I DREW ALL THE GREEN BOYS!!!
These boys! They’re in order of game release (hopefully) and it’s my initial take on every link and how they compare to one another. I say initial bc I wanna make more interesting designs for them later on (like give spirit tracks link uniform that looks like a royal guard outfit yknow). Oh yeah btw these are the 28 green men from the poll a while back.
There will probably be more Loz art so uhh yeah

I have stuff to aaask
1. Besides Phantom hourglass, what’s your other favorite zelda game?
2. What are your hopes for breath of the wild 2?
3. What is your favorite video game console?
4. What’s your favorite genre of music and one of your favorite artists?
5. Do you own any zelda or Pokémon merchandise? What’s your favorite piece of merchandise?
Thanks for the asks! 1: My other favorite Zelda game is skyward sword- I consider it as my other 1st favorite, though I like them both for different reason. While I want to dissect phantom hourglass like a science class frog an analyze it like high literature I want to kiss skyward sword on the mouth it’s so pretty and I love the music and it’s fun to play and I barely remember the story and it really drags sometimes but it’s so much fun and has a great style. Also a bit unrelated but I love the unconventional controls for these two some people hate them but I love how they’re used it’s so fun to use motion and touch controls while all of my other games are controller or keyboard based.
2: I don’t really have any specific hopes for botw 2… I don’t have much of an emotional investment in botw 1 so I’m not really interested in whatever story it has to tell, so I guess this time we get actual dungeons? Don’t get me wrong, the divine beasts were cool, but when compared to the dungeons of other Zelda games, they just feel… lackluster. I’d like to see big dungeons with cool puzzles and mechanics again. Also I want to see gimmicks. Like more gimmicky items. More than just a bow or the runes. Stuff akin to skyward sword’s beetle or hookshot/grappling hook or stuff like that- items with more specific purposes.
3: I don’t really care about consoles in general but the 3ds is peak gaming to me. Big consoles and stuff are cool but I love the design and handheld nature of the 3ds. It’s small and had/has great little games and they last so long and they’re perfect and the backwards compatibility with ds games is awesome.
4: I don’t actually have a favorite genre of music, my opinions on music are based on individual songs, so if I like a song I like it and genre doesn’t usually have any real sway on my opinion. The same goes for artists. Though, I’d say I favor video game music, while it’s not really a genre on its own, there’s some really good video game music. But l anyways, more recently I’ve been having a good time with orchestral music of most kinds, and I’ll say that my favorite artist is Kristofer Maddigan, the guy who composed the Cuphead soundtrack, which is a really amazing game soundtrack and I recommend checking it out if you haven’t before.
5: For Zelda, I’ve got posters and books and amiibos and a map of the original game and stuff like that and I think my favorite is that loz encyclopedia book just because I can use it for reference and for Pokémon I’ve most just got the cards, which are my favorite. I don’t even play the card game I just love collecting the cards because I love the art and just holding and sorting them by type. So the Pokémon cards are my favorite overall pieces of merchandise.

Just like how botw had small details telling us the probable ‘canonical’ route Link took (aka Zora, Rito, Goron, and then Gerudo), totk has something similar. I’m sure all players noticed that the newspapers will feature one region that is meant to direct Link to go aid the people there. First is Rito, next is Goron, third is Zora, and last is Gerudo. BUT! They also added something else.
Zelda’s role in the story. Namely, her interactions with Tulin, Yunobo, King Dorephan, and Riju. Annnnnnddd Link’s reactions to her!
Tulin’s interaction with her is one meant to confuse players: Zelda was in the past, but Tulin saw her? So she’s here in the present and we’re chasing after her. Sounds a lot like Skyward Sword, okay (which was released on the switch last year, so anyone who didn’t play it back in 2012 had another chance to). It confuses Link, but spurs him to become a journalist ? Cool, I’m here for it. I did journalism for 4 years, I’m sure Link can do it too!
Then, for Yunobo, he actively speaks to Zelda, we see her figure, and Link will actively gasp whenever we see her. He has a genuine reaction to her presence, because he’s surprised, but then we see pink gloom glow in the mask that Zelda have Yunobo and it makes him freak out land turn against Link. That’s when we start to put together that maybe Zelda is being controlled? Or she’s NOT Zelda, just as Yunobo begins to theorize but can’t quite wrap his head around it.
Next, we have King Dorephan who is actually attacked by Zelda and is injured to the point that he decides to hide from his people as to not create more chaos in this time. He chooses to give Zelda the benefit of the doubt here— he could have easily had his people turn against Hyrule and all Hylians because of Zelda’s actions. But he doesn’t! Because it simply doesn’t make sense. And by the end of the quest, Sidon comes to the conclusion that the Zelda in the past and the Zelda in the present are NOT the same.
And we see that thought truly stick with Link in a cutscene in Gerudo. After defending Kara Kara Bazaar, Zelda appears and Riju calls out for her. There is no gasp from Link like with Yunobo’s story, instead he watches Zelda with a slightly narrowed gaze and does not stop watching where she was last seen until Riju directly addresses him. They actively show the players that Link is suspicious, but he is still so very dedicated.
And it happens again, in the center of the light triangle. Zelda appears and Link begins to walk toward her, but there is no intake of breath, no shock at seeing her… instead he slowly walks until Riju calls out for him.
After Link finishes each phenomenon, going to Lookout Landing gives the players a clue in how Link is reacting. Specifically, if you speak to Buliara before going to see Purah, she says something along the lines of “Purah is up on the top deck, but don’t miss a wrung in your haste to get up there.”
Link is expected to rush. Because everyone is muttering about a figure that MIGHT be Zelda. At the castle. Right. Then. And. There.
Link GASPS when he first looks into the scope— Purah doesn’t even say it’s Zelda, not before Link sees for himself. It’s seeing her, clear as day, and even if Link KNOWS it’s not her… there’s still that seed of doubt that lives in his mind. And then at the castle, Link does twist and turn whenever he hears Zelda. He rushes after her every. Single. Time. She disappears. Despite that he knows it isn’t her, he can’t give up. He can’t. It’s quite literally not in his DNA. He sees it through; he needs to make sure it isn’t her. And it’s all a trap, one he walks right into, because he just HAS to see that it isn’t her.
And if you want to say “but Ash… this is just a recap of the storyline in the present.. not small details” let us just remember that Link’s driving motivation in this game is to find Zelda and bring her home. So many people just ignore these little moments or miss them completely.
And I’ll be damned if I don’t talk about link’s gasps or his twists and turns or his micro expressions that tell us so much about how he is feeling.

I really like the decision to set TotK a few years after BotW, as opposed to the few months we’re used to in direct Zelda sequels. It gave the world a substantial amount of time to change. Hyrule is livelier. In the years of relative peace since Calamity Ganon was vanquished, it’s been allowed to grow and thrive. Hateno Village, the largest Hylian settlement, is becoming economically significant as a tourist destination and food supplier. It’s especially cool to see Riju, Tulin, and Kass’s kids mature into their adult/teenage years, respectively.
