good: have been drawing a lot in my sketchbook lately, mostly with pencil. do you know how awesome it is to have a sharpener on hand immediately too. making smooth gem-ish shading is very fun and time consuming too, so its a nice way to distract myself. i need to get back into my pixel projects as well- i forgot that aseprite is still technically a steam game so my friend asked me why i have 6000 hours in it (i keep basically all art programs open to have them on hand fast). i want to get watercolor markers or something to make funny things more. i used to draw a lot back in school of course because it was easier than doing the actual work i guess- now i have some block about drawing traditionally where i forget it for a long while and also need to be in a very specific spot for it to be enjoyable (in this case thecorner of the living room couch). ill figure out how to use the scanner by myself at some point
bad: toenail is starting to hurt again, swelling, had a rough time yesterday with my heart blasting in spite of Actually No Anxiety for once and not even having a huge meals, just snacking until dinner (by which point i had weakened considerably but even before that when i had eaten it was like techno in there.) i still have yet to get the long ecg or whatever it is, though i do have a random app with the doctor on the 27th so maybe i can ask for a referral that isnt over an hour away from where i live. the gums of a tooth in the back of my mouth was hurting for a while but seems fine now, wasnt sure what i was gonna do about that so thats good. can go back to brushing normal now. still havent gotten lab orders.
the cats were grooming eachother on the couch a second ago and now theyre getting feisty and bitey and silly so i cant really stay depressed. dreams have been weirdly vivid as of late for better and for worse, even just during naps. makes it even more exhausting. for the past 3 weeks or so ive had a consistent thought whenever ive been stressed of "i need to go curl up in a dirt hole somewhere else", which while not good isnt the worst thing to think at least

Lance is the only fictional character that makes me officially simp for a fictional character! I have loved many characters throughout my life and none of them really stuck with me for years. Lots of them come and go while some are just seasons or just a few months. But Lance... He did not go away, he remains. Not a single day where I don't think about him at all, and even if I don't think about him much, he is still there as dust.
Lance has become my comfort character, too, during my artist crisis, and he makes me the artist I am now. He gets me out of my comfort zone often since I don't believe I would EVER draw a muscular man (since I'm not fond of them), but Lance changes that. I also don't think I could do another OC x Canon much until Ziana came. If it wasn't for Lance, I don't think I would ever enjoy drawing my OCs again as I have in the past... (believe me, I used to love drawing my OCs, but when I changed into 'Nimilla'Arts, I never wanted to draw my OCs again due to my past self...) and Lance gave me that confidence again. He made me happy to draw Ziana, and back to being an OC x Canon artist :) (even if it's... cringe...)
I don't know what Lance has on me, but I really love him and I don't think I'll be changing my love for him with the fact that I have simped for two years straight! Every day, I think about him 🥰
He is always my number one fictional hubby! 💍
I love my pink-haired pixel hubby very much...

Little frogs and ants are playing a game

Pixel art for today based on videogame Kero Kero Keroppi no Daibouken for game console Nes. I know nothing about this game. Bu it looks very cute! Such a little animals! And weather is so summer in this game! It is thing I need! I guess, it is very good and kind and funny little game!
And this is my drawing about the same theme. Little frogs and little ants are playing in some funny and kind game. They are living in a place where every time it is summer. They everyday have a good mood. They everyday go for a little roads. And play a different games. They can build a new little roads. From anthill to swamp and river. In a forest and a field  - ants are living. And in swamp and in river – frogs are living. And they can build new little roads here and there. And rebuild old roads. And walk by them. And to find something interesting. And faraway – there is some castle. Maybe it is good to explore it too. But it is far away above the horizon.
It is interesting what a game it is for frogs and ants for today? Yesterday, ant was searching frogs. And today, I guess, it is opposite, frog is searching for ants. But they can runaway from you. You make a move – And all of them are making  moves too. They give their best to runaway from you.

And after it will be a break. And everyone will go to a rabbit to drink a tea. And also, it is possible to ask about a castle that so far away. What is it there. Maybe rabbit knows. Or some other little animals can know. Maybe mole knows? Maybe hedgehog knows? Or mices know everything? Rat adventurer, that’s for sure, can to know. It is main not to forget to ask a question. And so many things for everyday. And all the time to forget something. And everyday starts with interesting question - what is a castle out there. But all the time to forget to ask. Today it is, that’s for sure, It is good to ask.
And now - we have a game here! Funny and kind good game! Let’s play! Little frogs and ants are playing a game! And at the evening everyone will go for their own things to do. First – it is good to play! And later to do all the things! Here everyone is doing this way! And it will be a sunny day again! Every day – it is a good summer day!

happy 2024! i meant to post this yesterday but with how chaotic the move was that ended up falling through
this year was particularly rough for me. a shoulder injury at the start of the year had me out of commission for the first few months, and then compounding stress throughout the year led to artblock and a general lack of drive to do anything.
still, i did a lot! may was when i started doing a lot of pixel art, and this year i finished editing 3 huge spritesheets for comic purposes. i started animating again in the summer and had a blast with it, and i've been drawing with my trackpad at the end of the year. there were a couple months where i didn't have much to show and felt discouraged looking back on it, but i was still able to find things i was proud of even if they didn't live up to my expectations. plus this year has two of my favorite things i've drawn (january and july)!
i don't have my tablet set up in my new place yet, and i'm still dealing with the eternal struggle that is my shoulder, but i'm looking forward to what i might be able to do this year. bring it on 2024!

