WIBTA if I decided not to finish and deliver commissioned artwork?

I owe a couple of people art pieces I started literal years ago, before my life fell apart completely. They were taken on as emergency commissions; unfortunately the scope of the emergency was far greater than I could handle even with some extra funds.

I was homeless (not unhoused, luckily, but living at a friend's illegally without a permanent address on paper, with no access to stable internet when I had internet at all), severely anxious and depressed, struggling to find work and pay off debts, and only recently got kind of stable again thanks to support from people I currently live with, though I have a move-out deadline coming up...

To make matters worse, in all the chaos of the last few years, I lost all the art I had actually managed to get done, and in one case also lost access to the original commission refsheets. I could ask again, but after a few years of radio silence (because aforementioned lack of stable internet and severe mental illness) I don't even know how to approach them about it.

Even if I did figure out a way to do talk to them, my life situation still isn't stable enough that I could guarantee finished work in the near future.

I think about it every day, and have stress dreams and procrastinate on sleeping and eating because I "need to work on those drawings instead of relaxing", but that usually just results in me being unable to do anything because I feel like I have to make their art pieces into things worth waiting years for, so it's this big daunting monster in my head...

On top of that, I have new injuries that make drawing difficult, and every time I think I'll have a few days to catch up with tasks, some new crisis or other slew of bullshit happens. I really just don't have time, and when I have time I don't have energy bc all my energy is tied up in looking for work and being anxious about where to even start making a magnum opus for each client that would make the absurd wait worth their whiles...which, of course, just makes the wait longer.

I do still have the PayPal invoices, and could offer refunds once I have enough money saved to do that. It doesn't seem very satisfactory, but I don't know what else to do that's guaranteed to get them something. WIBTA if I just saved up and gave them their money back in lieu of the art they paid for?

Hallo! A question related to your Arc oc’s: what would the titles of the “books” be called? If you’ve even thought about them. :)

Oh man. OH MAN. I've been thinking about it ever since posting, bc I'm envisioning drawing book covers in the style of the canon books (but I don't think I could actually paint like that 😭)

Some of the character already had "titles" in their little refsheets that would make good book titles, some I still need to think about. Here are some ideas I've been thinking about:

Book 1: The animus maker (showing Ice with the glowing chains standing on the edge of the Sandwing territory at night, and maybe a silhouette of Datura on the backside of the book)

Book 2: The veiled princess (no concrete idea for the cover yet, maybe with the same setting as the first cover but flipped so that Ice is in the background. but maybe that's too boring)

Book 3: The true Seawing Queen (maybe one of the "worship" scenes with Pearl being surrounded by glowing eyes)

Book 4: No idea! Maybe something that hints at Lamprey's return & Agate knowing Pearl, like "Shadows of the past". Truly stumped on this one. The cover would maybe show Tetra in the throne room from Agate's point of view.

Book 5: again, kinda stumped. I like "Make a wish" or "making wishes" but it sounds kinda corny and doesn't really fit with WOF book naming conventions. Maybe "The wish maker"? The cover would show No-one as a Rainwing lounging on a branch or maybe spying on Datura and Ice when they first enter the Rainforest.

Book 6: The last/final spell. (The cover would maybe show Sidewinder from a slight bird's eye perspective as she's surrounded by Icewing soldiers, although I don't really like this idea as she's actually close to Datura and No-one in that scene. Still thinking about it)

MERI. OUTFIT. REFSHEET.

I legitimately thought this was going to kill me ! I am simply not that good at coming up with outfits and I am really struggling to wrap my head around the fashion aesthetics of Morrowind. Also I think a lot of the vibe is built via armor (big pauldrons, bonemold armor), and Meri uhhh doesn't wear any. Talking a bit about each outfit under the cut<3

tattoos: designs are in the top left corner; the first one is the constellation of the lovers birth sign and the second is a wolf skull. The constellation is on her chest, she chose it because that was her daughter's birth sign. The wolf skull is on her right hip.

underwear: I think these underwear are the most expensive item of clothing Meri buys on a regular basis. I imagine that most common kinds of undergarments you see in game are a sensory nightmare for her, so she shells out the extra septims to get some that are silky and fit her comfortably. Probably of altmer make.

