"Kriffing hell, he’d fallen asleep. On Boba.  They’d stayed back to back, but Din’s head had leaned over onto Boba’s shoulder. The poor guy had been holding Din’s weight for—a quick check of his chrono eased some of his guilt; it’d only been ten minutes." Mand'alor Cabur chapter 14 by @nautilicious
This is one of my all-time favourite BobaDin fics, please give it a read and heap some love on the author, they really deserve it! (Their Boba is amazing. He isn't actively present all that much, but even then he has a presence, you know? and it's so good, I love him so much there!!!)

Can’t Get You Off My Mind*
pairing: dadsbestfriend harry x reader
warnings:smut, unprotected sex, fingering, dirty talk
summary: with YN’s mother out of town for the weekend, and most likely Harry, YN has decided to get a little wild. what she doesn’t know is that she should check her sources before inviting people into her home.
Tumblr media
~
Harry stands in shock at the bottom of the stairs, anger bubbling in his veins as he sees YN straddling some guy with her face in his chest, grinding against him. His left hand is beneath her shirt, groping her breast and tweaking her nipple. The two of them jump at the sound of a throat being cleared, YN immediately jumping off of the guy.
“YN, can I talk to you for a moment? Alone?” Harry grits, his arms folded as he approaches YN and some guy she’d brought home. He truly doesn’t even remember his name, and he sure as hell doesn’t plan to learn it.
She looks at the guy guiltily, sighing in disappointment. “I think you should leave,” she tells him, watching him hurriedly run from the house, his hand over his very obvious boner from having such a beautiful girl on top of him.
The second the door clicks shut, Harry is turning to YN in anger. “What the fuck was that?” he grits out, watching her struggle to find the words to explain herself. “What, you think that because I’m ‘out of town’ that you can invite anyone you like into my home? You think you can be a slut on the couch that I bought?“ he demands, watching her shake her head.
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking,” she replies, not knowing how she’s going to get out of this one.
“You’re damn right you weren’t thinking,” he laughs darkly, unbuckling his belt. “Get over here and get on your knees. You’re in trouble,” he tells her, watching her scramble to obey.
She needs no further instruction, placing her hands behind her back and wrapping her lips around his cock before sucking on the head lightly. He hisses at the feeling, throwing his head back as she flicks her tongue over his slit gently.
“Just like that. See, I knew you could be a good girl,” he teases, grabbing the back of her head to push her all the way down his cock. She chokes for a second but then she relaxes, all of his prior training coming into play. For a moment she forgets to breathe, so he pulls out, letting her get some air.
She chokes for a few seconds before she’s wiping the saliva from her chin and neck. “Make sure you breathe through your nose,” he reminds her, waiting for her nod of recognition before he’s sliding his cock into her warm mouth once more, holding her there.
He feels her throat contract and release him, making him moan and look down at her. The sight makes his cock twitch right then; he sees tears streaming down her face as he fucks her throat, mascara staining beneath her eyes. Her eyes are locked on him, making him moan as his orgasm approaches.
Fuck, she looks so pretty for him, on her knees with tears on her face. He would have her down there all day, every day if he could. The thought of her keeping his cock warm with her mouth has him spiralling, sending him over the edge with a sharp thrust as he cums down her throat.
When he’s done, he’s pulling out and rubbing his hand up and down her back as she coughs from the feeling. “Good girl, did so well for me,” he praises, letting her catch her breath. The second she’s recovered, he’s grabbing her shoulders and harshly pulling her up. “Don’t think you’re off the hook, though. You’re not getting off easy tonight,” he warns her, watching her nod.
Making his way to the couch, he sits down and motions for her to come over to him. She stands in front of him, awaiting instruction. “Take all of your clothes off and get over my knee. I don’t want to have to tel you again,” he demands, YN moving quickly and taking off her tight, short dress.
When she’s over his knee, he smiles in satisfaction at her compliance. “I’m going to spank y’now,” he tells her, running a hand over her ass. “What are your colours?” he questions, needing to know if she’s in the right state of mind for this.
“Green, yellow, and red,” she replies obediently, making him hum at her words.
“Good. And what colour are you now?”
“Green,” she responds, and he nods, wasting no time before landing a sharp smack onto her ass. She cries out quietly, squirming at the slight pain before he’s soothing the area with his hand.
He repeats the action on each cheek multiple times, stopping at 30. By the time he’s done, she’s sniffling quietly and her eyes are glossy, Harry helping her sit up onto her heels to look at him.
“All done now, baby. What’s your colour?“ he asks her gently, knowing it was a lot. When she responds with yellow, he’s sighing in sympathy. “Alright, won’t punish you anymore. Are you ready for bed?” he asks, confused when she shakes her head.
“No, could we just relax a bit, maybe y’can play with me until I calm down?”
“Of course, what do you want me to do?”
“Can y’just eat me out or something maybe?” she questions timidly, making him smile softly at her.
“Of course, cmon. Let’s get you in the bed, hm?” he suggests, watching her nod eagerly. The two stand from the couch and make their way upstairs, Harry trailing closely behind YN.
She excitedly jumps onto the bed, immediately getting on her back. A small laugh leaves her as she hears Harry mumble something about her being a ‘greedy little brat’. Before he climbs onto the bed, he asks her one more question.
“Do you want one of your toys or just m’mouth?” to which she replies, “I just need you.”
The words have him groaning underneath his breath, making his way to the bed before he climbs on, spreading her legs as he gets comfortable.
He looks to her for confirmation before diving in, licking and sucking at her as she whines above him. With each swipe of his tongue, her orgasm is inching closer and closer, and her mind is foggy with the way he can break her down in just seconds.
When he repositions himself to slide a finger into her, though, her eyes are squeezed shut and her hands are flying to grip onto his hair. He immediately find her g-spot, hooking his fingertip on and stimulating it to the same pace he’s working on her clit.
The slight sting of her hands in his hair makes him groan into her, the vibrations sending her over the edge with a sharp intake of air, her legs shaking and her back arched as he stimulates her through it. He keeps at it until she’s arching away in overstimulation, propping up onto his knees.
“Do you think you can take me tonight or should we get cleaned up and ready for bed?” he asks, watching her closely.
“No, no. Need you to fuck me please,” she begs, making him chuckle.
“Alright, alright,” he responds, grabbing a condom from the bedside drawer. “On y’side, facing the door,” he demands, and she’s instantly turning, her heart beating in anticipation as he slips behind her once he has the condom on.
Wasting no time, he lines his cock up with her dripping hole, sliding in slowly before resting there for a moment.
“Oh,” she gasps out, her jaw dropped as she can feel him in her stomach. “Right there,” she confirms, nodding her head. He laughs darkly behind her, reaching his dominant hand up to wrap it around her throat, pressing down on the spot that makes her head floaty.
That combined with his brutal thrusts has her in literal heaven, and with how wrecked she is for him, she’s already about to cum. He can sense it, squeezing even harder on the pressure point before leaning up to her ear.
“Did he ever fuck you like this?” he questions, thrusting so hard that her body flies forward with every thrust just for him to yank her back onto him.
“I- I never fucked him,” she manages to get out, her hands fisting the sheets as he wrecks her. With each thrust, the tip of his cock is hitting her g-spot dead on, making her squeeze her thighs together and push her add back onto him, chasing her orgasm.
“Yeah, I bet you didn’t,” he spits, doubling his efforts and smirking as she cries out even louder. “Because you know i’ve ruined this cunt for anyone else,” he decides, thrusting as deep as he can go one last time, feeling her lock down on him.
“That’s it, cream on my cock,” he moans, his face scrunching up as his orgasm takes over as well, a grunt leaving him as he fills the condom.
He stays inside her, buried to the hilt until the both of them can breathe normally, and then he’s pulling out gently and climbing up to dispose of the condom. Making his way back over to the fucked out girl, he presses a kiss to her forehead. “Cmon, let’s get you cleaned up.”

