Drives like Crazy
So, humans have this thing where they underestimate risks that are long term, and overestimate risks that are short term. Since we come from such a dangerous world, it kind of makes sense. In the deep recesses of the past, if you were overly wary about that bear over there, you were more likely to survive. But eating healthy all life long to avoid heart disease? That's a problem for Tomorrow Me.
It could be that Xenos that come from less dangerous words have a different view of risk than we do, and would be... concerned by the things that we do all the time because we underestimate their risk.
****
"Set helm to manual, I have control." Jesse's voice was smooth and confident as she sat forward in the leatherette upholstered seat on the command deck. A joystick and a panel with buttons rose out of the floor as foot pedals rose up to meet her booted feet.
"Captain, I would like to register a concern." Unity said. They were the transport freighter that Jesse was now controlling, and they were clearly against this.
"Your concern is registered and noted" Jessie didn't stop setting up the controls. "But as you are aware, manual controls must be tested and verified working quarterly."
Mer'ally, the chief engineer, and unofficial voice of the K'laxi crew onboard Unity turned from her station and looked at Jesse. "I mean, Unity has a point. While we do have to test the manual control system, we don't have to test it while coming to dock at Hyacinth during one of the busiest times of the year."
Jesse's smile was thin and strained. "Once again, your concern has been noted." Jesse's eyes flicked up to the K'laxi staring at her. Mer'ally was unusually tall for a K'laxi, she was nearly Jesse's height. Her reddish orange fur complimented her large green eyes. With her large expressive ears flicking as she spoke her worries, Jesse couldn't help wonder why she was so distracted by her. She shook her head slightly. "Regardless. We have to test manual controls, and I want to practice docking with Hyacinth. We need to know how to pilot Unity in all situations, including docking."
Unity sighed. They weren't going to be able to talk her out of this. "As you wish, Captain, relinquishing control."
Jesse harumphed and got back to work. She ran the joystick in all directions, and everyone felt the ship wiggle in response. With a satisfied nod, Jesse adjusted the inertial compensators down a touch. She wanted to be able to feel the ship move, but not enough to get people motion sick. She nodded in satisfaction and looked up at the other people with her.
"Yen. Please request docking with Hyacinth."
"Aye Captain." Yen bustled at her station. Jesse wondered how she lucked out that all the officers on the command deck today were women, and once again had to push that thought out of her mind. She was on duty now.
After a moment Yen called out. "Docking approved. We're clear to dock on the lower ring, bay 33."
"Bay 33 aye." Jesse punched in the location on her control screen, and her vision was overlayed with the best path to the dock. She'll have to match rotation with Hyacinth, but since it's so large, they shouldn't have to go too fast. She goosed the thrusters and Unity started moving forward.
As they trundled towards bay 33, Jesse put Unity's controls through their paces. She gently rolled the ship to make sure the maneuvering thrusters worked correctly, she tumbled it end-over-end and she yawed it in place all the way around. It was actually a lot of fun. She could imagine the looks the other ships gave as Unity spun and pirouetted in place as it moved slowly towards their docking bay, but Jesse didn't care. Maybe she wanted to show off.
As the last maneuver finished, Jesse spun Unity such that with a few puffs from the main drive they'd match rotation with Hyacinth and being docking. Right before she fired the main drive, her console squawked.
"Collision imminent! Collision imminent! CHANGE DIRECTION NOW"
"What?" Jesse pulled hard on the joystick, and the front thrusters fired, sending the noise high while also stopping their forward momentum. With the compensators set low, everyone lurched forward in their seats. In the distance, Jesse heard a crash as something tipped over.
Unity called out. "Captain! There's a Starjumper that's thrusting away from Hyacinth without getting departure permission. Hyacinth is firing on it, and it's coming this way!"
"Why would they be shooting at a Starjumper?" Mer'ally's tail flicked. "Did they skip out on their docking fee?"
"Doesn't matter why right now." Yen didn't move her head from her console. "Comms are screaming with people yelling at them. They're not responding to anyone. They're on the run."
Jesse's screen was filled with the sight of one of the gigantic old interstellar starships bearing down on them. Orange lights of the tracers from the slug launchers oh Hyacinth were zipping past them. She felt ice in her veins as she realized that the Starjumper was going to hit them unless she did something drastic. An instant later, the collision alarm screamed loud again in the ship.
Jesse toggled ship-wide comms. "Juke charges! Brace for shock!" She fired the juke charges; small emergency explosives fired out of Unity and immediately exploded with their characteristic double boom. The area around the juke charge launchers were reinforced and bowl shaped to catch as much of the energy from the explosion as possible. The blast pushed the ship away with a lurch just as the Starjumper and slugs from Hyacinth passed where they were not a second ago.
"Hold tight everyone, I'm going get us away from here" Jesse's hands and feet danced over the panel as she increased power and started to thrust away. With the compensators still turned down, everyone felt the sickening drop as Unity dove and spun and turned as they were trying to get away from the attack.
"Jesse! You're too close to that ship!" Unity didn't even bother to call her Captain. Jesse saw the ship that Unity mentioned almost too late. She came hard on the portside thrusters and everyone held their breath as they glided by the ship.
"You were close enough to scorch their paint Jes-Captain." Mer'ally sighed in relief and grinned.
"The important thing is we missed, Mer." Jesse looked up and flashed a smile and a wink. Mer'ally quickly turned back to her station, but not before a ripple of fur went down her body, a K'laxi blush.
Unity sounded testy. "Captain. The danger has passed and you have more than proven your piloting ability as well as the function of the manual controls. Can I please have the helm?"
Jesse leaned back from her station and stretched. She was concentrating so hard it felt like no time at all had passed. "All right Unity. I release the helm. You have control."
"Aye Captain. Resuming docking with Hyacinth."
Now all Jesse had to do was wait for docking to complete and stress about whether she could ask Mer'ally out on a date. Unity was a civilian ship and they all worked for Houndstooth, one of the major Sol based corporations, so it wasn't like they had to worry about a higher ranked officer hitting on a lower ranked one, but Jesse still worried. She might say no. It was going to be a long wait to dock.

maxiel 15?
15. things you said with too many miles between us
“Uhh, yeah, hold on Daniel.”
Max’s phone is lying on the couch face up, tinny noises playing out of its speakers as he mashes furiously at the buttons on his playstation controller.
“Is your little-“ Max can hear him half-laughing, a crunch of static, “footy game not going well.”
“Actually,” he makes a face, drawing his knees up into his chest and curling his toes as- “I have just scored a goal!”
The sound of clapping from the phone.
“Nice one Max, didn’t expect anything less from a champion.”
He can imagine Daniel’s face right now, smiling and kind of indulgent, the way he gets when he doesn’t really knows what’s going on but he’s happy to be there.
Daniel is remarkably bad at games. It’s like, the controllers have an aversion to his hands, or that his hands have an aversion to them. Max has been confused about this every single time they’ve tried to play something together. ‘It’s just like the wheel but different’ is a sentence he’s said too many times to count.
Daniel always argues back that it’s nothing like the wheel because he knows what those buttons do and people tell him what they want him to push half the time.
The lobby is loading again, waiting for a match.
“How has your day been?”
It’s late, for Daniel, all the way on the other side of the world.
Max hears him sigh.
“It’s been pretty good,” there’s a shuffling noise, like he’s moving around in bed, “Michelle came over, cause they’ve been away on their school holidays for ages, big trip to the Gold Coast.”
Max whistles, wiggles the joysticks around absentmindedly, fits his thumb into the groove. The circle on the screen goes around, and around.
They’re used to this routine, of Daniel being gone; it doesn’t hurt Max, he wants him to see his family. He hasn’t seen them enough over the years, if anything. Now that he has the freedom too, he should enjoy it. It’s only that if Max does miss him while he’s gone, that’s neither here nor there.
He has to remind himself anyway, that if he misses Daniel, then he must miss him back. He’s the one that calls most of the time anyway, although, that might be more about how he hates to text.
“Did they have fun?”
“Oh yeah, heaps, Isabella couldn’t stop talking about uh,” he pauses, “this like, one slide they went on at the Wet’n’Wild.”
“Ah, that’s cute.”
Max readjusts on the couch and picks his phone back up. They’ve been calling for about two hours now, the screen tells him, before he swipes it away to get into his apps.
It’s idle chat as Daniel gets ready for bed. He can hear him brushing his teeth, asks a question on purpose to hear him say it funny around the brush and then laugh, honking more when Daniel splutters and gets faux-annoyed.
“Are you going to sleep?”
Daniel’s yawned about three times in the last 10 minutes. Max wonders if it actually is very embarrassing to get a little warm feeling in his chest about that.
He scores a goal and tilts backwards into the couch, grinning.
“Yeah, probably,” a click, like his phone’s been set down somewhere hard, “you’re gaming, yeah?”
“It’s just the morning here now, so-“ he bites back a curse as the other team dodges past his defenders, “-I’ll be working out later, Brad has this new routine he wants me to try. Of course, I think that it will be the same as all of the rest of them but, you know.”
“Okay then,” Daniel yawns, again.
“Go to sleep, old man.”
“Yeah, yeah,” a pause, “love you Maxy. Have a good day, or, whatever.”
“Love you too.” He tries to sound cool and nonchalant, but his thumbs jerk where they were pushing at the joysticks, “goodnight.”

The game over screen flashed on the game Ito had previously been playing. It was actually a bit of a comfort to know that arcades here weren't too far off from what he'd enjoyed back home. Digital Nights actually had plenty of things he was familiar with - UFO catchers, racing, games of chance, luck, skill, platformers, rhythm... The options felt almost endless.
Ito checked briefly to make sure that nothing had fallen out of his pockets or was left behind before he went on to another game. He had intended to go to one of the rhythm and dance games, but...
That was when he saw something that gave him pause. A man in a suit bent over a crane game, fiddling with the joystick. The guy looked out of place among the younger crowd. Dressed like that, he appeared more suited for some upscale restaurant or a business meeting. Definitely not a mall arcade, surrounded by kids, older teenagers, and 20-something's.
He watched the man fail once.
Twice.
Slowly he wandered over.
He put several tokens into the slot for the game right next to the man. "I know there's a timer, but you don't want to move the stick too much, otherwise you'll overshoot. The controls are always really sensitive."
Ito wouldn't say it outright but he'd try to help. It was kind of sad to watch the man keep wasting his coins. - He pressed the button and the claw lowered. It snagged the thin chocolate box around the center. The box teetered as the claw rose and began to move. However, it didn't fall or slip.
He retrieved the box from the slot at the bottom. "See?" He couldn't quite stop himself from snickering just a little. "But what does おじいさん (the old man) want with a stuffed doll?"

If you’re wanting some MM prompts…I’ve got the best one 👀
“Which one do I hit?!”
Little drabbles with less than 1k words is my goal for these March Madness prompts, and that's hard to do for me! 😂😂😂 So, small snapshots of scenes from various AUs, and this one is from one you can appreciate. (Bookbinder//Songwriter, huehuehuehue)