casual/around town: this is the closest to what she wears in game. Not much to say about it, the shirt is a mix of two extravagant shirts.

travel 1: lightweight and practical travel clothes for the more comfortable climates of southern Vvardenfell. The gold necklace she is wearing here and in the first outfit is the soldier's coin you get at the Ghostgate. Meri travels mostly unarmored, but does wear one heavy armored gauntlet which she primarily uses for emergency blocking.

travel 2: THIS ONE WAS FUN. I love ponchos, wraps, and shawls so I knew I wanted her in a big comfy woven one. The one she wears here was a gift from Nibani Maesa. I was inspired by Tibetan hooded shawls specifically, especially in the pattern. Also the goggles are dwemer make! She found them in a ruin- they are vision enhancing which makes them doubly useful during ash storms.

formal: okay. this one is not lore accurate. I really struggled with it because 1) I hate most of the nice clothes in game and 2) I had a hard time coming up with a silhouette I thought suited Meri. I wanted it to be masc while still definitively being women's clothing, and I wanted to use purple to signify the quality and expense. I really tried with this one, there are elements of it I like, but I think it needs a couple more pass overs before I'll be happy with it. Consider this fit under construction. The pin in her hair is a moon and star.

Nerevarine Drip: Had to do at least one outfit with Wraithguard ofc, and I included the Teeth of the Urshilaku as well. This is by far the most dramatic silhouette which I think is fitting for an end game look. Those are pants under there btw. I know it looks like a skirt but it's just wide legged pants.

codenamed deepsea my cool fish waz a field medic in the alf (overwatch lore thing dont worry about it. like a militia basically) and met hog thru there when they were both like. normal guys. they fell a little bit in love but when they exploded half of australia radioactive wasteland style hog dissappeared and they got their heart broken </3 never got over it. but anyways because of the radiation they were totally dying and decided like. fuck it. dying anyways. gonna inject myself with a weird mutation goop and see what happens. and this is what happens

basically ^. like slowly over a looooong time but tldr ^ theyre a fish now

they eventually find hog again and are really really mad at him (both for abandoning them or whatevr and also bcz the goop made them lose it a little. just an unstable guy) but they go back and forth on it and are hooking up again. eventually they get Tired of Everyone and get a really big boat and go live out on the ocean to be alone or whatever. occassionaly they go back to junkertown to sell like metal from shipwrecks and other assorted Ocean Salvage Junk and usually harrass roadhog whenevr theyre in town. they start working together full time again when hog starts working for junk rat and calls in a favor (they need a discreet ride off the continent and the fish has the aforementioned large boat) and eventually they end up working with over.watch or whatever. let me know if ajy of this doesnt make sense im rlly tired

please tell me who lucas is i am so curious! is he a character from a dating sim?

fgnjbbfgnk if you have NOT heard me talk about lucas before, that's probably because he mostly resided on my other blog (@needleanddead) until a couple of events in horrorsim/murder-sim/etc fandom made me want to separate my writing and my art more cleanly.

cw: yandere, war crimes, military stuff, cannibalism, murder

in short: lucas is one of my yandere ocs. he is a late 40s former military man who, after witnessing some truly horrifying things, became a recluse who lives in the middle of the woods off-the-grid in a cosy little cabin and who cannibalises people who trespass/get in his way/discover him. his yandere tendencies usually begin when he comes across somebody helpless and sweet and in need of coddling in his woods and takes them home . . . because, well. he really wants to love them.

also take a couple of copy-pasted bits and pieces from his refsheet;