Building on that, I think it’s neat that Link is in his early twenties now. This is the oldest Link we’ve ever played as (Skyward Sword held the previous record at 17.5 y/o). He’s had time to adjust to life post-calamity. His traumatic mutism seems to be all but gone. You ever notice just how much he talks in this game? Dialogue options galore, he’s constantly explaining things to other characters, all that. And he’s more expressive, too. He outright laughs when he fuses weapons.
Link’s relationship with Zelda has also had time to grow. Guys. Fellas. Broskis. They live in the same house. In which there is only one bed. They are together. The implication here is that they share most of their meals together, and remember, it’s key to his characterization that he opens up emotionally when he’s cooking or eating. That means there has been a lot of quality bonding time between them.
Before and during the Calamity, Link served as Zelda’s royal bodyguard because the king demanded it of him. Given how he went mostly mute from the pressure of being entrusted with the princess’s safety and being chosen as the Hylian Champion (at age 17, mind you), I’d wager he didn’t particularly like the assignment until he started bonding with her. He looks downright sad when she snaps at him in that one memory at the shrine. Hell, he doesn’t smile once in the memories.
But you know what? I get the feeling that Link protects her now not out of duty like he used to, but out of love. That’s powerful because “love conquers all” and all that, but also, there’s no external pressure to be her bodyguard. Until the Upheaval, he was done being a special little hero. He was just a swordsman, but he still went where Zelda went to protect her. So instead of being crushed by that pressure, protecting her is an expression of his love for her. It’s a choice and he’s doing it because he wants to, not because it was forced on him.
That’s a lot of growth to go through, and it was paced over several years. He doesn’t appear to have aged much, but enough time has passed that Hudson has a daughter who can hold a mature conversation. That’s what, 5 years old? Yeah, Link is in his early twenties. Fucking finally, the task of saving the world falls on the shoulders of an adult (although speaking as someone entering his mid-twenties, that honestly isn’t much better).
I’m starting to ramble here so I’ll leave a parting observation of Link and Zelda’s house in Hateno. Zelda has redecorated a fair bit since moving in with Link, replacing his weapon racks with photos of her horse and various Hyruleans (her subjects who she cares deeply for), but the photo of her, Link, and the Champions is still up. And that’s really cute.

I have a silly little question about your silly little comic!! I love your versions of the Links so much. Loft is such a mood FOR REAL!!
anywho,
How did you come up with the original concept? If this is somewhat spoilery- then don’t answer it. But i’m more so wondering what let you to go
“i want to make a comic about the silly links accidentally breaking and fucking everything up. also trauma lots of trauma”
Did you come to the understanding of, looking at other peoples AU’s? Or was it something in the games itself? I’m just curious on what your thought process was when brainstorming originally yk?
Also, small bonus question/comment thingy
when making backgrounds- like Zelda and Wilds house or Lofts home with Zelda and Groose- did you base the backgrounds on your own ideas of what the characters would live in? Like if they’d have clutter or silly little notes in the background. I love how your backgrounds are just- chefs kiss- so simple but shows us a glimpse into the characters mental state (as all good rooms do *stares at my messy one*)
that is all, i very much so enjoy your comic. it’s gotten me through the bad Wednesdays of highschool. Keep going!!! i am excited to see it’s conclusion.
waugh thank you so much!!!!!
And I guess the answer to that first question is all of them above? Bonus Links is, of course, an extremely derivative work. LU was my first introduction to the links-meet-au format, so I’d be remiss not to give credit where credit is due! Probably many ideas I’ve absorbed from fics I’ve read, and headcanons I vibe with that come from the wider fandom. The idea for Bonus Link’s actual plot though originally started from my fascination with Skyward Sword’s lore. I know not everyone’s a huge fan of how much that game retconned, Demise’s “curse” in particular, but there’s a lot of ideas in that game that I find REALLY interesting, especially in ways that the game doesn’t really acknowledge at all. How would Skyward Sword Link feel, if he found out he truly didn’t finish the job? That the cycle continues on and on beyond him? That was the jumping off point.
Because it’s a cycle, I get a lot of ideas from like, which Links have experienced similar events, and how their experiences compare and contrast. What becomes history, and what actually happened? And I also use a lot of my own experiences playing the games as inspiration! I’d played as many as I had access to when I started the au in 2021, but I’ve made it my mission to play every single game a Link is featured in before they get introduced in the comic lol. Still got a few more to go, but I’m almost there!
As for the second question, absolutely! If I’m showing someone’s home in the comic, I try really hard to add details that tell you something about them. At the very least, I want them to look lived in lol
Tumblr media
like, Slate still having the champion’s weapons on display in his house. Zelda’s mostly taken over the first floor as her workshop, even adding a Sheikah tech furnace somehow. She’s filled her room with pictures she’s taken on the walls. She’s got a sand seal plush from Riju, a Sheikah jacket from Impa. Her workspace is a little cluttered!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the other hand, Slate’s room upstairs looks a little less personal. He’s got some pictures on the wall, and some plants growing from around hyrule (that Zelda has kind of commandeered for research lol) but otherwise he’s left it how Bolson and co furnished it. If anything, it’s mostly just for storage. He doesn’t actually spend much time sleeping here, but Zelda still doesn’t want to take it from him.
Tumblr media
Loft, Groose and Zelda’s room is very cozy ( I should have added more blankets. Imagine like 4 times the amount of pillows and blankets) and tidy, but there’s still a little mess— shoes left out, basket of poorly folded clothes, etc. Cute knickknacks, mostly made by loft and groose! It’s not in this sc but groose’s comb is somewhere I think lol
Tumblr media
Idk if iced shared this detail before, but Loft put a lot of effort into designing and carving (probably with some assistance) these columns for the house! Even though carving’s hard for him these days. It was his biggest contribution.
anyway, those are some of my thoughts!! I’m so happy to hear you’ve been enjoying the comic! Thanks for reading!!

What Your Favorite Zelda Ship Says About You (for the games I’m familiar with)
General:
Link x Zelda (ZeLink): You are a firm believer in the inherent beauty of two souls coming together, again and again, through reincarnation after reincarnation.
Hylia x Hero: …see above. Also, you read the Skyward Sword manga.
Ocarina of Time:
Link x Zelda (ZeLink): You think classic Disney Princess movies are more feminist than given credit, and that Cinderella is more badass than she’s given credit.
Link x Sheik: You were absolutely fucking pissed to learn that you can only play as Sheik in Super Smash Bros. Also you are almost definitely some flavor of trans.
