I rly should learn how to use perspective rulers in clip studio esp with the new fisheye one just being released bc I know they’re very useful and would probably help a ton. It’s just….perspective in general is so hard and confusing for me I rly do not get the concept of perspective lines/rulers at all 😭
Sorry to talk about it again but I'm just still flabbergasted by the whole plagiarism thing
Like... When watching hbomb's video the first time and seeing him point out the rewording of stuff to change it *just* enough to (hopefully) not get caught stealing... I flashed back to my college days of when I did exactly that. 😅
There was a limit on how many actual quotes I could use, so I got around that by literally looking at my sources and rewording it enough to get past the plagiarism checker (TurnItIn.com my belothed) without losing the meaning of the text that I honestly didn't fully understand because I was writing on topics I had no real knowledge of myself.
BUT BUT BUT
I still cited my fucking sources.
Yes, I was using other people's words so I could get through the hell that was college, but if you read my stuff, you'd know exactly where I got it from. I never claimed credit for all the ideas.
And... again... I was just doing it to survive. I wasn't making money. I didn't even end up actually graduating, so it didn't even help me academically.
Somerton on the other hand not only rarely *if ever* credited the people whose words he stole, he was doing it for money, while also putting down fellow queer creators. He *wanted* full credit for all the ideas in his videos. To cite his sources would be to pass the credit on to others. And he couldn't do that.
Edited to add: It's probably a bit extreme to say I "stole" anything for my papers. Like I said, I cited my sources. I just paraphrased what I could when needed, probably to a degree that was questionable at worst. I just have anxiety and feel like "OH NO I"M A TERRIBLE PLAGIARIST."
ok so I know you work with kids; even if theyre not as young as the ones I work with, and I have a situation I need some advice on. I'm 15 and I volunteer to work with kids that are troubled/their parents don't or can't have them home right away. (D.A.R.E) And there's this kid who has become my little buddy, he's nine years old and today I was at my little volunteer job and he started fake moaning so ofc I let him know not to do that; and he didn't stop so I repeated myself. That resulted in him asking why, so I said "Do you know what that means?" And he said yes. But then I was like bro no way so I said what dude thats crazy then he was like im just kidding but then he asked me what it meant and I was like, "ask your mom." Then he started making inappropriate jokes and I continued to let him know that it wasnt appropriate, Then he asked if I had a boyfriend so i was like nope and he was like oh I thought you would have one so I said thanks, but it really concerned me. I don't know what I should do, I talked to my mom and she said to just keep correcting him and he'll learn and not to tell the deputy I work with because that'll just get him in trouble and to only do that when it becomes too extreme. I agree with her but I want another opinion to see if this would be the correct thing to do.
thanks so much:D
hi, my friend! i apologize if this is brief and a bit jumbled -- i am still a little out of sorts, but you did say Urgent, so i wanted to respond!
that...is an unfortunate situation. and a tricky one. i do agree with you and your mom, though. i think you should definitely use your next interactions as an indication of tone w/ the kid you're working with, see if he mellows out or is still not listening/not respecting your boundaries. i think it might even be wise as a final warning to be like, hi, this is making me uncomfortable, this is your last warning before i speak -authority figure- and while not telling that deputy, perhaps mentioning the possibility of consulting that deputy will deter the kid.
most importantly though, i just want to caution you and say please don't let that drag out too long. the biggest issue i found with my new job is i did not set boundaries well enough or firmly enough and that's why i got hell handed to me in a handbasket, like if that child is saying something uncomfortable to you and you are like "hm, that was weird, i didn't like that, but maybe it'll be alright" that is not alright and you should not feel like that.
at the end of the day, those kids need support and while getting in trouble is very unpleasant, if that is how that kid is going to learn not to conduct himself in that manner, then he is better off for it.
but yes, i would go ahead with the corrections but if you notice it getting Worse ( and not even like massively worse, i think any amount of it escalating/you not being listened to is cause for action )...i would speak to the deputy but also maybe see if there is a gentler way in which your friend can go about speaking to the child?
either way, i will say sometimes you have to put up that hard wall, it sucks but it's always easier as a teacher to start stern and get sweet, if you stat sweet and try to get stern, that's muuuch harder. so tldr, give the kid grace for now, but if it gets worse, i would say something and i would say something sooner rather than later.
not to be a dick but if you've been through actual university level art school and you still think that it's unreasonable bullying to be asked to push yourself or experiment with different art styles or to have aspects of your artwork criticised by people you asked for an opinion. what was the point of art school for you exactly?
when people say shit like 'my art school tutors told me my art was bad bc it was too anime and cartoonish ☹️' that may be true but I'm not gonna lie what I suspect happen is they told you 'you should work on developing a solid foundation for any art style you choose by pushing yourself to try more representational art Anne getting comfortable with ways of seeing and understanding images' and what you heard is 'NOBODY IS ALLOWED TO DRAW CARTOONS EVER AND YOUR WORK IS WORTHLESS'
and furthermore I suspect that you were really annoying in crits and took any even slightly negative comment or suggestion as a personal attack even though literally the point of art school is to learn to take and grow from constructive advice from your peers.