Each day was different. A routine had been set and while sometimes that routine needed to be jostled around and tweaked for the unexpected, Bilbo was excited for it. For instance, every Sunday evening was dedicated to cooking together (but more importantly, teaching Thorin how to cook anything at all without burning the place to the ground) and enjoying a movie or catching up on shows. Mondays and Wednesdays were dedicated to band practice, and sometimes Fridays and Saturdays for gigs, and then you had Tuesday for Bilbo’s newfound book club–which Thorin insisted on attending. So that left Thursdays for a little them time.
Or ‘Game Night’ as Bilbo had offered up.
Now, going into the idea of ‘game night’, it didn't revolve around sports, but actual games, whether of the board variety or electronic. Sometimes they had guests over for cards or board games, whether it was Dis and the boys, or some of Thorin’s bandmates. But sometimes it was nice to keep things quiet for just the two of them, and if Thorin or Bilbo were feeling particularly impish…well, playing with one another made something of a game…didn’t it?
Today’s idea of game night had been simple. They’d ordered takeout, plopped onto the sofa, and well, in Bilbo’s case, he was currently watching Thorin struggle with a controller in his hands. The poor guy was hunched over, his fingers moving along the buttons and joysticks with no real idea of what he was doing, and the way his face was scrunched up nearly had Bilbo in a fit of tears.
“Which one do I hit!?” Thorin barked, annoyed from here to kingdom come.
“The one that’s hitting you!” Bilbo shouted with a laugh infiltrating his voice as he pointed to the screen where poor Thorin’s character was being massacred by a giant, a bear, and some lone soldiers along a cobblestone road. “This is why you don’t aggro everything you see–”
“They aggroed me first!”
The sound of a growl from the television had Thorin shrieking, and as Bilbo’s eyes caught a glimpse of the agitation, as well as the panic settling in, his lips kept twitching in amusement. Right until that sound he had heard tonight time and time again rang from the television. There went Thorin’s character sailing into the sky after having been launched by a giant’s club like a very epic game of golf.
Luckily, Bilbo was quick to jut his hands out to clasp over Thorin’s before an expensive controller could be thrown. “Let’s…not do that.”
“I hate this fucking game. I’m no good at it!” Thorin lamented as he let Bilbo take the game controller from him before slouching into the sofa in as dramatic of a display as ever. His hands rubbed at his eyes and an annoyed groan escaped his lips. “When you suggested game night, I thought you meant something like…checkers.”
“Wow, and they say I’m the boring one,” Bilbo sighed with a roll of his eyes. “Just give it some time, you’ll get the hang of it if you really want to.” All it took was practice, just like everything else in life. “If you can learn to play the guitar as well as you do, you can learn to play a few video games, and not suck, I promise.” Leaning back and against Thorin’s side, nuzzling up beneath the dramatic musician’s chin, Bilbo gently plopped that controller onto his boyfriend’s stomach before glancing upward to catch a bit of Thorin out of the corners of his eyes. “We can play a different game? One with less shouting, both in game and on the sofa?”
“No, no, I’m going to get it,” Thorin huffed, partially annoyed, but some of that moodiness about him had been quelled by the close snuggling that came his way. “When do I get to fight a dragon?”
“After you learn basic controls, and stop poking giants…and bears…and random NPCs–” Poked right in the belly, Bilbo gave an involuntary squeak before his eyes flashed somewhat dangerously at Thorin’s cheeky face. “On second thought, go poke all of them and leave me out of this.”
It was Bilbo’s annoyed little sigh that truly sent Thorin chuckling. Sometimes it was easier to tease than to be teased, wasn’t it? Cocking an eyebrow at the glare he was still receiving, he had determined then and there to give this game night thing another try, even if it meant being launched into the virtual sky by an angry giant. “When we’re done here tonight, I’m going to be the greatest Dragonborn to ever live.” After all, who didn’t love the idea of becoming a world-famous dragon slayer? Even if that reality was saved for the virtual world.
“You are very good at shouting.”
“Only when I’m with you, of course,” Thorin teased, a rise and fall of his brows before being smacked in the chest as another exasperated sigh left his boyfriend at the implication, but if he wasn’t mistaken, the corners of Bilbo’s lips were turned upward. Not that he had ever been truly annoyed. “Alright–” sitting forward, shoving another forkful of food into his mouth, Thorin returned to his hunched over state of concentration, “–now, walk me through this again?”
With a little patience (on both of their parts) and determination, game night would become a success. No checkers necessary!

i saw a post about how the watches aren't actually matching in canon so instead of being heartbroken by the realization I'm making a ficlet about if they actually got matching watches (this ended up being a part one lets see if i can do multiple parts!)
Enjoy! and happy belated mike day!
origins of the matching watches
Mike was having his ideal birthday. A day at the arcade with his best friend Will. Hopping from machine to machine, endless choices in front of them to spend their Saturday.
Will stops before the claw machine, rotating rainbow lights bouncing off his cheeks.
Mike followed Wills' eyes. In a plastic pod, framed by mini stuffed animals, was a bright yellow plastic watch. Will started immediately digging around for quarters, pulling one out and slipping it into the machine.
Will's hands fall over the controls, fingers beginning to dance across the buttons. Mike barely hide his staring at his best friends hands, the ones that created drawings of spaceships and other creations of their collective imaginations. He barely noticed when the machine buzzed GAME OVER.
Will's eyebrows creased together as he slipped in one quarter after another, and concentration returns to his face. Mike looks down at Will's tongue unconsciously poking through his bunny teeth and hears the claw descend around the watch's pod right before the buzzer goes off. The plastic pod slips through the claw's hold and Will's shoulders sink, face falling.
How dare the game not deliver the prize Will wanted?? it was Mike's Birthday
"Dang it, that was my last quarter."
Mike caught Will's gaze, looking up at him with kicked puppy eyes.
Sometimes Mike's eyes do this weird thing. The edges of his vision blur and wherever Will is, typically in the center, is sharpest. Mike's eyes broke the spell by moving down to the floor before falling back on Will.
Mike feels his hands immediately start fishing around in his pocket for more, pulling a few out. It made Mike sad to see Will upset(and it was illegal for Will to be upset on his birthday).
"Can I try?" Mike approaches the machine and slips a quarter in, it was his mission to win Will that watch. Mike zoned in on his target and gripped the joystick. The last few hours of intense gaming had warmed up his fingers to move the claw with ease.
Mike felt a surge of determination went he caught his best friend's hazel gaze. Will's eyes fall on the claw, never breaking contact as it steadily lurches towards the watch.
The claw widens and drops down, closing its grasp around the pod. The friends stare as the watch rises above the remaining stuffed animals, closer and closer to the exit chute. Mike feels the artist's hands squeeze around his arm in anticipation.
*plud*
"Mike!! you did it!" Will's bright smile sprouts from the corners of his mouth as his new watch rolls out from behind a clear plastic flap. Mike couldn't help but smile back, bending down to pick up the pod and pop it open.
Mike takes Will's wrist in his hand and wraps the matching yellow strap around and secures it down.
"Do you like it? Does it fit correctly?" Mike searches Will's glowing face for answers.
"Mike are you crazy?? this is the coolest prize in the whole machine!"
Mike feels his cheeks burn with how wide his smile grows. Seeing Will happy made it all worth it.

The Arcade Games Of 1980 #7 - Rally-X
Busy year for Namco games, this was. We've got our second game here that uses the Pac-Man engine, with both games clearly taking from the same concept that Head-On began with. You still need to get through a maze, avoiding enemies and collecting items.
This time however, the mazes are pretty gigantic, and they actually change their design and color as you get further in the game. Pretty cool precursor to how Ms. Pac-Man varied things up too- too bad you're never actually gonna see the latter 2 stages in a legit manner.
Oh my *god*. Rally-X is absolutely brutal with it's difficulty, from the very beginning you're being chased by red cars that constantly attempt to crash into you by turning at inopportune times, or thinking three steps ahead and taking the right corners so you get trapped. The game starts with 3 cars chasing ya, but that gradually increases to a whopping eight by the game's peak difficulty, which you reach pretty early if you compare it to how many stages the game has before it loops, that being 15.
It would've been a fair challenge, at least in the first half, if the controls didn't suck SO badly. Take Pac-Man's issues with wrong inputs and turn them up to 11. I've missed so many corners or turned one when I didn't want to way too many times to count. I may have criticised the Pacster for being a bit dull early on, but at least it gives you the room to acclimatise and make small errors without it being extremely punishing. Rally-X sometimes straight up glitched me into a wall because I pushed a button too early!
Ugh. Look. This game is well made in many ways. You'll see soon enough that I actually like a lot of aspects of the game and those compare to it's more succesful cousin equally or even favorably. It sucks that it's borderline unplayable nowadays without building up a stash of broken controllers and joysticks, as it's otherwise got the Namco seal of quality stamped on it.
The Verdict
Graphics (8): Don't be mistaken, the slightly lacking personality due to a lack of personable ghosts is pretty much the only nitpick one could argue over. Rally-X's got a lot of meat on it's bones. We've got our first non-racing game that has smooth horizontal and vertical scrolling, for example, as well as introducing a map of sorts on the right of the screen so you can seek out the final flags and enemies pretty handily. That's incredibly innovative! Even though the cars and the mazes themselves look pretty flat, they are beyond acceptable and the cars can spin around smoothly, a subtle yet nice addition.
Sound (8): So for the majority of gameplay time, you're not gonna be enjoying the sounds that much. You got a subtle rumbly tune playing in the background that loops after a very short time and the engine noise isn't gonna wow anyone over who's already played many a racing game before, neither is the crashing sound. Then come the loud jingles and THAT'S where the fun quirks come into play. They got a very similar vibe to Pac-Man's ditties and those were ace, and so are these. It even seems to be the first game I played that actually has a jingle for when you win a level! Thank f*ck. The rest of these are just as good, the game manages to get you in a cheery mood prior to having that smile wiped off of your face.
Fun Factor (4): Nnnnnnooooooo. As i've explained before, the game's difficulty is so ridiculous and the controls so poor, that most players actually attempting to get good at Rally-X have flocked to it's much more forgiving sequel. In fact, i'd recommend playing New Rally-X first and THEN come back to see if you're up to the challenge of this son of a bitch. Man, how unfortunate, this could've been a proper classic if I didn't hate putting myself through the motions for almost a month straight and never getting past stage 6 without using save states.
Oh! The 'charaging' (challenging) stages. Those are boring. You just drive around at double speed without any of the rival cars to sour your day. Quite the opposite to what is supposed to be a challenge, but hey, i'll take it. I still get fucked over due to poor control anyway.
Longevity (8): Oh yeah, this game is looooong. If you're looking to see the full loop, expect to be here forever and ever with 15 stages to traverse. However, I find it a bit disingenous to say that it deserves full marks for swapping the layouts a couple times and calling it a day. The game literally introduces nothing new stage by stage otherwise, outside of one extra car 'till the 8th screen. It's not engaging to keep playing unless you really wanna see what color scheme they come up with next. It's still one of the most expansive games i've played so far obviously, flawed as it is.
Says enough that i'm 13th on the Arcade Archives ranking (undeservedly so since I cheated), while all I did was reach the first stage of the final layout...
In Conclusion

Powerboat Italia ’88 by Robysoft
Post by Luca Jeha Civita
This game is unbelievably simple and effective. It is a speedboat racing game where the only controls you have are switching lanes, jumping, and boosting. What brings this game to life, however, is how these actions are to be performed. Mashing is not only incentivized, but absolutely necessary if one has any desire to come out on top. The faster you mash your buttons, the faster your boat will move. With all your energy focussed on pressing buttons as fast as possible, paying attention to the other parts of the game becomes incredibly difficult. Jumping at the right times; switching lanes to pick up the right power-ups. Had the movement mechanic simply been “press a to accelerate”, it would quickly grow boring.
Concerning the actual physical components of the experience, the controller consisted of one joystick and 3 buttons. Two of the buttons were for mashing/accelerating, and the other for jumping. The joystick was used to switch lanes. The cabinet was chunky, and seemed extremely resistant, which in my mind, allowed me to mash much harder than I normally would. I was practically slapping the cabinet!
Had I been put to reimagine how this cabinet could be reformatted, I would not be able to do it any justice, as it stands gloriously as currently is. However, since I am asked to do so in this blogpost, I could take a shot at it. As I played the game, I kept thinking that the button mashing was meant to emulate rowing on the boats, BUT! As I kept playing, I slowly noticed that the boats were not powered by rowing at all! They were simply gasoline propelled vehicles. It got me thinking about how this game could be a kayak racing game, and the mashing controls could be replaced by something more emulative of the action of rowing. I would love to see what the cabinet could look like if each player got a pair of handles that represented the ends of paddles, and if the action performed was quick spinning of these paddles instead of quick pressing of buttons. Perhaps it would easily break, or not be as chaotic, but it could also net some interesting results with players being forced to conduct a wider range of motion.
On another note, there were a few elements of the game that I could not experience fully due to the circumstances of the venue. There was a DJ set happening at the time, so none of the audio from the game came through. Also, the music was loud to the point that even hearing our own mash was difficult — which I imagine could be an integral part of the experience in the event that you’d want to keep track of how hard your opponents are mashing.
The setting did not solely detract from the experience though. Dare I say it most likely was one of the most essential parts of it! The chaos of a dimly lit bar with DJ sets, and a great amount of alcohol surmounted to an explosion of life from the players playing alongside me (myself included). We were careless, reckless, and free! The lights shone out of the cabinet and immersed us in its magic. Before we knew it, we could almost see the crowds of people cheering us on. Italy came to life as we were teleported back to 1988. Thank you Robysoft for that incredible moment.

