Honestly guys, the German Romantics were such a crazy group of people, I love them so much, the anecdotes are everything!
Schiller getting into a personal war with the Schlegels and telling August Schlegel he wouldn’t publish him anymore in his magazine? Goethe like a middleman in between, moving back and forth and trying to make them friends again? Goethe saying to Schlegel: Dude, just write a poem, I‘ll give it to Friedrich and we‘ll see how it turns out. Goethe reading the poem to this stubborn drama queen Schiller and basically writing a thank-you-letter to Schlegel while meaningfully suggesting the phrasing to Schiller like: Thank you so much for the poem, August, weeeee liked it veeeeery much! Like I need a TV show of this