Lucas had an idyllic childhood; a wholesome farm boy with the kind of religious parents who preached love and tolerance above all else, a high school experience that he's able to look back on fondly, a childhood sweetheart who he envisaged one day having a little cottage with a white picket fence before he eventually inherited his family's farm, raising children, playing his guitar to them and dying happily surrounded by only those who he loved-- But at eighteen, he joined the military, and things were not quite so simple. Lucas does not talk very much about the well over a decade he spent in the military. He wears his dog tags as a reminder, and he's scarred and broken all over from various things that occurred; it's worth noting that, whatever he did, when he eventually left his career he received a large payout that the powers that be had no qualms about depositing into a bank account with a fake name. In fact, they practically encouraged Lucas to never go back to who he once was. Now, he lives in the middle of the woods in a cabin he built and repaired himself, as off-the-grid as it's possible to be when one still has some interest in their creature comforts. He developed a rather unusual taste when starving hungry on a mission, once, and it has not yet left him - animals do not hurt him, but Lucas is well aware of the horrors that mortal man can commit. He's committed far too many of them himself, after all. He hates people encroaching on his territory; he hates hunters and fools who have never learnt how to survive in the woods. What Lucas wants is someone who will let him take care of them; someone soft and sweet and domestic, who can make him feel like he's more man than monster. He's sweet, adoring, obsessive, delusional - and the meat that he feeds you has a strange aftertaste that it's best not to dwell too hard on. The world is a food chain, and Lucas is at the top of it.

it can only be my newest OC! i could name any favorite character from anything to draw, but it's so rare that i come up with a guy of my own, i have to choose him :D i now have a "truesona" in him so that's really awesome. it can do anything i would do, or want to do!!

5. favorite little detail in a drawing you did

it's a simple detail, but all the smooth curved lines while drawing my sona. also i learned this detail: sharks is all triangles. LOOK AT ALL THESE TRIANGLES!

by far, spengebab.

it's funny, when i was as a kid, i didn't make fanart for just any things i watched, i had to be super autistic for ONE THING to draw for it (this did happen in the form of, well, dinosaurs in general of course like most other kids, but then for wolves after i watched Balto, and later lions after i found a The Lion King fansite.). i guess it's just taken me 20 years to suddenly get sponge autism???!!! because this was not one of the things i was hyperfixated on at all back then!!!!!!

i've already spoken about how returning to a less stressful, toony style to draw in will be/has been good for me :D i am for sure in my "colorful characters who are so Shaped" era. in time, i'd like to refine my style into one i can apply to other fanarts for things i like, e.g. i wanna draw my fav doom demons more cartoonishly than i do! (if you wanna see someone who's Not Me do that, you need to check out tumblr user doomguy and arborix, they are both my favorite artists in this field!!! if you love doom as much as i do you may know them already. i'm not gonna @ them because this post is supposed to be about MY art, but i just can't help it theyre too good not to recommend!!!)

Oh yeah I was listening to this album again while sewing I think. Been really enjoying putting on Seether albums while I do art stuff. I actually only started listening to them properly this year soley bc i saw their name on a friend's fursona refsheet and was like 'oh i should listen to them more' and now i do :)

Currently watching: Two things mainly;

I'm currently binging and trying to get up to date on Viva La Dirt League's NPC D&D campaign, the vldl crew are friends of my work and the DM for this games (Rob Hartley) dm'd the game that Aestereoth first debuted in. But also this series is literally the only dnd series I can watch/stomach. It isnt just 4hr podcasts every week. They're nice snippy 30 min episodes with cutaways to them acting out the scenes they played. It's SO FUNNY and i love these guys a lot :3 can't wait to catch up so i can draw them finally haha

Secondly is my partner and I are watching thru all of Card Captor Sakura!! :D They watched the localised version as a kid so it's important to them but they hadn't seen the unedited japanese version ever so we get to watch it for the first time together. It's just so cute and wholesome and silly and jkahsdkjahd good comfy anime. Fucked up in places like all good anime should be but like overall... 10/10 snuggle anime.

Currently reading: Dungeon Meshi 🤭

Current obsession: nothing currently :'( kinda why i havent been drawing much. Been spending most of my time doing other stuff like hanging with friend's/partners and working on my dance stuff. Maybe thats the closest thing I have to an obsession rn XD I do pole dancing classes now as well as I'm practicing other dance styles at home so I can make fursuit dance vids one day :3 I do need to make a ref for my new (secondhand) fursuit's character. Maybe that'll be in the works soon :D For now; have fursuit pics to tide u over :3

i've been thinking a lot about my overall art stuff- skill, style, whatever. it's dawning on me that i can't wrap my head around a lot of stylistic ideas unless i treat them as physical objects, and even if i try to leverage that as a trick, it still imposes limitations.