The Greatest in the Galaxy Part 17
Gir and Mimi fly Squee over the city, Minimoose and the cam-bot close behind. Squee hangs from their hands, having trouble staying conscious. He’s so out of it, he doesn’t even notice the giant robot grab them out of the sky.
When the elevator opens up in the control room, everyone immediately stops what they’re doing.
“A big brother!” Gir cheers as he flies into the room.
“Don’t touch anything, Gir,” Zim orders.
Squee is sitting on the floor of the elevator, rubbing his pounding his head. He looks up as everyone calls his name.
“Ugh, where are we?” he asks.
“Inside a giant robot,” Pepito replies as he helps Squee to his feet.
“A giant what now?”
“It’s our secret weapon,” Kio states proudly.
“Look at you, you’ll all burnt up again,” Shmoopy tuts. Squee’s arms and legs are covered in laser burns and more scorch marks have been added to the ones he already had.
“I knew that plan was a bad idea,” Pepito says.
“No, the plan was great,” Squee argues, “it was fighting an army of Irken soldiers by myself that was a bad idea.”
“Here, sit down, I’ll fix you up,” Shmoopy demands.
“I’ll be fine,” Squee grunts, “I just need something to eat.”
“Here’s the snack bag,” Dib says as he hands him a knapsack full of various snacks.
“Thanks,” he replies and sits on the bench next to Rory and Nimbel. “Hey, Rory.”
“Hello, Squee,” Rory smiles.
“How are you not dead?” Nimbel asks.
“You have no idea how many times I ask myself that same question,” Squee grunts and shoves a handful of gummy worms into his mouth.
“Alright, pay attention, everyone!” Zim demands and points at the cam-bot. “The whole universe now knows about our secret weapon. And if the Tallest have been paying attention, they’ll know our location. It’s time to begin the plan in earnest.”
“We’re gonna circle around back to the Irken tower and take the fight to them,” he continues. “Squee, you gonna be alright to man the radar?”
“Two minutes,” he replies and chugs an energy drink.
“Everyone else, stay on your toes,” Zim orders, “the Irkens will not go down easy, not matter what kind of weapon we have. And Rory, stay out of the fight. We need you alive.”
“You got it.” Rory salutes.
“Um, what can I do?” Nimbel asks.
“Get the hell out-,” Zim starts to reply.
“You could be useful in the next phase of the plan, which will happen when we get back to the tower,” Kio says.
“Huh, really?” Zim questions, “fine, whatever. Just stay out of the way.”
“Okay, I’m good,” Squee says as he jumps to his feet. “Where’s the radar?”
“Next to Pepito,” Kio replies.
He goes over to the console on the left wall. Pepito is standing before a pair of joysticks and next to that is a radar screen.
“Cool, like a video game,” Squee comments.
“I said that same thing!” Gaz exclaims excitedly.
“Let’s move, team!” Zim demands.
The mech steadily does a 180, stepping over buildings and streets until it’s pointed back the way it came. In the distance, Irken tower stands taller than all the others.
“If you really wanted to anger the Irkens, why didn’t you attack the tower?” Nimbel asks Squee.
“What, like I didn’t fight off enough Irkens today?” Squee scoffs, “even that wasn’t supposed to happen.”
Nimbel flinches angrily. “You didn’t have to save me.”
“You’re welcome.”
She grumbles. “Are all humans as insufferable as you?” “More so, actually,” he grins.
The mech continues on, the tower still a ways away, when Squee sees blips appear on his radar screen. “We got incoming.”
“What direction?” Zim asks.
“Um...eight o’clock? In the sky I think.”
Zim turns the mech’s head so it’s facing a small group of flying Irkens.
“I got ‘em!” Pepito declares. “Finally get to try out this baby.”
He uses the joysticks to aim at the group and presses their buttons. A large laser turret extends out of the mech’s right shoulder and fires a barrage into the Irkens, swiftly destroying them.
“Yeah!” Pepito cheers.
“I get the next ones,” Gaz demands.
“Wish granted,” Squee says, “we got another group at three o’clock.”
Zim turns the head again to see another group flying at them. Gaz fires her laser turret at them, taking them out.
“They’re not even trying,” she scoffs.
“Those were just scouts,” Rory says, “sent to see what their opponent is capable of.”
“Sent to their deaths?” Dib questions, horrified.
“If it comes to that.”
“There’s more coming, straight ahead,” Squee says.
It’s a larger group this time and they fire their weapons right away. Their lasers bounce right off the mech’s armour though, not even slowing it down. Gaz and Pepito fire their weapons together and annihilate them.
“We got more and they look bigger!” Squee exclaims, “from behind!”
“Dib, keep moving forward,” Zim orders as he turns the head all the around.
“I know,” Dib replies.
Irken cruisers fly at them from behind, firing larger weapons. They still don’t do any damage, but the force of the shots cause the control room to shake slightly. Gaz and Pepito quickly open fire on them and the ships plummet to the ground.
“We got ground forces coming from the front!” Squee announces.
Zim turns the head back around and looks down. Large tanks approach from down the street and park a few yards away before firing missiles. They explode and knock the mech back a bit.
“Keep it steady, Dib!” Tak snaps as everyone tries to keep their footing.
“I got it!” he snaps back.
Gaz and Pepito fire their turrets at the tanks but the lasers aren’t strong enough to destroy them.
“We need something bigger,” Gaz growls and pushes a button. Her turret retracts and is quickly replaced by a plasma cannon. It fires large beams that blasts the cannons away.
“Hey, leave some for me,” Pepito whines as he pulls up his cannon.
“Oh, there’ll be plenty,” Squee says, “we got more ships incoming from three o’clock.”
Zim quickly turns the head to zero in on the approaching ships and Gaz quickly fires her turret at them.
“More at nine o’clock...uh and six o’clock...twelve o’clock...they’re surrounding us!” Squee shouts.
“There’s too many!” Pepito exclaims as he and Gaz struggle to shoot them all, the mech now being rocked back and forth from everyone shooting it.
“I got an idea!” Kio says, “Dib, plant your feet!”
Dib grips his joysticks and plants the mech’s feet, keeping it still.
“Tak, stick both arms out the sides!” Kio orders. Tak quickly does so, knocking away any nearby ships.
“Now, everyone, hold on!” Kio shouts and spins her wheel. The torso spins around at high speed, the arms smacking away all of the ships. Kio grips the wheel, stopping it abruptly. Everyone leans against their consoles, dizzy and dazed.
“Heh, what a ride,” Pepito comments.
“Um, we got more tanks incoming,” Squee warns as he struggles to stop his vision from spinning. “Ahead and from both sides.”
“Dib, charge to the tower!” Zim orders.
“Got it,” he replies and pushes harder on his joysticks. The mech starts running and stomps through the oncoming tanks as it heads straight for the tower.
It gets there quickly before anymore Irkens can attack and skids to a stop just outside its yard. Irken guards stand ready for a fight, but Dib quickly kicks them out of the way.
“Okay, Dib, Pepito, you two get inside and start part two of the plan,” Zim orders. “According to Rory, the dungeon is located in the basement.”
“The front door is the most direct but the most dangerous,” Rory adds.
“Don’t worry, we got it,” Dib replies as he and Pepito head for the elevator.
“Come on, Nimbel,” Pepito says.
“Wh-what are we doing?” she asks.
He smiles. “Prison break.”
She blinks with surprise as the three of them ride the elevator down the mech’s foot. Meanwhile, Zim and the others remain in the control room with the cam-bot.
“With Dib and Pepito gone, we’ve lost foot control and one of our weapons,” he says, “Squee, you’ll have to work it until Pepito comes back.”
“Fine,” he grunts as he slides over to the neighbouring console.
An elevator door opens up on the side of the mech’s right foot and Dib cautiously pokes his head out. The street and yard are empty and quiet.
“No reinforcements yet,” he says, “let’s hurry.”
He, Pepito, and Nimbel hurry out farther into the yard, stopping about halfway to the front door. Pepito then kneels down and rubs the ground.
“I sense presences beneath us,” he says and gets back up. “Stand back.”
Dib and Nimbel step back as Pepito’s hands glow black. Then he blasts the ground, creating a large hole into a dark space.
“Going down,” he says as he drops through the hole, Dib and Nimbel following.
They land in a dimly lit, stone corridor. Lining the walls are cells with laser beam bars, and crammed into those cells with barely enough room to breathe are alien civilians. They all immediately start shouting at the sight of the trio.
“Oh, these poor people,” Dib remarks, “crammed in here like sardines.”
“Where’s my family?” Nimbel asks, looking around frantically.
“We’ll find them, just stick with us,” Pepito says.
“Why?”
“Cause of that.” He nods ahead as a group of Irkens guards rush towards them, laser rifles raised.
“Open fire!” the captain orders.
With a wave of his hand, Pepito creates a force field that blocks the laser fire. Then he flicks his fingers and the shield explodes into beams that blast through all the guards.
“There must be a main control panel somewhere,” Dib muses as he examines the cells and points down the hall that the guards came from. “Let’s go.”
They hurry down the long corridor until they see a lit up doorway and burst through it. Against the left wall is a large control console with a couple Irken technicians working at it. They immediately cry out and point small laser guns, but before they can fire, Pepito blasts the weapons from their hands.
“Beat it,” he snarls, pointing to the door.
The Irkens glance at each other before scurrying away.
“Why not kill those two?” Nimbel asks.
“They’re not soldiers,” Pepito replies, “they’re just people trying to do their jobs.”
“So are soldiers,” she points out.
“Well, yeah, but soldiers are a special kind of brainwashed,” he retorts.
Dib types at the console and quickly finds the cell door controls. “Here we go.”
He pushes the button and there’s an electronic warble quickly followed by stampeding footsteps.
“Whoa, whoa!” Pepito exclaims as the giant crowd of alien prisoners spill into the room and surround them, chattering with excited panic.
“Everyone please stay calm!” Dib shouts over the blathering. “We have rescued you and seek your assistance in return! Where are the competition team captains?”
The chattering quiets down to curious whispers as someone steps forward. “Here,” says Olap, captain of the Swif’el team.
“Olap!” Nimbel cries happily, hugging him tight.
“I am glad you are alright, Nimbel,” he sighs with relief. “The others are here too. We’re all mostly unharmed.”
“The other captains,” Dib says, “of Techon-03 and Mus’ular. Are they here?”
“Yes,” Bikeps, the captain of the Mus’ular team says as he steps forward. At his heels is the Techon-03 captain, Wirez.
“Okay,” Dib nods, “the three of you will come with us to speak with our team captain. The rest of you must stay down here for now. You’ll be safer here than outside.”
“What does your captain want?” Wirez asks.
“You’ll have to come with us to find out,” Pepito replies.
The aliens chatter suspiciously amongst themselves until Nimbel squeezes Olap’s arms. “I trust them, Olap. They helped me.”
“And they did free of us,” Wirez shrugs. “I’ll go.”
“Very well,” Olap nods, “I’ll come too.”
“Well, I don’t wanna be left behind,” Bikeps grunts.
“Then follow us through our hole,” Pepito says and addresses the rest of the prisoners, “and don’t hesitate to punch any Irkens that try to recapture you.”
“I won’t,” a Mus’ule replies, cracking his giant knuckles.
The crowd parts so Dib and Pepito and the three team captains can pass. Nimbel stays behind, reuniting with her family.
They all climb out of the hole to find their mech fighting off hoards of attacking Irkens. They keep their heads down to dodge the oncoming laser fire and hurry to the foot.
“Hurry, everyone in the elevator,” Dib orders as he opens the door. It’s a tight squeeze with Bikeps, but they’re all able to squeeze inside and ride up to the control room.
Inside they’re met with yelling as Zim barks attack orders, Tak snaps back, Kio adds helpful advice, Gaz shouts at Squee for missing his shots, and Squee yells apologies. Rory and Shmoopy remain on the bench with all the minions and the cam-bot, Rory grinning with amusement while Shmoopy watches worriedly.
“I got this, babe,” Pepito says as he sidles up to Squee.
“Oh, thank god you guys are back,” he sighs heavily. “I am so bad at shooting.”
Pepito takes control of the weapons and helps Gaz blast away the oncoming Irkens.
“You’ve brought the captains,” Zim observes, “well done. Dib, take over head controls while I speak with them.”
“Got it,” Dib replies as he and Zim switch places.
“What is the meaning of this, Irken?” Olap demands.
“We require your assistance,” Zim says.
Bikeps laughs. “An Irken is asking for help from ‘lower lifeforms’?”
“Believe me, it sickens me to say this,” Zim groans, clutching his chest. “But if anything, it proves that not all Irkens are bad. Right?”
The three aliens grumble.
“We are starting a revolution,” he explains, “we will stop the Irken army and take out the Tallest, replacing them with an objectively better leader.” He motions to Rory, who happily waves. “But for this to work, we need you subjugated races to join us. With your help, we’ll have the numbers to go up against the army and it will be broadcasted across the galaxy, giving other planets hope. You must explain this to your respective teams and convince them to join.”
“Now I know it might seem hopeless, but-.”
“We’ll do it,” Olap states.
Zim blinks with surprise and looks at them as the other two nod agreeably. “Really? I mean, great. I just had this amazing motivational speech in mind to convince you that Irk can be stopped but...”
“We’ve been ready for this for a while,” Bikeps says.
“We’re tired of feeling scared and small all the time,” Wirez adds.
Squee flinches and looks up from the radar. “Huh?”
The three aliens smile at him and he blushes. “Y-you guys...heard that...?”
“Heard what?” Pepito asks.
“All of us Techons carry our own portable screens,” Wirez explains as he removes a small tablet from his utility belt. “We were all watching the competition channel while we were imprisoned.”
“We saw all that you were doing,” Olap adds, “you inspired us.”
Squee’s blush deepens as he glances at the cam-bot staring at him. Suddenly, the weight of the hundreds of thousands of eyes watching him across the galaxy bears down on him and he buries his face into his hands.
“Aw, it’s too bad we weren’t able to watch,” Kio comments.
“Yeah, sounds like Squee took care of that motivational speech for you,” Dib remarks, nudging Zim.
“Guess we know who the team favourite is,” Pepito grins, ruffling Squee’s hair, who’s still hiding in his hands, his blush spread up to his ears.
Zim loudly clears his throat. “Fine. Then it’s onto the final step of our plan.” He points to the team captains. “Assemble your troops and get them out here and ready to fight. It’s time to call out the Tallest.”