Link x Dark Link: Looking back on your childhood, you can pinpoint Ocarina of Time as the beginning of your crippling addiction to “Enemies to Lovers”.
(Child) Link x Saria: You really like Disney Channel movies where the popular kid’s girlfriend is nice to the loser protagonist.
Link x Malon: You just want good things for Link. And really, who wouldn’t? Also, you’re a horse girl.
(Adult) Link x Nabooru: Your favorite Champion is Urbosa.
Link x Ruto: You love the scene in Dragon Ball where Goku accidentally proposes to Chi-Chi but holds up to that promise when they’re adults.
Twilight Princess:
Link x Midna (MidLink): You are a firm believer in the inherent eroticism of getting dunked on.
Link x Zelda (ZeLink): You are a firm believer in keeping things canon and keeping things wholesome.
Link x Ilia (IliaLink): You believe that the Hero of Time settled down with Malon.
Midna x Zelda (Midzel): You hypothetically want a girlfriend who can kick your ass but realistically you just want to be bridle carried. Also, you read the manga.
Midna x Zelda x Link (Midzelink): Your solution to a love triangle is ALWAYS polyamory.
Midna x Zant (MidZant): Your AO3 history is about 50% Reylo fanfiction.
Zant x Ganondorf (Zandorf): You definitely got your start in the Star Wars fandom by writing Kylo x Hux slash fic.
Skyward Sword:
Link x Zelda (ZeLink): You have gotten into at least five heated Internet arguments about Skyward Sword being underrated. Also you cried at that ZeLink shot in the Tears of the Kingdom trailer.
Hylia x (Original) Link (Hylink): You cried at that other shot in the Tears of the Kingdom trailer of maybe Link’s metal arm holding maybe Hylia’s arm. Also you read the manga.
Link x Ghirahim (GhiraLink): You are still pissed Ghirahim wasn’t in Smash.
Link x Groose (GroosLink): Your mom told you that that mean boy on the playground pulled your hair because he likes you and you never let go of that.
Zelda x Groose (Zeloose): You are painfully heterosexual. Alternatively, you are Groose.
Breath of the Wild:
Link x Zelda (ZeLink): You are a firm believer in the inherent romanticism of shared trauma and Knight x Princess dynamics.
Link x Mipha (MiphLink): Your ideal relationship dynamic is one-sided, tragic pining. Press F to pay respects.
Link x Paya (PayLink): You just want good things for Paya. And really, who wouldn’t?
Link x Sidon (SidLink): You’re always a slut for beautiful cinnamon rolls, too good for this world, too pure.
Link x Revali (RevaLink): You love the Tumblr meme that’s like “You want to fuck me so bad, it makes you look stupid.” Also, you think people are too mean to Revali.
Zelda x Revali (ZeReval (?)): You are heterosexual.
Urbosa x Zelda’s Mom: You are a strong supporter of two women who are sick of a man’s bullshit.
King Rhoam x Literally Anyone: You think Endeavor deserves a redemption arc.
EDIT: the sequel

I think Zelda games have always had this balance of storytelling and gameplay it always confused me when ppl said “Zelda is more about gameplay” which sure but I think it means that there is always a gimmick that makes the game. The story rlly is there to keep you engaged with not only the gameplay but also yknow the story. Some of Skyward Swords dungeons were a bit of a drag to me but I was already hooked on the story that I wanted to see what happened next. So I persisted to the very end of the game and had fun and engaged on a fun story. (Do i got issues w sksw lore yes but that’s a story for another day)
Here comes TotK, its fascinating how I was able to record my live reaction through posts on here. From Wind to Fire temple and the first three dragon tears i was engaged on what was happening. That was until I reached that one dragon tear where everything just fell apart for me. And I sighed i was like “no this game is fun and I’m going to continue on playing,” but then it slowly felt like a drag to me to continue. Things started to feel less fun to engage with. My friends insisted to get dragon tear memories from 6-8 so I dragged my feet to the locations they were at and boy. Did I completely lost all motivation to continue playing. At this point I was just sad that this is how it was going I immediately knew where the story was going. The gameplay could only do so much to keep me going when I could be replaying botw for the 5th time.
That’s why I believe that tloz games especially post-oot games have a balance with story and gameplay

Animated Zelda Adaptions
With recent discussion of an animated Zelda film to follow the Mario movie, I got to thinking about ways to adapt different Zelda games into animation. While a Zelda movie wouldn’t necessarily need to be an adaption of a specific game, with the variety of styles the series has gone through over the years, they’d need to pick one to go with — so here’s my thoughts.
Zelda 1/Adventure of Link/A Link to the Past/Link’s Awakening
I’m putting these four together because I think they could all be adapted into animation the same way — based of the original official art, in the style of an 80s cartoon (just with a bit more of a budget). Each game could be a season of a TV show, expanding on the somewhat limited plot by making it episodic and using the extra time to expand on the characters and world within that format.
Tumblr media
Ocarina of Time/Majora’s Mask
For these two, I think stopmotion in the style of Laika (known for Coraline & Kubo and the Two Strings) would work the best (or using 3D stylised to resemble stopmotion, like the Lego Movie). The OoT style doesn’t seem like one that would translate to 2D very well, and I think it would be fun to borrow some ideas from the Link’s Awakening remake for the Switch and have the character designs stylised so they look almost like action figures. While Ocarina of Time would have to be a movie, Majora’s Mask just wouldn’t work in that format, since the sidequests are so vital to the overall story, meaning a one season series would probably be the best way to adapt it.
Tumblr media
Oracle of Ages/Seasons
I’ve never played these two myself, but I think going more ‘anime’ with them would work well, although it would be fun to work in the pixel art of the original games somehow. Like the other Downfall Timeline games, these ones would would work best as a TV series — maybe three seasons, one for Ages, one for Seasons, and one for the linked games ending but adding in extra story where Link travels between Holodrum and Labrynna. For an animation studio, someone suggested Toei Animation, who apparently did the animation for the LA remake.
Tumblr media
Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks
Wind Waker, the one that got me thinking about animated Zelda in the first place! I think this is the only Zelda game that would work with Illumination due to its more cartoony style, although other studios like DreamWorks would also work. Although if it was done in 2D, based on the official art, Cartoon Saloon would definitely pull it off. Wind Waker would work pretty well as a movie with pretty minimal changes needed to the plot, and Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks could make up a Zelda trilogy.
Tumblr media
Minish Cap/Four Swords Adventures
Leaving out the original Four Swords due to its complete lack of story — I think these two would work with a similar style to the Wind Waker trilogy, although I’d definitely prefer them to be 2D over 3D. Minish Cap would definitely work as a movie, but I’m not sure about FSA, it probably depends on how much is pulled from the manga.