your post about ReLight is really interesting! I wanted to try it out but I understand nothing lol would you share some tips/tricks/little tutorial for dumbs like me on how to use it/setup for The Sims?
Hi anon!
It's not a massively involved shader, it's really simple, so a full tutorial would probably be a little over the top. Using it in TS4 is no different to using it in any other game.
The first thing I'd do is look at the preprocessor definition section at the bottom of the shader settings and change number of lights to 4 and hit enter. It'll reload and then you'll have 4 different lights to play with.
For the settings at the top, you want Use Smooth Normals turned on, and then all the boxes under Shadows ticked. For Shadow Mode you'll get the best quality with Trace All selected, and Ultra for Shadow Quality, but you can play around with these if your performance suffers (bear in mind I'm using a 980ti and hotsampling to larger resolutions and I'm fine with those settings).
Leave Shadow Sharpness at its default unless you want to go for a specific look, and you can keep Z Thickness at default too. You can play around with Z Thickness if shadows look like they're starting or ending in weird places. They're never going to be 100% accurate anyway, but you can sometimes coax them into not being truly awful.
One of the most important settings is down at the bottom: Visualize Light Position. Turn this on and it'll show you a round dot where your lights are positioned. This is really useful for lining them up exactly where you want them. Then, when you're done, you can turn them off (although they will disappear when you close the ReShade menu anyway, but this setting is useful for people like me who sometimes keep the ReShade menu open when taking screenshots so I can keep tweaking).
You'll see 4 sections that each start with a checkbox that says Active. Those are your 4 lights. Tick the ones you want to use. Then you can start moving them.
Next to Position there are 3 boxes, and they each represent respectively: left-right, up-down, backwards-forwards. Play around sliding each of them and see where your dot of light goes. You'll quickly get the hang of how to move the lights around using those position numbers.
Below that is Tint. It's easiest to click on the box of colour and colour pick than it is to manually change the RGB numbers. This controls the colour of your light.
Below that is Intensity. I think by default the lights are set up at the maximum level of 1.00 but that's super super bright, so bring that down considerably. You can use this to fine tune exactly how much illumination you want once you've set up the position.
And that's really it. You can use the lights to add more accurate light fall-off and shadows from in-game light sources like lamps, streetlights, windows, etc. You can also use it to just brighten a character's face a bit more for a clearer picture. Or you can really go to town and add completely fake and dramatic lights. It's up to you.
If you find that 4 lights isn't enough, you can't add more without editing the actual shader code. However, you can just duplicate the shader, so then you can have 8 lights, or 12, or 16, however many times you duplicate it.
To duplicate ReLight, create a copy of the shader in your shader folder, and give it a unique name (for example, qUINT_ReLight2.fx). Then, open it up in a text editor (I use Notepad++) and scroll all the way down to the bottom. You'll see a section that says
technique qUINT_ReLight
edit that so it matches the name you gave your copy, so in this case
technique qUINT_ReLight2
Then you can use them both alongside each other. I do start to experience a performance impact when using a second version, so bear that in mind.
I'm sure the better option would be to edit the shader code to add the ability for more lights directly in the first shader, but you'd need to be semi-knowledgeable about what to change. You're not often going to need more than 4 anyway, so it's overkill.

19/11/2023
Hey everyone! Time for the bi-weekly tumblr update for Steamberry stuffs!
Summary
Finished writing all routes up through the end of chapter 9
Started working on editing for now
Added in-game achievements
Received some new BG art
Ramble
Okay, so writing-wise, I wrote Yren's content up through the end of chapter 9. Also revamped my end-route summaries for Yren and Raif.
The current word count is 426,000 words.
But I decided to hold off on finishing the endings for the four remaining routes. The main reason for this is that I have planned a lot of early-story changes that are going to shift the trajectory of the route endings. And I was really struggling with how to construct the route endings with those planned changes in a more nebulous state.
I usually try to avoid working out of order because I find it is not conducive to forward progress. But there are some points when you have to break the rules and go back to make important edits because you need them there in order to be able to move forward.
I'm kind of at that point.
So I decided I would fully edit Asher's route, which will allow me to inject all those planned changes into the story which will make it much easier to construct endings that call back to that earlier foreshadowing.
So writing-wise, that's what I've been doing this week. I am currently up to Chapter 6 in the edit (which means I'm a little less than half through the route).
Other Stuff:
I have received new BGs of course. Those are coming in at a fairly steady rate of 1.5 - 2 weeks each.
I also have decided to add in-game achievements to WSC. I've been thinking about it for a while but putting it off since I know that one more screen (like an achievements gallery) means more tweaks to the UI. But I finally sucked it up and did it anyway.
I've also been playing with a colour slider for Wil's sprite. I'm not going to go into detail about it here because I've talked about it more in depth on Patreon and will continue to post most of the details there.
But the idea is that instead of choosing from 3 skin tones and 2 hair colours, there would be colour sliders allowing for a much greater range of selection. One of the big concerns with colour sliders is whether or not the recolours can be made to look as good as recolouring manually - which has always been why I've stayed away from them.
The more complex shading styles have always struggled with colour sliders. But a developer friend - Feniks - has made a really cool and dynamic shader that actually can recreate even painterly or non-outlined art styles with incredible accuracy.
Using a slider is really useful because it increases the variations the player gets while *reducing* my work load. Instead of having to recolour manually, I would actually only need to colour everything once in grey scale.
Of course, it's not as easy as just dumping in the code and art. It requires some experimentation and learning but right now it is looking like I will be able to make it work. So I may be able to show off some examples in the future.
Screenshots:
None this time...
Upcoming Weeks:
I am currently editing Chapter 6 of asher/common routes and there are some pretty substantial edits I have to make.
It's always tricky to estimate what I will get done editing wise because editing does not flow at a more or less even pace like writing. Chapter 5, 6, and 7 had (and will have) major updates and changes so it may take a while to get through them. Though I'm already through with Ch 5. So...that's one of three.
Anyway.
And I'm also working on the GS lore book, still (LoL. 🙃). Someone today reminded me that I still need to go through all the deleted content to see if anything is salvageable for the lore book too.
😭
Thank you so much to that person (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. And you need to answer for your crimes, my friend.) 👀