i'm kind of proud of my "i'm an artist with more drafting than art experience" background but at the same time it's hard for me to deviate from realism in places where i want to in any controlled fashion. it's left me with an inconsistent style, as well as a tendency to draw what i do stylize- humanoid faces, mostly- rather inconsistently. it's really hard for me to keep faces straight between characters and i'm still just flat out bad at drawing certain angles, and maybe that's in part because faces, uniquely, are something i do not approach realistically, if that makes sense. i also just have a tendency, probably from muscle memory of fucking around in sketchbooks, to draw them as small as possible, and that makes fitting detail hard.

likewise shading and smears and afterimages are alien concepts, and whenever i try and introduce some i tend to just mentally try and jam it in without much further consideration. there's not a one-size-fits-all solution to shading, the good stuff involves a lot of tailoring of colors (wow it's really cool that i can't see those!!!!!) and if i want to go beyond the "just use a translucent black layer" technique that people apparently associate with tracing? then i frankly need to learn, if, well, if i can learn, and that's the scary part, i'm not so sure sometimes.

i'm tired, it's 4AM, but in short there's a lot about my art i'd like to change and while that's a common complaint among artists i feel like i can't fall back on the typical uplifting "just be yourself" thoughts because, just, like, there's not much style there at all. frankly at this point i just want to draw like anyone else does. it feels like what little success i have rests entirely on character design rather than drawing skill and every day i kinda sit back and wonder if i should just crank out refsheets and lore and comm people for the actual holistic art.

if i'm being honest one of the reasons i haven't at least commed some for fun at least yet is i'm, like, trying to prove a point to myself i guess. that and money. reeeeally hope work starts giving me more consistent hours considering this week seems just gone.

I think I’ve got a working version of the new DNA meme template that I’ve been working on, so I’d like to start testing it out. The concept is basically just “put your OCs in a blender & get a single OC out the other side”; it’s an updated on a Deviant Art meme I really like that needed some tweaks to best work for me.

If you’d like to recommend a character for batch one, drop up to six names below (see: OCs above). I’m indecisive, and always appreciate participate/interest. I’ll grab the four that were nominated the most and run them through the New DNA Mixer. I’d also like to use this as an excuse to work on my RefSheet so I’ll also commit to completing the RefSheet pages for the four characters in Batch 1. So like: pick ‘em based on fandoms you like, character traits you like, colors you like, combos you think could be funny, characters you want to learn more about--whatever is in your heart is fine. I doubt this will make it outside my circle, which is by design, but anyone who sees this post is allowed to participate even if you’re not in my circle.

This is a really big one, I'm sorry if its a lot of text.

I have a really weird trauma trigger, i feel uncomfortable explaining it since it might out me, and I only actively talk to my friends about it.

My main characters are very personal, and one specific permission on the designs that I have several notes on everywhere, the refsheets, closeups, in character permissions and global rules, keeps being ignored. And it tends to give me real bad anxiety that people don't read it.

Due past experiences I feel uncomfortable asking for edits and fixes now.

Idk, its just sad. I can't look at the art made for me because it now triggers my trauma related anxiety, and I don't have the courage to be honest anymore and ask for edits, I don't want people to feel like they wasted their time cuz now they have..

It happens esp with babyartists, but sometimes more experienced people too.

Sorry for being vague.

Clarify: a bunch of my ocs share a "specific design detail" which is pointed out on my refsheets, illustrated clearly, pointed out in global permissions and character permissions for good measure to make sure people dont ignore it. People end up drawing them looking wildly different, ignoring the several notes.

People, when you look at detailed designs and big refsheets the text is there for a reason.. pls read then. They're important. It matters to me. A lot.

Its not just frustrating that it just doesn't look like my oc anymore, its ends up looking rushed, muscle memory can't do everything... I don't need this stress over gift art. I want to genuingly be grateful that they spent time on my oc. I want to be honest. I'm too scared.

Everytime I asked politely I just got excuses "thats how I draw" or "thats my art style" but I could literally change a few lines and its still the same style but suddenly it actually looks like my character.. sigh. Is it that hard to swallow pride and not get mad at me for asking? People are scary. I dont want to edit your art. :( so I don't use it for my oc.

