Harlequin & Pierrot two heroes combined together to make Jon Snow, the romantic hero/fool and the somber, melancholic hero; Sansa Stark and Jon Snow, la Colombina and Arlecchino & Pierrot the loyal/disloyal servants (of their people interests) and romantic heroes.

What if Prince Duncan Targaryen had broken his betrothal to lord Baratheons daughter in order to marry a Westerosi or Essosi woman of noble birth instead of a commoner and would he still have been pressured to abdicate?
As a matter of clarification, it does not appear that Duncan Targaryen was pressured to abdicate. Quite the opposite, in fact: Aegon V "did all he could to have the marriage undone, demanding that Duncan put Jenny aside" and "the High Septon, Grand Maester, and small council joined together to insist King Aegon force his son to choose between the Iron Throne and this wild woman of the woods". Rather than being pressured to abdicate, it sounds like Prince Duncan was pressured to give up Jenny and declare that he had never really, validly married her.
In any event, I think that the answer depends a great deal on both the woman in question and the personality of Lyonel Baratheon. A significant part of the scandal with Duncan's marriage to Jenny was that she was not just not his betrothed, but a member of the smallfolk, mocked even by her neighbors as "some half-mad peasant girl, and perhaps even a witch"; by marrying her, Duncan was sending the unspoken message that he found such a peasant girl better than a Baratheon, as aristocratic a family as Westeros can offer. That specific message-sending would not be the case, obviously, if Duncan married an aristocrat (though not necessarily as much for an Essosi woman as a Westerosi - more on that in a moment), although there are of course degrees among the Westerosi aristocracy. This is a point I made about a speculative marriage between Jeyne Poole and Bran or Rickon, and it's the point Catelyn makes to Robb about his marriage to Jeyne (which Robb tries to rebuff): such a bride might have the right to a sigil and to be ranked among the nobility, but that does not mean that any noble male - much less, in this case, a prince and heir to the Iron Throne - would necessarily be open to marriage with her, nor that a bluer-blood family would not find such a marriage an insult. So Duncan marrying, say, an Erenford of Erenford, bannermen to the "only" 600-year-old House Frey, could I think be looked on quite differently than Duncan marrying, say, Alys Arryn of the Eyrie. (Which is not to say that sufficiently high rank would automatically cover the scandal either: after all, Aegon V "had to deal with the wounded pride and anger of the noble houses ... affronted" by the secret marriage of his children Jaehaerys and Shaera - obviously both royals themselves - because "Jaehaerys had been betrothed to Celia Tully, daughter of the Lord of Riverrun, and Shaera to Luthor Tyrell, the heir to Highgarden".)
Now, as I noted, this calculus would likely be considerably different for an Essosi noblewoman as compared to a Westerosi. While Essos certainly has its own aristocrats, some of much older lineages than those in Westeros, Essosi women can in turn face significant xenophobia in coming to Westeros. Look at Larra Rogare: Westerosi suspicion of her and her family's foreignness played a key role in motivating the violent reaction against her and her brothers, and she had very nearly been arrested and killed solely to replace her with a "proper" Westerosi wife for Prince Viserys. Look at Serala Darklyn, still reviled despite her agonizing (and specifically sexual) punishment during the Defiance of Duskendale, still negatively compared to hypothetical Westerosi brides who of course would never have "filled her husband's ear with Myrish poison" so that he "rose against his king and took him captive". Look at Taena Merryweather, constantly exoticized and sexualized for her foreign origins (not the least of which being Cersei raping her). So I think Lyonel Baratheon would still have been deeply insulted had Duncan married an Esssoi noblewoman instead of his Baratheon betrothed - a foreigner, daughter of some Essosi cheesemonger or coin clinker, considered better than his own, eminently aristocratic, perfectly Westerosi daughter?
Likewise, it is unclear what exactly motivated Lyonel to rise in rebellion, outside of the thin descriptions given in TWOIAF. The extent to which we are meant to see Lyonel's rebellion as a sort of prefigurement of Robert's Rebellion - a fiery, commanding Baratheon Lord of Storm's End being deprived of a marriage for his family by a Targaryen crown prince and then raising a rebellion against the crown - is at this point speculative (and there are obviously many differences between Lyonel's rebellion and Robert's). However, just as Robert's Rebellion was kicked off by both the immediate tyranny of Aerys II and, I think, the long-simmering concerns of the aristocratic southron ambitions bloc, so it might have been that Lyonel Baratheon had more motivations beyond the mere broken betrothal to declare himself the new Storm King. (A comparison might also be drawn to Walder Frey, who was looking to get out of his support for Robb even before he found out about Robb's secret marriage to Jeyne Westerling.) What, I certainly can't say - after all, Yandel says that Lyonel "had always been amongst King Aegon's most leal supporters" - but it's at least worth considering.