Tumblr media
Twilight Princess
Much like Ocarina of Time, I don’t think the Twilight Princess artstyle as it is would work in 2D. Based on their work like Wolfwalkers and Screecher’s Reach, I think Cartoon Saloon could definitely replicate the vibes of the original game in a more cartoony style. Alternatively, they could go full anime with this one — although it would definitely work better as something more inspired by 90s anime and its more realistic proportions.
Tumblr media
Skyward Sword
Initially I was leaning towards Ghibli and while it would definitely work, just doesn’t feel right to me. Maybe Toei again? I’m not too familiar with Japanese animation studios, but Skyward Sword is definitely a good fit for the typical ‘anime’ look. Also I don’t think 3D would work here.
Tumblr media
A Link Between Worlds
While technically a sequel/remake to A Link to the Past, the differences in art style make me feel that this one should have its own look — preferably 3D so the contrast with Link’s painting form is strengthened.
Tumblr media
Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom
These ones have got to be Ghibli, there’s no question about it there. The big question is do you make them each a series, or a movie with a number of timeskips? Either one has benefits and downsides.

Febuwhump Alt Prompt 7: Last Words (AKA Day 12)
Tags/Warnings: Referenced character death (The Shadow)
The journey is over, and it’s time to say goodbye.
Read it on AO3!
A Parting
The field was quiet, devoid of the sounds of battle from mere minutes ago. A gentle breeze swept through, twirling and dancing around the heroes as they stood, all swords raised skywards. It was done. The enemy had been slain.
Hyrule shivered as he felt the overwhelming presence of magic in the air, like crisp winter air, curling around the nine of them, bathing the area in a shimmering gold veil.
“Heroes… You have fought well… Valiantly… Your journey draws to a close…” The voice chimed, quietly authoritative, drawing the attention of the mentioned heroes to the swirling gold that had appeared.
Portals. They would be going home. Hyrule felt his chest clench and throat close, eyes stinging as reality fell upon them. He could see Wind sobbing, clutching to Warriors, as the older hero gently shushed him, cradling him gently with silent tears.
Next to him, a little ways away, Time held Twilight and Wild in a hug, refusing to let go of the family years ahead of him, clutching onto them for dear life. Hyrule turned to face more sobbing; Sky, the culprit of said sobbing, was curled around a teary eyed Four, both wore smiles.
A throat being cleared behind him made Hyrule jump, whipping around to see Legend, who offered him a hand with a soft smile. When he took it, he was a little surprised to be pulled into a hug. Hyrule wrapped his arms around Legend, feeling as the other trembled. The tears Hyrule had been holding back spilled over, darkening the red tunic he buried his face into.
“I’m sorry that your world fell into decline, that you grew up in a place of constant danger,” Legend’s voice was quiet and shaky, “But you’ve been so brave, despite everything thrown your way.” The pink haired hero laughed wetly, pulling away enough to see Hyrule’s face.
“I see too much of myself in you, and that admittedly terrifies me,” Hyrule swallowed back a sob, “Even with that fear, I know how incredible and capable of a hero you are. I’m proud you’re my successor.”
The floodgates broke, Hyrule slumping forward as he sobbed, burying his face into Legend’s tunic, feeling the other hero wrap him tightly in a hug. The wetness seeping through his own tunic alerted him to the fact that Legend was also crying, making him clutch tighter at the veteran.
They slowly parted, tears glistening on their cheeks and in their eyes, making their way back to the others, in a similar state of teary-eyed. The humming of the portals grew louder, beckoning them back home. Wild stepped forward, holding what appeared to be a book to his chest.
“I asked Purah for her help with these to make sure they’d withstand anything.” The scarred hero handed him a small leather book, Link; Hero of Hyrule scrawled on the front in loopy handwriting. Inside the book were pictures of their time together, captured memories so they could never forget and get to reminisce.
Hyrule approached Time, slightly staring at his blank eye that was open, as he focused on the books in his hands- it seemed Wild had given him two, one for himself and one for Malon. The older hero glanced over at him, a soft smile playing on his face, and pulled Hyrule into a side hug.
The magic of the portals started to tug on them, slowly losing patience as they said their goodbyes. Hyrule removed himself from Time’s side, shuffling over the portal that called out for him, noticing the others had done the same, except for Twilight, who walked over to time with a bag in his hands. Hyrule knew what was in there, he had placed things in there after all, blinking back more tears.
As Twilight moved to stand in front of his portal, Time spoke, “Whenever there is a meeting, a parting shall follow. A salesman on my quest had told me this, and now I believe I fully understand it.”
The golden light began to envelop the heroes, readying to pull them back to their home eras, “It’s no longer dangerous to go alone, now that I have you all with me… in heart, mind, and spirit.” Hyrule choked out, watching the emotions on the others faces before being swallowed by golden light.

now. totally 100٪ picked at random,,, spirit tracks? (or skyward sword if youve already gotten that one)
Ok tumblr deleted my giant ramble about Spotify tracks so take two 🙄
If you didn’t like phantom hourglass I implore you to try spirit tracks because it fixes all the issues I have with phantom hourglass. The music is PHENOMENAL, the world is so diverse and vibrant, the different towns are fun and the side quests helps you connect with them more, and overall it’s filled with charm. Zelda and Link easily have the best Zelda and Link relationship and they bounce off of each other super well! This Zelda to me is so complex and interesting and I adore her so much! The story is good, Anjean is wonderful, Byrne is fascinating, and everything is so wonderful. I love this game so much, I almost played through all of it in four days! I injured myself doing that! That’s how good it is!
Now it does have flaws, some parts of this game are so hard that it actually makes me mad lol. The sand temple and the item you get are AWFUL, and I’ve been stuck on the final boss for a year now 😔 I haven’t finished it so I can’t talk about the ending unfortunately, but yeah…. I also kinda wish the descendants could a little bit more love. Like Alfonzo looking a bit different than Gonzo besides the outfit, Zelda having a different design, Linebeck III being more than Linebeck with a hat. Like Joynas gets this treatment perfectly why can’t everyone else get that 😞 I also kinda wish Linebeck III was more than a cameo cuz Linebeck was so important to Phantom hourglass, but that’s just cuz I’m insane for Linebeck. And lastly, Byrne is wasted potential to me :( I wish we got to see him develop more cuz I feel like he didn’t get the amount he needed you know? It’s a shame cuz he’s super cool!
But yeah, haven’t finished it yet but I’ve played most of it where I feel like I can talk about it lol.

ooo i’m here for another google doc essay thesis on all the zelda trans narratives <33 lol cited sources and everything (if you have time of course, i love reading all of your headcanons on loz)
god. okay this is every mainline game ive played (excluding sequels with the same characters) except skyward sword because i forgot about it at first and now im tired. here
oot/mm
Basically the entirety of oot is a super-intense wartime coming-of-age story, dealing specifically with the trauma of losing one’s childhood to war/being a child in wartime. Any coming-of-age can be easily analyzed through a trans lens imo, but oot lends itself particularly well to this reading.