player: Kostas Tsimikas words: 914 request: Kostas Tsimikas - no pref - 500 - 900 - So Kos and her have been dating for a few months now but no one at the club knows. So when, at the club Christmas party, they end up under the mistletoe (I'm sure Robbo decorated every single doorway with it) and he's like "let's give them a show" and kisses her in a way that steals her breath away
A/N: a huge thank you to @percervall for the help with this one. I am blowing kisses at you, I couldn't have done this without you.
Tumblr media
This year, things are being done a little differently at the club. Usually, menial tasks were delegated to anyone and everyone in order to get them accomplished and it doesn’t usually matter who does them, as long as they do. The design of the room and organising it was left to someone that the club paid and it was usually done to the incredibly high standard that you would expect. This year, the players have been tasked with something each.
Kos has the honour of placement cards. She watched him agonising over designs at home - wanting to make sure that the people he knew well enough had something that was tailored to them. He’d purchased a Cricut and made them this way, setting them all out across their dining room table to see how they looked laid out. He’d tweaked them, bought fancy pens and added small flourishes.
It wasn’t something that took over, but he certainly took pride in the ones he made and it showed as he gently laid them out on the carefully decorated tables. The room looks amazing, Virgil and Alisson had done an incredible job, though she does suspect their wives may have had a hand in helping. The colour scheme was spot on and certainly provided the perfect photo opportunity that the club would no doubt be taking.
Out of everything available, she expected Andy to be in charge of Secret Santa, or something fun. Upon finding out that he was in charge of flowers and in turn, mistletoe, she had mixed expectations of how it would end up. And yet, the bouquets that adorn the room and complete the tables are stunning. He walks around now, the usual “Robbo” grin upon his face as he interacts with everyone while wearing his flower crown of holly, berries, mistletoe and a few colour scheme flowers in there too. When he turns around, exposing his back to her, she notices a little sprig of mistletoe tucked in his back pocket for unsuspecting victims.
“He’s going to get us, you know.” She comments, holding her wine glass closer to her chest as she huddles close to Kostas who has approached her far too quickly for her liking. He scrambled through the crowd of people who had been filing in now for the past half an hour and the once empty room they’d entered is now bustling with people and music is now being played through the speakers.
“He doesn’t know. He won’t.” But deep down, Kostas knows that Andy knows. He’s seen the looks being thrown his way and he knows it’s a matter of time before they’re outed. It may not be tonight, but this was the start of it. Robbo would watch their reactions and slowly start to make little comments when they’re back in training. And Kostas knows he’ll struggle to hold it all together but Andy thrives on reactions and he’ll keep at it like a dog on a bone.
“You know what he’s like.”
“I do, and he won’t.”
He wants nothing more than to pull her closer to him by the small of her back, his hand snaking to her waist and press his lips to any part of her that she’ll let him - whether that be her hairline, her temple, the space between her eyebrow and eye, her cheek, nose or of course, her lips.
He tried to get as many kisses as he possibly could before they headed out in separate cars, not wanting to arouse any suspicion because despite the few blissful months of dating, it’s come at the cost of it being in secret. Kostas is certain that no-one at the club would have an issue with their relationship but he didn’t want it out there just yet and initially, she’d wholeheartedly agreed. She’d seen too many relationships collapse once it became public and yet, it was becoming harder to keep it a secret. Not because others were catching on but because neither of them wanted to stay away from one another any more.
“Well, looky what we have here.” Andy’s voice sounds behind them and they both groan in unison. “My favourite “non couple but are so a couple” couple.” he grins as Kostas shoots him a look. “Oh come on. If you keep giving me that look I’ll be forced to bring out the gentleman doth protests too much, methinks line.”
“So leave and we won’t have to give you that look,” she comments, giving Andy a little nudge with her elbow and a crooked smile.
“Oh it’s we now is it? You said that so naturally.” her smile falters and she realises too much has been said. She knows Robbo knows and the look that she spots on Kostas’ face confirms this.
“Fuck it,” her beautiful Greek boyfriend hisses, downing the rest of his drink before he moves quickly, swiping the mistletoe from behind Andy’s back and holds it above her head. “One of the team’s biggest gobshites isn’t going to stop so what do you say? Kiss me?”
“Where did you learn the word gobshite?” Robbo asks but his words are drowning out as she steps forward, toe to toe with her secret boyfriend. Her hands move to his waist and to his nape. When her head turns this way, his turns that way and they give a nervous chuckle to one another as they begin to lean in, noses rubbing together before their lips finally meet.