Pro Tennis: World Court
My favorite sport on wii sports used to be tennis. Placing the same mii on every position and frantically swinging the remote around was a key moment in my childhood. So, when I saw Pro Tennis: World Court on the internet arcade archive I had to try it. I also really liked the aesthetic of the graphics, with the bright colors of the court and character designs.
The controls are fairly simple. You can move up down left and right and use control to swing your racket. In the game you can choose between a selection of human characters and two robots. Some characters are faster than others. This was the main difference that I saw while trying out different characters. There might have been more differences listed on the selection page, but I couldn't read it since it was in Japanese. I couldn't pinpoint if the robots had any special properties different from the human characters. I only noticed that the yellow robot has the tendency to hit the ball really high. There were also three courts to choose from.
Tumblr media
My experience playing the game started off pretty rough. I had to get used to positioning my player properly so I could get to the ball in time and figure out when to hit the ball. There is a slight delay between pressing the button and actually hitting the ball since the character has to go into the swinging motion. If you time your hit well you'll be able to hit the ball really fast when it's high. Even serving the ball requires decent timing that I haven't figured out yet. Apparently if you miss a serve two times in tennis you lose the point. You learn something new everyday! I tried a strategy of only looking at the shadow of the ball but that didn't work too well. I lost many matches 40-0 without even a fight. I might as well have not even been there since it would be over after one hit. There were rare instances where I could get a short rally going with the cpu, but it would ultimately end up with me messing up and losing.
By some miracle I eventually figured out that hitting the ball while holding a direction key made the ball move in that direction. This realization allowed me to play much (okay, maybe just a little) better. Combined with choosing a faster character and making the cpu the slower one, I was able to win a match here and there. Even if I lost, I didn’t lose as badly as before which is an improvement. I enjoyed the game more when I wasn’t doing so bad.
I would like to try playing on the original console. According to the archive page, the arcade machine used an 8-way joystick and had two buttons you could press. The 8-way joystick would make moving your character diagonally more intuitive. Sure, you can move diagonally if you press both the up and left button together on the emulator, but that just isn't the same. I just want to experience how the game was originally meant to be played.
World Court also has a single player mode and a two player mode. Having the game be emulated has an advantage since it makes playing as two players slightly easier in my opinion. With emulation you really only need 5 keys to control one player and we have 10 fingers. If you map the keys well enough you should be able to control both players simultaneously, although it would take some practice. Trying to control two joysticks and press two buttons well enough to actually be able to play would be a bit harder. It takes more time to move your hand to hit a button than it is to press a key on the keyboard. I played a few two player matches against cpus. I found it fun and it really reminded me of the old days of wii tennis.
Overall, I enjoyed my time playing Pro Tennis World Court. If you want to try the game out yourself, check it out on archive.org https://archive.org/details/arcade_wldcourt

I tried using one of those newer xbox controllers where the dpad really doesn't look like a dpad anymore, and I gotta say... it's actually great and I wish PS5 controllers had that dpad instead of the weird 4 seperate button looking dpad.
Tumblr media
The joysticks being next to each other on the PS5 controller is still better tho, so I'd want an xbox dpad slapped onto the PS5 controller.
It's literally insane that those controllers still require AA batteries, I wonder how much money they get from Duracell to keep it that way. (that was the brand of battery that came with the xbox my brother got)