I. SEALED CHAMBER | Music by Error Sparrow (Vapor) | Digital Art by DarthButcher
Musician Notes: Sealed Chamber is an instrumental ode to the legendary Pokemon of the Gen III pokemon games (Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald), specifically Regirock, Regice and Registeel. It's an ambient, dungeon synth-kinda track meant to capture the mystique of the elaborate quest through Hoenn's secret areas - undersea, underground and elsewhere - that the player undertakes to find all three Regis. The instrumentation is 100% Pokemon RSE soundfont (with some effects and such thrown in).
Artist Notes: Digital watercolor and ink pen using Adobe Fresco on iPad. May has heard the legend of three bionic beasts and finally thinks she has come upon the cave of legend. She has searched far and wide across Hoenn to try to find the entrance and after a series of trials, her quest may prove fruitful. What she doesn’t know is that while she searches for them, they stand alert to her presence ready to pounce when the moment is right. Stylized with inspiration from Ken Sugimori for a watercolor aesthetic, my first time working with the medium.
II. FUCHSIA ZONE | Music by ZeroJanitor | GBA 2D+3D Gif by Aaron (AReallyFrog)
Musician Notes: Inspired by the translucent pink Game Boy Advance model, officially known as the Fuchsia model. Instrument samples are taken from Sonic Advance 3, and the voice samples are from the LingoJam robot voice generator.
Artist Notes: I created this little animation by exporting the frames from Blender, drawing over them in Aseprite, and then exporting them as a gif. I think the gif struggles a little but I’m happy to have gotten to try combining 2d and 3d animation!
If you’re interested in homebrew games for the gameboy family there are a few collections of roms (.gb/.gbc/.gba) on my itch page I try to keep up to date.
III. WHEN THE LEVEE REMAKES | Music by Joey Puricelli (CaptHayfever) | Watercolor + Cross-Stitch Mixed Media by nyankat
Musician Notes: Arr. for voice, jaw harp (x2), shaker, wood handles, bongos, drumkit, & Casio PK-5.
I had the opening lines of the first verse looping in my head for weeks before I finally had time to hash out the rest of it. There really were a metric buttload of remakes on this system; this song cites 38 (though maybe I’m cheating to include Game & Watch Gallery) & that’s just where I stopped researching because I thought I had too much. My nickname for Kirby in verse 3 came from the American NiD commercials, which for some reason used the theme song to the 1960s spy show Danger Man.
Artist Notes: Watercolor on paper and Aida cloth, cross-stitch. As soon as Joey laid out his idea I was inspired to do a mixed-media piece. This is basically a reimagining of the old Pokemon Kanto intro screen, in a forest clearing, with one side cross-stitch/“low res” and the other watercolor/“high res.” I asked Joey what else he might end up referencing besides Pokemon and went from there. (I presented him with a word map before starting the actual design; this piece was an absolute boatload of work. But I’m pleased to say I captured his intended vibe on the first try!) The full piece depicts Nidorino, Kirby, Piranha Plant, and Samus (low res) vs. Gengar, Meta Knight, Baby Mario on Yoshi, and a Metroid (high res). Let me tell ya, stitching on Aida that you’ve already painted is very difficult! But it made for a really cool effect. Thank you for the collaboration (and your patience lol), Joey!
IV. MY INTERNAL BATTERY HAS RUN DRY | Music by Leo ArcanaXIX | Photography by DarthButcher
Musician Notes: My concept for this was to sample sounds from doing a GBA cartridge internal battery surgery and use those sounds as instruments. I took inspiration for the form of the song itself from "Clockwork" from Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, a GBA game with both an internal battery and a banger soundtrack.
Artist Notes: Shot on a Sony a7IV, Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN, 70mm, 1/40s, f/7.1, ISO 1000. Nothing says cartridge repair more than actually dismantling a cartridge and beginning to conduct surgery. Utilizing photography with a strong key light, contrast of the system on one side and additional cartridges behind it, and some mild post-production to bring out the colors, this piece tells a story of frustration that a beloved game may have seen its last days.
V. LIQUID CRYSTAL | Music by Revolver Project | Digital Art by Marcus Bower (SpriteDude)
Musician Notes: This song began with the intent to write a dark-step inspired drum & bass track using the Game Boy Advance internal synthesis. I set out researching the best homebrew Tracker/DAW for the console, and discovered that my ancient flash cartridge wasn't fully compatible with the majority of them. As a solution, I used a branch of LSDJ which maintained compatibility with the GoombaGB wrapper for GBA.
I opted for a harsh and bright industrial guitar style to compliment the harsh synth and percussion sampling of the GBA, which may sound familiar to older Revolver Project fans. All of the percussion and the majority of the synths were originally voiced using the GBA's internal synth and sample abilities. They were then heavily edited on a PC DAW, into the final sounds you hear. Notable exceptions include some bass sounds, which were created using a semi-modular Behringer Neutron.
I hope after listening to this, you'll be inspired to fire up a GBA and play your favorite Metroid or maybe a racer. Just remember to turn a light on if you're playing on an original model, don't let that LCD stay dark. ☻
Artist Notes: AI was pretty much the perfect match for me, as we’ve worked together many times in the past and we always seem to be on the same wavelength. In fact, he suggested “neon lights and cyberpunk” for the theme of the piece after I had already started drawing just that. Other than that, it’s pretty much just a fast-paced super-foreshortened actiony sci-fi piece. The guy is just a random cyberpunk dude I made up, and the drones are supposed to kinda look like metroids.
VI. ADVENTURE'S END | Music by Monstrman | Acrylic Art by nyankat
Musician Notes: I wanted to make a song that really captured the finality of finishing a game on the GBA. In reality it’s more about the experience of completing all your games in general, but since it’s GBA themed I added some flavor. The intro/outro was written on my guitar first, then I made the rest in my DAW.
Artist Notes: Acrylic on canvas, 8 in. x 8 in. I listened to a very early draft of Tim’s piece, which reminded me of the ending screen of Mega Man 2, where he walks away through different landscapes. This evolved into the piece it is now, with a person facing away from the viewer with a guitar over his back, next to a GBA set on a table and showing the message “Thank you!” I’m not particularly strong in figure drawing, so I asked Tim to pose as a reference, and I think that turned out quite well. I also asked him if he wanted the GBA or the curtains a specific color: The GBA is silver like the one he had growing up, and the curtains are OG GBA blurple. Thank you for the collaboration, Tim!