Hey You!
Ok I was just infatuated with your sneak peak for GC Ch. 25 omg. I had to look at it over and over again since yesterday. Really I love your AI art for this series. This is exactly how I picture the boys in my head. Sirius' hair I'm dying. I've already spent my time using AI to create portraits of them, and it was just rubbish. Maybe I'm not advanced enough to use it properly. But I just had a look at you last art again and I just have to ask you! I have so many questions. Which tools do you use to create it? Do you rework the pics with other software like Photoshop or something? And most important, and propably the most improper question: what do you tell the AI to do exactly? You don't have to answer this one. I don't want to steal your style or anything, I'd just like to know how you get them pictured so accurate you know? And how much time do you spend in average to be satisfied with a picture to publish it for GC?
Yeah I hope I'm not rude asking you this, but I'm a big fan of your work 😭
Have a nice week! 🤍
I find it hilarious I got this question just when I was fighting with AI to do what I wanted it to do lol.
There are a lot of questions, so I'll try to be as detailed as possible. I talked about the AIs I used on this post. But basically, I recommend Bing's Image Creator that's powered by Dall-e 3.
I do rework the pics, not always, but AI always seems to confuse hair colours, gives Sirius a sandy brown and Remus black, so I do find myself switching that often (I use things like picsart, facelab, procreate and makeup+ for this). I have also done some face altering things here and there, especially when the faces don't look exactly like I want them to, for example in this one:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wasn't quite satisfied with Sirius' face so I altered the features a little more so that they looked exactly like they looked in my head. This minor alterations I find myself doing rather often on the pictures that will be the official ones.
Now the time I spend until I'm satisfied varies, sometimes the AI image is perfect and I use it straight, sometimes I have try a few times over and over until I get the exact result I want, and that takes much more time. Maybe like 30-40 minutes to get the image and the side (aesthetic) pics I add to the sides.
Now, the most important question, what do I say? Again it varies, sometimes I find myself tweaking and altering things arounf until I get exactly what I want. For this image in particular I said something like this:
16 year old Remus Lupin (sandy blond hair, golden-brown eyes, scars on his face, handsome)holding back a 16 Sirius Black 16 year old Sirius black (long curly hair, delicate & soft features, pretty and handosme, grey-blue eyes). Remus has his hand in Sirius shoulder, they both look tense, like they want to stop a fight. Defense against the dark arts classroom. realistic art.
I remember I changed it later, to Hogwarts classroom and students standing behind but, once I get the basics of the composition I tweak things around until I have exactly what I want.
Now I find AI has some issues with side profiles, maybe I haven't cracked it yet, but I spent all my energy on Bing trying to get the right composition for an image for next week's episode and it was not cooperating with me.
I asked for this:
16 year old Remus Lupin (sandy brown hair, golden-brown eyes, scars on his face, handsome) and young Sirius black (long curly hair, delicate & soft features, pretty and handosme, grey-blue eyes, gryffindor). Remus covers Sirius mouth with his hand and he is pressing his chest onto Sirius’, they’re front to front (we see their profiles), foreheads almost touching . Restricted section of the library. they’re hiding from someone. realistic art.
And kept getting Remus standing behind Sirius:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don't get me wrong, I loved most of this, they look amazing! But it wasn't exactly my vision. Even wasted $15 usd on DALL·E hoping it would make it better but I was very disappointed (Bing is so much better and FREE).
Eventually, I got one image that did exactly what I wanted and I'm currently reworking it to make it exactly what I want, we'll see how it goes in the end.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But yeah, I've spent almost all day working on this (using my free time at work), and only one out of all worked, so time spent on it really, really varies.
Hope you find this helpful darling, and if you managed to get the image I've struggling with to work, it'd be really cool if you shared it with me.

Sunny, is there anywhere we can watch your drawing process? Lines and colours are sooooo cool
just my really old speedpaints on YT! I kinda stopped trying to record my process bc whenever I do it ends up either being a pic I never finish or I get tired of opening the recorder every time I work on the pic across multiple days/weeks/whenever 💀
but basically 1. I choose a bg color I want depending on what the picture is gonna be, if there's no specific setting/lighting I choose neutral colors r de-saturated pink/yellow blue etc depending from what would suit the scene more, otherwise I choose something based on what I'm gonna put in the bg if anything (unless I'm referencing a specific palette, all my colors are just chosen based on what I think would look nice and then I tweak them with the hue and saturation tool if needed)
2. I do the sketch, most of the time it's also going to be my lines once I clean it up a bit, if it's a complicated pose it's possible I will do a separate very messy sketch just to get the poses down and then I sketch again over it
3. coloring: if it's an illustration it's possible I will be coloring random parts of the sketch before I'm even done with it just to see what's it going to look like moving forward since usually the coloring is part of the main focus, if it's a simpler pic or a comic panel where I use flatter colors anyway, I usually make sure my lines are fully done first so that I can use the wand selection tool and fill in each part faster
4. fixing/painting over parts of the pic on a separate layer if I need to (it makes it faster to edit something rather than tweaking the individual layers)
5. sometimes there will be an overlay layer on top or I use the curve tool in PS to tweak the contrast and some hues (also the gradient map tool in clip studio is interesting for tweaking colors a little, I use that sometimes)
hope this helps! :>

W.RIOTHESLEY HEADCANONS
Tumblr media
quick note: i've avoided putting down too many hcs until he's released & we have more info on him from things like voice lines & story quests, but these particular hcs wouldn't leave me alone, so... (some things may get tweaked to fit canon where necessary, or they might not. we'll see)
w.riothesley suffers from chronic pain, mostly isolated to his hands, but some of his scars can also have periods of high sensitivity. he's a silent sufferer, refusing to acknowledge the pain until it's unbearable (which is when he'll concede to taking something for it). s.igewinne isn't fooled by his denials, of course, and probably finds ways to help him ease his pain without drawing attention to it.
in connection with the above, i've mentioned before that he's a habitual knuckle-cracker. this is done more out of necessity than just a simple habit, as his joints get incredibly painful if he goes too long without cracking them. if he flexes his fingers in a quiet room, little pops and snaps are audible.
the gloves he wears aren't just for aesthetic (or for brawling), but also help with his pain. they're sort of like compression gloves, providing support and warmth to the joints. he very rarely takes them off (and they were possibly given to him by s.igewinne or another party*)
w.riothesley is colourblind - specifically tritanopia. this is why he dresses in mostly monochromatic tones and uses flashes of colours he can easily recognise. he has a colour wheel chart in a drawer in his office that someone** gave him, which labels different shades for him in case he ever needs it.
he has fangs on his top row of teeth. just little ones - looks like he just has slightly pronounced canines, at a casual glance***
he prefers his baths/showers incredibly hot (probably too hot). he was once recommended heat to soothe aching joints and it quickly became one of his favourite relaxation techniques. when he gets the time to do so, he'll languish in a hot bath until the water's cold.
*the person who gave him his gloves is s.igewinne by default, but can be changed to a specific muse in threads
**likewise, the person who made his colour chart can be changed in individual threads. i haven't decided yet who gives it to him by default.
***this one may change down the line - only in that the fangs may become more pronounced!