Kingdom Hearts: The Brightest of Hearts - Chapter 2: Madness and Darkness
Sora couldn't believe it; he was in an actual spaceship! Or a Gummi ship as Donald and Goofy called it. The outside looked very colorful but looked like a bunch of Legos put together. The inside however, was futuristic looking with three seats and an advanced looking keyboard console system in front of the seats. Sora's eyes sparkled at the amazing display of magical technology the ship had.
"Wow! This is awesome! So, this is how we're going to get to different worlds?"
"That's right!" Sora heard a strange high pitch voice behind him and turned around to the front console and saw two chipmunks.
"Wow, uh hi?"
"Why hello! I'm Chip! and this is Dale!"
"And we're your engineers for the last but most reliable Gummi ship in the Multiverse!"
"Cool! So, you guys can... wait, last Gummi ship?"
"Oh, well maybe not THE last but... it might as well be."
"You see, since the Dark Army can use the Void; they don't need Gummi ships, so they decided to destroy all Gummi ships to stop the Guardians of Light."
"Our ancestors used to help the royal family repair and even build Gummi ships like this one and ones that were even bigger! They helped unite worlds across the multiverse without causing chaos, they helped Keyblade Wielders of Light protect worlds at a moment's notice!"
"But when the Dark Army rose to power they destroyed as many Gummi ships as they could... all our ancestors work... gone in such little time." Chip and Dale both looked sad. Sora felt sad as well; like his own home, their entire family tradition was undone. However, instead of moping Sora just huffed in determination, as it was just another reason to stop the Dark Army.
"Well, I feel safe on this ship because I have two of the best Gummi ship engineers in the Multiverse! And when I find Maleficent and the other Keyblade wielders of Darkness I'll show them what happens when they mess with your Gummi ships."
"Aww, thanks Sora!"
"Oh boy, look at us feeling down when we're supposed to be helping your pilot the ship."
"Right! Sora, grab that controller." Sora looked to the front console of the ship and saw what looked like a basic joystick video game controller. Sora then grabbed it and was confused by its simplicity compared to the rest of the Gummi ship.
"Um, ok? now what?"
"Now just keep watch and if you see any Heartless press the button to fire cannons and use the stick to move from side to side."
"Uh... ok but why would I want to move side to side? also what do you mean if I see Heartless? we're going to be in space, why would the Heartless be out here?"
"Well, we're in space right now, but pretty soon we'll be traveling right through the darkness in-between worlds. It's normally easy to go through but now that the Dark Army is in power, they remade the Heartless born there into Heartless ships. These Heartless ships try to destroy any Gummi ship they find, it's part of the reason there are so few Gummi ships left."
"Which is why we'll be the ones coordinating the Ships' destination, it's your job to defend the ship from the Heartless trying to destroy us before we get there... so you know no pressure. haha?"
"Huh... just a video game! Riku and I always heard about video games from the adults, but they never bought us one. It was part of the reason we wanted to leave, so that we can play them! Once I rescue him and Kairi I gotta show them this ship! They're going to love it!" Chip and Dale looked at one another and then laughed as they quickly got back to work.
"Alright then! Starting the Gummi engine!"
"Get ready Sora! Defend this ship like your life depends on it... because it does!"
"First stop! Let's see... oh, it's Wonderland!"
"Wonderland that sounds like an amusement park!"
"Sora! Defend the ship!"
"I got it! Don't worry Donald." The Gummi ship then lifted off and launched into space. Before it got too deep into space the Gummi ship launched a ball of energy in front of the gummi ship that transformed into a portal. The Gummi ship entered the portal and was now in a new space. This new space was infinite and extremely dark. The only thing inside it was what looked like collections of dark clouds with red lighting sparking inside them. It was almost like a place of pure bleakness and evil.
"This is the darkness in-between worlds?"
"Yup... this is the energy that holds the multiverse together but also the same energy that creates the Heartless. Gosh, I do have to wonder, has it always been this creepy?"
"Ok fellas! Getting the light tunnel ready!" Then a forcefield of concentrated light formed around the Gummi ship. A second later, the forcefield expanded into a tunnel leading to an eventual exit that glowed in light.
"Alright fellas! This ship is ready to go!" The gummi ship started flying down the tunnel of light and heading right for the exit. Sora felt weird holding a controller but not actually controlling the ship.
"So wait, if this is a light tunnel, then why do we even need to worry about these Heartless ships? Doesn't the light repel dark things like Heartless?"
"For normal Heartless yes, but not for the Keyblade Wielders of Darkness and anything they make like the Heartless ships. The Heartless ships are made of several regular heartless fused together, making them bigger and stronger. Strong enough to pass through the tunnel of light. That's why we're in charge of flying forward and you, Sora, are in charge of defense."
"Sora! The Heartless ships!" Sora looked up and saw that Donald was right; Several dark and evil looking ships were slowly entering the light tunnel and their guns were pointing right at the Gummi ship. They made a diamond formation and started blasting red lasers at the Gummi ship. Sora only barely dodged causing them to get scratched by the laser rather than getting hit head on, but they received damage nonetheless.
"Sora!"
"Give me a break I've never done this before!" Sora then made the ship dodge more perfectly this time and started firing back at the Heartless ships. Though Sora managed to destroy a few Heartless ships he was still bad at dodging their return fire. He was also completely unaware of how much he was shaking the ship causing Donald and Goofy to fly off their chairs.
***
By the time they finally made it to Wonderland the Gummi ship was still in one piece but covered in burns and damage from enemy fire.
"Whew! We made it and we're ok! Right guys?" Sora looked at the two backseats and saw Goofy out of his on the floor and groaning in pain. Donald on the other hand, was upside down with his arms crossed; he was glaring at Sora in disappointment.
"Uh... sorry..." Then Chip and Dale then busted out of the Gummi engine looking exhausted with lots of smoke coming out of the engine.
"Ugh... We're gonna have to repair the ship *cough, cough* So you guys should go and help the people of this world *cough, cough* while we get our work done." Sora then scratched the back of his head out of embarrassment. Donald walked up to him, jumped up and roughly bopped him on the head with his staff. Donald then left the ship and Sora, who rubbed his sore head, followed; Goofy who was still dazed managed to barely get up and follow them.
***
"Uh... Where exactly are we?"
"Well Sora, we are in Wonderland!"
"I mean where in Wonderland? Because right now it just looks like an empty forest."
"Huh, you know your right sora. gosh, for a world named Wonderland you'd think it would be more... Wondrous."
"Yeah, no offense to this place but it's kinda boring. for miles all you can see are trees and all you can hear is a girl crying... Wait a minute!" On impulse Sora started running toward the voice. From a distance it sounded like Kairi's voice, so Sora ran despite Donald and Goofy calling out for him to stop. Sora eventually found the source and saw Alice sitting on a rock and while still crying and singing a sad song. Sora wanted to get closer to ask what was wrong but as he did, he saw the strange creatures surrounding her all seemingly sad because of her song. Sora couldn't help but stare at them in awe because of their bizarre and funny looking forms. So that's why this is called Wonderland Sora though as he continued to walk forward and stare at them all. However, Sora wasn't paying attention as he continued walking and accidently bumped into Alice.
"Ah! sorry that was an accident! uh... hey, are you ok?"
"Why no I'm not! I was so close to going home and then- *gasp*" Alice continued to cry during her rant but was shocked at the sight of Sora. Sora backed up a little out of confusion wondering what shocked Alice so much. Alice then slowly walked towards him and gently touched his face, she then started feeling more of his face and even started pinching it.
"Ah! Ow, hey! Stop that! What are you doing?!"
"You're a boy! A real boy! A normal boy! Not a talking doorknob, or a smoking caterpillar, or a tea obsessed Hatter, but a real normal boy!"
"Uh, no? yeah I'm a boy alright." Sora wanted to laugh but couldn't tell if Alice was making a joke or being serious.
"Ahem, I'm Sora by the way."
"Sora... my name is Alice. Please, can you help me get home?"
"Wait, this isn't your home?"
"Oh of course not, nothing here makes sense, and everyone is either so strange or so rude!" As if on cue, both of them started hearing strange singing. Both of them looked up the tree next to them to see a pink and purple cat smiling at them.
"Oh! Cheshire Cat, it's you!"
"Is that... a talking cat?"
"See? It's like this entire world is mad!"
"It doesn't look angry to me."
"No, no, no! I mean mad as in insane!"
"Oh... you could have just said that." Alice then pouted angrily at Sora while he shrugged and smiled trying to stay on Alice's good side.
"Oh, nevermind! Cheshire Cat can you please help me! I want to go home!"
"Go?! You want to go? Well, no one is allowed to go, not without the say of the Queen!" The tone of the Cheshire cat sounded devious, enough to scare Sora and Alice to back a step away from him. On impulse Alice grabbed and held Sora's hand. Sora was the first to blush, then Alice once she realized what she did. They looked at each other and upon realizing how close their faces were they quickly looked away while blushing in embarrassment. Alice then realized they were still holding hands and quickly let go and faced Cheshire again.
"Uh... ahem! But I don't know a queen."
"You don't know the queen?! Well you simply must! She would go absolutely mad just by the sight of you! Hehehe, simply, absolutely, horrifically, delightfully, mad!" Alice wasn't sure what Cheshire meant but nodded to show she wanted to see this queen if it meant going home. Sora on the other hand was skeptical and walked forward and stood in front of Alice while facing Cheshire.
"Wait a second! I don't know what horrif- ical... I don't know what horrible means in this world, but where I'm from it means bad! What exactly is up with this queen?"
"What is up? Why would you want to know what is up? The clouds are up! the moon is up! The sun is down but it will eventually come back up... but everyone knows that so why the curiosity?"
"What? No! I mean can this queen really help?"
"Oh, she CAN help but if she WANTS to help well. Hehehe, that my dear children, is up to you!" Sora was still confused by all this, and Cheshire wasn't helping in the slightest. Still Alice stepped beside Sora to speak to the cat directly again.
"So where do we find this queen?"
"Well some go this way, some go that way, and others go those ways... but for me I prefer a short cut." Cheshire pulled on a branch as if it was a lever, then a large chunk of bark disappeared from the tree and inside formed a portal that led to what looked like a castle surrounded by a hedge.
"Sora! Don't go running off like that!" Suddenly Donald and Goofy finally caught up to Sora, leaving Alice shocked at the sight of the two.
"Oh my! I saw talking birds and strange dogs but never ones that dress and act like humans! Actually I might have encountered a few, my goodness this world is so absolutely mad that I believe I might end up the same."
"Hm, but it doesn't seem that angry to-" Sora then quickly covered Goofy's mouth and smiled at Alice which actually left her confused.
"Oh, actually these guys are with me! this is-"
"Donald!"
"And Goofy." Doanld forcefully got on top of Sora's head and leaned forward and extended his hand toward Alice. Goofy on the other hand bowed a little to show his respect while also extending a hand to Alice. Alice was shocked at first but then laughed and shook both their hands.
"It's delightful to meet you Donald and Goofy, I am Alice, and I must say you're the most kind and pleasant gentlemen I have met since I got here!"
"Likewise, miss Alice!"
"Hope Sora wasn't causing you any trouble."
"Hey! We were actually having a nice conversation before you showed up!" Sora shouted as he forced Donald off of him, Sora then crossed his arms to show his anger at Donald while the duck started chuckling at Sora. Goofy looked at Alice and scratched the back of his head, embarrassed that Alice had to see them bickering; however, she just laughed in delight.
"Oh, you three are an absolute delight! Won't you help me get home? I promise you all a wonderful tea party the moment we get back!" Sora never had tea therefore didn't have a taste for it, but he still liked the idea of helping someone out. So he accepted and walked with Alice into the tree toward the queen's castle.
***
Thankfully it didn't take long to get through the hedge maze and upon getting out they found themselves in a large and vast garden. There they saw three living cards painting white roses red and singing about it.
"Wow those guys look funny." Sora and Alice looked at Donald for his comment, they then looked at each other and started laughing. Donald noticed them laughing and demanded to know why. The two of them closed their mouths but smiled at each other still thinking it was funny. However, the fun was cut short when they heard one of the card men screaming and looked back to see him attacked by a Heartless.
"Oh my! What are those horrible creatures?!"
"It's the Heartless! Alice, stay here, we got this!" Sora then yelled at the Heartless to get its attention, allowing the card men to run. Soon more Heartless showed up, some looked like normal Shadow Heartless, but the Emblem Heartless had strange and wacky forms.
"What's with those heartless?"
"Gosh do ya, think the Keyblade Wielders of Darkness are running out of ideas?"
"A doorknob that talks, a caterpillar that smokes, and a hatter obsessed with tea... Oh no, those heartless are the people of this world! The rotten Dark Army is already corrupting this world!"
"Then we better start liberating!" Donald and Goofy then charged forward to fight the Heartless. Sora followed by jumping in the air and landed closer to the Heartless and started slashing at them. Sora was still fighting but was surprised by how light his body felt, it was almost like he got stronger than when he was in Traverse Town. Before Sora could ponder anymore, Heartless started surrounding him. An Emblem Heartless with the face of a flower and spider legs appeared and tried to headbutt Sora. Sora managed to use his keyblade to guard. Donald cast a lighting spell on the Heartless trying to surround Sora. Sora still had his keyblade raised up so Goofy got on top of it and jumped off. Goofy filled his shield with magical energy and fell straight down releasing the magic in an explosive impact. Sora then smiled in awe at the amazing display of magical power. Sora chased after the remaining Heartless and finished them off and Donald used fireball to get the very last one.
"Haha! That was awesome!"
"Don't get overconfident Sora, there's no way that was all of them."
"Gosh Sora, you handled that battle pretty well. Aren't you supposed to be new to this keyblade business?"
"Yeah... It's weird to say but, I feel stronger ever since I locked Traverse Town from the darkness." Donald and Goofy looked at each other in confusion, they didn't know everything about keyblade wielders since there weren't any left. What they did know was locking a world from the darkness shouldn't make a Keyblade Wielder of Light stronger, it just keeps the darkness out.
"Sora! That was amazing!" Alice then ran over to Sora and hugged him tightly. Alice laughed in joy and faced Sora but they both blushed when they realized how close their faces were. Alice then let go of Sora and they both distanced themselves from each other. Goofy smiled at the sight of them and Donald laughed.
However, the moment was ruined when more card men showed up; all of which were of different colors and all singing to a song about praising the queen. Then the queen stomped forward angrily with the tiny king following her. Then the three card men from earlier showed up, ran beside the queen and clumsily bumped into each other and then hastily bowed to her.
"... WELL? WHERE ARE THESE SHADOW CREATURES YOU SAID INTERRUPTED YOUR WORK?"
"Uh... I uh..."
"We swear your majesty they were just-" The card man looked to where the Heartless attacked them and saw Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Alice.
"Them! It was them who attacked us!"
"HM? THEY DON'T LOOK LIKE SHADOW CREATURES TO ME!"
"Uh... they... blindsided us! yes! That's it!"
"Y- Yes! it all happened so fast! Our eyes tricked us, is all your majesty!"
"WHAT?!" Sora, Donald, and Goofy all couldn't help but yell in shock and anger at the accusations. Alice even jumped from their sudden yelling, but she felt the same as they did.
"SO THEN, YOU FOUR DISRUPTED MY MEN PAINTING MY HIDEOUS WHITE ROSES INTO BEAUTIFUL RED ROSES?"
"Hey! Those shadow creatures were here! We just defeated them already!"
"Yeah, we saved you guys!"
"Why are you saying we attacked you?"
"SO, IN OTHER WORDS, YOU THREE LIED TO ME?"
"Uh- um- no your majesty! We really were attacked! it's just that the shadow creatures aren't here anymore so we thought you would accuse us of lying so I tried to place the blame on them!" The other two card men then tried to cover the speaking card man's mouth, but it was already too late. The queen turned red in anger.
"LIARS! ALL THREE OF THEM! OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!" The card soldiers then started singing as they grabbed the three card men and started dragging them away. Sora couldn't believe how this was escalating so horribly and so quickly, Sora ran over to the queen and grabbed her arm to stop her.
"Hey! knock it off!" This proved to be a bad idea, the queen turned redder out of anger. She quickly jumped up and slammed her body into the ground causing everyone to fall to the ground including sora. Sora, now on the ground, looked up at the red queen who glared at him with intense Hatred.
"YOU DARE TOUCH ME, YOU PEASANT!"
"Uh well. You were going to kill those guys! Sure they lied but don't you think you're taking things too far!"
"YOU A PEASANT DARE TELL ME A QUEEN WHAT AND WHAT NOT TO DO?"
"I dare to tell you what you're doing is wrong!" Sora got up and stood tall. Despite the queen clearly being taller than him he still glared at her to show his determination. Donald and Goofy started panicking, they forgot to tell Sora the full extent of their mission. While they are supposed to liberate worlds of darkness, they also have to keep the natural order of worlds. In other words, they cannot interfere with the locals, which was exactly what Sora was doing. Alice was moved by Sora's bravery, so she quickly ran over to his side, stood tall, and faced the queen with determination as well.
"Just because your queen doesn't mean you have to be so rude!" The queen glared at them both but then looked to the sky as if she had an idea.
"HM, HIGH RANKING ARROGANCE? WELL MADE CLOTHING? A SENSE OF POWER? IS YOUR RUDENESS PERHAPS ROOTED FORM ROYAL HERITAGE?" Sora and Alice looked at each other in confusion wondering what the queen was talking about. Suddenly Goofy ran up to Alice to cover her mouth and Donald jumped on Sora's back to cover his mouth.
"Yes! Yes they are royalty!"
"Indeed, they are your majesty, a-hyuk! This is Prince Sora and Princess Alice! we are here on a uh... diplomatic treaty from the... uh... Disney Castle!" Donald looked at Goofy in shock since he referenced their world. Goofy, now embarrassed, shrugged since he couldn't think of anything better. They both quickly smiled at the queen hoping it worked to, surprisingly it did as the queen seemed surprised by this and then delighted.
"OH! SO, YOUR ROYALTY!" Goofy let go of Alice, she looked at him in confusion and he nodded to show her that she should agree. Sora then forced Donald off of him and glared at him to show his annoyance, Donald then pointed at the queen and Sora sighed. Then both Alice and Sora lied that they were indeed royalty.
"OH! HOW PECULIAR!" The queen smiled in delight, then immediately slammed her body into the ground and glared at the four of them with burning rage.
"THERE CAN'T BE OTHER ROYALTY IN WONDERLAND I OFFED ALL THE HEADS OF THE OTHER KINGS AND QUEENS! THERE IS NOTHING LEFT BUT ME! ... UGH AND THE KING."
"Well perhaps you just missed us?" The queen then looked closer at Alice, seeming angry about what she said. She then looked at Sora, then she backed off seeming to no longer be mad but disappointed.
"HM... PERHAPS, I DID. NORMALLY I WOULD JUST OFF YOUR HEAD AND BE DONE WITH IT, HOWEVER I AM NOT WITHOUT HONOR! JOIN ME IN A GAME OF CROQUET! IF YOU WIN I SHALL... CONSIDER THIS DIPLOMACY OF YOURS. BUT IF YOU LOSE! OFF WITH YOUR HEADS! PREPARE A GAME AT ONCE!" The card soldiers all got up and started getting what was needed for the croquet game. The queen then looked back at the four, huffed in amusement, and walked away to prepare. Alice looked at Sora in concern while he shrugged in confusion, then Donald hit him in the head with his staff.
"Sora! We aren't supposed to be interfering with worlds like this! Every world has their own natural order, and we have to respect that!"
"Ow... ok, but to be fair, you guys didn't tell me that. Also, this was kinda out of my hands. I mean sorry guys, but I don't really know what else to do but to go along with it." Donald just sighed in defeat while Goofy patted him on the back.
"So, uh... what's crockett?"
"Oh Croquet! I've seen the older women back home play it all the time! I'm not too familiar with the rules but I do believe I know the basics."
"That's good enough for me! Let's show this queen what we're made of and then get you home!" Alice smiled in delight and Sora did the same, both of them were unaware of how Donald groaned in disappointment while Goofy just continued to pat Donald on the back.
***
With the only alternatives being, leave Alice behind to be beheaded or fight the queen and disrupt the natural order even further. Donald and Goofy had no choice but to help Sora and Alice play Croquet. Their only hope was that in return the queen would help them stop the darkness and then return Alice to her original world. The card soldiers gave the queen her mallet bag and from it she pulled out a living flamingo. Sora and Alice both had to cover their mouths from laughing at the ridiculousness of the situation but quickly stopped when they saw the queen glaring at them.
The queen huffed in annoyance, got herself ready, and then swung the flamingo at a hedgehog, the hedgehog wasn't actually hit but instead lightly tapped. The hedgehog then started running and then started rolling toward the card soldiers acting as the hoops for the game. The hedgehog managed to get past five of the card soldiers but missed the last one. The card soldier ran over trying to let the hedgehog pass him, but he was too slow.
"HMPH! IF I WIN THIS GAME YOUR HEAD, OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!" The card guard bowed while shivering in fear, he then left for the dungeon. Sora frowned with how cruel the queen was being, but she simply just handed Sora the flamingo and smirked at him.
"CHIN UP PRINCE, WIN THIS GAME AND HE WILL BE SPARED." Sora grabbed the flamingo and it started flailing around, the queen just laughed at him while Alice tried to help calm the flamingo. After a while the flamingo finally cooperated but still looked mad about being handled by someone not the queen. Sora then got ready but hesitated when he saw the hedgehog, he didn't want to hurt the little animal, so he leaned down to it.
"Hey, I'm not gonna hurt you, ok? Just gonna lightly tap you, so be ready to run." the hedgehog looked up at Sora, surprised to receive such kindness and nodded.
"HURRY UP!" Sora sighed and then got the flamingo ready but when he swung, the flamingo bent its neck to not touch the hedgehog at all. The queen noticed this and just smirked while quietly chuckling.
"HAVING PROBLEMS?" Sora huffed in annoyance and tried again and again but the flamingo still bent its head.
"This isn't fair! the flamingo is not doing what it needs to!"
"WELL, IF YOU TWO ARE TRULY ROYALTY JUST TELL IT TO OBEY YOU. THAT'S WHAT I DO AND IT WORKS FOR ME, AFTER ALL I AM THE QUEEN." Sora looked back at the queen and then to the flamingo.
"Do you wanna help me?" The flamingo shook its head to which Sora sighed but then he just let the flamingo go.
"Then you don't have to." The flamingo was surprised by this but shook its head and went back to the mallet bag. The queen was shocked as well but then chuckled in amusement.
"HOW WILL YOU PLAY THE GAME NOW, DEAR PRINCE?" Sora grunted since he could tell the queen was mocking him, but then he smiled brightly and summoned his keyblade. Donald and Goofy were shocked and both facepalmed in disappointment knowing Sora was using a powerful tool of light to play a game. Alice was confused on why Sora was holding a large gold key but still smiled knowing the queen couldn't cheat with the flamingos anymore. None of them noticed the genuine fear in the queen's eyes when she saw the keyblade.
Sora then swung his keyblade but made sure to slow it down and only lightly tapped on the hedgehog. The hedgehog smiled at Sora then ran with all its might until it was able to start rolling to the card soldier hoops. The card soldiers were about to get away from the hedgehog, but the queen smiled and waved her hand: ordering them not to. The card soldiers were confused but did as they ordered and let the hedgehog roll through them.
The hedgehog managed to roll past six card soldier hoops. Sora wasn't entirely sure but hoped it was good that he scored one more hoop than the queen did. Sora jumped up in excitement while Alice clapped in joy and Goofy cheered as well. Donald on the other hand still didn't like this but smiled knowing that it managed to work out. Donald then looked at the queen and was surprised to see her smiling deviously. She held her hand behind her back and snapped her finger. The card soldiers then started screaming as from the shadows more Heartless started showing up.
"Oh no! Those horrible shadow creatures are back!"
"Alice, stay here! Donald, let's help Sora!" As Sora was surrounded by Heartless, Goofy and Donald ran over to help him. Thankfully, Sora slashed through the heartless with ease. Sora thought this would be another quick battle; but then a large shadow formed in the ground in front of him. Out of the shadow a large foot popped out and kicked Sora back hard. A massive Heartless then slowly rose up from the shadow and showed itself to be the Trickmaster. On the right shoulder of the Trickmaster was another black hooded keyblade wielder of darkness.
"Hey there, Keyblade wielder wannabe! Lord Oogie sends his regards!" The Keyblade Wielder of Darkness then ignited fire in his hands and threw fire balls at the garden causing everything to burn. He then summoned his keyblade which looked like a swirl of flames with a handle detailed with a silver and crimson ring with spikes.
"I'm not a rookie like the others! I was there when we destroyed the last stronghold of the Guardians of Light! You're just another heart for me to make into a toy! Just like the rest of this stupid world!" The Trickmaster then started marching forward. Sora was ready to attack but saw how the Trickmaster was seconds from crushing one of the hedgehogs. Sora rushed in and slashed the Trickmaster's foot, keeping it from crushing the hedgehog.
"You, ok? go to Alice! She'll watch over you while we take on this jerk!" The hedgehog nodded and then rolled over to Alice. Sora pointed his keyblade at the Trickmaster while Donald and Goofy ran to his side. The Keyblade Wielder of Darkness then stomped on the Trickmaster's shoulder to get its attention. The Trickmaster then pulled out two strange staff looking items and Keyblade Wielder of Darkness threw fireballs at them to light them up like matches. Sora, Donald, and Goofy lost their colors at the sight of the Trickmaster twirling around its torches with ease.
"Uh... Donald you wouldn't happen to have water magic, would you?"
"No, but I got something better! Ice magic!" Donald raised his staff proudly in the air, but a fireball shot by the Keyblade wielder of Darkness at the staff, causing it to fly away. Donald was frozen for a second but then ran off to get the staff back leaving Goofy and Sora alone.
"Um Goofy I don't wanna sound mean, but is Donald really the best wizard in Disney Castle?"
"... He's actually the only wizard in Disney Castle." Sora wasn't sure what to do with that information, so he just sighed and focused back on the Trickmaster. However, the Keyblade Wielder of Darkness stomped on the Trickmaster's shoulder again and it backed off as the other Heartless started advancing. Sora was ready to attack but Goofy stopped him and stepped forward.
"It's a trick he's trying to make you tired so defeating us will be easy. You take on the keyblade wielder of darkness and his heartless, I'll hold back these ones." Sora nodded in agreement, Goofy then raised his shield and Sora jumped on, Goofy then pushed him up allowing him to soar high in the air. As Sora started falling down, he was aiming right for the Trickmaster. Though Sora was hoping it wouldn't happen, the Keyblade Wielder of Darkness raised his keyblade just in time and blocked his strike.
Sora was then forced off and landed on the other shoulder of the Trickmaster, Sora got into a battle stance and faced the hooded boy but stopped when his back felt suddenly hot. Sora quickly realized the Trickmaster had lit his back on fire, Sora was now panicking trying to put it out.
"Ah! Ow! This is cheating!"
"Cheating? I'm a keyblade wielder of darkness, I make my own rules and the first rule is, I always win! no exceptions!" Sora tried putting the fire out but could only do so much with the Trickmaster still attacking him. though to Sora's surprise the fire didn't hurt as much as he thought it would, instead it was more annoying than agonizing. Sora then ran across the Trickmaster's Shoulders and ran right toward the Keyblade Wielder of Darkness. Both their keyblades clashed strike after strike, Sora couldn't believe how well he was handling his keyblade now or how natural each attack felt. Granted neither of them were making any progress in defeating the other. However, he still felt amazing for being on equal footing, after being nearly overpower by the last two Keyblade Wielders of Darkness.
I've definitely gotten stronger since Traverse Town Sora thought to himself it's so weird, but I guess I shouldn't be complaining. The Keyblade Wielder of Darkness then slashed at Sora with all his might. Sora managed to block again but he also had to back up a step and almost drop his keyblade.
"Ha... Ha... grrr! You don't even have a master or proper training so how are you this close to my level?!" Sora looked at the Keyblade Wielder of Darkness, quickly noticing how tired he looked. Sora then smirked at him.
"By the looks of it, I'm actually above your level." The Keyblade Wielder of Darkness groaned furiously and cast a large fireball at Sora causing him to fly off of the Trickmaster. Sora was now more on fire and panicked while rolling around to put the fire out. Thankfully Sora successfully put all the fire out this time but now he was on the ground exhausted and covered in burns.
"Sora come on get up! ugh... we can't give up now." Goofy said despite being extremely tired himself. Suddenly both of them were surrounded by a green energy and they no longer felt tired or hurt but instead bursting with energy. The two of them turned around to see Donald standing proudly while holding his magic staff.
"Donald! you cast the cure properly!"
"Thanks Donald!"
"Wait, cure? isn't that a basic spell?" Donald then finally cast his ice spell on the Trickmaster, putting its flames out. The Trickmaster could still move just slower. The Keyblade Wielder of Darkness growled in frustration and jumped down and faced the three of them. He unleashed large flames all around him making Sora, Donald, and Goofy back away from the unbearably hot flames. Alice was watching the entire time in horror.
"Oh, I can't just stay here! I have to help but how can I..." Alice looked around for a weapon or anything that could help her. She instead saw the white rabbit who had passed out due to the shock of the Heartless ambush. Alice smiled and gently placed the hedgehog from her shoulder onto the ground.
"Wait here, I know how to help Sora and the others." The hedgehog nodded, and Alice quickly rushed over to the rabbit. Meanwhile, Donald blasted an ice spell that quelled the flames allowing Sora to charge at the Keyblade Wielder of Darkness. Their Keyblades clashed once again, Sora smirked then focused his strength forward. Before the Keyblade Wielder of Darkness could regain his balance Goofy bashed him with his shield pushing him further back. Donald then cast a fireball at the hooded boy which had no effect, instead it actually rejuvenated him making him slightly stronger. The Keyblade Wielder of Darkness then stood up and looked at Donald in confusion while Sora and Goofy did the same.
"... You know I'm a fire elemental, right?" Donald's eyes grew wide in realization and then face palmed in disappointment. The Keyblade Wielder of Darkness started laughing uncontrollably. However, this was a bad move on his part for Sora slashed him. Sora raised his keyblade to strike again but the Hooded boy managed to guard this time despite being seriously injured.
"Ugh, lucky shot! It- It won't happen again... ugh, especially with my Trickmaster!" The Keyblade Wielder of Darkness kicked Sora back and then shot a fireball back at the Trickmaster, freeing it from the ice. He then ran behind the Trickmaster so that he could recover with the Trickmaster covering him. The Trickmaster ignited its torches once again and spun them around while approaching Sora, Donald, and Goofy. Goofy and Sora tried to attack the Trickmaster, but its spinning torches were too fast and too hot forcing them to back off. Donald tried an ice blast again only for the fire to be too hot for it to take effect.
It seemed there was nothing left that could be done; the three of them were being forced back and had no way to stop the Trickmaster. Worse off, the Keyblade Wielder of Darkness was slowly recovering. They were making no progress and were quickly getting cornered. Sora looked at Donald then Goofy and saw the fear in their faces. Sora then looked back at Alice who was trying but failing to wake the white rabbit up. Sora felt his frustration building up, he just started this adventure, and he was already so close to losing, if he lost, he would never be able to see Kairi or Riku ever again.
Yes... your frustration is justified... but it cannot be quelled... not without the darkness...
Sora was now sweating in fear, the sinister voice was back, though it felt weaker it was still terrifying none-the-less.
"Sora?! why aren't you moving?!"
"Sora? what's wrong?!" Both Goofy and Donald were calling out to Sora as they were forced further and further back by the Trickmaster's ever approaching spinning torches, but Sora couldn't focus on them.
The Light is where we are born yes... but to truly thrive... we need the DARKNESS!
no... please stop it!
do not be afraid child... the darkness does not have to be your enemy... instead... make it your power!
I said stop! Suddenly Sora stabbed his keyblade into the ground, and electricity emitted from it and shot right toward the Trickmaster. The Trickmaster was stunned but only slightly damaged by the electricity. Sora looked just as surprised as Donald and Goofy did, Sora then looked at his hands and saw small sparks of electricity flowing around his fingers. Sora then thrusted his hands toward the Trickmaster but nothing happened. Sora then resummoned his keyblade just as he had hoped electricity started flowing through it. Sora then pointed his keyblade at the Trickmaster, shooting a large bolt of electricity toward the Trickmaster. The Trickmaster roared like it was in massive pain, when the lighting stopped the Trickmaster slumped to the ground while blackened with smoke.
"Wow... Sora that was magic!
"But you haven't been trained; how did you do that?"
"I... I don't really know. I was frustrated at first but now... I don't feel like that anymore." Goofy smiled, not really getting it but glad to see how Sora was improving. Donald on the other hand was concerned, normally nothing good ever grew out of negative emotions like frustration. However, the Trickmaster was not done yet and neither was the Keyblade Wielder of Darkness who had finally recovered. The three of them got back into a battle stance. The Keyblade Wielder of Darkness pointed his keyblade at the Trickmaster and turned his keyblade. The Trickmaster was now infused with more dark energy causing it to grow bigger and its color to become darker. The Trickmaster then grew red spikes all over its body that ignited flames. Sora, Donald, and Goofy looked up at the darkened Trickmaster in defeat, it took so much to defeat the Trickmaster before and now it was stronger.
"I do apologize for being so late! Please leave this horrible beast to me Sora!" Sora recognized the voice of Alice but for some reason she sounded so much louder. Sora then turned around in confusion only for his face to turn into shock when he saw a giant Alice in front of him smiling down on him.
"Alice?! How are you doing that!"
"Well like I said this world is absolutely mad, it's difficult to understand but I suppose even the oddest of situations has its perks."
"wha-! Trickmaster! take her down!" the darkened Trickmaster then slapped Alice with its flaming staff. Alice gasped and touched her burnt cheek in pain while the Trickmaster laughed with its monstrous voice about this. Alice was hurt but still glared at the Trickmaster in anger. Alice then punched the Trickmaster so hard that it was practically launched into the air and fell hard into the queen's maze hedge. The Trickmaster was trying but failing to get back up due to the massive amount of force it was hit by. Alice's cheek still hurt but she stood proudly knowing how she defeated the darkened Trickmaster so easily.
"Uh... that... you... You overgrown brat! What kind of lady are you?!" Alice then looked down at the Keyblade Wielder of Darkness, in disappointment. She then kneeled down, grabbed the hooded boy, and lifted him up to face her.
"And what would you know about ladies? why I bet you've never even talked to a lady." Sora, Donald, and Goofy couldn't help but laugh. The Keyblade Wielder of Darkness was now angered and covered his whole body in flames. The flames burned Alice's hand forcing her to let go and she even started crying from the pain. The hooded boy landed on the ground successfully and raised his keyblade while igniting his flames. The Keyblade Wielder of Darkness stomped over to Sora to burn him alive but one of Alice's large tears then landed on him. Sora, Donald, and Goofy started laughing at him while he looked up at Alice in anger.
Alice then managed to calm down and wipe away her tears, Alice looked down on the hooded boy with a look of disappointment and then quickly stomped on him. Alice then huffed and stomped over to the Trickmaster to finish it off before it could get back up. Sora, Donald, and Goofy stopped laughing, now the three of them actually felt a little scared of Alice now. They walked over to the crater and looked at the Keyblade Wielder of Darkness in pity.
"Uh, are you ok?"
"I'm... going... to destroy.... all of you!" Sora sighed in disappointment then slid down the crater and slashed at his keyblade destroying it but leaving him unharmed.
"There. Now you can't do bad things anymore, so leave this world and stop harming innocent people." Sora turned his back and walked out of the crater. Sora was completely unaware that Keyblade Wielder of Darkness, ignited flames in his hands and was getting ready to charge at Sora. Sora felt this at the last second, but thankfully Donald noticed this in time and cast an ice spell freezing the hooded boy. However, by impulse Sora then slashed at the hooded boy hoping to just injure him but with Donalds ice his body quickly shattered and faded into darkness.
Sora was shocked at first but then just felt disappointment, it really didn't feel good to him to be defeating keyblade wielders of darkness like this. He wondered what happened to them after they were destroyed. Do they return to their worlds but good now? Did they get cursed as Heartless? or where they just... gone? Before Sora could ponder anymore on the topic another large thud could be felt close to the crater.
Sora quickly climbed out and stood with Donald and Goofy to see a beaten up darkened Trickmaster with Alice standing there covered in burns and her dress ruined but still standing strong and proud. Alice then picked up a bottle from her pocket and started drinking it, Alice slowly started shrinking and eventually became the same size as Sora.
"Wow, Alice you're amazing!"
"Why thank you Sora, I do hate how that dreadful monster ruined my dress, but I am proud that I was able to keep it from hurting the rest of you."
"Don't worry Alice! I'll cure you and fix your dress!" Donald then raised his cane to cure Alice but Goofy and Sora stopped him before he could finish.
"Uh, maybe we should help Alice after the Trickmaster is dealt with." Donald looked disappointed but just brushed it aside and walked over to the Trickmaster to destroy it. Sora and Goofy exhaled in relief while Alice looked at them both confused. The Trickmaster was right behind Alice and if Donald cast his cure wrong again there was a possibility it would just cure the Trickmaster. Donald then quickly cast an ice spell to freeze the Trickmaster. Sora was about to just simply slash at the Trickmaster but Goofy stopped him. Goofy instead raised his shield over his head and encouraged Sora to run at him. Sora smiled and rushed at Goofy, he jumped on Goofy's shield, then Goofy launched him up while giving him a magic boost. Sora could help but laugh as the added magic given to him by Goofy gave him so much energy. Sora then raised his keyblade and as he was falling toward the ground, he slashed at the frozen Trickmaster breaking it into ice and darkness. As the Trickmaster's body was destroyed Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Alice then all stood there in awe as the liberated Hearts started floating into the air and faded away.
"How beautiful! What are they?"
"They're the hearts of people cursed by the Darkness but now they're free thanks to us... Thanks to you Alice." Sora smiled proudly at Alice while Alice looked at Sora surprised but also blushed from the praise. Sora didn't see the blush since Alice's face was covered in ashes, however Donald quickly fixed that by casting cure.
"Finally! I mean- got it the first time!" Sora then looked behind Alice and saw several flowers that were now abnormally large almost as if they were grown by healing magic. Sora just giggled, while Goofy sighed, and Alice was left confused by their reactions.
"Haha. Well, that guy must have been the Dark Conduit which means this world is liberated! All we have to do is find the keyhole and get Alice home!" Just then the four of them were surrounded by card soldiers who pointed their spears directly at them from all corners. The queen then showed up, her face red with anger but she was also strangely smiling.
"WELL, HOW PECULIAR! THE SHADOW CREATURES APPEAR YET AGAIN AND YET AGAIN YOU FOUR ARE PRESENT! YET AT THE SAME TIME NONE OF YOU ARE HARMED IN THE SLIGHTEST! IT'S ALMOST AS IF YOU ARE THE ONES BEHIND ALL THIS!"
"Wh- What? No! We are trying to help!"
"That's true your majesty! We fought those Heartless to save you all!"
"HM! SAVE US? YOU CAUSED MORE DESTRUCTION THAN SALVATION!" The queen then pointed at the hedge maze and the garden. The four of them saw how parts of it were crushed and destroyed and the rest was in flames. Alice covered her mouth in shock at the sight of a garden burning while Sora, Donald, and Goofy were full of guilt. They had now disrupted the natural order beyond repair and were currently paying the price for it.
"YOU ARE NO SAVIORS! YOU ARE CLEARLY SAVAGES! AND I WILL NOT TOLERATE IT! OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!" Sora, Donald, and Goofy all got in front of Alice to defend her from the card soldiers.
"Ah! just a second my dear!" Everyone then stopped and looked to a tiny voice next to the queen.
"That's the king? He's so tiny." Donald and Goofy quickly covered Sora's mouth as the King started to speak.
"Would it not be fair to at least give them a royal trial? they are still royalty after all."
"WHAT?! ABSOLUTELY NOT!"
"b- b- but my dear-!"
"LOOK WHAT THEY DID TO MY GARDEN! THIS SHOULD NOT AND CANNOT BE TOLERATED!" The queen kept yelling at the king while he kept trying but failing to appease her. Sora kept looking around for an idea on how to get out while Donald kept his eyes on the queen. Donald remembered how the queen was scared when she saw Sora's keyblade and how the Heartless appeared after she snapped her fingers.
"What are ya thinking about Donald?"
"I think I know what's going on." Donald then cast a lighting spell at the queen. She was shocked at the sight of lighting heading toward her but then she summoned her keyblade and blocked the lighting strike.
"YOU VILE DUCK! HOW DARE YOU... OH NO." Sora's eyes widened at the sight of the queen holding a Keyblade of Darkness. Sora then ran past the card soldiers toward the queen and slashed at her keyblade, destroying it. Suddenly from the shadows more Heartless revealed themselves only to quickly fade away.
"Wh- What's going on?"
"The Heartless are retreating, without a dark conduit they can't stay! So it wasn't that Hooded boy who was the Dark Conduit it was the queen! She was leading the darkness into this world!" All the card soldiers and even the king gasped at this realization, while the queen just stood in silence. Sora then ran to the middle of the card soldiers to get their attention.
"So that means the queen has betrayed wonderland and you guys don't have to serve her anymore!"
"Uh. Sora what are you-" Alice ran to be beside Sora and help him move the hearts of the card soldiers.
"That's right! This queen has been rude to everyone and threatening to off the heads of anyone for the most ridiculous reasons!"
"Alice! Please don't-"
"Yeah! The queen has been ruling over you all unfairly for long enough! Now that the darkness is gone you all can be free! So, what do you all say?!"
***
Now Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Alice were running for their lives from a seemingly endless army of angry card soldiers. Donald seemed especially angry about their current situation.
"Why did you two have to say all that?!"
"Sorry! The queen was being an unfair jerk! I thought they would be happy to be free of her rule!"
"Obviously they serve her for a reason! This is why we don't disrupt a world's natural order! If we do something like this will happen!"
"A-hyuk! But Donald if we hadn't disrupted the order, we wouldn't have found out that the queen was the Dark Conduit helping the dark army let Heartless in! So didn't it kinda work out?!"
"Shut up Goofy!"
"Oh dear! This is all unraveling into a nightmare! I just want to go home!"
"Don't worry! I think we're almost at the Gummi ship!" Goofy was leading the way toward the Gummi ship but suddenly stopped looking around confused.
"Goofy! Why are we stopping?!"
"I- I can't remember if it was this way or that way." Alice looked around and seemed to recognize where they were and took Goofy and Sora's hand leading them down an unfamiliar path; also nearly leaving Donald behind. Sora could see in the corner of his eyes they were passing by a lot of wonderful and interesting things but was more focused on getting out of there. Eventually Alice led them down a strange looking tunnel that led to a tiny door with a living doorknob. Alice pleaded with the doorknob to get them out, but it refused no matter what she said.
Sora looked behind them and saw the card soldiers getting close and closer, so summoned his keyblade ready for a fight. Sora didn't want to fight them but felt like he had no choice. Sora's guilt filled him up as he felt that Donald was right, this really would have gone better if he didn't disrupt the natural order as badly as he did. However, Sora's attention was directed right back to his key when it started glowing brightly and seemingly attracted to something behind him.
Sora then waved his keyblade around wondering what it was so attached to, then the doorknobs mouth started glowing blue. The doorknob was seemingly mocking Alice but then its mouth was forced open until it turned into a world keyhole.
"My word! What's going on!"
"Wow... Haha! You did it! Alice, you found this world's keyhole!" Sora then entered his key into the keyhole and locked it. However, unlike the last time he did this, suddenly it unleashed a blinding light that grew brighter and brighter and till nothing was visible.
***
Sora woke up suddenly and looked around, it looked like he was near the edge of a forest with the other end leading to a mansion. Sora then noticed that Alice was sleeping right next to him with her head on his shoulder, Sora blushed but she seemed comfortable, so he didn't disturb her.
"Huh... where are we?"
"Woooah!"
"Waaah!" Then Goofy and Donald fell from the tree and landed right in front of Sora and Alice, the loud thump woke Alice up right away.
"Oh! No please queen! please don't-! huh? where... I'm home!" Alice quickly got up and looked around in joy to see things were familiar and actually made sense.
"Oh! Is this your home? I was wondering what this place was." Alice then looked back at Sora in confusion.
"Is your world not normal like this?"
"Oh no, it's a pretty normal place but where I'm from it's a small island where there's really not that much to do. Yeah, it's not really as wide and free as this place, man Riku and Kairi always wanted to visit a beautiful mansion like this..." Sora was happy remembering his home and his friends but then started to remember how much he missed them.
"Who's Riku and Kairi?"
"Oh, they're my best friends. We always dreamed of leaving the island and going to other places like this one. Riku promised he was gonna find a way to get it done, but the Dark Army destroyed my world and took him and Kairi away." Alice then covered her mouth in shock.
"But it's ok! They're out there somewhere and I'm gonna find them and save our home! The Dark Army is going to pay for hurting my friends! And for hurting people like you, Alice." Alice was quite surprised to see how positive Sora could be despite dealing with so much, his world destroyed, and his friends and family missing. Alice wondered what she would do if she was in a similar situation. However, Alice knew better than to dwell on negative thoughts; especially now that she was finally back home. Instead faced Sora with a bright smile.
"Well, I do believe if anyone can save your home, family, and friends it would have to be a bright and brave boy like you Sora. Oh, speaking of family! I'm so sorry! I know I promised you all tea, but my mother and father must be worried about me and-"
"Worry not, miss Alice! We need to leave anyways, now that Wonderland is liberated from Darkness it's our job to go to the next world."
"Oh, I see." Alice looked disappointed and sad at just the thought of Sora leaving so soon, Sora then grabbed both her hands and faced Alice with a smile.
"Hey! like I said: me, Riku, and Kairi always wanted to go to different places, so once I get my friends back, I'm definitely coming back here to show them. I'm sure they'll love it, and they'll love to meet you. So, no matter what, we will definitely meet again, I promise." Alice lit up with Sora's promise and even blushed with joy. Alice even found the courage to kiss Sora on the cheek which surprised Sora.
"I think I'll hold you to that promise. Farewell Sora. I'll be waiting." Alice then ran back to her home while Sora was left standing there blushing. He then placed his hand on the cheek that Alice kissed. Sora wasn't sure what to feel at the moment. He only recently thought of Kairi as more than a friend ever since Riku brought up the paopu fruit. Now another pretty girl shows up and kisses him on the cheek, Sora just couldn't help but blush in confusion. Sora then turned around and saw Goofy smiling joyfully and Donald smirking at him. Sora then smiled and chased after the two of them. Alice watched them as they left and then resumed walking home when they were out of sight.
"Well Wonderland was certainly an experience. However, I think out of all the strange and yet wondrous things from that world; the part I liked the best was meeting Sora."
"How do you know Sora?"
"Hm? Who are you?"
"Me? My name is Riku, and I need you to come with me."

