kisame and itachi are so. like itachi is a weirdo with no friends and kisame is a lonely dude who doesnt believe in friendship and yet they dont talk to each other as coworkers like they do with other akatsuki members, theyre so normal?? with each other i think they see each other as equals in the way only they could

so what happens when you put two bootlicking rule following brainwashed top of the class super soldiers who recently had a nervous breakdown about their role in society together on a team for terrorists? the most tender hand holding of all time. the most tragic vulnerability. the most timid notion of love while they know the other will die before they ever can enjoy it.

and maybe sexual intimacy as a form of self harm because one of them is used to using his strength as a punishing tool and one of them thinks he deserve to be punished while he waits until he dies.

i think at 17 after Itachi learns what romance and sex is he starts analyzing his physical and emotional reaction towards other people. after the confrontation in konoha in the failed kidnap mission kisame wouldve made some joke about running into itachis exes and then itachi says super deadpanned "i used to have a crush on kakashi" and kisame goes well that makes sense youre the two prettiest people in the village and then itachi like every teenage girl thinks too hard about that compliment and devises a strategic plan of action to receive more compliments for no particular reason.

kisame and itachi are truly quality time and acts of service lovers, and their affection for each other grows from them naturally doing things. moments of silence arent weird, itachi will always look out to whatever kisame has pointed out in the horizon, kisame will eat anything itachi cooks even if its burnt since the taste doesnt matter the act does, they both get annoyed at the same things and find the same people stupid which amplifies their "youre the only person i want to be around" feelings

because itachi is a sickly waif hes always cold and kisame doesn't generate as much heat as one would think which means they both like being in warm places and they will spend more time than necessary in hot springs or in the valley during summertime so they can bask in the sun

kisame doesn't like soft things like i said in my other post, but he does like silk and itachi's hair is perfectly silky to run fingers through

so Itachi and Kisame's names can kinda match

Like most characters outside Kiri, Itachi's name is written with katakana rather than kanji for weasel 鼬. But in Japanese, tiger sharks are called weasel sharks - itachizame (鼬鮫), with the first kanji from the meaning of Itachi's name and the second from Kisame's. While they're from a different family, another kind of tiger shark comes up in their meeting, as the description of shark pups devouring each other in the womb matches the otherwise docile sand tiger sharks.

And then there's Kisame's given name. While the kanji used are for demon shark, using different kanji, 樹雨 'kisame' is a noun. It's used for when fog settles around tree leaves and falls like rain. So a Mist Ninja finding their place alongside Leaf Ninja through the Rain Village/Akatsuki is literally summed up in his name

While being the only team to share ring placement and nail polish colour, the kanji on them, Vermilion and South, also match. Many of the Akatsuki rings are connected to heavenly beings in some way, but Itachi's, Konan's, and Deidara's are part of a set of Four Auspicious beasts - The Vermilion Bird, the White Tiger, and the Azure Dragon. They're all linked to different elements/weather/etc, tying the two of them together, as the Vermilion Bird is the deity of the south. Each of the symbols also has different phases of the moon connected to them, called mansions; one of them for the Vermilion Bird is 鬼, the first kanji in Kisame's name. And the main occurrence of the south kanji in the series is the Uchiha's Naka Shrine and Naka River; 'The Shrine/River of Southern Joy'. Itachi's Mangekyo Sharingan activates at the river, the tablet describing Infinite Tsukuyomi is in the shrine, and they meet by a seaside shrine.

#Naruto #Itachi Uchiha #Kisame Hoshigaki #Kisaita #itakisa #not really but we know how i feel about them #this is right before he wrecks kakashi #i dont remember the exact sequence but whatever #I'm very curious of Itachi's hostility toward kakashi specifically #you could make the argument that he's just doing his evil villain act #but god DAMN #did you have to crucify him #he puts his own ass in a sling too but overusing his sharingan #itachi says I don't care if I die #as long as I kill you in the process #I like to think itachi bears animosity toward the leaf kakashi the rest of his superiors his family really everyone #because he was forced to choose between two very unattractive options when he was just a kid #not just that but he was expected to take full responsibility for his decision and bear whatever consequence came about #of course an adult could understand that the uchiha needed to right their position of inequity in the leaf #but itachi as a literal child and a child of war could not hold those stakes in his mind and think of anything but disaster #an inevitable war that would be his fault #he couldn't think of anything more awful than that even murdering every member of his clan and his own family #ANYWAY #what im trying to say is I think he would grow up as a rogue ninja and realize how fucked up and unfair it was that he was put up to that #and how he was groomed by a bunch of adults to be a killing machine just bc he happened to be an excellent shinobi #in this case #kakashi is the unfortunate object of his wrath #a very good representation of everything he was a victim of as far as itachi knows him #his superior in the anbu and someone who was willing to conduct surveillance of the Uchiha whether or not he knew what would happen to them #an indifferent bystander. one more person who didn't help itachi (kakashi probably would've had he had the whole picture)