How to use GameMaker's filters for lighting!
Got a new lighting system for ProtoDungeon 3. Take a look!
I had a similar effect in 1 and 2:
Tumblr media
The difference? Now I'm using GameMaker's new filter system, and it seems to make things run much more performantly. I wanted to share with you how it was done!
First, a little on how the effect works:
Behold a daytime scene from ProtoDungeon 3!
Tumblr media
For a cool nighttime effect, instead of just making things darker, let's employ a Hollywood trick and shift everything blue:
Tumblr media
Okay and now the fun part: lighting! For that we just don't do the blueshift in a particular area (if you've tried this before, you know it's easier said than done)
Tumblr media
Here's how it's done!
Part 1 - The Filter
ProtoDungeon and The Waking Cloak already use palette shifting to represent nighttime thanks to Pixelated Pope's excellent palette swap shader, (which I still highly recommend for individual layers or sprites!), but there are some limitations when trying to apply a palette swap effect to the entire game, and I kept bumping up against those limitations.
Cue GameMaker's new filter layers! Filter layers are basically just built-in shaders that apply to everything below them.
Tumblr media
There's a lot of kinds of filters. Here's an example of a Contrast/Brightness filter (which I will eventually be using to replace my existing janky shader):
Tumblr media
So how did I get Night_Filter working? What I've got above isn't an out-of-the-box filter
I tried a few methods here. Color Balance, Color Filtering, and Colorize all do neat things and are more than capable of making a nice "blueshift" (and I may still use them for tweaks later). However, I wanted to stick strictly to my palette, meaning when I blueshift the daytime colors to nighttime colors, all those nighttime colors are also in my palette. Very recently, the LUT Color Grading filter was added to GameMaker, and this provided a perfect opportunity.
Tumblr media
Okay, so what is LUT Color Grading? LUT stands for "lookup table." You have an image, the LUT Texture, that contains a HECKTON of colors--in this case our table is 512x512 pixels = 262,144 colors. Each color maps via its RGB values to a specific location on the table.
Tumblr media
There are a lot more than 262,144 colors (RGB supports 16.7 million), but the filter's shader handles the "in between" colors too. It looks up the color's position on the table and changes it to whatever color is actually there. If we used the table above, it wouldn't actually do anything, because when it looks up the position of each color, it finds... that color. What we need for a palette swap is something more like this:
Tumblr media
This is what I made by taking the original LUT image (which I found in a secret GameMaker folder), opening it up in Aseprite, selecting the colors I wanted to change, and then doing a color replace at about 30% tolerance:
Tumblr media
And then did that for all the colors!
You could use any image editor if you wanted to do a simple palette swap this way. (Also, technically, it doesn't have to be at 30%. It can be much lower, but I found it could be a little finicky for some colors.)
Once you're done, you add it as a sprite in GameMaker, then select that sprite in the LUT Colour Grading filter, and voila.
Part 2 - The Lighting
Okay, so that works! Now for the lighting! Remember above where I mentioned not doing the blueshift in a particular area?
Tumblr media
Well, the issue is... you can't punch holes in layers for the lighting (I tried). I also tried a similar method to what I had before: each light is an almost-invisible, translucent circle that alters the colors just enough to not trigger the palette swap. Unfortunately, with the color lookup table, this was finicky and unreliable.
The answer? Don't do any of that. Use surfaces instead! (It's always surfaces, somehow)
So the basic idea: copy the lighted (unfiltered) areas below the LUT Color Grading filter layer to a surface before the filter is applied, then paste that surface after the filter is applied.
I know that sounds wild but bear with me.
We'll need a few things for this.
2A - Light Objects
Mine are a fair bit more complicated since I have a state machine and all kinds of activation/deactivation code. The main thing we'll be using for this is pretty simple though: keeping track of a radius and having a position (with x, y position being built in, of course).
I called it obj_light. If you wanted, you could just have the Create event do "radius = 16;" (or whatever number) and just put one of them wherever you want light to show up.
For an extra flicker effect, I use random_range every five frames between radius - 0.5 and radius + 0.5, but I'll let y'all figure that out.
2B - Light Manager
Next, we'll create an object to kinda just set stuff up. We'll call it obj_light_manager. I made it visible and persistent. In its Create event, we'll create two surfaces, one for lighting and one for masking (I'll explain that in a bit). Initially, I just made them both the same size as my base resolution (320w, 180h).
global.lightingSurface = surface_create(320, 180); global.maskLightingSurface = surface_create(320, 180);
Tumblr media
Then we'll add a few cleanup events (always clean up your surfaces so you don't have memory leaks). I put this in both Room End and Game End events:
if (surface_exists(global.lightingSurface)) surface_free(global.lightingSurface);
if (surface_exists(global.maskLightingSurface)) surface_free(global.maskLightingSurface);
Now for the magic part: in the Room Start event, we'll hook into the layer's events with layer_script_begin and layer_script_end.
var _nightFilterLayerID = layer_get_id("Night_Filter"); layer_script_begin(_nightFilterLayerID, lights_surface_create); layer_script_end(_nightFilterLayerID, lights_surface_draw);
2C - Layer begin/end scripts
Alright let's make those scripts now, lights_surface_create and lights_surface_draw. I'll drop these in pastebins with some comments since they're a bit lengthy and tumblr's code formatting is nonexistant:
lights_surface_create
lights_surface_draw
The explanation for how they work is all in there. Basically, we'll copy the light areas (not filtered yet) to a surface before the night filter takes effect in lights_surface_create, and then in lights_surface_draw we'll paste them on top of the night filter, and voila, lights!
Tumblr media
Note: since I'm using subpixels, this method produced non-subpixel lights, which was pretty jarring. In order to make this work with subpixels, I made the lighting surface the base resolution multiplied by the zoom factor, 1280x720 with a 4x default zoom. When I draw the mask surface to the lighting surface, I have to use draw_surface_stretch. Finally, instead of using layer_script_end, I had to draw global.lightingSurface stretched in the Post-Draw event after the application_surface is drawn.
Let me know what you think! Thanks for reading!

Behind the Keyboard: Volume 1
Tumblr media
This is the first interview in a series with different Schitt’s Creek fanfic authors. The series will last as long as there is interest (from authors) and capacity (from me). If you are an author from the Schitt’s Creek fandom who would like to participate, send a DM to this account.
Each author was given ten questions. The first five questions are the same for every author, the last five will vary.
Remember, this year’s Reading Challenge begins July 15, so polish up those MFL lists.
Let’s meet our first author:
SweetSirius/ @wordthieve
How many fics have you written?
11 in total, 4 in the Schitt’s Creek fandom.
When did you publish your first fic on AO3?
November 2018
Describe your writing process from “Oh, I have an idea” to pushing publish on AO3.
Lessee. A lot of the time it starts with a scene in my head, and if it’s a good one I start building around it. If I really like it I start making dot points. In more organised fics, I map out the arc of the whole story, but it often starts with me fleshing out one scene in particular.
Tell me about your most recent fic? What do you love about it? Is there anything you think you could have done better?
Working Out! The reddit thread it came from was utterly adorable. Someone on the discord suggested a fic could be written, and I thought they were right, so I jumped in without thinking and put my hand up. I loved the idea of fitting it to Patrick and David, and the challenge of thinking hard about how someone might make that realisation without being afraid of it. I liked the idea of structuring it with a songlist full of meaningful lyrics, but YIKES, it took forever. I think my favourite part might be the date. I love a happy ending. *wink*
I always worry about fics after I’ve posted them. And even though this blew out to almost 9K, I wonder if I rushed it, if it feels too laboured.
What advice would you give to someone who’s thinking about publishing their fic for the first time?
I’d say the most important thing is that you like what you’ve written. Write it for you. Write what you like to read. Also there are some lovely, lovely people out there, and a lot of them read fics.
Most memorable comment you’ve had on one of your fics?
Oh man. I can’t possibly single one out. Every single comment on You Can Fall (my first SC fic) is lodged in my heart. The early ones that made me sigh with relief. The running comments that followed as I posted each chapter, popping up regularly to let me know what they liked, or just to say AHHHHHH - they really made it such a great connective experience, something we were all doing together. The comments from writers whose fics I loved. The re-readers. I love it when people single out a part they loved. A couple of people even told me it brought them comfort, or solace, or spoke to them - I take so much comfort from this fandom and from fanfics, so this all made me a little (a LOT) lip-wobbly.
What do you do when you get stuck?
I asked a published author this once, and he gave an answer I think about a lot. Think of it like a bunch of logs jammed in a river. There’s no easy way to get things moving again. You just have to tweak and prod and push and pull and move things around until things start to shift. Just keep going.
Myself, I always go back to the character: how would someone like them react realistically in a situation like this. Know your characters well. It’ll save you.
Who is another fic writer you admire and why?
The awful thing about this question is that I know I could list dozens of fics and still forget someone. If you really want a list or a bunch of recs I can provide that, but for now I’ll say that I admire writers who are good at the things I struggle with - those who don’t waste words but still manage to convey huge feelings. I love those whose passion for and knowledge of something is so tangible it leaks out into whatever world they’re building. I love the stories I remember as a sense - colours, music, sexytimes. I admire people who tackle complicated movie/media AUs and tweak them just right to fit the new characters. I love those who are brave - taking painful feelings, or out-there concepts, and making something really beautiful. Those who change my mind about what is my sort of thing.
If you could say one thing to your fellow fic writers, what would it be?
Thank you. That’s the main thing. You have all brought me so much comfort, and humour, and feeling and a feeling of safety that I really needed. Thank you so much.
What’s one question you would like to ask Dan Levy about writing?
ONE!?! Oh god. May I join your staff? Maybe: what do you do if/when you can’t think of an idea? Or: what does your writing space look like?