Acclaimed 00s Visual Novels Never 7 and Ever 17 are getting Confirmed Remakes

In a recent interview with Dengeki, Makoto Asada, the director of MAGES (a prominent VN company) confirmed Never 7 and Ever 17 remakes are currently in process. A translator at Noisy Pixel translated pieces of the interview related to the remakes in an article here. According to this article, a staff member at MAGES asked Asada for permission to work on a remake of the Infinity Series (specifically the first two), and when he was told yes, started on gathering the old assets from the original games. From there, they looked at fan response to the Xbox 360 release of Ever 17 and decided to hopefully stick with 2D art, rather than 3D models. Asada also confirmed he has reached out to staff members who worked on the original games, likely to keep the games true to their original roots. More details will supposedly come in the future, and the new games will have a focus on both maintaining the original mechanics, while still making them easier to play on modern systems. A remake of Remember 11, or any of the offshoots of the series like 12Riven and Code_18 were not discussed or confirmed.

However, when news about the remakes was tweeted yesterday (2/27/23), Kotaro Uchikoshi, the original writer of the Infinity Series, now known for Zero Escape and AI: The Somnium Files, publicly stated that he had nothing to do with the remakes and that he had not been contacted by MAGES.

More Info on the Infinity Series and my personal views under the cut
The Infinity Series was a series of visual novels developed by the defunct VN company KID, and written by Kotaro Uchikoshi. The series’ first entry, Never 7, was released in 2000.
The Infinity series is heralded as an incredibly influential and well made VN series, with its characters, BGM, and plot being widely commended. Each game takes place in a different story with wildly different settings, however they all center around themes of time loops and time travel, the morphogenetic field, and supernatural events. If you enjoy visual novels at all, I strongly recommend them! I’m particularly partial to the first three games.
In regards to my personal views on the topic, I seem to be in the minority by being excited. I’m of course disappointed that Uchikoshi is not involved in the production, but I have some hope from the fact that MAGES seems to have a heavy emphasis on maintaining the games’ stories and vibes. If anything, I just hope it’s a chance for more people to learn about the series. I’ll stay positive, at least until we get more news on the subject.

It's the second season of the dang GameTap episodes of Space Ghost Coast to Coast, and the second of two posts covering them on this dang blog. I have very special thoughts about these, so please! pour over every word. Read this out loud to a loved one if needed.

Space Ghost Coast to Coast #98: "Richard" | September 11, 2007 | S09E01
In this episode: Moltar discusses Linda, solidifying her into the canon of Space Ghost. I will not rest until she gets her first onscreen appearance on HBOMax’s Jellystone. In the cold open they joke about Moltar being whipped. Space Ghost proclaims to be the Earl of Peppercorn, which is pretty wacky. Moltar is self-conscious about having a huge head. And other garbage.

Space Ghost Coast to Coast #99: "Stephen" | October 31, 2007 | S09E02
Okay, so Yar is back in this one, and he doesn’t actually sound like the one guy I said from yesterday’s post, I fucked up. He also is clearly drawn in a pixel art style, which I didn’t realize because of the questionable provenance of the video files I’m watching. He’s sorta the Bubba Duck of this show (readers! Bubba Duck was introduced late into Ducktales’ run, and those episodes are largely considered [by whom?] to be inferior to the ones that came before them!).
There’s a non-verbal (like Val Kilmer aww) appearance from the Council of Doom. This one is abysmal. They really chopped up the interview to make it sound nonsensical, and I personally consider this to be cheating at making Space Ghost. Worse than having your main character follow an ant around for 11 minutes (Which I like!!!).

