okay, so i think eddie struggles a lot with vulnerability, but it's not because he doesn't understand how he feels. i actually think eddie knows himself very well, and he's very emotionally intelligent - which is sort of a double-edged sword, because he's very good at saying exactly the right thing at the right moment to make someone feel better, BUT, when he wants his words to wound, he's also very good at finding sore spots. we see both of those with him and bobby in s5. but even as early as s2 and s3, he's always able to clearly articulate what he's feeling and why. he doesn't LIKE to do it, but he CAN.

his problem is that he tends to intellectualize his feelings and distance himself from them, and also, honestly, that he's just got a tendency to freeze when it comes to heavy emotions, because he never learned to process them. so his whole thing is like, i'm going to just put this in a box, and yes, i know it's there, but i don't need to look at it. which worked, up until it didn't.

but yeah. i don't think he's actually as clueless as he's often interpreted. he's just, you know, repressed.

okay, so my current pet peeve in 9-1-1 fandom is the fact that you cannot honestly talk about eddie and shannon's marriage, and what went wrong there, and why she left him, without contending with the fact that (a) she came to los angeles to care for her dying mother and also (b) she asked him to come with her, and he said no.

like, i think there are a lot of fair criticisms to make about how she handled all that especially in regards to chris, but she didn't just up and leave eddie and chris because she was sick of being a mom or she didn't want to deal with eddie's ptsd, and even the more sympathetic discussions of shannon rarely seem to mention that. she was in an impossible situation. they both were.

i don't think i really have any unpopular madney opinions! i think they're very sweet together, and they also have very similar senses of humor; the show also does a really good job of making them feel like a real couple who genuinely enjoy each other's company. i'm not generally a fan of will they/won't they break-up/make-up arcs, but for them it always feels like they're both working together toward something they both want, and it's worth it to keep going until they get there. so yeah! love them. i sure hope nothing goes terribly wrong with their wedding next week 👀

an important principle of fandom (and life, actually) is that if you want more of Less Popular Thing, it is good to create positive spaces and events for it. however, if you use those spaces to take cracks at the More Popular Thing which you perceive as stealing oxygen from your Less Popular Thing, you do not increase the audience for Less Popular Thing. you decrease it, because you irk people who like both Things. and depending on the relative popularity, there are quite possibly more people who like both Things than people who only like Less Popular Thing. (not to mention - you kill your chances of recruiting people who like More Popular Thing but are neutral on or haven’t considered Less Popular Thing.) 

you’re not campaigning for votes (where There Can Be Only One), you’re marketing for a share of people’s attention. don’t be petty. be effective.