17, 18, and 29 for the ao3 asks, please! 🧡
17. Your favorite character to write this year?
You know, I think it might actually have been Joe? I've not written much Joe POV but it's always so fun to do, particularly in scenes with Len, cos Joe is always so done and ready to fight at all times lmao. I have a half-written one shot I really wanna finish where Joe finds out about coldwestallen and almost has a heart attack and it was SO fun to write, I'm cackling just thinking about it
18. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?
i feel like the obvious answer is len. i've seen a lot of people saying that and for good reason, he's so difficult to get right. particularly when it comes to dialogue. i loooove writing dialogue, it's my fave, but when i'm editing i find myself revisiting so much of his dialogue and deleting, tweaking, rewriting, SO much of it ends up on the proverbial cutting-room floor because when it comes to len, i take the old edict "he would not fucking say that" so seriously. it's always in my mind. but the problem with len is that there's so MUCH he would not fucking say. and it makes it very difficult when there are things i NEED him to say for the plot but it just doesn't ring as authentic.
there's this post that i saw once that talks about the ways people say things without saying them, specifically when it comes to expressing love. like they say "fasten your seatbelt" or "text me when you get home safe", but what they're actually saying is "i love you, i care about you", and that's the balance i'm basically always trying to strike with len. it's like, how can i have him say things without saying it. so i spend a LOT of time agonizing over that
that being said i think the character who's challenged me the most this year has actually been iris. because i've been reading and thinking a little more critically about like. fandom racism. and how characters of colour, but especially Black characters, are treated by fandoms and by the narrative, and so i've been trying to be a lot more intentional about how i write iris and particularly how i'm describing her, and not wanting to perpetuate harm in my portrayal and potentially create an unsafe space for Black folks in fandom, and also thinking about what candice patton herself has said about the fact that iris was never really written as Black, especially in the early seasons. like. this is a white character who they happened to cast a Black woman to play. so that's also something that's been going around in my head, like her race is important and would affect her whole perspective and worldview, and so i don't want to forget that, but then i don't want to overstep and write things that are outside my lane... there have been times where i've really got in my head about it, which is good, i think i'd rather be thinking too hard about it than being careless in my approach, but it's defo been at the forefront of my mind as she takes a bigger role in the fics i'm writing, especially as i have a few iris-centric longfic ideas that i'd LOVE to work on in future but that's defo something i'll have to be even more aware of if i do that, so yeah.
29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
You know, frustratingly I think my fave thing I've written this year is something I can't share because it's a huuuuge DNDB spoiler 😭 so I'll settle for sharing a steamy lil snippet from the westallen "don't worry, darling" AU i mentioned because it's a super romantic scene and i loooove it
it hasn't been edited so still kinda rough around the edges but im obsessed with like. its general essence!
Turning towards him, she stood on her toes to reach more easily and Barry tightened his arm around her waist, grabbed her thigh with the other and hoisted her up onto the chest of drawers in front of the window, knocking over a lamp which thunked to the floor and sent all the light in the room crazy, filling it with weird shadows and changing the angles of their faces. Barry pressed her against the window pane and Iris jumped, making a startled little sound at the coldness of the glass that caused her to arch into him even more, wrapping her legs around his waist for leverage. He leaned hungrily into her, bracing one palm against the window, and before long the glass had fogged around his palm and haloed around her like a pale aura, the moonlight outside smudging her edges while they kissed and kissed like they’d never stop.
Thank you!

hi!!! hope you're doing well!! i was wondering if you had any tips on how to use relight, i downloaded it for gshade and i even got the older version of gshade that people have been saying relight works on but i am so lost, i have no idea how to work it :( thank you for all of your tips and help with reshade and such, you're a godsend!!
Hi! I'm doing well thank you. I had my annual flu shot yesterday and my arm doesn't hurt so that's a win, and I'm having a takeaway tonight (I allow myself one a month) while the neighbourhood lets off fireworks (in the UK it's Bonfire Night tomorrow, so the whole weekend is full of fireworks) so things are pretty sweet. I hope you're having a great weekend too!
So, onto ReLight. Assuming you've got it installed correctly (the main shader and the fxh files that come with it), and that you've turned the shader on in the ReShade menu, you should see repeated sections in the settings for numbered lights. Each one will have a checkbox next to it. Turn on one of those checkboxes.
You should see a big circle pop up on the screen (make sure you have 'Visualize light sources' checked at the bottom of the settings). This is one of your new lights.
Under the section for that light there are 3 rows of settings.
The first row controls the position of the light. There are 3 boxes. The one on the left moves the light from left to right. The one in the middle moves the light up and down. And the one on the right moves the light toward the camera or away from the camera, backwards and forwards.
The second row controls the colour of the light. I never touch the 3 boxes there (they represent RGB - red, green, and blue colour channels). Instead I click on the little colour box on the right of them, which brings up a colour picker. I find it much easier to choose the colour I want from there.
The third row controls how bright the light is. By default I think this is set to 1.000. That's really, really bright. You'll probably want to bring that value down quite a lot. I don't think I've ever used a value above 0.4, and usually have it set somewhere between 0.03 and 0.2 depending on what I'm illuminating.
You can turn on 4 separate lights at a time to use together, or just 1 if you prefer. Each has its own section as above to control colour and position and brightness independently of one another.
You'll need to set up your screenshot before you start placing your lights, because they 'stick' to the screen coordinates. This means if you place a light in the bottom left corner but then move your camera, the light will still be in the bottom left corner, it won't stick to the object you placed it near.
So, set up your scene, get your camera where you want it, and then turn on your lights. Do one at a time, so they don't confuse each other. Turn down the brightness a bit, move it into position, get a colour you want, keep tweaking the position to get it just right. Pay attention to how light might naturally fall, what you want it to illuminate, and how you want the shadows to fall. Do any final tweaks to brightness. Then you can set up your next light if you want.
Once you've got all your lights set up as you like, go back down to the bottom of the settings and turn off the 'Visualize light sources' box, and the circles will go away. Then you can see how it looks and if you're happy with it. If you are, go ahead and take your screenshot.
It sounds like a lot of work, I suppose it is, but once you've done it a few times it becomes pretty quick to manoeuvre the lights into position.
I hope that's been helpful for you. If you need other help with it, let me know!