Space Ghost Coast to Coast #100: "David" | November 11, 2007 | S09E03
Seems like this show thrives on coming up with silly words like “Lava Chicken”. I sorta liked this one but it’s still pretty weak. Zorak takes over the show after bogusly claiming that Moltar went on “vacation”, tantamount to “escaping” Space Ghost's enslavement. Space Ghost goes on a wild goose chase looking for him. If this were a higher-budgeted episode they’d probably take it to funnier places, but Space Ghost talks to little Space Ghosts instead and it’s mildly amusing. Moltar was in the bathroom the whole time, nasty!

Space Ghost Coast to Coast #101: "Chantal" | December 2, 2007 | S09E04
Why do these all start with a weird click noise? I’m guessing that’s the website’s fault and people screen-recorded these? This one features Chantal Claret who seems like she’s a fan of Space Ghost. She’s also one of the biggest babes the show has ever had. It’s a shame she was wasted on a Gametap episode! I have not heard her music or googled her name + "Israel" so I’m not sure if I respect her or not yet. But she seems cool I like her. 
Space Ghost Coast to Coast #102: "Mark" (lost) | May 4, 2008 | S09E05 Space Ghost Coast to Coast #103: "Bruce" (lost) | May 16, 2008 | S09E06
Two losties in a row. No Idea who these schmoes are. I can’t even google these dildos. My pal London told me that the lost episode's titles/guests could very well be bogus; filled-in by some ne'er-do-well on a wiki, and that this information has self-replicated itself ever since. I am very interested to find out if that's true or not, but I believe it. I did do a cursory search on the library of congress website and was astonished to see some GameTap episodes listed, but it was missing episodes that definitely do exist so I can't really conclude anything from that.

Space Ghost Coast to Coast #104: "Dee" | May 25, 2008 | S09E07
Dee Snider who I heard is MEAN IN REAL LIFE appears in Space Ghost’s monitor. The compositing effects look bad again. Maybe Dee had to self-tape and this is what we got? They bleeped the word bitch in this. The Ghost Planet building is shown to blow up and a title appears on screen saying TO BE CONTINUED. This turns out to be a FUCKING joke. Dee is sorta funny in this, he gets into the spirit of the show pretty well by egging Moltar and Zorak to rebel against Space Ghost.

Space Ghost Coast to Coast #105: "Barenaked Ladies" | May 31, 2008 | S09E08
This is easily the best episode of the GameTap batch, because it made me laugh twice. I expect this gag might be polarizing, but the weird live-action nipple with the fly crawling on it made me laugh. It’s unlike anything the show has ever done, really, and it was probably the element of surprise that got me. I suspect that gag might’ve pissed some people off, though.
The other part that made me laugh was when Space Ghost urges the band members to do something “sinsational” and the smack his lips. No joke, I laughed so hard at this, and it was one of those rolling laughs that feel like they’ll never end. They deserved the Peabody award for that joke.

Space Ghost Coast to Coast: "Jonny Quest" | March 19, 1996 | Special
I wanted to throw this in there because I do sorta feel like this comes close to being a SORTA episode? It’s not really any better than the GameTap episodes, in my opinion. It’s mostly Space Ghost being excited about Jonny Quest’s VHS releases. Space Ghost never got an official retail VHS tape release, if I’m not mistaken, and couldn't you just imagine the world we’d be living in if there had been? 9/11 wouldn’t have happened! But Jan 6th still would have :( 
That's that for Space Ghost Weekend. We'll begin doing 2010 pretty soon. Maybe not exactly tomorrow, but soon.

