The Soul of the Earth by Chardae Hilson

Rain drops fall like petals of moonstone,

their cyclindrical shape cannot help but to combust,

losing all form at its meeting with the windows sill.

The trip down blurred glass is almost whimsical,

melancholy in its melding nature.

To dissemble and form again into something bigger, more whole, and entirely more mobile,

again, and again, and again.

The fluidity of water is awe inspiring,

the constant cycle of falling and moving,

becoming undone just to become done again,

It is a marvel to know

that this same water touched the skin and the lives of those from worlds before.

To be touched by water is to be touched by God

and to experience the soul of the Earth.

One of the most intense and spectacular rainbows I’ve seen in a while. What fascinates me are the different tones of grey on the cloudy sky. I’m sure there’s a scientific explanation for the way that the band between the bows is so much darker than the rest of the sky. I think that I might have to try to paint this. Hmm my fingers are twitching all ready to play. I’d love to incorporate rainbows in my glass work but not the garish primary colours that most artists and designers use. I’m intrigued as to how to create the iridescent hints of these colours that somehow gives the sky a subtle sheen. At some point I’d like these to evolve into other products. The Dragon of Milos

“The waves crush on my boat’s bow as I sail against the sea currents. A layer of salt has encrusted my eyelashes and I can taste it over my cracked lips. For years I’ve traversed these seas, hoping to one day see what I yearn for in the distance. And today I’ve finally found it. The infamous landmark, the Dragon of Milos, guide of those lost at sea. People called me mad for believing such a fairy tale and I don’t blame them. What sane mind would accept that such a thing even exists? I know it’s not a ploy of my own mind this time, for I could never imagine something so majestic. The wind that filled my sails to the brim is now calm, as if nature itself wants me to admire its creation. I can only hold my breath as my tiny boat nears the island under the Dragon’s watchful eye.”

It’s definitely been a tumultuous week but the storms seem to have blown away a few cobwebs. It’s a deliciously cool and cloudy day again today which is a glorious contrast to the intense humid heat of the last few days. My plans for the weekend are to have gentle creative time, sitting and doing nothing for a while to allow the thoughts to sort themselves out into some sort of order and generally allow myself to catch up after an intense week. The soft blue of this hydrangea creates an ethereal glow in the dark greens of its surroundings. It’s etheric nature implies something else that is elusive and intangible especially from a distance. Monet would no doubt have captured its essence beautifully. I am inspired to play with these colours today to see how I can incorporate them into my artwork. Painting helps me to be more mindful and to slow down to a restorative pace.
