Could always go for some old man yaoi between Price and an older veteran reader so here are some ramblings.
[Old friends, pre relationship, yearning, beard buddies, ramblings/ no coherency].

The 141's mission calls for a specialization that they don't meet (at least not well enough to risk failure), but what would you know Price has an old buddy who can help. The thing is he's a veteran who's not all that interested in exiting his retirement especially considering he lost a limb. However he's not one to abandon those in need and with a little convincing he decides to assist, offering his expertise mostly off of the field.
In their downtime y/n and Price get to catch up and spend some time together over drinks. It's been a while since they've seen each other considering how differently they now lead their lives. Y/n is embarrassed to admit he's already getting grey hairs as Price questions his brutally short buzzcut. He never used to cut his hair like that even in his younger years. Price jokes that he's disappointed that y/n is trying to hide his new silver fox look. Y/n says he'll get to see it when it starts growing into his beard. Maybe it's the alcohol but the teasing lingers in both of their minds, feeling more sincere than joking.
Even if they've spent a lot of time apart there's still things they know about each other by heart. Particularly how apprehensive y/n is to being assisted with anything. There's no fragility allowed as he'd rather grin and bare it than accept help, especially with his new(ish) disability. Price doesn't speak on the matter, but he does get frustrated at the other man's stubbornness, a subtle crinkle to his eye as he watches his friend struggle.
Speaking of stubbornness, the 141 get to "enjoy" having two hardheaded older men on the same team. Double the scolding and double the exasperated sighing, somehow it's like being together has combined them into the ultimate grumpy old man. Laswell wouldn't admit it but once their voices start to layer over each other she tunes them out. They're gonna be going in circles for a while and it's near impossible to stop them. It would be almost comedic if it didn't happen all the damn time. ( Worst of all is that most of their arguments are them agreeing on something, but thinking the other misunderstood due to how they phrased their response).
Night times are often nostalgic, neither of them are heavy sleepers so if one wakes up so does the other. They try to get as much sleep in when they can, but if they feel like reminiscing over times long gone then who's to stop them. Stories about Price's younger years in training and y/n's experience with that one damn drill instructor who seemed to hate his guts. Stories about how shitty their first long range shots were and how they could barely even hit the target. Stories about all the times they found themselves in some form of trouble be it on the field or in base. Y/n remembers the time they had to share one shitty cot that they almost punched each other over. Price remembers when they were stuck in a tundra for over a month and were so excited to have a hot shower again they just went at the same time. Neither of them mention how much they actually enjoyed that closeness and how both of them were too cowardly to initiate anything. But they do mention the day they got split up, sent to entirely different countries. Y/n admits to being disappointed he hadn't gotten the chance to say goodbye... Price says he's glad they didn't, sometimes goodbye's like those are bad luck.
They take a moment to look at each other, see scars old and new, wrinkles forming in places that used to be so smooth. Price can't help but look at y/n's eyes, seeing that familiar color that never seemed to fade despite all its seen. He thinks back to that warm shower over a decade ago and how they looked then too. The steam that rose from y/n's chest, the subtle brush of skin they shared as they tried to dance around each other. He remembers that expectation of something more that never came.
They squeeze each other's hands, but the moment passes in silence and neither of them move. Eventually they break eye contact and drift back to sleep.
It seems even now they’re still too cowardly.

I have started using the term yaoi in an entirely ironic and humorous sense but it's incorporated fully into my everyday vocabulary which makes traversing conversations a bit difficult upon remembering phrases like "I love yaoi" or "in the mood for some yaoi this evening" are not things that can be said in 2024 without some very apprehensive side glances

