will says that el has a book of letters from him because he’s just pointing out that they kept in contact regularly whereas he and mike didn’t but somehow mike interprets that as if will was implying there should be something romantic between them too and it stumps will bc that’s not what he meant at all and he doesn’t realize yet why mike is actually so mad or who he’s mad at, and while we clown mike for being oblivious i think will is oblivious too bc this isn’t the first time mike’s done that and yet. will doesn’t question it. he never does and they never talk about it. he just continues with what he’s saying about how they used to be best friends. they never talk about the fact that when will fights to salvage their friendship mike talks about it as if it was more than what it was and as if continuing as they were would get between his relationship with eleven. which implies that he himself feels that their relationship is inappropriate if he wants to date eleven concurrently and explains why it’s the only friendship within the party that seriously falls apart and why will is the only party member that he completely changes his behavior n actions towards and why he’s the only party member that he no longer touches once he dates eleven. which again also explains why after they start dating it’s only when eleven isn’t around that he allows a softer, more open and present mike to reappear around will. it’s just like. why would he do any of that if he’s not projecting? will is literally the one with a canonically confirmed interest in him and yet he’s mad at the roller rink because will is ignoring him [or so he thought at that point]. he’s not mad that eleven lied. he’s not mad at what those bullies did to her. he’s mad that will didn’t talk to him. he’s so mad and hurt by will that he doesn’t even console his girlfriend who was encircled, taunted, and had a milkshake thrown on her all on tape. he stays by will’s side despite everything, even when she’s fidgeting and crying to the side of them. to top it off he even makes a passive aggressive bitchy little comment at dinner afterward because he’s still. mad. at. will. will is the one that ruined his day. not those bullies being cruel to el, but will. it clouds his vision so much that he can’t even pretend or begin to attempt to entertain the idea of being there for her when she so clearly needs him. how does anyone fucking watch any of that and not get what’s going on. HOW????

It's definitely been a very emotional few chapters, lots of ups and downs. Obi-Wan is slowly, slooowly starting to believe Anakin loves him, I think. At the least, he feels reassured while they're together.

Obi-Wan snapping back at Shmi was something I initially had no idea how to do, but I felt like it was really, really necessary. His type of character won't hold a grudge, but that doesn't mean his feelings weren't hurt 🥺

Also I'm honestly gonna have to get back to you on the scent thing because I initially didn't have blackberries for embarassment but then I found it in my drafts so I just left it like that. And of course we've also got jogan fruit added to the scent profile (not that that's "canon" yet I guess). I might rearrange the way that I had been thinking of it in my head, but first I have to reread the text and make sure that my new idea makes sense 😅 I'll make a more in-depth post at some point!

re: the ritual thank you soooo much, I really loved it. I've known for a while that I wanted it to conceptually be passing knowledge down (especially since the Freed are, by necessity, so big on oral tradition), but for some reason that scene was SO difficult to write. It haunted me for weeks with half-written drafts until I finally got a version that satisfied me enough to post...

Also, I hate to tell you, but like. As correct as you are about Obi-Wan's impending heat, it's also wayyyyyy out there on the timeline. There are so many other thigns that are going to happen first 😭

Omg imagine this: Lewis and Jenson are at a club, they've just become friends and constantly party together and flirt with the HOTTEST Omegas everywhere they go (they may have even shared an Omega or two during one of their nights out). Nico has been hearing a lot about Jenson and is lowkey jealous that Lewis has this other friend who he's giving his attention to and spending all his time with. Despite HATING clubbing (too sweaty and gross for our princess), Nico decided to go there after hearing Lewis is going to be there. So, in walks Nico, Lewis' lifelong frenemy, and Jenson immediately finds him attractive. Nico doesn't know anyone else there, so he goes to up to them and Lewis just teases him asking him if he is finally going to let loose and Nico roll his eyes and Lewis laughs and continues to poke fun at him.

Maybe Nico back in the day used to have the tiniest™ crush on Lewis and found him super hot during their arguments, but Lewis never really picked up on it (we love our clueless King). So, Nico assumed that Lewis did not find him attractive and never acted on this crush from years ago. But then, Jenson sees Nico and gives him a flirty look and Lewis is confused— this isn't some random Omegas they flirt with, this is Nico, HIS Nico, HIS frenemy. And suddenly he feels anger bubble up inside of him. He doesn't understand why he feels this way, but he pushes himself between Nico and Jenson and makes sure they both are separated for the rest of the night.

Nico meanwhile is just relived that Jenson is actually this hot Alpha and not actually someone he has to compete with for Lewis' attention. In fact, Britney is thriving and lapping up all the attention of the two hottest Alphas in the room giving him all their attention. He's also contemplating his no-clubbing rule after having so much fun, but then someone throws up next to him and he regrets everything.