For the first nine years of his life, link is told that he is a kokiri. He spends all of his childhood trying desperately to fit in with the kokiri, even though he and the kokiri he grows up with can tell that he is out of place somehow. When he leaves the forest and grows up, it clicks into place that he was never kokiri. And it HURTS. He was lied to. But he suddenly finds himself BELONGING for the first time, among hylians. One of the most impactful npcs in the series is, imo, malon, who link bonds with, feels connected to, and who GROWS UP just like him. She is a representation of everything link gains by leaving the forest. The chance to grow up, and the chance to be among people like himself and understand for the first time who he truly is.
I don’t think i have to explain the subtext i'm getting at here. Replace kokiri with gender-at-birth and you have yourself a trans story.
There are also, of course, points to be made about link’s lack of bodily autonomy throughout the story and his reclamation of it in mm. Link is, in the eyes of basically every adult in oot, a pawn to be used to win a war. He is something to be molded into the shape THEY need him to be. This is a common conflict in loz--the hero NEEDS to be the hero, and so he is given no room to define himself otherwise.
Again. Do i have to explain the trans reading of this?? Adults who feel entitled to you for whatever reason refusing to let you define yourself in a way that doesn’t appeal to them, and viewing you as an object to be shaped into THEIR perfect image. Classic trans kid experience.
Zelda i think is even more obvious because she literally physically transes her gender in the game. For no reason. A female ninja would have been fine. Female ninjas exist in this world. Impa is the obvious example. Zelda became a boy because he wanted to be a boy. This is factual, canonical story. I dont even NEED to go on but i WILL because i can.
The subtextual reading of trans zelda is even more fun imo. This is a kid who grew up functionally powerless. She KNEW ganon was going to destroy hyrule but she could not make adults hear her, and when things went wrong it was her fault. Sheik is, in many ways, a rejection of zelda. She does away with the ancestral name denoting wisdom because she was not wise enough to save her kingdom from ruin. he chooses sheik instead, a name derived from the historic guardians of hylia, and by extension hyrule. he reclaims the power he lost by, again, defining himself where he was never allowed to before.
Personally i consider oot zel to be nonbinary and use she/he and the names sheik and zelda interchangeably. I really love the idea of a kid who grew up with so little control over anything in her life taking it all back and then deliberately fucking with some established rules anyway, just as a little show of power now that he has it. It’s what she deserves.
Alttp
A LOT of my reading in this is totally rooted in subtext/analysis rather than actual canon material. If you haven’t read my analysis of alttp in my analysis doc i suggest you do bc some of that context may be needed to explain what i say here, since alttp is an older game so there’s much less actual canon characterization to go off of.
There is a moment in this game, once you have gone through several dungeons and claimed the master sword and fought the secondary antagonist twice, where link is transported into the dark world. A mirror dimension in which his human form is distorted into a form that “reflects his inner self.” He looks into the mirror and he does not recognize the person looking back at him.
The form he takes is a rabbit, which is, in my opinion, a reflection of his inner fear and the fact that he doesn’t want to be a hero. This link is a young boy who basically loses the only family he has and is then instantly thrown into the midst of a conflict he doesn’t fully understand.
There are two points to be drawn from this. The first is the distorted self-image revealed in the dark world, which. The connection to transgenderism should probably be obvious from here. I’d say looking in the mirror and not quite recognizing yourself is a near-universal trans experience.
The second is that, although this game is much less obvious about it, this link is in a very similar situation to oot link, in that he has been thrown into a conflict he doesn't understand and doesn’t really have any stake in, in order to be used as a pawn to win a war. (worth noting that if we follow the timeline, oot link has to DIE for this game to happen. They never fucking learn ig) so we have a repeat of the same situation in which link’s autonomy is taken from him by adults who want him to be a hero. Ive already explained the trans reading of this. You get the idea
Im skipping zelda in this one because it came out in 1991 so zelda is barely a character. Shes trans because i say so. Next
Tp
Twilight princess did not do very well on a multitude of things. We all know how i feel. HOWEVER. There is something to be said for the fact that when link approaches people in wolf form they recoil in fear and disgust. And he canonically doesn’t expect this. It disturbs him. He KNOWS these people. He’s still the same person inside. Nothing has changed for him except the way he looks. But now no one will so much as look at him.
To be quite honest. The wolf form was a bit of a thematic L in my opinion. I don’t think it had much narrative purpose and my best guess is that it was there to give tp a “brand-new fun gameplay” draw. But the fact that everyone is TERRIFIED of you was a good choice imo. I wish it had been followed through on thematically but I digress. There is transgenderism here. When you go back to your hometown and nothing has changed, as far as you’re concerned, but people avoid your eyes now. You haven’t changed, not really. You just look a little different. But the people either hate you or don’t recognize you now, and in some ways you’re glad, but in other ways you feel… alien.
Zelda also isn’t a real character in this game but it doesn’t get an excuse because it came out in fucking 2006. We knew women were people by then guys come on. Anyways shes also trans because i say so. I dont feel like thinking about twilight princess any longer lol sorry
Ww
Im going to start with zelda/tetra here because i have a lot more to say about her lmao
Tetra is a wild, loud, stubborn, angry pirate. She is the exact opposite of what your average hylian might imagine a goddess-blood princess to be. She’s rude, she’s volatile, she looks out for herself and no one else. This is an image she has curated. But she is also kind. She lets link on her ship when he begs her to help him save his sister. she slips him a good-luck charm before he storms the fortress. She takes aryll home and never asks for payment. She is a pirate, but she does these things that seem so strangely… at odds with herself. I think a lot of her tough exterior is a curated image, for the benefit of her crew, yes, but also herself. If she is stubborn and loud and angry and unlikable then she is less likely to get hurt.
Tetra learns who she is, and she is suddenly a new person, a different person. She’s zelda. And she’s so CONFUSED. She tries her hand at being a princess. She sits and waits patiently for her hero to come back to her. But in the end, she can’t even do THAT right. Things go wrong again, all because of her.
During the final battle of this game, zelda fights alongside you with the bow of light. I believe this was one of the first games in which she does this.
This is a nonbinary narrative. Tetra tries so hard to fit into one box or the other, princess or pirate, but can never quite master either. During the final confrontation, though, she finds a happy medium. She is kind, wise zelda, in her regalia with her hair untied, but she is also stubborn, angry tetra drawing her bow to fight alongside link. She will not be defined.
she/they tetra ftw lol. anyways
Wind waker link honestly has much less textual evidence for me than like. Any other link because imo wind waker is almost completely a clear-cut coming-of-age. It’s very easy to read (almost) any coming-of-age as a trans narrative but much less easy to actually explain that read.