The return of the term Yaoi to the tumblr ecosystem is giving me war flashbacks. we are 2 steps away from Seme and Uke, god forbid Lemon shows back up.
if yaoi wasn't the newest funny haha word people are using in casual conversation i would not be using it at all but unfortunately the internet has warped my personal lexicon to unimaginably unrecognizable levels and at this point i'm not sure i can call it ironic anymore

i thoght the yaoi thing was joke? :(
its /hj. tbc i haaaate most yaoi the majority of it is tasteless voyeuristic erotica which isnt like an evil thing to make but still extremely bad. i think its funny and i mostly read it cos its hilarious. more thoughts under the cut
it's misrepresented and #misunderstood especially by western gay people. its not representation, it's not 'led by queer people', and the difference between 'yaoi' and 'boy's love' is marginal. it's predominantly heterosexual women who enjoy writing drawing reading two (or more..) guys fuck which is fine. yaoi vs bl is often used as both a categorical distinction (yaoi is erotica, bl isn't) and a moral one (yaoi is cringe/homophobic/bad and bl is pure/wholesome/untainted) which is like fundamentally so wrong if you know anything about the genre.
the history is really interesting. It's roots are firmly in shojou manga, as in, explicitly for young women. early works are often taboo-breaking and deal with sexual abuse, incest, etc. an early muse for the genre was bjorn andressen as tadzio in the film 'death in venice' and if you know anything about that film and andressen says A Lot. shonen ai (literally boy love) was originally a term which was pederastic in nature but became the name for the genre. to crib from the wikipedia article cos it summarises it well:
While the term shōnen-ai historically connoted ephebophilia or pederasty, beginning in the 1970s it was used to describe a new genre of shōjo manga (girls' manga) featuring romance between bishōnen (lit. "beautiful boys"), a term for androgynous or effeminate male characters. Early shōnen-ai works were inspired by European literature, the writings of Taruho Inagaki, and the Bildungsroman genre Shōnen-ai often features references to literature, history, science, and philosophy; Suzuki describes the genre as being "pedantic" and "difficult to understand", with "philosophical and abstract musings" that challenged young readers who were often only able to understand the references and deeper themes as they grew older.
Yaoi, on the other hand:
Coined in the late 1970s by manga artists Yasuko Sakata and Akiko Hatsu, yaoi is a portmanteau of yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi (山[場]なし、落ちなし、意味なし), which translates to "no climax, no point, no meaning".[f] Initially used by artists as a self-deprecating and ironic euphemism, the portmanteau refers to how early yaoi works typically focused on sex to the exclusion of plot and character development; it is also a subversive reference to the classical Japanese narrative structure of introduction, development, twist, and conclusion
by the way, that [f] note is: "The acronym yamete, oshiri ga itai (やめて お尻が 痛い, "stop, my ass hurts!") is also less commonly used."
Like the term fujoshi, meaning 'rotten girl', is the same it's very silly and self-deprecating. That's so fun! I think the yaoi genre in general is a really interesting phenomena that's rooted so deeply in Japan as a culture. I think it's great that women are able to sincerely enjoy something fun, I think it's great that women were able and continue to have successful careers in writing, and I also think it's mostly bad.
A lot of modern stuff, especially the works getting pumped out of korea by genuinely evil webtoon companies, suffer from the fundamental problems with serialisation. It putters from chapter to chapter and every single one is the same as the other. A lot of Japanese bl/yaoi is in the form of short fiction, about 5-10 chapters, and again there are fundamental problems with this. they often suffer from too much crammed in AND from so little stretched thin.
I also think yes morally or 'representationally' or whatever they are like Pretty cringe. like sorry uke/seme is BAD. sexual assault is not even handled so much as it is kicked around. Women are non-existent at best and horrifically sexist at worst. Also the writing, though ofc i read (often fan-) translated works, just sucks.
You guys don't know how bad it gets. like ok example.... it's hard giving examples cos most of its just boring or bad in a lame way. okay there's this korean rom-com drama webtoon about a boss and his employee and the boss is actually an immortal snake-deity who fell in love with this guy and his employee is the reincarnation of that guy. sounds fine right? well the snake boss has two dicks. So.