5 Things You Never Get Tired of Writing
thank you for tagging me @everythingbutcoldfire! (I loved loved your list all of them are reasons I adore your stories so much!! ;-;)
rules: list five things you never get tired of writing. it can be tropes, themes, characters, phrases, whatever brings you joy. then tag five people!
uhhh. remus lupin. aight glad we got that out of the way, next- (genuinely though. making characters come alive with words is so hard for me. but remus just made sense in a way not many characters ever do. his loneliness. his guilt and fears and cowardice. his withdrawing in, his lashing out. his bravery and kindness and patience and sympathy and I'll stop or else I might ramble forever)
...trees, I guess? I love writing scenes outdoor, with skies and trees and grass and all that. I've truly no intuition for indoor spaces, and lowkey hate having to decorate an imaginary house for a story (the same vibe as deciding outfits! can I say I truly have no clue ever??) but unfortunately, I do love the colours of the sky. so every once in a while you'd find me waxing lyrical about a sunset or two
sweet fluffy nonsense. I've been told I'm a softie. I keep coming back to truly directionless sappy snapshots from just before get-together or just after, of characters being truly madly deeply obsessed with each other (with the falling-apart just on the horizon!). I've also realised I keep writing wolfstar getting drunk and saying the soppiest shit to each other haha.
stupid extended metaphors, lol. my brain would really just go "what if incompleteness of mathematics is a metaphor for asexuality??" "wait the river is time right?" so much sentimentality so little logical integrity but I can't help it we're embracing the hippie part of me and going with it.
tentative (east) asian hcs. oh you know, every once in a while I tweak the colours of their eyes or hair or skin. give them a far-fetched back story. so far I've not got much more than shoving some chopsticks into their hands, but I'd like to go a lot deeper with these hcs!!
I've seen this going around a while, so sorry if you've already been tagged / done this! @shipsgaysfordays @sweetpeasandlilies @nymphaea-auri @mkaugust @fonkeloog

𝐓HOUGHT PROVOKING MEME | STILL OPEN .
❝ 𝐇ow does your muse handle their emotions? Do they bottle them up or pour them out as soon as they start to feel? && 𝐃oes your muse celebrate their birthday? If yes, how do they celebrate? If no, why not? ❞
𝐄motions ; the complexity of how Sammy feels and expresses himself can range . More so — he certainly feels , but expression is another case in it’s own . It ranges for prophet && non prophet , so ill start from there .
𝐏rophet ; Prophets emotions are a little more complex in comparison to normal sammy’s / pre corrupt . He’s a lot more verbal , not able to be expressive facially considering the mask ++ lack of defining features . The calm tone is what really sets it . Even if upset , he still manages to keep himself to a low rasp at best . Whilst internally — he may be burning with hatred , agony , etc . For better words .. i’d say he bottles his emotions up , but lets them pour out once pushed to a breaking point . As shown in the boss fight with him in chap. 5 , he lashes out on you presuming you’re the ink demon . The tone of his voice changes , and he’s yelling for once . This in itself is a prime example of Sammy showing his true colours , and how he really feels on some extents . The calm facade can be broken if you try hard enough .
𝐍on Prophet / Pre Corrupt ; While before his corruption sammy still continued to bottle emotions , some things had been a little off . For instance, rather than exerting his anger and distaste in public he had a tendency of taking them out in private . Countless time’s he’s thrown fits in his sanctuary , even getting to points of crying over the frustration of writing music for such an unfamiliar concept of cartoons . Who’s to say he knew what a cartoon was prior for working for the studio ? He knows what movies are . He assumed he’d be playing over movies , yet again . But alas ; new work he didn’t quite get . Resulting in stress . In TIOL it’s obvious he takes some of that frustration out once doused in ink , but that’s a reasonable reaction to come from him . Humane if anything . Theres also the frustration that comes from the noise . Like shutting down the band so he can focus on the stressful task of tweaking his own melodies , all that . I can go so much more in depth , but i wanna keep this short .
𝐄ither way, short sum up done ; i’d say both bottle up their emotions only to spill them out . One towards people ; the other preferring to keep it to themselves .
𝐁irthday ! ;
The fait for both verison’s of sammy is relatively sad . One worse than the other .
𝐏re-corrupt ; As he grew older , he didn’t really celebrate his birthday . When he was younger his mother had attempted too — but given his family didn’t have much money , getting most their income from his step father , the most she could do was verbally praise the kid . She’d bake him chocolate cake as well , something that could he made from scratch with relative ease . It wasn’t much , but he was more than grateful . As he grew older , he didn’t really clock his birthday . Members of the studio tended to bring it up to him , but he’d simply scorn . Or say thanks . Remembering his mother , or thinking of anything relative to the past whilst the future was right there seemed like an irrelevant concept .
𝐂orrupt ; He doesn’t remember his birthday . Susie does — but even when she brings it up to him , he seems dazed . Yet unlike pre corrupt , is grateful to have someone remind him of these important dates . He has a journal he writes memories he doesn’t want to forget down — one of those pages hold’s his birthday , written over and over again . As well as other important holidays . On the occasion he does remember , he doesn’t do much . Most effort he’ll put is set up a small show for the searchers , or practice more songs for the demon . Spending the day doing what he likes .