Signs of Witchcraft, the dispelling. Part 2

Pixel art done by my partner( @desdemonasarchives ) <3 Yesterday I decided to embark on undoing the effigy/knot spell that I found in the desert. I hope that this blog post serve to offer a completion to the original post here: https://www.tumblr.com/ome-magical-ramblings/715380216894275584/signs-of-witchcraft-and-undoing-it-part-1?source=share I do hope that this serve to help people in undoing any curse or problem that they might have when they deal with it out in the field. All of this started because of me opening up to the land and the land spirits through the agency of Ganesha, who helped clean and sort out the flow in that spot. What happened first time is that I saw the same bone knot the first time, then dismissed it, a week ago I saw it again and decided to take it more seriously. The following is my process of cleaning the area/spot: Prayed to Ganesha at my home, offered a cookie, two candles and a rosewater cup. Took a rosewater bottle with me alongside 4 candles. I Went to the beach to get sea water since in Arab folklore sea water dispel any magic. Afterward I drove back to the bone-knot spell area and set up candles for the cardinal directions. Said ganesha upanishad and called Ganesha to assist me in this work. Used prayer from The Raccolta alongside prayer from Ars Paulina to call my guardian angel and ask for his guidance alongside Ganesha. I Poured rose water in east, south, west, north and called all angels, spirits, guardians, and elemental of all directions to guide my eye, hands ,and mind in this work. I washed the bones one by one and prayed for the dead animal that was used in the sacrifice. When I got to the knots I held it over the flame of each candle to burn it praying for the undoing and dispelling of the knot. Top part of bone that was tied broke off away(as seen in the image). I gathered the bones and washed all of them with the water, lastly did license to depart and went away. To note some entity was clearly standing on the side watching us, my car turned red in color my peripheral vision while I was doing the ritual. I noticed that I set the bones in the geomantic figure Tristitia...which opens up a can of worm about what it means. It can be seen as a wooden Stake that attacked the curse or holding the curse down! I went with my partner to cast both a geomancy(he did it) and a tarot reading, to get a general overview of how it went. Overall the reading of geomancy left me scratching my head and wondering for the whole idea, the tarot one seemed to be good leaning toward active neutralization and "gift of the land" in a sense. The general message was definitely a positive one but I asked around in multiple servers and in hermetic house server Gildedragon helped me with interpreting the chart:
Looking at the relevant houses we see a perfection (it is better with geomancy to ask binary questions I find)
The prevalence of via seems to say to me that whatever was is now gone; Poppy as judge generally says "bad question ask again" to me; but in this case: neutralization seems likely; though with a side of "you know how it went, you felt it, so why are you even asking"
FMinor in midheaven & 9, plus Poppy in 12 & 11 suggest to me that you need to rely on your spirits & you may need to take stock of the ppl around you Oh wait by partner. Ugh rotation time So it means that regarding you H11 and 12 are actually Carcer. Whatever sourced the curse is restrained. F major in 9 & 8. Casting was A SUCCESS

I personally feel happy as a conclusion of this operation! I hope to give it to people to find their own way of tackling these stuff instead of relying on simple cookie cutter procedure or a strict way in approaching things. heya! i’ve noticed that the gifs you make are verryyyyy high quality. i’m new to gif making (literally just downloaded photoshop yesterday 💀). how do you manage to upload your gifs without tumblr compressing it? or i guess, how do you edit your gifs so that it’s a smaller file size?

(re: uploading) I don't really do anything special. i just click the lil blue new post button select image and choose the gifs to upload. i think whether or not or how much tumblr compresses our gifs**, as long as they're ok quality they'll be able to withstand it.
(re: file size) i don't think i do anything special either but here's my setting. i stick to 540 px width and don't cut them too long. the only other thing i would change is the number of colors. most of the time i will compromise color for size (i try not to go below 128 colors)

(re: making them good quality) i avoid over-sharpening (pixelation) at allllllll cost. i'll choose under-sharpening over over-sharpening any given day. here is a lil write up from a while back on everything i do to sharpen my gifs.
besides that. since gifs can have 256 colors tops, the more 'neutralized' your gifs are, the less pixelation you get (so that the 256 colors can now all concentrate on bringing out the most realistic skin colors, for example). @ariesrain's gifs (hope you don't mind me using ur gif ariesrain!!) are excellent examples on how eliminating certain colors can make other colors in your gifs butter smooth (you can see the greens in the plants and the blues in the zippers were both neutralized. you also feel like ur looking at daniel ricciardo in person)

on the other hand, @3-13-3's works (hope you don't mind me using ur gif 3-13-3!!) are excellent examples on how giving your gifs more different & saturated colors can bring the liveliness to a maximum

in the end i think it's a matter of finding the right balance and doing things the way you like!! the same goes for gif sizing. some of my gifs look like they're gigantic (vertical) and goes on forever (duration) and have a decent amount of colors (if i do say so myself). in reality they're probably barely 10 colors away from being pixel art. the more extreme you want some factors to be (duration, height, colors), the more time you'll likely need to spend on finding the right balance (to keep it under 10mb). and over time you start to get a sense of which gifs are worthy of trying and which gifs will most likely be lost causes (ie there's no way you can do under 10mb at 9:16 vertical)

**p.s. i just did a lil research re gif compression (downloaded some gifs & compared them to the originals) and i think tumblr actually stopped rehashing (compressing) gifs some time during the last two weeks. With the older ones you can see signs of compression but with the new ones they're literally the exact same gifs down to the pixels. which is honestly good news!!

Actually, list of wild things that happened in my class yesterday as a teacher:
- student just slept during second period
- student talking about making pixel art on Roblox and earning money with it
- said student and his friend propose to draw something for me, I agree
- I came on a student's fyp on TikTok with my south park fanart
- students in third period won't stop being overly sexual
- during fourth period we got sidetracked by talking about space and the universe
- I propose to a class that instead of reading a book for English, they get to pick a manga or graphic novel. One student is set on still reading a book. Fair enough
- student start eating pasta during seventh period and doing her makeup after. I'm fine with a little eating but come on
- class I'm watching cus their teacher is absent is super excited because I've gotten the rep as the cool teacher that let's them on their phones during study and give candy (I indeed had candy, they played football)
- one of my students went to Uganda during spring break. He was very excited to talk about it.
- students won't shut up during last period. I'm just trying to teach about Shakespeare...
- some students had chips with them. Wasn't interrupting me so I let it be