U realize yuri and yaoi are terms used ironically right. The actual used terms are gl/bl. That's why calling everything yuri or yaoi even if it bends the actual meaning (which fetishizes gay ppl!!) is a thing in the first place. Mayhaps calling gl/sapphics yuri for real is not the feminist take you think it is. Also calling everything yuri including boys is very often done by genderqueer sapphics anyway being as what's actually "yuri" is 90% thin feminine cis women. It's just. A really silly thing to be getting mad over coming from a genderfluid lesbian who loves when everything is called Yuri cuz it's funny and weirdly comforting
okay way to show your ass in my inbox and be wrong right out of the gate. yuri is gl. like there is no meaningful difference this is not a yaoi/bl situation. people fetishize yuri but yuri in and of itself is not fetishization or a fetish term. it encompasses both erotic and unerotic art. its literally just a normal ass term the same way shojo or shonen or seinen is. like okay lets proceed under the assumption youre an idiot, congrats anon. now i dont give a fuck how genderqueer you are the post is complaining about how people claim to like yuri, which is inherently about wlw, but never fucking talk about women to just continue shipping men and talking about men over women. its rather ""silly"" that you talk about feminism but dont actually care about feminism. what people see when they think "yuri" is another fucking discussion and irrelevant to this. but i mean hey good on you if you think conflating terminology is funny. im betting real money youre lame about guy yuri anyway

Why are the terms "yaoi/yuri" okay to use again?
I know yuri technically was okay to use but it just confused me since a few years back yaoi was seen as a term you shouldn't use cuz of it's actual meaning and it'd just be better to say mlm or bl if you ship boyxboy content.
Is it just because it's reclaimed in a more ironic sense?

i dont remember how long ago it was, maybe 2015 where there was a big push to not strictly categorize things as yuri and yaoi and using fujoshi/fudanshi/himejoshi identities anymore and i thought that was a pretty good idea since a gay person making gay fanart isnt the same as straight women making yaoi bl content exclusively for other straight women, like those terms simply didnt work anymore i guess. and it made a comeback being used ironically (and then genuinely) which i also cant help myself partaking in because it was comedic and fun. and now it sucks bc the whole identity embrace thing and defining literally everything as yaoi and yuri is so annoying now and im pretty sure isn't ironic anymore.

Wild card for the salty asks, any 8 questions for a fandom of ur choice GO
i used a random number generator for this so i wouldnt be too biased LMAOO ill go with whatever fandom comes to mind ty jug my biggest hater enabler 🫶
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?
i think most popular ships i tend to like purely as platonic 💀 cr*menos h*incurr ph*nlumi are all pairs that i think have nice canon interactions but they're the kind of dynamic that always feels butchered as ship... judging from the ships i actually do like i think i prefer pairs who are more like "argumentative + just deals with it" rather than both of them bickering a lot...?? but i'm also definitely biased i Rarely if Ever like popular ships let alone the most popular
6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
no 👍 jk ok wait let me think about this... yeah no i've never gone back after deciding i hate a ship, there are a few that i (kombucha girl)'d about after being neutral or never considering them but never ones i actively hated
8. Have you received anon hate? What about?
you know about this one already but genderbending a yaoi ship HAHAHAHFHHAH and i'd do it again!
15. Unpopular opinion about the manga/show?
drgl didn't end prematurely o<-< in terms of the game yes but i think the story was pretty obviously reaching an end so that if they had to continue it they'd probably have to do some stupid bullshit to prolong it... not that i don't think some things could've been expanded on more but i kinda. prefer that it has an ending at all
17. Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen…
HOM act 3 should Not have had a ph*nlumi fight omg i'm still so bitter about this THEY WOULD NOT ACT LIKE THAT. i get that they had to have some stupid conflict so that damien gets the transcendent stone instead but it's not like the fight was playable anyway so why did it have to be an actual fight... i know that entire act is just fanservice with the modern clothing but holy shit
20. What is the purest ship in the fandom?
m*lsarisse... maybe.. i'm also thinking about hikari/ochette a little recently bc i have seen like one (1) artwork of them and i think they're kinda nice but i still way prefer them platonically
25. How would you end XXX/Would you change the ending of XXX?
i wish,.. kazan got unique dialogue for hikari protagonist.... i don't like protag favouritism when it comes to 8path either but in that situation it felt so awkward to not have him say anything different snzz
27. Least shippable character?
ironically i think euden bc even though the early stories pushed him as a harem protag so hard i think they realized this shit. isn't working abjkdhjgka there's a few ships i've considered with him but i think they all fall apart if i think too hard
salty ask list
