As many of you know, I've been working on creating a masterlist of LGBTQIA+ books where you can filter by genre, representation, relationship, target age group, and more.
❤️ Several of the books on this list are self-published or do not get a lot of recognition, so I thought, what better way to share than use a random number generator to grab 3 books at a time and share them with all of you!
💛 For right now I am focusing on the first in a series or books that can be read as standalones. I also try to skip over any that might be blatantly harmful.
💚 So what do you think? Think you will be adding any of these books to your TBR?
📖 The Unintentional Time Traveler: ?/5⭐(Unread) 📖 Kinship and Kindness: ?/5⭐(Unread) 📖 Higher: ?/5⭐ (Unread)
💜 DISCLAIMER: I have not read all of these books so I cannot attest to their quality or the issues that may arise in them. I have tried to note which I have or have not read. It is also highly recommended that readers check trigger warnings to decide if a book is right for them.

Posted @withregram • @streickercenter In 2021, Dr. Dara Horn published “People Love Dead Jews: Reports from a Haunted Present.” Two years later, people have felt like they were seeing the title of her book, unfortunately, coming to life before their eyes.
When the award-winning author stopped by the #StreickerCenter to speak on our “Jewish Challenges, Jewish Solutions in the Wake of the Unthinkable” panel, we asked her what she would like to say to people who didn’t fully believe her warnings before October 7th. Here’s what she had to say about the impact of her book in today’s world.

Description: photo of @gumbolimboinexile sitting at the dining table wearing a chunky off-white cable-knit sweater and sitting in their red manual wheelchair, using a laptop. On the table are a bowl of tangerines, a bunch of bananas, a ceramic teapot, and a copy of Klein’s Guide to Jewish Religious Practice. A side table holds three Chanukah menorahs and a pair of antique silver shabbat candlesticks in front of a glass door. The scene is lit with moody tones, but outside the window a concrete porch and the river below are bright white with snow. Read something Jewish every day. Do something Jewish every day. Show up to each day as a Jew and end each day as a Jew. These are my daily mantras right now. . . So today, as I make my Halloween pumpkin pie and drink my coffee, I am reading these two books in a round (with some homework), one to keep me alert and one to keep me hopeful. . . #jewish #judaism #semitism #jonathanweisman #myjewishyear #abigailpogrebin #jewishbooks #books #read #reading #readersofinstagram #bookstagram (at Oak Grove, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/BpmzAwNHhV6/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=fkpsisn3kwi7

Attempting to break the agonizing impasse between Israelis and Palestinians, #YossiKleinHalevi, the Israeli commentator and award-winning author of #LikeDreamers directly addresses his Palestinian neighbors in this taut and provocative book, empathizing with Palestinian suffering and longing for reconciliation as he explores how the conflict looks through Israeli eyes. If you're a fan of the classic "Caps For Sale", you're absolutely going to love "Yossi and the Monkeys: A Shavuot Story" (2017) by Jennifer Tzivia MacLeod, illustrated by Shirley Waisman, our final book for Shavuot, the Jewish holiday that starts tonight! Yossi, a caring husband and father, is very upset that he is too poor to provide his family the means to celebrate Shavuot with traditional foods, etc. His wife, a talented craftswoman, suggests that he sell some of the beautiful kippahs (skullcaps worn mostly by religiously observant Jewish men) that she makes to raise money for the family. But when Yossi runs into a mischievous monkey on his way to sell his wares, nothing goes exactly according to plan... A wonderfully playful holiday story! 🐒 🐒 🐒 #noodlenutsclassickidlit #yossiandthemonkey #AShavuotStory #JenniferTziviaMacLeod #ShirleyWaisman #JewishNoodlenuts #Shavuos #Shavuot #CapsForSale #JewishBooks #JewishKids #JewishFamily #HolidayBooks #Holiday #JewishHoliday #LearningAtHome #LearningCultures #inclusion #inclusionmatters #childrensbooks #EarlyLearning #TeacherIdeas https://www.instagram.com/p/CAyDFJTnYNR/?igshid=1xean9l0mb5ut