shout out to the girl on my undergrad who burst into tears literally every crit for three years even though about the nastiest thing anyone said to her was 'it might look cleaner if you rubbed out any of your pencil lines after inking and also used a clean rubber while sketching.' and guess whose art didn't improve at all over three years and whose technique actively got sloppier while other people were moving forward in leaps and bounds? yeah.
there were people who started uni as the best in the class and ended as some of the worst bc they just weren't prepared to listen to criticism or change how they did anything. and there were people who started out very mediocre and went on to produce incredible professional work to a high standard bc they listened and were open to change. and that's got nothing to do with who was more painterly and who was more cartoony or whatever it's just. when you ask advice and get something you don't want to hear do you chew on it and try it out or do you dig your heels in and do more of the same?
and like I'm not saying there's anything wrong with sticking to your guns and doing art the way you want to do art and the way that brings you joy. I'm just saying if you don't want feedback, teaching or advice on how to improve I'm really not sure what the benefit of art school is that you couldn't get several thousand pounds cheaper by staying home and drawing there.
(and I'm also saying if you come out of art school like BOOHOO NOBODY LIKES MY STYLE AND MY ART IS WORTHLESS you might. need to pull yourself together and say either I'm committed to this style regardless of whether people like it and I'm going to keep building on this style and make it amazing, or I want to make art that's more like the work people like and I value, what could I change to get more where I want to go? but if you lie down and say waaaaaah it's so unfair that my art is bad and everyone else is just more talented than me then bullshit. by the time you've graduated art school talent is not the deciding factor in the quality of your work. it's a question of your willingness and capacity to put the work in, take criticism, understand what you want to achieve, and slog through trying and failing to get a certain effect until it improves. professional level art is not an innate talent it's a trained skill, and some people might start further along the path than others bc of their talent, eye or training, but the distance between someone who's talented but unpractised and someone who's less talented but puts a lot of thought and work in closes extremely rapidly. it can be disheartening but if you want to do this professionally rather than for yourself you gotta feel your frustration, have a good scream and cry about it, then get back in to figuring out what you need to build on. bc we're all guilty of sometimes going HOWEVER HARD I WORK I'LL NEVER BE AS GOOD AS MY PEERS but no offence if you just lie down and give up where does that get you? if you just start going 'actually you should all feel bad for not liking my work more' instead of making your work more appealing or finding the right audience for it, that's on you not on anyone else. what was the point of art school????)
Stuck at a red light and I could count 16 cranes all making new condos and apartments. Maybe a few of them are offices but they looked like apartments.
One of the many hills I’ll die on is my defense of the Girl Scouts if you hear the “girl” in Girl Scouts and immediately assume “well, clearly all they’re teaching them is how to bake cookies and manage a household and become a good wife and mother who stays home and cooks and cleans” then that shits on you yeah some troops aren’t going to be as good as others it all depends on the leadership and resources available but that doesn’t negate the fact that at it’s core it is there to teach young girls valuable skills and it can provide unique opportunities and a nice community for people who may need it
haven’t been on much bc my dog has been sick :( between seizures and an infected tooth we’ve been having a Time trying to get everything fixed (this started around the holidays so our vet has been very booked up…we have been like 3-4 times in the past 4-5 weeks OTL does not help it’s like an hour drive there, so that’s been exhausting) now his new seizure meds are making him sick (was hoping it was like, just an adjustment period thing but he’s been sick for a week and having concerning symptoms…) if I’m not on a ton or slow to replying to messages it’s bc I’m working as much overtime as my job will give me bc Vet Expensive and mentally drained obvi 😞
(Forgive the formatting of the video, I can’t figure out how to or even if I can fix it)
Anyway! I feel vindicated for my belief that Martin playing for Real Sociedad and living in San Sebastián is an important connective thread between the two of them.
Also the way Mikel says “Good answer, Martin,” about Spain being a good vacation destination fucking killed me. It was so funny and I can’t quite articulate why. This whole video is great though. Top comment on YouTube is just proof that everyone can see what the tumblr and AO3 people can:
right can i just. okay. lesbian is not a genre so im not looking to lump all these shows together. got that out of the way. im also not looking to pit queer people against each other so ok checking that off the list. i am however going to go ahead and throw the misogyny card out here because it’s fucking annoying how shows that center women, especially when theyre woc and/or queer, still just don’t take off even in progressive online spaces the way any shows with our darling young gay male couples will. i’m not saying that’s, like, the Cause of them being cancelled either because we’ve been shown numbers don’t matter. and many of the “”lesbian”” shows that have been cancelled were popular otherwise. just complaining xo!
my batman fixation is interesting bc i swing wildly between total obsession and not wanting to look at ANYTHING batman. however my love and adoration for cassandra cain is a constant