My stance kind of boils down to this: link has a clear-cut arc of growth in this story from a weak, inexperienced kid into a soldier who is capable of taking on ganon. This arc is kickstarted by him leaving home and no longer being confined by the limited perspectives of the people he grew up around. Unlike other links, this one doesn’t have too much pressure on him to be a hero. In fact, I would consider his growth into a hero to be framed very positively in this game as it gives him the agency he lacked at the beginning. This is an interesting departure from most other games in which link lacks a lot of agency.
Basically, i think that while most other games can be read as kind of… tragic trans stories, about the struggles of not being allowed to define yourself, etc, wind waker link is the story of a kid who is finally GETTING to define himself. It’s more similar to Majora's mask in that way, in that this kid has already HAD the chapter where he’s confined to other people’s expectations and is now beginning to break out of it and reclaim his own identity.
Botw
Jesus. God almighty. Okay
Like. not to keep beating a dead horse but this link is the most obviously negatively affected by the expectations and perceptions of those around him. He explicitly goes mute BECAUSE he knows people expect him to be a hero above all else, and it will be easier to conform to that expectation if he keeps quiet. This poor boy is so terrified to be imperfect, to be something that hyrule might not like, that he SHUTS DOWN. he is essentially nothing BUT what hyrule wanted him to be, because he never allowed himself to be anything else.
I have already explained the trans read of this. Reread ocarina of time’s segment. Holy SHIT. he is so transgender. Also he’s 5’2 and has shoulder-length hair come on
Side note but i think botw is cool because it explores BOTH facets of the usual loz narrative (lack of agency/reclamation of agency) within the same game, while most other games go for one or the other. When link loses his memories he is FORCED to define himself, as he has nothing to go on anymore, which is a reclamation of the agency he had lost pre-calamity. Essentially pre-calamity is the oot segment and post-calamity is the mm segment of the narrative. It’s cool. Anyways
Zelda. GOD.
She is not the daughter her father wanted. She knows this. She tries SO HARD for SO LONG to be the daughter her father wanted. But she can’t. She will never be good enough in his eyes. Eventually she gives up on doing exactly what he wants. She hopes she can win his approval in other ways, with things she is good at. Things she CAN do right. But it’s never enough for him because all he sees is the daughter he wanted. The daughter she should have been. He doesn’t care that she can’t. He only cares that she Is Not. she knows she will never win his approval but she keeps trying anyway.
Do i really need to explain this. Babygirl you are so trans gender

y’all know how i made a joke abt how i shouldn’t make a linkverse based off of how i play each game? well. i’m having thoughts so here’s how i think each link would be based off of how i played their games:
warning i have not played every zelda game (or completed any aside from botw at this point) so these are just the ones that i actually have my hands on or have watched several play throughs of
Skyward Sword:
DUDE IS PISSED. THE ENTIRE TIME.
very much a reluctant hero at the start
“i’m not gonna find ur fuckin kikwi— fuck ok fine whatever ur lucky fi is on ur side.”
he does want to help and he likes doing side quests, but he was just so worried about Zelda that he became irritated and just wanted to get on with it
has no rupees ever definitely not because of impulse spending how dare u even imply such a thing
violently in love with Zelda
in the scene in the beginning where he realized Groose locked up his bird, he was livid. if Zelda didn’t step in he would’ve thrown hands
actually such a bafoon he is so confused
horrified of spiders. he just about sobbed the moment he saw the big ones in the skyward temple
loves his birdie so much. they are besties beyond comprehension. they talk shit.
so so bad with directions. dude is lost constantly.
has a lot of emotional maturity but still struggles with bursts of frustration, especially when confused
felt so guilty for knocking down the chandelier in the Lumpy Pumpkin
Ocarina of Time/Majora’s Mask:
very confused very often
he tries his very hardest but still needs help
“……..” “link. link do u n—“ “no no i’ve got it i know what to do” “……” “ok fine navi what do i do” “throw bombs in the eyes” “FUCK”
that being said he gets so happy every time he figures it out himself it’s great
first time he saw a peahat he just about sobbed
“NAVI. NAVI WHAT THE HELL IS THA— OH HYLIA ITS MOVING ITS MOVING ITS MOVING NO”
ready to slap Mido at any time
will sit and listen to malon sing for hours
very self conscious and doubtful that he has what it takes to be the hero. after Majora’s Mask he’d be more confident in his abilities but still scared he’s not as skilled or smart as the other Links
the biggest worrier. he does everything out of fear of other people getting hurt
if i do a whole linkverse thing i’d want him to be in the awkward teenage stage and attempt to be a big brother figure to the younger ones, but be awkward abt it and fumble a lot
fucking hates bowling
i have so many thoughts about what happened during Hyrule Warriors. so fucking many.
Wind Waker:
so fuckin lonely. dude is on the seas constantly with only a boat to talk to. he is so alone.
Aryll is his number 1 bestie and he really struggled with being without her lively presence at first
medley and him are also really good friends !! he thinks she’s so neat and just. nice
thinks Tetra is literally so cool. the coolest. she’s so cool no he definitely doesn’t have a crush on her what are you taking abt
thought the barrel was the funniest shit ever and always giggles at the memory of it
got so annoyed when the king tried to parent or guide him at all. excuse you big man let him travel the oceans. don’t stop him from sailing at that point. let him be free.
that being said li’l guy Roams. he got to places he didn’t have the proper equipment for way too early and only got the proper equipment because he realized that it could help solve that puzzle or something
so into the side quests. he loved going about and helping people at every turn, it reminded him of going about the village and helping his neighbors
that being said the joy pendents were like pulling teeth. he did it just because he like things to be complete, but it sucked. he was so annoyed the entire time.
loves the koroks so much they’re wonderful
if i actually end up doing the linkverse i think he’d be about 15, maybe 14, but unlike oot and mm link he already went through his shithead stage and has practice with being a big brother
definitely doesn’t hum sea shanties to himself when he thinks he’s alone. definitely not. never.