Also to add: not everyone draws the specific details wrong, it just happens very often despite my triple double notes on "don't do that." I don't revenge people who repeat the mistake.

Should I block them after the season ends..?

I need some advice. Should I swallow and just keep asking for edits and risk more stress, or just plainly thank them and just not interact further like I have been doing?

...I'm sorry. I've been doing artfight for a few years.. I over prepare as precaution.. it happens. Every year. It eats a large portion of the fun for me.

Art Programs

FireAlpaca - 2D Art Program, Animation. Where I make most of my digital art, and paint the frames for my animations :) It is free to use, and easy to learn and use! It can make basic animations as well, such as gifs. It requires download.

Krita - 2D Art Program. Professional, free digital paint software :) I have not used it before, though I have heard good things.

GIMP - 2D Art Program, Photo Manipulation. It's free to use, but I do not like it/recommend it highly. But! If FireAlpaca and Krita don't float your stoat, try Gimp! For 2D art, but also able to emulate Photoshop to a degree ^^

Inkscape - 2D Art Program. Free to use digital illustration software. Makes 2D art :)

Of course, who can forget classics like good old MS Paint, and the new and exciting 3D MS Paint, which can both be used to create some really neat things! Classic MS Paint is available here in browser form! If you need that. I just think it's neat!

Art AI

Petalica Paint - Coloring Software. An in browser, watercolor manga style coloring software, which can (almost) effortlessly color in any of your line art pieces! I've played around with it for my Thorn illustration style piece, and enjoyed it! It is free to use, and can take user input to make the colorations more precise.

ArtBreeder - 3D Realism Software. Using Artbreeder, you can create lifelike images of your paras, planets, or potentially even fursona, using the intricate AI they let you work with for free! A premium version exists, but most functions are fully usable without - though I recommend donating ^^ You can randomly generate, or prune and shape what you make until its perfect! Slow to use and get the hang of, but very worth it! Artbreeder is also pioneering an intriguing animation software to go alongside their product! Browser based.

3D Software

Blender - 3D Modeling, Animation. The best (in my opinion) free 3D modelling software.

MagicaVoxel - 3D Pixel Art. Free to use! Could be interesting :)

MikuMikuDance - 3D Rigging. Anime style rigging and animation software, free to use, and certified internet artefact! Has stood the test of time, and is still used and loved today. Can support ports of many kinds of assets, including, I believe, those from Blender, and of course those that are downloaded. DA has a bunch of old MMD communities you can raid for assets!

Animaze - Face Rigger. Use 3D models and a webcam to watch your paras talk! Models can be made in Blender, downloaded online, or even from CHARAT V, CHARAT GENESIS sister app!

Character Creators

CHARAT GENESIS - 2D Character Creator. Browser based anime style character creator, with multiple crops and poses, and infinitely customizable options. It is legitimately insane. Has a 3D function called CHARAT V which can apparently convert characters made in CHARAT GENESIS into 3D models compatible with Face Rig and Animaze!

V-Katsu - 3D Character Creator. Free on steam! Anime style, intensive character creator, by the same people who made Koikatsu, and Koikatsu Party, two amazingly detailed 3D hentai makers. While V-Katsu is a SFW VTuber maker, if you're looking for NSFW anime content, you could always spend roughly $70 on the full NSFW versions. V-Katsu requires a translation mod (free online as well) which you have to install, or the ability to read Kanji <3 Works with VR tech.

V-Roid Studios - 3D Character Creator. Free on steam! Anime style, fairly in depth character creator, that allows for some degree of digital 3D hand sculpting, particularly with their amazing hair engine, to get your paras looks perfect!

And, of course, Picrew has thousands of character creators of various styles and quality uploaded by the artists who made them! Also, honestly I think we as a society should embrace making dinky chibis in Gacha Life. IDK why everyone is mean to the gacha kids, like we weren't all cringe at some point,

World Design

HomeStyler - 3D and 2D Room Designer. Make a model of an interior for a home or building, using real 1:1 furniture of IRL brands! Apparently this is free to use, though there is a premium version, and it offers 3D and 2D models.

Map to World - 3D Planet Maker. Turn your fantasy world into a 3D model of the planet. Put maps directly on, or design the surface and textures of your world. Takes a lot of getting used to, but it is AMAZING. Free to use, and browser based!