Hey, Ive been a fan of your works for quite a while now and been reading bts fan fiction even longer. I absolutely love it and that I've been wanting to write a ff of my own
Since I have absolutely no experience writing something, Ive been having trouble building a storyline and characterization and there's so many other things 😅
So do you have any tips for someone like me
BTW love love your works. Much love ❤
hello love! ah i'm so honoured you came to me for advice, although i must admit i'm not the best at those things either but i'll try!
firstly, it's alright to take your time w the storyline and characters. don't rush, ultimately you want to be happy with it.
as for characters, one of the many reasons why idols and celebrity figures are written as main characters is because it’s easier to work with a character that technically already ‘exists’. meaning to say: it’s easier to reference from real life than to come up with the details for a character i.e. hair colour, age, personality. so you can always reference a celebrity as a muse while you get the hang of writing and creating your ocs.
secondly, coming up with a plot can be difficult, so i highly recommend using prompts. just search for prompts on tumblr and choose one you think you can work with. you can start out with member x member, then member x oc once you’re ready. or whichever you prefer, it’s fine!
thirdly, it doesn’t have to be a long story. start with drabbles to get you going. the good thing about drabbles + prompts are that you don’t have to go into detail about each character. you sort of just insert the characters into the story!
e.g. if you look at my fic mutual, i got the idea off the prompt mutual drunk friend called both of us to pick them up from a party well this is awkward.
the plot is there. all i did was insert reader (oc) as the main, namjoon as other friend and tae as mutual friend. from there, as i got writing, i got the inspiration to include how oc and namjoon have always had a thing for each other. it’s an awkward because of that. and at the end they eventually get together thanks to mutual drunk friend tae. (i know i included other details like tae’s breakup and some stuff about school but honestly even without those, it would work!)
now, for longer stories, it really depends on how you work best. you know me, i only write as i go, so i hadn’t really planned out the entire storyline for rough edges for example until a few chapters ago. but if you’re more organised and structured, you can pen down your thoughts and organise the story into different chapters. i only did this for the last 10 chapters of re and honestly it made writing a little easier because i’ve penned down what i want/need to write about so i just need to actually write it lmao.
there are authors who write the entire series in one go and only after they’re done do they upload the chapters. and there are also authors like me, who write as the story goes along. do what’s best for you! there’s no right or wrong way to do it.
for longer stories, i feel it helps to first settle on the genre and characters. so is it a college!au, or supernatural!au? is it fluff or angst? then you think about who you want in your stories. from there, you can slowly build your own world (you can still use prompts here, as inspiration. then tweak it here and there to create your own story).
some other things to remember:
it’s okay if the story doesn’t go exactly as planned. changes in storyline happens to all of us!
it’s okay to not be able to write everything in one go. some of us (me) write several sentences and call it a day heh.
it you can’t think of anything to write, it’s alright, don’t be so hard on yourself. take a break and try again tomorrow.
writing styles can differ, don’t compare yourself to other writers on here :) you can, but you don’t have to.
umm...i might add on to this list when i come up with more things.
i think that’s about it! sorry if this is too wordy, i really hope that this helps you in some way. the biggest advice i can give is to not put pressure on yourself. do what’s comfortable for you! please feel free to ask if anything i’ve said above is unclear, i’d be happy to try and explain further hehe. all the best in your writing journey! <33 and thank u for your support, love u 💛

"What's your drawing process? Care to show a tutorial of how you colour, shade and render?"
I don't really have the energy to go into detail (visually at least) but I'm happy to show my general process and explain what I do for each step.
Tumblr media
1) I draw the rough page with "prelim" sketches, using a 10px ink tool in red. These are usually just stickfigures with ears, eyes and a few features that differentiate them, in the rough poses I need them to be in. The simplicity means I can move things around easily. I also add prelim text-boxes to get an idea of how much space I need for dialogue.
Tumblr media
2) I draw over the prelims with the actual sketch, using a 1px sketch tool in black. When drawing over sketches of any kind, I put the sketch at 9-11% opacity so it's just visible. It's harder to make mistakes that way and forces me to be more careful with my lines. Here I also add the other panel lines and keep the prelim text boxes.
Tumblr media
3) I line over the final sketch using the same sketch opacity rule, for the character illustrations. The lines start out rough initially as I use a mouse and thus can't draw with pen pressure, so once the lining is done I erase and add to the lines to simulate line weight and make it look cleaner.
Tumblr media
4) I begin colouring by first using the selection tool on the areas outside of the character lineart, then inverting it so it contains all of the character. This is easier than directly selecting each section of the character.
Tumblr media
5) The selected section is filled out with the character's base/main colour. I usually do this with accessories turned off, as they are on a different layer (ie Miltei's blade and Ash's necklace). Then I make a hair layer, eye/mouth/scars layer, and 1-2 marking layers, in that order of dominance. These are set as clipping layers to the base colour layer so I don't have to worry too much about going beyond the lineart. I just use the pencil tool at whatever size needed for colouring, and at 5 px for lineart.
Tumblr media
6) I finish the accessory layers and colour the inner lineart to simulate depth and connection between certain body parts. Eyes receive "eye lights" (white dots of varying sizes at a low opacity) to simulate eye reflectiveness.
Tumblr media
7) I then line the background using the same lineart rules/process established earlier. (Ignore that it's been coloured already idc)
Tumblr media
8) The base colours are added for the background. Some sections get rendering before others.
Tumblr media
9) Final colouring and extra details added. I usually add some shading or details to suggest depth and texture.

10) Final tweaks; ambience! Skyrays like the ones shown are done by drawing a large beam of yellow light and blurring it a ton. Then I do it again. On the second layer I add thin yellow lines using the spread tool. Then on luminous layers I add little dust particles like in the sunbeams you'd see in real life (though usually you can only see the dust up close).

11) I import the page into CSP and rewrite the dialogue using the prelim text boxes as a guide. I get them in the shape I want, then draw the speech bubbles using CSP's bubble tool. It's set to a sketchy outline to make the bubbles look a bit rough. These are coloured to match the character speaking, as are the text. The text and bubble layers are then reimported to SAI and the watermark is added. And we're done!

extra notes: 1) Eyes are generally drawn on a separate layer to the rest of the lineart, and pupil lines on yet another layer. This makes it easier to edit them and colour them without accidentally interfering with the other lineart.
2) There are rules I follow with how I do eyes and eye lights, but it's hard to explain. If I make an eye tutorial I'll make sure to go into plenty of detail about it.
3) I don't usually merge layers unless I know there's no reason to keep them separate. Those eye lineart layers always stay separate from other lineart.
4) The panel/page outlines are never on the lineart layer. When selecting the lineart so I can colour, I just draw small lines to connect the lineart that goes into the panel outlines. This is in case I need to edit the lineart position or something like that.
5) How I actually approach lineart changes on a case-to-case basis. Sometimes I'll do hair first, or body first, or ears first, sometimes I draw them all on different layers because of a complex pose, etc. I almost always draw eyes and accessories last though.
6) Preferred font is comic sans (thought I use both upper and lowercase as purely uppercase is irritating to me as a writer) for readability. I use a mix of other fonts for varying purposes.