He throws a fit after his new shoes are covered in puke and Jenson begins to realize how high maintenance Nico is and Lewis grumbles about how Nico is ruining the vibe with his complaining and Nico decides to leave. Lewis being the gentleman agrees to drop Nico home (and Nico lowkey knew he's do this, because despite their arguing Lewis ALWAYS drops him home, it's how he was raised). Nico feels a bit bad when they leave the club and actually apologizes to Lewis, who acts annoyed that he has to leave early. Lewis sighs and says it's alright and grumbles about how much he's missing out on since the headlining DJ just got there, but deep down he's SO HAPPY that he got Nico away from Jenson— for now.

at that point, Lewis and Nico have known each other for so long and their relationship has changed so many times but they have always kind of been in each others' orbits, and they just know each other...

and then right before they maybe finally make it, maybe finally act on their silly mutual crushes, Jenson is there to charm and smirk his way into Nico's bed, throwing them back yet again.

having THOUGHTS about them right now and i need to vent it or else i will Explode like the Sub okay. i was not a jacktrevor girlie until i saw trevor in the stands with jim hughes + that candid photo of the two of them laughing ntdp-era on the streets of NY and there’s been some seriously insane scholarship on jacktrevor here like hello it is making me so insane i wish i had the words for it. its like. ok what if we met when we were 15 and we knew that we were going to be each other’s person for the longest time and we loved each other so much that we’re mirror reflections of each other and i can’t tell where you end and i begin. what if we were 15 and we promised ourselves to each other. what if. nothing ever happened because we were 15 and we knew it wasn’t going to end well and we wanted to be 15 so we carried on as friends, watched each other hook up across the room at house parties, crawled into each other’s beds at the end of the night without ever touching each other, went through the draft and the growing up and the living without each other and finding out that we’re still each other’s persons. what if i make it to the playoffs before you did. so you went to watch the game with my dad. and then i realized we were no longer 15. GODDDDDDDD. the specific vibe that has been crawling into my chest is being stunned by the enormity of your feelings like one day you wake up normal and the next day you realize you’re in love. where’s that tumblr post about the not romance not platonic but a secret third thing where the lines are so blurred the thought of romance hangs over your head like a guillotine. YEAHHHH. that’s such a guillotine to hang over someone’s head like! what if you already did all the hard parts of baring your worst self to each other, getting into a relationship but doing the steps in all the wrong order that the thought of defining your relationship gives you a headache because how do you even begin to define whatever soulmate fuckery these two have been on since they were 15! where do i even begin with girl jack. still a fuckboy. still flirting. still got incomprehensible confidence. looks up to see trevor chatting animatedly with her dad in the stands and panicking on ice when she realizes she has extremely specific feelings about this, about trevor’s who’s always matched her step for step. i think there is also something sooooo insane about trevor and his very public relationships and how he is Failing at romance in general. girl jack having to live through that and going “i could never imagine being one of trevor’s flings.” and then she does self reflection and realizes she doesn’t want to be one of trevor’s flings because she wants something More Than That. girl trevor would also make me insane. still fucking around and fumbling her way through relationships. jack ribs her all the time about that except he’s also a little on edge watching it happen in real time hoping it never happens to him which is haha SO funny jack you absolute silly little goose. why would you think trevor would want to date you? you’ve been friends forever, if something was going to happen it would’ve already happened. cmon man it’s a little misogynistic to think that every girl who’s your friend wants to date you. ellen raised you better than that cmon jack. besides. why are you thinking about trevor dating you. why are you scared of something that you say could never happen. why do you live in fear of the idea that she could break your heart. how could she break something she doesn’t have. right? hmm. anyways i think there is no easy for them to be in a relationship. years of seeing each other hook up with other people and also knowing the deepest, ugliest parts of each other and also just. having deeply intertwined lives and shared social circles and history and friendship. i think it would deeply terrify them to see each other in a romantic light after all these years. they grew up together! they know each other best! how could they put themselves in such a vulnerable position of losing each other, of losing what they have? it would be the hardest relationship of their lives. so like, why do it? thinking deeply about the insane media and personal speculation also because i LOVE acknowledging the very real effect of other people’s opinions. people going “of course you were going to end up together!” and other people placing bets on whether or not they were going to end up together like. of course people have opinions. part of it is Media, Baby, that’s what you get for being the franchise center but part of it is also. who they are as people. and their personas just inviting public speculation. they preform the role of a celebrity extremely well! like maybe they should get together because that’s what people expected? maybe they shouldn’t get together because that’s not what people expected? how do you manage a deeply personal relationship that survived childhood but is now subject to the media. and then the actual logistics of being together like in what world does it make sense to do long distance for a decade. like. hello they are both respective franchise centers. no one is moving anywhere. except maybe trevor to the rangers but ANYWAYSSSSSS. i just think they should crawl into bed together, coming home from a bar after watching each other hook up the whole entire night and not say anything as they fall into a deeply unrestful sleep, shoulders pressed against each other.