I played Soul Void : Redux.
starting this off with : this is a good review and a happy thing
i am putting it under a read more for spoiler purposes uwu
about 5 or more years ago, i first played Soul Void. i found it on tumblr, and thought 'wow, that looks interesting' and showed it to my at the time GF
we both sat down and played it, me watching her at first, before deciding i wanted to play it along side her and go through the experience
getting into this game, immediately i began to see parts of myself in it. struggles i've had, words i've heard from others and from myself. i looked at the characters around me and felt them resonate with me and i felt.
feelings. sorrow, grief. the want to help, compassion and the hopeful feeling of 'don't give up, it will get better!'
i wanted to help them, and in turn by the end of the game, wanted to help myself
that was 5 years ago
i haven't played since, and not for a lack of not wanting to, just not feeling i needed to. i still remembered The Seeker, i remembered how The Leech and The Waiting were. i remembered how it felt, and i continued on.
then i began to forget, but still, i didn't go back. 'not yet', 'i don't need it yet'. it felt like
lately, it's felt like i did. a refresher, a chance to...process? a chance to acknowledge 'hey, these are struggles. these are feelings, but they can be helped. they can get better.
then i saw Redux was coming out. 3-4 months or so ago, i saw the update was set to release July 26, and i waited.
i'd forget for a few weeks, remember, check the date, and then go back to the day to day, only to repeat the pattern a few more times.
yesterday, i remembered. yesterday, i checked the date.
yesterday after D&D, i threw myself into playing again. and it was everything i remembered it to be.
it feels, oddly enough, like a medicine. a kind of salve that stings and soothes at the same time. my mental health isn't (and hasn't been of late) the greatest. victories in some places, loses in others. but progress, i believe, all the same.
going into Soul Void, i get to see all of these people doing their best. encouraging each other, the player and myself to do our best.
seeing The Waiting, The Husk, The Seeker. The Leech. all of them
new faces too, people i hadn't spoken to before! people i had yet to befriend! places i hadn't' seen!
i stepped into the game and hearing new music, reading new dialogue, having a chance to laugh and feel pain and sympathy and 'oh girl, SAME' energy.
getting a chance to stare evenly at the Grim, to find them less scary and more funny this time around.
getting to help The Seeker.
getting to HUG The Seeker.
getting the necklace. having it in the real world. the message behind it.
(ngl i'd pay some amount of money for that necklace as merch, by the way, if not try to juts make it myself. just tell me how it looks and by golly i will figure out some kind of way)
but i sat, and i loved, and i teared up and cried. i felt an ache in my chest that was soothed the further i went in
i listened to my own words being so automatically offered
'you'll be okay'
it'll be alright'
'this will pass'
'you'll get better'
offered to pixels on a screen that held a reflective piece of something i can see inside of myself, and it reminds me to share those with myself.
Soul Void is a game that sits in a special place in my heart. along side shows like Inuyasha and games like Undertale. it is a game that changed my life in an important time, in an important way.
for years to come, i will revisit it. for years to come, i will remember how every one looks at the end of the game, when you've helped them all. when you've helped yourself.
i will be drawing art of Hugging Seeker.
(also i wish we could hug more people, like The Waiting and The Leech. im not upset we cant, i just also wish we could.)
((also also does any one else have such an emotional attachment to The Waiting because i stg i kinda wish we could just sit with him, as the veins stop pulsing? so he's just not...alone..? but idk that's me))

i started doing pixel art yesterday, and for some reason decided that it would be a good idea for my third ever piece to be my character from the Spire campaign i was in -- meaning, since they're drow, i needed to learn how to do not just a face, but a face in greyscale.

As a distraction to Sad Thoughts™, yesterday I drew a concept design for Little Helper.
For context it's a shiny Chandelure for a pokemon story I'm crafting as a pick me up. Just scroll on if you aren't interested in me rambling about that and world building lol