PlanetMaker - 3D Planet Maker. Make a customized 3D planet! Free to use browser site! I have never used this, but I would love to mess around with it sometime! Allows you to add orbital rings, change textures, and more at the click of a mouse.

If on sale, I also recommend snagging a copy of the Sims, particularly 3 or 4, for character creation and world design. Maybe not the best gameplay without mods, but it's also a load of fun, and very easy to add custom content to! Minecraft also. But you just need Minecraft, in general. Beyond its ability to fairly faithfully recreate structures from your paracosms, it's just Good.

Game Creators

Maybe you wanna turn your paracosm into a cool game idk, just thought I'd put these here!

Construct 3 - 2D Game Creator. Beginner level game making :) Drag-and-drop if/then style programming.

GameSalad - Codeless 2D Game Creator. Drag and drop style/no coding, beginner friendly. Free version available!

Solpeo - 2D Game Creator. HTML5 based game engine for 2D and isometric game development. Some programming knowledge needed. Platforms supported: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer 9+. Free version available.

Stencyl - Codeless 2D Game Creator. Drag and drop style building/no coding skills needed. Has editable templates!

Scratch - 2D Game Creator. Very easy to use and totally free, though relatively basic!

Unity - 3D, 2D, and VR Game Creator. Make games with 3D software. Import your own assets (Blender compatible) or download free options, or buy the rights to models. Works for 3D and 2D games. Free version available, and now works with VR tech!

Squiffy - Text-based Game Creator. have used Squiffy and it can make some really, truly incredible things. Can take a while to pick up, and learn how to use to its full potential. Free to use! Has an online and offline library of player creations you can get inspiration from!

Quest - Text-based Game Creator. I've never used this, but it seems cool! Use it to make interactive text-based DND game adventures in browser.

Ren'Py - Visual Novel Creator. Visual novel engine, that is well acclaimed, and of course, free to use!

Companion AI

Replika - 3D Companion.

Kajiwoto - Chatbot Companion. Customizable, learning AI you can shape into a personality. Communicates via Discord like chat box.

Organization

Toyhou.se - Character Gallery. A customizable library where you can upload all of your paras and characters for the public to view! Free to use, but requires a premium member to invite you!

Refsheet - Character Gallery. I haven't used it before, but I've heard good things, and that it's a suitable alternative to toyhou.se if you can't get an invite!

Notebook.AI - Character Gallery. I haven't used it before, but I've heard good things, and that it's a suitable alternative to toyhou.se if you can't get an invite!

World Anvil - World Building Toolset. Like character galleries, but for worlds and their lore :)

Scabard - World Building Toolset. Aimed at DnD campaigners, but I reckon it'll be useful for many!

YARPS - World Building Toolset. More focused around story and lore than Scabard or World Anvil, and looks beautiful! Still in its prototype stage, however.

Pinterest - Photo Organizer. Look at, collect, and sort images into boards. Personalizes your feed based on that, and is free to use and join! However, unlike their myriad of wonderful recipes, DIY tutorials, and the likes - a lot of the images are uploaded by second parties and not credited, so be careful reuploading anything you find! Also great for finding outfits and art inspo for your paras!

Generators

Fantasy Name Generator - Name Generators. Does what it says on the tin! Generates fantasy names. Is a lovely website, run by a purportedly lovely woman.

Fantasy Map Generator - Map Generator. Randomly generates a fictional map, which you can view in 2D or 3D.

Donjon RPG Generator - Multiple Generators. Can make maps, weapons, items, etc.

Seventh Sanctum - Multiple Generators. One of my favorites from high school! Does all kinds of things - the standard items, spells, and names - but also prompts, backstories, characters, and even comedy generators!

ShindanMaker - Multiple Generators. User created and uploaded, any kind of generator you can imagine, of varying complexity. And when I say any generator? I mean ANY generator.

Audio

Audacity - Record and Edit Audio. What can't Audacity do? I love Audacity to death. At surface level, it records audio. I've used it to record voices for my paras, and get audio for animations and games I've worked on. I cannot recommend it enough. Comprehensive editing, and with some investigation, it can do so, so much more than just record simple dialogue.