then after a few moments of giggling at how weird this whole situation is, you stop laughing when you realize you're still so sad about what happened earlier and he sees your face drop, he gestures you to come closer so you sit on the edge of the tub 😔 he says "get in here, there's plenty of room" and holds out his hand so you can come sit between his legs 😔 you lean back with your head on his shoulder and he wraps his arms around you, putting his face in your neck and he says "I'm sorry, you don't deserve to be hurt like this" and you sigh, turning your head a little to kiss his arm, its normal for the two of you because you've always been touchy with each other but he can't help but falling in love just a little more in that moment 😔 he says "I hate seeing you get hurt" and then after a few more moments he says "you deserve to be with someone who adores you, and who looks at you like you hung the moon and stars" and you can feel how fast his heart is beating when he whispers "someone like me" and your eyes go wide, you're trying to turn around to look at him but he just tightens his grip on you and says "don't, don't make me look at you when I've embarrassed myself like this" but you're persistent, squirming away and turning around in his lap so you're straddling him, you take his face between your hands and huff out a laugh at how he keeps his eyes squeezed closed, you say "h, look at me please" and finally he does, his eyes are a little bit sad because he thinks he's just ruined your friendship but you can tell he doesn't regret saying it 😔 you're looking right in his eyes when you say "I've loved you since the day we met" and his face shows pure shock for a moment before he sputters out a laugh saying "we're really stupid then, aren't we?" and you nod, he puts his hand on the back of your neck and pulls you in for a kiss 😔

5. How do they comfort each other when they are sad?

both will physically be there for the other, soothing with words and touch. maty makes dumb jokes to try to make raha laugh. raha, in contrast, will seek to talk about and resolve issues.

16. Jealous at all?

a little, but neither acts on it. both are guilty of thinking themselves not good enough for the other, and so are sensitive to seeing others flirt with or show interest in their beloved. thinking about aymeric kissing mathilda's hand when they have their inevitable trip to ishgard while raha pretends he's not immediately jumping to conclusions and there's certainly no lump in his throat no...

8. What are their most prominent memories of each other?

oh there are so many: their first meeting, their time together running around the crystal tower (raha telling eager maty the history; maty recounting her experiences clearing the tower out), sitting in kholusia talking before mt gulg, the painful joy of seeing each other in amaurot (raha seeing that she came for him, maty seeing him alive and still fighting), "tis good to see you awake, g'raha tia" (ALL OF THE CALLBACKS SINCE; this + their first meeting is canonly a prominent memory for both lmao), running through the tower together again but more desperately, and many others since then.

but the one I think both treasure is the moment mathilda wakes raha in the crystal tower with his soul crystal. he wakes to see her standing over him, terrified and shaky. he expresses happy surprise that it worked. she manages to blubber "of course it did!" before she just bursts into tears and pulls him into a tight hug. and she cries and holds him for a long time, getting all of that stress and fear and suffering out while he holds her just as tightly (and cries with her). it's a moment of vulnerability for both, and they feel so safe and connected in each other's arms that the feeling has always lingered.

(that moment was promptly ruined a few minutes later by alisaie who definitely could not sit still in the rising stones while her two faves were elsewhere)

21. Personally, do you think they are a good couple?

yes! they complete each other in key ways: maty is the adventurous and reckless spirit that raha was rarely able to let loose when younger, while raha is the scholar mathilda wishes she could have been, not just in his education but his patience, dedication, and stability (mathilda watching the exarch very calmly and articulately tell ran'jit to go fuck himself: OH MY GODDDDDDDDS). there are occasionally some clashes in these areas (see: raha scolding maty for her poorly timed jokes as in 6.1) but otherwise, they push each other in ways that they want to be pushed.

but they also share a fierce love of learning and exploration, a curiosity that cannot be sated, a passion to make the world better, and an uncanny capacity to inspire and lead (that neither of them recognise in themselves, but admire greatly in the other).

perhaps most importantly, both demonstrate to the other their value. maty fears being lost under the mantle and that she's not the hero everyone thinks she is, but raha does see her under the 'warrior of light' label ("share your burden with me" 😭) and loves all of it. meanwhile, raha does not think of himself as a hero, but mathilda sees - and loudly proclaims - him as a greater hero than she is. they see each other!!