Light and dark background for clarity. They're supposed to look like they have little fangs both above and below the lip... Thingy, but it didn't translate well in the end I suppose.
I like the overall design even though I'm not the biggest fan of shiny chandlure's color scheme. Went for 'expensive chandelier your grandmother paid a professional to clean instead of getting a Swiffer'. Don't get me wrong, I see what they were going for, but I think it could have been a bit more interesting. Like silver metal as well as the flame and body color? Idk, it IS better than Lucario's shiny though.
Why the hell they chose yellow I'll never understand. I'll die a hater for that one.
Anyway! I figured it would make sense that a professional breeder, breeding their own pokemon to assist in their business, would go out of their way to 'create' a stunning specimen. A sort of flex. And I liked the idea of stained glass. Might redraw this to lean more into that and maybe play with the colors more. But I wanted a basic design first, which I did! Hopefully it's cohesive before I start playing with the colors lol
Since I don't have such plebian concerns like budget or complicated pixel designs to translate into workable 3D art or whatever, I can just... Make it a Thing™ that Pokemon actually have some damn variety. I mean, we get that every so often in the anime, but it's a notable exception to the norm. And I get why, don't come at me, I promise I'm not bullying the 90s anime for not handcrafting hundreds of subtly unique designs for every instance of a species we ever see.
The point is that I don't have that problem. So if I want minccino to have different fur colors aside from Normal and Shiny, I can do that. Easily. Same with everything else. I doubt I'll go so deep into the weeds it's stuff like, this is a mixed breed Squirtle with lovedisc or magikarp in there. They'll generally still follow Pokemon logic of favoring a specific parent with maybe moves or abilities passed down if they're different species. Common, out in the wild Pokemon will look pretty typical usually. But once you get into domesticated Pokemon, they tend to look notably different. You can always tell if a pokemon was wild caught instead of carefully bred.
Just different color or fur/scale/claw shape. Minor adjustments depending on how bred they are for traits. IV bred pokemon will likely have unique traits that make it easy to spot deliberate breeding. Even if it's not that big of a difference. Like Sneasel having tufted ear... Feather things instead of a smooth leaf shape. Or spots in their fur. Stuff like that.
It seems like a fun detail.
Also decided where Edna, the main OC is from as well as some little details like being really used to having Pokemon groom her from a young age. Her parents have minccinos that are pair bonded and groomed her every morning. So Yolky, and eventually the rest of her team, tend to play with her hair.
Gets a little dangerous with Toxitricity, Danny (short for Cadenza), cause he puts down poison in her hair but she gets a bit immune after a while as well as the rest of the team lol. It was either poison braids or static frizz everywhere. Gotta compromise somehow!
It'll be fun to play around with established designs for a more unique look!

Tag 9 People You Want to Know Better
Very kind of you @missy-hissy ! I think it's one of my first times in a tag like this. As someone who has never been to a 15th birthday party before, I feel lucky to be able to participate in this xD
Last Song: Not definitely the last song I listened to, but I've been frequently listening to Beyoncé's new album. It has a great beat, and I broke my record by running 5 kilometers in 23 minutes while listening to it. It's my go-to workout song from now on.  Apart from that, the soundtrack of The Sims 1 and 2 is constantly on my daily playlist.
Last Show:  I haven't finished watching it yet, but I'm definitely a fan of Marie Forleo. She has a fascinating program on YouTube, and she herself is a fascinating woman, with captivating guests. The last show I watched was this one with Seth Godin
Currently Watching: Young Sheldon. We finished watching all six seasons yesterday, my girlfriend and I. I laughed a lot, and I loved that the sixth season gave more prominence to the other members of Sheldon's family. They are as fascinating as Sheldon himself, and I can see a bit of myself in each of them. Even in Sheldon himself. Haha ( I love his grandma too! That woman is the part of me that would break any rule simply because she can and because she wants to.)
Currently Reading: The last book I read (although it's been a while since I read) was this incredible book by Marie Forleo: Everything is Figureoutable. However, a book that changed my life and the way I perceive God/Religion and connected me to real-life experiences was "Conversations with God." These authors not only inspire me daily, but here's a little-known fact: I'm also a writer, and it was through this connection that I published my book “Tomando um chá com o universo / Having Tea with the Universe - The path from non-religion to living the life of your dreams and finding happiness" In it, I share the process I underwent to rid myself of "information overload" and find a path where I no longer let myself be guided solely by the pursuit of purpose, but instead embrace the fascinating art of being alive and present each day. In other words, finding meaning and joy in all things, rather than being consumed by the constant search for "purpose," which is often more of an ideal than a reality.
A book that I recommend to all artists who are reading this: "The War of Art." Once you read this book, your creative process will never be the same. If you can't find it, any other book by Steven Pressfield should be on your reading list as soon as possible! It offers valuable insights and strategies to overcome creative blocks and resistance.
Current Obsession:  My current obsession has been finding ways to make The Sims 3 even more fascinating! I've been doing this for the past three years, mostly through visual enhancements. However, this year I started delving into tuning mods and XML, and it's fascinating how many behaviors and mechanics can be improved just by tweaking a few lines! I'm definitely enabling a series of autonomous behaviors and seeking ways to make them smarter and more methodical. My ideal for The Sims 3 is not to have full control over everything but rather to be an observer who influences certain moments in my Sims' lives. To achieve that, I need to ensure that they can do EVERYTHING possible on their own to explore their lives to the fullest. I want to guarantee surprises and unpredictability, with my presence there only to support and occasionally influence them. Apart from that, I'm also fascinated by Life By You and how I can migrate all these enhancements to it when it's released.