American Jewish Thought Since 1934: Writings on Identity, Engagement, and Belief by Michael Marmur, David Ellenson
What is the role of Judaism and Jewish existence in America? And what role does America play in matters Jewish? This anthology considers these questions and offers a look at how the diverse body of Jewish thought developed within the historical and intellectual context of America.
In this volume, editors Michael Marmur and David Ellenson bring together the distinctive voices of those who have shaped the bold and shifting soundscape of American Jewish thought over the last few generations. The contributors tackle an array of topics including theological questions; loyalty and belonging; the significance of halakhic, spiritual, and ritual practice; secularization and its discontents; and the creative recasting of Jewish peoplehood. The editors are careful to point out how a plurality of approaches emerged in response to the fundamental ruptures and challenges of continuity posed by the Holocaust, the establishment of the state of Israel, and the civil rights movement in the twentieth century.
This volume also includes a wide swath of the most distinctive currents and movements over the last eighty years: post-Holocaust theology, secular forms of Jewish spirituality, ultra-orthodoxy, American neo-orthodoxy, neo-Hasidism, feminism and queer theory, diasporist critiques of Zionism, and Zionist militancy. This collection will serve as both a testament to the creativity of American Jewish thought so far, and as an inspiration for the new thinkers of its still unwritten future.

😍 & 💡, please? 💕💕
Thanks Tini for sending me a reader ask 💕
Okay so let's see ~
😍 "What is your favorite fic trope?"
I'm not sure if it's a trope per se, but the fics I've seemed to have enjoyed the most over the last almost two years have revolved around characters growing as people, communicating and healing, and basically knowing they got someone at their side (romantic or platonic) and just blossoming into their own in safe spaces and healthy relationships. So you know, basically what I like to write as well lol.
I do seem to be a sucker for mutual pining, slow builds, epic love declarations and even though explicit content is my jam - I do love an underlying current of tenderness as well (so pwf). But yeah, basically anything where people feel safe to communicate their needs and shine from encouragement 💕
And
💡 "Tell me a headcannon (and who you would wish to write it)?"
Mannnn, this took me forever to narrow even a smidge because there's a few I've had that I've already written myself now, or have stumbled across - so finding something that hasn't been tackled already was hard! Or at least I haven't seen the below (if you or anyone else has, feel free to send them my way please!)
But!! I thought of two things that I think would be interesting to explore:
Yusuf, Nicolo, Sebastien and Nile were all soldiers who died in a country they were not born in (that's as "simple" as I can make it without going into comic and movie canon and that's a whole 'nother post lol) . . . But was that the same case for Andromache, Lykon and Quỳnh? I know in the comic version it mentions a bit for Andy about being sent off to fight, so yeah anyways, I have this slight fancanon if you will where I wonder: were all the immortals soldiers chosen, at least in part, because they were trained to fight - and in part because they were the ones who could shed the very biases that had led them to their deaths (without appearing to be victim blaming since it's far more complex than that).
Unfortunately I doubt I would ever write it personally, because my own father being a wounded vet would probably just bring up some things for me on a personal level. To be honest I'm not sure if I can imagine anyone wanting to tackle such a hard subject - but if anyone stumbles on this and wants to, my DMs are open and I'm happy to plot and encourage in any way that I can 🤗
The second idea involves religion. Though I personally lean a smidge more towards Sebastien being a French Catholic, I think the JewishBooker HCs are really great and it's made me itch for a fic where all three male members of the team represent a branch of the Abrahamic faith tree: Jewish, Christian and Muslim. Add in Andy's line of her saying how she was worshipped as a god, and then you got this female, matriarchal Goddess figure older than the three male figures and yeah, without going on a tangent lol, there's just a lot of interesting dynamics/themes to explore under that context where I believe humility and education can lead to a deepening of faith and greater respect between all 🙏🏻
Once again though, I doubt it would be something that would appeal to basically anyone but some theology majors or students of theology like myself lol. Honestly if something like this was written, I would love to see it as a collab between a practicing member of each faith group - and I'm not sure if there's a Christian, Jew, Muslim, and Wiccan/NeoPagan who would all like to co write something like this for only me to squeal over it lol.
Thanks again for the questions Tini, you picked some amazing ones for me to reflect on 🤗

So we’ve determined that we don’t just want to read Jewish books about the Holocaust. But we also acknowledge that it is an important part of our history. We’ve also all probably read The Diary of Anne Frank at some point in our lives. Even if you haven’t read it, I’m pretty positive you’ve heard of it - so I’m not going to explain it here!
But, did you know that there is a beautiful new graphic novel adaptation out, published earlier this year? The images, by artist David Polonsky, allow the reader to see parts of Anne Frank’s story that weren’t captured in the text of her diary. Or, in some cases, the images expand upon ideas that she didn’t explicitly write about. For example, one page illustrates Anne’s dream wedding day with the boy she had a crush on. This book is a way to revisit, or read for the first time, the important story of Anne Frank. Here’s a good review of the graphic novel from Bustle, in case you’re interested in more info!
