There's an interesting thing happening with the whole recognition of Hybe's profit over skill strategy. Fans of the company are re-centering the standard for singing to that of the company's groups instead of acknowledging the problem. That feels like a symptom of the fake news/subjective reality context of contemporary life.
In previous decades, there was some consensus over reality. What I mean by that is, we could all agree on what a good singer sounds like. We could debate who was better or best, but the debate between good vs bad singers wasn't controversial. Now, we live in a time period where people's identities and communities are rooted in beliefs (not facts) about art, and if these beliefs are lost, so too are people's identities and communities.
I think tying your identity, self-worth or community to someone else and their art is dangerous. We risk skewing reality to maintain our status quo if we are too entrenched. Donald Glover's Swarm was a good satire and statement on this phenomenon. I think there are already a lot of real-world consequences at play.

maybe it's selection bias but I was thinking of how post apocalyptic narratives in the Cold War era used to be set either in lawless urban spaces or in a deserted area wiped out by nuclear fallout while now the dominant aesthetic is nature reclaiming its place and engulfing and eroding human settlements

i don't really read fanfiction but i've seen that a lot of people that do really dislike 1st person pov, and i wonder why. 1st person pov is a tool as helpful as any other if used well, and generally the option to use it has some thought behind it and not just because, but is that not really a problem in original works because you don't know the character to begin with?
i have no problem at all with 1st person pov but i can imagine that characterization problems in fics would be even more apparent in it (aka they would not fucking think that, and such).

fun things: technically neither the Aegon nor the Rhaenyra coronation were attended by people who signed up for it... the crowd at Aegon's was rounded up at swordpoint by guards without warning so that there'd be a fuckton of witnesses; the people who watched Rhaenyra being crowned were family and people attached to her household, and while at least they were there willingly, they were there for a funeral, not a coronation

sometimes i think about how if joanna lannister was still alive how she would interact with sansa especially given her situation in king's landing.

i'm very picky about tv shows, but my pickiness has only an incidental relationship to whether or not a show is "good". it needs to scratch a particular itch in my brain at the right moment. do i know what the right moment is? no. do i know what the itch is? also no. i can be relied upon to get instantly bored of 85% of tv shows and then turn the remaining 15% into a central facet of my personality for 3-5 business months and even i am incapable of predicting which one it'll be ahead of time.

How long does that potion last?
Hi! Here's a guide I wrote for how long Minecraft potions last in approximation with real time. This is for Java edition only, and hopefully will be useful in stuff like fanfiction.
For reference, a full Minecraft day is 20 minutes in-game. That's 10 minutes of daytime, 3 minutes of dawn/dusk, and 7 minutes of night. I will be equating 10 minutes of daytime = 12 hours of a real-life day. I'm calculating this via comparing percentages, so let me know if I have messed up the math. Potion times are from the wiki and instant potions such as healing or harming are left out for obvious reasons.
---------------------------
20-22 second potions: Potion of Slowness IV; Potion of the Turtle Master I and II; Potion of Poison II; Potion of Regeneration II
Lasts approximately 0.396 hours real-time, or 23 minutes and 46 seconds (for 20 seconds potion length)
40-45 second potions: Potion of Poison; Potion of the Turtle Master +; Potion of Regeneration
Lasts approximately 0.9 hours real-time, or 54 minutes (for 45 seconds potion length)
1.5 minute potions: Potion of Regeneration +; Potion of Swiftness II; Potion of Strength II; Potion of Leaping II; Potion of Slow Falling; Potion of Poison +; Potion of Weakness; Potion of Slowness
Lasts 1.8 hours real-time, or 1 hour and 48 minutes
3 minute potions: Potion of Swiftness; Potion of Fire Resistance; Potion of Night Vision; Potion of Strength; Potion of Leaping; Potion of Water Breathing; Potion of Invisibility
Lasts 3.6 hours real-time, or 3 hours and 36 minutes.
4 minute potions: Potion of Slow Falling +; Potion of Weakness +; Potion of Slowness +
Lasts 4.8 hours real-time, or 4 hours and 48 minutes.
5 minute potions: Potion of Luck
Lasts 6 hours real-time.
8 minute potions: Potion of Swiftness +; Potion of Fire Resistance +; Potion of Night Vision +; Potion of Strength +; Potion of Leaping +; Potion of Water Breathing +; Potion of Invisibility +
Lasts 9.6 hours real-time, or 9 hours and 36 minutes.
Tipped arrows, according to the wiki, last 1/8th the time of their corresponding potion if applicable. Since that might vary, I'm not going to calculate them all here.
Go forth and have fun writing! I wrote this post nearly 2 years ago, drafted it, and forgot about it. I hope it can be of some use for writers.

Leo's relationship with death
Leo really doesn't like to think about death.
I mean, we all saw how much impact Karai's death had on all of Mad Dogs but Leo was the only one that had to be dragged from her, yelling after her, he really, really didn't want to lose her.
And I think when he lost her it left a deep scar.
I saw posts talking how Leo wants for things to get back to normal and pretend nothing happened, which I completely agree with. I think it's in big part because of his fear of repeating losing a close one.
He REALLY doesn't want to even acknowledge death.
Here Raph seemed to be getting through to Leo-
-but the moment he mentions possibility of his family dying?
Nope, time to deflect, joke and feign ignorance.
Leo's aware that death is a big part of being a responsible hero and that's why he'd rather goof off with his brothers and not train.
Because obviously when you ignore something it just dissapears, right? So if they ignore severity of certain situations and possibility of dying it won't happen, right?
If they don't treat it seriously they'll be fine! Totally!
Then Raph shields Leo from the Krang and sends him away.
And it's as if Karai's death stared right in his eyes.
So Leo picks up the slack of leadership in order to save Raph. He behaves carelessly during this time but can you really blame him, he desperately wants to save his brother, to stop yet another family member from death that he is so scared of.
He still tries to be positive and nonchalant, that "pfff obvioulsy everything will turn out alright!" but at the end of the day, it's not that simple.
Casey's speech had hard time to really hit Leo, he's still avoiding confronting resposibility, literally and metaphorically turning away from it. But the moment Casey says Leo's whole family died?
Now that made an impact.
And every time his family is in terrible danger he looks absolutely terrified and basically every time Leo has to be dragged away to not just return and try to save them again.
And when there's nobody to drag him away?
First thing he does is sacrifice himself. Because I don't think Leo is scared of his own death, or at least he is not as scared of him dying as his family. He'd rather give away his life than live through another grief.
Obviously I'm not sayin that the rest of the fam isn't terrified of close ones dying. But while they seem less aware (Mikey) and/or more ready for the possibility (Raph)...
Leo's wholly aware but he'd rather not be and ignore his fears until he can't anymore.