Tri-Force Heroes:
in my head tfh link is the same as albw link so. =)
mostly used dopples
DUDE IS FILLED WITH ANXIETY
he’s very quick to react and is very aware of his surroundings, but struggles with focusing or honing in on any one element
very good at solving the puzzles
the combat, however? not so much. the totem system was really something to get used to and he prefers not to fight with it. using it to get to places is no big deal (though annoying at times) but the fighting is just plain aggravating
super fashion forward (obviously)
he LOVES Madame Couture and her apprentice, and has a soft spot for all of the townsfolk
he became to attached to townsfolk so quickly actually. like he loves the people of Hytopia so much.
his self esteem was put through the goddamn ringer and he has a lot of self worth issues because of it yes i was personally insulted by the mass amount of bear sweater insults. it was a cute sweater fuck off
that being said he covers it up with an egotistical front, taking on aspects of Madame Couture’s personality in an attempt to be more accepted in Hytopia
he’s still a total diva btw. don’t let the self esteem issues fool you he knows he looks good now
he’s also probably one of the nicer Links, even if he might slip up and call ur gloves tacky on accident every once in a while
if he tries to help someone outfit wise it’s just because he really cares and wants them to be respected, not because he thinks he’s better than them
gets frustrated really easily and quits what he’s doing only to come back ten minutes later and try again
emotions wise he’s sort of all over the place, very theatrical (both because of Ravio and all of Hytopia)
Hytopia made him realize he wasn’t cis or straight. he doesn’t know if he wants to be with Madame Couture’s apprentice or Princess Styla, or if he wants to be them.
yes princess styla was part of my gay awakening leave me alone
if i do go through with this i’d def want to explore this link’s dynamic with both Ravio and botw link. ravio because the constant praises would be such a contrast to the critiquing of Hytopia, and botw link because gender
Cadence of Hyrule:
k i’m not gonna lie i don’t know this one too well But i really wanted to include it. idc if it’s not canon. fuck you.
LITTLE BARD BOY. BABY.
gets so upset with himself when he misses a beat. like unreasonably so.
hums a lot !!
in the linkverse i like the idea of him being like 10 and adoring oot/mm link because of the ocarina. despite how much he fumbles, i think coh link would love him and think he’s so cool. imagine a little kid admiring their older sibling even if the older sib is lame as hell
k that’s it for coh link lmao sorry it’s so short. i love him i do i’m just new to the game
Breath of The Wild:
dlc is canon idc what nintendo says. the zelda encyclopedia said the timeline is up to my imagination and i’m imagining very intently.
relatively calm and peaceful aside from the bursts of extreme anxiety and sadness
will sit for hours and listen to Kass
rlly wants to be great pals with Sidon (and they are, to an extent) but gets a little overwhelmed by all of the compliments and praise
he will fight anyone who insults him though (looking at you, traveler who called him creepy. fuck you.)
literally just wants to be some guy, and to an extent he is (to the townspeople at least). he’s just some rlly skilled fighter who likes to cook and is kind of quiet and odd to them. but hey he’s really helpful and is always looking for something to do
loves Kakariko village!! he’s basically Cottla and Koko’s older sibling and is trying to get Paya to be more relaxed.
speaking of Paya, their dynamic is a bit weird? there’s definitely something there, but at that moment neither of them are ready for any kind of relationship
loves the great fairies, thinks they’re so pretty and nice we’re ignoring the weird cutscenes. i hate them.
the one hit obliterator quest was a one of the most anxiety inducing things in his life and he hated it. as soon as it was over they just laid facedown in the dirt for a while
is a horse girl
Teba became their father figure but neither of them will ever admit that
head over heals for his Zelda. thinks she’s so sweet and smart and just wants to make sure she’s okay
while Gerudo Town was definitely the place he realized he wasn’t cis, he always had the thought in the back of their mind, and even though Bozai really creeped him out, that’s what solidified the non-cis realization
i love the genderfluid botw link headcanon can u tell
loves all of the champion’s descendants so much. they visit them whenever they’re in town.
feels so guilty about burning things. like yes he can and will do it but he’ll be upset about it. he tries to protect the environment ok?
koroks 🤝 botw link
pondering the idea of him being kind of non human and a little magic because of the Sheika tub. if so he’d be even closer with the koroks because they have some connection to sheika magic i think (korok seeds = inventory expansion and all that stuff)
LOVES PURAH. THEY’RE BESTIES. they have dinner together and link’s her lil test subject <3
he needs his map. he is lost without it. he’ll happily be lost don’t get me wrong but he will take 10 extra hours to get somewhere
oh also ADHD incarnate. cannot stay focused for shit.
if i actually do this they’d be besties with tfh link. fashion and genderqueer buddies.
OKAY SO THATS IT FOR NOW !! special thank you to @astral-catastrophe for encouraging me to do this, it’s actually so fun to think about !
ignore how halfway through i actually started developing characters and then got tired and stopped. shh. don’t worry abt that.

No because imagine the reader who knows how to do Dice stacking.
( you could search videos about it )
It'll be fun to see the reader go like:
"I have a really cool talent, it's called Dice Stacking"
And then proceeds to baffle the Links with that.
It'll be hilarious i promise.
Okay gonna be honest, when I first read this the only thought that went through my mind is Reader teaming up with Ravio to make BANK.
like him and Reader just go to the Hyrule version of Vagas and scam the crap out of people.
Reader just sets up booths in towns and eggs people on to get them to come over and play. The rules? Try to replicate what Reader does.
Starts off simple, Reader sets down and single dice and covers it up with a cup. They slide the cup off the table, do a quick turn of their wrist and catch the dice before it falls to the ground.
But then it progresses. Next phase Reader does the same set up but this time they swirl the cup around and pick it up, keeping the dice up in the air by the momentum.
And then they bring out more dice and perform the dice stacking trick. By this time Reader has driven people insane because HOW THE HELL ARE THEY DOING THIS!!!
But Reader isn’t done yet, oh no, they’re bringing out the big guns.
They’ll look the person they’re up against directly in the eye and just say “Now I’m going to make it so every single 1 side of the dice faces you.”
AND THEY DO IT AND EVERYONE LOSES THEIR SHIT!
Now what are the Chain doing at this time, besides being baffled and in awe at Reader’s amazing-ness?
They’re Reader bodyguards.
Someone starts acting up, being too much of a sore loser? They’re never seen again, just like the money they lost to Reader.
Someone tries to cheat? They get off with a tense warning, they do it again though? The Chain ain’t happy.
You don’t get to try and trick their darling a second time.
Of course members of the chain (Wild and Wind) beg Reader to teach them their tricks.
Legend’s cackling with Reader about tricking rude people out of their money.
Time and Warrior, whilst happy that Reader is enjoying themselves, are happy that they’re getting a steady income of rupees to buy weapons/ingredients/potions with.
Hyrule and Four are a little skeptical and ask Reader straight up if they’re using some form of magic or getting help from the Picori/fairies.
Sky attempts to do what Reader does with a good heart. He really just wants to spend time with Reader and hear them laugh when he fails spectacularly.
I also feel like Twilight, Legend, and Sky are bringing people that they had a hard time completing their mini games to Reader to put them against Reader.
(Listen I have a personal vendetta against those two sections in Skyward Sword against that clown dude mini game and that other dude who was doing the mine cart mini game).
Reader, being as awesome as they are, absolutely decimates these people to the Links’ delight.
And this little talent of Reader’s just makes the Chain fall even deeper in love with them.