My magical girl au is actually based loosely upon the plot of samurai rabbit tbh hdhdhjdhd I came up with the idea in the height of my tmnt fixation so it just kind of worked out like that…
So basically it takes place after the events of close game offline and I like to think the four of them begin to get together at the arcade every now and again. During one of these arcade escapades toya hears a strange noise coming from one of the back rooms. It sparks his curiosity and love of mystery. He brings it to the attention of the group, none of which can hear it. But emu is excited by the idea of a mystical noise, so she decides she wants to go check it out. So the four of them sneak into the back room, and inside is a bunch of old game consoles, all unplugged. It’s dark in the room and they can barely see, going by the light of their phones. But as they walk deeper into the room, another light source appears. A faint pink light that grows stronger the further back they go. The room seems never ending, and akito is sure this room is deeper than the building is from the outside. It’s physically impossible, and yet, here they are. Eventually they find the source of the light. It’s another game console. The whole thing appears to be glowing faintly, and it’s the only one that seems to be working, the screen lit up and everything. It’s pink and decorated with yellow stars, and doesn’t appear to have a title on it. But the console is so cute that emu can’t help but immediately go to check it out without any sense of caution. Nene and akito seem to be the only ones questioning why it’s the only one on, and glowing. There’s four control sets under the screen, each with a joystick and the standard four buttons. The sides of the console, if they had looked, are decorated with depictions of cute, stuffed animal like mascots. Emu and toya can’t seem to pull themselves away from inspecting the game, and the other two have to admit that it is quite alluring… on the screen, in pixelly artwork, it just says start game, blinking as if it’s ready to be selected. So emu presses one of the buttons, and the screen changes. All four of them stand at a control station now. The screen shows four characters to select from. A pink cat, a green bunny, a blue panda, and an orange fox. They all select the animal of their respective color. And then a Jumanji Reboot moment happens and when they hit continue, instead of taking them to an instruction screen, a swirly pink portal like shape appears before their hands start to glow. They barely manage to exchange panicked looks before they’re sucked into the game console. In the game, they are in the bodies of their little plush avatars. They are in a beautiful looking world, in cute pastel colors with pretty stars and clouds. Akito of course panics, having no idea where they are or how to get back, and why they are toy animals. After a moment, they discover there is one single building amongst the lovely scenery. They approach it and enter the door, hoping to find something or someone to explain what’s happening to them. Both duos are reminded of their sekais, but neither bring it up, due to not being aware that other sekais exist. Plus, that won’t exactly help them leave in this situation. Once they get inside, everything has a brief moment of glitching. It causes them to panic once more, and during the glitch, the room flashes between pretty purples and pinks with lovely plants and welcoming decorations, to dark and run down and downright terrifying. Nene suggests looking outside for anything, because this place is super freaky. But akito says no. There has to be someone in here who can help them. It was the only building as far as the eye could see. They couldn’t give up now. So they set forth into the building, with it occasionally glitching around them every now and then. They search the whole place, finding no one. Finally they come across an attic. They go up and inside is a sparkly beautiful stone, similar to the ki stone in samurai rabbit. It’s floating in the air and takes up almost the whole space. But right in the middle is a little crack. Emu, morbidly curious, approaches the crack with a hand (paw?) outstretched.
As soon as akito realizes what she’s going to do he yells at her not to touch it, which in turn startles her. She jumps and spins around to face him, having been caught in the allure of the crystal and seeming to forget others were with her. As she turns around though she trips, and falls backwards into the crystal. The shining light around it flashes brighter at the contact, and the crack immediately grows larger from the impact, before completely shattering. Tons of rainbow colored lights zoom out of the remains of the crystal, as well as dark black and purple ones. They frantically fly and streak everywhere, a rainbow light slamming into each one of them, knocking them all out and making them glow once more. Every other light and shadow flees out of the house. When they wake up, they’re human again, laying on the floor outside of the game console, which is now off and not glowing. Around each of their wrists is a glowing bracelet in their respective colors. They all freak and rush to get out of there, discovering it is well into the night when they get outside, and although the arcade is still open, they don’t want to be there any longer. For a few days they avoid talking about it. No matter what they try they can’t remove the bracelets from their wrists, and if it weren’t for them, then they would have thought it was all a dream. That’s all I have so far but essentially the shadows and rainbows were trapped spirits, some good, some evil, and they accidentally released them all and now it’s their mission to capture them all again and enclose them. They might get help from the good ones and stuff too which might be fun.
(This is the concept summary copy and pasted from my notes app btw which is why it’s a bit weird)