FL Studios - Compose. Compose music with an unlimited free trial. Upgrades available for purchase!

Indie Game Music - Royalty Free Music Library. Free to use Indie Game Music. What it says on the box!

AudioJungle - Royalty Free Music and Audio Library. Thousands of free to use audio clips!

Online Piano - Someone could use this, for recording, or just messing around. I've seen plenty of paras who play piano, this could just be used for fun!

Online Guitar - Same reasons as above, but this site looks kinda sketchy. Use at your own risk or reward! Audio

For real, if you ever need music, sound effects, or really any MP3 clips that can be used without infringing on copyright laws, just search 'royalty free' (music/audio/insert thing here) same applies for photos! Make sure the source is reputable, however.

Tutorials

W3Schools - Coding. Learn the basics of coding, for free, online!

Miscellaneous

Debut Video Capture - Screen Recorder. Record game footage and let's plays for free! Professional and home versions. I see a few of our community members have paras who run YouTube channels, and I thought these might help! It could be a nice way to connect your parames. YouTube quality <3

Pixton - Comic Maker. Comic making website. I have no experience with this at all, but some may find it useful!

Picfont - Image Editor. Puts customizable text on an image. I used these for @paraesthetics paracosm header edits <3 It has a premium version (???) but the free version has all functions, but it crashes regularly (honestly seems timed :/) but once you get it down, it's a very quick process, and you won't have to worry about that at all.

Itch.io - Publishing. You can publish your self made games here :)

Korsakow - ??? Described as, "The Future of Storytelling" and is apparently a way to create interactive films. I *just* found out about this, but thought I should include it for someone who may know how to use and appreciate it! Free? Unknown, at the moment.

Tips and Tricks

Animation Done Easy

Our forefather's of internet animation used MS Paint, Windows Movie Maker, and Audacity. All of these, or their equivalents, are free on standard computers. I, personally, use FireAlpaca - which works just as well, if not better, than MS Paint for animation - but takes longer, and definitely lacks that retro feeling. I also use my trackpad to draw and animate everything, so its doable, but probably not totally comfortable, to animate like this for most people :)

behold, Skirmish!!! this is the latest refsheet i made of them in color

their backstory is, summarized, is that when they were a wee child, they were abandoned at an orphanage in slightly bustling town. due to the general population's distrust for tieflings, they did not get along well with anybody, often getting into fights so much to the point that the orphanage staff just decided to call them that. called them Skirmish.

some stuff happens and eventually skirmish leaves the orphanage and from like, ages 13-23 wanders around and cons their way to get the things they need. theyve done a BUNCH of crime, theyre a chaotic neutral, but they also never stuck around anywhere for very long and also theyve got massive trust issues but truly just yearns for a place and people they can belong with

actually, heres an ENTIRE 3.9k FANFIC I WROTE about one period of that bit of skirmish's life where they fell in love with somebody they werent supposed to fall in love with and thusly got very very hurt by it. pls heed the content warnings in the beginning of the doc tho omg

but yeah, with that backstory, skirmish is usually a very mischievous bastard, ready to lie and connive and sweet talk to get what is needed

aaaaaand off the top of my head, some fave shenanigans ive pulled with this bitch are

on the very first session on a ship on the way to the continent the campaign takes place in, they rolled so fucking high for a performance check and did a ROUSING performance of (medieval) Linkin Park’s “In The End” at the ship's dining hall, earning them praise and attention for a solid 3 minutes. immediately after that, they were nearly thrown overboard from the ship bc the guards realized they lied about their identity and scammed their way on board

this moment where i was trying to sell a normal ass sword to a rich person and thus said that there was a very rich history to this sword and i rolled a rlly fucking high perception but our DM rlly (wonderfully) makes us COMMIT TO THE BIT so i had to pull an entire story outta thin air and i made it into a comic, which is what this entire bulletpoint links to

a serious moment im still really proud of but we needed to get information from an evil cultist and he was not gonna respond to pain torture so skirmish convinced that cultist that they were part of the cult and needed information or else both they and that cultist would be killed

so basically i made Skirmish as an outlet for my love of lying and drama KJBJDFS IT'S RLLY FUN TO RP AND ACT THAT OUT