Rank the LU boys 1 to 9 with reasons
Oh gosh okay
*deep breath*
Here we go
Time. This one’s no surprise to anyone I’m sure XD. I loved the Hero of Time before I even got into LU. His tragic tale struck me as so interesting and heart wrenching. Getting into LU pretty much sealed the deal. He’s just such a great character. He’s through so much yet he’s still kind and tries to be the best leader he can be. I mean, this is the guy who stuck around after his death to train his ancestor cause he felt bad about leaving Hyrule without a hero (and also because he regretted being forgotten. HELLO ANGST). Plus, he’s a major gremlin imo. Just a hidden one lol
Warriors. The captain was actually the Link who got me interested in LU. I read @skyward-floored ‘s fic “Up in Arms” and fell in love with him. I’m naturally attracted to snarky, confident characters with a traumatic backstory and secret soft side (Flynn Ryder was my high school crush if that tells you anything XD) so it was kinda a given I’d love this guy lol. I’ll admit my first read through of LU was mainly me fangirling over him and analyzing his every appearance. (Not that that’s changed much).
Legend. He’s tied with Warriors for second tbh. But since I’ve gotta list them all out I’ll just place him in third. I hadn’t played any of Legend’s games when I got into LU but right after getting attached to Warriors, I got attached to him. Largely because to me he’s extremely relatable. He’s also multilayered in the best way. A soft sweetheart beneath all that snark he tries to hide behind.
Sky. I love Sky for pretty much the same reason as Legend. He’s relatable. Very much so XD. And also more complex than I think he often gets credit for. Beneath the calm, sleepy nice guy demeanor he’s got going on is a fierce warrior who’s been to hell and back for the person he loves. And would do it all again. He fought a GOD for goodness sake! He’s freaking awesome!! Also, Skyward Sword is my favorite Loz game so there’s that too. Plus, him and Sun? Chef’s kiss. Couple goals
Twilight. The older sibling thing endears him to me a lot. He carries a large burden and always has. Plus, his love for animals, gentle heart, and the way he brought down Midna’s walls with his kindness just makes me love him. Who can’t like a guy who rambles about Ordon goats and carries kittens like babies??
Wild. He is widely liked so for me that puts him farther down the list just because I kinda get tired of seeing endless content for him lol. But still. I love him very much. I mean, wild child with a traumatic past, memory issues, a mischievous and snarky side no one sees coming and a fierce love for his friends? YES PLEASE. Also he has long hair.
Four. Since I came into the fandom right around the time when that comic was posted I’ve always been a bit hesitant to write him. But he’s grown on me a lot lately. I actually had fun torturing him for whumptober XD He’s got an intriguing personality and I hope to see more of him in future LU updates.
Wind. I love this little dude A LOT. But I’ve never truly been able to get super invested in characters who are canonically much younger than me. Plus he is just SO HARD for me to write. So while I find his personality adorable and his dynamic with the other Links great, I can’t help putting him farther down on the list.
Hyrule. I like him, really I do. But I just can’t get as invested in him and his story as much as the other Links. I’m not sure why tbh

I saw you post on seasons 1 through 4 of Dr. Who and I wanted to know more about your accidentally Christian pile. What are some other works do think unintentionally emphasized Christian doctrines or morals?
Ooooooh, really good question!!
So the first thing that comes to mind here is Marvel’s Agents of Shield--each season has it's own story arc and themes, so it's hard to pin down just one thing here, so I'll just talk about a few. I'll talk about the obvious one first: Season 3 in particular has a lot of Christian imagery (though in this case, it's definitely on purpose). You see a flash-forward of a cross necklace at the beginning of the season floating in a spaceship in space right before it blows up, and then you watch as that necklace get passed around from person to person, knowing that whoever ends up with it at the end of the season is going to die. I won't spoil anything more, other than to say that it results in quite a bit of Christ/crucifixion imagery and themes.
Other than this, there's a lot about the redemptive power of love (Fitzsimmons my beloved), individual guilt and how to handle it, how to let go of shame, the inevitable defeat of evil--I know there's more, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head. (AOS girlies/gents, feel free to chime in!) Additionally, one of the main characters explicitly a Christian, and while he's not portrayed perfectly, he's never ridiculed for it by the other characters or the narrative, which is a breath of fresh air. There are of course some things I don't approve of (prepare to have your skip button ready once or twice in the earlier seasons), but it's still a fantastic show, and by far the best show Marvel has ever come out with.
Harry Potter’s a pretty obvious one—Harry has to sacrifice himself and be fully willing to die to kill Voldemort, the fight with the basilisk in Chamber of Secrets has some Biblical parallels—but I’m fairly certain that these themes were deliberate, so I suppose they don’t really count. But they do to me, so 😂
Star Wars is another big one for me—of course, a la George Lucas’s original vision, SW is much more directly influenced by Buddhism, but I find that it often can’t help dipping into Christian themes. I find this is especially true with anything that has Dave Filoni’s name attached, likely because he in turn is pretty influenced by Tolkien and Lewis (Ahsoka is meant to parallel Gandalf, the World Between Worlds in Rebels was inspired by The Magician’s Nephew’s Wood Between Worlds, etc). Mandalorian season 3 in particular blew me away—baptism! Redemption! Rebirth! Mandalorian denominations/sects! Seriously, I was expecting them to come down hard on the strange rules that sect holds themselves to and for Mando to completely reject them—but they didn’t?? It was SO fascinating.
Kingdom Hearts is probably one of my favorite demonstrations of John 15:13: “greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Otherwise, I can’t really think of any super prevalent Christian themes I noticed, but that one is just so strong and so important to the themes of the series, I couldn’t not mention it.
Final Fantasy XV has something similar going for it—although what I’m going to say has MAJOR spoilers, so if don’t want to be spoiled, go ahead and skip this (and play the game because it’s great—but Noctis having to willingly sacrifice himself by sitting on a throne in order to purify his kingdom is as blatant as you get. For crying out loud, he’s called the One True King. However this only holds true for the base game—the dlc’s (except for Episode Prompto, but that’s just because it doesn’t really apply to that plotline, also it’s incredible) and the novel in my opinion kind of ruin it.
Legend of Zelda is an interesting one, because it is of course heavily inspired by Shinto, but a few Christian themes sort of snuck their way in there. In Skyward Sword (oh and spoilers for Skyward Sword). Hylia, though certainly not meant to be a direct Christ figure, chooses to be reborn as a Hylian (basically a human) in order to save her people. The difference here is that Zelda does not know that she’s Hylia, and she never regains her goddess status (at least presumably until she dies of old age), but it’s an interesting parallel nonetheless. Also, there’s a famously creepy cutscene in Twilight Princess where we get the story of how the Twili were banished from Hyrule for dabbling in dark magic, and the sequence has always reminded me of the Fall.
Those were just a few that I thought of off the top of my head—I’m sure there are more, but that’s all that’s coming to me at the moment 😂