Advent Calendar 03: 2 Fire Buttons, 101 Keys
Greetings, and welcome to Advent Calendar 2022! This year we're being self-indulgent and rambling about video games.
As usual, the Advent Calendar is also a pledge drive. Subscribe to my writing Patreon here by December 15th for at least $5/mo and get an e-card for Ratmas; subscribe for $20/mo (and drop me a mailing address) and you'll get a real paper one!
I hope you're all having a happy winter holiday season. Let the nerd rambling commence!
I am about the right age to have toyed with an 8-bit micro, but it's something I never got into. My father was in networking, then avionics design, when I was little, and did a lot of telework before "telework" was a word, so we always had at least one computer in the house bright enough to run CAD software. By the time I cared about how computers worked, we'd already graduated from the VIC-20 that took cartridges and plugged into a TV, to an Intel 8088 with dedicated amber monitor and peripherals. I skipped the whole Atari/Commodore thing and went straight to PC -- never learned much BASIC, but still remember an embarrassing amount about writing batch files in MS-DOS, which will actually be relevant later.
While early console RPGs were taking over our personal living room, a very different kind of RPG was taking shape on microcomputers. The two major differences were storage space and input style. A Nintendo controller (officially a "game pad") is basically a mutated joystick. It has four directions, two fire buttons, and two other dedicated buttons that usually handle system functions like pause or bringing up the menu. A computer has an entire keyboard full of things to bang on when you want to tell the game something. Not all microcomputers had dedicated arrow keys, and the WASD style of movement hadn't taken shape yet, but on the up side, you didn't have to A/B your way through a million menus to access your inventory.
The earliest licensed Dungeons & Dragons game I can find is Akalabeth (1979), which is actually slightly earlier than I expected. Kudos to the Apple ][ programmer that bashed that together. Observant viewers might have caught the name Lord British in the credits and gone, "The Ultima guy?" Yes! And the much more recognizable Ultima (1981) was not far behind.
youtube
Now, if you watch that video, you'll note that it starts with a very long and boring segment of someone pressing some numbers, thinking it over, pressing some more numbers, etc, and only after that does it loop back to the title screen and let you start an actual game. You'll be familiar with this tedious mathematical process if you've ever actually played tabletop D&D. After that you get dropped into what actually looks like an intricately detailed top-down world by the standards of 1981 (compare to the cartoony visuals of the contemporaneous COLECOVision Donkey Kong a couple days ago)... with a cluttered list of command hotkeys down at the bottom of the screen. Vive le clavier. If you want to know more about how Lord British achived these stunning graphics, I recommend this article over at The Digital Antiquarian. And if you'd like to see the much prettier 1986 re-release, take a look at it here.
The other thing of note is how often Ultima asks the player to insert a new disk. The size and storage requirements of a computer game was limited only by the number of diskettes you could convince your publisher to copy and your player to keep on hand. Cartridge games -- which did exist as an option for computers, but were universal for consoles -- were limited to however much ROM was physically in the cart, and if you were willing to let it drive up the price, a chunk of battery-backed save RAM.
For a long time, the Ultima series was to computer RPGs what Final Fantasy was to consoles. The main line ended with the 1999 release of Ultima IX: Ascension, which going by the leaked details of the plot they didn't use, was really meant to be THE END. Electronic Arts, who'd owned the IP since 1992, thought otherwise, and continued trying to capitalize on it until 2014, when its last unimpressive free-to-play effort full of microtransactions shut down.