happy one year to my hypnospace comic!
(and one day, just pretend i had this up yesterday shhhhh)
here's a little series of fun facts about making it
- started as a poem. i wanted to make a Millenium Anthem animatic and/or write a fic (i ended up doing the latter) but this came to me in the meantime and, being hyperfixated and eager to make something about it, it developed into a comic.
- that said, i was deep in the throes of an art burnout. i tend to make a lot of art around the new year, usually due to being in multiple gift exchanges, as well as working on my own things during winter break since i don't usually have the time to during school, and that wears me out. both this year and last i struggled with having energy to draw. however, i'd just recently found out a style that was pretty easy to work in even in that state: polygonal! so the comic is pixel polygons.
- the comic actually sort of ties into (and is directly quoted in the summary of) the aforementioned fic i wrote—which is called "do(n't) be afraid"—as evidenced by the focus on the HSPD badge as well as the Enforcer being almost a self-insert
- the typography is done by hand. i looked at the game's font file for the standard font and copied it. to this day i can pretty reliably just. handwrite in hypnospace font with the pixel pen. and i do! it's very space efficient!
- the dithering is also done by hand, because i'm a madlad. well, for each pattern i did like a portion by hand and then copy-pasted it until i covered as much area as i needed to, because i'm a madlad but i'm not a masochist. and then when i needed it again i just copied and pasted the layer and used a clipping mask to change its color. now though i have that big pixel brush pack on clip studio paint. so i won't be needing to do that again anytime soon.
- in panel 3 we see the Enforcer's face as well as glasses on their desk. like i said. pretty much a self insert. we also see their computer and hypnospace headband; i studied that intro video for this but between not seeing it a whole lot and the artstyle i was using being really simplified, i'm probably missing something lol
- in panel 4 we see dylan merchant at his desk. there's a calendar behind him. i actually looked up what day of the week was december 31, 1999 so i could circle it. it was a friday.
- the girl in panel 5 is supposed to be rebekah, the girl who likes squisherz and won the fan art contest but didn't get to find out because her dad took away her hypnospace headband. there's only one small picture of her to go off of, though.
- panels 7 and 8, which can also go together as one tall panel, were fucking FUN. what i did for the glitchy static bits was i made various clusters of black rectangles, each cluster on a different layer so i could copy and rotate them to fill more space. then on a clipping mask i used airbrush without antialiasing in white, RGB, and CMY. boom, static pattern. the elements from the game (the error message window, the cursors, the car) i had to copy by hand. see, the wiki doesn't have many screenshots, and if you try to screenshot the game or a video of it then it scrungles your image clarity. so i had to take those screenshots, eyedrop the colors from there, and then do such riveting and time efficient (that's a joke, it took forever) tasks as Count Pixels So Everything Is The Right Size. which for the shiny new HypnOS 2000 look was painstaking. look at those gradients. gradients everywhere. it was worth the work because it looks fantastic but man. and then to scrungle those elements i just used the rectangular selection tool, grabbed arbitrary bits and pieces of the things and Moved Them Elsewhere.

so. Heyhay and Sherb saw my animation on their fanart stream yesterday. so im taking this opportunity to gush about the process because i am a little nerd.
it took me three ish days, and it was so fun to make. Originally i was just playing around in pixel art and i made a little ocean animation. my next thought was "how do i do this, but fable" and i decided to make a little animation, with a part for each character.
So for Aax, I did axes, but they deteriorate a long the way, as symbolism of Aax becoming more of a person and not a weapon or a tool. (also i did the pixel art rotation instead of rotating manually and that naturally messed up the pixels, but i just rolled with it) Then i did Addies spiderweb, which is actually my favorite piece, with the spider going down.
For Arisanna, i had to redraw it like 3 times, it was on of the most struggling for me to draw, as i didn't know what to do. I tried making a book open and have pages flip, but i realised (AFTER DRAWING LIKE ALL THE FRAMES OF THAT SECTION) that i didn't know what i was doing, so i deleted everything and just did a scroll unfolding instead. Also i have an arrow going through it to represent the pillagers. cause this was at the time Ari was missing.
Next was Athena, so i had flowers and then the lava pouring down. Also i was so lucky on that part that Caspian was next because the red bg for him fit perfectly. I drew a not working bound compass(im not sure what its called in Minecraft terms) because. lost one.
Then i had the reaver for Centross, and i wish i did more of a slicing motion instead of the turning motion but it is what it is. For Easton, it was one of the more difficult ones, as i knew the bg would be skulk, but i didn't know what to do for the foreground. I associate Easton with building, so i had like. buildings pop up. Then there's a flash of color? light? to transition from Easton to Haley, as it represents bot Easton going blind and also the bright flash right before Haley came back.
Then i have a ghost for Haley, obvious reasons. For Icarus i was torn between potions and blood eye, so i did both. Funnily enough, a healing potion is redish so it works with eye blood colors. That was my favourite thing to animate, with the blood drop falling so i did it again later for Wolf. For Jamie, I mad a pot of honey because bear, but also because i could then turn Sherb's potion into the honey and it worked out. I also did some vines bc of Heir of The Wild reasons.
For Momboo, i did a flower blooming and i love the way it turned out. Its one of my favorite pieces. but then again, everyything is my favorite. For Ocie, i did the wave idea that started the whole thing, and for Rae i did the three shards (Ender eye blinking, Skulk/perix, Alerion bubble) I like the ender eye part the most. Ulysses was another one i struggled with, because what do you do for a cahracter whose theme is medical malpractice? so i did a med kit, and used the syring to transition to Ven's one. I really liked how that turned out, too.
Then for the last two, I had Ven have a notebook that got filled with writing, because of his job days. and also ecause i still cannot draw a book. Then for Wolf, I did like claw marks, but I had some of it drip into starbarks, because like i said earlier i really like how that turned out with my sherb one.
What i learned from this experience: so many purple guys and book guys. Also drawing is cool and fun