Usb xbox 360 mac driver

USB XBOX 360 MAC DRIVER FOR FREE
USB XBOX 360 MAC DRIVER FOR MAC
USB XBOX 360 MAC DRIVER MAC OS
Until then, however, Microsoft's controller works perfectly well, and with a little bit of tweaking, you can get it to do whatever you need.
USB XBOX 360 MAC DRIVER FOR MAC
360Controller is only available on GitHub. Softpedia >Drivers >Joystick, Gamepad & Wheels >Other > Xbox 360 Controller Driver 0.16.2 for Mac OS. Xbox drivers come natively to PCs, but Macs need them added. First, you have to download and install the driver 360Controller (Free). That app will let you map the Xbox 360 controller's buttons to standard mouse and keyboard functions, so you can use your controller to do anything you want.Īpple seems closer than ever to actually bringing full apps to the Apple TV, and when it does, you have to think it will also create some kind of controller device (or include that functionality directly in iOS somehow). These steps also apply to any wired Xbox controllers, including Xbox 360 controllers, if you still have any of those around and want to use them. Format USB flash drive via Xbox 360 controller. Back to the main interface, click on Apply to commit the pending operation. Select the FAT32 in the File System menu and click on OK. But every once in a while you'll come across a game that requires you to use a keyboard, and for those times, you'll need to download a helper app, something like the Gamepad Companion (from the Mac App Store). Right click the USB flash drive and select Format Partition.
USB XBOX 360 MAC DRIVER FOR FREE
There is a very nice driver for the Xbox 360 controller available for free online, and it will cover you for a lot of games that already support controller setups. If the game you're trying to play doesn't directly support the controller, however, then things get a little more complicated. I haven't tried Steam's Big Picture mode on my Mac yet, but I presume it too will work just as well. And in some cases that's all you need - the OnLive app, for example, will make use of your controller right out of the box (which is actually easier than it works on Windows, incidentally, where you need to install an official driver), and there are other games around (I've been playing AirMech in my Chrome browser quite a bit lately) that will work great right away. The port on it is just a standard USB, so it should plug right into your Mac. In short, the best way to use a game controller with your Mac is just to use one of the better controllers out there: the wired version of Microsoft's Xbox 360 controller (or, if you wish, any compatible third-party version). Games that do not support joysticks can use Xbox devices through additional software such as GamePad Companion. It installs a HID (Human Interface Device) kernel extension and works at a low-level so any game that supports joysticks can use it.
USB XBOX 360 MAC DRIVER MAC OS
TUAW reader Jon emailed in the other day to ask about possible game controllers for Mac, and while we've covered this issue before, it has definitely been a while. This software enables the Xbox USB gamepad, DVD remote, and other Xbox devices on Mac OS X.

Doomception Hack Runs a Copy of Doom in Your Copy of Doom - download
Tumblr media
💾 ►►► DOWNLOAD FILE 🔥🔥🔥 DOOM Hack 2. First released in , DOOM introduced millions of gamers to the fast-paced, white-knuckle, demon-slaying action the franchise is known for. Relive the birth of the first-person shooter, wherever you go, and experience the classic demon-blasting fun that popularized the genre. Version history 2. We have also improved performance, and now support hz devices, which can be enabled in Video Options. The fast-paced FPS that changed gaming forever. Download for iOS. Request a Hack. Ratings 3. The old port of this actually had pretty good controls. This one is laughable. I end up basically walking around the whole time because moving my thumb halfway up the screen to move the proper speed is clunky and blocks the view. Automatic weapons are also not hold down to shoot like you might expect, you double tap for that as well. The old controls where there was a shoot button was awkward but made more sense. How unfortunate then with how bad these ports are. They may have fixed the issue with the slower music, but there is no reason for this game to run capped at 35 FPS with no option to change it. The aiming also feels terrible due to how your aim drifts whenever you swipe instead of just stopping. Thankfully, this can be bypassed by enabling a controller, but then you run into two more issues: non-rebindable controls, and more importantly, you cannot access the weapon wheel while using a controller, you can only cycle through weapons manually. Just let me hold down a bumper and use the analog stick to select a weapon instead of taking a millennium just to cycle through everything I have just for the weapon I want. What About Writing? I love doom, and when I saw it finally got an update for the most recent OS I was super excited to finally get to play on my iPhone again. Installation was fine, and the game looks pretty great although I wish it could take up more of the screen during gameplay but there is one glaring issue that removes all benefits and makes a download not worth it. The controls. The controls make this game almost completely unplayable, especially in the way that Doom is meant to be played: fast paced and frenetic action. With how poorly the controls were optimized for this release, it makes sustained fire for any gun difficult, and maneuvering extremely difficult because the aiming touch controls are very sluggish and non-responsive compared to how they should be. The old control style was fantastic. Bring that back and all will be well in the Doom mobile world because this update, as of now, honestly was a little insulting. I want to say I paid 7 or 8 dollars for the game but my memory is pretty bad, and after waiting years for it to be compatible again I would expect it not to have such a glaring oversight in playability. Please do consider fixing the controls. I remember playing this port and I refunded the game because of its terrible controls. However I heard the new update to Doom was out and this added better controls and widescreen. I bought the game and to my surprise it actually felt good ripping and tearing the demons. Widescreen made Doom SO much better. I will play Doom Mobile more now thanks to the update. The controls were good, and smooth. Fully customizable, including by size, and able to be moved around the screen. Unfortunately, there are a couple key things missing that hold this port back from greatness: 1 No controller or keyboard support. Doom was originally played using arrow keys and the space bar, no mouse required. Since iOS supports external keyboards, this would have been really cool. No side flipping got south paws, no movement joystick adjustment, to touch zone customization. If these were changed, this port would be 5 stars easy. I was watching a video on speedrun cheaters that has "DOOM" footage in it. That got me feeling nostalgic, thinking about the great fun playing it on the SNES: something thought to be a technological impossibilty. However, being the cautious consumer that I am, I read the bad ["Lowest Rated" in this case] reviews first to see what's what. Love the new opening screen. However, there are plenty of features from older versions for iOS that are missing, namely the option to switch your control scheme and the quick save feature. My gameplay is much more difficult without them. The advertisement also mentioned multiplayer but all I see is a single player option. I was expecting an updated version of this game, not a re-release as it seems that this is. One of my friends think Doom is [email protected] and Black Ops 2 is superior. He's dead wrong. This is the godfather of FPS games. Insulting this game is an extremely foolish thing to do. It's like insulting your parents because without them, you wouldn't be here; like if Doom wasn't here, we wouldn't have Call of Duty, Battlefield, Halo, etc. Anyways, few flaws which are very minor is the movement feels a bit sluggish. There are also some graphical bugs like enemies overlapping barrels when they're supposed to be behind them or whatever. Also, please change the music back to its original form. My favorite track, The Imp's Song, doesn't sound as good as the original. Still, fantastic game overall. If you love FPS games, definitely get this. That would complete me. I really appreciate this last update, especially bringing back the classic title screen! Overall, this is a fantastic port of a ln undisputed gaming classic and the latest update is certainly appreciated and most definitely a step in the right direction. Please keep up the great work devs! More By This Developer. You May Also Like. Request resources and features to be hacked The app will be hacked within three days of your request Select operating system Android iOS iPhone, iPad. Request has been sent.
